You’re right, let’s just have everything in the game handed out for free or at vendor price and hope Anet someone ends up with millions of dollars in revenue from box sales to sustain itself

I wonder why you don’t want to understand that they don’t have lock every new skin behind a paywall. Not to mention that they could’ve pushed for an expansion to get new money.

Expansions are out in the MMO world. They’re a thing of the past, and ANet is not going to make any for GW2. And are you forgetting the entire set of skins that got released in Dry Top? Maybe you don’t like them. I don’t really, either. They’re still not locked behind paywall.

Expansions are out? GW1 did perfectly well with them

GW1 was 8 years ago. You have yet to present an argument that makes sense.

And by the way, it doesn’t matter what either of us think about expansions, ANet has already made very clear they are not making any for GW2, so I don’t know why people are still having this discussion.

Not sure why people are kittened at Anet. Key farming was here a lot longer than it was supposed to be. Anet was shooting themselves in the foot by having it in game for so long.

It’s about time we have weapon prices that are now in line with the risk of gambling on buying keys. It was a market inefficiency that had to be corrected.

Yeah, if you want to kill your game most effectively, you should lock all your new weapon skins and armor skins behind paywalls, that’s the perfect way to go.

I feel like I’m the only one around here who recognized that GW2 operated on a system where you would have to pay for extra vanity/skins. Thank goodness we don’t have to pay for extra stats.

And I guess we can completely ignore the currency exchange just to suit your argument

Oh yeah, wonderful argument. All players are completely capable of dumping 18g for one key. /sarcasm

18g is pretty easy to get… and if you don’t think it’s worth it, don’t buy. They’re just skins.

I suspect the downed state change is something they implemented for the Chinese release, as I would believe that many Chinese players were confused by it initially (not saying anything about their intelligence, I’ve just worked with a lot of Chinese people and I can see this happening), and since it works fine, and they’re already merging a bunch of other changes from the China release, that’s probably what it’s about.

A question on behalf of veteran players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Andred.1087

They are making some pretty neat changes to the game. I do have to agree that I, as a veteran player, am feeling increasingly unimportant to them. But it is just a feature patch. Perhaps they do have plans to introduce significant, permanent content updates for veteran players to enjoy, and it’ll just take 3 more years because the Living Snoresville is super great and important and unique and it’s the only thing anybody wants right now, right?

Sooo, there is going to be new skills ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Andred.1087

Andred.1087

actually yeah, more living story seems to be what the majority of players want.

I also like that they’re still balancing current skills to remove any over powered ones, and trying to buff under powered ones.

The last thing we need is more over powered skills. or under powered skills.

I suppose I have to disagree. I see more people clamoring for skills, dungeons and dungeon fixes, pre cursor crafting, etc.

I don’t see people salivating for the next crumb of the story to be released.

That’s because people who are happy, are playing the game not complaining

suggestions for added variety and flavor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Andred.1087

What exactly do you mean by “easy to implement?”

More haircuts I imagine takes a lot of time, and besides, why not release them in the gem store for more money? A unique character voice for each face? They probably have fewer than 10 voice actors on staff, as do many, many games. And what, will they record all of the personal story dialogue again with dozens more voice actors? And new music? Jeremy Soule is long gone from GW2. You’ve got a lot of good ideas but this is far more a wish list than any set of feasible suggestions.

Not that it affects how much ANet will consider them at all, because that amount is zero. And yet so many “suggestion” threads every day. Perhaps “this would be really cool so let’s talk about how much we would like it, keep in mind though, it’s never happening” would be more accurate. A touch lengthy, I admit.

I’ve been doing Teq every day for a long time, and in all my experience this is the case. No, I’m not going to provide proof, as that would take far too much time to assemble. But yeah, this is pretty universally accepted to be true, so if you can’t prove otherwise, then you probably shouldn’t be going around telling people they’re wrong.

Suggestion: Advanced graphics options

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Andred.1087

Andred.1087

You seem to know a thing or two about standard video game graphics options, but I think you underestimate the amount of effort it would take to implement these features in a several years old graphics engine that may have been developed by people no longer at the company. They can’t just throw a slider in for view distance and call it a day if their engine can’t handle more view distance efficiently. They can’t just split up the post processing options if they didn’t design the engine for doing them independently. Etc.

Granted, I’m not a graphics programmer, but I’m quite certain the reason these features are not in the game is that ANet simply does not have the resources to invest any further in developing a perfectly acceptable graphics engine.

Still, they’re pretty good suggestions. I just don’t think they’re ever going to touch that part of the game again, and that’s probably for the best.

Most of those may not excite you

Indeed.

- PvP rewards… great on them, they need more love, but I don’t do PvP.
- Class balance changes… mostly pretty minor and no new build options since launch.
- Commander tag… I have taken advantage of this, at least.
- Minor crafting QoL feature… snoozeville. still nice I guess.
- New back pieces… already got one thanks. btw they appear to be designed to the benefit of players who are not yet max level crafting?(??) VagueNet strikes again
- New leveling items… explicitly for new players.
- Profession loot… useless to anybody who already has what they need or the means to get it.

Looking at what’s been announced so far, there’s a decent number of arguable features that are sparking a lot of debate, padded with a lot of overdue fixes and humdrum tweaks.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Andred.1087

Getting money is all about finding the right things to do. You have to be doing max level content. Leveling alts isn’t going to bring in the gold. And not all max level content is created equally. For instance, if you do a Fractal run every day, you get 1g in the bonus chest. Same for Tequatl. If you do both of those every day, that’s a minimum of 2g straight currency, in addition to whatever you can make from the drops you get.

Karka farming is a great way to get gold at the moment. 3-5g an hour, and you barely have to pay attention; if you have a second monitor or a TV within sight, you can watch something! I usually do it for about an hour, finishing up with karka queen, but if I had a lot more shows to watch, I’d probably do it several hours easy.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Andred.1087

Andred.1087

There pretty much isn’t a line. You could kick someone because you don’t like the way they look, and as long as you had another person agree with you, they’re out. They can then report you, but for what? Using an in-game system in the way it is intended to be used? How would the moderators be able to distinguish that scenario from one in which the kick was warranted? If they can’t reliably do that, they will have to be reluctant to issue punishment. It reeks of futility.

Things that have been said way too many times:

1. “ANet can’t win no matter what they do” / “make up your minds”
Yeah this is called “people disagreeing with each other” and it happens literally all the time at any place where there are 2 or more people. This is not a reason for them to be quiet about potential upcoming features. Trying to avoid backlash is not only futile, but harmful, especially when you’re prone to miscalculation (see commander tags, instance ownership).

2. “The players are unhappy”
On the forum, which probably doesn’t even account for 1% of the player-base. While this is the main avenue for player communication with ANet staff, it is hardly a perfect representation of what the majority of players want.

3. “It’s not fair for someone to spend 2000g in the MF and get nothing when someone else spends 400g and gets Dusk”
If the forge had a sign posted “2000g for a precursor” then yes, this would be unfair. But look, it’s RNG, and it works as intended. You may not like it, but everybody rolls the same dice, and that’s fair.

Surely there are not this many people just now realizing that you can’t please everyone. Why does everyone act so surprised when some in the community disagree with a change? It’s going to happen every time, there is no need to say this.

Besides, this is a legitimate concern that has arisen from the fix. They may have solved one problem, but without the proper checks in place, there is now another problem. It’s not just black/white like/dislike.

There is zero chance this is not against the rules, because I presume ANet has rules for their developers, and any decent human beings would include “don’t kittening boot players because they’re annoying you, that’s not cool.”

I have to agree with Romek, somebody wasted time and money paying for a blog post to be written up about overdue fixes presenting them like some long-awaited content updates. Honestly if I saw all of the things in today’s blog post in patch notes it would make perfect sense.

- Fixed issue where instance owner leaving dungeon kicks party
- Added ability to view subcomponent recipes in crafting UI without closing current recipe
- Lots of performance tweaks

Not to say I’m not happy that they’re fixing these things. Again, these changes have been needed for a long time.

I know we’ve been asking them to communicate more, and they are with these posts, all I’m saying is, hopefully tomorrow’s blog post will include actual features, and not just a bunch of things that don’t need a big announcement and probably should have been patched ages ago.

Per this interview I suppose Fractal is an option. But I believe it was made clear some time ago that they are not working on dungeons anymore.

What I took away from the interview is that they let slip they may be working on new dungeons.

He mentioned Fractals and the Acheivements from season two episodes, the former allowing them to create whatever they want (Aetherpath is a “rework”, which had to be designed around something that already existed and had to be preserved (i.e. difficult work)). The latter is a neat idea to incentivize repeat runs. But they didn’t want to create something like Hard Mode, which requires rework-effort, let alone a new path for existing dungeons.

In context of the question asked him, the eight dungeons we have now will not see any major changes.

Well, I’m all for new dungeon content. I just wouldn’t get my hopes up. Maybe, though.

Well, I wouldn’t say there’s a remotely high chance at a precursor, but I think it’s more likely than regular mobs, and even if I’m wrong, it gives good loot otherwise, with a decent chance at some worthwhile drops.

Other world bosses don’t come close to Teq/Wurm (I assume, as I’ve never been in a Wurm map that was even close to success)

They don’t really reward better(other than karma). The chance for good drops is the same as every other world boss/boss in the game little to none unless you have extremely good luck.

I have to disagree. For the time investment, the rewards are much better. Karma is pretty important when you have loads of ascended mats to refine, or going for a legendary, etc. Also, last I checked other world bosses don’t drop ascended chests.

Edit: OK, they do drop exotic loot bags which have a chance at ascended chests. I do recall reading somewhere on the wiki that Teq has a higher chance for this (or perhaps it was something else?) than exotic bags, which would make sense to me, as his reward is once a day.

Anyway, I guess it’s just my opinion, but I would not compare the other world bosses to Teq and Wurm in any way, even loot. They’re in separate tiers.
