There is "probably" no expansion, its a myth

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Andred.1087

Why does anyone still think an expansion would be good for this game? They can release any content through the Living Story, which they’ve been doing for a while now. If they made an expansion, people would expect more expansions, and all it really boils down to is how long you wait for the content vs. how much is released at a time.

Andred.1087

Definetly nope. This is a game rated 12+. And also China and other countries got a huge problem with same sex marriages and romances. So this would inevitably lead to conflicts within these countries, especially on the asian market. And if Anet implements this without gay or bi marriages and romances it would kitten off a large group of the more liberal playerbase.

Well, I think it would be fairly easy to implement it both ways; one is a strict subset of the other.

That said, this is a terrible idea, and GW2 is very much not the game for that.

I got GW1 in ’08, playing GW2 since beta, etc. I stopped GW2 for a while because nobody was playing with me, and I was bored. I got back into it early this year, still playing regularly.

I don’t know why people make such a big deal over “quitting” a game you can come back to at any time. Just stop playing until you want to play again, problem solved.

Also, just because you’re bored doesn’t mean Anet isn’t making loads of money off of the game as we speak. People can point and shout about problems with the game and the studio all day long, but if they’re still making good money on it, they don’t really need to change anything about their process. They should, but they don’t need to.

I’d like to see significantly more content, too. But so what if Anet is going slower than we like? I barely have time in my day to fit in GW2 with other things I want to do; if I get bored of playing it, that just means I have more time to do other stuff.

GW2 is just one of an unfathomable number of entertaining things you can do without moving from where you are right now. We players may think the fate of the game is important to us, and it is if you’ve invested more in it than you’re willing to let go of, but really, the only people who need to care about it are ANet and NCSoft; if (when) the game does die, we’ll still have plenty to replace it with.

So basically what you are saying is, that someone who has never played a non-linear rpg-based videogame finds a non-linear rpg-based game confusing/overwhelming. How does one even respond to that? What’s A.Nets job here? Explaining new people the genre?

Well, obviously they’re obligated to explain it in some degree: Imagine if there were no explanation for anything, and players had to figure it all out. How many would stay with the game? Add some tutorial and people will learn much faster, and be inclined to keep playing.

The more they explain in-game, the more people they can get understand it faster, which ultimately means more players and therefore money. There’s a balance they have to find, though, as there are some lengths to which it is not to their advantage to go in explaining the core ideas of the game and genre.

I’ve come to not be particularly attached to finishing Fractal runs. Most of the time I do, but if my party is so incapable that it’s obviously going to be a very long and frustrating experience, I’ll usually leave. Yeah, that time was completely wasted, and on weekdays I don’t usually have time to do more than 1 per day, but as Chase said, Fractal rewards are pretty bad as it is, so it’s not likely you were even going to get anything good.

Still, sucks that you were kicked. I would definitely be upset if that happened to me, and I am now starting to be more wary of Fractal parties that have multiple players in the same guild.

Gw2 Expansion [Disscussion]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Andred.1087

Andred.1087

I used to be a staunch advocate of paid expansions, but at this point I don’t believe they will ever go that route. I think that’s fine, as long as they actually deliver on the “expansion-sized content” they were talking about back when.

I liked the expansions in GW1, but I think traditional expansions are no longer an option for GW2, and trying to do one would fracture the player base and cast even more doubt on Anet’s management. The Living Story has been a less-than-stellar tool for bringing new content into the game, but if they continue to iterate and improve on the idea, they could feasibly do something great with it, and they wouldn’t have to double back on their ideals if they did.

"Maybe GW2 is not the game for you"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If this phrase legitimately offends you, then maybe GW2 is not the game for you.

Heh, sorry I couldn’t resist. But what I mean to say is, don’t take it so seriously… all it means is maybe you would enjoy another game more, and you should play a game because you really want to, not because you feel like you have to, for whatever reason.

At least, that’s what I mean when I say it. I’m not trying to be a kitten or prove anything, just giving an honest suggestion. Then people get upset, as if GW2 is their life’s devotion and suggesting you might rather do something else with your time is heresy.

Also, you probably overestimate how often people are trying to offend you; it’s a consequence of the impersonal nature of online interaction.

Nobody will do better than WoW until the end of WoW. It’s useless to rate GW2’s success by relationship to WoW, as Blizzard and Anet are simply incomparable, and you can’t expect Anet to keep the same pace.

There is a healthy number of players on GW2 every day, and they are making a lot of money still, so currently it is quite successful.

[Community Discussion] Sub Classes P1

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Andred.1087

Andred.1087

1. I would have liked to see the game come out with subclasses, but I don’t think it’s really feasible to do it this far in. As for what I would have liked to see, something like..

2. Guardian could have subclasses like Cleric, Paladin, Inquisitor, each focusing on mastering a particular aspect of the Guardian’s playstyle, and each featuring unique skills inaccessible to the others.

That would be pretty dope if they did it right, but again, I’m kind of skeptical of trying to introduce something like that so far into the game’s lifetime. It would have to be a lot more simple than it otherwise could have been if the game were released that way, or else there will be too much confusion.

3. I think 3 is quite many to come up with for each of the 8 professions, so maybe only 2 subclasses for each

4. It wouldn’t make sense to not specialize if given the option, so I don’t think there should be a no-subclass option, rather, there could be 2 new subclasses for each profession, and the existing professions become the 3rd subclasses of their respective groupings.

If they were a clear majority, what’s the reason that Anet hasn’t made that or anything like it?

Yes, ArenaNet always acts in accordance with the majority. Haven’t you seen the New Player Experience? It’s met with nothing but universal acclaim!

Not sure if you realize, but majority doesn’t mean everyone.

Also, forum population is an extreme minority and not representative of general player opinion.

Also, most of the strongly negative reaction to the NPE was from people who admitted to not trying it for themselves, and a surprising number of players who have since given it a chance have posted much more positive feedback.

On the topic of GW1 elite areas, it is very unlikely that anywhere close to a majority of players even attempted them. I don’t have the numbers, but the statistics are out for many other games and their comparable instanced content, and the trend is that, universally, it is a relative few players that ever go near them.

Eh just do Fractals for a bit and you can get the right one, along with filling up your bank with rings you don’t need and can’t do anything with but sell for 4.95s…

To be fair, I reasoned pretty quickly that the “Unique” identifier meant you could only equip one of it, though I do agree it should be a lot more clear that this is the case before you buy another one and try to equip it.

All the talk they had about making things less confusing for players more new to the genre, and this could easily trip up MMO veterans. I do believe this problem is due for review at some point, although it’s admittedly a pretty minor problem for Anet.

I’m sure I can’t be the first person (pun not intended until I noticed it) to suggest it, but I think that would be a good middle ground. It could disallow use while in combat, disengage the first person view if you take a step or use a skill, and it wouldn’t be confusing to new players because you would have to actually go get it from someone.

Is it tin foil hat time, or does this make sense to anyone else? It feels stupidly obvious to me.

What makes sense is they said quite clearly they are not currently working on more dungeons, as the large majority of players will never do them. They also said they are working on expansion-sized content, and that only a small portion of the dev team is working on Living Story.

You don’t have to believe anything the devs say, but do they really have a reason to weave some elaborate lie and deceive all of us into continuing to play a no-subscription game against our wills?

I’d like to see more instanced 5-man content as much as the next guy, but there’s no sense getting worked up about it, or what other people are saying about it either.

Heh, I think I saw this idea posted a couple days ago, or something similar anyway.

In any case, I would very much support some manner of getting more than petty change for unneeded ascended gear, and I should hope the developers are / have been considering this for a while. I don’t think I’ve yet seen anyone opposed to the idea.

I would rather not have the raw materials (bloodstone dust) used for it though, since I (and I’m sure many others) have been refining all of those as they come in. Still, I think a solution to unwanted ascended gear really should be looked at, even if it’s just salvaging.

I really don’t want to stop playing gw2

You don’t have to stop playing forever.

I know some will come here and tell me to take a break and I do play gw2 less and less these days, but … i’m the type of person that once i lose interest in a game and stop playing it completely, i usually never go back to it. It’s just the way I am and as i said, I really don’t want that to happen with gw2.

You act as though you have no control over this. You are aware that you’re the only thing stopping yourself?

I believe that your veteran players like myself, have been extremely patient and … I do think it’s about time we hear some news from you guys regarding the future development of gw2 if you would like us to stick by you.

“Stick by them” how? As a game without a subscription plan, there is no reason you should feel obligated to be playing or not at any given time. Come and go as you please, that’s the point.

If you’re tired of GW2, play a different game, until there’s an update and you want to play again. Or maybe you haven’t exhausted everything there is to do in the game, and you could expand the scope of your interests to match the other content. Whatever it is, you’re just artificially limiting yourself.

Guild Wars 2 patches are good.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Andred.1087

I have to admit I’m getting used to new features from last patch. Still I feel it was just a copy-paste from Chinese client with the only reason of unifying game versions in case of future patches.

I think that’s a pretty good reason, to be honest. I sure wouldn’t want to be maintaining two considerably different clients when resources are already stretched thin.

I was initially quite skeptical of the changes in the patch, but as they revealed more and more, specifically getting into week 3, I became inexplicably excited about the update. I have yet to try out the new leveling experience, as I’m still gearing up my main toon, and I hated leveling my alts before the patch anyway, but the other changes have been refreshing at the least.

New things to do thanks to collections (although it may be a while before I seriously invest time in any of them), new trading post UI, which pretty desperately needed a makeover, minis and more now in the wardrobe, and I even like the new commander tag colors. I didn’t have a tag before, but like many others, I decided to take advantage of the 100g price tag before it went up, and I’ve been very happy to have several opportunities to use it to help organize things like Teq or the karka train.

Pretty good update IMO, and I’m super stoked for Halloween this year, and the return of the Living Story right after. Good job, Anet!

Are there really this many people on here incapable of seeing past their own noses?

Logical fallacy. The majority of people do not voice their opinions. You can not listen to a voice that doesn’t exist. Therefore, you have to listen to those people who express their opinions. These people can be found on the official forums/reddit/popular fansites.

I’m getting tired of the old argument “the forum represents a minority, therefore their opinions are irrelevant”. The forum represents the majority of people who voice their opinions and is therefore not irrelevant.

I love it when the first thing out of someone’s mouth is “logical fallacy.” Shows that you know immensely more than I do about dismissing reality with superficial labels.

The tiny percentage of people who are on here QQing nonstop about the NPE are in no way representative of the average player’s opinion. So why should they be listened to? Anet has the metrics. They know far more about the game and the players than anyone complaining about the changes does.

Sorry to say (actually, I’m not at all), this is simply a matter of the ignorant trying to inform the knowledgeable about something they are unable (or perhaps just unwilling) to comprehend.

I was unsatisfied for a while, even reading the announcements for the feature patch, up until week 3, which I expected to be a disappointment, but as I read the announcements that week, it became very apparent to me that Anet does care, and they care a lot.

All this clamoring on the forums is mostly just self-centered, short-sighted players spouting off nonsense because they want all their desires fulfilled right now or they threaten to quit, as if that means anything when there are hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people logging in every day.

Granted, some of the people posting on here legitimately care about the future of the game and don’t want to see it fail. What they don’t understand is that the game is so far from failing it is laughable to even imply.

Yeah, GW2 isn’t perfect. But if you want to enjoy it, you will, and if you want to hate it, you’ll find no difficulty in doing so. Anet has seen all the cries about them being out of touch, and they’re trying very hard to reconcile that and prove to us that they’re still quite interested in bringing us the best experience possible. If you don’t believe that, you should examine your attitude, or preferably just go find a different game to complain about.

Wait, never mind, I’m an adult, and I have no reason to do that.

You people will never listen. I don’t know why Vayne keeps coming into these threads trying to tell you why you’re (clearly) wrong and upset about nothing, but I have to commend him for not getting absolutely furious.

Hey guys, apparently everything is fine because Andred’s opinion is now somehow an objective fact. Your criticisms have all been rendered invalid due to the overwhelming evidence he has posted in defense of of his clearly unbiased argument.

Hey everyone, never mind what I said; NewTrain’s expert rebuttal completely disqualified all the claims I made. And why ever was I to think that people were over-reacting and being selfishly upset about literally nothing? How stupid of me.

Inb4 people do vote with their wallets and when things don’t work out the company blames the fans for not blindly supporting the changes. Looks at Capcom

Inb4 people do vote with their wallets and nothing happens because the forums are a minuscule portion of the player-base.

Also, I expressed my opinion that a certain member here might actually be an employee in disguise. I promptly received an infraction, my post was deleted and so were any posts agreeing with, and quoting it.

You do realize they would never admit, don’t you?

You do realize they would gain absolutely nothing from engaging in such a practice, right?

I wish everyone upset about the patch would uninstall the game right now and never come back to the forums, except in a few months to discover just how fine Anet is doing without them. Good luck wherever you go.
