Alright, I’m going to say it.

GvG, get out of my WvW.

I don’t want to see a bunch of people /bowing and /saluting each other in a big blob south of middle supply. Anytime I do see it I want to run in there and disrupt it, but I don’t because I’m not a griefer. You guys enjoy it. I can’t understand where the joy in fighting on ‘even’ terms is, the whole point of WvW is you can roll over singles, or you can get rolled over, and you don’t know when it’s going to happen. That’s the excitement, that’s the joy. Tearing down the mighty walls of a keep, and consuming the pitiful fools clinging to their arrow carts. Or having it done to you, wondering where your allies are as you try to hold that tower against immosible odds for one…more…tick. Perhaps I am just the target audience for the WvW design, but I know I am not the only person who feels this way.

GvG is fun for those who like it, I do not doubt that. I wish there was a place for you all to fight that didn’t interfere with WvW.

But it’s not simply for “fun”. It’s a competitive Arena hosted by players who want to prove that their guild is indeed the best among guilds. Having an even fight is part of that. A lot of players would much rather prove their prowess by beating faces with a hammer than spamming 1 with an arrow cart, and those people include me. I don’t know who else will back me, but I’m sure that they far outweigh those who oppose me in my opinion.

I read through most of this and I have to re-state that the Charr can’t jump. Have you ever tried to do a jumping puzzle with a Charr? Its like watching a worm try and go up stairs…

That’s odd. How have I managed to do every jumping puzzle in the game then? Since they can’t jump and all.

Same. I hate the jumping bias of people, and laugh when they complain that my charr made them fall after I’ve completed the whole puzzle, watching them fail time and time again.

To emphasize a point stated above, I’ve found that actually killing PU mesmers rather than ending in a stalemate requires me to put on my A-game and play extremely aggressively. Don’t pull back to give yourself a break, because you’re only giving the mesmer a break when you do. You have to constantly be on them, and be sure that you’re the one controlling the fight. Make them panic. When they start panicking, they make mistakes and the fight is yours.

The portals aren’t useable in WvW and they’re expensive as hell. Nobody’s going to pay 3g to make a one-time use item unless it’s guaranteed to get them more in return than the initial investment for the portal. ArenaNet knows this and is waiting for people to find something worth said investment.

I love this game and love the dev team who puts all this effort into making it happen. I just think he launch trailer and this new anniversary trailer are kinda meh. Ik it makes effort away from the game it self but nothing gets me hyped like an epic cinematic trailer.

Alternitavely, I hate games that have cinematic trailers like WoW. I feel like the company lies to us and presents this super realistic amazing trailer where things happen, but then you get the game and feel decieved when you finally see the actual graphics firsthand. I like that ArenaNet shows us the actual game and things that actually happen rather than some cinematic with Zhaitan flying out of a crater and destroying the land beneath him only to get in game and find that he’s not so much larger than your pauldrons, stationary in the middle of a road.

At least that Warrior does next to no damage (he sacrifices damage for that mobility), What do you Sacrifice for your mobility dear Thieves?

Thief is by far the most broken class in the game, OP in any type of small scale encounter up to the point where you just feel like deleting your character and rerolling because that’s how ANet intended it.

No other class can 3 shot a 3k+ armor character while maintaining next to godlike survivability due to their ability to avoid taking damage 90% of the time.

So yea Warrior might be annoying running around like a headless chicken while you try to catch him, but at least he can’t do much more than that.

Thieves sacrifice reliable condition cleanse, any and all defense, and have the lowest health pool. Literally the only thing squishies is a zerg staff ele. Beating thieves is a L2P issue. Backstab thieves have a very front-loaded attack rotation, and a well-timed dodge can mess up the entire thing and force them to retreat or die.

To be honest, I don’t main a thief. I thoroughly enjoy the class, but my heart lies with the warrior. I’m tired of all of these players complaining about how “OP” thieves are after they get 3-shotted by an experienced glass cannon D/D backstab thief. Back about a month after release I got tired of being ganked by thieves so I changed my build a bit to include longbow so that I had some AoE to lean on in the case that a thief decided to Mug + CnD + Backstab me. I created my own little bubble in the meta to counter a single build, and I think that’s one thing in GW2 that’s really missing. Thieves are fine where they are. The 4-second reveal doesn’t affect my rotations on my thief at all in PvE. The only thing I can complain about are the new stealth mechanics where ranged mobs will continue to shoot you after you’ve stealthed.

Going back to the people complaining about not being able to counter thieves, do what I did. Change your build. Create a shift in the meta just like what happened in GW1 when a build was dominating in the GvG arenas. Personally, since I’ve switched to longbow it’s now common for me to swap to my longbow when a thief stealths, use healing surge to fill my adrenaline if I’m not able to use my burst and then lay down a smoldering arrow at my feet. If a thief decides to backstab me they’ll have to stand in fire gaining stacks of burning, which they can’t remove because they’ve already used HiS to stealth for a longer duration. It’s sickening to see people attempt the same things over and over to try to counter thieves expecting a different result. Madness I tell you.

I was testing a very tanky, stealthless, 20/15/0/15/20 P/P build in SoloQ today and got some pretty nasty comments from people. It’s the fact that we’re thieves, and “OP” is embedded in the minds of almost every player out there, regardless of reality.

Doesn’t it seem to you all kittened to wear books, holographic chicken wings/backpack, flower, tentancles, dream catchers? It does for me.

If anything should be worn beside rucksack, it should be cape or cloak!
ArenaNet give us these weird, unlogical things only because they are lazy to finally develop system which would fix clipping issues on all items. Why would anyone want to wear a flower? Does it smell good, or it gives you Bee Worker’s Aura? Why would anyone want to wear wings when they don’t allow you to fly?
I and probably majority of players want cloaks! A piece of clothing which helps keeping you warm and dry. Shown in every great fantasy novel like LOTR or The Name of The Wind. Fantasy heroes without capes are just not complete. Every traveler needs one

You have no idea how easy it would be for them to fix every clipping issue. The PROBLEM isn’t fixing it. It’s the fact that extra “collision” geometry packets would have to be sent to and from the client/server, thereby potentially doubling the lag situation.
I work as a freelance character artist on top of my day job, and my first Indy title I worked on went through the same situation. Character and environment art is all about packet reduction, borrowing and re-using textures. Adding collision to each piece of geometry adds essentially another layer of complexity that the server needs to retrieve. Not only would it cause lag, but it would also decrease the already sub-optimized performance of the game.

Probably because the artists cannot create it with the current engine.. Sad because it looks stunning.

As a professional 3D artist, I can tell you that your art is never engine-dependent (unless you’re dealing with interactive cloth and programming limitations for animated textures, etc). You’re free to create whatever your heart desires, and your only limitations are time, talent and how much you’re being paid.

Whats the average burn damage? WP posted a video where he got 19k for about 2-3 seconds using every burn duration and proc he could. How is 19k burn different from a 19k backstab or 100blades?

Because you can’t do a 19K backstab or 100-blades every second while actively avoiding being hit? Burning SHOULD hit hard, but not that hard.

You know, just like you can’t do 19K burn every second. Not sure how ONE tick of 19K burn equates to “zomg!!11! 19K burn every second!!QQ!11!”

Because you can’t land a single backstab for that much, let alone land a backstab for that much and still have copious amounts of survivability.

Well change your build i would say?? i have been changing my warrior build soooo many times now just to be able to kill some. and you know what? there is still none warrior build that can defeat them all (well playing) but i dont think it should be! there are always builds counter another build.
there are some classes running the same builds and having a real hard time now against warriors (healing signet is part of it) deal with it!! or adept..
After a year I still cant kill good mesmers!! i aint complaining about them because lol they may be good in 1vs1 but are not that good teamfight.

See, that is the key point I disagree with. This is GUILD WARS, not BUILD WARS. A balanced spec should have a chance against any spec if they play better. Sure, some builds will have a strong advantage, or require you to change up utilities, and that is fine. However, saying: “well just be full-on berzerker so you can slowly wear me down, or otherwise be an engineer” means there is a fundamental issue with the balance. If it is tied to one skill, then it is an issue.

To put it another way: sure phantasm mesmer is very strong 1v1, but if you took the right utilities or played well you could beat one. The analog of this situation would be if the phantasm mesmer was almost 100% immune to your damage passively. There is NO counterplay.

Skill should allow a player to overcome disadvantages in matchups.

Guild Wars 1 was all about building against the meta. You shouldn’t expect to be able to build once and have it be the master of all builds.

If you are using grace of the land, the bet is to stay as long as possible within CAF.
Otherwise don’t bother, using CAF will make you to miss rewards as you are healing and not tagging.

Wouldn’t blasting out some heals on allies for grace of the land and jumping out of CAF as soon as possible to dps again be more practical?

No, because the staff is pure power and the damage is really bad.
The boon doesn’t last very long and if you don’t use staff building up the AF is hard.

Isnt that why people are running aoe regen and the numerous small tic heals? And ofcoarse Astral wisp continues even after weapon swapping.

Last time i checked regen didn’t fill up the bar, but this class has got so may changes that i can’t say what is working and what is not anymore…

I just checked because I thought the same and the healing from regen is based off your healing power and counts towards AF when put on other people.

Regeneration along with heals from blast finishers, secondary effects, and Fern Hound and traited pet f2 skills all count toward Astral Force generation.

Secondary effects?

The traited post-heal AoE heal, Lingering Light — pretty much anything that appears as green numbers without you actually healing your allies.

Very few thieves dare admit how opd stealth is. I can admit it because I am not uber skilled at games like these, yet I find my thief laughbly easy in wvw versus other classes.

Hey there, I play a stealthless S/P thief. You may have seen me roaming around on GoM. I’ll be the first to admit how much of a crutch Stealth is, hence why I don’t use it and rather rely on dodges, positioning, and playing extremely aggressively against other thieves who seem to be the hard counter to anything that uses no stealth. I enjoy a good challenge, and 1v5’s are much more satisfying when I’m running no stealth than when I decide to run D/D or D/P and faceroll, which takes no individual skill. There are no breaks when running non-stealth, and while I can gain 3 seconds of stealth by swapping to shortbow and putting a blast finisher in my black powder, it’s only enough for a quick escape or repositioning with a 10 second CD on my melee set, in which case using shortbow in 1vX situations isn’t as lucrative as melee, and I’m forced to kite until weapon swap comes down. Needless to say, if I want stealth with my build, I have to work for it, and it has consequences. I believe every thief should have to make this choice.

I’ll keep saying it until you people get it: Pistol Whip is S/P’s Heartseeker. It’s already been nerfed to the ground since launch and only recently got a minor after cast fix, which somehow made it OP. New players will spam it since it’s easy to get kills off, especially in team fights where you’re being pressured from outside sources. Once counterplay is learned, the populous will only cry about it every once in a while and still call every S/P thief a “pistol whip spammer” regardless of if he used it in a fight or not. You people describing skill rotations obviously don’t play thief all too much, because apparently we aren’t limited by this thing called initiative (5 seconds is a long time. How’d you like to be dazed for that long during a fight? Didn’t think so), have 0s weapon swap cooldowns, and aftercasts don’t affect our interrupts or the next skill queued. It’s laughable, people attempting to discuss how a fight will go. When I do run zerk S/P, I rarely if ever get a full combo off on someone. The last person I did get one off on, was rank 12 playing in a Team Queue match where the majority of players were rank 30+, and I’m pretty sure went afk the entire fight. Some warriors are running Spiked Armor to combat this, and it’s effective, believe it or not. Guardians will pop retal and melt a pistol whip thief. Mesmers can start using focus and stack 100% retal uptime, and immobilizes and interrupts when you see the thief going through the ~0.9s aftercast and cast between pistol whips will ruin him. I love swapping to my warrior, running healing signet, endure pain, and spiked armor, and watching pistol whip thieves destroy themselves. Running longbow and catching them in a 6s immobilize and kiting behind them to avoid their teleports is one of the most satisfying things one can do.

The issue is that a new meta is arising for the thief class which very well counters the current meta, and people refuse to adapt to counter it back. I posted “the anti-meta” build prior to the December 10th patch and it didn’t gain popularity until recently. Please: I urge you to try different builds to counter it first, before you QQ, rather than going straight to the forums after you die to an S/P thief and cry to ANet that pistol whip needs nerfs. Removing any part of the skill would break the set entirely.

With the shear amount of deaths that occur from falling and the necessity to waypoint back, I’ve already spent nearly 1g on Waypoint costs in the first few hours of the game. I don’t know if it’s possible to reduce them for this area, but something has to be done.

Seriously. This thread is so derailed by people flexing their E–peens and arguing over trivial facts that somebody’s got to put it right back on.

The answer, OP, is that it doesn’t matter worth a kitten what your toughness/vitality are, as long as you’re happy with your survivability, damage output, and sustain. It’s personal preference, so just go with what feels right with your build.

You can spec any class to be viable in WvW. There’s actually little difference in basic specs, far outweighed by the individual build you choose.

It’s more a case of finding a class that suits your playstyle. If you like to stand still in the middle of the zerg and slog at things, Warrior’s perfect. If you’re a loner who likes to sneak around the deserted battleground looking for unsuspecting victims, then thief’s your style. etc. etc.

It’s posts like these about warrior that shows this person has never played one, and if they have they aren’t doing it right. Yes, a warrior can be very effective in zergs. We’re also very effective in havoc groups, and we’re extremely powerful in 1vX fights if you know what you’re doing and how to counter the enemy’s build and class. I roam as a longbow warrior frequently, and also have my sniper gear for when I zerg to get those long range kill shots, but I rarely wear that armor set. We’re an extremely versatile class, which means you need several sets of gear for every situation to get the most out of your warrior. Make sure to save your builds because you’ll be swapping them depending on how you plan to run WvW that day.

On a side note I’m loving the warrior love in this thread ^^.

That was last year, when I was on a full ride and had no financial obligations and had well over $60,000 in my checking account alone due to family circumstances. Now I’m more financially responsible and generally only drop $20 per month on the game, which actually goes much further than it used to before gem inflation occurred.
