its a great expansion and i love the elite proffessions
but i will admit the mastery grind can be a little of a turn off when u going for the story and your extremely curios what happens next.
as for how u get elite profession. i’m honestly ok with how costly it is. its ELITE.
but i play necro and rev…….so i will admit people on theif might find it annoying not to have their new dodges.
will drop to 4/10 if either of these 2 requirements aren’t met

rev is REALLY squishy.
its offense capability is great.
but its weaknesses are rather weak heals with long cooldowns.
stun breaks that cost ALOT to use and are very few (you lose like 30-50 charge per use. and they are limited to ~1 per legend. so 10 sec cooldown between that)and their condition removers are also limited. far as i know u have 2 condition removal skills. once again on different legends.
so in short. a rev has 2 legends for stun breaks. 2 for condition removal.

Rev squishy? Only if you build squishy. You have so many options for hp recovery it’s not even funny. And yes, our heals are a little weaker, but that’s because we get two of them. As for stun breaks, we have the stun breaks inherent in our legends, but we also break stuns when switching. I don’t think any other class has this many stun breaks. Not to mention the amount of stability we get to reduce the need to even use them. The only real weakness I see with revenant is conditions.
Berserker/Marauder Rev is basically a tank when compared to my thief.
yes and no, you can surely have stun breaks and condiclense or resistence but you have to dedicate an entire legend to that, which limits freedom compared to other classes.
Mind you i’m ok with that, and i’m ok with what comes with that, just saying.
Thief is a particular beast since you can almost 3 shot him but the amount of stealth he can pull off is tremendous, effectively resetting the fight at will if he has half brain. What matters in the end is to be not get downed, right? :P
yeah. once u downed…u basically dead.
the number of classes who have downed skills that are capable of survival are few (unless something dies)
off the top of my head…. elementalist and its “mist run for the hills” has good survival aspect
Ranger(SPECIALLY with the 95% less dmg to non targeted minion buff) with its pet revival. LOVE that. best “oh i’m downed. well i’m gettign back up!” ever
mesmer(i hate those clones. you hate those clones. call a nuke cause theres 3 more clones)
those 3 are great for downed.
then thief and necro are good “downed survivors” where theif can teleport and stealth. usually not enough to get up on your own vs a mob. but it gives u some survivability.
and necro just keeps spamming #1 to keep its hp at about the same spot xD
for engi, and the 3 heavy armors. once u downed…u downed.
warrior can suicide though xD
so rev isn’t OP (that title remains with theif. and POSSIBLY warrior…….though warrior is situational). its got its strengths.

What happened to this philosophy? Literally everything in HoT is gated behind a grind.
-Want to start your story? Grind mobs/events for gliders!
-Want to get that hero point up there? Grind some more for a mushroom mastery!
-Want that other hero point? LOL got ya! Grind some more glider mastery for updraft.
-Finally made it up there? It’s a champion on a timer! Better hope someone else nearby has grinded as much as you!This is annoying to begin with, but it gets even worse. Not only do you have to grind these masteries, but it’s not even a reasonable amount of grinding. The XP requirements are astronomical.
I’ve spent 90% of this expansion painfully grinding rather than enjoying the scenery and exploring.
I know some people are defending this system and saying the entire expansion should be challenging, but you are forgetting that casuals are what mainly makes our community.
While I’ll begrudgingly continue grinding, people like my wife will not. She is the perfect example of casual. She gets on, plays around, explores a little bit, and logs off after 2 or 3 hours. She watched me play HoT and quickly decided that it’s not for her. When I asked her what the biggest turn off was, she stated “that looks like way to much work just to explore and enjoy the scenery.”
Take this for what you will, but I just want to know when the old philosophy of “We don’t make grindy games” flew out the window.

in a video game. you shoot the enemy, move to the next area. shoot those. move on. repeat
its how you VIEW it that determines if its grindy.
GW2 isn’t grindy to me because it ATTEMPTS to add fresh dialogue, or new stuff to do in between the grinding.
it can’t remove the repetitive grinding. NOTHING can do that.
but it can attempt to hide the grinding by addign stuff to distract you like a wonderful story, or a surprise, or entertaining side job.
and in that regard. GW2 does a great job. Instead of “going here. kill move on. kill move on.”
GW2 has me going "rescue the hostages. escort them. kill mob. move. kill mob move. ok done? now go hunt down the traitors who are trying to kill some hostages. or go help clear the area for a sensor.
at its base. its grinding the same way either option i pick.
but GW2 has disguised it so that if i am immersed in the game(which u seem to not be) then i don’t notice they are same. cause i’m imagining saving hostages or clearing the field of insects.

if they removed all the grinding from the game. there WOULDNT be a game. it would just be a movie.

Kaineng was… Yeah. It was a giant cluster kitten of a design. The first couple of zones were also loudly complained about. They weren’t fun to navigate and everything looked the same. Canthan starter island and the Luxon/Kurzick territories were beautiful, but man, that city scene was awful.

but the city worked well with the plague theme. first time i went into the central area only to find them comign from all directions. that made me fall in love with it. city worked then =)

I’ll make it short: I dont like soul reaping line. Im not saying its bad- it has plenty of useful traits but i’d take it only for longer shroud duration. Not good reason enough.
Gluttony- 10% lf gain… on most skills that isnt even visible
Unyielding blast- not required when we take spite tree and well of suffering
Soul marks/speed of shadows- just no
Last gasp- useful but activation of shroud cancels it.
Spectral mastery- okay, that one was really useful with previous one, but still they were inferior to Foot in the grave
Fear of death- <sigh>
Vital persistence- One trait to rule them all… one that according to ppl should be made baseline. Still, reaper’s onslaught imo outshines the secondary bonus of this trait.
Strength of undeath- One trait to find them… Combined with vital persistence made shroud last for ages
Foot in the Grave- One trait to bring them all… I remember the hype when this trait was changed into a stunbreak but in reaper line we have 8s pulsing stability so… why?
Death Perception- And in the darkness bind them… hard choice between this and the one above, great trait but again, reaper provides 2% crit chance per vulnerability stack…
Dhuumfire- was good when it triggered on crit, not just on shroud #1Instead of this tree i would take death magic, mostly for condi clearing, but also:
Icreased lf gain from deaths by 20% (when we go for shroud-gravedigger combo on enemies with 50%hp it is OP)
Protection on leaving shroud (also great when we want to gravedig some1)
Corrupter’s fervor & Deadly strength & armored shroud – aside from +480 toughness and condi damage reduction it gives us +210 power in shroud. I like to sustain some damage. I like to have a good condi clean. And i like 2400 armor + 19k hp when running zerker gear.My build would be similar to this:

its a reusable stun break that you can use alot more than any other stun break.
so for knock back, or daze, or stun spammers (in PvE, and the sheer number of them in PvP and WvW) its epic. add to it that 8 sec stab for reaper. it means when i get up. i’m not dropping

This incremental move toward roles, clearly demonstrated in the current and previous beta events, is tiresome.
its not that they trying to get rid of the trinity.
its that they trying to make it so the trinity is…blurredaka instead of being just a tank. or just a healer. or just a dps
you instead are a bit of a healer and a bit of tank(ex. guardian tank builds). or a bit of a healer and a bit of dps(ex thief stealth builds).
or a bit of a tank and a bit of dps(ex. necro power build).
making it so you can perform multiple roles
ex. necro tank/dps = power build. necro heal/tank = bunker build. necro heal/dps = vamperic crit build.ex2. theif tank/dps build = condition removal/crit build. thief heal/tank = stealth spam build with condition removal. thief heal/dps build = heals on crit dmg.
this means while you can try to focus on 1 side of the trinity, its harder than in othergames, as Anet wants you to be able to perform multiple roles. and not focus on 1.
as if everyone just focuses on 1 trinity role, then we only need 3 classes….. hence making it so u need to perform multiple roles to open up the way for multiple classes
Valid points certainly, but I feel like content could be designed in a way that would require things such as boon stripping, stealth, conditions, zerk dps and a variety of builds to succeed so that we don’t end up with the current system of stacking might and vulnerability and smashing the 1 key in a corner. Which I suspect is where anet is going with the new raids ( we can all hope anyway). It’s not even that we need a trinity, we just need content that forces us to think outside of the dps box.

its amusing to be in a dungeon and solo the boss cause berserkers died in 1 hit. while i just go “that didn’t hurt >=D”
i’m currently experimenting mixing some knight gear in with the soldier to give me a bit of critical. but as it is i’m out damaging berserkers by a MASSIVE margin due to my durability, power, and vamperic dmg.

charr guns have the most punch to their shot (as bulky charr can handle bigger recoil)
human guns are slowest firing due to the nature of flintlock. but to compensate they train more with accuracy (though if they are, is up for debate. charr’s bulk making the gun stable might help more)
asura have magic guns. they different =/ (instead of punching through armor, they pretty much melt the armor, or dissinigrate it. basically more chemical and less brute force)

As I run a build that clears condi’s, even that can’t stand a Reaper’s shroud skills, my characters just are no match to the pure damage a reaper is doing and I find the reaper being just a little bit too much over powered.
the conditions are minor dmg. or no dmg at all(fear and chilled. though chilled does minor dmg)
reaper’s dmg is also low and short range. until you go shroud and use that 50% crit chance while in shroud(which ISN’T a reaper trait. its a necro trait)

The knock down seems to be a terrain pathing issue that has plagued similar skills like Engi’s magnet pull. I’ve noticed it especially when I am on a slope higher than the target. For the most part however, it is working as a pull.

Shouts “you are all weaklings” and “suffer” are both instant favorites of mine.

GS skill 5 is still bugged where it doesn’t always pull enemys to you. most of the time i see it knock them down where they stand, but not pull (like daredevil’s knockdown 0 range….)
GS skills 1 seem to be doing enough dmg to convince me to use it. but the chill still seems so short compared to the long cast times of the skill 1. and its still insanely easy for theifs with pistols to continually interrupt you just by reaper using auto attack.
-really need to make it so they can’t interrupt your auto attack so easily.

Necromancer cannot tank well because real tanks require continuous healing while holding aggro. Guardian or Warrior, maybe Ranger, too, can tank.
Necromancer would miss too much healing from being in Death Shroud.
Mesmer’s clones could be wiped leaving it vulnerable so it may be too squishy and Elementalist may be overwhelmed. Of the three Light armor professions, Necromancer is the tankiest but will only be able to soak medium sustained or brief burst damage.
A true tank will need bunker armor, protection, evades, blocks, and sustained major heals.
Necromancer can help at the front line with high weakness up time, Transfusion, blinds, Vampiric skills, chill, and so on but will probably not be able to survive constant focus fire.
actually, with vampiric skills a necro is more self sufficient as a tank than any other class due to death shroud. (keep in mind its tied with Warrior for the highest base hp. its got multiple tiny hp heals on hits. and can be set up to have even more heals on top of that. and with a soldier build can have a frightening amount of defense.
i’m currently at 3.5k defense, 32k hp, 26k shroud, with my focus on power, i have vamperic, vamperic strikes, wells heal me, as well as minions, and using dagger to speed up the hits. also off hand dagger to send conditions to enemy, and necro’s shroud 4 skill is great for healing. also signet of the locust can provide a 12k heal if you have enemy enemies around you)
its weakness compared to other tanks is it requires enemies to hit in order to sustain its hp/death shroud combo.
if it has nothing to hit, it will die out with no healing.
if theres multiple things to hit at once, a necro is the strongest most durable tank in game. the more things to hit, the stronger it is.
if you don’t believe me thats your business. but my necro is set to recover alot of hp while in deathshroud, and recover alot of life force while outside of deathshroud. so its a constant combo.
…..and it bugged out in arah once where my party was trying to wipe to reset it. but my necro kept goign between hp and shroud and long story short took 3 minutes to die(finally dying because i sabotaged its own combo)

Please bring back the bunny ears or tell us that you are not going to, so we can get over it. This limbo is killing me. Yeah bunny ears seem silly to many, but to some of us its the most desirable item in the game (its just too cute on Asura).

Given that;
- There are 2 beta weekends left, meaning there will have been less overall player-test time for the Druid.
- Ranger has always been the most broken profession in the game, particularly with regard to its profession mechanic, the pet. (If you disagree I dare you to argue that on the Ranger forums…)
- If Anet are delaying the reveal and/or testing availability for the Druid because it’s not “ready”, this is worrying considering a 2015 release for HoT, and spells all too familiar territory for the Ranger profession.
- There are 3 years’ worth of decent profession feedback on the Ranger forums, most of which has not come to fruition. Now’s a big chance for Anet to show they’ve listened.
It’s currently being acknowledged within the Ranger community (perhaps not by all, but certainly by a noticeable number) that this could be the make-or-break for the Ranger. For me, I think even if Druid is underwhelming I’ll still play it just because it’s always been my favourite archetype in MMOs.

and sholder to hip doesn’t affect cast time. cast time is seperate. its called animation loop speed.
shoulder an hip fire can use the same loop speed (as a result stuff like quickness and frost can affect the loop speed)
the change to mortar cast speed wasn’t the animation change. it was the loop speed change.
i guess you don’t know how animation works…
One other reason you cannot have varying “optional” effects for different skills, is because the cast animations of skills are a necessity for skilled players to dodge the right skills. If you go adding optional effects for skills just to suit one poster, you harm the game as a whole.

all these use different animations for race? how is changing it from hip to shoulder gonna hurt it?

looking at the number of people who wanted a sniper class (as thief elite profession). i’d say we have alot more people than you think.If you actually believe a single weapon skill animation will bring players over from plating warrior and thief, then I feel your not realistically aware of what they are asking for.
I will take my dev time devoted to functionality and game play, any day of the week, over having it wasted on adding a single “optional” animation change.
you’d be surprised what a simple animation change can do.
and dev time? your assuming this would take a while to impliment.
but heres the thing. its ALREADY IN GAME.
its on the discarded rifle
its on the warrior rifle
its on the engineer mortar (oh yeah, didn’t you notice they changed that from a hip shot to a shoulder aimed?)
this isn’t something that would take much work. its actually very short time wise.
hell they spent the time to change the mortar animation to it. so your assumption devs dont spend time on this is wrong.
specially when you consider theres different dev teams for specific stuff
story dev team, balance dev team, etc. this request is going to a small subclass of dev team.

If you want to play a sniper, play Killshot Warrior.. what’s the difference?
difference is engineer’s theme with turrets, grenades, bombs, and mortars. added to the RIFLE
while warrior’s theme is mostly static banners, signets, and a few melee fighting moves. the rifle stands out and overall the theme is bland compared to the utility and adaptability of the engineer
the playstyles and themes differ, as do the appearences and stats of the armor.
warrior isn’t a sniper, its essentially a melee soldier with a rifle.

the only 2 left are the Forge and Druidwe all know their weapons, and their names.

but demand wise, there is a steady amount as Engineers have been suffering due to the massive ammount of reflects, invulnerabilities, and blocks that prevent alot of engineers skills (engineers lack the mobility and melee to counter mesmers….unless u got a flamethrower in which case BURN MESMER BURN)
so engineer hammer and moving drones would actually kitten off the community if Anet changed it to something else (as its something engineers could really use)
so yeah, final stretch.
give my Engineer rifle 1 skill an optional animation change plz <.< (optional change. like a gem store one so i can aim my rifle. not shotgun my sniper)

I love the animation, changing it is a terrible idea.
i said optional change.
its better than me going into game files to manually change it.
Animation is fine as is. And please, be all means, change the game files and post a video link here of your results. I think you’re bluffing. ; P

You just need to accept that Anet doesn’t give a kitten about Forge and Druid, we will be lucky if they are actually available at hot launch let alone in a viable state.
