That’s really sad.

I just got back to the game after a bit of a break and picked up expac but it seems I just missed the latest ‘SAB festival’. If it’s just not feesable I guess I’ll just have to wait for next year like all the other SAB fans.

Seems a pity to have paid for something I can only use once a year though.

I’d love to get the opportunity to jump back into SAB casually throughout the year when I feel like some downtime.

I have the infinite coin and can’t make use of it for most of the year and it’s a real shame because I love the SAB content.

Change the downed state to be whatever attunement to ele was downed in.
Something like:

Water: Vapor form – same as current (reduced duration from 3 to 2 seconds)
Fire: Conflagration – single target 4 second burn with a 1 second fear.
Earth: Seismic wave – PBAoE knockedown pulsing twice for 2 seconds
Air: Judgement bolt – high direct damage lightning bolt with a 300 range blowout.

None are inherently overpowered, water still allows ele’s a downed escape, but opens up more counter play through blink stomps as the duration is shorter.
Fire suffers from the same flaws as other downstate interrupts but adds a nice burn even if the interrupt is negated through stability.
Earth allows of a second interrupt meaning blind stomps need to be reapplied but deals no damage.
Air is a strong attack but like fire it’s interrupt can be negated.
It will add another element of choice for the ele player to decide which downstate would be most useful in a given situation prior to being downed (if they get that luxury :P)

I do dislike it when a topic has a ‘developer reply’ which is just moderating the thread. It draws my attention to the topic in a way almost akin to false advertising haha

That aside, I am in Australia, and play on us servers. My timezone is about 12 hours ahead of most players. I just don’t feel there is any feasible solution anet can implement that doesn’t hurt an area of its playerbase.

It’s selfish to assume the hours invested into the game by Americans are somehow more valuable and worth more points than the hours invested by people in other timezones.

1 takes too much away from engi’s class mechanic.

More charges could be nice, I would like for the weapons to be able to be dropped on the floor when you want to swap out not banished to oblivion. That way it kinda emulates the engi kits but anyone can pick them up and you have to go back to the spot you dropped it in to be able to pick it back up again. I think that’s a good enough compromise that doesn’t take too much away from the engi kit mechanic.

I would also like the usage timer to be removed, however the cool-down would have to start the moment the final charge is spent for balance.

I think there should be a 100 fold increase to the drops in wvw, but there should be diminishing returns and only on attacking. Hopefully this would make it much less rewarding to Zerg around flipping everything pvdoor style.

Also, the 3 min reward/contest timer needs to be extended to 5 mins. Not only would this fit well with the vastly increased rewards of defending (for loot balance issues) but it would mean that waypoints are open much less frequently making turtle’ing much harder.

Finally, people on walls should not need LOS to activate skills and defenders should gain a 100% direct and condition damage increase against players in downed state.
Even if it means the implementation of a hidden buff granted to players on walls that allows all skills to be triggered without LOS it should be put in game. Defending needs to be easier than attacking, but much more punishing if you royally screw it up allowing for better rewards on successful defence.

Question
If there will be any change to the Commander Gating, does that mean everybody start from scratch? or current Commanders still get to keep their tags? Because I would hate to lose/get a refund on my tag. I saved hard for that when i had very little cash and would like to keep it.

I was just asking to get a sense of it really. : )

While I wouldn’t mind the commander system being gated better and the possibility starting everyone from scratch , I feel it would have some significant issues:

- Anyone currently with a tag would want their money back. Maybe hundreds of thousands of gold would need to be refunded. Of course I would want mine back too! But I am not sure the economy would really like that.

- If the current ‘goldsilverbronze’ event rewards are not re-imagined, and this new gate will likely be tied to wxp and therefore likely tied to how much zerging around you do. It wouldn’t allow for any real defensive commanders

Here is my question:

What is wrong with the Raid Leader system in WoW that precludes GW2 from adopting it? That system is at least 5 years old (I think it’s closer to 10) and worked extremely well.

The Raid Leader system in WoW provided:
– raid leaders (aka commanders)
– raid assistants (aka lieutenants)
– multiple target markers for assigning priority/actions
– on-screen message overlays for providing clear, concise directions

If you had this system in GW2, you would eliminate many of the problems in WvW and PVE and PVP to boot!

I’ll respond to this to get the general idea out to everyone. Implementing a system that is in other games, older games or not, that is not in our game at all is a very time consuming project. It is not as simple as just copying and pasting some HTML code. Not only do we have to build it ourselves, but it has to fit with the design of our game both visually and from a systems standpoint. So, building any system of this sort, even one that was a direct copy of one in another game or product, would still be a significant project for us. Which isn’t a reason not to do it, but is a factor in determining when we would want to do those things.

Tbh many of us have been waiting for a UI change since launch. If you were to come out say “Yes we will do it, it will take x months however” we would all be happy.

Many previous comments on change were met with vague statements like ’ it’s being looked into’ which didn’t really give us any confidence that anything was going to get done.

Sure it’s a shame that after all the requests over the past year we are only now fleshing out ideas on how to do it, but better late than never I say.

Start from scratch.

Commander and squad system has so much unrealised potential. It needs to be more like a raid system used in other games so more information is readily available on screen by being in a squad. (And not just to the commander either)

Squad members need to be able to see more health/buff bars (maybe lock it to simple more when you enter a squad to make more room ) and UI needs to be adjustable and moveable.

Think of it more like a leap version of Warrior greatsword 3 whirlwind attack

It has a combo finisher, it can be used as a gap closer/escape, and also evades all attacks in the process. Only difference is swoop applies the damage at the end. The changes they mentioned only make the skill more usable, and Jon even said they might not even remove the evade from the aa chain.

How to make ranger pets useful in wvw

This could be a trait or it could be just given to all wvw rangers to help them with large scale combat:

Instinctual evasion:
Every time the ranger or rangers pet receives damage from a source if damage the pet gains 1 stack of Instinctual evasion for 5 seconds. Damage from the same source renews the stack of Instinctual evasion and damage from additional sources apply additional stacks of Instinctual evasion.

Instinctual evasion: grants the pet. 10% chance to evade damage from any source (including AoE, PBAoE, and GTAoE).

The rangers pet isn’t very helpful at the best of times but it dies far too quickly in wvw. This change will quickly add up in a large scale fight to allow the pet to stay alive and contribute for much longer. Hopefully with this change it will no longer be in its instinctual calling in life to seek out and bathe in every stray AoE there is on the battlefield.

A change like this would make it so that the pet doesn’t become godlike in fights where the rangers isn’t fighting lots of enemies but can at least become helpful if big fights, like those in wvw, happen.

I felt it needed to completely evade damage and not just reduce damage because the stacks require damage to be topped up and if the pet is no longer sitting in the middle of aoes after the 5 seconds (like if the ranger has sent it to the enemies back line to cause trouble) it shouldn’t be able to keep up the high evasion unless the ranger him/herself is taking heavy damage.

It doesn’t cancel out. It works exactly as I described. There are a few builds that have upwards of -90% duration and it is a HARD counter for any condition damage build. I believe there is an ele build and a warrior build for that.

Are you sure? Did you run tests? Reason I say is because I made the exact same point as you and someone provided me with this answer in this thread.

And then you consider condition duration food/traits/gear and your condition reduction food is usless.

This post does not recognize how the mechanics work. If you max stacked 100% condition duration and applied a base 5 second bleed which with 100% duration, which takes heavy stacking, is 10 seconds. Take -60% condition duration and you get 4 second bleeds.

-condi duration > +condi duration.

While that’s correct math wise, I think people have proven that, in this game at least, 40% inc and a 40% dec cancel each other out.

The problem we are having now is all of these Oceanic players are flocking to a single server and ruining WvW for everyone else.

Now I am an oceanic player playing on an underpopulated server at my timezone (Borlis pass) but why is it bad for players wanting to play with people in their own timezone?

It’s not our fault there will never be servers for us… We are the minority, so you are saying we can’t play unless we are all spread evenly across every server?

I made a suggestion months back that if you are revived from dead (not downed) that the Rez sickness debuff that applies after you use the revival orb in pve should be applied when in wvw.

That would slow down the advance of the zombie hordes and actually help those who are outmanned.

I have a Warrior hammer/sword-shield. With 0/10/30/0/30. And yes, need that nerf, is just OP, i always said that.

But, is funny how Arenanet nerf that, what is ok. But continue supporting condition meta (through runes and sigils), what is the same.

Powerbuilds for maximum damage needs: Power, crit chance, crit damage.
Condibuilds for maximum damage needs: Condition power.

With condi builds you are saving in 2 stats, you can use it in defense and have maximum tankiness with maximum damage.

Counters for condi builds: remove conditions? reapply without penalization system laugh at it.
Condition duration reduction? Food, runes, sigils, traits hard counter it.

And condi build has A LOT of soft CC. A LOT. And some immobilize and hard cc.

Condition damage is a meta because is the best way to get advantage, in any games what is meta is op or broken, and in some point meta change, why? because that broken/op part is nerf or hardcounter. And the meta change.

I run full exotic/ascended dire on my necro with applied fortitude. I run blindchill spam, all the fear I can get. I still get back stabbed for 8k. What good is all my toughness doing? I don’t care how someone else has to build to make those hit happen, they happen often enough that every thief I come across must magically be running full zerker with scholar runes or something…

If I go all in on defensive gear I expect to have some defence. Conditions may be strong, but they can be cleansed, reduced in duration or completely ignored all together (grrrwarriors). You can’t cleanse direct damage. And when a thief can hit that hard every 3 seconds, and when misses don’t pull them out of stealth (making blinds useless) it’s very hard to say my dire set is overpowered…

This is wvw not spvp. Conditions rarely tick for the full duration unless your party is full of terrible players with horrible builds. Plus people can run huge condition reduction runes food and traits.

Phantasmal berserker summoned an attack that hit enemies without requiring line of sight. It was nerfed so that it required line of sight to hit.

The Trait on Guard could possibly be: Whenever u apply Blindness/Volnerablility to a Target it’ll get immobelized/dazed for 1s.

With the Volnerablity Version it would be even a weaker Trait because Guardians havejust one source on Volnerability. ^^

It wouldn’t work due to other traits. You can trait VoJ to blind on activation, to apply vuln on blind. So your idea would have to have a cooldown, or it would be able to apply aoe imob/daze. Add to that you can trait to renew VoJ after every kill and you have a cc spam issue.

Ranger is inherently at a disadvantage due to the class dependency on it’s pets. Pets are not strong enough or smart enough in most wvw situations and as soon as it dies the ranger can lose a lot of functionality from traits.

I actually find the pet quite useful when soloing a camp, especially if it’s upgrade or has NPC mercenaries in it, too. Send the pet in to attack first and draw the enemy into a nice ball and then AoE them with Barrage, Piercing Arrows, and the Mistfire Wolf. But against other players, you need serious pet management to keep them from dying quickly.

I have a feeling that to be able to address the topic, we need to focus down on fixing the smaller things that add up to make the issue.

A larger server may be more attractive than a smaller one because of a number of things;
- Established community and playerbase. Some servers have a large number of guilds and groups that regularly wvw, websites and forums. Obviously you need wvw’ers to establish a wvw community so this is likely a case of ‘rich get richer’.
- Coverage. Tied into the above point, and again a ‘rich get richer’ issue. People typically want to play with people in thier own timezones. Oceanic’s want to play with other oceanic’s and will flock to the larger servers because that’s where the majority of players in that timezone play.
- Rewards. Players in the top tiers have more enemies to fight/kill and due to the way wxp works and the poor implementation of defensive rewards players on these servers get more wxp, more rank chests, more loot. (IMO: There needs to be some way to ramp up the rewards defenders get the longer they hold out fighting an enemy for and also ramp up the rewards the longer attackers try to take a structure. The flip and forget bull we see day in day out needs to stop)
- Moral. There needs to be ways to keep players engaged when they are not ‘winning’. While most of us hate to admit it, many wvw’ers are motivated by reward. “Why spend my time defending at x timezone, the enemy has 20 more players than us and we have no hope of holding it. I dont get any loot, wxp, karma by being here trying so I may as well champfarm/dungeon crawl/<insert other pve event>.”

We need more dev input to focus on specific points they want us to address because this thread is a mess.

Where’s the numbers?
Where’s his proof? It goes both ways. Him just saying its fine and locking the thread doesn’t help. If he’s not going to tell us why it feels like the enemy had more people than us even while the maps were queued it doesn’t help anything?

What’s the max population of a wvw map and why is this information withheld anyway? Is this evenly distributed so that when all servers queue there is absolutely no way one team could possible have more than the others?
Where is our user-friendly queue counter that’s shows how many spaces left?

Why are queues not real queues, in the traditional first come first serve system?

Why can guilds and parties not join as a whole. A specific guild/party join wvw button allowing the guild leader to send a popup to all guild members and whoever agrees will be compiled and entered into the as whole would help. UI could show the number of guildies who would actually be able to get in based off of available queue slots so that a guild could make an informed decision whether or not to enter a map if some of its members would get queued out.

Why is idle time before kick from the server not drastically reduced in the spawn and citadel areas?

Why can’t commanders see every person on the map? That way we could see if a massive cluster of players was doing the borderlands ‘mercenary camps’ or ruin trading.

Things like passive condi clear like empathetic bond, cc prevention from shared anguish and many other traits are rendered useless as soon as the pet dies with takes all of 5 seconds in aoe heavy wvw.

Obviously rangers are playable but it’s just something they have to combat before they even fire an arrow, throw an axe, or swing a blade at their enemies.

Ok now you are back what are you opinions on world population?

Are we likely to see any changes to the way the server population system accounts for players at a given time to make it focus primarily on players partaking in wvw?

Any ideas on implementing systems that encourage even distribution, over stacking the highest population servers? Have we really nailed down why people want to stack the top tier servers even with queues and skill lag?

Once we can truly identify why someone would rather not be on Anvil Rock as opposed to Blackgate we can look to solve the issues. My personal opinion however is an established community which is something developers can’t really do anything about unless better systems are put in place to organise a server from a wvw standpoint. (Better UI and raid systems could go a long way towards this )

Are the devs still reading this? Seems devoid of developer posts/opinions/suggestions. Doesn’t appear to be much collaboration going on aside from the usual playervsforum stuff we usually get.

Pretty disheartening when you see the number of Dev replies in Living World thread compared to this one, but not surprising.

I count 4 replies not including the original post. The pve version has 38 dev replies…

Same here, No precursor drops from MF or openworld. I haven’t even had an ascended drops. I have been playing since last October (4k hours played all up) but then again most of my time is spent in wvw so maybe that’s why… Even with the new wvw rank up chests I haven’t seen any ascended items from them and at most maybe 1 or 2 exotics.

My luck is rather terrible it seems.

Some time ago there was talk of making signets much more valuable. The toss up between using the signet or keeping it was something that I found very interesting and the changes to warrior signets took the first steps to make this possible.

My question is when can we see this on other classes? I will give some examples.

A condi Necromancer has no reason not to use Signet of spite currently. Condi necros don’t really care much for more power and as a result there is no dilemma placed on the player to decide if it worth losing the passive for the active. Maybe changing the attribute to increase condition damage, or to increase toughness/reduce damage taken would make it you have a reason not to spend it the moment you see a chance.

Signet of the locust has a lacklustre active that isn’t really related to the passive. If the active was a version of dark path (with a higher projectile speed) a Necromancer would have think “do I want to lose my movement speed bonus for a chance of catching and chilling the running enemy?”.

Ranger signet of the hunt is the same. The active is very weak for many players and as such you see players constantly holding on to the passive for the movement speed.

Mesmer signet of midnight is generally deemed a useless signet and needs work. The passive 10% boon duration is negligible at best, my suggestion would be change it to a movement speed increase signet. Also the active could be to cleanse 2 conditions instead of blind (to make it different from signet of shadows) and finally give the Mesmer some active condi cleanse. (Might need a slightly longer cooldown to compensate)

Many ele’s asked for changes to the focus last balance update and nothing really happened. We assumed the changes would be too far out of scope in the short timeframe you gave us but figured that when the next balance came around focus would get some love.

It appears not focus could be such a fun weapon to use if fire didn’t suck so bad. Could you at least look into changing the focus skills in fire?

Queue Priority Based on WvW Rank?

No way.
Why should lower ranked lvl 80 alts have less priority than my necro and guardian…

Infact why should high wvw rank mean anything. The only reason my guardian and necro are higher ranks is because I used birthday boosters and zerged more on those. No amount of skill was used. Wvw rank is a joke.

If you want your maps to be full of useless zerglings and zero upgrade keeps/towers go right ahead, because all your dedicated upgrades will get queued out because they didn’t wxp farm hard enough. Worst idea ever…
