Graphics don’t mean squat if the game isn’t fun
In that case, WoW loses on both counts!
I’m sure the only reason you don’t play WoW is because super expensive sub fee it has.
WoW is actually a good looking game if your system can handle ultra @ 60+ fps. Only real downside is the character models, which I hear they are working on – side note, the new races look great.
Graphics don’t mean squat if the game isn’t fun, seriously, ever play Crysis?
I don’t know, the carrot on the stick is sorta like human nature isn’t it? If there was no carrot on the stick we’d still be banging rocks together.
Removing the carrot is like being happy you still live with mom and dad when you’re 50, not even having your drivers license ect.. It’s not good practice in real life, and it’s not good practice in video games.
It might benefit these forums if people stopped accusing other people of whatever unless they actually have proof. Accusations of someone being an employee or whatever are a cheap kitten y way to discredit someones opinion and doubly contemptible when the person accusing knows full well there is no way to prove either way. Stop doing it.
……Okay dad.
50 cents a day for hours of entertainment is hardly a ripoff, unless you’re a tightwad. I calls it, how I see’s it!
I heard WoW was bleeding subs like no tomorrow, but the way they keep working the GW2 forums they must really be hurting
What do you mean you “heard” don’t you practically live on MMO-Champion?
Anyways WoW could bleed subs for another 8 years and still have more active players than GW2.
On topic, that video is pretty kitten funny.
Logging in to sell it would require downloading patches, not worth the time.
I quit months ago, but I still lurk the forums once in a while to see if anything has changed… By the looks of it, still getting worse.
Or better, depending on your point of view.
Depending on Vayne’s PoV, this game is mother kitten ing aMaZinnngggg!!!! Forevarrr Guilds for life forums for life 24/7 kittens!
Well, I’ve never called the game amazing. Not once. You can look through my posts if you want. I’ve called it good. That’s all. Good, and it needs work. It has the potential to eventually become great…I have said that.
Of course, since you don’t bother to read what I’m actually saying, you’d never know that. lol
No way in hell am I going through your novel of posts, I’ll just take your word for it man…
IMO It’s okay at best, and worth 60 bux, but meh after a play-through or two.
Again, it depends completely on your interests and play style. I have yet to find any MMO I could play for four months. Rift and Lotro were the longest, but even they were just meh to me. So it’s just a matter of opinion.
By the same token I was able to play Guild Wars 1 for close to five years. So yeah, different strokes for different folks.
So far, I’ve played this game for over 3000 hours, so I’d say I’ve gotten my money’s worth, even with the money I’ve spent in the cash shop.
Night and day difference, you and I. I thought both those games sucked, couldn’t play Lotro for more than a few hours and Rift /snore. I played GW1 and absolutely hated it – GW2 was great for a while, but I don’t agree with “Play the game how WE want you to play it, not how YOU want to play it” stance they moved to.
That play how you want thing was explained over and over again before the game launched. It didn’t say there’s be no parameters or boundaries at all. It said, basically, you could level up doing all sorts of different stuff and get top level gear. Well that’s still true. You can do dailies and get ascended stuff. Or Guild Missions. Or the fractals, or now WvW. You can level up doing just about anything but SPvP and you can SPvP without leveling up at all.
This game gives players a whole lot more freedom than other theme park MMOs where the only real way to gear up is raids.
I suppose you’re talking about WoW, which if it is, it hasn’t been that way for years. People don’t just play games to play, there is an objective, while that is subjective it, for the most people play for reward. Score, loot, shinies, you name it, that is the name of the game. Otherwise we’d still be enjoying Pong, back and forth all day, no winner no loser, no need for any other game.
Right, that’s why Skyrim was popular. Because everyone plays for shineys.
Did it occur to you that most people play MMOs for shineys because that’s all MMOs offered them and other types of players might like them if they offered something different?
You need to make more friends in your own time zone, you need someone to talk to, I am not that guy, sorry -
And yes, I don’t play MMOs just because I like to run in circles and hit mobs OHHH YAY I killled anotherone!!THEEXCITEMENTICAN’TCONTROLMYSELFOHHHIKILLEDANOTHERWHOOOPPPPIEEEEEDOOOO!!!!!
It doesn’t matter why YOU play MMOs. It wasn’t my point at all. And no, I don’t need to make friends….I have friends.
And if talking to you is bothering you, feel free not to post on a public forum. Because as far as I can tell, answering posts is part of what participating in a forum is about.
Of course, if it annoys you enough, you can always go back to wherever the hell you’ve been.
Just seems like every time I post here, it is you who wants to have a debate, I don’t want to kittening talk to you man.
Bug, nothing happens, but consumes items.
Love that one!
Bet him E-dollars, just to make him go through all his bazillion posts to find where he said “ANet/GW2 isn’t perfect”.

The dontain video has been partly debunked in these forums enough times now im surprised it still gets raised. Poorly researched, dire and biased journalism. I really wouldnt use it in an argument.
I have plenty of gripes with the game atm, prob due to overplaying it tbh. But, its a game they are evolving. Gw prophecies was the same. Dull, tedious with a badly written story. Look at the gem of a game that rose from those early days.
To answer your question, yeah id li,e an expansion too
Of course ANet wont come out and say anything, loving that new transparency! They were all personal and full of communication pre-launch, now “we made changes lolgo****yourself please insert dollar”

i have some friends that play gw2 that doesnt come to the game anymore because they have nothing to do in the game
I think this is everyone’s friend list atm. Mine is a ghost town most of the time these days, but don’t get discouraged. Stick it out for a while longer, I have a feeling we may be getting some content with some meat on it coming down the pipe soon.
I try to give MMO’s the benefit of the doubt these days. I’m giving Anet a few more months of me doing the daily and WvW. By then they should have more in game for us to do I believe.
Maybe you just make friends that play the same way you do. And I make friends that play the same way I do, because my friends list hasn’t substantially changed at all…except that it’s grown. Most of the people here at launch are still here.
How much do they pay you by the way? I may change my tone if the price is right too.
Don’t send him my way, I just worked a 12, plus I’m working the weekend /fml

iam i the only one that think that the game gets a little repetetive at the EndGame content ? yeah the new content that will come " Dragon Bash " will be great but the game is 10 months old i think , Anet when are you guys thinking of making a expansion for the game ?
i read that you guys dont have any plans for a expansion but its getting repetetive and players are getting tired and tired of playing , most players now log 5 mins do the daily and leaveSo iam i the only one that thinks that the game needs a expansion right now ?
This game is like God of War console game. It amazing, everything is cool, you complete a bunch of challenges do a ton of badassery and then put it on a shelf, maybe dust it off to show a friend, or two. Move on and wait for the next big title.

No they said the game was for everyone.
This is what you’re doing right now. Let’s say you saw an advertisement of DOOM. The first DOOM game. And it said “FPS shooter. This game is for everyone.”. You buy it having that information, you play it and go “how is this game for everyone if I can’t duel wield swords?” completely forgetting that the advertisement even stated that it’s a shooter.
Guild Wars 2 never hid the fact that it will have no gear progression. The same way that it never hid the fact that it will have no trinity. You can’t buy a game knowing its main advertising points and then claim that it should have it, even though the advertising said that it won’t.
This game is what it is and what it stated to be. If this type of MMO is not for you, then it’s not for you, you can’t change it, or claim that nobody likes it for what it is.So now its supposed to be the alternative to WoW, which ironically has a huge casual following?
WoW does not have a huge casual following. For one thing no casual would agree to pay a monthly fee just to play once a week or so. It simply does not pay when there are B2P and F2P MMOs out there.
Wrong, and wrong again.
Don’t confuse “casual” with “cheap kitten ”. WoW is 99% casual 1% Hardcore and it has been since release.
Actually, I agree with this. Maybe not about the actual percentage, but I believe the percentage of casual wow players to be huge. Much much higher than hard core.
Yeah those numbers are probably off, since they are from vanilla 1% Naxxramas 40m, probably still only like …maybe 5% to 8 % hardcore, I feel like that is even stretching it. WoW has gone way casual, it’s even more casual than GW2.

The hundreds of thousands of guilds out there beg to differ with you.
The hundreds of thousands of guilds!! Are we counting every guild that every player makes to have extra storage? Or just the ones that have 3 active players?
I love the Angry Joe review where he goes into a game store and the clerk tries to sell him WoW as best the mmo.
That’ll be $60 then sir.
That’’ll be 15 more dollars by the way
Uh 15 more dollars sir
That’ll be fifteen dollars!
15 dollars…
15 dollars!
Fifteen dollars
$15
That’ll be 15 dollars!
(Angry Joe punches out the clerk’s lights)
Joe just jumped on the bandwagon with TB and Yogs – How many videos does he do of GW2 these days? How many videos does WP do? The hype is flat, Dontain still makes videos – rarely same with MV.

*I don’t rent games.
However, I have purchased a good amount of gems to support ArenaNet*, I like that I can show my support when 1) it fits in my budget and 2) I approve of what they are doing with the game.
That sounds a lot like renting to me.
No. Renting is when you lose access to your account and characters if you don’t pay a fee that month.
Terrible way to monetize games, gamers got smart and subscription fees are going the way of the dodo.
As are good games, GW2 is an excellent single-player campaign console game. Fancy graphics and no depth.
Edit 15 a month maybe dated, but a lesser fee is great for the game in every aspect. ANet falls short in so many categories simply because they can’t offer what they can’t afford – gems are good for ANet, not for us.

You honestly you can’t budget fourteen dollars and ninety nine cents a month?
(edited by Nappychappy.7046)
Only issues I’ve have had with the cam, is the “sway” feeling – oh and the poor collision.
50 cents a day is far to much money for something that entertains you for hours!!!
Other than that, this game offers nothing in exchange for a monthly fee.
This is no attack or any sort, I’m just curious here.
I see a lot of people complaining about content being a grind in this game. I would really like to know what they would do to make it less grindy, or how they would change the game. Because to me that’s usually what mmos are about; advancing in a slow progress to an achieved goal. I mean what i’m getting out of certain players is that they want things done super quickly, but wouldn’t that make the game really boring?
I’m just super confused with some of you guys. If anyone could explain I would greatly appreciate it.
EDIT: Would also love if some of you guys could give me some other MMOs that aren’t grindy for examples!
I actually don’t mind the grind, what bugs me is the hand holding ANet does via Diminishing Returns.
“ANet: Oh look, you have been playing for 45 minutes killing x mob for something you need, you should play elsewhere for something you don’t need! Come back later for another shot of ridiculous RNG.”
If I can play 6 hours once a week, why can I only work on my goal for 3 hours? Should I play those other 3 hours, or just find something else to do? GW2 has the worst way of limiting people.
Prime example is WoW, farming raids heroics, you know you can only do them once a day, or once a week period. In GW2 you have no warning other than “I’ve been looting crap for the last 10 minutes, did I hit DR’s, or just a dry spell?”
Don’t give me crap about farming, if ANet was against farming Legendary’s would have been legendary from the start not a farm-fest of mats. Whether you’re have fun, or not the process’ of anything in the game at its very core is farming.
Just move around and don’t keep killing the same stuff, and the DR doesn’t kick in. I do it all the time. Why do you insist on killing the same stuff over and over or staying in one small area?
There is a small group of people that complain about open world DR, but I’m not convinced that most even know what it is, or ever experience it.
Why do you insist on moving around? You’re doing the same thing, just in different areas.
True tunnel vision YOU have, if ANet continues to back-peddle you will eventually come to your senses.
Maybe not, I mean it’s B2P, and I know how much B2P gets praised just for the fact that some people think 15 a month is a rip-off… OMG 50 cents a day I has a family!!!
Why shouldn’t I move around? That’s not tunnel vision. I think you’ll find for most people, staying in one spot is boring. It might not be for you.
But bots tend to kill the same mobs over and over too. So it’s a logical thing for Anet to do.
Because you think it is boring, I don’t play like you, many people don’t play like you, and many people have goals. My goal shouldn’t be hampered by a kitten war against bots. Why are there bots any ways? Wasn’t that the whole point of gem =/= cash + play came in? Legally selling gold, taking the power out of the 3rd party’s hands? DR’s have removed bots from parts of the game, also have made it hell for players, that is NOT fixed, that is lazy. Players are now better off to cheat with a second account than actually play the game for things they want so that they can move on and do something different.
Not all players want to run in circles all day and claim how awesome it is to just rerun old content over and over and over and over!
Do what you want, take a break, new content? Do more content.. Some people have all day to play the game and all night to post about it, well, I don’t and gaming is a luxury and until ANet realizes that time spent is the true commodity, they will continue to disappoint people.
Game is B2P, it will sell, but it will never be any thing great.
It’s already something great to a lot of people. Talk about tunnel vision.
It doesn’t fit the way you play, so it will never be great.
Maybe it’s just not the game for you…which is okay. But that doesn’t make it a bad game. In fact, it can be a great game and not for everyone.
Again:
" It’s extremely important that we stay true to our philosophy that you should be able to play Guild Wars 2 the way you want to play the game in order to reach the most powerful rewards. "
“If you love MMOs, you’ll want to check out Guild Wars 2, and if you hate MMOs, you’ll really want to check out Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 takes everything you love about Guild Wars 1 and puts it into a persistent world that’s got more active combat, a fully-branching, personalized storyline, a new event system to get people playing together, and still no monthly fees.”
Who has the tunnel vision?
This is no attack or any sort, I’m just curious here.
I see a lot of people complaining about content being a grind in this game. I would really like to know what they would do to make it less grindy, or how they would change the game.

Wasn’t me, I resubbed wow 15.00, xfered servers 25.00, faction switched 30.00 and bought MoP 39.99…
I mean Anet could have had that money, but diminishing returns are a kitten.
Don’t worry, I spent 5x that much yesterday on the game. For every quitter there is a supporter :P
Yes I know, even 5x times what I spent, still money went to competition and lets not forget about the masses who refuse to spend any money at all on the game other than purchasing it.
It’s not the competition. It’s another game that has a different audience. I don’t like and wouldn’t play WoW. To me, it’s not competing for you. This game is offering me what I want. That game is offering you what you want.
I guess that’s why some people eat at one restaurant and some people eat at another.
What’s it like being oblivious?
LMAO! I suppose I could ask you the same question.
There are tons of people out there who don’t like WoW. I mean a lot, not just two or three. It’s entirely possible that there are more people who don’t like WoW than like it. WoW appeals to enough people to keep going.
Guild Wars 2 has a similar situation. There are people who don’t like it because it’s not particularly aimed at them. It’s aimed a different audience. If that’s oblivious so be it.
Frankly, I think I’d rather be oblivious that be completely fixated on something as minor as DR.
You could ask me the same thing, but I asked you first, what are going to play the shadowgame now?
It’s funny you say you don’t like WoW but yet you love GW2, is it because WoW is P2P? Is it because GW2 offers you BiS for little to no work?
Really there isn’t to much different between the games.
@ Geotherma.2395
If Anet removed DR’s, I’d still be playing it. I don’t hate gw2, so please, stop trolling me because I no longer play, but still would rather be playing. At any rate, I’ll still check back now and then to see if they removed it.
I’m sure you will be here preaching about how great the game is you never play because 24/7 forum trolling definitely proves that.

@ Vayne, yeah there is a lot more to games than farming, but ANet doesn’t get it and you don’t get it, but hey continue the oxymoron.

I can’t wait for the warrior nerf. It’s going to be entertaining as hell.
Warrior is what ANet wants to balance all other classes with. Wasn’t that the purpose of limiting the skills so they could easily balance the game? If they do nerf the warrior, they will only prove to everyone that they are not only lazy, but incompetent.
In your opinion. It’s your opinion that Anet is lazy. Its your opinion nerfing the warrior would be incompetent. And that’s okay that that’s your opinion.
Others have different opinions. Anet is one of the least lazy companies I’ve come across. There’s a ton of work to do, and they’re doing it.
Where did you hear that Anet wanted to balance other professions around the Warrior btw?
Pretty sure anet said they were happy with where warrior was.
It’s fun, it is truly a fun game to play, but it’s “single player” game fun. I think the game is best first play through, but where it different from other mmorpgs is that the “eureka” moment, where in other mmorpgs you “now understand everything” in this game (imo) it hits like a brick and boredom sets in. It leaves this whole “what now” feeling topped with a big fat “why bother”.
I can’t wait for the warrior nerf. It’s going to be entertaining as hell.

After having read different sections of the forum. I’ve come to realize that players have a lot of issue (including my self) with how certain things are being run in game. The answer to all your problem is simple people. “Option -> Log off game”. Go spend time with your friends and family. I do it daily after logging on to see if any guildies online then log off if nothing happening
Or, you could just play the game and not worry about the forums. If DR’s were removed, that’s where I would be.
Other than that, you can take your own advice and log off the forums if you don’t like it.
Someone need to learn to read before trying to be a smart skritt, the OP state nothing about the forum being the problem but about the game.
Simple solution to all the QQ
L2R yourself.
I started last weekend to play GW1, since I want the HoM Points.
At the beginning I wanted to do all 30 Points, but now I’m happy when I get to Level 10 and get the 3 points from linking the accounts.
Sorry, but I can’t see whats so great about GW1.
When you start a new game, meet friends, enjoy the game, enjoy the lore and build an attachment to all of the above and your characters, you would.
Simply playing a game, to have more fluff in it’s successor is a hard way to see what is so special.
I was watching the boys play pandaland today, lower level zones have tons of people in them, I’ve heard them cuss out loud after being ganked, or laughing their kitten off after ganking, those are the things that make people log in day after day. Also, building some attachment to you little pixel man/woman in the process.
One thing about this game, I give zero farks about any of my characters. But this guy, I luv em’, even though I no longer play and have no desire to play again esp after RAF.
You are rewarded for playing the game.
What is the problem here??Do you want to be rewarded for doing nothing??
Do you not want to be rewarded at all??I just got back from not playing Gw2 for a week…
Did I lose anything?
No.
Am I going to be punished?
No.
Where in your diluted minds do you feel that the dailies MUST be done?
Why do you feel that doing a daily is “a chore?”
The word daily.
When x is given by doing x once a day and only once, it becomes a chore. Why not let people just get as many as they want in 1 sitting?
Because thats bad game design?
Oh I see you beaten the horrible ogre monster, take as many as my virgin daughters as you wish! What the hell.
Do you not understand the part that you’re not forced to do them.
You have a freaking choice. You’re not forced, and you gain no advantage, what’s the point of locking out people who don’t play every day? This game is made for people who play in moderation and then gives rewards to those who are committed to logging in every day. So which is it? A game you occasionally play, or one you must commit to in order to get rewards?
-edit, btw, I’ve only done 1 daily since they were introduced.
Gain no advantage?
What you talking about Willis? You get to trade in your laurels for awesome cosmetic stuff like minipets and unident dyes and even ascended accessories.
Again things that you DONT need, sure ascended trinkets and stuff are nice to have, so work for them for if you want, I only started playing Gw2 again 16 days ago and I have 16 laurels, how is this a chore?
Log in, nothing to do, look at dailies, do dailies, run a couple of dungeons, clear a map call it a night in 3 hours.
Do you take an entire day to do your dailies?
Dailies are something I do at the start and it takes 40 minutes tops.
Cosmedics, mini’s, ascend is an advantage? BTW, did you read where I said I only did 1 daily since they were introduced? I don’t think they are a chore because I don’t care about them; however ANet should stick it out with a design choice and stop jumping all over the place.
A marginal Advantage thats easy to get.
And yes Anet shouldnt have added them that much I agree, after saying no gear grind.Thing is, you say you dont care, yet you are here giving cares.
Whats up with that?
Because I show support to other gamer’s who do?
I wish I had more support on the DR issues, but hey, if it doesn’t effect you, then who cares right?
Probably even harder for the key turners… Oh god, could you imagine key turning, not dodging and using a 2 button mouse?

WoW had an unstable launch because more people were playing it AT LAUNCH, than what Ultima Online and EverQuest had at their peaks COMBINED. In the minds of many, World of Warcraft created the MMORPG genre. Including many suits at NCsoft and Nexon, shamefully.
By googling for 15 seconds: WoW had about 200,000 accounts created at launch, Everquest peaked at 450,000 accounts. You were saying?
Dear god I wasn’t going to post but “World of Warcraft created the MMORPG genre” wtf… who taught you this troll sentence, they need to be shot…
They made it mainstream, which made mmorpgs what they are today.
There were many before them which ushered in the genre. MUDS before those, and many other styles which really brought about the genre. people seem to think WoW made MMO, and it didn’t. It may have structured things in a way that many copy, but in no way invented the idea. Many..Many games came before it, and many will come after. Not many developers even care to try and emulate it anymore because they are smarter than that. Publishers however have yet to break free from it. GW2 is a start, and it is still young. Developing, programming and designing is not easy. And even after it is all done you still have bugs and things you can’t find unless you have stressed out the game with millions of players and millions of people doing billions of things every day. You fix and adjust, just as any business model would. I just find statements like that appalling… seriously. WoW is not a template, people need to learn history. And mainstream isn’t always a good thing, sometimes being on the fringe is far more entertaining and rewarding. Look at music, movies, books. being a blockbuster doesn’t make you good, nor does it guarantee your fame or success forever. Someone will outdo someone else, and the chain continues.
Nothing ushered like World of Warcraft.
I didn’t say mainstream was a good thing, but in this case it was, look at all the MMORPG’s we have today and in the future. That success gives us AAA games.
Kholer is boring, not hard.
You are rewarded for playing the game.

Find a guild that doesn’t exploit and stick with them, other than that – path of least resistance.
