Shortbow is a AoE weapon with mobility
Pistol Pistol is a mid range mobile ranged weapon. in addition to its combination possibilities with sword and dagger, its mostly focused on moving and shooting
rifle would be long range, but stationary (aka, like warrior’s GS’s 100 blade strike and ranger’s LB’s barrage skill. rifle theif would need to stay still when using skills)
and unlike pistol and shortbow whose dmg is the same at all range.
rifle would do less dmg the closer to target it is.

so pistol/pistol is like ranger shortbow
shortbow thief is….well like something range doesn’t have (Aka a AoE ranged……pre patch traps?)

p/p can’t decide of its a condition weapon or a power weapon. Staff won’t be able to decide if its a melee weapon or a ranged weapon. You see the comparison? X can’t decide if its a Y weapon or Z weapon.
I 100% agree with you on the dual pistols part, but how do you know about the staff? Despite evidence supporting staff, we don’t even truly know if it’s the thieves elite weapon, let alone the skills that are going to come along with it.
Side note, I’d prefer the staff to be a melee weapon, as a magic-wielding, ranged “shadow assassin” theme would fit better for a focus or scepter in my opinion.
people data mined a picture of “staff theif” (you know…like how they datamined a ele with sword. look how true that turned out)
and now they assume that they getting a melee staff like revanent(you know. the thing people hated for its horrible dmg and cried about)
thief getting ranged staff…doesnt really make sense. as we have so many ranged staffs, and even ranger staff is ranged.
theif melee staff, is like wise a bad move. cause look at revanant’s reaction to it. now thief players are assuming a staff will be “good AoE” when in all likely hood its going to (if its real) be pathetic dmg that is a gimmick, and nothing more.
Rifle has the potential to a new playstyle. with dmg potential while avoiding making any of theif’s current weapons irrelevant (they will all have their roles wile rifle is stationary long range)
but staff would either be horrible underperforming and weak.
or

or

in the end, it doesn’t fit.

. I know its all over the place but a little more control over that pet and its skills + maybe a trait that dodges when we dodge imo that should be baseline or something. That way pet can combo with us, we have more control and our pet won’t die as fast to cleave. I’d feel like the poor little guy was actually trying to help then too! Right now I feel like we grabbed the mutt of the litter for our pets.
that pet is why i have a lv 80 theif, ankitten ow leveling a necro.
i used to have a lv 80 ranger, but it was so unappealing that i deleted it
remade a sylvari range….deleted at lv 53
and now i have an asura ranger….and trying not to delete itthat pet gets me in so much trouble i prefer other classes for being able to dodge roll and not get dragged into combat.
heck on the livestreams, i always see rangers using passive pets.

putting pet in passive mode actually allow more control, since you select his target, and he doesn’t go on a random one at the beggining of the fight.
IF you want to run around in PVE and not be annoyed by your pet taking aggro, just stow it. It’s the little icon with a down arrow on it. Your pet will disapear, and reappear as soon as you get into combat.It also triggers one ranger trait to do that, without the penalty of switching pet. Which is good
if i put the pet on passive whats the point…..
and if i stow it. it shows up as soon as i get hit. why can’t it stay stowed until i need it.

I am pretty sure that elite specializations are added as an additional trait line, not replacing one of the old ones.
All traits that mention “shroud skill [#]” were explicitly changed because they refer to the [#]th skill in either Death Shroud or Reaper Shroud. Transfusion, Unyielding Blast, and Dhuumfire all work with Reaper Shroud, they are just triggered by different skills.

i would have hated to lose 3/5 of my stun breaks xD (i dont much like the other 2)
so when Reaper comes, it gets its own trait line, so assuming i wont be able to use the soul reaping trait line? (which is problematic as there are traits there for staff’s mark skills, and spectral skills)
-will this mean reaper can’t use staff or spectral skills? (thats problematic as thats 3 of your stun breaks gone. 2 from spectral skills. and 1 from soul reaping trait line. i don’t see any reaper skills giving stun break…)
or will it jsut be a 6th line? and let me use any of the other 5 as my remaining 2 trait lines?

Yeah, Anet is a bit inconsistent when it comes to whether or not Charr and Asura females will have the female model or male model. Just two examples: the Lich outfit gives both the male version, while the fancy wintersday outfit gives both the female version.
difference being one counts as normal clothes for both genders
and the other counts as undressed for 1 gender. and normal for the other gender.

honestly…i like them(to varying degrees)
they were a massive improvement over the constant infighting in DE 1.0 (STOP FIGHTING OR I’LL STAB YOU AND REPLACE U WITH SKRITT)
Tiami is interesting, as a underage character tagging along hasn’t been done yet, and her reliance on her golem is nice. my only complaint is when she walks, the game constantly makes her scream louder than she talks (idk whats wrong with her but turn the volume down or give her a hover chair)
Rox’s backstory is interesting, but mostly her and Braham need to get a move on and speed up their current stories. they tend to take the roles of 2ndary characters in the story when they should be up front.
Braham….stop copying Logan by being kitteny. Get along with your mother or ignore her. but stop brooding over it!!!!
Rox, give us ideas to your plans for the future. do you really have a crush on Braham? are you making any progress with rytlock. etc
Rox could learn a few things from the Charr in the light novel Ghosts of Ascalon’s Charr.
Marjory and Kasmeer are a breath of fresh air over the romance-less story we’ve had so far. and honestly i enjoyed their conversations.
compared to DE 1.0 and the Pact. Marjory and Kasmeer are actually believable in their emotions (though they could work on their timing…..middle of a fight is not the time…)
over all, i like them and look forward to bringing them along to turn Traeharne into firewood.

I personally like them (not so much braham with his bitterness against his mom for whatever reason), but I think the position they’re given really screws with people. It’s just like original DE, Trahearne, or the earliest example freaking Kormir. Anet seems to like to have you as a part of the story but they keep npcs close by to take all the credit. It’s like they don’t want to deal with justifying how every player would be the leader/victor/hero of the stories actions. Kill a god and somehow blind worthless chick gets the power, unite 3 factions into a multiracial army and somehow the salad scholar gets to lead it. So I like the characters of the group, especially in season 1 when they were just a bit of a focus point during the chaos, but in season 2 they try to pretend like you’re the boss when they’re the ones making the choices so it doesn’t really feel like you’re doing much but following them around.
One thing I will say I take issue with is that the “group” feels like it’s made of two separate groups. Whenever they split up Rox and Braham go one way and Marjory and Kasmeer go the other, then Taimi goes with one of them. So Taimi seems like the only one that interacts with everyone on a regular basis, like she’s the child of divorced parents and the only thing keeping them together. Otherwise rox and braham go bro it up somewhere while jory and kas go on an investigation date and the the 2 groups wouldn’t even talk if Taimi wasn’t there.
Also I didn’t care for DE 1, aside from Rytlock and Zojja. Caithe, Logan, and Eir all felt so lifeless to me.

They would serve much better as small packs of friends finding their own journey through Maguuma that we sometimes meet in-between our adventures, granted you might find the team enjoyable if you have a taste for bad dialect and story telling but most of us don’t like them.
It’s honestly a joke that to progress through the game, I have to do it with a cast of members I don’t like. Braham and Rox are stale, Kasmeer and Marjory are just shoehorned lesbians that constantly flaunt the fact that they are together in our face, tied together with the worst voice acting I have ever heard and Taimi though being really cool isn’t all that unique and special, just another disgruntled Asura. And as a character doing my story with them I can’t help but feel like a watcher of their drama with absolutely no inclusion in what they are doing.
Please don’t make them essential to the story in HoTS…

i know i cried when tybalt selflessly sacrificed himself to save everyone. i didnt have the pleasure of working with the other two mentors but i just read their dialogues for the final moments of claw island and forgal definitely would have brought a tear to my eye as sell. not so much for sieran, though, there just doesnt seem to be much connection between her sacrifice and the other two mentors. tybalt’s and forgal’s have an intrinsic feeling of redemption/vindication while sieran’s seemed like something a hero “should” do. both tybalt and forgal “lost” something, yet sieran was just seeking adventure, in a weird way she was still (slightly) selfishly thinking of herself, even though the choice she makes is selfless in regards to saving everyone she can.
plus Tybalt and Forgal risk becoming minions when they are inevitably defeated. and they have to worry about doing enough dmg so that their addition to the ranks of undead isn’t a gain for zhaitan, but a loss.
the sylvari…..doesnt turn undead anyway so its not as dramatic.
thieves have always wanted two things since i started playing beta. First is an off-hand sword, second was Rifle. Honestly staff was thrown from pretty much nowhere recently.

range. why? cause all their good skills are melee or close up
shortbow is a shadow step/explosion spam weapon. not good for constant damage from range
pistol…..yeah….pistol/pistol enough said. it FAILED
pistol with dagger is a stealth spam. not a constant damage (or dmg at all really. its a time delay. designed for evading dmg and ends up closer range rather than actual range)
theif has always been in melee, doing bursts of dmg. (or constant dmg with a weaker build)
what doesn’t it have.
ranged constant dmg.
or good burst ranged dmg. (pistol pistol failed. shortbow needs ground targeting and so misses movign stuff)
add to all this pistol range is capped at 900 now. no 1050 range.
Do you have fast casting enabled in the options menu? Because I don’t have that. I have to click the mouse button to actually place the well on the ground. I’m pretty sure that I could cast it at my feet double tapping it, but maybe that was just a lucky coincidence >.>

but even before i enabled it, double clicking still didnt put it at my feet

yeah it seem brute force = warrior
but i added in ranger cause they are like the cleric/monks of nature. so 2 maces would kinda fit this druid theme (i can see them smashing maces together to make a blinding light…..wow i’ve read to much Drizzt Do’Urden)
but so far, all theif weapons are sharp cutting precision weapons.
not really any blunt force weapons so far

I think if you double tap the button which is currently assigned to your skill if will cast it on you feet? I can’t get ingame at the moment to test it, but I recall doing that before.

the 2nd i let go of the key, it places it. no time for a 2nd click.

All you need to do is using your mouse on that skill in that situation. In the end is faster then to try to target yourself and then click it.
yes i know but i’m usually so busy controlling the camera. so it doesn’t help much to let camera go and groudn target
yeah….this is a ground target AoE, and when u get knocked down or knocked back, its annoying as hell to have to target yourself.
can we have the option to disable this one’s ground target so instead it always spawns at your feet?
that way i don’t accidently place it to far away to work on me (cause i have right mouse button down to turn camera)
Maybe it’s some of the strong desire not to be a transform thing kicking in for me, but I doubt it. If they had to make transforms for all the possible pets, it’d be a lot of work just for a line that might not even be used by every ranger build.

Seems more like Nightmare Courtier magic than druidism. She’s a very twisted, evil character and isn’t exactly interested in upholding the balance of nature if she intends to completely change the world’s ecosystems to be spider dominant.

this character has been in game for ages, and yet while people call her a ranger, i’ve never seen a sylvari turn into a spider before. usually only norn transform (and necromancers…)
so what if Fyonna is a druid?
what if the F skill is changed into something LIKE a necromancer
you do damage and build it up. when you activate it, you and your pet become one. and the bar you filled up is the hp.
when the bar is emptied(or canceled) you unfuse and return to your normal selves.

Just something to note – just 2 months ago Sword skills were datamined for the Tempest. If the thief elite specialization is further out than anticipated, it may or may not still get staff.

So I went experimenting with a full beastmaster build in PvP. It felt great however my success was blocked by one major thing: Melee pets, mainly felines, cannot move when they are executing there attack. This causes every attack they do on their enemy, who can even be walking backwards, to not hit at all. I am kinda of tired of this and it feels like I am being incentivized to play less with the class mechanic.
I understand that fixing some AI can be really hard, but this doesn’t even have to do with that. Therefore I really suggest these animals get attack they can use while moving. At least their autoattack.If any1 else has a solution, idea or anything else he/she would like to comment, please tell me. Right now I am kinda moving away from the class and it could just prevent that.

They added the staff and back-drop stuff only a month ago… It may have been in flux, but if they’re going to get this thing out the door, they don’t have time for trash cans anymore. They’ve already begun the artwork on it, which is quite a bit more resource intensive than making up mock-abilities and toying around with ideas.
Sorry, friend, but at this point, it’s pretty safe to just assume you’ll get staff. They’re already behind schedule and have clearly been on the track of staff VERY recently.

Both Elementalist and Necromancer got Shouts. Exclusivity isn’t an argument. I’ve actually never read or heard anything from Arenanet saying that 2 Elite Specialisations can’t get the same weapon.

In other hand, we got repetition of profession skill – Shouts.
In other hand, trough the ele warhorn we got confirmed that those ascended skins datamined are the elite specs weapons skins. There was a glint shield there, and a pole staff there. This is 2 repeated profession weapons right there.
In other hand, Seens like the chances of thief getting pole staff, actually rose to 90%.In Other hand, Staff thief seens much more amazing than WH ele. Don’t complain, or I’ll curse you to get a off hand torch.
Seriously this. Imagine a melee AoE thief class focused on martial arts. Melee staff could have some amazing animations worked in with the most acrobatic class in the game (even has a traitline named for that too!). Maybe Thief will get stances? Martial arts commonly have different offensive/defensive stances that allow for more efficient combat.
if so then theif’s sword would have ranger sword animations
as ranger’s sword is light on feet and agile. like acrobatics.
theif sword is NOT acrobatic but fits a warrior more than an acrobat…
….oh god….if the theif elite proff is a martial arts class and (in addition to staff) they give it the ranger’s sword animation to further fill the “acrobatic theme” i’d actually be happy!
. I know its all over the place but a little more control over that pet and its skills + maybe a trait that dodges when we dodge imo that should be baseline or something. That way pet can combo with us, we have more control and our pet won’t die as fast to cleave. I’d feel like the poor little guy was actually trying to help then too! Right now I feel like we grabbed the mutt of the litter for our pets.
