Downstate damage

Aktium.9506

If you recognize that the downed player is a high damage berserker player, then you should understand that his health pool and defense are extremely small, and it may be better to just cleave them down instead of stomping

Cleaving a downed Power Necro in a 1v1 or 2v2 fight is horrible advice m8. The right strategy is to go ranged and plink from 1000+ range if you can’t safely stomp.

Any 100% evasion skills like clones make it too difficult to determine which is the clone and which is the real character

Converting a player into a Moa is the most overpowered skill in the game

Holy kitten. My sides.

Git gud son. For real, you need to git gud. No one who’s played more than a week has a hard time to discern clones from the real Mesmer. And Moa is an easily dodgeable and telegraphed attack. And even if you get hit you can just run away.

2v2 and 3v3v3 modes for PvP would be pretty dope tho.

7 Armor sets? For what? You don’t need any armor sets for sPvP, and WvW and PvE require very little changes to armor. There are some really big diminishing returns when it comes to multiple armor sets.

What’cha got there is some dedicated hoarding. I don’t think they shouldn’t give more bag slots, but you might find it more reasonable to just invest in transmutation charges on the gem store instead of hanging on to so many items…

They’re mostly armor sets of the same stats. Only different runes and skins. But being able to switch runes quickly in WvW roaming is a great help before some fights.

I also already spend 20 transmutation charges or so per week across my characters. I would have to buy close to 300 transmutation charges a day to satisfy my need to look good if I were to only have one set of armor.

I am in agreement. We need 40 slot boxes so we can have a total of 360 inventory slots. 160 is far too little. I only have 5-7 free slots of inventory, which is problematic when I do any sort of content where you get loot.

that’s a sarcasm or you really use so much inventory slots? I think I have like maybe 6 or 7 bags on my main and it’s quite enough when you don’t carry all junks

No sarcasm. I desperately need more inventory space. I only have room for 7 armor sets. I used to have more sets but it was taking up too much space so I had to salvage them. With 360 slots I could have as much as 18 more armor sets complete with trinkets and weapons. Even worse, my bank is full as well and most of my 8 characters also have full inventories.

maybe i was oversimplifying, all i meant was it was Tage who the build was taken from. I don’t know enough about Tage or the guardian community to comment on the origin (though, it is likely that people will come up with the same build independently due to how traits are). all i mean is that it was Tage’s performance in WTS that brought the build into the meta.

Fair enough. An offensive meditation build has sorta always been hinted at by traits and meditations themselves. I’ve seen all kinds of iterations of it, the first viable one I ever saw was the one played by Bullet Punch. But yeah, Tage sure popularized the build.

Of course, if Anet plans on waiting half a year or more before they decide to do anything it could prove problematic.

The only thing that’s changed is Hammer over GS and Scepter over Sword with the points in Zeal put in Virtues instead so you could drop SYG for a 3rd Meditation.

Calling All Minion Masters

Aktium.9506

I would just make minions not doing anything without player input then add a little pet bar like the rangers over every minion icon on the utility bar or make a separate one in the same place as the ranger pets where the minion bars stack on each other. Then I’d give every minion an auto attack and 2 active skills. You’d have to press auto attack for them to start auto attacking like a player character as well. They would of course need to have their strength increased to reflect the now active player controlled playstyle. This would allow Necros players to use their micro skills. I’m completely against any sort of buff to them in their current AI controlled state.

and in the end you get one of these numerous MMOs where fights last for hours.

That’s a hyperbole if I ever saw one. You should never ever advocate buffing over nerfing. It will eventually reach a point where fights basically become tic-tac-toe with win-button skills. And that is horrible.

I’ve seen fights that are over a minute long without a single auto attack hit from scepter.

Those fights wouldn’t happen to be against Thieves and Medi Guards where you’ll be focusing more on trying to survive than killing would they?

All kinds of fights really.
On a somewhat related note, I use a hybrid setup with an axe instead of a scepter. So I actually try to avoid the auto attack if possible, and believe me it works. If I didn’t have the auto attack at all it wouldn’t make much of a difference.

As a longtime user of Axe/Focus instead of Staff on Power Nec, I’d say Axe is a bit of a special case because of the awful auto attack. When I use Axe I mostly get it for Axe 2’s life force generation and when I switch to it I mostly do something like Focus 5/Axe 3 > Focus 4 > Axe 2 as an opener so I’ll get some quick life force to enable early DS. I’ll use the auto on Axe to fish for sigil proccs if I’m close to getting someone down and they’re low.

Reminder that when everything is OP, it’s not actually balance as many players who are new to MMOs like to believe. I’ve played several games where it’s come to that and it’s awful. It’s always a better idea to nerf than to buff to avoid rampant power creep.

True but your sticking potential is higher. Especially with relentless pursuit, your own chills, leaps and the pull. Plus 25% move speed in shroud. You will walk into a fight and prevent people from leaving unless they burn cooldowns and anyone under 50% is essentially dead anyways. Either grave digger spam or your 30s aoe backstab with 100% crit chance.

Death’s Charge and Reaper’s Grasp are both only 600 range. A Mesmer or Thief will have a field day kiting the build I posted around. But I imagine it will be mildly satisfying the few times you manage to catch up to them and start mauling them.

The point is the potential is there. Even with 1 target it will still heal you for around 1.2k and do 1.2k damage. making a 2.4k hp swing is pretty big for just leeching.

Where the hell are you getting those numbers from. The base life siphon is 49 healing. With Bloodthirst its 59. With Healing Power you’re looking at maybe 70. Vampiric is even lower. So you’d get about 420 from the skill, another 200 from Vampiric trait. And if we assume you could somehow get your hands on some Zealot gear in PvP to make use of Vampiric Precision you’re looking at around 800, 900 tops.

Maybe closer to 1k actually i just assumed a little extra due to the possibility of the vamp aura that further continues to increase of our siphon. Its still a lot for 1 skill.

Those numbers were if you could somehow get Zealot stats. Without being able to trigger Vampiric Precision you’d only get 650~

And the new aura isn’t a part of the skill.

Enlighten me. Now, I said I didn’t have much experience as Condi Necro due to having spent most of my 2.5k hours on Necro playing variations of the same zerker build I’ve used since launch. What do you typically open with on Terrormancer? I see a lot open with Staff 3 then typically 2. Or is it better to start with Scepter/Dagger? I tend to start with Scepter 2 then go for 5 but the delay on those skills seem to make it so annoying to land reliably. I can land nades on Engi all day but Scep/Dag seem to be really troublesome to land consistently and not doing so is a huge knock on your DPS.

Also, I had this troll D/P teef ambushing me constantly in a duel server and giving me crap for not being able to beat him (I did generally force a SR and camping in stealth to remove condis). As a Terrormancer starting with little to no LF am I supposed to reliably beat D/P teef? I fully acknowledge that I’m not great at necro yet but if I’m supposed to be hardcountering something then I may have a ways to go.

I barely ever play condi, so I’m by no means an authority on it. I saw the light of zerk necro at launch and never looked back. But if you wanna play it safe as a condi nec, start auto attacking with scepter to procc any possible auto removal and possibly bait out a cleanse before you start stacking up on conds for real. You can reserve staff for when someone gets close and you’ll be having an easier time landing all your marks. Terror isn’t a dueling build so don’t expect to win against equal or better players without 100% DS. If you’re less than 50% DS you’re gonna have a hard time against D/P, best you can do is to try juking them with Wurm and Walk to get away and find a teammate when they’re on you. With Full DS you should be able to kill or force a disengage.

I would go with the run of the mill Terror build over the FitG variant. A single stack of stability won’t do much at all most of the time and Greater Marks makes it a lot easier to land marks on moving foes.

There’s not a lot.

If you run power you can do Dark Path > charge up LB and tap Doom at the same time as DP connects for 3 simultaneous hits to ensure all sigils procc, but this is wasteful and should only really be done on foes like PU Mes that you have to kill quickly before attrition wrecks you. Dark Pact > Double Wells > DS is the dream combo but will basically almost never happen, you can slot a Rage sigil to improve your chances of landing Dark Pact if you want though. Warhorn 4 can interrupt Shelter. Well of Corruption builds life force even tho its not supposed to. Stability is almost last on all your boon removals priorities. You can use Spectral Walk to jump from any height and survive. You can use Wurm and Walk for a shadowstep stomp. If you run Terror you should let Fears run out naturally before using another Fear on top of the previous Fear so the enemy can’t use a single removal to get rid of all your Fears at the same time. Cancel casting Spite sig so the signet appears over your head but doesn’t activate usually baits out a dodge. Random dodging as a Necro is a horrible idea for obvious reasons. Lots of environmental objects give life force like traps in the Obsidian Sanctum, boxes on Kyhlo(yes even the indestructible ones). Life Siphons hit through invulnerability.

That about covers it I think.

-No projectile defense, focus defense
-Still soaks the damage, now reduced by 15% if you manage to keep Chill on all attackers
-No alternative way to spend the Life Force
-No really interesting traits
-No direct boon support to allies, not even with might.
-Long cast times.
-No new Conditions on the Condition-based profession. No slow, no taunt

True enough. I hope it doesn’t ship this way, but hoping for good things always ends is disappointment so I’m just gonna be bitter about it instead. It’s cute to see newbies gush over unviable kittenty builds they try to theorycraft though.

Funny, people who left back then would probably say that all the good players left the game in the early days, leaving all of the bad players. I don’t really agree with either side.

And I’m not only thinking about dodges. I’ve landed many a Dagger #3 on someone coming out of a block/invuln because they get careless and don’t watch to see if they need to dodge the second it drops. The GS #3 ability hits 6 times in very rapid succession. The GS #4 pulses regularly while you’re doing other things. They gave Necros a built-in pulsing Stability in Shroud #3, which you can trigger, then drop out and heal if you’d like if you want to try to avoid those pesky healing interrupts.

I’m not saying it will be easy, but it looks like nothing new to me. Same old questions I’ve already looked into answering myself, with some interesting new answers with some of these abilities.

We will see. Just know this, when HoT releases and GS Necro is useless in the meta I was here to say “I told you so”.

Didn’t really look any slower than the rest of the Necro weaps, like Focus, Dagger MH (#2 and #3), Axe, Staff, etc.

But I can’t tell if you’re serious.

Also, LF generation on the Shroud #1 seems interesting.

EDIT – Prepping myself for the backlash on the heal.

Are you kidding me? I can’t tell if you’re serious. I know you just came back and everything, but let me tell you, you won’t connect skills like Focus 5, Axe 2 , Dagger 2/3 on competent enemies the majority of times. I’m not sure you understand how bad it is to have slow skills in PvP above kittening around in hotjoins or whatever. And from what I’ve seen of the damage numbers in the video even with Sentinel Amulet the payoff on hitting those sluggish kitten skills isn’t even remotely worth it.

I have no complaints about Reaper Shroud though. The Shroud was solid.

Also, cast times on shouts. You can’t even make this kitten up.

It’s a huge flaw to say “good players will always dodge any abilities with a long cast-time”. People said that about Warrior Hammer a long time ago. Then suddenly everyone started complaining about Hammer when I came back after a hiatus.

I don’t need to argue about this with you, because I can already feel you’re going to say “Well you played against bad people”. I’ve literally seen it all before. All I know is, when you feel like you have to dodge every ability, you’ll get caught by a player thinking 3 steps ahead.

Not to say “Well you played against bad people”, but player quality was a lot worse back in the days before Hambow became a thing. I already need to think ahead. I don’t go for the active play when I play Power Necro. I go for the pre-emptive play because going for the active play won’t work most of the time.

Besides, you’re only thinking about dodges. You need to factor in things like blinds, aegis, stuns, dazes, knockdowns, blocks, general iframes from blocks, evades and invulnerability being thrown around. Between all these things you need to hit those slow skills.

Especially nothing slower than what we already have.

You say that like Necro’s current slow skills and slow everything isn’t already a problem.

It sure isn’t ideal, but it works for me. And my point is more that people are acting like we won’t land a single attack because it’s going to be THAT slow when that is clearly not the case since the description already applies.

When the class simply doesn’t allow you to react to for example a Thief who rolls up to you and starts weaving Pistol 4 between attacks to daze you before you can get anything off because everything is slow to activate or cast it’s a pretty big problem I’d say.

Bait one of the interrupts by starting a cast and canceling it. Then they waste initiative for nothing.

My health is worth more than a Thief’s initiative. Besides, I already know how do use stow for cancels. It won’t do diddly to help against a Lockdown Mes or D/P Thief gunning for you when you’re low on DS or simply got no DS at all.
