On the flip side, why do WvW players need to run dungeons and complete PvE maps to get their legendaries?
Answer: Becoming legendary requires playing all aspects of the game.
Asuran technology.
WvW resets at 4pm PST on Friday every week.
Probably some players getting antsy since they left that part of the monthly to the last minute. Would have been better if they asked, certainly. Always good to remember that your realmies will be the people fighting along side of you in the war.
In other words, “Let’s displease anyone who has a name they like and who for whatever reason plays intermittently, to satisfy a few players who are kittenhurt because they can’t have a name they want — when there is no guarantee that the name they want would become available.”
Worst. Idea. Of. The. Month.
Agree!
But if you want to see the last time your guildies were active, you can look at the Leaderboards here:
https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/achievements
Login to the Leaderboards and set it for Guild. Hover your mouse over the achievements column and it will show the last date they earned a point. (but careful, this does not account for people that may login just to /dance in Lion’s Arch or w/e)
Run dungeons for tokens. (vendors are in Lion’s Arch)
Karma vendors in Orr (at corrupted god temples)
Crafting.
Random drops from mobs and chests.
Thank you, ArenaNet – a really lovely, unexpected gift
Ha, that was great. Love the music choices too.
Now tell me the liklihood of getting that %100 map completion again…
DR is elite! LOL!
It’s less about their overall ranking and more about how they do in the matches each week. Here is your server’s history.
http://mos.millenium.org/servers/history/50
As you can see they have their shares of ups and downs as do all servers. But there have been many times when they’ve come out in first place, and the starting maps change fairly often.
There’s a live map button on that link that you can watch to see if a particular POI or vista you want is claimed by your server.

I understand that they don’t want to commit to a 2 week content patch schedule, but this makes 6 weeks in a row which is pretty darn exciting. I mean, I was blown away by free monthly content patches – this is really incredible
In 2011 WoW had over 12 million ACTIVE subscribers, GW2 barely broke 450k in august of 2013 and hasnt even sold half of what WoW has in active subscriptions in overall copies sold.
You are comparing a peak concurrency number to total number of subs. Peak concurrency is total number of players logged in at a single moment, where a sub indicates how many logged in over an entire month.
For instance, WoW’s peak concurrency at MoP launch was only 1 million which falls within industry standards – peak concurrency is usually around 10% of total active players per month. So GW2 probably has ~4 million active players (if not more since the China launch).

I love these conveniences and can’t imagine playing a game without them now
One of the greatest posts on the forums
I agree, well done OP.
Brienne of Tarth – Warrior!
Love the game, but don’t waste too much time on the forums.
Best MMO I’ve ever played
…inside the Labyrinth is nothing short of brilliant! Very much enjoying the show, ty

I love when players like this expose themselves so I can add them to my block list
Looking around at the thousands of players I see every day I’d say the game is a smashing success.
“Expansions are definitely something that we’ll potentially look at in the future,” game director Colin Johanson told IGN. “We don’t have a timetable on it. We’re open to it, but I think our major focus as a studio is making the living world concept as strong as we possibly can for the players that we’ve got.”
When the possibility of Guild Wars 3 was broached, Johanson deemed it unlikely, at least for now. “We want to be able to have teams that are literally developing new, innovative features that change the way that you play our game and grow that experience so it literally feels like you don’t leave Guild Wars 2,” he explained. “Guild Wars 2 becomes Guild Wars 2.5 or Guild Wars 3 and it continues to grow.”
I like!
The patch notes clearly state extra achievement points (which is what we get).
Players can locate a handful of kite baskets at the top of several jumping puzzles throughout Tyria and open them for extra achievement points.

Let’s do some simple math.
3 million players, 51 servers, boss that drops fat loot in zone that holds less than 500 people…..
Guesting is not the issue here.
Same problem here, also seeing reports of players not able to purchase gems.

Magic is an important force in the world of Guild Wars 2. It is presented as a supernatural power that can be controlled by certain individuals, and is split up into four “schools”: Preservation, Destruction, Aggression, and Denial. Most magic users must commit to a single school – it is impossible to utilize magic to its full extent without cooperation.
Magic is practiced mainly by scholars of all races, as well as being an integral part of asura society. The charr regard magic with suspicion and are distrustful of magic users, even within their own ranks.
I just ignore the shrieking harpies. GW2 could give them every little thing their heart desires, design the game down to the last pixel just for them and they would still howl.
There is no pleasing or reasoning with them.
Colin Johanson stated that GW2 has more players in WvW alone in any given week than GW1 had in the entire game.
Custom arenas or WvW for dueling
I’ve told everyone I want gemcards for Christmas
Well done, Tolmos
Was chatting with a dev ingame this evening, he was saying tomorrow we would see epic battles and that was just the beginning.
I’m very excited!
Huh. Would have been nice to know it was considered an exploit, never would have put spendy runes and sigils in WvW badge gear nor encouraged others to get the WvW badge gear if I had known.

The giants you find in Orr are Risen and do not count as giants. The Brisban Wildlands “Broken Golem” event will spawn as many giants as there are players. I’ve done this with as many as 20 players, stack on the golem and the giants will spawn in a cluster on the other side, everyone rush in to tag them all.
Other than that, they are scattered around here and there.

For. There is a ruby colored gem in the handle of my scepter that I dearly would love to change.
I did hear a rumor recently that weapon dyes are coming, there was a dev discussion in game with players on TC within the last week or two and this was a topic that one of the players raised that a dev confirmed is being worked on.
I don’t recall ever getting 8 Quartz from a single harvest. Usually 3-4, with the very rare Charged Quartz.
Same, I get 3-4. Not sure if the world gathering bonus would apply to the Quartz node, I haven’t got a bonus gather on that one yet.
Also you don’t have to wait to gather all your quartz, OP. It’s not soulbound, you can buy it from other players on the Trading Post.
Human is great, busiest starter area in the game.
Thief or Guardian – both are excellent choices. You can try a fully geared max level character by going into the Heart of the Mists (crossed sword icon) where you are upleveled and have free access to all the gear/runes/abilities to see which playstyle you like better.
Blackgate is a Tier 1 server so should be great.
Welcome to the party – you’re in for quite a ride

Congratulations!
Much respect to ArenaNet for getting the servers up so quickly. I heard League of Legends was down for 10 hours by these idiots.
Thanks for working on the holidays for us <3
The hundreds of thousands of guilds out there beg to differ with you.
First thing, look at your keybinds. The default ones are pretty awkward for most people, you may want to change them.
Learn how to dodge effectively. In this game, avoiding damage is as important as dealing it.
The Deposit to Collectibles option on your inventory/bag puts all mats in your bank. You will need to go to your bank to withdraw them, but when you craft it automatically uses them so no need to withdraw unless you want to sell.
You can list things on the Trading Post from anywhere in game, only need to go to a TP when you want to pick things up.
Grab some gathering tools as soon as possible, just about anything you do in game gives you xp.
Think of Renown Hearts like breadcrumb quests, they lead you into an area but the dynamic events are the real meat of the game. Those npcs waving their arms and asking you for help aren’t there for flavor!
Don’t be shy about asking in mapchat for help or if you have a question. The ingame community is really friendly
Explore – there are hidden areas all over the place, behind waterfalls or bushes you can sometimes find jumping puzzles and even entire zones!
Take everything you know about previous MMOs and throw it out the window – this game is different, this game is FUN!
I’ll agree it’s nice to never fall behind, but if there are no goals left for you to achieve other than purely cosmetic stuff with the exact same stats, why go the extra mile?
I guess it comes down to what you think is the lesser of two evils. A gear grind, or lack of content.
I prefer having the whole game still being current content than being limited to the last raid or couple dungeons at the end of a tier with the rest of the game obsolete at end game.
You can work on solely cosmetic items if you wish, I’m building different gear sets for different builds, tweaking them with sidegrades to min/max their effectiveness.
OP, there is:
Dungeons (25 different dungeon paths)
Fractals (which level to infinity)
Dynamic Events (3000+ events in the game)
WvW (build an army or support your server)
PvP (6 maps, another one coming today)
Exploration (find all the hidden items/places/events)
Achievements & titles
Legendary weapons (will always be BIS, will never get replaced on the next tier of a treadmill)
Of course there is the standard alt leveling/craft leveling, mini-games, etc.
And Guild Missions are coming today.

There is more to do in this game than any other MMO I’ve ever played.
There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas
The trouble with the maples
(And they’re quite convinced they’re right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light
But the oaks can’t help their feelings
If they like the way they’re made
And they wonder why the maples
Can’t be happy in their shade
There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the maples scream ‘Oppression!’
And the oaks just shake their heads
So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights
‘The oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light’
Now there’s no more oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, AXE and saw!

Take the commercial elsewhere, not interested.
Oh, and pass this on for me woulda, OP?
They always give notice when there will be a maintenance. This will be like any other normal patch: log out, download, login
(why can’t other games figure this out?)
Not interested in gear treadmill games where every couple months everything I’ve worked for becomes garbage and I have to start acquiring new gear all over again. No thanks, been there done that got the T-shirt. There’s plenty of those kinds of games on the market if that’s what you like.
I prefer getting better at my game, not my gear getting “stronger” (which is fake anyway since those kinds of games increase the monster’s and player’s health).
We must woo them with cat.gifs – it’s the only way!
