how do i feel about thief
its still fun to play, daredevil is epic and insanely easy to escape fights in WvW with. and still my #1 for burst dmg

and yet they also my favorite thing to kill when i’m playing engineer. because engineer = no stealth for thief

so i’d say its fine

Getting hit while in stealth?

in Thief

Posted by: arenta.2953

arenta.2953

Could someone explain stealth mechanics to me, since i keep on getting hit while in stealth?

Countless times i have died or my gap is closed by taking a hit even though i’m stealthed.

If i need to get away, i use blinding powder and try to shadowstep away with short bow.

But i still keep getting hit or someone uses gapcloser skill and it hits me regardless of my stealth, or that blindess.

Is it broken, or is there a counter to see stealthed players?

trips invisible person as they sneak past me
invisible doesn’t mean intangible.

channel attacks (like range long bow, or warrior rifle that fire a series of shots) track you until their skill is done.

while most is just random spam and guessing where you are.
spams flamethrower all over

plus engineer has several abilities to remove stealth from an area, and if it hits an invisible enemy, provided they took the trait, they can “lock on”. hence flamethrower being so fun

when we see you stealth, we guess where you’d run to. and spam skills. if the skills show dmg(in the dmg chat panel, not floating on the screen) or progress to the next “combo skill”(melee main attacks) then we know we’ve hit something and continue to follow hoping to hit it more.

so my advice, when you stealth. go the opposite direction you plan to flee. as the enemy expect you to flee. and be prepared to chain stealths to get distance.

also evading while in stealth helps to throw off the chain abilities of rifle and longbow.

you know. for all the complaining people do on engineer, i still find my engineer able to take on up to 3 enemies on my own, and win. maybe its just me being a bit obsessed with knocking people off cliffs, or not minding dragging a fight out over a long period of time (people obsess with burst dmg, while i’m find killing slowly if it means my survival)

i mean yeah it will struggle vs some classes(get the hell away from me rev. stop it. no. bad!)
but its the devil incarnate to others(thief sees me rolling, they hating, they runnin the other way~ w8..NO come back thief. i only want to kill you!…..he jumped off cliff….i’m taking credit for that)

healing prof?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: arenta.2953

arenta.2953

does it work more like in star wars the old republic where healers are basically a dps who can heal secondarily?

you can spec it out like that yes

ele can switch from damage fire and lighting, to condition earth, to healign water.

druid has the range damage and mobility, and can go into druid form for heals.

engineer can switch to healing kits

or my personal favorite, necro can trait to vamperic traits. with vamperic aura. so allies heal when they attack.
and you can pull their conditions to yourself to save them some trouble, and then consume the conditions to heal yourself.

or trait out so your shroud skill 4 heals allies around you (and teleports downed allies to you)

or theres the stealth medic thief.
it removes conditions from allies and heals them, when you stealth them (either with shadow refuge or blast stealths)
as well as stealthing them when you begin reviving a downed ally.

I really wish we could customize the look of our turrets and kits.
Even if it is just the simple beginning racial gear, krytan, glyphic, verdant, steam, etc.

i’d agree here

seeing cosmetics so turrets and gyros and even kits could have racial options.

imagine a sylvari with plant turrets and gyros. or a sylvari with asuran turrets xD

gives character. and i love the idea.

plus, the thought of asuran gyros is nice =D
and turrets. zap zap zap.

or maybe a sleeker flamethrower (the one now is kinda bulky on my asura. looks good on my charr though!)

grenade kits that have a asura tech feel, sylvari plant theme, or norn that have detailed designs on the grenades.

so i approve ^^

also cosmetics for necros! minions >=D skeleton minions, swamp monster minions, phantasm minions.

for rangers….how about clothing stuff for pets.
imagine a bear wearing a shirt that advertises a brewery!
or a wolf with a hat

on a slightly off topic. how about an animation customization.
for example. my engineer can AIM her rifle instead of shooting from the hip.
and could carry the rifle over her shoulder when running (but like greatsword………don’t judge her! she’s carrying a giant kitten sniper!)

ranger longbow firing horizontally instead of vertically (female from gw1 style)
http://i.imgur.com/zZulNbL.jpg

lot of untapped potential here for customizing your character.

What's the worry with buffing greatsword?

(how about the GS trait gives all GS skills a 5% chance to make attack instant, avoiding the cast time)

Because an instant, 12k single hit sounds fair…

No. Just no.

fair enough
i actually ment for just the 1 skill cycles. a 5% chance for the cast times to be instant(like with quickness).

i didn’t mean it for skills 2-5
just 1 skill. as the entire cycle takes 3 secounds. and is easy to dodge. so it would be nice to have a 5% chance for your enemy to be surprised when the sword moves faster than expected for an attack.

honestly i think GS’s dmg is fine. but the 1 skills need to NOT be so interruptable.

the 3rd attack in the cycle fine. but the first 2 shouldn’t be interuptable. because it makes the ENTIRE weapon USELESS vs someone with interrupts (like thief with pistol)

and the #5 skill for GS, is supposed to pull enemies to you. Still had horrible pathing where more often than not all it does is make enemies stumble in place. and not pull to you at all.

dmg is fine, but let us USE the freaking thing instead of being shut down cause every single attack is interruptable and since they slow attacks its easy to interrupt or dodge…..(how about the GS trait gives all GS skills a 5% chance to make attack instant, avoiding the cast time)

Does anyone else have any thoughts about this?

My opinion will always be that active play is better than passive play. Camping stealth is a fairly passive way to play what should be a proactive class…so I support your rendition over the current one.

Edit: Also looking over your ideas at the start of the thread, I think Blinding Powder needs to be a stunbreak in addition to having reduced cooldown.

you know the fractal where you fight the aetherblade captain?

those LONG segments where you are surviving and can’t attack.

and when the less agile members of your team can’t evade and go down.

don’t you wish you could stealth you and them for a long duration so u can res them before they die out. so when the non- attack period ends you can have your full party ready to go.

oh right. passive stealth. you don’t like that. i guess you prefer they die. cause passive stealth. so without that passive stealth heal, you’d die while ressing cause u have no heal.

well how about when raiding in WvW and in the middle of the fight your friend goes down. don’t you wish you could stealth both of u and res them instead of leaving him to die as the zerg goes past.

or, PvP. when that ranger is shooting arrows at you and a team mate. your VERY low hp. and your teammate is down.

rather than suicide rush, it would be nice to stealth the 2 of you, res him while recovering a bit of hp. and knowing if the ranger wants to finish the 2 of you off, he needs to come to you (there are ways he can end the stealth. but thats if he takes that skill)

it has places its useful. ALOT more than you think.

BONUS ROUND:
a WvW group is chasing you. your target is their ele as everything else is to tanky.

but your low hp.

but, it would be NICE to stealth, heal a bit, and w8 for them to pass you by, or disperse in the area, so you can hunt your target.

those random AoE attacks murder without the stealth heal over time.

mindless aggression is suicide.

…more options to Character Customization added?

Yes I know its’s another thread on this, but we never get any aswer.

With GW1’s expansions there were a lot added in this sector for every expansion. Here, nothing.

I really would like to get some new horns for my charr and the ability to choose among some colors on my horns. Some new fur patterns would also be really nice. Also a ton of more colors could be added to hair acsessories as it is hard to create a good match with the tiny pool of colors there is today.

This would be especially nice since Charr often are neglected when it comes to armors with clipping and stretching issues (like ALL the new medium armours added in HoT) and the lack of ability to get gender specific armor.

I guess other races would apriciate this too. Asuras share many problems with charr. Asuras would probably like more ear options and body patterns, maybe ears with piercings and jewelery.
Sylvari would probably want more glow colors or pulsating pattenrs in witch the glow.
Norn’s would probably want more beard and tattoo options.
And Humans would probably be happy for some more beard optiosn too, maybe faces with piercings, and tattoos on the body, maybe with a different style compared to norn.

What customizations options would YOU like to have for YOUR race??

i’d like some medium armors for Female Asura that AREN’T TRENCHCOATS.

i’m not asking for underboob human or skimpy crap.

i’m asking for something that either DOESNT have a trenchcoat.

or, if it DOES have a trenchcoat. make it so its back is unique. not a flat fat piece of cloth.

and in other news, can i have a tail for my asura (could be a back piece)
cause i’m a furry ^^

Great suggestions. I too feel that debilitating arc needs a stun. I still think something more ( dark field) would be warranted for number 4.

A dark field could be pretty cool. It doesn’t seem like that would be too strong either.

I believe that this spell’s knockdown should not have a “leap” animation towards the attacker, first because of the almost uncontrollable animation locks, and second because a sudden change of direction can be disruptive in the middle of the battle.

I believe that a point blank AoE knockdown could work well with the spell. Once you block an attack at melee range, you stop for a 1/2 second in order to place a swift spin kick across the floor, knocking down everyone at range.

By doing the point blank AoE, we would shorten the animation time, prevent any sudden change in movement from the thief, as well as forcing other players/ennemis to not gang-up at melee range on the thief.

Yeah that would probably be better than what it does currently, but I think having a roll over skill for the knockdown portion would be even better since you have more control over it.

Expose could be a lot like the Stealth Detection mastery~ the enemies are still in stealth but you see a red silhouette of them.

I actually haven’t unlocked that one yet, but that could maybe work. Are you able to target the stealthed NPCs with the Stealth Detection mastery or can you only see their silhouette?

leave my shadow’s embrace and Shadow’s Rejuvenation alone <.<

you might be ok entering and exiting stealth non stop. but i prefer to pick when i come out stealth. staying stealthed until i’m healed. (if i wanted to heal from stealth attack, i’d use the 15% crit heals from invigorating precision. if i stay in stealth, its cause i want to stay there longer to heal. not be forced to attack to heal. ditto for conditions)

i like thief for its long stealth.
otherwise i’d use mesmer.

Staying in stealth healing up means you aren’t contributing to fights. Your enemy can heal up while you’re stealthed too, and they can also freely attempt to damage you while you’re stealthed (you can’t damage them back unless you want to get revealed and stop healing). You should be able to participate in fights more easily with this change because you won’t have to camp in stealth for long durations to benefit from it anymore. The suggested change to Shadow’s Rejuvenation has the potential to heal you for more than it does currently if you play more aggressive. None of these suggestions take away any stealth potential for thieves, and you would still have -25% damage taken for yourself and allies that you stealth from Resilience of Shadows.

but i like to stealth for long periods of time to heal due to stuff like knockdowns, or cripples, or int regen(which i get 1 per 3 secoudns in stealth)

yes enemy can heal, thats the risk i take. but the appeal to stealth is the enemy doesn’t know what u going to do. or what your condition is. the longer they don’t see you, the more possibilities to what your doing. and the mroe confused they are

i like long stealth so i can heal allies who are downed, the regen lets me survive a few AoEs that are aimed at people around me. and the int regen lets me coem out refreshed.

if you make heals be based on coming in and out of stealth, then whats the point of stealth at all. your incentivizing not being stealthed. you might as well replace stealth with the extra heal and a short teleport. your basically using the venom if u want that

i like theif for the long stealth, the comfort i get in knowing the enemy doesn’t know where i am, what conditions i have on me, what my hp is at, and what my int is at.

for example, i stealth(shadow refuge), and get hit by their big hit.

they DOWN me. but they don’t see that. i can recover, and thanks to the stealth regen, its a little bit faster res. so i can get up, and get soem distance before they spot me. (provided they don’t notice their auto attack is cycling. aka hittign something…..)

or lets say i’m LOW on hp. but an ally is downed and about to die. i can res them, stealth, with a regen every secound, while ressing them, plus bonus res hp due ot trait. plus bonus healing due to the regen i apply for stealthing them.

long stealth has appeal. short stealth doesnt. if you take away the regen while stealthed and replace it with “start and end stealth” your not using stealth, you using a venom.
you might as well play a mesmer. their clones are FAR MROE EFFECTIVE than short stealth.

theif’s appeal is stealth to give it options like running away, resetting the fight(if you get a shadow refuge down and the enemy doesn’t auto attack the area u in…which most do), or sneaking past.

so leave my stealth alone. if u want to incentivize NOTt stayign stealthed until your ready to engage on your own terms. then go play mesmer or hell, go play a longbow ranger.

theres more to a fight than bashign someone. you sound liek a warrior when u focus just on aggressive moves. strategy is more important. like knowing when to fight, and when to run, when to hit and run. and when to NOT ATTACK WHEN U OUTMATCHED.

i’m not a mindless aggressor liek warrior
i’m not a tiny teleporting side to side mesmer

i’m a thief, picking when i fight. when i’m ready. on my terms. If i choose to not attack, thats my choice. thats why i like to heal without ruining the main appeal of theif.

so leave my stealth regen alone.

Lack of official merchandise- Ideas?

I just looked at the Shop and there are slim pickings when it comes to merch. Aside from an awesome-looking Charr plush, we just have a few novels, an art book and a strategy guide.

I was hoping to at least find logo keyrings, pins/badges, t-shirts and hoodies.

Things could get even more exciting by taking items obtainable in-game and making them real-life. Quaggan/Charr back-packs, fuzzy quaggan hats…

To me it seems crazy that A-net aren’t monitising in this way already. Perhaps it’s not profitable enough? I seem to remember that there were a few resin figurines available a little while ago and that some YouTubers got some fancy hourglass ornaments.

So, what would you like to see in the Shop, if anything, and why?

idk how they would do this. but i’d buy SO MUCH if they did

an option to buy a figurine of your in game character.

i’d by that for 5 of my characters xD

I really really really don’t understand where this “small guilds can not have Guild Halls/Favor” talk is comming from. I see a lot of topics on it and people are saying the biggest nonsense I’ve ever seen here on the forums.

My guild has 2 people. Me and my wife.
We have our guild hall. We have almost 2000 favor. And we even have upgrades in our guild hall. The coolest thing that I am very proud of is the fact that until now we did not even spend gold on the upgrades, (and believe when I say we have more then enough gold/materials) what means that with patience and farming you can have this upgrades for almost free until a certain point.

Before HOT we could not even start a mission. We could not even obtain merits!

I don’t know about all this people saying otherwise but they just talk nonsense. The one thing HOT really did for us is making guilds very small guild friendly. Please friends do some more effort when you want to achieve something. Don’t come here on the forums asking for everything to be thrown at you.

NERF THIEVES PLEASE!!!

in Thief

Posted by: arenta.2953

arenta.2953

This is the most obvious reason that shows thieves are extremely OP. If you read the forums you will see a bunch of thief buff suggestions and complaints about how underpowered thieves are. These threads are completely ignored by the developer, if thieves were not op why would they ignore the threads?

because devs ignore 99.9% of threads for all classes

rangers demanded buffs since launch.
as did necros
and engineers

none of them got a buff until 3 years later…..well except engineer, but they still didn’t get the weapon switching they demanded.

if Anet listened to all threads, they would have given engineers the option to AIM their rifle and not shotgun it

plus they would have given rangers this pet buff ages ago. (or made pet removable)

but. devs don’t balance classes based on what people cry about on forums.

they balance classes based on average performance in game. which have theives as balanced (every nerf has a buff)

Lets talk half breeds...

in Lore

asura experiments with mutations by combining 2 species DNA

where normal breeding wont work. science will make it work >=D

We still have trouble with tiger+lion because the pack instinct of the lion is conflicting with the solitary hunter instinct of the tiger, giving liger mental troubles…
And it’s a natural occuring interspecing with close species…

Unless you want a franken psychotic monster unable to live without artificial engines, it’s a dead end.

Also, experimenting things like that on intelligent creatures is forbidden by Rata Sum laws. No help, no recognition, no fundings.

who said i live in rata sum?
i’m INQUEST. and yes, i have funding. (not all inquest are bad. its not like i hurt my subjects. i let them volunteer and even pay them.)

also lion + tiger? finished that weeks ago. turns out you needed a bit of wolf DNA to finish the mix.

human science is pathetic compared to my brilliance.

Yes the stats on Rune of the Traveler are a bit underwelming. But the 25% run speed is a huge quality of life that a lot of people prefer. That’s why Traveler sell for 2+ gold, while divinity sell for 29 silver. Traveler isn’t a good combat rune, but the quality of life is good enough for a lot of people. Mostly for people playing open world or WvW roaming. That’s 100% an opinion issue. Do you prefer to have the 25%, allowing you to swap a signet for something more useful or you prefer to have the best stats for combat. Nobody can answer that for you.

Stealth isn’t a boon so no the 15% doesn’t affect it.

ty =)

Rune Question

in Players Helping Players

Hi Arenta – the answer to your question is that each +bonus adds to the next, so with 5 items having the same runes on them you would get a total bonus of +60 to all stats etc.

Rune sets like these work best with Celestial type builds, which also have adds to all stats – but it is very much a ‘generalist’ build and you miss out on some of the more ‘interesting’ and fun possibilities going with more focused builds.

What’s not to love about a parrot that inflicts Blind, or an extra necro type minion that proc’s 50% of the time and acts as a nice distraction to draw agro – or inflict that little bit of extra damage if ignored?

ah thanks.
though that does make rune of the traveler look a bit……underwelming..

6 runes for +25% speed and +36 to all stats when i could get +102 power and precision…..or +78 with run of divinity.

do you think it would be worth it to get +25% speed (i’m asking for theif. would using rune of the traveler to open up a slot so i dont need the speed signet be worth it? or would it be best to go for stats and keep the signet?)

does the +15% boon duration affect stealth?

would this be + 16 to all stats total?

or + 16 x6 runes for 96 to all stats total?

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_the_Revenant

run of the revenant gives
(1): +8 to All Stats
(2): +10 to All Stats
(3): +12 to All Stats
(4): +14 to All Stats
(5): +16 to All Stats
(6): Gain 2 seconds of resistance when you use a heal skill (Cooldown: 10 seconds)

does this mean at 5 runes, you get +16 to all stats total?

or +16 PER armor piece with run (which would be a total of +80 to all stats)

or would it be +8+10+12+14+16 = 60

^female outfit? only outfit that shows off asuran chest.

Actually a few heavy armors show the female Asura chest, too.

fair enough. makes ya wonder why they wear the bathing suit when they wear nothing.
and yet Anet is fine showing off the chest

are they allowed to show the chest or are they not xD wish they’d decide. cause if they aren’t allowed. i’d like a version of the lich outfit that is…unique from the male one.
