Describe a scenario where it is needed?

Anet specifically designed the game to NOT need ally targeting (removed targeted healing / enchantments). It was one of the major changes from GW1.

For example shout heal keep lord.

Anyone feels there is a lack of ally targeting skill in GW2? I think it makes the combat feels much less teamwork involved. I know there are shouts and ground targeting skills that affect allies but they are not as reliable because of aoe limit. Is there a reason it is not in GW2?

What I don’t understand is why the T3 servers are tanking. Are the dumb and meaningless rewards really worth this farcical tankfest?

I’d understand tanking for the previous two seasons. 7-9 weeks of getting farmed is usually bad for servers.

However, this tournament is only 4 weeks long. We’ve had stale matchups for far longer than 4 weeks. And this is 4 weeks where the current T3 servers would get a shot at fighting servers they haven’t seen in a loooong time (if ever), without the pressure of having to worry about the PPT game. If I were a diehard WvW’er on a T3 server, I’d absolutely make the push for Gold, considering how short this tournament is.

It is discouraging to the community no matter how short it is. Remember even casual pvers who never wvw will go there just for the skin and AP. What would you feel if you get crushed everytime you go to wvw? Now we have megaserver, the only thing that matter for world choice is wvw. Some people may try to go to a “winning” server.

DB tried going to gold once, three largest wvw guilds left after the tournament. I wouldn’t say that’s 100% the cause but it definitely contribute to the transfer.

If DB get into gold, I wouldn’t be surprised that we will pull another Maguuma. You don’t know how many guildies in the small PVX guild I’m in transfered after last tournament. Some SOS, some FA, I also considered transfering if EDGE didn’t come. Getting base kitten d isn’t fun. And fun is what keeps the pugs in wvw.

I will tell you why. Because over the pass 3 months, the casual pve guild I’m in dropped from 20people online on the weekend to now 5. On the weekdays, it is even hard to call for a dungeon run. Many people I know in GW2 went to try other games. GW2 is a great game for sure, but anything can get boring without changes in a long time. Our guild has beaten dungeons, guild missions, world bosses, now what are we gonna do?

Corrupt boon is too good to skip in 1v1.

I would also switch signet to Swalk if I know a fight is coming and have the chance to switch. Stunbreak is just better. But I know it’s not always possible.

I quite like key farm as it’s close to GW1 farming model. Short runs, reward in drop as oppose to straight gold.

As someone who login everyday and never had a precursor dropped for me, I think I deserve a little animation.

I don’t think it ever match Quip. It looks quite horrible tbh. The skills/sound effect can’t be spammed like Quip. The ridiculous sound effect spam is the appeal of the legendary imo.

I don’t own Quip though so my opinion doesn’t hold as much justice.

I never understood why the condition cap isn’t unique for every attacker.

Because they are debuffs.

For straight damaging condition like bleed or confusion, individual cap may work, regardless of technical difficulty.

But for other conditions, like vuln, it has to be stacked on the target since the effect affects all the damage taken by the mob. If it is calculated individually, vuln will probably only affect the damage done by yourself, which limits the team work.

Also how does it display on the target has to be in consideration. Different players has different condition duration, so how long does it show on the target? How many stacks does it show on the target? For now, if you see less than 3 bleeds on yourself, you probably just let it be, but what if 5 people each has 3 bleeds on you, how would that be properly displayed?

Sadly, I agree to most of it. Have a legendary, some fractal weapons, a bit of money. Dungeon I only see as way to get exotic armors. The 1g reward is just so low consider how much legendaries now cost. It doesn’t feel like progression at all.

I have 170+ MF, play everyday since release, and not a single precursor dropped. They said GW1 is title grind war. Sadly, GW2 is now worse.

For small guilds, it is actually good to have some random roamers help finish the mission. It is also a great way to meet/recruit new people.

At the same time I understand for big guilds they want to have all the people in the same instance and without the scaling from random people.

By sticking to one single class, it is almost inevitable at some point that you will find the class bad (and also good).

I main a necro, mostly. I spend most of my money on it. I do most new contents with it.
But I also leveled a few other characters. First is to change things up, keep it fresh and fun. Second is to learn their strength and weakness. I doubt one can succeed in pvp if never touched other classes.

You will never know what is lacking in necro if you don’t try other classes. And vice versa. You wouldn’t know how useful block is compare to a second health bar. Some may argue mesmer is a “better” class but in reality in dungeon, the dps always feels lacking and in wvw, you may only need like 2 mesmer in a 30ppl zerg. The Anet’s real son, warrior, success in all game mode, just feels so boring and plain after a while. I think if I keep maining only one class, I would have probably quit the game.

Necro is not that horrible. It won’t prevent you to complete any content. You may have to work harder in a few situation. And the disadvantage in pve mostly appear when you understand the game more and try to push for more efficiency.

In wvw, necro is, I would say, mid-tier in roaming and top tier in zerg.

Staff skills are BORING

But I agree it is little boring. The appearance is just disappointing. Staff 1 doesn’t look cool. And 2,3,4,5 look almost exactly the same although I’m sure pvper love it that way.

Of course Frontline exists.

Plague with Chill traits + sprectral armor + good runes and food is great in wvw.

You know how the tightly packed skill group always defeats the big Zerg with a long tail? Well Chilling traited Plague can give even a tightly packed skill group a long tail. This turns the hammer train into a hammer trickle, easily defeated. That’s worth a spot in a skill group.

It doesn’t need a melee or frontline necro to run “chilling plague”. Any necro that traited chilling darkness can run that. With stability, blinds, stats boost from plague, all the aoe share in frontline, with little defense stats, necro can hop in the train to plague with no problem.

They have made it clear on several occasions that PvE is not really considered in balances, not sure what you were expecting.

They have also said several times that they care about pve balance. Whether that is lie is up to question.

Downed state: we are the worste

I generally have an easier time rallying as a necro compared to other classes. 1 and 3 can hit fairly hard, and from my experience, if I’m downed and I down my opponent, as long as I have 1/4 to 1/3 of the downed health bar left I will defeat them and rally (provided, of course, that no one else interferes).

My guardian seems to be stomp fodder once downed. The knockback is easily countered and my healing doesn’t kick in until 3 is off CD.

Now, if we could still command a minion once downed, that’d be great. I’m sure we all would love to be able to FGC the player trying to stomp us

I think necro down state is one of the tankiest because of the siphoning #1. It still heals when our #4 is interrupted.

However we have nothing against stomp.

I only duel my guildie so he may not be the best war out there. zerker stance I just kite. I try to strip stability, might with corrupt boon, path of corruption. I find might worth striping too. Also I try to keep poison with scepter to minimize the healing signet.

Hammer train is not the damage that kill people, it’s the CC. Most of the damage comes from backline like necro and ele. (That’s why I suggest leaving the frontline job to the hammer classes and we necro do our own things.) There is no point to hummer bomb the frontline knowing they all have stability on. As a backline you will see the whole picture clearer. You will see your team’s hammer train try to cut off enemies front and backline. And same for the enemy. As a backline your job would be to move along with the frontline, bomb enemies’ backline. But you have to move from the outer radius, not go head to head like your backline.

so nobody things the original idea from GW1 was fine the way it was?
there is like , no detail, u can tell its an axe for the shape (duh) and thats it, nothing else needed, the GW2 chaos weapons set is overdoing it imo, and dont get me started with the glowing animation.

I like the GW1 version more. It’s like holding a lightning bolt that you can’t see the actually axe you are holding, but you are indeed holding a form of energy in axe shape.

1. Use zapv’s build,
2. Run right behind the hammer train.
3. Enter Death shroud on the first charge as soon as any stability you got from guardians wears off(the proc’d stability will get you past the static fields which get used at the start of fights),
4. then exit and dump your wells (gaining some protection),
5. Then enter plague and try to use your chill trait to disrupt the enemy hammer train.

It works.

Yes it works. I just don’t see the benefit running the whole time with hammertrain. Like…run it for the sake of running it. The only benefit as I mentioned is to share the AoE limit, and maybe save trait point from ranged wells for other trait line.

If you don’t run frontline as a necro against decent groups the gank squads will pick you off so kittening fast even in full zerker gear you are better off staying with your driver, especially if he is a guard. Sure occasionally you are going to have to pull off if kitten gets to heavy and you are getting focused.

Going backline doesn’t mean you just sit there all the time. I usually move along with the train, kind of in parallel way. Don’t let enemy get between you and your frontline. Join to limit damage and reset to get heals if pressure increases.

And yea, full soldier isn’t necessary. I suggest mixing in knight, cavalier, or zerker if you see fit. I’m not doubting the survivability as necro has more EHP than guardian plus our DS. Heck, my necro plague in the train running rabid from time to time.

Educate me if I’m wrong. I just don’t see necro’s need to run frontline. Middle maybe, but for front, I have doubt.

No cleave,
No blast,
No leap,
No knockdown,
Dagger 2, 3 require target,
(Almost) no stability
Our wells can ground target with trait

The only benefit to run front I can think of is plague+chilling darkness and aoe 5target limit.

I would rather stay in middle/back range, reduce armor to buff power and do what we do best, aoe pressure, boon stripping, fear.

I mean, we can run frontline and stay alive if build right, but why do we have to.

Depends on how organize your zerg is, condition isn’t very good in zerg. Organized guild raid can cleanse conditions in no time. Hammer train frontline have cleansing ire/purging flame/pure of voice plus melandru rune. And with the many water field, conditions just ain’t gonna stay long.

However, if your and enemy zerg are mostly pugs, who have little to no organization. Then it’s fine. I run fear necro in Eotm. Rabid with perplexity, 4/6/0/0/4. Depends on your build and playstyle whehter you need crit, full dire would work too. I don’t feel like the need to run carrion because of high hp pool and many cleanse/condi transfer we have but some like it. And scepter is the main condition weapon we have.

Guys, don’t over expect. You can’t expect the same treatment as thief.

btw, I still don’t understand the axe cleave arguement. Axe AA in my understanding is a slow sustain damage with vuln in preparation for spike like DS1/Axe2 in wvw/pvp. It is almost never the preferred weapon in pve. Making it cone cleave would apply vuln to multiple targets which I think is OP because guardian staff has no addition utility other than straight damage. It still wouldn’t be preferred in pve other than open world tagging as the damage is still horrible compare to other classes’ cleave weapon like war axe, whose damage output is closer to necro’s dagger plus vuln.

Dagger cleave makes much more sense since that would require enemies to be in tight group. Also the necro to be in melee thus greater risk. Compare to axe cone cleave that you just spam 111111 and everyone get vuln. I think dagger cleave is much more balanced. In pve, it straight up buff necro’s melee sustain to multiple targets when wells are in CD.

I like hammer for necro more. Although I find the ones Sors suggested too OP.

For example Mark of Fury you suggested, mark that immobilize plus fury and quickness. Either one of those is already super powerful.

The 4% LF gain is too much on a cleaving AA.

little rant: Sometimes it’s disheartening to see so many thoughts/suggestions fellow necros come up with yet the devs seem to ignore this community. Balancing thoughts, trait discussion, skill revamp, new weapon, I see these every single week. Yet all we get is skill fact fix patch after patch. I’ve lost most hope already.

I dont time my run and I often afk, surf or watch videos when I run it. However, from experience I like using a warrior more than guardian. I would kill 3 mobs in tutorial with 1h sword to unlock the leap for speed. Then use the GS to fight every mob after. The GS3 evade is good for survival and also running. I manually switch GS & sword to run. Also hospital route is better imo.

For the last story, I bring out a longbow instead. F1 is awesome aoe for the many mobs. And staying in range is very safe since all except 2 mobs have sword/shield.

I would like to know what setup other uses though.

I think teenage boy would like to choose himself…..

But for the build, really, all would work if you ain’t seeking 100% perfection.

Minion is great for open world. You can literally afk with that.
Staff+well build is great aoe and good for open world mob tagging and also wvw zerg.
power dagger is the best choice for dungeon. Although it could be a little risky and less rewarding than say a greatsword warrior.
Scepter conditionmancer is okay in most aspect. Good for wvw group roaming.

It just comes down to what he likes. Also notice, the utility skill is very interchangable. You can run a conditionmancer/power dagger necro with minion. Dagger with wells also works great. And Staff, every single build, power or condition can bring one.

There ain’t much to play in pve anymore so I want to focus wvw next season. But Idk if I should stay on this server.

Sad to say but NA time DB is always lacking. I love zerg. But commanders don’t always go to TS and even if they do, very few hop on to listen. And we lacks the number.

Is it the same for other server’s zerg? No point to transfer I guess if they are the same.

Is wvw guild a must to have fun in wvw? Rep is what keeps me away from joining because I don’t have a fix time to play and I afraid I’ll miss the raid and be kicked. Roaming is not an option for me sadly.

Every wvw season, big guild leaves and hurt the server more. I don’t like that but I understand because I’m considering the same. I know the SEA have been amazing but I also heard it’s falling because of problems within the big guilds.

I really dunno what I should do as my pve guild is still in DB but it’s less relevant now due to megaserver.

Condi Necros are hurting the game

Epidemic is great in add calling bosses especially in open world. It was just awesome in old crown pavilion. It’s a bag dropping button.

But in dungeon, yea things die too fast. First started fractal with condi necro, it worked because berserker gear wasn’t the norm and mobs ain’t dying as fast. But going up the fractal level, people even pugs use more offensive gear and there just isn’t enough time to stack bleeds.

EDIT: I’m also against any idea that suggests that defiant should stay as it is. It’s a very boring mechanic even when you make use of it. That’s why my suggestion is thought around the idea that defiant is only temporary and triggered at times: so that at any other time, you are free to use your CCs how you want and when you want.

Its only boring because theres no need to use it. If bosses were designed to really encourage interrupts and players actually learned how to coordinate it then I can be sure you would not find it boring. Anyway defiant is not supposed to be something that is interesting. Its a balance mechanic to prevent stunlocking and create some coordination in a group. The interesting parts of bosses should come from their own unique design not defiant itself.

As people have said. Some bosses could simply have certain attacks which are interruptible through defiant stacks. But defiant can still be in place to prevent stunlocking while providing the opportunity for regular stuns and interrupts of weaker attacks etc.

The biggest issue, that needs to be resolved before any changes are made, is boss attacks not going on full cooldown when interrupted. I would really like to see a devs response to this issue/bug? Is there a reason for it or is it an oversight? Because currently CC cannot be used reliably as an alternative to active defence. Which really has a negative impact on the use for CC.
