Underworld Battalion [WvW] Leader (retired) – Gandara [EU]
All Is Vain https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/gf-left-me-coz-of-ladderboard/
Because of all those times you’re dropping repeatedly and getting super-protection from the symbol.
Anyway, the main problem is that the fall damage reduction only happens when the symbol procs, which kind of sucks, i.e. you only take 50% fall damage every 8 seconds.
If you’re going to shoehorn us into using a trait, you mightaswell make it a little bit more worthwhile. The other options are a revive trait and a mace trait, revive I can take when in a guild group, for solo roaming I mightaswell go fall damage, I can go mace when they give it some more mobility. I’m honestly not sure why they made it only every 8 seconds… fall damage never used to work that way, and I’m relatively sure no one with it constantly on was OP in any way – the only way to exploit it even if you were to get symbols every time would be to be caught by the stair damage bug, and that’s still going to end up with you dead in most circumstances.
Other than that, whilst I’m here I may as well ask whether the Healing Effectiveness on Force of Will effects yourself or not. Although, it’s kind of useless now that Pure of Voice has the shout cd reduction, meaning you have to take it if you’re using shouts pretty much, and can’t mix and match as you could when they were separate traits.
Furthermore, Absolute Resolution and Indomitable Courage both have 1,200 radius on them, what does that mean? The virtues themselves don’t get increased range according to the tooltip – does the Condi remove and stability happen at 1,200? Is the trait tooltip just wrong?
And to make it more useful, Signet of Courage should totally proc every 7 or 8 seconds, maybe when traited only, but atm it’s not much of a choice to pick between that and the others, also could think about making the active able to cast whilst moving.
Lastly, Save Yourselves and Hold The Line seem a lot worse now with the nerfs to might, vigour and boon duration in general, maybe reduce the cds a bit? 10 seconds of boons every 48 seconds whilst taking all allies conditions could possibly be better. And 4 seconds protection and 6 regen every 28 seconds is even more laughable imo.
Just random thoughts, feel free to say if any are awfully bad ideas, it just feels like Guard has taken a pretty good hit in patches, now the ways to go are medi or condi for roaming, I’m currently using pseudo-medi with shouts. All of this is WvW based btw, don’t really play the rest, I know SY is different in sPvP, and I’m relatively sure no one would use any of these skills in PvE if they were serious about it, but I think they would add some balance.
We had a particularly bad troll on our server. We’ve had dozens of people report him over the course of a year, perhaps more. (He seems to have left now, thankfully.) He was so bad, in fact, that he was a part of our new player training.
Dropping blueprints gets expensive. He had a bunch of cheaper tricks… constantly repair walls that are actively being attacked… pull siege from Garrison while upgrades are running to build all the cannons, mortars, oil, etc.
You can devise as many systems as you like, but IF YOU DO NOT ADD IT TO THE TERMS OF SERVICE AND POLICE THE WORST OFFENDERS, NOTHING WILL CHANGE.
Sorry for the caps, but I find them necessary.
There is no accurate reporting function for “attempting to ruin the game for the rest of us.” In fact, when I’d ask people in map to report him, our troll would threaten them saying their accounts would be banned for wrongful reporting if they did. Scare tactics.
Update the TOS. Create an option for Competitive Event Manipulation. Hand out bans for the worst offenders. The problem will solve itself once players realize you’re not afraid to ban people.
Heck, don’t even ban them from the game, just WvW. “Sorry, you have to sit out of the rest of this matchup now” will go a long way.
This basically. There are too many problems with pretty much every other suggestion here, and the main reason this kind of behaviour does occur is indeed because it is allowed to. No hinderance, consequence or even attention up until this point, has ever been attributed to Siege Trolling, Hacking or even the more minor of general trolling, commander tag trolls for example, or bug abuse (every keep in EB for instance) or in the least cases of bad sportsmanship like spam emoting and corpse jumping. Again these offenses range from detrimental to the server in every way possible down to just a show of immaturity and general kittenbaggery, and the scale of the consequences should have a similar disparity, were they existant; the only reason these things happen is because it is well known to their minds that ANet doesn’t care in the slightest nor will they take any action in opposition of them.
The problem, and all of these problems, only exists due to the fact that the people who commit them have nothing to fear from doing so. Banning someone either entirely or just from WvW after they’re accumulated >300 reports over a few days about the same thing, or after seeing a video of them blatantly siege trolling/hacking, is neither heavyhanded nor unreasonable. If you as ANet would get involved, the frequency of these transgressions would be infintely fewer.

Wellz; not that we’ve been there in a while, but roaming always is and was best in Silver imo, since we got pushed up by bandwagon free transfers roaming has been awful.
The amount of condi running around here is awful, and I’ve taken to hauling around Stealth traps just for that one Kodash thief who spends years contesting our Keep and is reportedly paid mucho gold to do so, not to mention the Deso gank and emote spam squads, because roaming 10 man is fun
Anyway silver is the way to go, the only thing keeping me as a roamer here is some form of loyalty to Gandara, that and I have 200 something Gold trophy finishers left saved especially for Deso. Although I won’t go in depth into calling them out as a wretched hive of scum and villainy, because with what I’ve written already I will be sporadically bold-texted into the ground about how Deso is the best thing since sliced bread by Deniara. In any case there is no server I, and many others, hate more. Their reputation is anything but ‘the best puglicious server’.
I’d argue that what you say about ‘playing PPT’ is incorrect, that or we have different definitions Furthermore Dius was probably trolling you, they don’t have super huge requirements although they are more hardcore than previously now, been around in some form or another since near release.
In any case I’d recommend Piken or Aurora, although idk as much about the latter since pre-seasons, I do hear that it’s a good place to be.
Thanks for the response Devon, been a while, dw though, I lose my keyboard all the time, generally when people decide they want me to command
But seriously good to see you again, and thanks for clearing that up for everyone, can’t find much fault myself in it, but I’m sure there are bigger, hardier and tougher critics than me out there; in fact, I’m almost positive of it.
Now if I could get my season reward chest soon that’d be great, though I remember it being said I shouldn’t submit a ticket, I heard that some who did received theirs later, so I’m wondering whether or not to actually do so. No wait random off-topic thoughts, that always happens when I try to write something here.
I solo roam every single day, and spend the majority of my time doing so. Few other players do it, it’s true, and you need mobility and knowledge of the landscape to move around and get out of situations where you’re obviously not going to win i.e. 12 zergers breaking off from the pack to chase you across the map.
I primarily play EB, and it’s correct that 1v3 is the most I feel competent in; I can take a fair few of them, but it, as all things, depends on who you end up fighting, if you come across 3 in the same guild roaming, it’s likely you’ll end up losing or having to run. Furthermore condi is over the top annoying in outnumbered fights, it’s always ticking away and you don’t have time to apply sufficient pressure to the guy dishing it out because you have 2 more stabbing you. I carry around some lemongrass just for those eventualities. There are indeed a metric tonne of condi builds floating around recently, notably pistol/dagger thieves, as always every other necro is condi and every Engi you come across probably is too, and they all use pistol shield, whatever the hell that fire circle is, explode their water turret and go flying away, etc.
Solo roaming is only really fun if you’re incredibly competent and experienced, you need to know your build, the landscape, enemy’s builds, know what to focus first, make use of mechanics like line of sight, and do it all vaguely well. Even though I like to think with a few thousand hours I’ve got most of it down, I still die quite a lot. Soloing towers (cough cough Anza cough) is fun, but hard to do when any enemy comes along. I once spent about 20 minutes trying to solo Hills, got the Lord to 30% and then the entirety of Germany came streaming into the lord’s room, and I somehow lost.
Solo roaming also happens a lot more on thieves than anything else, as everyone knows. Out of a misguided sense of honour, I sometimes let downed enemies get back up after I beat them; a year ago they used to be nice about it, now they generally get straight back up and start firing, at which point I roll my eyes and kill them. Also the best part is emote spammers; I killed this Warrior, this matchup, on AR inside SM in a 1v2, so he comes back, about 5 more show up so I jump out, and he starts spamming laugh, then follows me round SM to Anza to continue spamming laugh, hangs around portals and twirls away back into them in order to spam laugh, runs Snow Leopard form in order to run away, and every time he gets low runs until he resets combat then spams laugh. In any case I’ve killed him a fair few times, several times more than the two times he’s helped a group kill me, haven’t seen him for a couple days though.
I still like playing with groups, but there’s only one real guy where I feel safe with him at my back, estimate, and proven that we can take about 6 together. The other day we with 1 other guy took on 8 FR, were there for a while with hard ressing and them coming back from spawn, but those fights can be really fun and intense.
As is traditional I have slipped from my point and fallen into pointless rambling, but yeah solo roamers are few and far between, but not extinct.
(edited by Immolator.5640)
it’s not even an oldie, 6 days :S
I don’t even have a kitten anything of badges, I just want to be able to level in WvW. My latest 80 got from 60-75 with crafting, then 4 levels in EotM/Orr and last one with my one Tome of Knowledge I’d saved.
Couldn’t be bothered to read and see if someone said it already but it’s painfully obvious that ANet didn’t have the vendor ready even by today, and hence used their other screw-up, half of the players not getting their chests (including me) to cover it up.
Places useless NPC titled Vendor in LA, says ’this vendor totally works fine but we will not let you use it until everyone gets their rewards’ - dodges bullet + smiles evilly.
*absentmindedly toys with tin-foil hat*
Gz SFR.
One question; who is the SFR commander at the start of this video? https://youtube.com/watch?v=A4nq8IAEMjM
Impressive breath control has that one. The main Deso commander that stood out was Ins, but I guessed that already due to the amount of praise showered over him by his huge guild and groupies. That said I’m relatively biased against Deso due to, in part, the amount of outnumbered emote spamming and forum warrioring they had the times we were against them. The latter does seem in no short supply in the higher tiers, but watching the video you guys appear relatively likeable, provided I could get past the smell
(edited by Immolator.5640)
Playing against real thinking opponents is obviously much easier than spamming zerker all over the place in PvE and is definitely not what any ‘real gamer’ would do.
Sarcasm aside, any WvW guild not bringing a significant amount of Power Necroes is kidding themselves. Love from Silver League EU. If that has more bearing than T1 NA.
That would be my suggestion also; once the Wardrobe came out I searched everything I liked and came up with my second set look.
I must say Icewielder, perhaps I’m just tired and easily amused, I’ve certainly been accused of the latter, but I’m thoroughly enjoying these Warrior comments
there are plenty that are part gazelle that just run for the hills after you look sternly at them.
I generally just go find something specced for fighting rather than running.
warriors that neither spontaneously explode in one burst or hit the afterburners in the other direction are very rare indeed.
Such true. There are a few that don’t do this, but the vast majority… it’s just like the army of p/d thieves awkwardly falling over in smoke fields towards your general directions.
As for Warriors ballet-twirling their way out of trebuchet range, there’s one man, one Guardian who can catch them every time.
His name? Logan Thackeray. Outrunning all of the competition since 2012 – 3x Retreat on his bar.
I hear you that both real life commitments and your connection can hurt play time and opportunity.
My spec is pretty much cleric’s/magi split, about 80:20, I have a couple damaging trinkets that I take instead from time to time, and if I feel I want bigger numbers I stack bloodlust rather than Life. Again crit chance comes a lot from Accuracy, and Guard Stacks are always fun and necessary at least in most 1v3s, so I use them to reach 20k HP and kill stuff. For Zerging I just grab my staff and sometimes change II Defender’s Flame, depending on party members, to IV Strength In Numbers. For Guild play I grab Purging Flames for HTL and swap my elite to Tome of Courage, and grab the appropriate consec trait. I also use Water runes for the boon duration. I would put it up on an editor but I don’t currently have access to my PC and inputting it on my phone would be too much effort.
The build you’ve put up isn’t like the best, but then what is? It looks durable enough and fairly standard in terms of its survivability, however is actually think in general you should swap those Soldier’s trinkets to Valkyrie for the damage – another idea occurred to me in that, having done so, you could swap your Trait setup to 0 0 2 6 6, and again grab sigil of accuracy for your weapons – you lose 100 Toughness from Valor, you lose 136 Toughness from the trinkets, which puts you at roughly 2.8k Armour, which is great and all you need (I and many others run around with it). You lose 6% crit chance from Retributive Armour. At its expense you gain 7% Crit chance (1% more than previously) from Sigil of Accuracy, 126 Ferocity from Trinkets which equates to 8% Crit Damage, and your Power -10. You gain 10% Boon Duration and 10% quicker Virtue Recharge, as well as +1% damage per Boon and an extra trait of your choosing – I would go with Indomitable Courage, double stability is strong and your passive aegis will be faster, for the small help that does. In any case it’s a pretty good trade off considering all that you lose is either expendable or outdone once changed.
The sidenote is that according to the editor, Asc Valkyrie does not exist. This however might be untrue, as the editor also says that Asc Magi does exist, which I know is false xD either way I don’t have the means to check, however if it’s true it’s not really a huge deficiency, -10 power, -5 Vit and -5 Ferocity. For Ferocity the 5 makes no matter as it won’t equate to another 1%, for the other two it’s negligible, but in my rough calculations above I have allowed for them. Hopefully the editor is wrong though. To be honest I run around in exotic armour with an exotic Staff and an exotic backpiece, so again it’s not that bad, it would also save some time in getting if it were exotic, as you can buy it off the TP instead of waiting for laurels which I assume you’re in short supply of, seeing as I often am xD

Aegis doesn’t really need a visual cue tbh, just as many other boons don’t have them properly. Another solution would be to make invisible for your character alone. This combined with the awful shield skills has indeed put me off shield since I started playing Guard. Tbf a decent player will look at his opponents boons, if it’s a guardian you go in expecting Aegis, if you don’t see that that thief has 25 stacks of might you deserve the burst he drops on you. If you’re in a zerg fight it makes no matter as it wouldn’t help you anyway, nor would the visual cue.
Mr. Phask. Nice to see you here, I’ve seen you roaming around in a vague towards-the-enemy direction every once in a while in WvW.
I’ve been playing with full healing power gear since WvW’s offset, and I do completely fine with it, lead guild raids every other day and spend it berating allies on dying, used to do a lot of infantry commanding and was fine in that too. From what I can tell that’s a decent stat combination, and you’ll probably be fine.
If it were me for maximising I’d change the either the Soldier or Zerk trinkets to Valkyrie, or both pairs to Valkyrie and Cleric’s, then grab a sigil of Accuracy on both weapons. For me 3k armour is unnecessary and the toughness can be burnt elsewhere, similarly Accuracy on the weapons would free up points placed in precision to be spent elsewhere. The Cleric’s would only really be because I can’t get enough healing power. On my actual build I run around winning 1v3s still, so I’m happy with the stats there, I have another set I use once in a while for more damage but I don’t enjoy the loss in survivability.
Basically I come very close to if not more healwayish than Healway and handle myself easily in all zerg situations. I hit a little wet-fish like, but I’m happy with 2k crits on Auto.
In terms of Mace/Shield I’d probably say give it up for large scale fights; it may be okay in small scale but Staff and GS are both life savers and less selfish for the group, furthermore they provide movement, CC, DPS, large buffs, healing and some persistant attrition damage when taken together. Skill #5 on shield is likely to get you killed by the rooting, and as a melee player and the centre of movement for your group, that’s something you don’t want to happen. Moreover, both Staff and GS benefit from your Two Handed Mastery trait, if you needed another strong argument for it
If you can deal without the damage I’d use a sigil of life instead, Healing Power is akin to godliness, as the expression goes, and I think you’d be fine as long as you aren’t one of those thief players who runs around gaining immense pleasure from hunting down upscales and critting large numbers on them. In any case if you’d want to, with smallscale I’d be happy to roam with you at some point once I’m back in a week or two, and if you have any questions or want to discuss possibility in general, that is unless I’m horribly mistaken and you’re not actually on Gandara.
Hope this helps, it feels a bit incoherent and rambling, as all my posts do by the end.
(edited by Immolator.5640)
Warriors and Thieves are the undoubted kings of mobility in the game. You know in solo play or even in small group play, the first thing the Warrior’s gonna be doing is twirling away into the distance as soon as you get him low, the first thing the Thief’s gonna be doing is dropping his shadow refuge as soon as you get him low. Or falling over every couple of seconds within his smoke field in order to become invisible, or swapping to Shortbow and shadowstepping away, or popping that skill whatever it is that randomly shadowsteps them back to spawn.
Alright that was pretty much hyperbole, however yes those are mostly givens. I get some decent movement with my Sword Tele, my GS leap and my 1/3 or so uptime on swiftness, but nothing like what they get. I myself wouldn’t complain much, as I count it as nature that those things will happen, whether they should, idk, but there doesn’t seem to be much else going for Warrior atm with Solo and smallscale, their sustain isn’t all that impressive, unless you hit like a wet fish, their damage can hurt but if you know what you’re doing it’s easy to avoid and easy to counter.
As for other classes mobility there are 3 main types, Leaps, Teleports and Rushes, the last being the least occurring. Leaps are good for getting over gaps, Ogrewatch hill → Ogres Merc camp being a prime example. Teleports are good for covering elevation, Anza ditch to the rise above if you target the wall. Rushes just push you forwards. Not much huge about them, except the range on Warrior GS #5 is notably large when you use swiftness. Teles are generally 600 range, bigger ones have longer cooldowns but can span to 1,200 range. Leaps are generally 900, Ranger GS #3 can go further but it’s a bit gimmicky, and not really that helpful considering the run-up impairs you from some leaps and gives more time in which to be CC’d. Targeted Teles are harder to use than ground-target ones, however once you get the hang of it they can be quite useful. Each increases distance with swiftness, decreases distance apart from Tele with slows, and decreases when in combat as opposed to out. One example is you can make Anza Hill → Keep ‘wall’ naturally if you are out of combat and have swiftness on your leap.
I don’t really know why I started saying all of that, perhaps to spread knowledge to everyone; in any case every character has a couple of these, except Necro and Mesmer, who have no leaps, Mesmer has 1 tele, neither have rushes. Necro is probably the most immobile class, although you can counter it with Locust Signet, often you’d rather take something else. In any case Warrior and Thief have the most movement skills on the shortest cooldowns, so you will often see them able to escape anything that doesn’t go their way. And don’t forget that Adrenal on Hammer, 900 range ground targeted leap pretty much. Melee classes need gap closers, as much as ‘ranged’ classes need the same for evasion.
It would really be awesome for players to become weaker the greater in number they are; I’d totally run over zergs solo, rejoicing in their 1 dmg bleed ticks, backstabs critting for 20 and me slicing through swathes of them with my Greatsword swings.
Or did you mean something else? xD
Everyone talking about realism can eat rainbow unicorns from a Shortbow. Or be cut into pieces by a vaguely Greatsword shaped, colour leaking piece of space. Or possibly plant some flowers on your foes from 1500 range. Let’s not get into fire swords, lightning from hands, making clones of yourself, thieves kind of falling over inside smoke fields and gaining perma-invisibility.
You move 100% faster out of combat full time with out any buffs. That is a mount out of combat.
ahem This man speaks the truth. It’s part of the reason players start out of combat for duels and GvGs. Or to be fair fighting in general – you maintain the advantage the longer you are out of combat; closing that distance that much faster gives you an edge.
The day mounts get introduced to the game is the day I stop playing, which would be sad considering I’ve been an avid player since Betas.
Combat is very dependant on positioning, and your movement is part of your survivability; in combat you will be hit, with swiftness you can outrun the shots with your strafing. Moving to the edge of that AoE a split second quicker is the difference between a tick of damage and lack of such. Some Guardians buy traveler runes to make up for this, likewise with some Necroes and Mesmers, and that is their choice, and part of their build; I feel I do okay without it, and hence can use my own runes and make do with about 1/3 swiftness uptime, which is for me fine. It’s all about decisions, sacrifices of one thing for the other. The fact that thief and warrior have such good movement makes them highly annoying to fight if they know what they’re doing and can run away very easily (because they generally have no chance to beat me). For your levelling characters, it’s a sacrifice you have to make too; in all fairness the waypoints cost nothing sub-80 and it’s not like you’re going to kill anything if you have that extra utility skill, I mean, you’re an upscale, good for only rallybotting and… well… rallybotting. Alright I suppose you can carry supply around too, but even then you’re useless and everyone else can do everything better than you.
If it really hurts you that much then go buy Swift Moa Feathers off the trading post for ~30s, they’re like 20% or 15% movement speed. Upscales are useless and boring, being able to run around dying faster won’t help anyone except the enemy. And if you’re doing PvE then, it’s a faceroll anyways so it really makes no matter.
Still, ewww mounts, I would hate to see it implemented here, however I feel relatively safe that ANet will never do so; it’s not their style, not for this game and have you seen anything remotely resembling a horse anywhere? In any case my, and many other’s, view on everyone pining for mounts is ‘just no.’
(edited by Immolator.5640)
The RGB split ala eotm would most likely be looked at as the best possibility for the GvG scene… only 33% chance to be unable to fight your chosen opponent guild.
My personal recommendation in this matter is keep it how it is, as far as servers go, but allow the chest to be looted by all of my characters. This would preserve a sense of ‘server-identity’ or whatever the word would be, and at the same time breathe life back into those dreary halls.
Back at launch there was not only awesome pvp combat but also the whole portal/camping meta. You portal all 8 of my toons, I portal of yours in return, all the while trying to keep your portaller safe from the enemies. Or, best of all, kill the enemy mesmer and ‘retake control’ of the EBJP. This made people actually want to spend time there beyond a single quick personal chest loot for a pittance of badges and maybe a ballista or some green item. Ill never forget some of the devious and genius camping battles with TC and FA back in the day. You were able to build siege (removed because ppl would ‘steal’ supply from the actual wvw match in progress, understandable i GUESS, but holy kitten the battles!) Mesmers would call in eb map chat for players to brings supply if they wanted ports for building siege at the top of the spiral well or battle pit. (hence EBJP becomes its own map, and this was awesome to those of us well versed in camping/jumping/portalling)
Bring back multiple character chest looting, and bring back the real beauty of the place. I honestly dont even care if the loot stays junk, so long as people will spend more time there and the portalling games of old can resume!
I had great fun there back in the day also, spent a lot of time inside fighting my way through the puzzle and killing groups coming up the well, duelling enemies and generally having some awesome small scale play. There was indeed an element of tactics when there was siege up there, but that said there was still one before it became a separate map. I’d love to see it repopulated – not EotM style mind, just enough for some nice small scale and without those Waypoints at the beginning, it should kick you back to LA or something and have a portal back, just like before it was made separate. Else you’d have Zerg battles there and insta respawning winning fights; I would know xD we had a 30 man queue there and commanders zerging around on the first day of this season rubbish, whilst everyone waited for the 300 man EB queue (cough cough thanks for destroying our server with that free transfer crap ANet).
I would listen to Detharos tbh, that’s the kind of depth knowledge of his class and build that only comes with experience and skilled play. I don’t actually know ranger well apart from as an opponent, even then as many say, skilled rangers are few and far between, I use my alt just for big ranged numbers when I get bored.
CRrabbit doesn’t really know what he’s talking about, as there’s a lot more to thieves in roaming – just that it’s rather easy to play and if you play it well no one will ever kill you, because yknow mechanics. Same can be said of Warrior with its mobility, and those are common also. I play guard roamer, which is rather rare, in terms of solo at least. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen another, most run med builds, if looking at the forums is any indication. I know my build as well as it seems Detharos knows his, so I would consider what he says carefully; there are included a lot of the small tricks that you learn once you’ve played with your build for a while.
I also came to drop this here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Ranger-Pets-Overpowered
Air battles – Drop zerg on top of lord or inside objectives. No.
Naval battle – What water? Also, No.
Ground vehicles – We have golems.
Mounts – No x9999999999.
Real war – If I want realism, I’ll load up a Battlefield game.
Dragons as allies – Glint and her baby are dead, the rest of the dragons are meant to be enemies that we fight. They don’t even exist in PvE after 2 years, Anet’s favourite game mode. Hoping for something like this in WvW would realistically take ANet 25 years to do. Also, without any of those reasons, No.You said it’ll improve WvW. Frankly I don’t see it that way, not even close to an improvement.
On the other hand, what the majority of people are still waiting for ANet to do is:
- Improve Commander Tag functionality. Yes.
- Improve Guild functionality (Guild tag/Guild party, + others) Yes.
- Stop rewarding server stacking. Yes.
- Adjust or remove PPT system, to something that isn’t a meaningless joke. Yes.
- New maps (And be nothing like that EOTM joke) Yes.And the big one:
- Constantly balance the game, tweak skills and shift up the meta for both WvW and sPvP on a regular 2-4 week basis, allow for creativity, and squash stagnant game play.Until ANet starts working on these, and rolls them out competently, there is no room for anything else.
Agreed on pretty much every point, I would add some stuff in there like lag improvements, because you shouldn’t lose a fight on the other side of the map because your server is fighting in SM, and then also some general common sense things like announcing things when they should, and making sure there is another free transfer international server in silver, so we don’t get flooded completely with immigrants and our server turned into something foreign with impossible queues. Furthermore Underworld is now dead because pretty much all of them are here, cos panic move.
In any case mounts disgust me for this game and I hope I will never see them, siege fine, but no horseback stuff, or anything of the sort. Pretty sure ANet will never incorporate it also , so I’m glad of that. Naval warfare kinda no, it would be impossibru to make if you actually think about it, and even then it likely wouldn’t be fun. Aerial battles just no.
Don’t try to make this game into something it isn’t; if all of the features you suggest were implemented, I would probably stop playing it, and I’ve been playing avidly since Beta. If you want to play Planetside 2, then go and play Planetside 2.
Disclaimer: no QQ, just simple facts:
What we’re witnessing now in EU Silver league:
- just as season draws near it’s end the server decides that simply winning the league is not enough, starts pushing an otherwise inferior 4th place AM into its match-ups and pulling it by its balls straight into 2 place by capping the map and ceding the control points to it just pre-reset (happened last week to Farshiver, happening now to Piken, gonna happen to Farshiver next week again);
- result: Abaddon – to its own surprise – takes second place, Piken and FarSH outplayed by the system.I am not blaming Gandara for this, as any other server – with that transfer program pre-season + the way the point system works – could be in this position.
I am blaming the WvW management for failure to forecast such ludicrous scenarios and practically letting a single server decide who gets what in a championship.
Yeah right man. It’s heartening to see that the tin-foil hats are being shared between servers now – speaking of which I didn’t actually get given one like I requested last time – but for serious the only deciding that ever happens comes after wild conjecture and conspiracy theories like this, when the link is being posted on our Server website’s shoutbox so that we can all have a good laugh about it and generally facepalm/facedesk in the face of how ridiculous it is. After which 1 of our commanders might decide just due to the idiocy of people suggesting we’re double teaming them, that he’ll command the next day and focus them for their transgressions. That is literally the extent of anything like that occurring. Right now the amount of laughter coming from the shoutbox is quite high, and some of it is even in caps.
Seriously, Piken and FSP are good servers, and we’ve had great fights and knew FSP well prior to the seasons and our immigrant overload, and although we haven’t seen Piken in a while beforehand, we remember them as honourable fighters who we had good relations with and were always fun to matchup against. Neither of you should be running around pointing fingers and throwing baseless accusations; you’re better than that.
Shhh don’t tell anyone, but I get more than that on a dodge roll, more than that on a staff #2 pop, and more than that after 4 seconds of regen…
Gandara got super stacked.
fixed
Lol you can’t see that that’s what he meant in the first place? I’m torn between saying don’t let your anger blind you and let the hate flow through you, the latter of which would probs be more poignant time-wise. Basically don’t get bitter or derisive towards my server because we got screwed over by ANet. Literally nothing we could have done, nor did anything we tried have any effect. Before transfers we were looking at little to non-existant queues and not really a well-known contender for first, possibly with the additions of DAWN, TUP etc. who would have come regardless. Getting solidly beaten into the ground by GH every time we faced them. In any case it’s ruined my play and annoyed many of us to no end. From that amount of queues we went to >300 on EB at the start of the seasons, >200 the week before. Atm we’re still saddled with 50 for EB in the afternoon and a bit more during prime, 30 around for Borders at prime.
My basic point is, get mad at ANet, not me, nor any of my server mates. It could just as easily have happened to you. Even as it is after the season we’re gonna have to spend a couple weeks in amongst the gold servers at least, until we’re beaten down back to where we want to and should be, when all the fair-weathers leave.
Idk if it’s been mentioned before, but I guess it hasn’t cause search results come up with nothing; Guild Defender Shoulderplates in Heavy armour are no longer obtainable in game to my knowledge, which is a real shame because they really do look awesome, and have a heavier and imo better feel than Banded. You used to be able to get them in sPvP from chests or something, but they were done away with, so no chance now. Please please implement some way of getting them, they look awesome xD
Desolation? Are you trying to troll the poor man?
EDIT:
Gandara got super good.
Now that’s trolling, we just got flooded by thousands of immigrants when ANet decided to knight us king of silver league, for the worse imo. To top it all off they nerfed boon duration runes in the lovely new Feature Pack thing they’ve been working on instead of the other numerous issues WvW has, so a double kick in the nuts for me.

I’m sorry to have to admit it, but all of you FSP guys are right, as a server we have mass ordered the Collin’s German Phrasebook, and upon its arrival wasted no time in contacting the King of Abbadon’s Mouth, jumping on their TS and coordinating attacks together. I have one question for you though, may I have one of those tin foil hats you guys seem to have an abundance of? Surely you can nae need so many…
Am I the only one who was disappointed when the first post wasn’t ‘does it take to change a lightbulb?’ Perhaps I’m just juvenile… the expectation though…
The “tactics” part is where this falls short. Any sort of military force that could take DR would have to leave Ascalon, cross the shiverpeaks, then all of Kryta, then assault DR.
That’s a very long trek, with a LOT of hostile forces on the way, even assuming the Lionguard, Vigil, or Norn don’t try to stop them.
And even then DR’s walls are akin to Ebonhawkes, and we all know how long it took the Charr to breach those… Charr can’t afford to deploy such a force with the ghosts, orges, flame legion, branded, and other native threats in Ascalon.
edit: Oh god, and the supply trains/logistics would be hell.
I mean, I recall talking to an NPC and mentioning that RIGHT NOW the Charr have trouble at times supplying the outlying warbands/forcings with ammo/the latest weapons.
Imagine that, only stretched from Ascalon to almost the western edge of kryta?
This does of course completely depend on the Humans’ ability to shut off Asura Gates and Waypoints… Logan might be a bit too busy running back to the Queen. To quote a fellow Guardian, 3x “Retreat!” on his bar…
Even if they did so, assuming the Vigil again takes no part, what’s to stop the Charr marching an army through the portal to Ghetto-LA?
In any case it is indeed a rather pointless question, Krytans declaring war to reclaim their homeland of Ascalo- oh wait…

Had a friend try it out in full zerk, got a fair few numbers but it wasn’t as amazing as it sounds, 2k approx highest, and they didn’t all completely explode like we had hoped. Possibly due to the high amount of conditions to trigger ‘must block first time next to a large amount of allies, allies need to lose aegis near enemies, at the same time if possible for most effect/instagib’.
It could probs be done better or otherwise situationally, but it does seem rather circrumstancial and hard to setup perfectly. Perhaps someone else can find such conditions and post a vid with “boom headshot” when it’s procc’d. I’m sure it can happen perfectly, but it will be hard to capture.
Hey, since they added the new wardrobe I’ve been looking at pieces for an alternate set, or even to change my current, something I really loved seeing was the ‘Guild Defender Shoulderplate’ – I’ve kinda had an on and off desire to use Banded shoulders, but they didn’t look ‘heavy’ enough with the rest of my armour. The main difference is that they’re a bit bigger and bulkier, and raised from the armour – I’ve looked on wiki, on dulfy, googled it, asked guildies and I can’t find them anywhere.
Was wondering if anyone could help, as it’s really what I’ve been looking for – some guildies have suggested that ANet might not actually have it in the game, which would be a real shame to me, but perhaps they’re wrong, if so maybe they’ll be nice and implement them somewhere. I can’t really post a screen, but it can best be seen in the wardrobe in heavy armours, it’s all alphabetical so look for G.
Thanks in advance for any help.
sPvP players don’t get experience by playing in it. In WvW, players gain experience from events and killing things.
I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, just pointing out that the two don’t really compare.
Players also got experience for the LA events. And much more of it than they would have gotten if they’d spent that time playing WvW. And yet, they could still buy tomes.
Fair enough! That is a better comparison, although the LA content was not permanent content.
THEY LIVE!!!
So Devs DO actually read these forums! yey hope is not lost.
Eh well, I wouldn’t go hoping just yet – Allie posted here a few weeks ago, and has since left the ArenaNet team.
this seems to have found its way off the front page, let me fix that
In my opinion Hammer’s both good and bad as a commander. You have to be rather tough to use the thing, I never do. Lack of movement compared to GS gets you killed a lot more, I feel you underestimate it. A helluva lot of people and commanders play GS/Staff, and for good reason. I try to discourage it to anyone who’s not running some major PVT, as not having that leap gets you killed pretty fast. In general for both might and healing empower is what you’ll be using more than blasts, I suppose you can use when it’s on cooldown, but regroups are the only real time you’ll use empower, and similarly where a waterfields will be down, unless on the main fight, so I don’t really see many situations where the blast would come in handy, apart from niche a bit. A 1k heal for your allies isn’t preferable to you getting killed because you’re plodding along like a dinosaur trying to keep up with everyone, or you can’t cover distance quickly when a guild smashes into the side of you in the middle of a fight.
xD and don’t say that revive traits are good, seriously that’s kinda mean to the people reading, there are any number of better things to take in that slot. Example in point being shout cd, even running a med build you’d probably take larger symbols over a revive trait. Heck you’d probably take a fall damage trait over a revive trait. You also fail to mention the icds.

An extra 15% Boon duration would be very tempting, especially considering I am already 5pts into Virtues.
No going back now!
Logan Thackeray is the best.
3 x Retreat on his bar.
Oh man give this guy a medal, a cookie and a promotion to tribune.
I think you’d be better off going Warrior than Guard as far as shields are concerned. Shield is more effective on Warrior, but even then not amazing. A lot of DPS warriors go sword/shield + GS. In any case if you don’t like GS you’d be fine grabbing an off-hand Warhorn and an axe. I liked the look of axe-shield on my warrior, but functionality for me comes above cosmetics, WvW player and dat. Movement is decent on the sword, you’ll gain an anti burst with shield, and, actually, use the shield as a shield. More than can be said for Guardian. Warrior you could also go Rifle or Longbow, double axe, double sword, double mace or any combination of the lot.
It really is a shame that shields are all but useless for Guard, and imo not good enough in-game in general. Doubly sad seeing as the Flameseeker Prophecies looks awesome.
It´s funny how much complaining is coming from Desolation regarding 2vs1.
You were the ones that teamed up with Gandara against AM in S1 and bragged here how you secured your first spot.
Alright just to make it clear, incredibly confused as to where the hell this assertion came from. I’m pretty sure that no true Gandaran would team up with a Deso player if they were the last two people on Earth to repopulate the human race.
ANet turned any “competitive” spirit in Silver League into a farce. Biggest joke since Desolation in Season 1.
So really, no surprises anywhere. All servers performed as expected, which was to be expected, because PPT is the worst scoring metric for WvW I have ever witnessed.
I’ve fixed that for you. In fairness you must be happy to have us rather than Deso though, I mean there they are saying how they would have beaten SFR except for the fact that SFR was purposefully, intentionally and quite obviously collaborating with Baruch to bring about their downfall. I can’t imagine how it would be having those who, had the competition been fair, would have toppled the king of hold league down here in Silver. Lucky they seem to have lended their tanks to Piken this season, without which they wouldn’t have been displaced into Gold. <3 you Piken, good fights fo days.
Again though there was literally nothing we could do with ANet giving us free transfers, and us being the only silver English speaking available. We had literally most of the former UW server transfer during the time bracket, and tonnes of others from all over the place. Heck we even got a French guild for some reason, who now play equally French music in Borderlands channels in the evening on the community TS. We’re less than happy swimming in immigrants who never announced their intentions to come to the server, nor did we want to be smothered in them, we even made a post on the recruitment section to ward off more. Queues have been insane the entire time since free transfers, and I’m hit doubly hard as my favourite map is EB :S
Truth is ANet decided silver league the moment they pressed the big red ‘free transfer’ button. Coverage is what wins WvW, not skill or any amount of respect or honour, all three of which can only be seen on a smaller scale, in individual fights.
I must say that the vigour nerf was a huge kick up the backside, espec when combined with the boon duration nerf, which made the vigour possible to begin with :S so yeah double nerf double kick whilst we’re down. No rallying here. To regain a respectable amount of boon duration I’ve had to swap around a lot of sigils, run AC 9 times in a day to discover that monk runes weren’t what I thought they were, rerole to water, swap to swowflake + platinum and lose a tonne of damage and other stats from that particular trinket. Only to find that I’m still lacking in general. Please think these things through or play the game before you make changes :S
Vigour uptime is one of the things that makes the class flow for me, espec. in small scale, balancing your movement and dodges with elusive power, using leaps and tele to keep agile. And before anyone starts crying ‘spamming dodge isn’t skill/mobile play’, please take your ignorance elsewhere, it’s too easy to look at someone and say ’he’s just spamming stuns’, ’he’s just spamming backstab’, ’he’s just hiding behind his OP bear plz nerf’.

‘We feel that guardian is in a good place as far as balance is concerned’ – nerfs into ground.
Rune of the Monk (6) only applies to other allies too, not the guardian himself. Benevolence sigil does the same thing but is less ambiguous in its description. Thank you for wasting my time and money on these things ANet.
There has been a noticeably higher lag level for me, if mostly passive. Big fights even outside of SM seem to create lag around the place, and everything did feel rather slow all evening with my guild, ending with a dc from me as oftentimes it does. ‘GW2 has encountered a problem and needs to close…’
I’ll try something different but still used on occasion, Signet res! Gogo Guardian, saves objectives oftentimes via Signet even if unwieldy compared to a banner.
Or change givers to add more than 1%, that wouldn’t be much to ask would it? The amount of damage you have to lose to gain anything approaching a worthwhile amount of boon duration is, in many ways, insane.
Just so you guys all know before spamming AC like I did. Rune of the Monk only increases on other allies, despite not specifying, like Benevolance sigil, so it only heals others for more, not yourself. Thanks again for that ANet :S I really would like this to be changed, considering vigour nerf, boon duration nerf (which adds to the vigour nerf)… come on ANet…
Collaborative Development Ignorance. They don’t play the game, they don’t know the game, but they make changes to the game because ‘this sounds cool’ and ‘I wonder what would happen if we did this’. Death to boon duration also, and whilst we’re at it why don’t we bankrupt every player who doesn’t want to go trait hunting, draw away skill points from superior siege crafting, and additionally cut off the limbs of server community. Wait a second is that Charr armour in the distance? Let’s continue to ignored it completely, and as in many other areas convey absolutely no information to the game community, or otherwise communicate our awareness of our overwhelming lack of anything approaching intellect, nor knowledge of our mistakes nor intent to amend such.
This is worse than their last collossal kitten-up, free transfersssssss. I sometimes wish I knew what was going on in ArenaNet’s minds, but then I realise that I’d probably lose my sanity if I ever found out. Can we please get balance patches inspired by having actuall played the game in question beforehand? Or can we at least get the Doctor to fly me back to yesterday in his TARDIS? I’m starting to think that the latter is more likely.
