Watchwork pick is currently available, hate if I kick start your OCD but it’s a great item to have and use.

I was looking at those – there are all these unbreakable top tier harvesting items being sold, right? Is there no difference between them except for the cosmetic look? Seemed like there were a few of each type (axe, pick, sickle).

In all honesty though, I probably don’t need one. I have stack after stack of BL harvesting tools I never used, which I got from chests, in pursuit of various skins (that mostly never dropped – trying [and failing] to get a fused weapon was the nail in the coffin for me the last time around).

I wish I could say that you’ve missed too much to come back, but I can’t.

I re-installed the game, and spent like half an hour just blinking at my stuffed inventory, browsing the TP and seeing all the crazy new skins.

It’s pretty overwhelming.

Also kicking myself for using the Winter’s skins back in the day, instead of holding onto them – those things sell for almost the price of a Legendary. It’s crazy.

The skins from the first halloween and wintersday are crazy expensive right now. I think it was on the first wintersday that the permanent hair stylist kit was avaliable, that thing is the second most expensive item on tp right now.

It’s probably a good thing I didn’t get one from my BL chests – I would have bound them, and gone bonkers now, seeing the prices (that’s what I did with the two Wintersday skins I rolled).

As someone who spent a ton of real world cash back in the day trying to get a precursor to drop via the Mystic Forge, I wouldn’t recommend that route. The chance that it won’t happen and all your money will be gone is just too high.

Personally, I’d just save your pennies and try to buy it directly. Who knows, maybe you’ll find one while you’re saving up!

Nope. It’s never too late to start again. But be aware there are some cool changes coming up for new (and returning) players. As far as the Living story, season 1 is not replayable at this time. It is something they would like to implement, but later down the road. Also if you missed the first few episodes of season 2, they can be unlocked again permenently for all your characters via the gem store (300 gems per episode I believe) but are not playable until level 80.

Welcome back!!

Ah, that’s too bad about Season 1 – but I suppose it’s not a big deal. I caught a few of those, at least.

Thanks for the clarification about Season 2 episode cost-to-unlock. I have no doubt I’ll be okay dropping a few gems if I get really back into the game, again.

You didnt miss much. The lvl cap is the same, we have ascended gear but exotics is still good for everything, everyone has the same stats in pvp, and right now the gem store brought back some old items in sale, so if you start to play again your OCD may make you buy everything that is in sale :P

I have a few ascended jewelry pieces, I think – I stopped playing right around the time bounties were introduced. It’ll be interesting to see what other ascended gear is out there, and how much of a slog it is to get it.

And good to know about the gem store – I’ll hide my wallet!

I never stopped playing so my opinion may be worthless, but I’d say it’s worth reinstalling, though it’ll cost you a few gems to open up the season 2 parts you’ve missed (first 3 parts iirc)

Hope you have a good time and welcome back

Thanks for the friendly words!

So, I played the game at launch for about a month, hit the level cap, and stopped.

Then, around Christmas of the first year, I started playing again, and got super into it – played for about six months before I was spending way too much on gems, doing the pseudo-OCD thing and trying to get everything ever.

Haven’t touched the game since. That’s been… what? A year and a few months since I’ve played?

One of my friends that played at launch is interested in picking it up again, but…

It feels like I might have missed way too much, in terms of exclusive items, PVP, communities, daily/monthly challenges, etc, etc.

That said, I guess you can replay Living Story events you missed now, or something? So that’s cool…

And maybe I’m just being silly thinking “I NEED TO HAVE EVERYTHING” to play again.

Thoughts? Anyone else that stopped playing for a long time and came back? Have I missed too much, or is that just a silly psychological quirk I need to get past?

Thanks in advance!

So what's the deal?

I don’t know, I like the idea of semi-exclusivity for the skins.

They’d probably bring the current skins back at some point down the road, but having a completely different set next time seems cool.

It will also keep the saturation of the Super Weapons down a bit. They’re awesome skins and all, but it would get a little tiring if those were just about the only weapons anyone was wielding.

Yes, you may feel compelled to grind for more skins (I know I will), but eh. Better than feeling compelled to grind the World Bosses every day forever…

What is Your Opinion on Warrior Banners?

in PvP

Posted by: TheAngryLuddite.1834

TheAngryLuddite.1834

Banners definitely seem to be kind of map centric – a banner build works pretty decently if you want to set up shop in the clocktower, for example, but they’re pretty much garbage on a map like spirit watch where mobility is key, and camping a spot isn’t going to do you much use, since the orb can neutralize your point just by touching it.

Posted by: TheAngryLuddite.1834

TheAngryLuddite.1834

I never used the non-elite banners really, but just started trying a new build with them.

They might be useful in point defense though where mobility isn’t an issue. Been trying out a build with banner regen and a ton of other survivability/crowd control.

Pop the defense banners on a point, and knock everyone off, stay alive, keep the cap control.

As long as you don’t get three-teamed, they can be helpful in staying alive while you stalemate-fight, but keep the point control.

It’s something I’d like to experiment with. Not sure how feasible it is. We can’t currently remove the camera control from the player.

Ah, I had a feeling that might be the case.

Day 1 of SAB, I was amazed how much the team had been able to alter the game’s core foundation, and figured that would have taken some tricky clever coding. Makes sense that there would be limits to what can be tweaked.

I was just playing SAB, and on the Zone 1 Boss, I tweaked the camera so it was isometric.

Suddenly it seemed like it would be really cool to have a special bonus level – like the minecart – in the future, that was set entirely from an isometric perspective, like the original Zelda.

Doing the same with a Mario (side-scrolling) perspective on one bonus level would also be awesome.

I think it makes the most sense to bring it back when new content is added.

It would be kind of a bummer if it was only once a year on April, though that makes the most sense.

If it does stay permanently, though, the rare TP skin versions will be worth around 2g before long, essentially removing the need to actually get baubles to acquire skins, which seems like an unintended consequence.

We regret the situation that you wrote about and would like to give you a few details: There was a brief outage with the login server on March 29th that affected a few of our other servers. As a result, some players may have experienced a minor loss of some progression. The dev team has taken a look at the issue, and they confirm that the conditions that caused this situation were very rare and that they do not anticipate that such a thing will happen again. They also confirm that due to the nature of the outage, we will be unable to restore any progression (character, guild, or otherwise) or items lost as a result of the issue.

Which is awesome, because that was the last Guild Bounty we were doing before reset. So much for this week’s commendations…

I mean, let’s be honest. I love this game. Why else would I keep playing it?

(Besides addiction – those dailies sure have worked a number on me)

But seriously. I’ve been a strong proponent of Guild Wars 2 from the start, and that won’t change any time soon, despite the little paper wings I give my little digital dollar bills, as I abandon them to Abaddon’s Maw (see: the TP).

It actually reminds me a bit of Facebook. You know how everyone loves to hate on Facebook (but keeps using it anyway, warning everyone they’re going to delete their account a bunch of times, instead of actually doing so)?

Well, every time Facebook changes their design, or adds some shady new privacy feature (or lack thereof), there’s a mass rumbling, threatening a mass exodus. And what happens?

Not much. A few groups pop up (which is a deprecated feature in Facebook, actually – tinfoil hat material, that) boycotting it. A few websites publish angry articles (often Gawker – at least, back in the day). And then, people forget. The fifteen minutes of fame and anger have passed, and the internet is off searching for the next big shame pinata.

Pretty similar here, I think.

Before long we’ll forget how bad the drop rates were for Fused weapons (until the next chest-skin-drop event, where we need to reference past chest-skin-drop events), and will find something else to complain about.

And to some things, the team will (graciously) listen. To some things, they won’t.

That, as a consumer, is our lot in life.

And, as Good Riddance reminds, “Just learn to be a good consumer – you’re now a number, you’ve no longer got a face.”

Seriously though. Kittens and fluffy bits of fur aside, great game. Love it.

My luck with RNG? Not so much…

If the weapons are, then one would assume the tickets are as well.

On another note, I plunged for a few more (because of sunk costs, or escalation of commitment, or beer).

At last, I saw a shred of paper. I had it! I felt relief. I was done.

Turns out it was a Name Change Contract.

But hey – I’ve been meaning to change my Charr’s name to that of my cat, anyway.

I think one of the more interesting bits (arguably) about this, is how it actually does increase demand.

There’s a part of our lizard brains that want these skins even more, because they are so rare.

I mean, I gotta admit, if this was a skin I could work toward (like the similar destroyer skins, or the conjure axe skin), I’d probably say – meh – I’ll go for something else, from an aesthetic perspective.

And yet, I have found myself compelled to want one – because – well…

When I really think about it. Why was that again?

Seriously fascinating stuff, here.

Or maybe I’m just finally getting drunk.

TheAngryLuddite.1834

There is no thinking involved. You get the chest knowing full well that it is RNG and that you have a slim to virtually nonexistent chance of getting what you want.

I agree, and I don’t. Perhaps because no one wants to be called a sucker, even if they know they probably are. More to the point, I’d rather not think Anet thinks I’m a sucker for buying their chests. If that is in fact the case, well… that just sucks.

My point is that right now the Fused skins are being presented unfairly – as in, they are being presented as having a reasonable chance of dropping from Black Lion chests.

Did you see the latest newsletter?

This is how the Fused weapons were presented (and I’m cutting and pasting here):

New Items in the Gem Store!
Gather around the warm glow of the Campfire, a new item that provides powerful buffs to players who stoke the flames. Give your weapons that hybrid Molten Alliance look with 16 new Fused weapon skins, which can be found in the Black Lion Chest. Rename your character with the new Name Change feature!

I understand that’s probably a different team that put that together, but if you read that, you wouldn’t think the new weapons were a hyper-rare drop.

To put things in perspective, I got the Endless Mystery Tonic – yet no ticket. That’s great and all, and I’m aware that RNG is RNG, but my point, I guess, is that the tickets currently seem to have a pretty silly drop rate.

That said… if fools we are for gambling on the skins, then fools we are, and I suppose we should – as you say – stop throwing our money at the RNG items we want (and stupidly think are attainable – because that’s what the marketing is telling us).

Essentially, I am arguing that if they are going to offer something so prominently, as they are with the Fused skins, the drop rate should not be prohibitive – especially when it’s account bound, and especially when you are either paying real money, or dealing with the atrocious gold to gem exchange rates.

You are the reason why ANet keeps adding stuff to the Black Lion Casino Chests. Stop spending so much money and you’ll make more of a point than complaining on the forums can.

While I agree that complaining is bound to do little, blaming the players for spending money on what they think will result in a new skin, seems a little unfair.

The whole situation of Black Lion skin drops seems a bit like a few steps forward, a few steps back.

At Halloween, the Halloween skins had a dismal drop rate. If you got lucky though, it wasn’t account bound and you could make a pretty penny off it. Call it a Lose-Win situation.

Come Christmas, weapon skins were account bound, but even though you could get a ticket as a drop from the Wintersday Gem chests, you could also buy them from the store. Most would agree this is ideal, and a Win-Win situation, I think.

Now, Fused skins are account bound, and you can only get them from a very low RNG chance from BL chests. Really seems like a Lose-Lose Situation.

If this is a step backward from the Wintersday situation, I don’t think it’s fair to blame the consumers. With a drop rate that seems crazy low (0/100 in my case, more for some of the others posting here), I don’t think any of us were expecting such a poor rate of return.

I would ask the devs: do you think that the current drop rates for Fused skins (whatever they are), are fair? Right now it seems abysmally low, almost as bad (though I’m sure it’s not THAT low) as permanent items.

With a return rate this low, it just seems like a bit of a burn to people that are willing to put substantial money back into the game.

Cliffside fractal is too kitten annoying

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: TheAngryLuddite.1834

TheAngryLuddite.1834

This is one of those many fractals that is actually easier in the 30+ range, because most players know what they’re doing by that point.

Bottom line on this one, is if you screw up on the arm seals (and don’t communicate well enough prior, saying, DO NOT KILL TARGET), you’re going to have a Bad Time. It’s doable once both sides are popped, yes, but it’s a bit of a nightmare, takes ages, and will probably see your party wipe enough to ragequit before completing this part.

Hasn’t happened to me in a while, but it sucks when it does.

Thus, it’s always good to pause before the arm seals and make sure the whole party is on the same page before rushing in. If the arm seals go well, the fractal goes well.

It’s one of those ‘either,’ ‘or’ fractals, no doubt about it.

That said, the health pool on the cultist when the level starts should definitely be nerfed – that part is easy but boring, because it takes forever.

It’s terrible, to me, how some very small changes to their mechanics could make them so much better as bosses, and yet I don’t think Rob and the dungeon team are really pursuing those changes.

I wish I could convince them that it’s worth it! This is supposed to be the hard content!

From the relatively small amount of communication about fractals from the team on the forums right now, I’m guessing fractals are presently on the backburner, while they focus on the living story/wvw updates currently in progress. It would be awesome if this month’s update (or next month’s update), had some surprise fractal updates, but it doesn’t seem likely right now.

So far all I’ve gleaned from dev posts is that they are ‘monitoring’ the dissatisfaction with the maw chest, and that additional fractal content is planned at some point (new levels, new ascended gear).

I’m thinking a major fractal overhaul is due, and will certainly happen – probably giving due attention to the more lackluster bosses, in addition to the brand new content – but I’m also thinking it may not be for a few months yet. Would love to be wrong on that, however.

Swamp fractal...

It has nothing to do with him being hard, it has everything to do with his absolutely massive health pool and the fact that he stealths for 50% of the fight (sometimes he stealths back-to-back). His fight takes way too long, is very unsatisfying, and the only real threat that he carries comes from throwing agony-axes while he is invisible.

I don’t disagree. I’d say that goes for a lot of fractal bosses, right now.

The only one I can think of that’s particularly fun right now really is the dredge fractal boss – I used to hate that boss when I started playing fractals. It would take ages, and often my parties would just give up and quit. Now that I know how to do it (as does pretty much any PUG upward 20), it’s fun and quick in almost every case. Kind of like the Swamp (pre-mossman).

About half of the bosses right now have exhaustive health pools, but are easy to take out. I’d say it’s something like this right now:

Not So Bad:

Asuran Golems – Small health pools, generally easy all around
Ascalonian Captain – Agony AoE blast is avoidable, goes down fast with vets on him before that
Dredge Suit/Ice Ele – Easy as long as your party knows what they’re doing (although the fractal is painfully long, but hey, at least you get drops on this one)
Bloomhunger – Goes down pretty quick, is relatively fun

In Between:

Grawl Shaman – Can wipe various party compositions until ragequit, but if you can survive it goes quick enough

Yawn:

Jellyfish – No danger whatsoever, massive health pool, although cages speed things a bit… if your party sticks together
Svanir Champ – Easy, large health pool, safe spot, ‘YOUR WEAKNESS MAKES ME LAUGH’
Cultist – His health pool at the very beginning of the level is massive and a mind numbingly boring fight, as it’s not at least split up into phases like the last bit
Mossman – As you said above

Health pools down, difficulty up would generally be favorable on the last few, I think.

Has anyone suggested making Fractal Skins a possible drop in the physical Fractal Chests – not just the daily Maw? Higher chances the higher you get, of course.

That would help appease both of us that are frustrated with fractals due to the crappy skin drop rate, and those of us frustrated with the crappy loot in the physical chests.

Adding a new tier of relics that are exchangeable for fractal weapons also seems like a logical step, but that sounds like something the devs probably already have plans for.

Swamp fractal...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: TheAngryLuddite.1834

TheAngryLuddite.1834

Swamp is one of those fractals that’s really only a problem in the earlier levels, before new players have got it figured out. Swamp, or Water, are the fractals people always want to roll for, because they’re the quickest.

If the current wisp locations look too difficult for your group composition, pick up one and drop it to reset, until you find a composition that looks doable – different locations are easier for different classes.

Shinki’s suggestions for warriors above are all solid. Mesmers can set up portals for other players too, which is particularly useful for players that can’t jump over the tree walls.

With a little practice, this is the fractal you’ll sigh with relief upon seeing.

Mossman isn’t even all that bad in the 30’s. Make sure to zoom in on your map so you can track his icon when he’s stealthed, and have a better chance of evading him. If someone dies, just have someone kite him while someone else is rezzing the down so you don’t wipe. If you have Mossy’s aggro on you, don’t try to rez the down, however – that’s a good way to wipe.

Bloomhunger, well. Bloomhunger is easy peasy, but I haven’t had him in ages.

Yes. If nothing was changed recently. 2 weeks ago friend from my guild dropped Dusk from Fire ele chest.

Really?

I heard that only the Temple Events and Dragons had a chance at dropping precursors, not the low level world bosses.

I tryed more than 1000 rares in Forge and no precursor, I go www the other night and I am on inner walls when the rest of the zerg is at Lord room fighting for capture the bay.One asura elementalist coming up the stairs and we start 1v1 on the walls ,I kill him and try to loot the badges….the Zap…….from a player in www and yes i have a print screen……..so far www better chances for precursors lol….

Normally I’d be jealous, but you sir deserved that precursor.

I’m officially done excreting money in the mystic forge. Saved up and bought my Tooth of Frostfang in the end. I could have bought another precursor with the amount of money I’ve flushed down Zomorros. Very irritating.

Solid advice is generally not to bother.

I’ve done a ridiculous amount of exotics and rares. Exotics see your money disappear faster, but there’s nothing as depressing as putting in a hundred rare greatswords and not getting one exotic back even.

I don’t know a single person who even thought about buying an accessory with laurels. What an awful way to get them… Most people have their accessories from Guild missions at this point. At least anyone who has been consistent enough to have 40 laurels.

“Most People”?

I’m in a 400+ guild, and we’ve been doing bounties every week since they started. I have 8 commendations, which is the max you can have right now if you only have bounties unlocked. Accessories cost 12 commendations. To get more commendations, you need to unlock Treks and then Rushes, for a considerable amount of merits. That means successfully completing the Tier 3 bounties each week, and building everything extremely fast.

That seems like a feat that not many guilds could have achieved already.

Yeah, well, rumor is your beloved CoF farm is getting nerfed come the next patch, so enjoy that little bit of karma.

Weirdest ‘kitten’ censor I’ve seen so far.

I try not to.

“Ori,” (or-ee) seems to work just fine.
