I guess that’s so they don’t actually have to show any game-play… That way people don’t see how crappy the graphics in WoW is compared to a lot of the newer game are. (GW2 I’m looking at you).

But yes It is a total GW2 Cinematic RIP!

Gotta say today was the best day doing Hotjoin yet. I never even thought about crafting a legendary till this. Just happend to open one of my reward track boxes from some Hotjoin matches and found Dawn. Had no idea what it was either till my guild started flipping out about it. I play an Engi, so to me it was just another sword, till I saw what it sold for at least. So at the advice of a guildie, I sold it and biught The Hunter and will now be working on getting The Predator.

Edit: And due to the price difference in the precursors too, also made 200 gold profit! Awesome day for GW2 overall.

Slowly Merge all Maps into One Open World

unfortunately this isn’t yet possible in current technology, even though there are games that ‘claim’ a seamless world, they are in fact not! They just use clever ways to disguise that they are not, some doing a better job at it than others… f/e:

- WoW, used small gateways or large viewpoints to disguise crossing a loading point, in other places there was basically a big portal…

- Mortal Online, if you have anything but a beast of a computer you will notice lag spikes when you cross from one section to the next, they also use corridors, and while you can see beyond corridors, you can not see players in that corridor ‘on the other side’ of the loading, so they just pop up (same as wow basically)

- Rift, also used mountains to keep maps apart, but they used them to also disguise crossing them, as an ‘far view’ of your surroundings was quickly loaded, it felt like seamless, as far as crossing roads, the same ‘thunnel’ or corridor approach was taken, so that on initial loading you didn’t have to load up a lot of details and models.

All these worlds are said to be ‘seamless’ but they are not, they just disguise where the seems are… And almost any game has to function like that, or normal computers just cant handle them…

Only exceptions, ‘MineCraft’, which uses (from what I can tell) a different technology, as it only renders the world ‘in view’, while keeping the rest to simple coordinates. The low resolution helps there as well to keep resource usage low. Also not a true multiplayer, from what I understand, as in it’s multiplayer there are still limits to what can be handled, so perhaps ‘coop’ game is best to describe it.

The other would be Far Cry, I’m not sure how that handles worlds/maps, but I’m also not sure if it actually has a multi player environment, besides ‘coop’ 30-player or so maps. Also needs a pretty decent computer, just for playing the actual single player game (from memory, might be ok in recent computer terms). But seeing I hardly know this game & engine it’s hard for me to be definitive…

So yeah, while that would be really cool, and Anet could have used a different approach as to handling zone crossing, using this approach they were able to spend more attention to detail elsewhere (as you have to design each zone crossing specifically to create a smooth experience). Also sticking to the way they did it in GW1 sort of gives this GW vibe to it, I certainly don’t mind

Personally I hope the whole MineCraft approach to loading worlds (at least if I understand it right) will eventually make it’s way into MMO design, as loading the world based upon your location in the world makes for a truly open world experience. Seeing that it isn’t yet, might be a bit of a clue as to how hard that is to accomplish when your world consist out of more complicated artefacts than just squares.

What are devs working on ?

The simple answer is: unless it’s nearing completion, we cannot talk about it. You can read Mo’s post titled “communicating with you” which covers in detail how we’ve been asked to message as of about a year ago in relation to what is in development.

What we can talk about is what we think tough problems are for the game to solve, what questions we think about regularly development wise about the game, or amazing ideas for what aspects of Gw2 can be – CDI’s are a great place for that discussion in particular. But we can’t answer what exactly we’re working on, what we might work on next, or what progress we’re making on stuff we are working on.

The reality is things like these sort of lists of “what is the team doing” like my old state of the game blogs created expectations. When plans, or implementation details changed, or we threw out whole systems because they weren’t good enough – I left the team looking bad for making them break those expectations. I’ve been asked to no longer do those blogs and instead focus on only doing the type of announcements we’ve done this year of stuff that is guaranteed to ship in a reasonable time-frame after we announce it. Things like the living world journal, structure of content for season two of living world, feature packs one, feature pack two, etc.

For everything you’re not hearing about…I can only say don’t assume that means we’re not working on it, most of us who build the game all day play the game constantly all night, and are just regular Gw2 players like a lot of you. We’re looking for a lot of the same things out of the game that you are, and we read the feedback from the community constantly. Heck I just flew in from being out of town for a couple weeks and I’m reading your thread at 10:30pm on a saturday, there ya go real proof!

Now that China has launched we’ve freed up a lot of development resources back to get to those things. We also have a lot of people at ArenaNet and you’ve only seen what some them are working on this last year or two. Since we can’t share a road map of what they’re doing per our company policy, all I can answer is I hope when we’re able to show you what all we’ve been doing in total someday in the future – you’re as excited as we are about it.

To much fanboyism here… Ok. guys, the game is perfect, there is nothing to fix. There is no grind, nothing like in other “generic” mmorpgs like WOW or so. This is the best mmorpg ever made.

Fanboyism? Fanboyism?!

Is it “fanboyism” to point out your obvious mistake? People like you read only what they like or tend to put up with what favors them and end up not fully understanding things.

Just man up and admit you missed the part Vayne put up. Nothing wrong nor degrading with it.

Actually when you use words like false promises (which are demonstrably untrue), I don’t know why you’d expect ANYONE to agree with you.

If someone says Look we’ll go to the movies, unless something comes up, and then we can’t go to the movies, it’s not a false promise.

They specifically said it’s subject to change for a reason. You can’t just pick out the sentence you want from a document and ignore the rest of it. That’s called taking it out of context.

There are many reasonable posts and complaints on these forums. Yours happens not to be one of them.

I wanted to share my story

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ryan Mozo.9581

Ryan Mozo.9581

Well, here it goes. A while ago I remember reading a post about how someone truly connected with the character Taimi because they themselves felt somewhat similar to Taimi due to unfortunate disabilities. This, and an extended period of time debating (similar to that of plucking flower petals one by one “say it” … “don’t say it” …, but making sure to land on “don’t say it”) whether I want to share my own story, I guess I too finally gathered enough courage to actually say it. Or maybe it’s due to the realization of the protection of internet anonymity, because I haven’t told anyone else before…

Anyways I’ll come right out; I suffer from depression, co-morbid with a few other things. As you can imagine this takes a toll on my every day life. While this may be the case in the real world, there seems to be a lack of said toll in Guild Wars. I’ve come to appreciate the thought and time it took to create a sense of a “Living World” because this offers the best chance to escape the real world. You get to become someone else and truly be in a world where you shape it from the ground up. You can be whoever you want to be and do whatever you want to do with little to no judgement from other people. Suddenly, it feels like a huge weight is lifted from within myself when I play this game, offering me freedom from which I don’t normally have. I can actually talk and have conversations with other people. I can make friends who actually stick by my side. I can live. For some reason I can’t get this feeling doing anything else, which is why I love this game so much.

So thank you to the wonderful creators of this game. Your efforts at building this game haven’t gone unnoticed, and I hope you know there are a variety of different ways this game has touched the hearts of many, including my own. And also thank you to the people who also enjoy Guild Wars 2, with whom I wouldn’t be able to say this if it weren’t for you.
Thanks for your time if you did read this.

Rigging the outcome of the WvW Tournament

In this tournament you can’t share the pot. Every week the #1 gets the most tickets and thats it. So the 2v1 guys have to eventually consentrate on each others to ensure the win for themselves.

And what comes to the 2v1 its a fair strategy. It’s usually the two weaker servers ganging up against big mean server, because the two weaker ones are just trying to ensure the victory to themselves.

And in the end, no matter how you put it, it’s 1v1v1. The two gangers will fight each other as well, it might not be as visible to the ganged one because they are busy with two sides hitting them already.

All that raging, and that “I don’t like it, so it is stupid” reasoning …

This is a change, and of course it will affect the gameplay. What’s the point of a change that doesn’t ? It will introduce new ways of playing & strategies. People will have to learn to reflect those, spread siege ; scouts will be made more useful an actually able to try and keep their tower while waiting for assistance ; being able to use loads of rams to reset a T3 tower in a matter of seconds while the enemy is away will not be a 100% successful strategy anymore (and it’s a good thing. Odd we never saw people complaining on how ram stacking is OP ?) ; unlike what you say the use of this will not be infinite, because of the supply cost (I see messages about "resupply the tower/rinse/repeat to defend it for a long time while allies are coming back. Are you serious ? How do you resupply a tower while an enemy zerg is at the door ? A single guy throwing several of these on spread catapults will need to use the supply of the tower !)

So before coming here, cry, and call dev stupids, please try to think a bit more about all the consequences of this addition, both good and bad ; and wait to see how it behaves IG after a few weeks of people adapting strategies.

The most incredible part about you guys, is that when things are done, that don’t really change ho WvW works, you all complain on how Anet doesn’t care about WvW. When something is done, that may actually shift the meta of WvW gameplay, you all come here and cry about how it … is a change.

Many of our commanders have friend lists filled with other commanders, when there’s a 911 on the home BL or whatever, they’ll spam a help message to everyone on the list. It’s more annoying that just sending someone to LA to spam in chat used to be but it basically works.

Inb4 this was a calculated ‘leak’ so they can then ‘generously’ change the decision to show how ‘in touch’ they are with WvW players.

Say what

I’m just going to squash this rumor right now. Before the strong negative feedback received after the interview at gamescom, every intention was for each color to cost 300g. Pending QA, that version was ready to ship for the feature pack.

When the flood of feedback came in, there was a flurry of emails working out the best course of action, and in the end Zach and Tyler worked the weekend to make sure this change could be made on time for 9/9.

Thanks Mark. We NEED more posts like this so squash rumors and keep the community informed.
