"Play How I Want" Is Gone

Or heres another way to look at it:

New Dailies:
Anet: Here’s even more pieces of cheese!!

Player: Ok, whats the catch?

Anet: Continue to do what you were doing! We gave you some nice pieces of cheese just for logging in!! But wait thats not all! If you want to get some extra special cheese then here is a list of things to do, just do 3 of them!

Player: But thats out of my way, and I don’t like those things…

Anet: Thats ok, there are lots more stuff you can do to get those extra special pieces of cheese! Plus it gives you a chance to try something new! Now go have fun!

Player: I don’t wanna…

Fanbois: oooo more cheese, extra special cheese, as well as more things to do!! Awesome!

Haters: Anet sucks! I don’t like it, change it back!

(It kind of works both ways)

You forgot that part:

Player: What about those 5 special pieces of cheese I loved which I got for just playing the game? And the sauce?

Anet: Oh, they’re now 10!

Player: Can I still get them for just playing the game? Or at least half?

Anet: They’re now 10 and only 10! Oh, sorry, you should go and jump through the XYZ hoops! Did we mention that they’re now 10?

Player: Give me back my 5 pieces of cheese for just playing the game!

Fanbois: Why are you so ungrateful? Didn’t you hear they’re now 10?!

The fact that they have nerfed farmers, nerfed hardcore content timing and discouraged organized raids show that GW2 has shifted towards the casual player side.

On the other hand, they definitely made leveling harder with traits at 30 and Obsidian Sanctrum and level 50-80 personal stories to unlock traits. Which is pretty puzzling.

Where are we supposed to post regarding dungeons, fractals and other non living story related PvE? General discussion already fills with threads at an alarming rate.

General Discussion is correct. With many developers involved in multiple projects, it’s helpful for them to have a main forum to check for input, suggestions, and questions.

Since many more threads will now coexist with others, especially in the General Discussion section, I suggest increasing the amount of threads per page from 30 (to 40? 50?). The threads which go onto the 2nd page are very likely to sink away into the abyss, and the 1st page already has 5 stickies which decreases the amount of visible threads to 25.

The new achievement panel is horrible

Agreed, it’s terrible. There are a lot of good things about this game, but definitely not UI.

Please leave “summary” alone for the recent and almost completed achievements. I need the summary easily accessible since if you have any achies tracked, you can’t easily see if you have completed the daily. While we’re at it, I would appreciate it if recent/almost completed achievements get increased to 5 points.

Please put log-in track into a separate category, or at least move it down under the recent and almost completed achievements. I already see it every day and can’t miss it since I have to accept it, no need to repeat it.

I don’t really care about skins/percent buffs as I use them like a couple times a year at most.

Upcoming Changes for PvP League Season 2

in PvP

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

I still see a problem in the daily profession win achievements. People have played classes they do not know to get the rewards for a long time; but when there’s a PvP league with achievements, they’ll combine both types in one go – play ranked and on classes they do not know.

My suggestion is: change the profession win dailies to a daily profession win in unranked, or a daily win on any profession in ranked, like this:

  • Win an unranked match as Elementalist or Mesmer, or win a ranked match as any class.
  • Win an unranked match as Guardian or Ranger, or win 2 ranked matches as any class.

This will effectively work with the current non-exclusive achievement system and allow 2 achievements for both options.

One more try on improving the daily tasks, PvE only:

  • Daily Nice View
    • View a vista in {map},
    • complete a jumping puzzle in {region},
    • or kill 50 monsters across the world.
  • Daily Resource Manager
    • Gather 4 {resource type} in {map},
    • gather 15 resources across the world,
    • or salvage 50 items.
  • Daily Heroic Deeds
    • Complete 4 events in {map},
    • complete 10 events across the world,
    • or complete a dungeon in explorable mode.
  • Daily Proficient Fighter
    • Apply 20 conditions to enemies,
    • cleanse 20 conditions from yourself,
    • or dodge 20 attacks.
  • Daily Mad Quaggan’s Pick
    • Kill a specific world boss / complete a specific tier of Fractals.

At the moment I think that something like that could please everyone: those who need a daily goal and play just a bit, those who play a lot but prefer specific content, those who hunt for APs, and those who level their 1st characters.

Watchwork Pick: Non-inflammatory please

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lishtenbird.2814

I do feel cheated.

  • I bought the old set just a couple of weeks ago when it was on sale because I thought that buying the whole set was the only way to get all tools (which I liked) at the same time. So the argument of “you had it before anyone else did” doesn’t really work for me.
  • I remember the “Last pick you’ll ever need!” slogan. No, the smartphone analogy isn’t viable because a game is not real world where you have virtually limited resources and the money you spend today is what makes it possible to develop the next generation item. In a game, it’s a Word of God and a couple of clicks to introduce a new material or to alter supply (and demand). So the “generic smartphone analogy” is a neat but shallow argument which is based on the false assumption that real-world economy is identical to game-world economy.
  • Yes, I did buy them at a discounted price, but would’ve I bought them should I had known of a new, better pick? That creates a dangerous precedent where a player can wait for a better product instead of buying the current one, resulting in a loss of gems at the moment. Make it happen more often – and you may run out of buyers at all, which will start killing the game simply because everyone’s waiting for something better.

  • Yes, the price appears several times because it’s just 1 item;
  • yes, not seeing the projected profit is counterproductive (let’s say a player needs 5g for a new exotic, so he sells some of his mats for 6g but can’t see if he gets enough without doing the math);
  • yes, there’s enough place to shift “Sell instantly” and “Cancel” buttons down and put “Projected profit” in smaller text under “Total price” or even “Exchange fee”.

It seems to me, we haven’t lost any functions.

I don’t see the “most demanded/supplied” items. Maybe it was put inside categories, or maybe it was removed to get rid of the mass order manipulations.

[Suggestion] More Language Filtering Options

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Added a chat option – enabled by default – that shows only the messages coming from players sharing your client’s text language.

Though the idea sounds right, the implementation is far from perfect, as it naturally leads to

  • people whose speaking language and UI language are different losing relevant messages (i.e. Spanish UI, English-speaking or English UI, English-German-French-speaking),
  • people who use non-listed languages have UI set to English but continue to speak in native languages (thus provoking further discrimination),
  • and as a result the chat will more often than not turn into a mess where half of the messages get filtered out and the conversation makes no sense.

The other problem is people not aware of this feature. Having this option enabled by default will lead to less problems than disabled by default, but not eliminate them:

  • enabled: people who’re unaware of the option will get occasionally ignored;
  • disabled: discrimination will go on, and people who turn the option on will simply see a part of the discrimination turned into a mess – different disconnected phrases in mixed languages.

I would suggest adding a more extensive control of preffered languages in the Options menu instead:

  • I usually speak in chat in:
    • [v] English
    • [ ] French
    • [ ] German
    • [ ] Spanish
    • [ ] other languages
  • I can understand and prefer to see chat messages in:
    • [v] English
    • [ ] French
    • [ ] German
    • [ ] Spanish
    • [ ] other languages

This system may not be perfect (and at least requires a clear message to indicate its presence), but at least it allows more control over languages than the current implementation.

What is CDI? (I started not long ago)..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Offtopic.

Some people would rather get an answer from another person. And, some people don’t mind answering other people’s questions. Before the internet people actually communicated with each other. Shocking huh?

How can you complain about him wasting people’s time when you could easily not clicked the link and not responded in the thread. You wasted your own time.

Google links to threads like this. So without threads like this there would be nothing to Google.

Google links to threads like this (official) and this (semi-official).

I myself am a person who pretty often makes lists, glossaries and similar sources of concise information (not so much in case of GW2 though) which can be then found via search engines. I personally think that asking real people something like what is CDI? or what is DPS? in separate threads (unlike, say, asking “what’s DPS and CDI?” in map chat when your browser is closed and you’re busy with the game) is counter-productive and disrespectful towards people who spend their time to systematize information and make it publicly available; once extrapolated to global levels, it is a thing that hampers the progress of our world.

That said, I am okay with people who enjoy giving answers to most trivial questions, because that’s a part of their life; I usually go past such threads and sometimes post a brief link onto where such info can be found. However what I am not okay with is people who’re calling other people jerks for trying to provide a more globally useful advice – and that is the reason I spent my time writing my post.

When someone is asking a naive/simple question, there may be two reasons for this:

  • A person is lazy and is willing to spend 10 times more time writing a post than googling.
  • A person is not used to constructing short search queries and is not aware of the fact that such queries are easy to construct and often give fast and reliable results.

Thus, posters who post links to LMGTFY, Google and Wiki, are assuming the 2nd scenario and are trying to make Internet a better place with more experienced people. Posters linking to images about being jerks… sorry, not so much.

Lishtenbird.2814

There are a lot of things that should be done in an ideal world but they weren’t done and we have a situation at this time were implementing this list in its entirely would likely take more than a couple of years, assuming everything else wasn’t being worked on.

You can say that it’s all fast stuff, but you don’t really know that, and frankly, neither do I. But I’ve seen how long other updates have taken and I’m not convinced that this team can work faster without producing more bugs than we currently have to deal with.

Edit: It’s a great list. But even if it was all an priority it will never all happen in one update. Not even most of it.

I’m not saying it’s all fast stuff. Things like reworking rewards or choosable overflows or fixing pathing issues are slow stuff – and that’s why they’re in the very end of the list. But many things are relatively easy to fix (like, again, “use all” on stacks), and I’d be ultimately more happy if fast things came first because I can enjoy them now and wait for content-like features, as otherwise I may get fed up with small nuisances and leave before they even start rolling out the heavy stuff.

GW2 is not an indie game, and it even reminds me more of Windows 8 – “Let’s change what our freshly graduated marketing guys showed in their cool PowerPoint presentation, let’s never fix what buyers ask for and cover the rest with advertising” – not to Microsoft’s extent of course, but the direction looks similar. As a serious business, ANet should understand that at some point glad veterans become more important than 1-time buyers who wouldn’t even understand that half of my list is worth working on – which the failure of Windows 8 has proved. But “new players” are more or less finite, new games (unlike OSs) are coming out, so now may be the right time to think about their own “solid foundation”.

*Spoilers* Lack of Twist

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

- A fearsome death howl, from a fearsome foe, the likes of which has never been seen before!
- Whatever. It was big… now it’s dead.

So long story short, Scarlet killed people because she was bad.

What I really hoped for was a twist: the reason why Scarlet killed so many people, why she invented all these machines (discarded Marionette included), why she went all the way with improving the toxic pollen to miasma etc. etc. I was really expecting some grey-and-grey morality here, with Scarlet telling us about the sacrifices required for development of weapons that can take down a dragon which began corrupting her own race, and than having Scarlet captured and used as an ultimate source of information for facing the above-mentioned dragon. “She may be insane, but she’s a genius and Tyria needs her,” – the Taimi kind of thing.

What I want to say is that many speculations here on the forum were far more interesting than a direct and “lazy” ending we got. That said, I still have hope for a twist in March 18 “epilogue” – though chances of seeing a return of steam-Scarlet saviour from another dimension or finding out that we finished yet another hologram are already next to none. We may ultimately see that finishing Scarlet was a bad move, but still, that won’t be the same as what she was trying to tell us.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

Suggestion 1.

  • Tie trait unlocks to skill points.
    • When I first started playing, I found the concept of skillpoints underwhelming and, uhm, silly. Making them unlock traits makes perfect sense.
    • Skill points have mobs with special mechanics, too, and are often located in protected places.
    • You already have skillpoints in place – minimal rework.
    • This is a moderate compromise between a complex and overwhelming, frustrating current system and the previous “cheap” system with no goldsink.
  • Make skillpoints linkable and pan to them from trait info.
    • This is a transparent, bug-free, user-friendly system. You know where to go and what to do without printing out lists of trait unlocks and without all the frustration it brings.
    • It also fits naturally into the normal world exploration concept.

Suggestion 2.

  • Award traits for each level-up and scrap the current system.
    • Awarding traits per level-up looks natural. It is part of the core system of character progression, not an “option”, and should be presented as such!
    • This completely solves the problem of underwhelming “dead” levels.
  • Rework the current unlock events to grant something else which is nice but not required to play effectively next to other people.
    • You can use the current trait acquisition system since it’s already in place and turn it into “Skill challenges” tab in the Achievements tab.
    • These can grant AP, various skins, skillpoints, themed map loot, etc.
    • These can also grant something new… like materials required for precursor crafting hint hint.

Suggestion 3.

  • Create Asuran Training Grounds instance which can teach players.
    • Put mobs with basic mechanics and advanced mechanics like Gauntlet bosses and lock traits behind them. GM traits may have bosses like Liadri idea-wise, but scaled to appropriate non-80 levels of course.
    • It makes sense.
    • It should be easy for veteran players, alt-friendly and not frustrating.
    • Put the same trait merchant for those who still don’t want to do it or can’t master it.
    • It’s new content.
    • …but it requires extra work.
    • Did I mention that it makes sense?

Note to Devs 1. I do not feel like creating, playing or leveling my non-80 alts after the April feature patch.

Note to Devs 2. Every next alt I create has a higher chance to need more Gem Store armour and weapons for a unique look.

Beta Eternal Coliseum

Lishtenbird.2814

Since this looks like the thread for feedback, here’s my 4 copper:

1. The map is ugly and screams 90s. For some, visuals are not important in PvP; for others, they are. Look at these depthless low-poly boxes and texture clipping right in front of the base and 2D sprites that even move like a gif animation. The greenishly-brown colour tint makes it look like one of those games on older PCs too.

I absolutely loved Capricorn and always picked it, but this map – even if it tried to bring back the 90s nostalgia, for me it failed as it just looks utterly disappointing on the visual front. At the very minimum, it needs proper normal maps for the wooden boxes; and probably a change of scale on those wooden textures (I wouldn’t mind replacing all the wood with stone though) and maybe some torches, broken planks here and there, signs of battle. The outer parts are actually okay (apart from the crowd), but you rarely see them during the match compared to the ugly low-poly boxes insight.

2. Small caps and large LoSless zones are not fun. I understand this is a feature, but I doubt I will enjoy even on other classes. Your experience? Time will tell, I guess…

3. The cheering crowd is annoying. Though good in promo material, it is another level of background noise. I wouldn’t like to turn down my preferred settings because of one map, but I might have to.

4. Secondary mechanics. Too early to comment on their power for me, but mostly, it was confusing. From the notes, it felt like the whole party got the buff; then why only one person is marked with an icon? We’ll sort it out, I guess, but first impression is first impression.

This is exactly what is happening. Since I (and other players) am not happy with their new and enforced game design philosophy, we make this kind of threads to alert them about possible consequences of the shift and to give them a hint on how to get the best of the both worlds and retain both types of (potentially paying) customers.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

It’s 100% optional, and only rewards 10 AP.

When people massively start using “it’s optional” as an argument in game discussions, you know something is going really wrong.

Crafting an exotic is free if you have an artificer at 100 or higher. Lack of knowledge is more of a problem here than the dailies.

Well, to be truthful that does not look like it was intended. Just as i’m sure doing vistas in racial cities were not intended for zone vista viever dailies (esp. since those cities are not mentioned in daily info).
When presented with a daily, an average player’s reaction is not to look for an exploit or loophole to “easymode” it. If the dailies are there indeed to interest people in diverse activities, and if indeed the system was changed because Anet was dissatisfied by people going at previous ones by the path of least resistance, then the very fact they not only can be easymoded now, but that you think it should be the default approach shows, that the new system failed spectacularly.

^ this. The last thing a normal (“casual”) player with 1 character with 2 started disciplines is thinking of is checking all exotic items in all disciplines in Wiki, rolling a new character today, buying enough stuff from TP, salvaging it and starting Artificer to get the daily.

  • “Events?” spam in map chat and zergs killing mobs in seconds,
  • same easiest vistas (sometimes with portals),
  • linked WPs with most wood/ore/plants nodes,
  • “Craft exotic essence of luck for free” PSAs,
  • same profession matches in PvP,
  • AFKers in hot-join,
  • mob taggers in WvW

are all the symptoms of this new daily system: players feel forced, do it because they do not want to miss the reward and not because they enjoy doing it, and as a result seek for easiest ways to “exploit” the system. I don’t want to exploit the game; I want to do meaningful stuff and get rewarded for meaningful stuff, and not for doing pet tricks or finding the fastest way to not play the game but get the reward. While you’re saying that knowing how to exploit the system is the most important part of the new system… and if it’s true, what does it say about the system then?

Telling people to “get over it”, “don’t do it”, “it’s optional” is not an answer. It’s not a solution. It’s simply an excuse… and when these excuses are weaved into screwed logic just for the sake of defending (especially with a “Ha-ha, eat it!” grin on the face), it obviously leads to aggressive reactions.

Let me ask you a simple question. Has the scaling prevented you from completing the 4-event daily?

  • Gendarran Rock Dog event: yes, my zone-level character couldn’t kill anything because mobs melted in seconds.
  • Gendarran Nebo Terrace event: elite upscaled tramplers kill low-level characters by looking at them.
  • Gendarran Cave event: by the time I was there everything was killed.
  • Gendarran Escort event: mobs melt.

An honest, sincere question here, regarding the lack of a ‘show total profit’ feature.

In what circumstances would this information change your behavior?

  • When selling close to vendor price. Will I lose money if I sell it instead of vendoring?
  • When selling things you may need to get cash you need more. Will I get 7g 13s more which I need for an exo sword from selling 10 lodestones, or should I sell 11 lodestones?
  • When flipping items. I bought this item at 3g 71s 21c, will I get profit if I relist it for 4g 25s which is below the lowest offer now, or should I list it at 4g 50s and wait a bit more because I know the market likes to shift during weekends?

[Merged] Twitch stream presentation feedback

Lishtenbird.2814

Agreed. When I went to watch the stream, I thought I was going to see serious people who are determined in what they’re doing. Like, if it’s a developer’s stream, they’ll be talking like people who have mastered software development to people who are deeply interested in how things work. I’m being harsh now, but at that moment an idea “that explains a lot” hit my head. Which was weird, because I always liked how clean and neatly the news on releases were put (except for the always “incredible!!!” slogans standing next to trivial things), and I even always liked the Living Story stuff which is the thing widely disliked.

The reality put me off. It was too personal. It felt like a stereotypic shut-in gamer to a stereotypic shut-in gamer talk, not a pro developer to a thoughtful gamer. Probably the advanced technical part with the overlay and the slideshow background made it look even more contrasting – a simple round table with snacks and gamer stuff would’ve worked better if the team was striving to deliver the friendly message. But as such, those things didn’t match.

And the worst thing that really made me feel uneasy was the chat. Are we playing the same game? Why don’t we see such things in the game chat? Most people I come upon in the game are what I’d call a successful interaction, and that’s what makes me stay. And reading the chat it actually felt like all those kids who get banned and ignored on forums and who have problems writing (and reading) in complete sentences came there to show off in front of “the big guys”.

Still makes zero sense. You can get 23g by converting gems to gold at the moment already, buy all red dyes, and have leftovers.

I can’t help but think that whoever was in charge of setting these gemstore prices either doesn’t bother checking the game itself (things like how much coin people make and how expensive things are in the trading post) or that they expect people to be dumb enough to fall for that.

In one case players and the reality of the game are being ignored, and in the other case their intelligence is insulted.

Reminds me of a topic where a player was angry that he had spent a lot of money on upgrade extractors to test different builds, and when I said that he would’ve had saved tons of money by converting these gems to gold straight away and then buying runes/sigils, he responded with something along “I don’t need gold, I got gems”.

At that point, I decided that such items should definitely exist for a simple reason of punishing ignorance and funding the game at the same time.

I am disheartened at both the continuing visual nerfing despite the evident unhappiness in the community and the total lack of communication on this issue.

I have always thought that skill effects and animations were not good enough in this game compared to magical flashy Korean grinders, and the nerf to fireball, mesmer wells and now even auras is beyond my understanding. The game looks outdated enough on high-resolution screens already because of the ancient engine — why make it look even worse?

Ah now I see what your talking about. You’re worried about rewards. Like I said in my OP, I agree that rewards for crown pavilion might not be good enough, but if you read my OP you would see that I don’t care about rewards.

Not rewards per se, but invest – return ratio. I’ve stopped doing Taidha because it’s terribly boring, Jormag has a nice design but I think he’s too tedious for the loot which is worse than Maw’s, Evolved Wurm is too dependent on getting into the right instance, and so on. If I invest time, I expect to get something in return – which is either fun or gold, but it’s ok even if it’s mostly useless karma in case of Teq; if I invest time and gold, and I do not even get fun because of several design decisions… I see no point in doing this content after getting “achievements”. On the other hand, I spent a lot of time in Kite City yesterday looking for crystals because a) I considered it fun and b) that thing measured my own skills, and not the other 14-19 guys around me attacking hawks.

Apparently, you consider Boss Blitz fun as it is, so you’re fine with their design decisions already.

Look at the summary:

In favor arguments have 1 line
Against arguments have 1 paragraph detailing and explaining his point of view.

Make your conclusions.

I am not the one claiming that the forum represents the community. The other guys is.

Firstly, already answered:

— Too little pros, too many cons. It’s biased.

  • Firstly, it’s usually like that IRL. When you say “Let’s get a cat, cats are cool!”, that’s really enough; even dog-type people know what cat-type people like about cats, there’s little point voicing evident things. On the contrary, saying “why not get a cat” requires going into specific details concerning cats and your present and future circumstances: time cost, money cost, hair and dirt, allergy, illnesses, going on trips…
  • Secondly, many of the mentioned things did not exist in the game at launch, which means there were specific reasons why the game didn’t have them from head start. These reasons are usually quite extensive and still valid, so they take up a considerable amount of space.
  • People need water to live. Water is vital for all known forms of life. People are a life form. Without water, people die. Robots do not need water. Robots are made of metal. People are not robots. People are made of 60% water, so they need water to stay alive…

You’re moving from a catch-all argument to artificially bloating up information with self-evident statements – which is what politicians in their speeches and students in their papers do. The NPE has done a great job in treating players like 5-year-olds, but I’m not going to do it; if a person can’t make an obvious connection that “more variety” = “more interested players” = “more money to make new stuff”, then I’m afraid s/he won’t be able to provide anything valuable anyway.

Secondly; got constructive stuff to add apart from “I’m used to it so put it here”? Add it. Most arguments “in favour” I’ve seen boil down to the stuff I mention.

Wake up. Content is more important than shooting mobs with flowers, kittenes or other weird things. You have lots of legendaries, other ones can wait. Living Story vol 3 Please! :*
Malyck! :* Rata Novus :*

It’s more about what we were promised. We were promised new legendaries and basically now it’s not going to happen. This is a TRUST issue and a LYING issue and a BUSINESS ETHICS issue.

Indeed. At this point, it wouldn’t really matter if they delayed one or the other (though yes indeed, legendaries feel like the lesser of two evils); the issue is that they are delaying the promised stuff people paid for again.

And yes, in this light having a lot of people to work on the next xpac before they could even deliver what they promised in this one looks like… well, the whole thread shows how it looks.

[Suggestion] Putting a CAP on Currencies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

No. Just no. I dont want a cap on my karma, dungeon tokens, fractal relics, or anything else in my wallet.

Why? You want to have thousands of dungeon tokens and millions of karma just staying there being useless? You want to hoard your currencies for no reason at all, and the developers never ever release anything new for those?

Yes, I want to hoard them. If I want to hoard 5 million karma and then craft 5 new or old legendaries in a row or take a week to forge it all into linen, there’s no sane reason not to allow me to. If I want to hoard dungeon tokens and turn them into ectos, insignias, collection unlocks or new character armour, there’s also no sane reason not to allow me to.

There’s also a very important part about hoardable currencies from the economical point of view: it reduces market elasticity. As stated by John Smith, the system has been designed to resist influxes of players and other changes in supply, and having hoardable currencies is one of the things which brings the scales back to the equilibrium if one of the sides shifts for whatever reason.

But you know what is the worst part of your suggestion? Chores:

- Hey, wanna go for AC?
- No sorry, my tokens are capped.
- Use them?
- I haven’t decided what to use them for. Well, if you give me half an hour…
- No way! party disbands

When was the last time you saw anything requiring karma introduced in the game? Or dungeon tokens? Or Fractal relics? or any other old currency?

There have been rumours of that thing called… expansion, I think? And… new legendaries. And… new tribe NPC traders unlocked at different mastery tiers. And… new tiers of fractals and fractal masteries.

How can you say that it is broken when you don’t know what it is going to be used for in the future?

Lets talk about the new Gem conversion [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lishtenbird.2814

I use the the exchanger weekly to convert my extra gold and this change doesn’t bother me at all. If fact I like the change. It was annoying going down one silver at a time till you found the threshold where it would change by one gem and then go back up. Could they add a lower increment like 100 gems, but it’s not game breaking.

Yeeeah. The new system is much easier than coding entering in either field to either exchange 100 gold for some gems

I’ll trade [ 100 ] gold for [ auto ] gems

or exchange some gold for 100 gems

I’ll trade [ auto ] gold for [ 100 ] gems

And don’t say it can’t be done. It can, with simple javascript – the field which gets focus gets priority and overwrites the other field. My guess that it wasn’t done previously for the same reason, for players not to be able to easily see the rate in game.

Then just remove the total price (which is only important to buyers) and replace it with total profit, which is what is most important to every seller (and seller is that very person who’s using the sell panel, not the buyer).

So u wnat to enter not the “price per unit” in sell tab but “profit per unit”.

No no no we should go to the armoury, I mean that I want to input the price per unit (which makes total sense as I can see other prices in the bottom part of the screen), but the largest price which says “total price” can be replaced by “total profit”, because there’s no point for me, seller, to know how much it will cost someone else per several items; I as a seller want to know how much I would get totally with the current price and the current amount.

I hate the sounds, they’re very annoying, but I understand people have crafted them for that reason, so:

  • The idea of your designer sounds okayish – if it’s rare enough, it’s tolerable – but still rare distinct sounds for no apparent reason can become distracting in challenging content.
  • Alternatively, these sounds can play only for the wielder (client-side), and not to other players.
  • Or these two ideas can be combined: always on for the wielder, but a very rare chance for other players.

[PSA] How To Easily Disable "Airplane Mode"

If you do not feel like playing with the “airplane mode” on for the whole day, here’s how you can disable most of it.

  • How to remove sepia effect: go to Settings, Graphic Options, set Postprocessing to None.
  • How to remove character noises: go to Settings, Sound Options, drag Dialog Volume all the way to the left.
  • How to remove the helmet: use a tonic and leave, the helmet is removed.

If you want to go further:

4. Other PC (player character) Models

  • Options > Graphic Options > Character Model Quality > Lowest

5. Airplane Hand Position

Combat transformation changes your character look, including hands position.

When April 1 is officially over, put those settings back to where they were.

The game is not thoroughly tested

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

The only reason I am defending is because the majority of players just complain without really thinking about what they are complaining about. This forum and most other game forums seem to be full of whiners and complainers with the ‘I am entitled’ attitude (not saying you are, mind you).

Alas, works both ways: the majority of players just defends without really thinking about what they are defending.

I am thinking about it, are you? It is easy to demonize A.Net and jump on the bandwagon of "they don’t test, look at all the bugs!‘. I am surprised many of you haven’t asked for a public lynching of A.Net due to ‘all the bugs’ in the game. Again it is the ‘entitled’ attitude coming out.

If GW2 is SO BUGGY, why are you playing it? Ask yourself that question…..

Well of course I am a stupid forum whiner and never think about anything, how did you guess?

Of course I never had to think when listing mesmer bugs and providing solutions, and didn’t have to think when coming up with 150+ QoL features (duels, mounts, player housing, guild halls, GvG excluded). I didn’t have to think when stumbling upon bugs in the game, analyzing them, finding 100% repro scenarios and reporting them.

And why didn’t I have to think? Because I do it naturally as it’s a part of my daily life and daily work – just like writing any-case-proof code for my web-projects and testing it under different circumstances is.

Because if I programmed a boss with several stages, I would’ve made sure that even in an unlikely case that the stages get skipped or overlapped, proper functions trigger and the system still works. Unfortunately, according to one of ANet dev’s articles, making fail-proof code is costly, and we all know how cost reduction is important in B2P games. Furthermore, I’m pretty sure that the current team is working with a sledgehammer on the old proprietary system developed by the devs of the release stage, and that’s the reason why we get undocumented dailies counted, contestable waypoints uncontested, town clothes converted to tonics, dailies not resetting, and weapons being removed from traders to save up on tab space.

As for playing… ANet doesn’t care if I play or not; ANet cares if i play or not. And from release to release and from one silence to another, I’ve lost faith in the dev team and stopped paying; and since you were interested, I’ve started playing less and less since the 15 April patch in my favourite part of the game and I’m starting to play less overall because I’m fed up with constant bugs and QoL issues here and there, and I also pretty much know that I will be getting a great amount of frustration for the first several days of each 2-week update as numerous silly bugs will pop out.

Why should they view it from the players perspective if players don’t try to do the same. It is not a one way street. Communication is two way – right now I see the forum posters not even trying to understand or listen.

Wow… You know, devs are not your grandma, and GW2 is not a free webcomic run by a single author, and it’s not even some student’s college project; it’s a BUSINESS: they SELL us their products, and we are their CLIENTS who PAY for it (or do not pay if we’re unhappy, simple as that).

"Play How I Want" Is Gone

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

I will put it this way. Anet simply realized that the majority of their playerbase are casual players who, in many cases, have issues exploring the entire game. What happens next is a change of ideology. Why bother with the content for people who are mostly vets when the majority of their playerbase is consisted of newer players? The content Anet is doing is to get as much profit as possible from this majority. If you disagree that they are a majority then I do honestly believe you should talk with the company and teach them how to get money. Otherwise, I do believe that we agree that GW2 is a popular title, with a huge fanbase. And if a change in ideology is going to get more profit, they would probably do it.

I understand that clearly. And the problem is that while ANet is focusing on new players who just migrated from Angry Birds (and never paid there for anything), they’re alienating players who are willing to pay and are used to paying for their entertainment (even a monthly fee).

I also have my understanding why they do that (ehm, because I live in Russia…): getting money today while you’re still working here and jumping from GW2 to some GX2, GY2 or GZ2 once this oasis dries up makes more sense from an individual’s business point of view than developing the Best MMO Of The XXI Century for years. I simply do not approve of it and write about it in this post.

The other part of the problem is that the outcome can (and is) easily predicted, and can be eeeaaasily altered to satisfy both sides! It’s just that the plan doesn’t want to, and is instead intentionally ignoring a part of the community.

“Play how you want” is not equivalent to “Do whatever you want and still get all the rewards”.
This is equivalent to when people “call out” ANet for it not being PHYW when their random spec is terrible. Because “Play how you want” != “Be effective independent of what you do”.

so much this

You have to go out of your way for some rewards that you want. Just like in GW1.

Why did I not have to go out of my way to get the reward yesterday, but have to tomorrow? GJ on missing the point, deliberately or not.

It seems to me that you people complaining have simply become set in your ways, and are opposed to the change because “We had it before.” “We had it before” is not the same as “It was better for everyone before.”

I consider “we had it before” to be a valid concern. If you had it before and now you don’t, that is to be perceived as removal of freedom. In this particular case, it was removing the freedom of getting 5-8 AP given for playing almost any thing in the game and replacing it by a requirement of doing 3 specific tasks for 10 AP.

I agree with you, and I actually think that if we had the system that we do now in the past and it was updated to the old system that we just got away from, there would be just as long of a thread about how hard it is to get dailies.

Do you remember this 8-page thread and this thread? It proves you wrong. We already had less choice and specific tasks, and people complained that they didn’t like it, and were happy when we moved to more choice and generic tasks.
