lick wounds fails when on a slope. it’s ridiculous and gamebreaking…for rangers.

da hell? 98% of the game is a slope!!!!!!!!!!!!!
heck even the stuff that isnt a slope is a slope!

ok these 2 skills
Lick Wounds and Search and Rescue both have the ranger’s pet run to either you or an ally and start to revive them.

is there a fail chance to this because lick wounds fails 80% of the time (pet comes to me but doesnt start to res…just stands there) and ditto for search and rescue(70% of the time)

is this just pet AI or intentional?

and if it jsut the pet’s ai then i got 2 questions.

when will it be fixed
and when will pets be able ot attack o nthe move? cause Anet’s last patch to this just made pet attack animation start faster for the first hit, then pet cant hit enemy anymore cause htey running. that wasnt the solution we wanted.

so basically it just gives +1 hit to a running enemy.
seriously let pet attack on move.
fix pet pathing

Trouble with Thieves

I generally avoid thieves, Many rangers have issues with em.

Unless I cannot.

Lightning Reflexes, I cannt stress this skill enough its even better if you have it specc’ed.

If your Power/Toughness/vit specc’ed — Greatsword + Qz if there glasscannon you’ll melt there faces off. Use the GS #4 to block and counter them for the lols, Gs #5 to stun em if possible.

Signet of stone speec’ed grants you 6 seconds invun, minor time for you to think and act.

If they mass cloak with the little house on top, Use your longbow barrage in the field – (this can be a risk in itself) If you have a great sword jump in there and spam your GS# 1

ok as a ex thief play(aka i moved from thief to ranger) i will agree that barrage on shadow refuge is a good way to hit them, but most thiefs can take that dmg and stay cloaked.

a better idea is to have a wolf pet to fear them out of it.
if you can knockback, pull, fear, or anything to a thief that knocked them out of shadow refuge before the refuge dissapears, the thief will lose the 12 secounds of stealth. get the 3 secoudn reveal, and the render engine usually renders them faster than normal. meaning that thief who was planning to bunker down and w8 you out is now-
in the open
probably low on hp
unable to stealth
and rendered for you to shoot
so switch to longbow, rapid fire and finish them off =)

of coarse…most of this works only if the pet you have can use thier skill fast enough, that f2 skill delay stinks..

so long story short it 40 minutes of some guy in a low tier server(and so no one plays) going around killing NPCs and the occasional low level people who arent even lv 30 yet (no elite skills were used by them).

idk whats worse. the fact that he thinks killing low levels makes him the best
or the fact that he keeps saying he the best.

all in all it a boring vid, and is jsut a guy complimenting himself.

get him to come to a high tier server where lv 80s play and vs people who are his level.
cause killing people under lv 30 who are pwoer leveled to 80, but have little to no traits, or good armor is just sad.

Staff, used like a melee (not a ranged.) uses one.

It would be unique, because all the other staffs in the game are ranged weapon, whilst this would be melee.

1.
(1) Fierce Strike: (x2): 333 Damage, grants 2 seconds of reveal, range 130.
(2) Fierce Swing: (x2): 444 Damage, grants 2 seconds of reveal, range 130.
(3) Fierce Smash: (x3): 333 Damage, grants 2 seconds of reveal, range 130. (grants short evasion for the duration.) (3/4 second channel time.)
(Stealth) Shadow Strike: Front damage: 804 (0.25 second daze.), Range: 130, Back damage: 406 (if behind, knocks the target down for 2s.), Range: 130 (Although, this would be hard to do since this thief is revealed so much, it would be more of a first strike move.)

2. Mantis Leap: 568 Damage, Combo Finisher: Leap, Range: 600 (3 Int Cost.)

3. Mantis Twirl: Damage (9x): 1,251, Combo Finisher: Whirl, grants evasion while channeling, Range: 130. (5 Int Cost.) (3/4 second channel time.)

4. Fierce Kick: Damage: 481, Knockback: 180. (4 Int Cost.)

5. Cobra Stance: Grant 15s fury, and swiftness and “revealed” (debuff) to yourself. (6 Initative.)

The Staff is an “in your face.” weapon, dealing more damage then conditions, but preventing the thief from going into stealth due to the power of the weapon.

((The damage is from similar abilities with the same effects.))

saw this thread and was gonan be like “thief…with a staff? lol as if” but after reading the skill stats. you do have me convinced. after all a thief should be counted on to use whatever weapons are around. and stealing a staff from an elementalist and using it as an impromptu weapon sounds like something a thief in a dangerous situation would do.

but before we do that we need to get ranger back on its feet because ranger is supposed to be the hunter of thieves. and until ranger is fixed no one can properly go up against the thief.

still a good idea for staff. i still liek the idea of a slow firing, acurrate sniper thief better though. snipe a window far away to create a distraction and run matches thieves as well.

Plank in WvW jump puzzle

i thought all those consumable items had been blocked from WvW, guess Anet “forgot” some.

right now we have thieves(able to hide in thier stealth until it to late) sitting on top of EB Jump puzzle jsut swinging that plank once and knocking thier opponent FAR off the platform for an instant kill, the player has to do the entire puzzle again and the thief sits up there for hours getting plenty of kills.

opinions on this?

and should Anet have properly blocked this item from WvW like they said they had with other consumables, a number of which appear to once again work in WvW again, including some Sylvari seed turrets (not the skill, the consumable) that are healing walls and siege in SBI keep.

not much of a surprise. Anet has already made it clear enough that Warrior is their favorite class and they want it to be better than all others. just surprised they havent given it stealth, teleport, and a machine gun.

let me see if i get what you mad about.

you mad that a server that has no towers and keeps can get 1 tower with ease.

….you do know thats kinda the point.

to give them a foothold so you can’t spawn camp them.

the breakout event is fine as it is now, lets servers get a foothold with ease. now if it was giving them a keep i could understand. but this is just a tower. easy enough to take back.

and last i checked the breakout event has a short cooldown durign which time you can build siege.

the NPC commander isnt much of a threat(unless you crying that greatsword warrior is OP, in which case its something everyone has known for a while) and you can easily defeat the event by killing the 10 human players and then focusing on the commander.

they made this event for the exact thing its doing right now. look at it not from your point of view but from the server that is using it. to them this event is giving them a chance to gain a small foothold in a map where they are outmatched.

ok..gonna summarize the thief in a short statement.

Thief is a HIT AND RUN CLASS. that does dmg and then runs away.

if it can’t run away then it doesnt work.

thief is working as expected right now.

wow…a warrior complaining about a class being OP.
i wonder if they have looked at their own class, 15k dmg killshot. or 24k dmg hundred blade strike.

this is nothing more than a person whining cause they arent as good with thier class as they think.

besides, all Anet cares about is ignoring ranger, ele, and other classes and buffing warrior.

besides when was last time thief got a buff instead of a nerf.

rerolled to thief, with a small warrior also leveling.

gotta admit i love thief, pistol/pistol is the best way to kite while doing dmg, dagger/dagger for melee dmg. or if i feel like trolling my opponent, sword/dagger to continually evade around them till they scream thier heads off.

loving thief cause i can stealth and get away from combat(with speed and shadowstep)
without pet dragging me into combat again cause it wont stay stowed.

i do miss ranger’s sword animations and the longbow’s barrage. but giving them up to get rid of pet and to get actual dps(instead of the laughable ammount ranger has) is nice.

as for thief’s elite skills. i wish i could get entangle, as dagger storm, while being good, isnt really me. but thief’s guild works.

and finally i wish thief could use a rifle(liek a sniper) or a greatsword(….yeah i dont really know why i want to use it but ranger’s GS animations and that block were amazing)

so yeah…i miss ranger but i don’t regret leaving it because Anet is never going to give a crap about fixing it.

ok PP in fractals. lets see

1. it a game, if you dont have fun you not playing the game right.
2. PP does actually do more dmg than shortbow against bosses where you have to keep moving, shortbow needs you to either have more than 1 opponent so the shots bounce, or be able to stop moving and aim the AoE skill.
3. in PvP if you use the pistol stealth move followed by spammign the dual shot skill you can actually do pretty good dmg at a distance.

4. the person who made this thread is either trolling, or is QQ cause he can’t use dual pistols. its up to the player what they use, not you.

ok, i understand why they did this..but i wanted to point out that one of the forum GMs may want to correct what he said.

Thanks for this catch. I will look at it on Monday.

Invuln and invis are intended to stop you from capping, but simple evades are not.

Berserker not doing the correct damage is known issue. We don’t know where this issue is coming from but I intend to solve it by the next build. 12/14/12

I know that seems a long time but it will be set back to viable. If you have good data on the damage it used to do to heavy target dummy vs what it does now that will help me track down the issue.

don’t get your hopes up though because chances are it will be either another nerf, or a small buff. ranger as a whole probably wont be fixed for a long time if they are still nerfing parts of it.

ok now my opinion, i think portal is fine, as long as it used legitly. its an ability and paramount to mesmer, using it to move golems jsut means you need ot be aware of where they are. it does have a limited ranger afterall.

as for nonlegit portals, by this i mean idiotic hackers, it is game breaking, they use it to portal thier team from garrison straight into SM without taking walls down, THATS game breaking.

if you down and your opponent isnt, i do see how it makes a difference, either they stab you with the flag and get badge of honor, or they cut you up with normal attack.

either way you dead.

theifs stealth, so they going to stealth finish. in comparison warriors got hp and armor plus lots of way to use stability so they can afford to finish without stealth.

So you want to make small groups less effective and make zergs more necessary?

no, i want guards to actually seem like an enemy player. right now they are there because no one wants to sit in that supply camp while everyone else runs and attacks.
WvW is turning into a large scale LoL with siege options. you have the weak NPCs and then you have enemy players.

it was supposed to feel like an actual war where you arent some almighty god fightign other gods while the NPCs cower.

give guards variety, and make them seem to be able to hold thier own, and then taking over a supply camp with 2 people will actually give you a sense of accomplishment for taking something challenging with so few people, instead of a boring chore of taking it over without havign to worry to much about failing.

WvW Guards

Remember when everyone was low level and guards in WvW were challenging, it seemed like those guards could hold thier own.

now most people are max level and guards are seen as nothing more than a easy kill for most people.

maybe its time to increase their difficulty or give them access to all 5 of their weapon’s skills so that they can’t be so predictable.

in supply camps it is dissapointing to see all the npcs die to 2 people. that camp shoudl be able to hold off 3 or 4. and why is the guard charging forward when thier is a siege weapon near them they could use.

and the sentrys? what is thier purpose other than to place a easy guard kill, if a sentry is under attack a mark should appear on the map from a flare or firework the guard shoots up to alert people that he needs help, that is his job.

long story short WvW is becoming more player vs player focused with NPCs being nothing more than easy kills, they should be able to hold thier own…and appear to have more brains than the simple “run and attack”

why don’t the guards run when they low hp, real players do, npc bandits do as well, so the coding is there.

all in all i don’t want WvW to get borign and want to it to continue ot be challenging.
havivgn smarter guards, that maybe use the siege weapons that right next to them, or using thier abilities in a pattern that ISNT predictable (aka use the bolas after they stun charge you for once, right now they so predictable that you evade once you in range to avoid the bola, and then run around them. or heck, give them a utility skill like stability or buff, dredge have buffs =/) would make WvW continue to be fun.

seriously, bandits, dredge, and so on all have abilities and use them in random orders.
WvW guards have normal attack, 1-2 attack skills, or bola in the case of guard, and a heal skill. wheres the variety?

switch up guards weapons maybe! a dual axe guard or a rifle guard from time to time would be alot more fun than mace/shield guards each and every time.

anyway thats my 5 cents for what i think WvW needs to stay fun. NPCs should be jsut as much a part of it as enemy players. that way it would actually be worth reviving that downed npc ally.

SOS…. SBI….. Nice try on hills in SOS BL. Despite the fact you both were hitting us and breached outer gates plenty of times, we held off your pushes. SOS, you almost had us there, that north inner wall was at about 10%. Really great fight, one of the best I’ve ever had. It seemed like JQ on SOS BL was defending for quite a while. We had a red suit on, in a crowd of black suits all day.

Just goes to show what kind of server we are… Now if only we can fill in the gaps:(

So uh… did you like Team Shatter / True Shatter’s next attempt of our omega rush?
But on a serious note, you did really well defense, that whole map didn’t change for around 18 hours. Very impressed with our competition.

and Anet doesnt seem to be in any hurry to fix them, or for that matter fix it at all. 3 weeks and no update.
face facts, ranger’s doomed.
Anet is to focused on its favored class warrior. (which is the only class i’ve seen their GMs play)

ok reasons i HATE pet. 1. it cant attack on the move so it USELESS in pvp and WvW.
2. it dies in 2 secounds
3. all it does is draw aggro when i dont want any and draw me into combat.
i ok with it drawign aggro in when i in combat but not when i trying to avoid it.
4. it wotn stay STOWED.
5. it makes me weak cause ranger skills need pet alive ot be effective. see 2.
6. if you tell it to stay out of combat, it runs in anyway. pet ai stinks.

i like ranger skills, i like the animations for sword and greatsword. but what i don’t like is having to sacrifice my dmg, and my skills to help that pet along.
it doesn’t help and i would much rather just get rid of it all together.

Everybody forget something with the GS, the #3 and #4 deals good damages too.
The #5 give to your pet +50% damage on his next attack too, the GS is the best melee weapon to burst.

ranger can’t burst. thats one of its problems.
PvP is controlled by burst classes and those without burst get left behind

New Ranger Feedback

i would say something to comfort you..but i got nothing to say.

ranger has been broken for a while, and even more so with the last few patches buffing other classes, warrior in particular.

rangers been forgotten and left behind, despite we promise we were given that turned out to be a lie.

ranger melee was nerfed a long way back and has been something of a joke.
as for that obstructed thing, we have told Anet about it again and again but havent gotten a fix or response.

for now i would suggest you let ranger go and play a longbow warrior. with Anet choosing warrior as their favorite it already outmatches ranger in ranged dmg.

apparently this next patch is supposed to have the fix for ranger, but based of the last patch that was supposed to be the same thing, i wouldnt get your hopes up. Anet doesnt want to change the ranger, and the only way the ranger will be worthwhile is if it undergoes ALOT of changes.

if you dont believe me find a GM, and notice what class they are playing. 90% of the time it warrior, 10% it varies but isnt ever ranger.

The list of bugs, complaints and general unhappiness with the Ranger class is entirely fixable. You don’t have to roll out 3 “fixes” at a time to do it either. Here is a list of things that can be implemented tomorrow that would turn this class on its head and bring joy to those that have long since shelved their Rangers.

TRAPS-
-Make traps enlarged by default. There is no reason to have to use a passive ability for this
-Double the trap effectiveness by default (CC length and condition)
-Significantly (100%) increase the damage dealt by traps (condition damage)

ABILITIES
-Make hide in plain sight an actual ability and not a passive ability. Give it a 10 min cooldown.
-Give Rangers access to control ALL of the pet abilities

PET
-Pet AOE taunt for PVE and make them actually hold aggro
-Get rid of half of the useless pets or make the useless pets usable (aka the pig and such)
-Give a pet the ability to detect stealth
-LET US STOW THE PET
-Make the pet stay on passive

General Ability
-Increase the shot distance of the longbow by 10% by default
-Make “Rampage As One” ignore conditions as well as CC

And finally!

DPS-
-Increase the general DPS by Rangers (off the top) by 25-30% and scale it accordingly with strength. The precision crit percentage should be adjusted to match the scale. Also the pets would need a significant increase to match this.

THIS is how the “significant changes” release should have looked. I would buy the dev that did all of this an omaha steak.

i’d rather hide in plain sight stay passive with its short cooldown than use once..for 3 secound, with a 10 minute cooldown.

controlling all of the pets abilities seems liek a good idea, but i would like an option to let pet choose if i choose to focus on ranger. so make it so pet’s abilities are shown to you and you can activate one if it isnt i ncooldown, but you dont NEED to select it to make it use it.

as for pets seeing stealth, i got an idea. if an enemy is stealthed near you pet will automatically leave what its doign and head to them, ranger can’t see the stealthed person but can see the pet attacking the place where the stealthed person is. this gives rangers the knoledge that something is there, taking dmg from pet, and wont make thiefs cry that we killed thier class, cause the thief can kill pet before stealthing. so its fair game.
and maybe if a stealthed target gets hit by pet a little red glowing orb will appear on them that the ranger can select to fire at.
because the pet has now found and marked the stealthed target, so the ranger now knows where to shoot.

So let me get this straight Thieves should get there stealth that makes them unique and has been the traditional role of there class. Which has also made them the most represented and played class in both tpvp and spvp

idk what you mean by they are overpowered but either you havent seen one since the first beta weekend or you trolling

Lightning Reflexes

ok, has anyone else noticed that in most cases when you are rolling backward you should..you know..be moving?

lightning reflexes shares the same animation and stun breaker status as the theif skill roll for initiative.
the difference, roll for initiative removes immoble, cripple, and frost along with a stun so you ACTUALLY roll back. along with gaining initiative.
the ranger version, Lightning reflexes does dmg, gives vigor and breaks stun. but if you frosted, crippled, or immoblized it doesnt matter if you stunned or not cause you arent going anywhere.

you’d be better of saving the skill for later because using it when u immoble, crippled, or stunned just wastes it. you stay in the same spot…

seriously did anyone in Anet ask how makign cripple, frost or immoblize affecting the animation would affect gameplay?

and now why i post this.
1. i dont care if we have to keep the frost,cripple, and immoblize conditions. but when we roll backward we should actually MOVE BACK.
2. if you use this skill while frosted, it occasionally glitches your character so they are stuck on the last part of the animation. they can move, they can attack, and use skills. but unless you switch weapons your character will be stuck in that glitched position…apparently using skill slots(not signets) also fixes this…but attack animations dont.
and 3. …i could type it in again but instead i will jsut say to reread 1.

Ranger armor build for FOTM

my armor is all power toughness and crit(or was that prec….it the knight stuff) with ruby trinkets.

everything has beryl upgrades (power, crit dmg and a bit of vit)

its worked so far (up to level 14) but i switching from my longbow to shortbow…getting extremely pissed at 1500 range longbow making them invulnerable cause they only have 900 range…that and devourer pet makign them invulnerable means that until Anet fixes this random obstructed/miss +the unfair invulnerable glitches, my build isnt that useful.

still if u only on level 11 use this build till u at 14.

greatsword(power,prec,crit dmg) with bloodlust
longbow(power,prec, crit dmg) with quickness

wolf pet(fear)
devourer(that poison thing…anyone notice it the only pet skill that instantly activates?)

what is the point of using 1500 range on a longbow if monsters go invulnerable that far away.
and if they are a ranged entry(like harpy in fractal) they go invulnerable unless you within 900.

makes longbow pointless compared to shortbow.

seriously please fix that

Can i get an ETA for a ranger update because i really want to know if i should continue world exploration while w8ing a week for update. or just forget it and go back to warrior since that is the only class that actually has a strong bow and greatsword.

if you are using a pet like devourer or spider, one with a ranged attack and lets say you are meleeing.

well you know that annoying thing where monsters go invulnerable when u shoot them and they cant reach you. well now the monster is invulnerable because of your pet, despite you meleeing it.

and to make it worse. this is occuring UNDERWATER. where the enemy can always reach your pet.
so why is it doing this?

i getting tired of vsing an underwater boss enemy and then my ranged pet will make them invulnerable. they heal and i sitting there swinging my spear cursing myself for HAVING a pet.

seriously can i PLEASE have an option to hide this pet till i WANT it to come out. not when i get in combat.

tested this to see if problem was fix. but jsut as many random miss, obstructed, and invulnerables.

maybe you got lucky, or maybe the problem has something to do with connection to the server.
