Gems. You will take the exchange rate hit, but you will know that they will always float in step with the economy.
Everything else is speculation.
Vayne, I think your attempt to discredit lol is disingenuous. You know what he means. It’s why we have sites like gw2stuff and massive lagfest events that test the stability of the servers. Of the 1500 events, there are roughly 1% that are frequented by, from my two world completion travels, likely 80-90% of active players at any moment.
It’s ridiculous to see large groups just standing at these events… It used to be a social environment, but now, very few people even have conversations beyond meow meow meow where is messy shadow b why is he late ? Meanwhile, a couple of well meaning souls, who still care to complete the pre events, make sure the lazy entitled masses get their Rares.
This is what we get from guaranteed rare chests at these events and literally meow all at everywhere else.
I am working on my third legendary, at a meager 100g/week, but tonight I went on WvW because, well seeing the KA guild event in Iron Marches where there were 10-15 commander tags gave me a good picture of what is happening in PVE.
I’m not leaving the game, I’m not complaining .. I’m saying lol has a valid question.
For me, 32 years of gaming has taught me: no matter what anyone tries, all games are a grind. ANet’s idea of continuously updating content is the best approach I’ve seen. Perhaps what the game needs is to have ALL content by temporary.,.The Claw of Jormag just got killed? Guess what.. He’s DEAD. No repeats of the event.
If ANet can keep up with that type of update schedule, we may have our first truly grind-free game.
As it is, I see the base events in the same light as the storyline. They are a warmup to the living story.
Living story events are a grind? Yes! Do I think that it will always be that way? No! But, it will take time for the teams to ease players into a new way of thinking.
Me, personally, I want to have a high score. I have a lifetime of that built into me..these many achievements are our score. Humankind had evolved because of that competitive desire (not only, but a big part of). If that wasn’t the case, the USA would not be the leading country that it is (I am not American.)
Back to the question…
I don’t feel that ANet WANTS us to grind as much as we, regardless of what our conscious minds contradict, are conditioned in games and real life, to grind.. And it will take time to wean us out of that rut.
(Why do I write these on my iPad?? It takes just as long to correct)
(edited by Allisa Wonderland.8192)
Do you play other video games? Do the have scores? Do you like it when you get a good score in another game?
What makes this any different?
When I hear people saying " ap doesn’t matter," it sounds more like " I suck at the game, so I will make statements to minimize the validity of scoring to make my insecure self look less vulnerable than I really am."
FCS! It’s a game and has a score, like almost every other game that exists! Either buck up or get off the ride so the other kids can get their turn!
Ping, Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, etc etc.
The best thing ANet could do is shut down this forum so the complainers would either leave or spend more time playing than pouting,
I am not all PvP and WvW, so you’ve already failed at “everyone.” Implying that people you don’t even know agree with your statements renders your argument disengenous.
Temporary content sounds more like real life. If you miss it, there’s no do over!
I’m all for it. If I miss something, to bad for me!
Yeah indeed. And if you die you may never ever start GW2 again That would make it more real life.. You are all for it?
I do like that in those games some elements are not like in real life.. Like missing out on things and so on.
So what’s your point? I can’t tell whether you agree or disagree…
Which are “those” games? Do you proof read what you write?
Vayne,
Sometimes I find your content on the verge of trolling, but your last couple of messages in this thread are spot on. ANet is breaking new ground, and I pity the players who feel compelled to jump up and down, shaking their first about how the world is not how they feel it should be. Get over it! Play! Enjoy! It’s supposed to be FUN!
:)

Humming was awesome! More hum!
Why the need to play everything solo? Get some friends! It’s WAY more fun to adventure with other people.
I am mostly surprised this thread hasn’t been locked, yet. The staff might have been laughing a bit at the start, but after 7 pages of the same thing .. Over and over.. It is a rather depressing picture.
I sincerely hope Jane Player doesn’t think this is what the whole Guild Wars community is like.
The forum was quite helpful to eliminate my confusion. In fact, I discovered an easy way to see all armour skins!
This thread belongs I the suggestions forum, the way it is worded. If you feel that there was a recent change that has impacted the downed state, please restate it as such.
I have my rage moments when I get spam knocked down then smeared into oblivion by a group of obsessed foes.. But we do the same to them, why should they grant us mercy?
Perhaps your build has been affected by the recent changes, or perhaps you will benefit from a change in strategy. I have 80’s of all but the thief (42) and each works best with significantly different play styles.
Pay close attention to the mechanics of the foes downing you, and adjust accordingly.
I am definitely not saying “learn to play,” but “adapt.” I still cringe when I see “out of range” for my short bow attacks, while greatswords with laser beams from Mesmers behind me are causing damage.. But I am learning to adapt as well.
Good luck!
I like it. Thanks, Anet.
You didn’t play GW1? Your loss – times two.
Missed out on all that history.
And missed out on the points.
No sympathy. I’ll be rolling in my achievement points, laughing at the thought of you pounding your fists on the table, tears in your eyes, frantic that the people who founded the great continent of Tyria are being given another “thank you.”
I was only there for three years. I put on a party in Pre Searing Ascalon on the evening of GW2 launch. Gave away TONS of stuff – my own and plenty donated by others in our community.
There are still many of them back there, hoping that GW1 stays alive forever.
I beg you – please – don’t go bug them.
Outdone. Really have to dig deep into the complaint idea jar tonight, don’t you? Wow.
Three thumbs up.
“Insane prices.” This is exactly the problem.
Players all assume they are entitled to affordable exotic gear and legendary weapons, once they reach level 80. If this was the design, it would have been far easier to just have one level of item quality. It feels like an attempt to recreate the disparity of real life, and it is working.
As for game progression.. I’ll be here for a while, and I bet you the game will continue to get better and better.
I have played a lot of video games in the past 32 years, and I I feel GW2 is the BEST video game of them. Why is this the best? It gives me the most fluid, immersive experience. It looks amazing, the character control is unreal.
Sure there are optimization issues.. but that too will pass.
Tyria is my home, and I will fight to defend it.
This scenario is mirrored in real life. There are those who will go for the highest paying job, and work their butts off to make more money than anyone else.
There are many other ways to make money in this game. That said, there are many more currencies than just gold. Karma farming got a BOOST with the introduction of the daily jugs.
I do a run or two of CoF, each day, but it’s not the only thing I do. I have no problem with players who want to flip their way to riches, or grind their way to riches.. That’s how they want to play.
Why does it bother you that another player wants to be stinking rich?
CoF is a great supplier of gold, into the economy.
Finally.. Running CoF is a lot more work than farming dragon event chests – you have to move! You have to teach the new player how to stand in the hemispheres… It’s the only dungeon that has an appeal to all players. It also helps people to learn the mechanic.
All I hear is whining that you don’t want other people to make money if you can’t. If CoF is still an exploit since the teleport bug fixes, it’s one that ArenaNet is okay with.
My recommendation? Shorter dungeons. The time commitment to run paths in other dungeons, especially with pugs, is ridiculous for anyone who has obligations in the real world.
The worst thing that ever happened to me in FoTM was hearing that we had to do a BONUS dungeon, which of course meant I would be letting down four other people if I had to leave.
More paths, same difficulty, shorter length. I’d be all over the other dungeons if I knew I could run through the paths in 15-30 minutes vs 1-2 hours.
There is no rampant inflation…
Account bound drops.. More motivation to play fractals.
I’m at 2400 hours, including lots and lots of tunnel and plans farming, even SOD Zerg back in the day.. Best I got was a final rest on the day they admitted correcting the drop bug for it.
It feels like they the game has a “bag” of loot it distributes from.. Over time, less exotics. I find most of my exotic drops come in bursts or right after a patch.
I think it should be a beaver… Or a chainsaw..
I’m happy with it. BUT if anything were to change, maybe making it chop faster, like the sickle does.
Yep, quite often with yellow items. I’m a little supremes no one on the test servers has noticed this yet,it is quite obvious.
I’ve read this thread.. and others about COF, and there is one thing missing:
Citadel of Flame is the ONE dungeon that you can get everyone to run. Everyone wants to make gold running the legendary CoF p1 speed runs!
Think of it as the gateway dungeon. This is the dungeon where dungeon noobs come to cut their teeth, and it’s fantastic for that.
Once players are comfortable with the mechanics of the bosses, etc., it gives us more confidence to beat down the doors of the other dungeons.
It’s good to have CoF, just as it is. It still requires teamwork, even if that teamwork is how to port through the boulders or cleanly dispatch the acolytes.
@Im Mudbone: I think you’re the one who needs to re-read… THERE IS A SALES TAX ALREADY.
@LordByron: You really have no idea what you’re talking about, and trying to make up new things to defend your ignorance. Instead of puffing up and jumping around, go read some books on the subject matter.
I’ve crafted two Legendaries so far, both with bought precursors (I’m not much of a gambler).
I suggest:
1. up precursor drop by 10x (or so) to bring the price down or likelihood of getting one
2. up the units of non-buyable items (WvW / dungeon)
3. crafted weapon is account bound (soul bound on use)
Three EASY fixes that require very little programming.
You get:
1. takes more skill less gold
2. still has the challenge of the original plus more
3. you HAVE to do the grind if you want it, so it’s a real sign of achievement when you see someone with it.
Making a collection of achievements that are necessary would be nice, but I’m looking at this from the perspective of the developers. Making a whole new way of attaining Legendaries opens up the can of bugs… remember the first precursors?
And PvP is the antithesis of one of my favourite features: reviving instead of killing other players. If this is the path ArenaNET indeed wants me to take.. is there anything in the pipeline from other companies that will be a worthy alternative? Neverwinter is not going to be it, and Wildstar’s graphic style isn’t what I’m after… PM please to avoid hijacking this thread.
(1) level 69 on the Mesmer now.. so close…
(2) just checked – I do have it
(3) I bind TAB to closests and Q to next. I believe the problem is related to the field of view coded into the targeting system for determining what your intended target is. It feels like the horizontal spread of the FOV was narrowed to avoid shooting things off to the side, but when strafing around targets, if I fall out of the narrow field, the firing stops – and doesn’t pick up when I get them back. I have autotarget on, promote skill target on, right click and doubleclick … wait a sec, I see there are two options for attack/interact now.. with both on. I’ll experiment with that.
(4) isn’t the medium armor and lesser damage per arrow balance this? Seeing hundreds of points damage per shot vs. thousands of points damage from warriors and guardians. It feels already balanced… and thinking from a historical perspective, as you say, I feel that’s the whole point of a ranger — keep the enemy from getting too close. IF any get past the arrow fields, well then you’re out to lunch.
(5) I <3 dodging, jumping , have the animation timing solid, etc.. I’ve done my runs through TA, plenty through CoF. I still prefer using the bow — but when compared to other weapons I feel a significant reduction in combat effectiveness, beyond using the rainbows to direct people to targets
All this in spite of the fact that the pet attracts aggro and ruins the ranger’s ability to run more than any other class I’ve experienced it with.
I don’t mean to sound defensive about my skills, but after 2300 hours i’d be pretty disappointed in myself not to be pretty good. 6,205 achievement points.
If you’re up to it, I’d love to join you on some run around and compare notes on our fighting.
You play the guardian too… do you find it’s so much easier to solo that the ranger? I never feel I have to run from anything, AND I have a plethora of support skills.
Thanks for your very thoughtful message!
I have 6 of 8 classes at 80, and just getting my Mesmer there now.
If I didn’t have Dreamer, I would stop using my ranger. Ranger was my favourite class in GW1.
Short bow has no AOE.. So the only way I see to keep up with the number of targets other classes hit is tagging as many foes as possible by next targeting after each shot.
This worked better, earlier in the game, but at some point ArenaNET increased the amount of damage you must do to a target to get credit. That’s fine and was more consistent with other classes.
Then, for reasons not related to the ranger (at least in PvE) the quickness Sigil got adjusted. Previously, it enabled two shots before next target. Now, the extra damage in return for slower shots doesn’t quite do enough damage (ex: in CS)
Next, the changes to the targeting system have made it very difficult for target selection. I cannot target with my mouse if I am using the right mouse for navigation. Even when it does find a target, I have to STOP before I can get it ito fire. I usually use 2-button for running since it works with rt mouse navigation.
Now, the SB (which does less damage than the LB when traits/buffs/etc aren’t consisted) having a shorter range means that it is even harder to get enough tags. On top of that, right now in the animation I’m still seeing my rainbows fire past the new maximum range, which it did not do before. The rainbows and unicorns make it very obvious the distance of the animation..
Watching the short bow from a side view, I must say that if I could only shoot that far in real life, I’d be embarrassed – for a professional marksperson to have that kind of range is silly.
ArenaNET: if you want to make something better, please make it better on its own terms, not by nerfing innocent bystanders.
Ranger is the bow class for this game, so why make bows so unattractive? Especially with all the work you put into the design of the Legendary item for the weapon class.
Please a) fix targeting and b) give us back at least SOME range.. 1200. Heck, how about making LB even more range?
I noticed, in my son’s chat, that he received a “——-”
Turning off the filter revealed that your language censoring system has “Polla” in it’s library. Does this mean you’ve got an item in the gem store with a rude name?
Picking up loot is the most frustrating part of the game, to me. Worse than jumping puzzles.
AOE loot is a huge improvement — just take the loot pickup completely out of interact, and make it work at all times, not just when random NPC’s decide their useless banter is more important than the loot beside them.
Even as is, and I am a thorough loot hunter, I see a marked increase in the amount of items that show up in my inventory.
During Southsun, some of the foes dropped “Bags of loot” in the same way as WvW. This was FANTASTIC. In the same way that you added the rare boxes (and thanks for all those useless Putrid Essences), please make non-box drops show up as labelled bags instead of sometimes imperceptible sparkles.
I also noticed that I can run the mouse over foes to find out if they have loot, but that is completely non functional as someone who uses right mouse button constantly for travel.
It’s nice to have the timers for more chests, like the Dredge and Modnir. I don’t even bother with Jormag anymore.
Troll club is out on full force, I see. Thanks for the analysis!
About 2300 hours on my main account, since 9pm on the 24th of August.
Showing time online for users, on the forum, would not always be accurate. My primary account is not the same as the one Log into the forum with.
I love my Dreamer, and the positive side effect of the latest patch is even less people will be using them.
I love my Twilight, I made only because I purchased Dusk before seeing Bifrost in person. But, while crafting, I discovered my new love, which is a support Guardian, and her extremely invasive weapon.
There is an aspect of Legendary weapons that has nothing to do with their aesthetics, and that is the expectations on the owner.
If I walk into a small battle, the Twilight’s black strokes make me the dominant graphic on most players screens. If I play like an idiot — everyone sees it, so the resulting visibility makes me step up my game, and to be an ambassador to the World of Tyria. I am regularly asked about what my weapon is, which I’m always happy to oblidge.
The Dreamer’s Unicorns and Rainbows act like a directional beacon. When I chase baddies in Orr, I get groups of people following me because they can clearly see where the next target is.
What I’m hearing is that there needs to be two completely separate balance teams.. one for pvp, and one for pve.. and they must never be allowed to speak to one another.
I worked my butt off for 2300 hours and now have two Legendaries (no precursor drops, crafted both of them) and very little cash.
Works fine for me. Stop complaining and make a plan to get your Legendary!
2300 hours. Ive crafted two: The Dreamer (bought Lover for 182g) and Twilight (bought Dusk for 570g).
Six level 80’s: Ranger, Warrior, Guardian, Necro, Elementalist and Engineer.
About 90% of my time is open world PvE with one map completion, one toon at 89%, one at 82%, and one that I am working on at 70% .. so I’ve been around. Many CoF p1 runs, WvW, jp..
I made some money with mini trading, but sold off most of them to finish off the last of the Twilight recipe. No flipping.
Not a single precursor drop. Rarely any exotics, either. It seemed to make a bit of a difference when I had MF armor on my ranger, but that was quite a while back now and I’m pretty sure we were getting more loot in the early days as well.
My next Legendary, I will buy outright… just straight cash, no need to run long dungeons with hit or miss pug groups or worry about Lodestones, etc.
I could have saved the gold instead, and did trading post flipping to make more.. but I like the challenge, and reward, of putting the time in. If I get a precursor one day, fabulous – but in the meantime, I’m just playing and having fun.

No problems after patch or now, on CD world.
What’s wrong with karma PVT armour, other than the need for a helm?
I would like the wedding attire from GW1 please, so I can carry on my signature look.
Oh yes, that also requires bright pink hair colours.
And the female Necro hair style to top it off.
.. For use in combat, perhaps?
Thank you!
Yep. Same here. What a let down to finishing the effigies! The bug team needs their own QA?
.. and I love Dontain but he’s way off base on this. Because he speaks it doesn’t make it true. Ask him what his business development experience is, other than making his Razer sponsored YouTube channel (notice I am plugging him while saying this!!)
A
NCsoft paid for this game. No NCsoft = No GW2, simple as that.
Oh yes, and since I am going for Lengendary, I was keeping the mats, so no 15% TP tax.
A stack of ectos and 250 skill points for The Anomaly nets you a maximum of 42g going by ectos at 20s (at the time of this writing). That’s 16s per skill point.
When C-dust was 38-40s, I was getting a little more than that, and I needed the clovers (and the extras sell at 6s40c so not too bad).
Ran Plinx again tonight, killed Broodmother again. The events are still there, just need people to call out and organize the events.
@per fection. 1. Yes, that’s what I said – the clovers were not a “mad to get mats” experience because of the value of the materials and low price of the ectos at the time.
2. it is now, wasn’t then. If you have so many great ways to use your skill points, feel free to share your great wisdom like Optimus has.
.. and by “very rare,” expect that to be 0.001%, if not worse. (has anyone figured out the correct number of 0’s yet?)
You want boosters, just buy them directly. Karma booster is the only thing I find value in. I use crafting ones sometimes, but never paid attention to the benefits.
From what I’ve seen of Wildstar on YouTube, I’ll stay with Guild Wars 2.
As a business owner, I feel that it’s unreasonable to expect that the company should spend all the money on only one thing. How would companies innovate new products?
Legacy games that a lot of us still love, like Guild Wars 1, also benefit from spread the wealth.
It’s not like the companies are out to scam you, take your money, and spend it on something else. They are doing the same thing as every other software development company that has more than one product.
And what do you use your skill points for? I have hundreds on my various toons…
I’ve been running around the rest of Tyria, finding lots of great spots for a little farm here, a little farm there.
I called together a few people to shut down the Champion Abomination (end of Plinx run) last night.. it happened, we killed him (MUCH better battle location now, thanks ArenaNET) and then went on to battle the Broodmother for far too long…
.. but that too long turned out to be just enough for Plinx.
The group kept together, powered through the Plinx run, then did in the Champ Abomination again.
After that, I moved on to another area to avoid “drops DR” (not events DR).
If you have a few people together and a few good chains throughout the continent, there’s lots of farming opportunity.
And PSSST, the T6 mats come from the clover recipe….
After all the changes, did anyone realize that the easiest way to get T6 mats is by making mystic clovers?
When ectos were cheap and dust was expensive, this was a good revenue generating opportunity, instead of a painful experience of trying to get clovers out of the toilet.
So, with all the talk of shortages and and Cursed Shore nerfing, I figured Anet realized that there was a good supply source, but now I get the impression they don’t remember their own forge recipes…
It feels like the devs are trying to make targeting smarter, but since mid south sun I have been having a heck of a time with oddly chosen targets with my ranger. There was a sweet spot a few months back where everything worked, but I think the latest experiments are not working as planned.
