Suggestion: player camera improvements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Getting really dizzy with the new camera (posted about it here). Tweaked the settings – no, same stuff…

I have a feeling that the point in space around which the camera rotates is somewhere behind the character now; might it be the case, or it’s just the FoV? If not, are the “reset to defaults” values identical to the old camera?

Irrelevant to useful feedback: Apart from that – walked around DR and the Grove with first person camera – so much gorgeous stuff I couldn’t see before! If only we could get a high-res texture pack now…

What with those knockbacks?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

I’ve learned to dislike rangers particularly in Dry Top, especially during the Haze event. On my guardian, I’m already used to casting and reserving the GS pull until some ranger knockbacks a mob, so that I can rapidly pull it back to where melee classes were stacking. And then I’ve learned to hate rangers when leveling my warrior.

Maybe it’s time to nerf the knockback range of that skill. Interrupt is fine, the distance is not.

Not just Rangers, Mesmer do this too, well anything with a knock back skill.

Mesmers usually do it when mobs get close to them, not pew-pewing from range just for the sake of pushing a button. Sometimes it happens on reflex when your zerker is getting overwhelmed by mobs :<

Do yourself a favour and position yourself next to one of these spots and wait and watch. I once did. There were players (downscaled and in guilds, so they might not be all that new to the game) who ran in and were bumped back 5, 8, 10 times in a row without even considering what might be the cause. I first thought that they were on auto-run, but they really attempted this chest from different angles, completely ignoring the main reason for this event to even exist.

Hope it wasn’t me When waiting for guild events to begin, I sometimes find it fun to keep being knockbacked at these tutorials and to scream something like “Too confusing! Please nerf!”

Feedback/Questions: The Megaserver System: World Bosses and Events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Eeeeehh…

Nope. By “dead weight” I mean players who’re contributing to the event as much as if they were dead bodies; another poster once described them as “20 AFK players hidden on the bottom of a lake”. And by no means “randoms” or “casuals” who’re trying to enjoy the event at their best are a “dead weight”.

There is more than just the one event taking place in any given zone/map. It does not do your position any good to insult or negatively label people who may very well be in the zone playing the game as intended by pursuing hearts or other events. It creates the impression that you believe that you have a monopoly on the, “right way,” to play the game and that anyone who does not play as you do is deserving of scorn and ridicule.

I am not saying that this is intended, but thought you might want to know how it comes across.

I’m perfectly aware of it (and I even have a whole thread about it); there’s “play how you want”, but that works both ways. 100 people want to slay Tequatl; 10 people want to do hearts; 10 people want to forget their chars at waypoint and go watch TV. 20 people “play how they want”, 100 people “fail to play how they want” because of the first 20. Who is to blame for it?

ANet. For designing the boss to require a whole map of suboptimal players but introducing counter-productive goals and failing to provide ways to access it as an instance so everyone is happy.

Two Skills Share Cooldowns

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

This bug has been reported multiple times, but thanks to many clues on the forum, here’s a reproducible scenario and a video.

This bug consists of 2 parts. Part 1:

  • If you have a specific skill A in slot 7 underwater and slot it into slot 8 on terrain, that skill A will jump from slot 7 to slot 8 underwater as well, swapping places with skill B which was slotted in slot 8 before it. Works both ways, for terrain-water and water-terrain.

Part 2:

  • When you have skill A in underwater slot 7, and then cast skill B which is in terrain slot 7, and then slot skill A into terrain slot 8, the slot 8 will go onto the same cooldown as terrain slot 7. When you go underwater, you will see that it happened due to the part 1 of the bug, as skill A which was on cooldown underwater jumped from underwater slot 7 to underwater slot 8, and then triggered back a cooldown on the respective terrain slot.

That sounds confusing, but if you take a look at the video, it gets pretty simple. More on this bug: listed as #22 here, video, separate topic, video, mentioned here as #1. This has been reported by a developer to be a traited skill cooldown issue, but apparently it is not.

Solution:

  • All skills should stay in their respective places both underwater and on terrain, even if they’re the same skill.
  • If skill A is on cooldown in slot 7 on terrain, but is slotted underwater as 8, then slot 8 should be on cooldown underwater. Or it shouldn’t and slot 7 should, based on developers view of skill-slot concept, but under no circumstances should 2 slots go on cooldown.

I really hope this gets fixed in the feature patch. I like having my skills where they belong and not jumping around or going on dual cooldowns.

"Play How I Want" Is Gone

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

If you have no interest in resurrecting people, harvesting, etc. then the old system was still forcing you to go out of your norm to do something for achievement points.

Correction: for laurels, coins and BLTC items. You got AP straight away. But you were correct in saying that freedom was relative; but for those who are assumed to be the majority (PvE whatever-I-want-today players), that relativity was pretty much absolute.

As has been suggested, having best of the both worlds would be desirable:

  • letting AP hunters grind less,
  • letting longer-playing but specific-content people get larger but generic achievements naturally,
  • and letting everyone, especially ultra casual players, to get daily currencies for logging in.

Mordrem Wolves-not so scary anymore.

If Mordrem wolves would apply lets say 4 seconds of AoE Light Aura (maybe 4s to themselves and 2s to allies to prevent a pack from keeping it up for too long) and would be granted with a 100% boon duration increase, we would have a lot more options of counterplay.
We could interrupt the scream to negate the aura, we could stop attacking for a few seconds and let the aura go away without stacking retaliation or we could keep fighting and strip the retal once the aura fades off.

I am against of any non-removable buffs.

List of Mesmer Bugs (Older Thread)

Lishtenbird.2814

Hurray…they fixed tooltips.

But hey, the list is so long! One can’t say they aren’t working on our bugs, right, right? Ah, who am I kidding…

Incredible, another survivability key ability is gone: Mesmer was practically unplayable in zerg, now it is.

  • One broken blink which “teleports” you to current position in zerg = death, which happens, I think… 30% of time? 50% of time?
  • Getting stuck after survivability skills like phase retreat or blink bug out = death.
  • Not being able to distort through lines after broken blinks anymore = death.
  • Failed iLeap = high increase in chance of death.
  • Nerfed vigor = high increase in chance of death.
  • Phantasms not attacking gates = useless.
  • Constant “Obstructed!” = useless.
  • Targets constantly running away to “Out of range!” = useless.
  • One AoE weapon skill = poor tagging.
  • Illusions failing on invulnerable.
  • Temporal curtain not stacking swiftness – buy Traveler’s or go home. Chasing fleeing prey? Forget it.
  • Temporal curtain so low that its reflect is nearly useless.
  • Warden not attacking.
  • Warden reflecting damage to single target.

Hey, we still got veil and portal (without a range indicator)… which we can use if we do not need to slot in blink, condi removal and stability to survive, which obviously we do not as we wear heavy armour and have largest health pool and highest mobility.

I was (just) surprised that my character meant anything in a huge MMO and even gave orders. Not that it’s a really bad thing, but once again after the personal story you become THE hero in a fight which requires hundreds of people, and it’s a bit confusing.

And yeah, “Go on” was perfectly fine by me. It simply… feels natural in a videogame with limited space for dialogues, and it even saves time on reading the differently phrased “go ons”.

Whichever program/game/app I install, the first thing I do is go and check all the settings. It’s a one time thing and a great time saver for many different people who will have different settings, but most likely for a very long time.

Blade Shards are used in the Mystic Forge, so unless they were to implement a way to pull stuff out of the Wallet, those wouldn’t work in there.

Trade Box-trading alternative suggestion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lishtenbird.2814

My summary of the 1000 other P2P threads:

[+] Arguments in favour:

  • That other game has it; we’ve seen it done there and used it.
  • Adding it won’t hurt anyone, only help people who do not want to waste money on TP tax.
  • Direct trading will make people happier because the RNG factor of rare items will be a bit offset by easier acquisition.
  • Spamming should not be a problem: ANet can create a “trading” channel in chat to deal with spam.

[-] Arguments against:

  • That other game also has massive trading spam and out-of-whack economy.
  • It will hurt everyone. Gold sink is what keeps inflation low in game economies where gold is generated out of thin air; the Trading Post tax is that major gold sink. Remove the gold sink, and you’ll be the one crying about how everything is getting more and more expensive.
  • Any system which can be ignored, will be ignored. People will turn off the trading channel because of the WTB/WTS spam, and people will keep spamming in map/say/whisper chat. No matter what you do, real players will be hurt more than spammers (message suppression is already bad enough at organised world events).
  • The TP tax encourages you to play for your items yourself instead of buying them. It is good for the game community.
  • You are not disallowed to trade via mail – you’re just doing it at your own risk; mail trade frauds will be reviewed by Support and scammers will be suspended/banned, but the items/gold won’t be returned.

[=] Current state of affairs:

  • There is a considerable amount of people who think that player to player trading will hurt more than help.

Weapon Skins Going away!!

Lishtenbird.2814

Winter weapons did not make much sense outside of Wintersday, but I liked the Sclerite weapons for their blinking eyes and dripping goo; never used any, but still was happy to know they’re there and I can use them someday.

They probably need new tab space for the merchant for new skins to come. And taking the least popular ones out.

I have a general feeling that at this moment the “new ANet guys” do not have the tools to fix the systems built by the “old ANet guys”, so they have to build new things atop of old things – daily/monthly achievements merge with non-existent dailies being rewarded, inconsistent contested waypoints, broken teleport skills, 50 player loot limit per champ, and town clothes being examples, so I tend to agree that “we need more tabs so we have to remove old ones” sounds really plausible.

Another workaround could’ve been used though: just add another dialog option for “let me take a look at older skins”.

Builds Are Now Outfits: Bye Choice Hi Clones

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lishtenbird.2814

Although metabattle is not the only place to get builds it’s a good way to count builds before and after the trait change. There are now 16 meta/great/good Dungeon builds on metabattle, will there be more or less after the trait revamp? If there are more, then although we got less traits to choose from, the trait change actually helped with variety. If there are less, then there was indeed a reduction in viable choices.

Meta build before: get the maximum amount of optimal traits from 5 lines – and as little as possible of the useless stuff you’re forced to take in lower points.

Meta build soon: get the maximum amount of optimal traits from 3 lines (or 2 lines) – and as little as possible of the useless stuff you’re forced to take in lower and higher points.

Regardless, the non-meta builds will suffer way more. Like those designed for specific challenging encounters, for enjoyable PvE roaming, for map completion etc.

Targeting Still Broken Please Fix It!

I second most suggestions, especially:

  • auto-targeting only for reds and no yellow/whites (should be default, but may be an option)
  • option for prioritizing the heaviest mob in the camera cone (that Lyssa targeting with all the players around which even loses the Ctrl-T focus is such a pain in the axe…)

Another features I’d like to see:

  • auto-targeting mobs which are very close but behind camera (though that might be considered as exploiting common sense)
  • REAL termination of auto-attack on target change (I just hate attacking a random yellow moa after killing the enemy, or even worse, pulling a pack of wolves…); or possibly an option that goes as “Initiate auto-attack sequence only after auto-attack skill has been triggered by the player once for the specific target”
  • option to disable ally (green player/NPC) mouse selection while in combat (would really help in group events)

Exactly.

I come to GW2 website for info, content, promotions, links to articles and such, and I check Dev Tracker daily because I love creating things just as much as analyzing and discussing really beautiful things others managed to create.

However, it’s usually some good soul who cared to post a link to some interesting official site stuff which I manage to stumble upon in a weird corner of the forum, and not the GW2 team who delivers me the content which would keep me happy as a client (and willing to support you with money).

As a creator myself, I despise social networks for a particular reason, which is: they’re mainly a bunch of folks who want to become famous by stealing reposting other people’s works which were once uploaded to the perspective author’s websites. It is really a nice idea to repost content links in social media so that people who use it get a bridge, but forcing it to players is wrong.

I’ve seen a game with Facebook and Twitter integrated into the UI of a medieval-themed fantasy world… and I would never want to see it in GW2, please. The best advertising you can get from me is a direct word-of-mouth “Hey friend, just buy these game, it’s awesome and doesn’t suffer from X, Y and Z!” – which would happen when I see the game is awesome and doesn’t suffer from, say, P2W, infinite gear progression and integrated social networking.

"Play How I Want" Is Gone

I can see how misinterpreting/misquoting “Play How You Want” would lead you to believe that it is gone.

Especially since your fanciful made up version of the concept never existed.

It’s “Play how you want to get the best gear”, not “Play how you want and have all forms of rewards dumped into your character’s inventory”.

I’ll go add Colin’s words to the OP if it helps.

List of Mesmer Bugs (Older Thread)

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Since ANet started to fix things which were fine for two years but are now considered bugs, here’s another one:

  • Illusions do not inherit direct bonuses from runes/sigils such as +damage%, +critchance%, +damagevscreaturesoftype%, +damagedependingontime% etc.

Sady, the devs ignore this even on page1. :-(

This is the worst type of thread here.

If you close it, you will cause an uproar.

If you do not, it remains an eye sore and scares off new people who see classes with lots of broken mechanics, the community which is frustrated if not infuriated, and the total lack of communication from developers (and ubiquitous miscommunication when they do communicate).

There is just one thing which would actually solve the situation: fix these bugs and keep the community informed. Unfortunately, this option is not really an option as it requires work which has never had place in the plan.

Meh. This game really needs one “balance” dev per class. By “per class,” I mean actually plays; if not mains each class. Then, we might finally see some of this bug-cyclopedia bleeding dealt with.

This game is called “Guild Wars”, not “Guild Mess”. Go figure

6 Legendaries but no title?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

How is this an illogical decision? The title is meant to be a compensation for those who made the same legendary twice before the wardrobe update.

This.

You crafted 2 of the same legendaries – you get a title, 25 AP and a single legendary skin.

You crafted 2 different legendaries – you get two different legendary skins and are twice as cool to all the players as the guy next to you who made, say, dual legendary daggers.

If you ask me, then even 25 AP and a title is not worth losing 2000g. Even such a compensation is not enough, to say the truth, but it’s at least something done for these people and I think it was a nice move from ANet.

Fire Shaman HP Reset: Mystery Solved

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

After about an hour of testing popular theories (running over the lines and hitting shaman), I can now tell the community that HP reset is not caused by either of these things. I’ve primarily tested this during phase 2, but I’m pretty sure there should be no variations.

According to my observations, shaman’s HP resets when someone touches the invisible circle in the middle of the area, somewhat around where the large fire elemental appears and maybe a bit shifted towards the shaman: attachment 1 At some moment a NPC actually gives a hint and says “Keep to the minions!”

Triggering a reset by touching the area: attachment 2

Fire elemental area from different angles after being triggered by touching the area: attachment 3

So, the best strategy seems to be staying in the corner where the NPCs usually stand and not coming near the shaman as you may drag the NPCs with you and cause a reset (mesmer illusions and necro minions didn’t trigger the reset, ranger pets not tested but shouldn’t).

Particularly in GW2, higher power gear makes content easier, meaning those who want better gear are admitting they can’t play the game without the crutch of increased stats.
Those who have top-end gear want to feel superior than those without it, even though technically they’re not playing at the same skill-level.

In a nutshell.

Elitists are the worst players in the game.

I’m grinding for the BiS item because I like to have a goal in the game, and it’s pretty much endgame unless I have one. Does that +4.7% difference in stat really make me an elitist?..
