I’ve been hoping for some new ascended gear, or at least the ability to infuse amulets, or salvage ascended rings, but…

I haven’t heard a whisper of it from the devs, so it’s just random speculation/hope.

Was also thinking they might add some new stuff to the gem store. It’s been a monthly occurrence with the big updates lately, but who knows, maybe they’ll skip it this month.

it seems like ascended earning are coming this update, from guild missions. look at the previews you can see new ascened items

Ohh, shiny. Clearly I wasn’t looking close enough.

I have my fingers crossed this is on the patch.

Back when I started fractals and had no idea what I was doing, I crafted a Precise Infusion and stuck it on an infused ring, not knowing that (a) infusions would disappear once infused in the Mystic Forge, and (b) how unnecessary and ludicrously expensive +5 stat infusions are compared to basic +5ar infusions bought with relics.

Logically, if you could salvage ascended equipment, it would work just like anything else – use a good kit, and you have a high chance of getting the upgrade off of it.

Which, considering how crazy expensive that infusion was to craft, would be nice…

Fingers crossed.

Throwing greens into forge for rares?

in Crafting

Posted by: TheAngryLuddite.1834

TheAngryLuddite.1834

It’s a coin toss, and one I stopped doing for a long while due to bad results. However, now that I run fractals a lot, each run I’ll end up with something like 30 greens. I would vendor them before, which would net a decent amount of silver, but I decided to start tossing them in the MF.

Usually, I’ll get at least one rare, which (if I get an ecto back from the salvage, of course) sees me breaking even, or if I’m lucky, making more. Sometimes you’ll get a few rares, sometimes none.

It’s certainly more entertaining than vendoring, but the results are unpredictable.

It seems the bottom line is this in most cases:

If you have attained a precursor, there’s no problem with them.

If you have not, there’s a problem with them.

For those of us that haven’t, nothing to do but wait and cross our fingers that today’s patch makes it a bit easier for us to grab one from a drop (as it seems has been hinted by the devs).

People in COF are very specific and touchy about their speed runs. Run it with your guild, or don’t run it all is the solution I’ve found (and I’m a warrior). Just not worth the grief, imo.

Now, as many others have said, everywhere else Guardians are probably the most valued class. Have you tried Fractals? Guardians are generally the top desired class, and a group with at least two is much easier than one, and far easier than with none.

What makes a dye uncommon/rare?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheAngryLuddite.1834

TheAngryLuddite.1834

Abyss is around 20g, because as many have said, it appears to be a deeper version of black.

In Guild Wars 1, White and Black were the classic spense dyes, with black running about 10plat on average (which is near the 10gold it hovers around here). Quite a few differences in the dye system, though. In the first game, there were far less colors, they weren’t split up into rarity tiers, you could dye weapons, and each dye drop only affected one item. If you wanted to dye another piece, you had to acquire it again. You could also mix dyes, if you wanted.

Relax people, I have over 5000 screenshots already, there’s a simple fix for when you reach the 1000 cap that obviously most of you are not aware of.

On Windows 7 there’s a folder in: C:\Users\<Account>\Documents\Guild Wars 2\Screens

Just rename the “Screens” folder (or move it to another location if you want) and when you make another screenshot in-game it will remake the folder so that you can make more screenshots.

This is exactly what I did.

Another 1000 screenshots, ahoy!

It’s sort of weird that SC has no people when it has the best loots of all areas.

I’ve tried grinding young karkas a few time on the northern shores, usually for a few hours, but the drops never turned out very lucrative for me.

Perhaps I was going about it the wrong way, but with guild missions taking place here next month, it seems there will be far more reason to revisit the area and farm the mobs.

Class Discrimination is getting to be a really big issue with Fractals – and I say this as a Warrior, where I really don’t have that issue.

That said, an Engi in our group managed to save us from a wipe on the Ascalonian Fractal boss my last run, when the boss was down to 10% health and all of our group died but the Engi. He kited the sucker for five minutes, until he could rez me so I could rez the rest of the group while he continued to kite, and we finished the boss.

No class is worthless in the Fractals, especially if there’s a good player behind them. That said, I think it is perceptively easier to run Fractals with a group composed primarily of heavies. This sucks for other classes, because they have to work twice as hard to not be a scapegoat if the run goes bad.

It would be good to see a change in player attitude or gameplay to address this, but as I’ve said in the other similar threads, I’m not entirely sure how that is to happen.

I agree that sounds pretty cool, but I sort of get the feeling they’ll be adding Ascended or Legendary armor eventually.

If the Ascended armor was infused twice, I could see it getting mist swirlies like the capacitor back piece. And if they did Legendary armor, then clearly that would have Legendary effects.

That said… both of those things would probably take much, much longer, and cost much, much more to obtain than a new RNG dye tier.

Have to agree with OP here – CS farming nets and EASY 5g/h.

However – i ALWAYS open bags rather than selling them, 1 powerful blood from a bag = 30s or 13 bags(if sold on TP)

Giants eyes drops from bags too that sell for 60s a piece so it really is a no brainer.

It’s really a gamble like anything else, though. I’ve been selling them as it’s good, consistent cash, but last night I decided to open 1g worth (about 40 bags), and it was all Tier 5. An unlucky break of RNG, sure, but I think I’ll stick to selling them after that – it’s just more reliable.

Now, I salvage whites, merch blues and greens, salvage rares if they are the price of an ecto, sell rares if they’re more.

Exotic… well, those don’t drop enough for me to have a set plan on.

Now that I get greens like crazy, though, I’m starting to wonder if I shouldn’t give them another shot in the mystic forge. One rare every five attempts should about break you even, so who knows, maybe it’s worth it if you can beat those odds.

Reflect is going to be your friend on this boss.

It’s a kitten of a fight, but some things I’ve learned:

- Immob or slow him the moment he bubbles. If he gets to the human, that’s a good amount of progress undone.
- When Grubs spawn, Reflect, Reflect, Reflect. Take them out as a group before you focus on shaman again.
- When he turns to you, that’s a sign it’s time to dodge the agony arrow

There’s probably other strats, but that’s all I can think of right now. It’s a pain of a fight, but doable with a good group. That said, I’ve had several groups wipe here, and wouldn’t complain if it was softened a little.

Man, I always forget how people get angry at the drop of a pin on forums.

My suggestion to just dive into the mobs was to reverse the stigma that the mobs are not worth killing, when – in my experience – they are worth the relatively short amount of time it takes to kill them.

However, I acknowledged that it’s worth asking the group first in the posts above. There is really no need to rage and be insulting.

If I was a dev, I know I’d be sick of the constant griping that occurs here. I think they actually do a pretty good job of addressing, realistically, what they can, while keeping the community abreast of what’s on the to-do list. In a way, I think that spoils us a little.

Compared to some developers and games, the ANet team is quite transparent and open-eared.

Post-Dungeon Scoreboard

Years back (lots of them) when I played World of Warcraft, I remember some dungeon groups had third-party DPS and Healing logs for the group which they could trigger in chat. As those were early dungeons, far below the level cap, it was a fun feature.

That said, unless it was a personal statistic where the individual saw only their own damage log, I could see this causing serious drama in groups.

But still… it would be pretty interesting to see what DPS you actually dished out during the run, and could help to fine-tune builds.

Promoting MF and GF

TheAngryLuddite.1834

Trust me, that guy that died 3x in the first room of the dungeon would die 3x in the first room of the dungeon if he wasn’t wearing MF gear. Sometimes it’s just the skill factor and the player himself.

That one extra stat on his gear would not have tipped the scales in his favor to make him a productive member of the team.

This is well on point, but most people would rather blame the gear. One does not out their gear as MF unless they want to become the party’s scapegoat in the case that something goes wrong.

Nevertheless, it would be nice if the devs would address MF in some way, solely because of the toxic environment that has arisen in the community around the stat.

If they decide to patch in more gear at some point, purchasable with pristine relics, we’ll all be quite happy, I think.

Chances are though there will just be a new tier of fractal relics dropping from 40+ dailies, if anything, so that players can’t immediately attain the new gear.

Why Skip the Pre-Boss Jade Maw Mobs?

Posted by: TheAngryLuddite.1834

TheAngryLuddite.1834

Or rather, why is there a stigma about skipping these mobs (the Irukandji and such, that are on the path to the boss)?

If you play fractals much, you know that “Monkey See, Monkey Do” is a big factor. In other words, if one group does something and it works well, it quickly becomes a standard in Fractals, as it spreads from player to player, kind of like a friendly virus.

What I don’t understand is how the ‘Kill or Skip’ dialog at the start of the Jade Maw came into existence. In almost every group, the vote is to Kill those mobs.

The only exception is when you have a really bad PUG that has taken a ridiculous amount of time, and everyone just wants to move on and never see each other again. In my experience, that is rare, as the group probably would have failed prior to the Maw.

In addition, killing these mobs takes maybe 5 extra minutes – which is nothing compared to the time spent in most of the other fractals.

It’s also where I tend to get some of my best drops. Most runs here I’ll get a few rares or some Mist Essence. In my last group two people got Onyx Lodestones.

The ONLY mobs worth skipping on this map are the Irukandji mobs that despawn once the first two tentacles die (as they don’t have drops).

So… why the stigma of ‘Kill or Skip,’ when skipping these mobs is like flushing potential gold down the toilet at a gain of maybe 3 minutes?

Thoughts?

Fotm and guard vs thief

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: TheAngryLuddite.1834

TheAngryLuddite.1834

The class discrimination in higher level fractals is definitely frustrating, and I can only imagine it will get worse as the devs patch in more Ascended items so people can move past 40, unless they modify the fractals somehow.

At the same time, a good thief or engineer or any of the ‘less desired’ classes CAN be a boon to the group. And yet…

I do find that groups primarily composed of warriors and guardians tend to go much smoother than groups of varied light classes. It’s nice to have maybe one wildcard light class in the midst of the heavies.

I imagine it’s a very frustrating stigma and situation for classes that aren’t Guardians or Warriors (or Mesmers, which can also be a nice addition), as those classes have to work a lot harder to avoid criticism from the other players.

The answer to that dilemma? Outside of a sea change in player attitude, or sweeping changes to Fractals or Classes, I’m really not sure.

With no dev response, I’d assume there are not, so I’m posting this in the suggestions forum now.

The idea is to add a second tier of infusion to the other ascended back pieces so they can also have the cosmetic particle effect skin IF people want to dump the extra money in.

So: Quivers would not automatically get the particle skin upon being infused with 250 ectos the first time. It would require a second infusion with 250 ectos, like the capacitors, to get the particle skin.

TheAngryLuddite.1834

Bumping this thread, as this is a FractaI my groups have had repeated problems with in the l. 20-29 range, and I think there’s a few good pieces of advice for struggling groups buried in here:

1) If you have a ranger in your group, have them use Entangle on the boss once he bubbles for a 20 second immob, while you deal with grubs
2) Bring some of these: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_Seed_Pod

There’s also some obvious stuff like always keep moving, have a Guard and have them use reflect, as well as dodge the Flaming Arrow of Death. I personally have trouble with that one for multiple reasons (lots going on, on-screen, not much of a visible tell, and you don’t want to dodge into a lava pool on accident).

While I do think this Fractal is unfortunate at higher difficulty levels (as the majority seems to agree), for now as far as we know the difficulty of the boss isn’t going anywhere, so we might as well compile some tricks for struggling players…

If you have anything helpful to add other than the general obvious stuff that players already know from playing the fractal a bunch of times in order to get to the 20+ range (DPS bubble, kill grubs, etc.), please add your insight.

I didn’t know about invisible bags or safe deposit boxes until recently, but you can keep your mini from being deposited by getting one of these, and sticking the mini in it.

It’s basically the same as any other bag, except whatever you put in here won’t be deposited when you click ‘Deposit All Collectables’ and won’t show up as sellable to NPCs.

There’s a different type for each armor crafting profession, but you can buy the one around 12 slots or less for very cheap.

It’s not as expensive for a precise infusion (because claws are something like 15s less), but it’s the same concept.

+5 precision is very unlikely to boost your crit chance by another percent.

And yet, I spent the money to get one. And put it on the first ring I had drop. Which I’m not using anymore (because I got better ascended rings). And I know now the precise infusion would be lost anyway if I infused the ring itself.

tl;dr: In most cases, it’s probably a better idea to spend fractal relics on plain agony resistance infusions, instead of spending a ludicrous amount of money for a mostly negligible stat increase on top of your agony resistance.
