Meh, the 450 stuff won’t get you very much experience. Technically speaking, it’s more optimal (experience-wise) to do it that way, but in the long run, it won’t make much difference. You’re going to get the huge majority of your experience from exotic crafting. I typically start with the most valuable items to get more gold back.

Philosophy Shift to Less Choice

Things are different now.. not really less choice, per se. After all, they have been pretty consistently adding new things to do.

When change happens, some people are always going to feel like they’re being “forced” to do one thing or another, because they have an external locus of control. That’s probably the biggest difference between the sides in this debate honestly: nearly everyone in favor of the new systems has responded with “I still do whatever I want to do and enjoy it.”

In order to get that we’d need an expansion imo, which I would be delighted with if we got one. I have to agree this game is BEAUTIFUL and the joy you get from many of the sights makes the game really special – but we need a bigger world and I don’t think we’re going to get it with the LS. I’ve enjoyed the LS but its just no replacement for expansions – remember GW1 had 3(?) by now.

I’m going to keep saying this until it kills me, but there is NO REASON for an expansion in this game. LS in fact CAN do anything an expansion can do, just not all at once, and, get this, you can have it FOR FREE, if you’re just willing to WAIT a little while for all of it.

In addition, preparing an expansion would be a monumental undertaking when all of the company’s internal processes are centered around the current, iterative release model. People often fail to consider just how much time it would take to completely overhaul the inner workings of the studio, just so they can take a year to make something they could have been slowly releasing the whole time.

“Having to due content twice to get rewards for Living Story is just lame!”
On what Earth are there video games that don’t have you repeating things? And are you seriously complaining about optional rewards?

“Charging returning players for Living Story content, bad idea.”
Yeah, if they couldn’t unlock it just by logging in during the story. Otherwise this is nearly identical to the model presented by online TV streaming services, which is a good idea.

As has been said time and time again, there will always be an optimal style of play, and people will always converge upon it. The different stat combinations exist so you the player can find whatever style of play you like best, but with the caveat that for any given activity, one of them will be the most efficient.

By the way, DPS will always be the most optimal for PvE, regardless of how it is achieved, because maximizing DPS is the way to minimize time spent.

Ok, I am now ready for the white knights to trounce me for my point of view.

Way to encourage constructive conversation.

Also, you’re going to have to just accept that the amount of time you’re putting into the game is not sufficient to achieve the goals you have set for yourself. So, you have two options:

1. Play the game more so you can achieve your goals
2. Accept that your goals are unrealistic, and stop wasting time on them

A huge percentage of the problems people have with this game can be traced to the inability to reconcile the things they want vs. the effort they’re willing to put into getting them. Important to keep in mind is that nothing you do in this game matters in reality. Who cares if you never get a legendary? You probably won’t even be talking about this game in 5 years.

I approach GW2 the way I approach life. Possessions are nice, but experiences are the reason to keep going. Just play the game and try to enjoy it, and if you don’t enjoy it, take a break. (I don’t recommend that exact approach for life, but you get what I mean)

Unfortunately, at this point of the game, Gw2 needs a major overhaul of it’s game format if it wants to keep up &keep it’s player base & get new ones interested. There’s just no buts & why about it. There loosing numbers every month. & in the end, nobody cares about mounts & new weapons skins or even new content if ur character cant get more power. Gw2 lacklusters in the game excitement department… shame!

I disagree. Where are these numbers? People can talk all they want, but if you want to make the claim that an expansion is needed or the game is dead, you better bring some facts. From where I’m standing, everything is going fine, and Anet doesn’t need to reconsider any of their goals. Unfortunately for this discussion, we can’t see their earnings, but taking a look at how the developers and staff that visit the forums are talking, they certainly don’t seem concerned at all.

There’s a viral mindset here on the forums that everything is done for if the vocal minority doesn’t get what they want. I think that sentence itself is sufficient to explain why that mindset is wrong.

I’m of the inclination that they will not, and should not release an expansion. Anything they could introduce with an expansion, they can do with the Living Story, and changing their entire model for releases this late in the game would not only look bad, it would require a huge overhaul of their company processes, significantly detracting from time that could be spent developing new content.

All the complaints

Andred.1087

I’ve noticed there is a handful of players…. (about 4-5) who do literally nothing but trash talk every single update anet adds to the game.

Worse yet there’s a handful of players who do nothing but excuse Anet’s poor choices and praise them for everything they do.

You imagine there are people like that, but you are mistaken. The majority of people I’ve seen defending Anet’s decisions are in response to absurd demands from the same short-sighted, selfish individuals who are constantly whining and claiming that they alone possess the insight to guide this game to success.

Think about it… why would people jump to defend Anet without cause? I can’t think of any good reason to explain that behavior, whereas it’s very easy to explain the opposite. It’s quite unlikely that there is a group of people who are 100% satisfied with every decision Anet makes; conversely, it makes perfect sense for there to be a group of players who disagree with everything because they think they’re right all the time.

You may have guessed that I am one of the people frequently defending Anet’s decisions on here. That is not to say I do so because I agree with everything they do, but rather, I don’t care enough about the things I disagree with to throw a temper tantrum every time something changes. As long as I’m enjoying the game, I’ll play it, and when I’m not enjoying it, I won’t play it. There is absolutely no need to behave in the way these aforementioned trash talkers do, and god forbid anybody claim that they’re being unreasonable, or refusing to see reality because that would make them wrong, no, that individual that dare challenge even the most ludicrous of dissents is immediately labelled a “white knight” and therefore discredited. It’s no wonder people can’t get along on here.

This, i have learned, as the ANet is far, far removed from what their playerbase wants.

People really need to stop using the word “playerbase” to mean “QQ bandwagon on the forums.” The opinions expressed here on the forums are much more often those of hardcore players with ridiculous demands that Anet has no reason to appease at the cost of giving their thriving playerbase more content that the majority of players will enjoy.

The storyline

Andred.1087

Eh. The story is far from stellar, but I mostly just pay attention to the important plot points and get on with it. It doesn’t really bother me anymore. After all, it’s a T-rated game; there’s only so much they can get away with, legality-wise and complexity-wise. And now they have China’s stricter censorship laws to worry about, too.

Also, MMO’s in general suffer from uninteresting story, given that every player is supposed to be the same hero that unites the factions and saves the world.

Anyhow, I tend to just be OK with it.

You can play whatever content you want whenever you want and how much or little you want, and you will still progress similarly to other players doing different things. The only reason anybody dares come on here and completely misuse the “play how you want” quote is that they want the rewards more than they want to work for them.

In fairness, you can buy the black lion skins from other players, with money you can obtain from gameplay, and better yet, since you’re buying it, you don’t have to do anything specific to get it. It would be nice to have considerably more in-game skins added, but it’s not terrible now.

As for the rest, I totally agree. People are always coming on here, foil hats at the ready, devising all these reasons why ANet does this or that and how it’s all terrible and the game is doomed. As far as I can see, ANet is doing better than ever, and people are still largely satisfied with the game, forum-outrage-bandwagoners aside.

Or maybe they just want to spend time with their families over the holidays, instead of frantically trying to churn out the last LS episode and respond to inevitable bugs?

In response to the OP, I’ll keep it brief: Living Story is a fine and interesting method of delivering content that, despite vehement dissent from a very vocal minority, has proven quite successful. I don’t foresee ANet moving away from this model for GW2 anytime soon, and I’m perfectly willing to accept that and play whatever they release, as much as I want to and no more.

As for the PvP dailies, they could do other interesting things with it, like last night I noticed two of the sPvP dailies were “Guardian Winner” and “Necromancer Winner.” I imagine, then, there were more Guardians and Necros in PvP last night, which mixes up the game a bit from the usual.

The development team is still actively working on improving the game and introducing new content, and there are still healthy numbers of players logging in and doing a variety of content. It may seem on the forums like a lot of players are dissatisfied with the game, but the percentage of a game’s players that ever visit the forums is generally quite small, and GW2 is no exception.

Stop playing around Anet. If you cant afford data analyser here one tip for free: YOU ARE LOSING, PLAYERS ARE QUITTING.

What is Anets recipe for 2 years of steady downhill? More of the same. More of same stuff that makes people quit in first place. Its like you want to kill this game.

I suspect they can afford a data analyzer or two, and what they’re seeing is just not at all what you’re saying. Living Story has been quite successful, especially this season, and frankly, if you still think this game needs an expansion, you couldn’t be more wrong. There’s just no way to justify an expansion at this point. Living Story can do anything an expansion could do for GW2, it just won’t be all at once, and you get it for free.

It’s called Guild Wars 2 because it’s the second game in the Guild Wars series. Jesus. That doesn’t require it to be the exact same game. Rather, it kind of requires it not to be.

kitten if you refuse to like the game, go find a game you do like! It’s a lot more fun than complaining about one you don’t like but apparently play enough to complain about it.

I had no real issue with it, and I actually rather enjoyed it until I came on here and saw all of the people complaining about it. Most of the objections I’ve seen appear to be usual QQ / anti-LS bandwagon, though.

But that would remove the rather important option of getting the carapace boxes from repeating the story on different characters.
