Why are most gem store items temporary?

Scarcity makes people purchase, even if it’s artificial scarcity.

If people know that luxury item X will be in the store forever and ever then they’ll frequently put off purchasing. There’s no rush because it will always be there. Since something better may come along they figure they might as well wait. If people know that item X is going to leave then it pushes them to decide to get it now as they’ll won’t be able to get it later.

Be careful what you ask for

Display Order on character select

am i missing something? i thought the only thing left after completeting the LS was to get armor skins from the order you chose, is this the only reason why you would want the order on char screen?

because If you are say Vigil, you can’t go and buy whispers gear from the whispers vendor, so if you can’t remember what character that is, you could be doing a log of logging.

You clearly have not been paying attention to the story have you.

Leader of the pact, the person we help with there wild hunt. Sylvari.
South sun, the “bad guy”, Sylvari.
LW1 bad guy, Sylvari, the story was all about scarlet.
LW2, still mostly about what scarlet was up to.
HoT, about the Sylvari being dragon minions.
Now what part of the story for the last 3 years has not been about them?

As for story holes, you didn’t play Guild Wars did you. There are so many plot lines that where never finished. Its how the story telling rolls in GW. Every race starting story is unfinished. Heck the dungeon story isn’t finished. Get use to it

It’s not three years. You know why? Then READ THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS FOR KITTENS SAKE! It kittenes me off that I have to explain it milion times with other players.
YOU KNOW HOW TO READ? USE THAT ABILLITY! Then you wont write the same arguments like others here, because I am now answering the same questions all the time. READ REALLY. THAT DOESN’T HURT. Few posts up is an answer why it’s not three years of Sylvari’s lore. Done.

I did, but GW is different game than GW2. Plus GW is an old one here
Plus they had Malyck story on the table. Now it’s time to take a look on it again.
So it’s completely different situation here.

I hate to say this, but ANet have said HoT is the end of the Sylvari story that started at the end of Eye of the North. The game has had a Sylvari central character through out the game for 3 years. If you can not see this you are blinding your self to this fact. People are telling you this but you are sticking your head in the sand about it. I honestly can not understand why you can not see this.

Also if your not a Sylvari character you will have no clue about him. Not a one. I’ve never played a Sylvari Beyond the dream because I read about the shadow of the dragon. I do not like them as a playable race, they just don’t speak to me.

Void of Players

Are there any maps in particular where you’re seeing this, or is it all the low and mid level ones?

Right now it wouldn’t surprise me if they’re relatively empty because we had a big update a week ago which revamped WvW, dungeons, Fractals and the HoT maps so a lot of players have gone back to those areas to check out the changes. We’ve also got new dailies which encourage players to go to the HoT maps.

But that will even out over time, even if the vast majority of people like the changes it will stop being new and exciting and they’ll go back to other maps as well.

Especially with the map bonus system, which made level 15+ open-world maps the best place to farm some previously hard to farm items.

(If this is something you just noticed today you also need to consider the time of day. Most GW2 players live in Europe and North America and when you posted this the majority of Europeans would be heading home and the majority of Americans would be going to, or already at work/school. So all maps are going to be relatively quiet. Things will pick up as the evening goes on, then (at least on EU servers) drop off dramatically after 11pm.)

Colour me impressed… quality… a thing that vanished for a long time now. WvW reward tracks… with new ARMOR SKINS (bout time.. geez), visuals restored, a freebie thats overkill amazing, dailies that dont suck anymore and show more diversity, the darn fractal backpack is done, the new legendary bow that looks vastly better then in the official trailer, the HoT map rewards fixed, dungeon rewards fixed heck even the stupid rng chests are now worth more, balance that doesnt really destroy too much for once (eh.. cept the reaper thing with chill and the engi HT….but i kitten about that later, no salt right now)

There we go… back to the roots, would you look at that… never imagined id ever type a post again on this forum that does not crystalize the eyes of those who read it to pure salt…. good one a-net.. seems ima stick arround afterall

Lethal Stranger.5093

IMO, the biggest problems with DBL:
- Air Keep taking up too much map space and having a confusing layout
- The keep lords have way too much HP and badly-designed abilities (especially the ones at Fire & Air Keep.)
- The waypoint problem
- Unnecessary obstacles throughout the map that serve no purpose other than annoying the player (pulsing cripple around Earth Keep area, the windblowers at Air Keep that launch the player etc.)
- Barriers making it practically unplayable for roamers

Alpine BL had none of these problems.

I don’t mind the canyons and cliffs too much, as long as we get more alternative routes and/or bridges to make them more enjoyable to navigate through.

If they want to fix the DBL they have to scrap it. It has so many flaws in it, they can’t fix it and a new map would be faster and better.

I wouldn’t mind it, if they put it on a rotation with EOTM oder making a second EOTM with it. But it has to many flaws for real WvW.

Can we finally nerf revenant plz

Burtnik.5218

Well as rev main i have to say we could use some nerfs but also we need some rework to make our abilities actually worth using in teamfight at same time (sword 2, sword 3). Sword 2 is broken in 1v1 and useless in 1vX. Main offender here is the braindead double stab on dodge however. But generally speaking all elite specs needs to be nerfed, pointing out a finger at rev is just wrong. Also probably none of you have even tried to run revenant without herald traitline – its below trash level.

Asking for nerfs as “nuke down retribution line” is just ridiculous as most of it traits are trash already there.

Also keep in mind that our utility skills are supposed to be stronger as we cant mix em. We are locked into them whenever we want or not. Nerfing rev is fine in some area but he needs desperate help in other areas. Something to keep in mind before you start b…..

For a game that "isn't grindy"...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aldath.1275

This is incredibly grindy.

I’ve been getting ready for high-end PVE content, and now I’m starting to see this MMO for being a “non-grindy pay-to-play” feels grindier than say…. TERA (f2p) or The Secret World (P2P).

In between the eternity you spend grinding for gold and materials to craft ascended gear in order to survive high level fractals, and the almost two years some people spend trying to craft a legendary (829 gold for total material cost, even with the Legendary Collection quests, is REALLY grindy and excesive) just makes me cringe.

250+ Laurels for some stuff, having to run arround the map doing events for Karma, zergs…

Isn’t this against everything A-Net said this game would be? I bought the game with the promise the end game wasn’t “grinding”…

I’m in no mood for silly alliance-horde – sorry, Luxon-Kurzick arguments that hold no backings. While I enjoyed the Kurzick aesthetics more, I found myself favoring one no more than the other. So I’ll just say this:

Kurzick juggernauts’ minds aren’t altered. They are sacrifices – willing sacrifices giving up their normal lives for psuedo-immortality dedicated to protecting their people and homeland. That doesn’t mean some don’t become a volunteer for the sake of something more personal and selfish, but all who become juggernauts know what they’re getting into.

Turtles can be raised to bear will will, just as “loyal dogs” can be through abuse. Animals don’t know concepts like honor – at least not in the same context that humans view them. I mean, hell, the Luxons use magical ambrite and jadeite to physical alter the turtles to make them larger (this is the core behind the Kurzick and Luxon struggle for getting amber and jadeite shards – Kurzicks use both in their rituals to make juggernauts, Luxons use both with their siege turtles, to both grow them and as ammunition).

Above that: what makes a man superior to an animal within Tyria?

Same thing as on Earth. The understanding of morals and ethics and the ability to act out on one side of the moral spectrum rather than the other.

Though some might say opposable thumbs.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I’d vote for Zhaitan. You need a group and I bet it’s hard to get a group nowadays. The whole instance takes a long time. The mini bosses are ok, but the final boss fight is like sitting on a turret and watch a movie. I guess the fact it’s a group fight as a story boss is just not good. I can’t do it with all my chars.

It’s soloable now. You can go alone or with up to four other people. It’s still long and a bit unsatisfying, though. :\

I had those same feelings once upon a time. Had them in Factions with Kaineng and again when I first ventured into the HoT maps. It just takes some time to get used to. Once you “learn” your way around, its not quite so bad anymore.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I don’t want to mention the details of the exploit. I encountered after a very trigger happy Revenant forced this exploit upon us. I don’t agree with or use exploits and since this knowledge I’ve seen people asking for Revenants to exploit this.

Am I right in understanding that appropriate action will be made against the players performing and requesting this ‘service’?

How do I go about reporting such behaviour should I encounter it again? Hope to hear more soon.

Are Fractal Encryptions worth opening?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: DrEckers.2039

DrEckers.2039

I have seen a lot of people either asking on the forums or posting in LA on whether to sell the encryptions on the TP or open them with Keys purchased from the Vender in the Mistlock Observatory. Current Wisdom is that you should open the encryptions with your daily keys and sell all extra encryptions on the Tp. That is completely false. It depends on what type of key you are using to open the encryption.

There are 5 different types of keys: Ones from Dailies, Deeply discounted keys bought from a vendor for 20silver, discounted keys bought for 25s, regularly priced keys bought for 30s, and keys from converting stabilizing matrices. For the purposes of this analysis, I will ignore any fractal relic cost, assume that the account bound recipes or items gain the player no money, assume that keys from stabilizing matrices cost the same as those from regularly priced keys, assume today’s prices on the tp and current fractal research listed on this reddit and the wiki is reasonably accurate.

The first step is calculating how much money you are expected to gain from opening a box. Current Research shows you gain 34s54b (or 34 silver 54 bronze) on average from the venderable trash in a box. In addition, you can put another 2s28b on top from the +1 agony infusions, t5 mats, and other sellable items you get from opening the encryption, the total average value contained in a box is 36s81b. In addition, you have a 10% chance when you open a Cracked Fractal Encryption (here after referred to as a chest) of getting an additional fractal key.

The main question is at what tp price it is more profitable to sell the encryptions than open them. I will consider the different cases of daily keys (free), deeply discounted keys (20s per), discounted keys (25s per), and regularly priced keys (30s per) based only on the venderable trash dropped on average trash plus the assumed average value of +1 Agony Infusions, t5 mats, and other sellable items.

Daily keys: On average, you will make 36s81b off these keys as they cost you nothing. Including the Tp tax of 15% (5% listing fee and 10% selling fee), the encryptions would need to be selling for at least 48s12b (which equals 45s/(.85*.9)=Sell Price/(Tax*chance at an extra Key)) on the tp for it to be worth selling the encryptions over what you would make by just opening the boxes with a key.

Deeply Discounted Keys: On average, you will make 16s81b by opening encryptions with deeply discounted keys. Similarly to the daily keys, the encryptions would have to be selling for over 21s98b for it to be more profitable to list the encryptions on the TP than opening them with deeply discounted keys.

Discounted Keys: On average, you will make 11s81b by opening encryptions with discounted keys. Similarly to the daily keys, the encryptions would have to be selling for over 15s44b for it to be more profitable to list then encryptions on the TP than opening them with discounted keys.

Regularly Priced Keys: On average, you will make 6s81b by opening encryptions with discounted keys. Similarly to the daily keys, the encryptions would have to be selling for over 8s91b for it to be more profitable to list the encryptions on the TP than opening them with discounted keys.

So in conclusion, it is:
1) Always more profitable to use the keys earned from the dailies to open your encryptions.
2) When using deeply discounted keys, it depends on a large number of factors including the current price of fractal encryptions, cost of the +1 agony infusions, cost of the t5 mats, and Lady Luck. Right now, encryptions are selling for 21s56b and being bought for 19s53b, so it would be marginally worth it to open the keys rather than sell them on the tp.
3) When using discounted Keys and regularly priced keys, it is better to just sell the encryptions unless the encryptions crater below 15s on the tp.
My personal habit is to buy up all the deeply discounted key each day and once a week go through a f40 farm to gain enough encryptions to use up all my extra keys.
