The logic of "Defiance"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Instead of having to get through 5 stacks of defiance then one CC, I would rather all CC goes through, but only has 1/5 the effect (and their skills are not interrupted and go on cd, but only delayed).

Or maybe something like that:

  • Each stack of Defiance gives you a 1/x chance of your CC to succeed.
  • If the skill fails, 1 stack of Defiance is removed.
  • If the skill succeeds, the stacks of Defiance are reset to the initial value.
  • The base amount of stacks may need to be increased (like, not 1+N of players, but 3 or 5+N of players, or N*coefficient+N).
  • Skills which cause bosses to move (pull, push, fear) may be turned into pure interrupts… but that’s a very tricky matter of balancing between disallowing rangers to knock bosses out of AoEs and allowing smart boss pulls.

PROs:

  • When all your team members use interrupts at the correct time, you have a good chance of interrupting. If all party members save multiple CC skills till the right moment, the interrupt is almost guaranteed.
  • Eliminates the punishment to the whole team when just 1 member spams a CC skill too soon and resets stacks to a huge number (Leech at Grenth as a good example).
  • It makes sense logically: “He may or may not be stunned if I’m lucky enough”.

CONs:

  • May be hard to find a spot where it works but not breaks and results in stunlocking.
  • Randomness is usually bad as it replaces coordination for a certain result with mindless spam for a chance of a result.

Nerf Lyssa?

Then that means you CAN’T JUST ZERG HER DOWN. Try getting the fight coordinated.

The problem is not with coordination. The problem is that AFTER the coordination, it simply scales so much that it takes too much DpS to kill regardless of what you do. Same as with other world bosses, by the way – the extremely long Inquest Golem or Frozen Maw as examples – but Lyssa gets the scaling to an extreme degree even if we ignore the champion monkeys thing.

tl;dr: buff all players, nerf all monsters, make gemstore free!

So that everyone can get their legendaries by the end of the week, and then ANet can safely shutdown the game because it went bankrupt. Sips his 10-dollar coffee while refusing to buy a skin for his alt.

No, seriously… There are several good ideas (which already have been discussed on the forums hundred of times, some with separate CDI threads), but mostly it’s the “I want the game even more casual and I don’t care if ANet employees starve to death” thread. QoL issues aside, many lifted restrictions will ruin the in-game economy and put the pay2lookspecial system at risk.

Instant level 80 gem item?

What’s the point of playing if you want an instant “I win” button?

If you buy an F1 car, do you win the races?

A level 80 is an instrument to play and enjoy – and win – content. Nothing more than it. By getting to level 80 you win nothing – it’s not something challenging to begin with, it’s simply time consuming. And by leveling to level 80 while not enjoying it, you actually lose.

There is only 1 big economy problem in this game and that is the gem store !

As long as they have their gem store , they will nerf every farming spot, you’ll keep getting meaningless loot, and every new update will be behind the gem store.

Might aswell login open the gem store and just play that game instead because that’s what they want. “We made a game for the players!”, Lol ! During that manifesto they should have phrased it "We made a store for the stupid :`) ! ".

FYI: if they remove gemstore, they’ll have to shut down this game after the Festival and fire all the staff.

Is There A Way To Get Into Overflows?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hey there, Piken neighbour! I also liked my home server a lot for it being “moderately high” population – enough to make most events which were worth it successful but in most cases not overcrowded and not overflowed (except for LS in peak hours). I could solo some things and zerg some things – but there was a balance for both, especially since I main a mesmer and tagging [invulnerable] mobs in large groups requires extreme timing.

Now I always get mixed in with some random Spanish, French and German players with their filters on and talking about their own business… I do not like feeling like I’m always in EoTM with a zerg from some other countries who do not even care if I’m here or not, if I can tag the mobs or not. It got more lonely than before. And heck, I’m missing some of my favourite world boss neigbours I never talked to but got used to, like that Italian fuchsia sylvari ranger with The Emperor title

Move Empowered Illusions to ILLU or INSPIR

in Mesmer

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Empowered Illusions is totally out of place in the Domination line.

Please consider moving it to Illusions or Inspiration lines.

  • Can be merged with Illusionary Inspiration in Inspiration. It’s fine since you either shatter and get shatter buffs, or do not shatter and get the phantasm buff. It may even be something like “Illusions deal more damage while Mind Wrack is not on CD” to separate the playstyles.
  • Can be merged with Compounding Power – damage modifiers for both sides, mesmer and illsuions. You might say “OP”, but really, how OP are phantasm builds now? =_=
  • Can be merged with Persistence of Memory since no one is going to ever take this trait to get that WHOPPING OP -2% DECREASE IN CD on shatter anyway.
  • Can be merged with Mind Wrack. Same as Illusionary Inspiration – it’s fine since you either shatter and get the bonus, or do not shatter and get the phantasm buff.

That way, PvE mesmers will be able to happily trait into Dueling, Illusions and Inspiration for better phantasm (+reflect) builds. This can also open options for PvP phantasm builds (which can’t be worse than turret engies, right?).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ArenaNet
“ArenaNet is a video game developer and subsidiary of NCsoft”

Every day you’re visiting guildwars2.com and not guildwars2.ncsoft.com and are talking to ArenaNet team, and have no idea what the real site of NCSoft is – ncsoft.com, or n-c-soft.com, or nc-soft.com, or nice-company-soft.com.

The reason why they’re doing it is gathering metrics – with these redirects they can easily tell which links were the most interesting ones and were clicked, as well as who clicked them (if all e-mails are different and contain your hashed user ID) – a veteran, a newcomer, a frequent gem purchaser etc. When used in a non-evil way, this can help identify the areas where community lacks information, and provide it, and by providing it make the game friendlier for everyone – both newbies and pros. Most likely, this is a universal system used for all games run and monitored by NCSoft.

The reason why we were panicking, though, is that it was not done by GW2 team as we know them – like, having links of guildwars2.com/redirect/%hash% sent from news@guildwars.com or news@arenanet.com, but from a company which most of the community have rarely ever heard of (or forgot already anyway).

At least we may finally have the things going now, as 2 years after release Chris Whiteside, ArenaNet Studio Design Director, the guy who advices everyone on how X and Y things should be done in the game,

Chris: I only ever use car analogies. Basically I’m essentially the customer for the group that is building the car. We work together to spec out what the car is. Then the team builds it and I give them my support and tell them how I think it’s doing from a design standpoint. Then we iterate on it and iterate on it so it handles really well and we win races. How about that?

has finally rolled a mesmer!

Chris: At the moment I am learning to play a mesmer, but my main is a Warrior, and he is a shout heal spec. 34,000 hit points, and all the good heals, and he is my favorite at the moment.

Chris: Yeah on Guild Wars 2 China, I have a level 11 Mesmer which is fresh today, and I’ve been learning to play her. This is the first time I have actually played with a female avatar in an MMO so I’m still getting used to that. It’s a little bit weird.

Chris: That’s right. I really wanted to pick a class that I know isn’t the easiest. It’s a cool class but it requires skill. Obviously I’ve had a lot of practice with a Warrior so I really wanted to go in with a class that I could at least to a certain extent be at the same level as other players in the world so I could get a feeling of how they were going through the content.

  • The right-click alternative to /join Username command.
    • With megaservers implemented, we have to taxi guildies very often.
    • “Invite to party” causes problems when several people invite to party. Instead, we need to tell people to “Join party”, which works unreliably, especially with several people doing it together, or does not appear when a party hasn’t been formed yet.
    • Many nicknames have characters which cannot be easily typed with another player’s keyboard layout (accents), or are difficult to spell. Looking for the account name instead is annoying and requires extra time.
  • Character-specific “Auto targeting” setting.
    • Auto targeting is very convenient for some classes like mesmer which requires almost everything to be targeted.
    • Auto targeting is very inconvenient for some classes which use untargeted leaps and rushes.
    • Switching between these settings each time you switch alts and remembering whether it’s on or off after your last session is a pain.
  • Split guild kick/invite permissions.

Allow 2nd set of weapon for ele/engi ooc ?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

they should have implemented ooc weapon swapping to the hero ui, like an easy way, from the beginning.

Probably as a part of a multi-build system with armor and weapon slots and trait templates. I’m so tired of switching everything each time I switch PvE/WvW/PvP, and with the new PvE weapons in PvP it just got more annoying.

And i’m all for it .. it plain sucks if i use a staff and want to change to Scepter/Dagger and after that there is a free space in my invisible bag, so that i have to fill it with salvage kit or any other junk that i can’t sale for accident, and when i want to change again i first have again to move that into a normal bag, so that i have again space for 2 weapons.

This case is not ele/engi specific, yaknow. It’s twice as bad for other classes, where you may need multiple sets of 1 and 2-handers for different situations.

[Suggestion] Putting a CAP on Currencies

its the pricing that is the main issue preventing it without a cap price it to low and old players can get it immediately price it to high and its a good level for old players but a ridiculous amount for new ones

I still fail to understand how it is a bad thing. If you spent tons of time in the game already, you go and get retroactively rewarded (unless there’s a minor time/content gate) and become happier since you don’t have to regrind the same old stuff. If you haven’t, the problem doesn’t exist for you in the first place.

  • Portal: This utility was given a skill-fact for range (5000). I personally like the suggestion of mini-map markers, and I’ll bring it up with the team, but I don’t think that was ever planned for this release. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for a response. We got excited with the “fixed in feature build” and just a number in the tooltip as a “fix” is, well, a bummer.

Not sure about minimap indicators unless they can show if it will or won’t activate; I would personally be happy if I had:

  • a portal buff icon with a “time left” tooltip similar to ele’s conjured weapons,
  • and
    • either another portal buff icon with “range left” in tooltip or as digits over icon
    • or the skill getting greyed out/marked with red bar as out of range when out of range.

Not sure if buff icons are bad for WvW mesmers though.

  • Illusionary Warden: We made some changes for Illusionary Warden for 4/15. Can you guys elaborate on how its behaving now?

A couple of other threads (here, here) mentioned that Warden reflects projectiles upwards unless the trait is reslotted on map reset, or only reflects projectiles from above, as well as still inconsistent in behaviour.

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

I don’t really think there’re any other options aside from tokens or “progressive RNG”.

I think that combining both depending on the situation would be best:

  • For major world boss (Tequatl, Wurm) rewards, tokens make most sense. Like, you can get lucky and receive Tequatl’s hoard on the 1s-5th-Nth run straight away, but if you grind, say, 50 Tequatl kills, you get enough tokens for a weapon anyway.
    • Tokens are received in a fixed (or very low-RNG) manner, like 10 (or 7-13 tokens) per completion, and deposited to account wallet (as it is not a temporary LS currency).
    • Direct drop rates are adjusted accordingly to maintain the average current distribution.
    • This achieves balance between the thrill of winning the jackpot and the frustration of being on the bad side of statistically even distribution.
  • The same goes for things like Fractal weapons and tonics. If there’s a serious reason not to use current fractal relics as the currency, an alternative weapon token system can be used.
  • Precursors, IMO, should be acquired through feats, not grind; but as we’re not discussing the ways of getting precursors here, I think that progressive RNG can be okay for precursors until a better system is implemented (which can include scavenger hunt, world boss and dungeon tokens and so on, combined with lower chances to get a direct drop).
  • Regular exotics should work fine with progressive RNG. Using tokens for those definitely sounds like overcomplicating things.
  • Unique rewards such as world boss trinkets should work fine with progressive RNG.
  • Regular rares drop often enough to stay with the regular RNG system.

In the future, they should just split up instances like “The World Summit” into 2 parts: one with the dialogue and one with the action. That way there wouldn’t be any need to add complications like ‘skip’ buttons. We’d just go straight to the second instance for the achievements.

They can also put some kind of “fast forward mote” or “timewarp mote” in the instance to skip to the right part.

Zerker problem?

I love that moment when “Scrubs” pwn “Elitists”.

The “scrubs” obliviously believe that they pwned “elitists” when they enter the “elitist” groups and make them fail because their ignorance ruins the synergies and strategies which are required by “elitists” to be so efficient.

That’s a rather condescending view-point. It’s not unheard of for a scrub to end up out-performing elitist that were not as skilled and finely tuned as they thought they were. Hardly means the scrub made them fail or ruined there synergies.

It’s a condescending view-point directed at an another condescending view-point. (That’s actually why most “zerker” threads are degrading into flaming eventually and get closed.)

Yes, non-skilled players aiming for skilled tactics can fail, and skilled players using common sense can outperform the less sharp wannabes. But skilled experienced players in a coordinated group can fail because of an unexperienced player “playing how s/he wants” – which I do see from my daily lvl 49 fractal runs with guildies on TS when we’re short of people, and even from CoE/AC runs. No Deep Freeze because of an unneeded CC on zero defiance stacks, area retaliation instead of might and so on, and so on.

Mists Stone for 1000 Badges of Honor ?

in Living World

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

All the examples you give can be done solo or as part of a zerg where you don’t really have to rely on other players much at all.

This looks to me like the most valid argument in the whole discussion. However, this can be surpassed in multiple ways…

  • Read guides, watch videos and carry some friendly PUGs. Perfectly doable after some work.
  • Get into a guild and ask for guidance. Easy.
  • Get into a guild and ask to buy a slot in a fractal. May be tricky.
  • Ask to buy a slot on the forum. May be very tricky, but still an option.
  • Go make a thread in the dungeons subforum and join forces for newbie fractal runs instead of spending time asking ANet to spoon-feed you.

…with some effort. Not wishing to socialise in an MMO is a psychological problem of the player, pretty much like arachnophobia and not being able to kill 3D spiders. Afraid of spiders? Play a spiderless game. Afraid of people? Play a single player game.

Living world rewards should not require FotM, dungeons, PvP, or WvW to complete. They are living world rewards and we should be able to get them either solo or as part of the living world content. I have no issue with the jumping puzzles etc being part of it because they are still part of the world.

FoTM is a part of the Living World. They feature episodes from both pre-game and current Living World, they’ve been part of the Fractured release, and for one, Rytlock has just jumped into the Mists – and I won’t be surprised if we get a fractal about helping Rytlock soon enough.

we should be able to get them either solo or as part of the living world content.

I read it as “I want to do it alone where only I matter or in a zerg where I do not matter at all, but not in a group where my actions can define failure or success for other people”. Plus, there’s only one person who says what we “should” or “should not” do in this game – it’s ANet, and they said that for this particular reward you should also join a party and do 5-man content.

Please don’t misunderstand that we don’t like the way to get the backpiece because we can’t achieve something. i believe that most people do not have problem to finish FoTM. It is not that elite that people can finish FoTM. So please stop giving the so call “advice” to people to finish the FoTM, this is not what we are talking about.

I respect you like FoTM, I would like you to respect people who don’t enjoy it. I ran FoTM before, I had crafted the fractal capacitor backpiece and I left later because I don’t enjoy it. If anet want to use the LS to lead us back to fractals, please at least give us a story line that related to it.

My point is that it doesn’t matter whether you or me like FoTM or not, neither is the respect for liking it or not. The point is that doing FoTM is an official requirement for getting a specific reward, and I simply cannot respect people who QQ on the forums because they do not want to do something but want the reward – because it looks like spoilt children begging their mommy to let them play videogames before doing their homework.

In Russia, we have a very good proverb about it which is close to the English “If you want to dance, you’ve got to pay the fiddler”, but not quite: “If you like to sledge, you should like to pull the sledge as well.” Many people here look like they don’t get it and are entitled to get the reward in whatever easiest way for them there is.

As for me, I’m okay with fractals but haven’t moved past lvl 20 and I don’t have even nearly enough relics to get the backpiece, because I consider myself a dedicated casual player, but nothing more. Still, I’m completely okay to work for something I need.

It’s not that Guild Wars 2 is becoming more like other games, it’s that many games in general have frequently adopted myths and legends from a variety of cultures around the world.

This.

And once you have ~100 basic myth flavours and 36 basic plots but 100 000 games, books and movies, things eventually start repeating themselves. In the end, it’s not really about the plot as it’s already happened in other creations before, but about the flavouring details which make it desirable.

As for games adopting myths, I really liked how ALfheim Online spoke about a future MMO system which will be automatically scanning Internet for myths and generating quests based on those; unfortunately, that was one of the really nice concepts which got buried in the over-haremy novel and a poor anime adaptation.

Thanks for clarifications.

250 is still the max stack size used for a single sale/purchase.

I hope we’ll see the “Sell maximum” button if there’s more than 1 of the item, right? Because the button is absent in the screenshot.

New Mystic Forge Recipe!

Gaile just announced this as being a “good thing”.

Yes, I believe it is a good thing.

No one said that having a tonic recipe in the game isn’t a “good thing”. Definitely obtainable things are good things.

But as history shows, even with thousands of snowflakes flushed several precursors worth of gifts opened, you can still find yourself on the statistically justified zero-result streak which leads to severe dissatisfaction, which is not something people look for in games. That’s why RNG-obtainable things (with the current pure-RNG system) are not a good thing.

Any info if any of those additions will be in the expansion, or if there will be any UI additions/changes in HoT?

No info yet AFAIK.

I also posted a list of 150+ QoL features almost a year ago which was largely composed from forum request, but almost nothing actually made it to the game.

…aaand here we go again, deliberately comically missing the point about obtaining a legendary vs. obtaining the legendary you want and will enjoy a bit more than for 10 seconds in each Swamp fractal.

This post makes just as much sense as “you can equip all your characters in Zojja’s Ascended without ever crafting” and “everyone can become the president of United States”, but whatever, it will draw the desired attention and make a particular person happy.

Read the patch notes. It’s all there if you can’t handle it by pressing buttons in the game. They went as far as give you automatically a fairly similar build to what you had…

The Build Tab
Upon logging in, you will see that the Skills and Traits section of your Hero panel is now gone. We’ve replaced this with an entirely new Build tab that allows you to view all of your skills and traits in one convenient location. To access the Build tab, open your Hero panel and select the second tab from the top of the far left. Additionally, inside the Build tab there are three larger slots with filled-in or grayed-out backgrounds—these are your specialization slots.
Specializations
Instead of investing trait points across varying trait lines, you now select up to three different specializations depending on your level. Each specialization offers a variety of traits for you to choose from that give you passive abilities that enhance the way you play. By default, you’re given access to a base set of specializations known as core specializations, which you equip by clicking on the left-hand arrow of a specialization slot. Specialization slots unlock at levels 21, 45, and 71. We’ve taken into account the skills and traits that you had currently selected on your character and made an effort to unlock and equip a build similar to what you had been running prior to this release.
Specializations and trait choices are game mode specific. You may select different specialization lines and associated traits in PvE, WvW, and PvP.
The Training Tab
Excluding racial skills, all nonweapon skills (heal, utility, and elite) that appear on the right half of your skill bar—as well as your traits—are now locked inside the new Training tab. To unlock these skills and traits, open up your Hero panel, go to the Training tab, then select a track under Core Skills or Core Specializations. In order to train, you will need to spend hero points (previously skill points) in a selected track. Hero points are earned by leveling up or by completing hero challenges (previously skill challenges) throughout the world. The Training tab is locked until your character reaches level 11. In order to make this change, Antitoxin Spray has been removed from the game.
Core Skills
Core skills are reward tracks of heal, utility, and elite skills organized by skill category. You may start unlocking skills at level 11. Elite skills are unlocked at level 31. Individual skills are locked by default but may be unlocked in the following manner:

Step 1: Open your Hero panel and go to the Training tab. The Training tab is the third tab from the top on the far left of the Hero panel.
Step 2: Select one of the tracks under Core Skills. Tracks are located on the left side of the Training tab.
Step 3: Once you select a track, it will become visible, showing you a circle with all of the selected track’s associated skills.
Step 4: In the center of the selected track, there will be a skill, a button that allows you to learn the skill, and a cost (listed in Hero points).
Step 5: To learn a skill, click on the Train button and confirm that you’re willing to pay its Hero point cost. Once completed, the next skill in the track will become available. Once all skills in a track have been purchased, the circle will be completed.
Optional: To train further into a track, select the reward level that you want and click the Train button.

Core Specializations
Core specializations are an updated version of the previous trait system. All specializations are locked until your character reaches level 21. Individual specializations and their associated skills are locked by default but may be unlocked in the following manner:

Step 1: Open your Hero panel and go to the Training tab. The Training tab is the third tab from the top on the far left of the Hero panel.
Step 2: Select one of the tracks under Core Specializations.
Optional: To train further into a track, select the reward level that you want and click the Train button.

final boss fight too much

Something clicked for me when you mentioned FPS. That’s what this GW2 combat is most like (that is, these boss fights – I’m not confident in saying that all GW2 combat is FPS-like). MMOs have traditionally been about strategic, turn-based combat (albeit at a faster pace than tabletop games) but the pace of these fights and the breadth of their mechanics makes the challenge less about intellect and more about reflexes.

Which is fine, depending on your preferences, but I can easily see how the traditional MMO crowd (particularly the ones who just “play for fun”) would get incredibly frustrated.

The FPSishness of this game is what I really like. I can’t even imagine a “proper” game without jumping or dodging. And I still miss my wall-dodges a lot

Something similar happened to me several times during player-heavy LS events. First the audio stops or goes on an eternal 1-second loop, possibly giving a crash alert, then it continues to work but after some time and some actions it crashes completely.

Double Punishment in Reward for Boss Blitz

  • You do it properly, you get gold reward.
  • You do it with mistakes, you get silver reward.
  • You do it wrong, you get bronze reward.
  • You do nothing and simply wait for bosses to die from age – yes, you deserve nothing.
  • You try to do it again and do it wrong, you get bronze reward.
  • You try to do it again and learn enough, you get silver reward.
  • You try to do it again and master it, you get gold reward.

Seems perfectly fair too me.

You are unable to read map chat? Give away part of your reward.

You are unable to see the turret with large red swords and a buff icon on the boss? Give away part of your reward.

You’ve been happily running with your friends in Queensdale and now they can’t organise even 6 groups of 7 people by typing letters? Give away part of your reward.

You are unable to find a large enough guild which exists on every server and advertises often? (Reminder: you can join up to 5 of them.) Give away part of your reward.

Sorry, you’re out of rewards. Please try again later or improve your skills to, well, get rewarded and not presented with something.

Raids highlight the need of a Guild Browser

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Yes, I know there’s a forum section and there’s a subreddit for recruiting (inb4 “wait, there’s a subreddit for recruiting?!”), but firstly, they should not be outside of the game, and secondly, they feel like such a mess that every time I try to use them I just say “whatever” and close them.

Since ANet insists that raids should not be puggable (and thus does not add an LFG section for it), I believe they should also make it easier for people to find all types of guilds in the game itself (and not only those that bother to spam mapchat with advertisements in popular maps at a certain period of time).

Ideally, I see that as a tab in the Guild panel (an NPC in LA would also be nice) where you can filter all existing guilds (on your EU/NA region) by multiple criteria (exclusively and non-exclusively):

  • game mode(s): [] Open-world PvE [] Organised PvE [] Raids [] Fractals [] Dungeons [] sPvP [] WvW [] Guild missions [] communication/roleplaying
  • preferred game experience: [] newcomers [] experienced [] hardcore
  • roster size: [small/medium/large] (or [number range])
  • activity: [low/medium/high] (there should be some algorithm that checks representation, participation, guild chat, guild missions and upgrades etc.)
  • major activity time: [time range] (either based on activity above or manually set)
  • guild hall: [Awesome Precipice/Gilded Hole/none]
  • guild level: [number range]
  • representation requirement: [full/during guild activity/no requirements]
  • server: [dropdown list] (for WvW purposes)
  • voice communication: [available/unavailable]
  • language: [dropdown list]

All these parameters (apart from some objective and automatic ones – like size, level, activity) should be ideally settable by guild leaders; at some point, a Guild Recruitment Board should be unlocked for guilds so that they can input custom recruitment information (website application form, age restrictions etc.).

The guild should also have a mailbox for join requests, as well as an option to opt-out from being listed in the Guild Browser (for small friend-only guilds).

Finally, there’s a monetary incentive: even a part of these features, if implemented, will do a lot to improve the average player engagement and – surprise! – the amount of money he is willing to spend on the game he cares about.

Using Autoclicker

What you should know is that even if you decided you want to do this and spam join a megaserver map, it will not help you. Recently we implemented a system that will throttle and prevent a player from sending too many “join map” requests in short sucession. While this is not a solution to help players join full maps, it does somewhat even the playing field for multiple players attempting to join a full map.

I rarely make such direct statements to developers as they definitely know best what’s right for their product, but I believe that vision of “even ground” in GW2 is skewed.

In my opinion, a player who has stronger motivation and has invested in the game more deserves more. Players who went as far as creating a guild, a website and a Teamspeak server for playing together in a large event deserve more than a random upscaled solo player who tagged a boss, pulled all mobs and then Akitten in the middle of the fight (yes, I’ve seen a person who was idle for 2 hours in the same place in Boss Blitz, died over and over again and still wasn’t kicked by the game!).

In GW2’s opinion, players who want “too much” should be punished by:

  • daily chest limits for trying to earn gold,
  • chat suppressions and language filters for trying to organise,
  • megaserver system which solved population problem for solo low-levels but introduced a huge pain in the axe for large groups of frequent loyal players aka guilds,
  • stealth “fixes” to “join in the map” mechanism.

Spending an hour and a half looking for a server, splitting the guild into three poor semi-full servers instead of a single one, or jumping right on time with the whole guild and then being unable to join for half an hour while other players who were late could join – these things are not “even ground” with other players for me but sources of frustration and, when repeated multiple times, reasons to ragequit.

TL;DR: until we get a queue system, if a player gets in time and spams “join”, he’s more motivated then the one who came later and clicked it once and thus should have priority in joining.

Who came up with the "taxi" term?

I’m genuinely curious about where this “taxi” term originated from (the one which means “invite people to your party so that they can join your version of the map”). Some people use “ferry”, but “taxi” is rather widespead. Was it a specific guide, or another MMO, or our collective mind?
