Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.
1. Each class is unique
2. Combat is fluid and responsive
3. ANet doesn’t crank up the numbers
4. PVP maps are varied
5. ANet listens to the 95% rather than the 5%
1.So and so.
2.Ok, but needs some tweaks – manly related to skill bugs tho.
3.Or they do but not tell ya. Never trust the tooltips.
4.They’re all Conquest failmode. So no.
5.Anet listen the QQ, is different.
Bring enough DPS and every encounter becomes a joke.
Welcome to: why GW2 PvE atm is downright pathetic – and why some classes are nonexistant in “organized” group and kicked from pugging.
Non-temporary addition?
You’re mad guys.
/sarcasm
The problem is that although having the stunbreak on GoEP doesn’t make any sense, when you REALLY WANT to add a stunbreak to a glyph, it still makes the most sense.
Heals should never stunbreak so that glyph is out. The Rez Glyph has way too long of a cooldown and is generally unusable. Both elemental glyphs don’t make any sense to have a stunbreak. And Glyph of Storms is a targeted aoe which makes it unusable as a split-decision stunbreak gylph.
I really dig the idea of GoEP giving an aura depending on your attunement.
I’d prefer to have a buff to current GoEP, move stunbreak to Storm AND redo it to make it fit.
(all of this cause personally i’m testing and digging GoEP so if gets changed migth be a little disappointed. :p )
Probably hopped in the Bazar merchants club, they work in a Living Story part of GW2, that’s the only place where Anet care of them.
The only solution to get rid of these mega blobs would be deleting the commander tags.
Maybe for a week or two.
Is already possible to use the “party up and target leader” trick for zerg without commander tag. Especially if on a Voip – and a lot of servers have a public TS or similar platform. And even taking in account a super casual player w/o Voip neither target on leader, blobs are so large that some of them just follows the movement of the mass of players there wouldn’t be a noticeable difference.
Not really a solution overall, imo – as long as blobbing is so much profitable and easy to do, you can drop any restriction, players will find a way.
What is needed imo, on this particular topic, is making splitting up profitable. One thing over all, larger maps and more objectives, encouraging fighting on multiple fronts but in smaller (20ish) scale. And restrict much more the WP mass porting. And flash bulding of siege.
It wouldn’t make blobbing impossible, ofc. And a small scale zerg would stll be crushed encoutering a blob (20 vs 80).
But while a group get wiped and keep busy the blob, you’ll have other 3 groups of 20 players each hitting and conquering other 3 places – and in a bigger and WP-less map blob will not be able to counter them all at once, even if winning when picking up fight with them.
In other words, splitting get encouraged. Blobbers might still do it, but they will lose over time due to not be able to defend multiple objectives at once due to larger maps. And after some time, “blobbing = losing” will make ppl turn away from it.
Oh, also. I recall Anet saying that maps can’t be bigger due to technical problems.
Assuming that raw size can’t be upgraded by a millimeter, 2 hints:
-BLs have a TON of wasted space filled with meaningless mobs. Centaurs, skritts, spiders and the terrible waste of space of the huge lake. Get rid of all of this and – tadaaaa – you have room for at very least 3 more objectives.
-Increase map number (like placing other 3 BLs) and reduce map cap. Overall number of ppl in WvW per server MUST stay the same. Just force them to split by increasing the number of maps and allowing less ppl per map in.
(edited by AndrewSX.3794)
The fundamental problem is Anet is unclear whether WvW is a hardcore or casual gamemode.
They are clear on sPvP: that’s hardcore, and they cater to the hardcore PvP crowd (somewhat successfully).
With WvW, on the otherhand, they seem to completely ignore the dedicated WvW guilds that make the game. These are the ones who set the pace of competition, the meta, and everything else. Yet, Anet appears to believe WvW is a casual offshoot of PvE.
If Anet catered more to the dedicated WvW guilds (not sure how), then perhaps there would be incentives for them to stay on low tier servers. As it is now, the dedicated WvW guilds have to “make their own fun” by transferring to the high tiers, or organizing GvGs.
The transferring itself is a vicious circle because it causes mega-blogging in the high tiers, furthering reducing competition. It’s a big cluster-kitten.
Some good points, and those guilds will eventually leave the game for other games and WvW will be left in a poor state once that happens.
So far 80% or more of guilds/guys who left hardcore/dedicated WvW did it because of that – Anet stance and treatment.
The 9th class, WvW only: Vizuna.
I like GoeP, but it has few issues.
First, is not suited at all as defensive/stunbreaker skill. It’s something you want to precast and keep using on CD troughout a fight.
Second, the skill itself could use some tuning – i like the idea of it and how is right now, but feels a bit cluncky atm.
Overall, i’d prefer to see stunbreak taken away from this to another glyph, and this skill being improved a bit (i prefer the current buff rather than the “Infinite duration but one shot” figured above. but current buff doesn’t work well with stunbreak – so either move it or change the buff to keep it, even if i’d dislike to lose it).
Engineer or Ranger ?
If i’d have to choose, i’d say Engi.
More utility (can easily pack alone various combo fields and 3+ blast finisher), best long aoe ranged weaponset (grenadier – decent dmg/pressure/CC all at 1500 range), and overall better versatility.
Ranger is probably a bit more desiderable in a small scale/roaming setting, but Engi isn’t bad there either.
Nobody is forced to use bullkitten gear like celestial is.
/thread
Celestial gear is bad in 99% of situations and builds, i’m glad they made this idiotic time-gated-account bound crafting thing on celestial rather than a useful stat set.
This is going to be VERY interesting. It might even show Anet all the issues because – Because it will bomb, then Anet knows they will have ALOT of work to get T(and S)PvP sorted
Fixed for ya.
Necromancers need the offensive combination of Terror and Burning to be nerfed in some way without killing condi builds (which a Terror nerf would do).
Totally agree. What they should do imo is removing the burning trait and nerf somehow the aoe condi spam. My fear is they are going to overnerf necro condi spec, making it pretty much up. It’s not like something like this did not happen in the past.
Agree.
Necro finally got what he needed to be viable. They must NOT trow them in the shadows again.
Fine tuning the combos that latest patch made possible is needed tho.
Add mainhand pistol, make it a power weapon then go all out condition with the sceptre.
This.
But we’re mesmer, so no buff for us.
What an absolutely well-made argument, truly. The evidence provided here was just extraordinary. The thesis, legendary. Truly, a masterpiece that represents the epitome of modern debate.
Your language was clear and concise. You used a variety of extremely powerful literary devices to influence the readers’ thoughts on the topic at hand (going from a singular noun to a verb describing a plurality? Brilliant!). The argument was short yet to the point.
You, sir, will have monuments built in your honor. Your story shall be told to generations of children, aspiring just to be like you, for centuries. You will become a god among mortal men, and shall be known as one of the, if not the greatest human being to have ever lived.
10/10 would read again
I am a T1 player in a serious WvW guild and I find it sad that we really want to move down a couple tiers simply so we can find good fights.
People blobs almost in every Tier as long as they have the manpower for it.
And btw, the issue in dealing with huge zerg as small group is that all the tactical advantage vanish as soon as lags kicks in.
And if the blob is large enough, it WILL kick in even if you’re 15 players.
If only there was a way to counter huge zergs…
If you;re being serious the changes to ACs actually encouraged bigger blobbing.
^
/15chars
Issue is that if nothing changes what will happen is that ppl on EU will go towards US/Vizuna meta (some laready started to), because afterall that’s what the system suggest atm for maximum effectiveness.
While instead pushing in the opposite direction is what Anet should do/incentive.
Thanks for good fights yday at Riverside border.
Fighting for at least 15 mins on the Supp Camp right in front of ER spawn with their whole map zerg porting to Wp, running in and getting wiped over and over yelded so much loot.
:P
What’s brilliant about confusion and retaliation is it MAKES PLAYERS THINK before just spamming attacks.
And that’s why ppl whine and Anet nerfs.
Why start using a brain when you can ask for them to be removed from game?
We have lots of retaliation and lots of our traits involve Retaliation. What should we ask Arenanet for in compensation for this incoming nerf?
Considered that Mesmers got Confusion butchered w/o any compensative buffs (actually they added some traits nerfs on top of confusion one) and that it was the only source of dmg for a zerging Mesmer – while Guardian dmg on Retal is “collateral”, not the only one (GS/Hammer hits hard w/o any Retal involved) – i wouldn’t get high hopes.
It’s not even funny anymore. Not. Funny.
Desolation is so cursed…
RNG is just a kitten.

1. change map population cap to force players away from top servers
No.
For a simple reason: while it might be on paper a good way to deal with stacked servers, it would just crush communityes like a card castles.
It’s already incredibly difficult to get some social structure in this game built for casuals, and to grow some attachement to a community, a server, and it’s people.
And you want to crush that?
Just no.
It would be worse than the problem.
(and, god, NO free transfers. that’s even worse.)
Long short story (and only about this topic, WvW PvE Spvp all same issue): the base isn’t bad, the potential is great, the devs are doing all wrong.
/sadtruth
I never played GW1, but this sounds freaking amazing.
If they just took GW1 PvP and ported it to GW2
This 2 posts sums it up.
Anet to have a true esport, or even at least a real competive/alive PvP scene should have done 2 things:
-pick up GW1 pvp, adapt the mechanics to new combat polish few issues and such;
-slap it in GW2 with the new graphics and flavour or adding few new modes.
Done. And would have took half of the time they spent to made spvp.
How could they waste 5-7 years and, with the Gw1 PvP base, come up with this…THING…. is beyond my understanding.
hmm think i saw quartz crystals drop from lootbags.
This.
Almost every single loot bag (i mean the one you get in inventory) regardless of weight (heavy large small) has 1 to 5 quartz crystals.
Actually, i think that as long as you have a decent kill/time ratio, WvW is better than PvE for getting those (they’re useless anyway, but doesn’t matter).
The issue is that there are 2 approachs to a problem like “Arcana (and Water) feels too mandatory to be on par”:
-making alternatives valuable. Fresh Air and Earth line improvements are a step in right direction, but needs to be even better and, most of all, extended to fire line.
-making Arcana and Water so obsolete to make Fire and other 2 lines look cool.
Guess which has always been the Anet choice so far when they came to this kind of issues on other professions.
Well you DO proc confusion when you spam backstab to break through limited charge defense :p
Confusion that has been halved in dmg to the point of being completely meaningless in terms of punishment.
Just saying.
Well, i don’t think that has much sense keep arguing about the vid then – it’s the message the thing to talk about.
4.3 What are you complaining about then?? ADAPT!
I think the point is another.
That players who adapted are the ones zoneblobbing nigthcapping and hugging keeps and running away from fights – unless outnumbering 3:1 – not involving AC’s.
The problem is that all of this that has been promoted by Anet patches over and over is not fun, has no room for skill or guilds, it’s boring as hell and overall, make you want to kick a quaggan so hard to leave the game – look how many PvP/WvW guilds already disbanded over this 10 months.
@OP:
I don’t have enough thumbs to up this.
+9001
Great. Another stealth thread.
Random QQ =/= Rational discussion. And this thread is by far the second (at least the OP).
I’m the first one to think that ppl whine too much on Thieves because they do what they’re designed to – like, gank run scout and rule the 1vs1 scene – with useless arguments and w/o any knowledge of class.
But really, i doubt that serious thief players think that being able to spam a 5-7k + burst from stealth (no tell) even if the target is good and time properly a dodge/block/blind and keep spamming w/o punishment till the BS lands (potentially killing the target even if, as said, he predicted and countered the burst with evade/block/blind) is ok.
And on the more larger stealth issue: just dropping this here, from the time when LoL devs had to deal with stealth.
http://na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?p=26754549
Ofc look over the different game (which has a astronomically better PvP, which is what we’re talking about) and take a look at arguments about stealth.
Like
Long-term stealth is a contentious mechanic. It’s really fun for the person using it to gank, but it absolutely blows for the player on the receiving end. Long-term stealth encourages hugging your tower all day long, with stealth detection such as Oracles or Vision Wards being the only viable counter-play option (we don’t even have a counterpaly option, except traps which i don’t think have a place in any real “Stealth issue” argument.), which is a binary and boring mechanic. Not fun.
It’s also proven near-impossible to balance these mechanics. Long-term stealth isn’t effective against high level players, because they know how to counter it, so it’s never something we’d see in pro-level play.
or
Eve’s passive is now Shadow Walk. From Level 1, Evelynn is stealthed, meaning she can only be seen by enemy champions within a relatively short range of her…That means Evelynn is still hard to pinpoint in terms of map position, and she retains the feel of roaming around and scouting out areas for her team.
However, opponents now have a small window of opportunity to react, since she becomes visible before she’s directly on top of them.
Think and discuss =/= NERFPLOXTHIEFOPQQ.
But you can’t just use 2 supplies on your repair to keep the rest to build a siege or whatever else you might want to keep them for. It’s still a pain even though it’s supposed to help.
Sure, but tbh in 10 months or so of WvW i rarely (never?) had to built 2 supply only in something on purpose.
It’s a shame that you have such a limited, noncompetitive view of open world fighting. I don’t know if no one at Anet played DAoC, or if you were all just god awful at it, but you are missing out on so much potential because you are so focused on driving wvw into a mindless zerging siege fest.
If instead of intentionally pushing the skilled players out of wvw you had encouraged small group play, GW2 would have the best roaming pvp scene since DAoC, but instead it’s a joke.
But hey, on the upside, maybe if you continue to ruin wvw more and more with every patch, hopefully eventually you will be forced to actually put some resources into spvp.
+1
About the build/repair mastery, afterall it’s ok to pick one the first (1 pt) tier for both and go no further.
This way you still retain the ability to put supplies in different things (4 on first place, 4 on second, 2 spare ones) while DOUBLING the build/repair speed.
Btw, to clear up if somebody missed it, if you have only 2 supplies or the build/repair needs only 2 supplies to fill out you won’t waste 4 (or more depending on rank) of them – the “Uses 4 supplies at once” is a bit misleading.
Until reset it’s all rumors!
No because in his preview Dulfy expressively said that they works like HoM skins.
Unlock once by reaching the X number of AP, choose the skin, get it unlimited times.
Nice writeup, +1.
About Mesmer all i have to say: they have no variations in builds cause Anet in the “build diversity promotion” patch (anc cause keeps nerfing them following the QQ trains) pigeonholed them in that one.
I think the wvw community can do alot more to make new players feel welcome and important.
A big plus-ONE to this. ….ALL of the WvW players in this thread,
who keep Writing off PvE’ers, NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THIS
There’s a flaw in this tho.
Not in the training ppl ofc (we did it on SFR when needed), but the problem is that you’re talking about a “wvw community” – which is server dependant.
Nobody in the “WvW community” here can say “We’ll do it” cause it’s your server WvW community you need to talk with.
If we were PvE’rs crying, this would be fixed within the month.
Not in matter of balance.
If that would be the case, you should see like 9 months of updates reverted in PvE and 10 times more skill/trait splits.
I use Caithe’s hairstyle. Just because I enjoyed the way it dyed and glowed.
Same.
Manly how it dyes – there are some leaf hairstyles that dyes HORRIBLY and have blurry/bad textures.
Gimmie the first one and i’ll get one Hair Style Kit ASAP.
Aside the discussion about the Chaos Armor effects, now Staff 4th skill needs something.
It has NOTHING more that a combo’ed chaos armor. Which wouldn’t be a problem per se – except it’s on a huge 35 sec CD for a feasible 5 sec duration, with no additional bonuses/mechanics apart being istant.
At very very very least a CD reduction is in order.
ANet considered the WvW abilities as new content and they probably feel it’s enough to keep players occupied for another month instead of providing real substantive content for players to enjoy.
+1
This way when WvWers points out that there is nothing concrete coming out since months, they say “New perk every patch”.
Sorry, my point is that it is very unlikely to get me into WvW. I PvE because I like PvE and cooperative games. I do not like PvP.
Lore and story aren’t really the same. I prefer story to lore. Basically, story keeps me guessing what happens next. Lore is looking back at what happened before. For this reason, I like the Living Story aspect of this game.
Yeah, ok, no problem…
Is just that in a thread “What should this massive pvp mode have to appeal you” an answer “No pvp no zergs and a story instead” leaves baffled for a moment. :p
Just saying, go to mists and you can already preview the whole set.
And it’s all there.
I’d be interested in WvW if:
-it wasn’t as repetitive
It’s long term PvP Endgame – also Pvp is inherently repetitive cause is the variety of opponents and their reactions to keep game alive
-there was a story
If you mean lore, there is. Uninteresting, but there is.
-there wasn’t any pvp
Wut.
-it wasn’t a zerg fest
It’s a well know issue, but as long as Anet doesn’t do anything this falls in the “deal with it” category, sadly.
Nobody will bite your head off in a server’s teamspeak, everyone treats everyone equally unless you’ve made a bad rep for yourself.
I only really started playing WvW properly like five days ago and I was able to intergrate in to my server’s community quickly and effortlessly.
+1 to this things, as limiting factor for way too many PvE (but not only) players.
Playing wvw is like teaming up with the rest of the server. You have to join that shady community that is the WvW crowd of your server. You have to listen, do boring stuff if it’s needed to succeed. You have to ask if you need, wvwers are always keen to share with you tips/tricks and most importantly builds/gear/tactics. You join a WvW server TS and maybe website. You get know with your commanders. Then WvW becomes more than mere sieging and bashing and points and farming, it becomes playing with your server and with other ppl, it becomes fun.
If you can’t get into this mindset and in this “second server community” thing, there’s a huge wall.
(ps: i’m speaking from my experience of introducing first myself and then other ppl at wvw on my server – which as for colesy, is SFR actually).
The issue of JP happen way before playing in it.
Problem is that you can’t q for the JP: you have to get trough EB.
In prime time.
The most played border.
Where even smallest servers have ques, let alone guilds playing on big ones.
And you still have to hold your keep to get in.
And if you need to respanw you need to go in EB again.
So, the problem is that it’s just not possible to arrage getting 40 + ppl in EB JP in prime time for a GvG.
Also, don’t forget complaining about other’s complaining is still complaining.
Complainingception
Because there is no stat that reduces condition damage, with a power build you can have toughness/armor and protection, but with conditions you have nothing and they can be spammed having 10 stacks of any condition in an AoE its too much, so pretty much the class is OP for the lack of any stat that mitigates condition damage, dont try the vit argument because its not.
This is a good point.
Vitality is, on paper the counter to condition builds – which, still on paper, is something that would make sense afterall.
Reality is that even with a huge Vit stacking things don’t change much – if you’re lucky it just delay the inevitable.
And it bring up a good question – could be the right way to rebalance the conditions try to mess up with health pools, Vit bonuses numbers or maybe adding some extra mechanics to it?
In order to make the “Vitality is Condition hard counter” true.
And you know they aren’t working on that stuff because….?
Because while we’re at 6th or so consecutive Living Story stuff, all the listed points do not have a tangible update.
I’m sure they’re working on multiple things, but:
-LFG is here? No.
-Scavenger Hunt? Rumored at best.
-Permanent DG changes? After AC, nothing – aside bug (manly exploit/glitches/shortcuts) fixes and annoying stealt changes.
-Spvp: still. single. fail. conquest. monomode.
-WvW: got the rank system in place, ok. But community big requests since betas are still under “we know and we work”
I know they’ve talked about plans and teams and things that are coming and such: but ppl is tired, they want facts.
And fact is, nothing is getting as much attention as all this Living Story thing – that doens’t add much to the real game.
