Any map not infected by megaserver?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I fail to see how this is a bad thing

There is a difference between ‘populated’ and ‘Tokyo overcrowded’, you know. Anet does not, apparently.

I’ve been to Tokyo and I can say that it doesn’t even nearly feel as overcrowded as Moscow simply because the infrastructure is superior.

The point of my analogy: if ANet managed players distribution as effectively as Tokyo does (by sorting languages, grouping guilds, maintaining server population, randomising boss events), then it wouldn’t have ever felt “overcrowded” even if it was.

  1. You are unhappy because others can now get something “cheaper” than you. Instead of being happy for others, you get mad because you can no longer be a “special snowflake”. I think that’s egoism (sorry) and I do not approve of it.
  2. As stated in similar situations many times before, you grinded to have it then, before everyone else. You had that advantage and used it for some time. It’s like getting a new smartphone now when it just got released and is more expensive, and not when it gets on sale. Or like buying GW2 on a 25 dollar sale and with a free gemstore skin set – would you be willing to scrap your account at the moment for this “advantage”? No.
  3. A lot of people still craft multiple sets of identical gear (or buy identical Salvage-o-matics, gathering tools…) for the convenience of using it on multiple characters. You already have that convenience.
  4. No one knows what ANet gonna do with ascended in the future. It can work as precursor for legendary gear, it can receive switchable stats and runes via craftable upgrades for further horizontal progression.

"Play How I Want" Is Gone

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lishtenbird.2814

As a side note, everybody is perfectly welcome to dislike the changes ArenaNet has made and the direction they are taking. I count myself among you! I think we need more 5-man instanced challenging content in this game…

…but you don’t get to pretend that a blog post from Colin in January 2013 somehow justifies every minor quibble you have with the game.

It’s not a betrayal. It’s just changes you don’t like. Get a grip.

That is, very accurately and specifically, what he meant. You’re welcome to pervert it to mean that “you can run world bosses with just 3-5 people” if you like, but that doesn’t mean anybody else will take you seriously.

That’s why this part is right there, in the OP after the quote:

Of course it’s not only about “most powerful rewards” (even if enjoyment is the best reward you can get from a game), but about the overall feeling of freedom the game had – which definitely existed and which is the reason “Play How I Want” quote became so popular and went far beyond the meaning of “get BiS gear anywhere” in the community.

You may deny it and stick to the formal reading (because it easier to argue on), but instead look around at what people have been repeatedly saying for the last year in multiple threads, which is summarised in this thread and +1ed many times (including the “starred thumbs up” icon which posts now rarely ever get). The game screamed “play how I want” and “freedom” back then, and now it screams “fool-proof”, “gated”, “spoonfed”. The change may be to your liking, but the change is there and tangible.

I wonder, if I rename the thread to “Freedom Is Gone”, will people still find a way to argue on why “freedom” is a misused word, instead of looking at the problem it describes?

So instead of actually coming up with an argument, you link a comment from a red poster that is completely irrelevant to my post?

If you are going to complain about stuff, at least be ready to argue for why it is wrong/right or should be change.

Sorry, but I’m can’t take your over-exaggerated strawman (which has already been answered tens of times if you care to read this thread and the dailies thread) seriously. I’ve replied to arguments and will be replying to (new) arguments. But I’m not going to waste time on playing that favourite “I miss the point completely, honestly!” forum game of yours, sorry; I can suggest playing my “quote random red post in reply” game, though, since it might be fun and would make just as much sense

Greetings Listenbird,

You’ve outlined many of the changes that I would say were a step back for Guild Wars 2.

Stand above the vocal posters who continue to state their opinion over and over. It’s been quite obvious for some time that they only intent to belittle disgruntled players into thinking they are “wrong”, even though it’s entirely subjective.

Thanks for support and thanks for reading

Is it possible to get a keybind for toggling autotargeting on and off? It will be especially useful when switching between classes that have a lot of movement skills (and attack without a target), and those that require a target for most skills; or even when doing different things on a single class.

[Suggestion] Armor Skin Designs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lishtenbird.2814

It doesn’t really fit the GW2 aesthetic. Something more along the lines of human T3 heavy would be better.

With the amount of “omg this design is [kitten equivalent here]” and “another awful armour” comments out there, I do not really think that keeping on with things that fit the GW2 aesthetic is an undoubtedly good thing.

So maybe shifting the general style of new armours a bit could be refreshing, as we still have the Canthan region as a perfect excuse for more Asian-themed designs. And these, though I am not an expert in GW1, make far more sense then an American Marvel superhero Zodiac armour.

Ogden part 3: Unfriendly for Mesmer

in Living World

Lishtenbird.2814

I wasted a lot of time on this boss. I had two major problems:

1) I was basically left with GS3 and close-range auto, or rather sword 2 and sword auto for attacking when attuned. It was slow. It was boring. It was frustrating. It increased the chance of making a mistake and having to start over (which I had to twice).

2) You can’t blink past the beams! If you try, you get bumped mid-way… and thrown into the AoE. And die and start over. So the mobility skill which most mesmers use can become fatal.

This is not the first time when mesmers have been left aside: IIRC, the attunement achievement during fight on the Breachmaker suffered from the same problem, and the Nochtli achievement in Dry Top too. Do ANet developers test these things on mesmers? Are we so few that it’s not worth fixing something in PvE for a single minor class?

Well not complete. Underwater breaze is still ignored by the clones and if your outfit has an hat and you turn it off at your charakter the clones still wearing the hat, even if turned off at costumes. If there is something similar with the shoulders if you turn them off, I not tested.

I noticed today in pvp my clones wearing a hat but my chars has none. So the bugfix is just done about 95%. And don’t forget aqua helms still not work !!

It’s good someone tested it. I saw clones wearing outfits (the one and only Ancestral) and had no idea they overlooked the rest of the problems.

At least since it wasn’t mentioned in the patch notes, I believe they’re still working on it.

kitten , I knew it was too good to be true… lol

Meanwhile, pretty sure this wasn’t intended:

Can pretty much can shut down the whole boss.

So basically, unreflectable attacks are unreflectable, but not undestroyable, and untraited Wardens are more useful than traited? IIRC the same thing happened with Wurm.

Looks like ANet is in need of an overhaul of the whole projectile-destroy-reflect system.

[Suggestion] Mounts and Combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Requesting merge with https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Mounts-merged

My summary of the previous 100500 “mount” threads if you’re interested:

[~] Threads for reference:

[+] Arguments in favour:

  • That other game has it; we’ve seen it done there and enjoyed it.
  • Aesthetics: mounts are cool. Riding a mount is another pleasant experience which a videogame can give to a player who lives in real life. You can use existing animals and even create new ones – that’s a base for new content.
  • Speed: you can travel faster. You can use waypoints if you like, or mounts if you like the experience.
  • Progression: buying and upgrading mounts gives you stuff to do, and more stuff to do is what this game needs.
  • Flying mounts are even more fun then terrestrial mounts. Flying mounts will make exploring Tyria easier and more enjoyable. Flying mounts will let you look at Tyria from a new angle.
  • Since underwater combat exists in GW2 (same z-axis gameplay) and Tengu are still to make their move, a map with flying mounts makes sense.
  • Mounts could be constrained to a single map, similar to Dry Top, or exist as a PvP-style activity.

[-] Arguments against:

  • GW2 is not that other game and was not designed with mounts in mind. That’s why we feel mounts do not belong here, and adding them will feel forced (“added because others have it”, not “added because we needed them”).
  • Aesthetics: mounts will look silly with GW2 races and animals (giant norn on a pink moa). Mounts will make GW2 even less serious and more visually annoying than Moot, Quip and pink unicorn bows. Mounts will contribute to visual clutter.
  • We already have cosmetic mounts: broom, carpet, sonic device. We already have a minor speed “mount”: the Dry Top kites.
  • Speed: waypoints are superior in terms of traveling. Maps are small enough to even travel by foot. We already have mobility skills and speed boosters for that.
  • Progression: the game was advertised as having (next to no) gear grind, and people love it for that reason. Introducing mounts as an obligatory item (“grind for it or you lose”) will cause the same uproar as ascended armour.
  • Like jumping would ruin a game designed with no jumping in mind, flying mounts will ruin GW2 maps (for example, think about jumping puzzles, or vistas on mountains, or easily traversing areas which are supposed to be filled with foes). Furthermore, maps were designed to look cool from the ground, not from above; you can see how many problems flying mounts will bring into map design by googling off-map videos and looking at the map attentively.
  • Things like mounts will require a lot of development resources to adapt to all races and body types; clipping will be a very serious issue, too. These resources could be spent elsewhere.

[=] Current state of affairs:

  • Most “mount” threads are met with negativity (and a gif of a jokey beating a dead horse), because this topic has been discussed countless times. Still, new “mount” threads appear every now and then, showing that there are players who are actively wanting to discuss the addition of mounts.
  • New “mount” threads are known to be closed with the reasoning of numerous threads on the subject already existing:

This suggestion has already been made. Please refer to the threads in the suggestions subforum on this topic for the discussion. Thanks for yout understanding. This thread is closed

This topic has been widely discussed here already and there are still threads popping out in the Suggestion subforum from time to time so we would kindly request you to search for them and contribute with your thoughts there in order to avoid duplicates of the same topic.

As numerous threads regarding this topic have already been linked, we’ll close this thread and request that you point your discussions over to them.

Hey there, as others pointed out, there are quite a number of threads on mounts already. Please use one of these existing ones to add to the discussion.

Since there is a number of threads on the subject already, this one is now closed.

  • If you were unable to understand the “go to yellow star”, “spam weapon skills”, “collect rewards” mechanics of the LS1 without speaking to other players, that is not a problem with LS. Maybe you should move to an easier game with less text (or text in your native language).

GW2 Female Armour [Poll]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

You should also put an option for: “I like both styles and would love to have more choices for both.”

I think “Everything is fine and we have enough options for both.” is pretty much this. As new armour is added anyway, it just tells that the proportion is fine.

Not really, I like both, but … we definitely have more skimpy than non skimpy

No, we don’t:

I like skimpy but I think we should have more non-skimpy now. We got enough of one, let’s bring the other up to par.

We have 15 Skimpy vs 27 Non-skimpy female light armors. We have ~5 skimpy vs 37 Non-skimpy female Medium armors(But a lot more low-cut tops). We have 9 skimpy vs 33 non-skimpy female heavy armors (Unfortunately, all faction armors are skimpy).

We have 5 skimpy vs. 37 non-skimpy male light armors. We have 0(!) skimpy vs 42 non-skimpy male medium armors. We have 5 skimpy vs. 37 non-skimpy male heavy armors.

I considered any armor that exposes any part of the torso (Other than neckline) or legs to be ‘skimpy’ for the purpose of this examination, which means a lot of armors that are ‘skimpy’ still cover a significant amount of the body.

Yes, there’s an imbalance and one side needs to be brought up to par with the other. It’s not the non-skimpy side, though.

The problems can be:

a) most non-skimpy armour looks the same,
b) many players prefer skimpy armour, and because options are limited, they wear the same things and it looks like there’s too much skimpy armour.

Both are perception problems which do not correspond to the actual data.

I wonder how you missed Megaservers…

You never know on which instance you will land before loading into the map anymore with Megaservers, so you never know if the waypoint will or will not be contested.

Between April 15 and a recent patch, all contestable waypoints were always contested (or were supposed to be unless bugged), and you had to manually port 2nd time to the waypoint which was actually opened 99% of the time.

Now, you can choose any waypoint, but if it appears to be contested when you loaded in, you will be redirected automatically. The new system is better.

Not a bug.

"Play How I Want" Is Gone

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

this system is superior for people who wanted to get the maximum amount of AP but didn’t want to leave PVE.

I am glad that this 1% will now be a lot happier than the other 90% of casual PvEers who were getting 5-8 AP daily in the old system just for playing the game and without wasting any time on pet tricks. That’s a great way to retain players, I agree.

/sarcasm

Proof of numbers, please.

  • Rank 1-100: 26500AP – 25100AP
  • Rank 100-1000: 25100AP – 21750AP
  • Rank 90%: 21750AP – 4130AP
  • Rank 50%: 850AP

https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/eu/achievements/

Even if dead-set AP hunters are more than 1% of population, they’re a clear minority.

people who wanted to get the maximum amount of AP but didn’t want to leave PVE.

How do those numbers represent that? Those numbers don’t appear to include anything about where or how any given person plays, or what their desire is as far as daily APs.

What does, if not these numbers?

As of 2013, around 860,000 were active players. Top 1000 (1/9th of a percent) has AP from 25100AP to 21750AP – quite a gap. Only 10% of all registered players have more than 4100AP. 50% have less than 850AP. Let’s use common sense: how many dead-set AP hunters at all can there be? A handful, that’s it. Several percent. Now subtract the AP hunters who didn’t want to ever go to PvE – a subset within a subset. So why do global changes which affect all players should be focused on the comfort of a definite minority?

You don’t like the dailies, so you’ll attempt to discredit anyone defending them.

On a more serious note: yes, I hate the new dailies, but what I’ve grown to hate even more is the attitude with which dissent is answered again and again:

“Oh stop whining, you get your laurels for just logging in now.”

I don’t attempt to discredit anyone in particular, I just try to destroy that insulting counterargument, tooth and nail if I have to.

Exactly. I can understand why such changes are made; I can see what can be improved and I ain’t really mad at ANet; who I’m mad at are players willing to defend the changes which suit only them with sadistic pleasure.

Edited title from: “ArenaNet punishes every existing player.”

When you buy jeans, and the store puts them on sale the next month, do you accuse them of “hating” you? Is that “slapping every single” shopper?

Every seller of any kind of merchandise — from games to jeans to automobiles to burgers — runs limited-time promotions. Those who purchased three months ago had the advantage of playing the game for three months, of leveling characters, of attending the Halloween and Lost Shores event, getting more drops, earning more gold, maybe getting early access or special items with the release products… and on and on. Those coming along later will never be able to go back in time to do those things.

So while I understand you would like to have the lower price, I think you should recognize that you have gained advantages with your earlier purchase.

This is for new accounts.

Don’t forget, those who purchased previously had other opportunities: Beta access, Head-start access, digital items, the post-trial offer, event participation, etc. With each promotion there are different incentives.

How Can ANet Improve Average Player Skills

/buffs Lilith Ajit with Protection and Aegis for grape justice

Mad Queen Malafide, kimeekat, I see how you dislike things like insta-kills, but I think you’re missing the point here – It’s not about surprise punishment, it’s actually that I want people to be told what to do to succeed and then for them to perform it with a punishment if they don’t.

Imagine the following:

  • In burning LA, not far from the entrance, you see an order NPC who beckons to you and asks for your help.
  • When you talk to it, he tells you: “I need an item from this cave, but Twisted Hammerguards are guarding it. They will down you instantly with their hammer smash, so dodge those in order to get past them. Don’t worry, I’ll teleport you back to the entrance if you die, and I’ll reward you if you bring me the item!”
  • You get into the cave, and on your way you face several times Twisted Hammerguards and dodge their attacks.
  • You get the item, go back, get a reward from NPC and an achievement point from the Living Story list.

Now you should agree that it’s not a “20 page pass/fail essay”, but rather a “let’s draw a pretty V letter, and you get a cake if you succeed but you don’t get to draw W, X, Y and Z if you fail”

Since LS is temporary, I do agree that something like a skillpoint or a quest near the very starting location for each race may be better. Some kind of brute in Queensdale may be an equivalent of this Twisted Hammerguard. Next to it can stand a condition-only affected monster, a condition-casting monster etc. However I would still prefer that these “quests”, even though ultimately simple to an alt-creator, become obligatory to new players.

If someone needs to use food, why not say something like “If you use (insert food here) then you’ll add DPS blahblahblah…” instead of “You should be using food, nub!” Maybe send them one so they can try it for themselves?

I used to put a feast of Orrian Steaks before the Mario fight and telling people to it; only about 1/3 did (and no, they didn’t have their own batter food). I linked “+% downed health” food for melee zerkers who get downed easily; we still failed. I give a food reminder for Scarlet’s potion before the knights fight. Other players also do it, but often it still doesn’t help. Before the Teq fight with PSDH, I sent an Undead slaying potion to party members. Will it help? I hope so, but at one moment in future I know I will be too tired to do it for the 100th time. If NPCs did it instead of me every now and then – it would’ve helped.

How about explaining to a new person how the rally system works? or when to dodge in a given situation?

That’s what many people currently do at these events – “dodge the large orange aoe when it fades”, “condition phase now [Condition Crash]”, “watch out for menders” etc. I’ve done Scarlet’s Holo fight numerous times now, and I don’t think I remember a fail; either me or other people try to describe what to do at each phase, and miracle or not, our platform often succeeds faster than others.

I don’t really care about all the exact stats. If I can do the content I am fine, it’s just not something I care much about. And food, I almost never used ‘foods’ in any game. I have always seen it as a form of cheating.

Whatever your reasons are, please use potions and food, at least the cheapest ones (general level 80 is mostly dirt cheap) during global events where every hero counts (like Knights, Tequatl etc.) It hurts so much to be 5 seconds short of defeating the last knight. When soloing, of course, it’s completely up to you.

On topic: The game aims to please casuals because they are the ones who turn the most profit. Casuals log in for short periods and so consume content slower but are more willing to spend cash on gems because they will not [grind champion trains / speed run dungeons / farm material nodes / play the TP / perform other profitable but boring activity] and instead just want to jump right into the “fun” stuff.

But… you never know. As I said in another thread, I’m firmly inclined to think that loyal fanbase provides more long-term support than casuals who tend to switch games instead of mastering them.

GW2 Stealth

Thieves built around stealth are a cowards class.

I haven’t written this on the forum ever and I hope I never will again, but: LOL.

If they fix this I hope stealth get’s a nerf on the graphics. With that I mean stealth should not make you invisible but more like Predator invisible. Stand still and you blend in to the background, move and you will have a harder time to blend in. Target will still not be able to be targeted and channelings will loose the target but if the players has a keen eye he/she can se the enemy and track him/her.

Similar to the way friendly stealthed players are displayed. I always liked this concept and even thought of traits which could make it work; I think this is a nice concept, but I’m afraid at this stage it may result in a massive outrage.

Events like the Maw often have way too many people. Shatterer and Jormag often have too few. Consolidating maps and then making additional instances as needed may solve both of these problems.

On the contrary. It will join maps to create instances with +225% population density and turn every single world boss on a timer into a megablob.

Why create a separate thread? We already have this one and this one, it will get merged at best.

Lishtenbird.2814

I’ll just quote myself from another thread:

I’m amazed at how short-sighted many people are: they’re happy at making other players suffer without understanding that those people were the ones who made their life easier by repeating monotonous task which the first players wouldn’t have to do. It’s like being happy at a limit of those dirty lousy yardmen – before seeing that they’ll have to pick up all the trash themselves now.

Fasalina, Nerelith and others who admit they haven’t studied economics, here’s a Wiki image.

The image shows an increase in supply – the price drops. When supply decreases, the price increases.

  • Let’s say we had 100 players who needed 1 charged lodestone per week each, which makes 100 lodestones per week.
  • We had 10 farmers who farmed 10 lodestones per week each, which makes 100 lodestones per week.
  • Let’s say the price got an equilibrium at around 2g.
  • After patch, we still have 100 players who need 1 charged lodestone per week each, which makes 100 lodestones per week – nothing changed.
  • After patch, the 10 farmers can only farm 5 lodestones per week.
  • When the first 50 lodestones at 2g are sold, the other 50 players still need 50 more lodestones.
  • Because they need these lodestones but can’t get them, they offer more for these lodestones – let’s say up to 4g per lodestone.
  • 10 other non-farmers see that the offers for lodestones got higher and decide to go farming.
  • Now we have 20 people farming instead of 10 people to provide enough supply of 100 lodestones per week, while players pay more for the exact same lodestones because otherwise the farmers will stop farming.

Result of the train-nerf which you’re so happy about? More people have to grind, more casual players suffer from an increase in prices. Both sides become unhappy (and eventually leave the game).

…and let’s not forget that world boss trains for ecto and Orr event farming for T6 also got nerfed.

How to make the Marionette into a Fractal

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

I second a boss fractal adaptation. A single lane, 1-2 minute defense – champ 1 -> 1-2 minute defense -> champ 2 … -> champ 5 -> Marionette dismissed. The story itself fits perfectly in the concept of fractals.

Some background fighting noise to imitate the scale while in the lane, just like in Charr fractal. Mobs “fighting” other champs on other 4 platforms. Cutscenes.

There would be sufficient epicness and an interesting gameplay. The best thing about adding it is that the mechanics are already coded and all the graphics are present as well.

No No No.. Part of the fun of this encounter is waiting outside feeling anxious if the group inside will actually pull it off! And looking helplessly at other platforms wondering if they will pull it off… You can never simulate this in the fractals (simulator)

Some minor tweaking will make it available for new players later, while keeping the whole boss as a permanent event is not viable: we’ll be able to get so many people together only during this release and it will stay Tequatl all the other time. Which one would you prefer: sacrificing the “feeling” or sacrificing the whole event?

On the sidenote, I’d be happy to see Tower of Nightmares in fractals as well. Some zerging through the third level plus Toxic Hybrid.

If the “formal reading” – the actual meaning, not the one you made up – is “easier to argue on,” I assume that means I’m right.

By reading the comments as stated, my point stands.

By reading the comments based on years worth of forum-poster reimaginings, your point stands.

I’m happy with that assessment.

I’m quite happy with having that assessment as well. Some people see it this way, others extrapolate it and see it that way. The first are right because it is what was said, the second are right because it is what people felt and saw making sense; they had a cool quote which matched the gist and labeled it.

Thus I would also be happy if people actually argued on the “freedom” in question itself rather than whether they agree on the other side’s reimagination or not.

Blast Combo Finisher for Mind Stab

You’re all making a big deal about something that was implemented because the playerbase asked for. Now youre complaining on how they did it.

Surprise: “you” who asked and “you” who complained can be two different people. They can also be the same person, but unhappy that a requested feature rendered a previously useable feature highly inconvenient.

I’m sick and tired of the modern “intuitive” UIs in the programs I paid for and use every day which suck out my time because they want it “pretty” and never tried to use it themselves on a daily basis. So no, I’m not eating silently every inefficient UI improvement anymore.

Which is why Anet listened to the playerbase, added extra gear and then got raged upon.

Yeah, it’s outrageous to completely block all character builds behi… Oh wait, I love it because those +4.7% are optional while giving a sense of progression.

A car may be an effective way to get from Point A to Point B, but not a fun way.

A horse gallops and canters, a horse will jump over obstacles, a horse will also be a second set of eyes alert for danger. A Horse is a companion…. a car is a tool.

I’ve got enough of unreliable annoying “companions” in real life. I want a reliable tool which entertains me in exchange for money, and not decides to disallow me to use a part of it unless I buy it more hay, or leaves me without race rewards because doctors gave it something bad (when others asked them to be careful) and then left on their spring holidays.

Clearly Arenanet don’t care about players gaming experience since this message spam being around for months now and forum community is just joke to some
—-
I wasn’t looking for help here. I was trying to make a statement:

It is plain WRONG to flash player message every 30 seconds. Doesn’t matter they have item with or without stats!

We’re trying to make a statement as well: ANet is caring for its players and even knows how many players still don’t have their trait points set, and this is the precise reason why they flash this message: because no one would want to underperform every day of their game because of a single accidentally clicked away reminder.

I’m trying not to be rude, but equipping an item with no stats selected is not only absurd but also harmful to other players in open-world events like Marionette, Wurm and Tequatl. Misquoting your own message, “it is plain WRONG to equip an item which does nothing” (:

This community has certainly changed for the worse in some aspects.
2012 had it better, with less restrictive mindsets and a more casual attitude.
More openness to the individual, rather than adherence to a certain Batman quote.

When everyone is level 35 masterwork, no one complains about full exotic zerk level 80s. What a surprise

Honestly.. is that your response?

Yes, this is my response. “Honestly.” Because, you know, people who have been in the game for 2 weeks have more in common with other people who have been in the game for 2 weeks, compared to people who have been in the game for 2 years with other people who have been in the game for 2 weeks and still fail to read LFG description, let alone check Wiki, forum, Dulfy and Youtube to see what the best practices developed over that time are (and developed with a sole purpose of replacing the time consuming and frustration causing “less restrictive mindsets and a more casual attitude” from the times when people didn’t know any better with something that makes life easier).

I don’t think there’s a point in having a forum about anything filled purely with posts about how good that thing is.

[Sugg.] Convert Dungeon XP Into Consumable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Since we now have consumables with experience which we can pass to alts, I would like to suggest converting the +70% experience from clearing a dungeon into a consumable.

Switching characters at dungeon ending is an efficient, yet annoying method for both the switcher and the party:

  • the switcher has to leave during/before the final fight,
  • parties have to either bear with the switching or be rude and ask others not to switch,
  • it’s preferable that someone watches the ending cutscene so that the switcher has enough time to load,
  • the switcher needs to have a fast PC to load in time,
  • it’s possible to miss the reward.

In before “switching character is an exploit”: no, according to forum defenders, such things should be treated as parts of “knowledge” about the game, and not “exploits”.

[Suggestion] Achievements on first run.

in Living World

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

I’ve posted about it earlier and I still think we should be able to get the achievements on first run.

Why is it good?

  • You get a very positive experience for doing something “right” without knowing it.
  • You get a very negative experience for seeing you’ve done something “right” straight away but you have to do it again because something wasn’t “unlocked”.
  • Replaying stories for achievements is boring, and sometimes even frustrating. Especially if you have 1 of 3 but have to listen to all the unskippable dialogues and to click through all the text and then grind trash mobs again to advance to the important part. It feels like a time sink, even if it’s a minor one, and I see no point in it in a B2P no-sub game.
  • People who prefer to use guides will not be forced to play the same story (about which they’ve read already and obviously do not care) once again.

At the moment, I do not feel like replaying instances is fun. If you already replayed the story with an alt to get a different perspective, it’s doubly so. Mind you, I’m not opposed to doing “hard” things or whatever; I just don’t like doing things several times with the only reason behind it being time sink, an artificially increased perception of the amount of time required to clear new content.

Map Completion & WvW - why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

To whoever presents the “I am a WvW player and have to do PvE, so eat it!” argument:

it’s hypocrisy.

You know you’ve bought a game of at least 92% cooperative PvE, so if you were so interested in open world PvP that you kept playing the same 2 WvW maps for more than 2 years, then probably you should’ve bought a PvP game in the first place instead of complaining that “you have to do PvE stuff”. You know, it’s like coming to a steak house and saying “Geez, I have to eat meat here if I want a full dinner!”.

The game was and is advertised as friendly, cooperative and casual, and WvW map completion is nothing more than a forced method of making people go to WvW.
