How is this Reaper MM build for PvE?

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNBhQD7kZTobTscTwyGg9GsMNYSDgCQAI+DmCfhUxgbQmC

I created a thread recently asking for tips when I got my Necromancer to lv80.

Now after playing it for 2~ days I realized some things about me:

• I want to play in every role possible, that is why I’m so indecisive about builds. In other words,I want Blood Magic for support, but I also want Soul Reaping because I want to be in Reaper form most of the time, since this build is melee oriented

• My problem is that I don’t expect people to bring anything good to fights in PvE and WvW. Example: I feel forced to bring boon removal or group condition removal (Like the wells) because I think people are selfish and will not have it,but most of the time they have.

• While my Shouts are traited,I just can’t use all shouts in utitilies slot,I feel like the build looks really bland if I do that,so I feel forced to get an utility that is untraited (example: Wells)

• Is that normal that my build don’t have any AoE boon?

• Ive heard that Spite is the to-go trait for pure damage, but I feel that the traitline sucks.

• I just can’t play without the 25% bonus movement speed, but I also don’t feel like sacrificing a slot for that signet.

For WvW,how would you change this build?

Btw,I’m full berserker.

PS: I don’t feel like using any other weapons other than GS,Dagger/Warhorn and maybe Staff.

I hate the Axe and Focus gameplay x(

Thanks in advance!

What do you think about Augury of Death?

All builds Ive seen for Reaper takes Chilling Nova instead.

I think both are great, and since I’m aiming for a melee/minion build with Reapers Shroud,Augury of Death would be great for more survivability.

While Chilling Nova is great for more damage.

I’m using Chilling Nova right now because everyone takes it so it must be superior to Augury of Death, but if I ever take Augury of Death I think will change my elite to Chilled to the Bone, because since I’m melee the synergy would be better than Golem I think…(Because it is not guaranteed that golem will hit the target you want for the cripple)

What would be a good build then? Because I would like to use shouts too…not just minions.
Would “Rise” and another minion skill be enough? What about secondary weapon set? Full melee with dagger focus or staff for ranged support?

So…not too long ago I remember people hating on minions and minion master builds for PvE.

But now with the release of HoT it seems like every build is using either,Death Magic traitline or “Rise” and 2~ other minons as utilities.

Also even builds that are not built around minions are using Flesh Golem.

I just hit lv80 on my alt necro and I used a minion/death magic build till lv80 because I enjoy the concept and it was awesome be a minion master in Guild Wars 1 so I wanted to try it in Guild Wars 2.

Now that I’m lv80 and I already have the elite spec unlocked (all of it,thanks to EotM) I kinda wanted to mix things up and use a melee build because Reaper’s Shroud look awesome!

The problem is because while searching for a build (went up to page 10 on this subforum, and also tried MetaBattle) it seems like everyone is using minion,so I suppose melee build isnt viable at all.

Or better,it is viable, but worse than a build using minions, and the more I look at it,it actually makes sense…Also even if I wanted to be a melee reaper, death magic would be helpful because it gives toughness per minon controlled so = more tankyness in frontline.

Are minions really that useful for Reaper ? I know they were useful while leveling my Necro, because I could spec into 3 specializations and most necro utitilies are bad in PvE in my opinion,so using a Well + 2 Minions utilities + Golem was pretty much the only viable options, and with 3 specs I could spec into Death Magic,Blood and Spite.

Also,Eather Feast or Well of Eternity?

Neither. Go Signet of the Ether with Blurred Inscriptions, which also recharges Echo of Memory. Incidentally, I prefer Illusions over Inspiration due to reduced illusion recharge, reduced shatter recharge, and Persistence of Memory, which synergizes so well with Chronophantasma. This too reduces the recharge of Echo of Memory, for even more blocking/iAvenger spam.

On the other hand, Insipiration doesn’t really offer anything. Persisting Images is completely unnecessary now with the change to “pet” damage and the increased speed of our shatter cadence. The heal from Restorative Illusions is paltry, and Illusionary Inspiration, while a great skill in a party-based build, really offers nothing in open world PvE.

I really think you’re best served to switch out Inspiration for Illusions and go with Persistence of Memory, Shattered Strength/Phantasmal Haste, and Master of Fragmentation.

Wow! This is some serious synergy!

I’ll try this, but I’ll miss Illusionary Inspiration and the Alacrity from the healing well (it feels great because you can cast it at your feet to heal allies and get alacrity as a bonus)

But this synergy with the Signet removing conditions and giving distortion looks too good to pass up! Thanks for the advice!

Thanks everyone posting in this thread,I’m reading every reply carefully, and learning from them!

Could anyone take a look on this build I’m currently using and tell me if it is “okay” or not?

I have Maguuma Meta events in mind (especially Dragon Stand) and sometimes EotM with slightly changes.

Also,Eather Feast or Well of Eternity?

Which is the most underwhelming well in your opinion? (for PvE/EotM,not PvP)

@Edit

Forgot to say that I still can’t decide between Inspiration for heals and condition cleansing or Illusions for more damage.

My logic is,Mesmer damage is already bad…so why bother trying to focus on it? But then I think about that cooldown reduction on Shatter skills from Illusions and switch back to it…Even if now I’m used to the heals and condition removal

Thanks for the amazing replies!

I just finished Chronomancer and wow…it is so hard to play! And I’m not even talking about gameplay here (which is harder than Dragonhunter, which is my main,I must say) but it has so many options…I want to have all the wells on my skillbar all the time (but I can’t live without Blink) and the elite, the F5…it’s overwhelming.

I’m having some fun now with Domination,Inspiration and Chronomance. But I don’t know if I’ll keep it because I don’t think the healing from Inspiration is necessary in Open World, what do you guys think? Meta events in maguuma are actually harder…but Inspiration may be overkill.

But I may use it in EotM,I may try a more surport-ish build there since Mesmers can’t do a lot of damage in such a short period of time, and everything happens so fast in WvW/EotM

Deceptive Evasion is still used?

Sorean.5379

After a long time I created a Mesmer again (I deleted mine long ago) and now at lv80 and almost done with Chronomancer (80%) I’ve been looking for some builds just to get an idea of what is good and what is not (I don’t actually follow premade builds, because most of them are “spam 1 and don’t click anything else to not lose DPS”) and I noticed people are not using Deceptive Evasion anymore…

I remember it was a MUST HAVE trait when it was a lv40 trait, and now looks like a few builds don’t use it,I don’t know if Chronomancer changes anything (I actually haven’t played with it yet,I just leveled this Mesmer to lv80)

Also, can anyone answer this real quick:

How is shield? Is it good? Because I know shields have a bad reputation in PvE because most of them are useless (if not all) but I love it,I still use it on my Guardian just because :P

I still have to read all Chronomancer skills (as I said,I leveled him to lv80 and got 80% of Chronomancer done with spare hero points I had when I hit 80) but I plan on using:

Sword/Shield and Greatsword

This is for general PvE (like Maguuma meta events) and maybe EotM (it doesnt count as PvP right?)

tl;dr:
• Deceptive Evasion is overkill for Chronomancers?
• Shield: Yay or Nay? (PvE)

It works just like any other training line – except all the skills, traits, skins, abilities, etc. are all inside one full training line that costs 400 points to get everything in the entire line. It costs 60 points to unlock and be able to play as the elite specialization itself.

The way I see it,to play as the Specialization itself you only need 60 points.

The rest is used to unlock the armor skin, weapon skin and the runes.

If you want to play as a Dragonhunter for example, all you need is 60 points and you will already be able to wield a Longbow and your profession icon will change to the Dragonhunter one.

I don’t think so.

People have different opinions on “what is good”. Warriors were OP back then, and you didn’t see only Warriors running around because of that.
Some people enjoy playing their profession and that will not change because of HoT.

Sure, everyone and their dogs will be playing the new specs on release, but just because it is new, give it 1~ month and everyone will settle on something (Some will stay in their elite spec, and some will go back to normal professions)

One of the reasons I’ll do that is because if I just create him and make him lv80 with tomes I will be lv80 with like 5% of the map,and I hate being high level in low level areas just to get waypoints etc,it is such a chore…I hate it. I prefer to get waypoints while leveling.

Stop hating on Dragonhunter and Daredevil,at least they are original. Or kind of original,it is pretty much impossible to be original in the Internet these days. Everything has already been created or used in other things. I think Warhorn fits way better than sword.

Why? Because the power of destruction of the warhorn is way bigger than a simple sword.
Yes,I know they imbue the sword with magic etc,but a powerful blow with the warhorn can be devasting, and the warhorn can create a “new element” (?) maybe? like Wind…

And wind can form storms, fire becomes way more devasting with wind, like a fire tornado etc…

Swords would have more “meh” spells/skills imo,now with warhorn you can be way more creative when creating spells because they dont need to create new animations or something. Or scrap a skill because creating an animation for it with a sword would be too problematic.

How Elementalists would cast a storm with a sword, for example?

Now with warhorn…they can just use the regular warhorn animation (blowing) and bam! the spell is cast.

So, I got my first Precursor today (besides buying one last year) from the Mystic Forge. The Colossus. A couple of weeks back I started throwing 4 cheap random rares in, once every 2 or 3 days whenever I got them, and was shocked to have that show up.

6,613 hours.

Nice.

I really want to get a precursor this way. Randomly throwing rares at the MF.

@on topic
I got 2 a while back,The Hunter and Zap,but I was trying to get both,it was not randomly at all.

The Hunter was a surprise because I used random rares (like 1 hammer,1 bow, etc…) and I got it,but I was still trying for a precursor.

Since I found out that MF dropped precursors I started using all the gold I got into the MF and I had no luck. Everytime I saved about 150g~ I would spend it all on rares,I was broke all the time lol.

By the way,the gold I got from The Hunter and Zap,I wasted it all on rares and got 0 precursors.

Nothing we can do about it.
We pay more because the quality is way higher. PS4 Games takes way more effort to create than a simple PSOne game. People have to work more, people have to be paid more.

No way they can keep selling a game for the same price if the work has doubled

A Detailed Comparison for HoT

Posted by: Sorean.5379

Sorean.5379

Well,I prefer GW2 over GW1 now,in 2015.
Maybe GW1 was fun…back in 2008.

Also,$50 was a lot of money back then (2006~) and they would be crazy to charge that much for it,while $50 isn’t worth much today, this is fact.
Maybe this analogy will suck but lets try:

Back in,lets say,2001 we had Kinder Surprise. It used to cost like 0,50 cents and it was an acceptable price.
Now,in 2015 the very same Kinder Surprise (not bigger, not better, don’t have better surprises) costs $1,50 (approx. 3,00 BRL here) and yet it is still an acceptable price.
Why? Because back then minimum wage was way less than it is today. Today minimum wage is more than it was,but if the prices stayed the same people would get…errr..“richer” and this is not how the world rolls lol.

I think they have said sometime ago that a single GW2 zone was the equivalent of a whole zone in GW1 or something like that.

Hell, you can even see it just by looking at Lions Arch. You could run around in GW1’s Lions Arch in like 1 minute, while it would take you like 5 to do that in GW2’s Lions Arch.

I think that the time it takes to create a GW2 map (like Verdant Brink) is enough to create a whole new Zone in GW1.
Not to mention that GW1 maps were very simple to do,they only had 1 possible path most of the time and like 70% of the map was made with inaccessible places (mountains etc)

Except that a whole map in GW1 isn’t 1/4 of a GW2 map in level of detail, size and quality.

The detail, graphic, effects and details in GW2 are way harder to do than it was in GW1.
Also,GW2: HoT is an EXPANSION,it shouldn’t be compared with 2 STAND ALONE CAMPAIGNS.

The only fair comparasion would be GW:EotN and GW2:HoT

Trust me,you guys are not complaining because the $50 pack doesnt offer a character slot.

The forums are chaotic just because the expansion doesnt come with a character slot? really? can you guys just stop for a moment and notice how little this problem actually is? And how chaotic you guys are making the forums because of something so silly?

Can you guys at least be honest and admit that you are just jumping in the HoT-Price-Hate Bandwagon? Would be less embarrassing.

But yeah,I think my most expensive DROP was worth like 100g or LESS,never more.

But if you count MF,then I got The Hunter and Zap (800g and 700g)
Got the Hunter while using random rares (like shield, sword, hammer, bow = BAM,The Hunter) and Zap I was trying really hard to get one.
Wasted like 500g (100g+100g+100g+100g+100g,basically everytime I got 100g I wasted it on rare swords) before I bought like 80g worth of swords and got Zap
