Though I am not too fond of WvW, your comment is elitist and unneeded.

Agree somewhat with OP.

Ele is perfect? No, and nobody said that.
Needs improvement to build diversity (i’d like so much to get those 60 trait points out of Arcana/water and do not feel useless), skill balance and a viable DPS spec? Yes.

But kitten it, this profession community cry SO much.

WvW: Staff Ele is mandatory (i’ll stress it again. you NEED it and you can’t replace it.) for decent groups.
Spvp: afaik D/D bunker is still there (and some bursty/cond builds are viable after patch. OP? Strongest build? no. but viable) and still rolled perfectly fine.
PvE: you know, not everybody plays (for choice or w/e) a full kitten serker speed team. And in a “normal” DG team Ele holds his ground just fine. Not in terms of DPS, granted, but reality check: it’s the PvE that is broken cause exploitable by raw DPS. (and even then, there are viable speed team builds for ele revolving on LH).

Overall, i too really don’t get the “Profession is doomed” cry.
Ok, RTL is crappy now.
DPS is not the strong point.
And most of all, trait distribution is nearly locked.

But come on, some guys are getting ridicolous.
Well, keep crying, my Ele keeps rolling.

Almost a year later, there are traits and runes still bugged. Pathetic.

The tPvP meta game is broken.

A lot of legendaries still lack good animations. No excuses.

Still no player housing nor GvG.

ArenaNet cannot figure out the difference between build diversity and playstyle diversity, I need to school them in video game combat design 101.

Celestial gear takes a full 40 days to make 2 weapons and 6 armors. A timegate, way to step backwards, just limit dungeon tokens and crafting completely if that is the mindset.

I cannot care for this new area, weapons or armors.

Don’t get me wrong, the update is good overall.

But all this Living Story stuff isn’t adressing core issues in any shape or form.

Seriously, though, I’m willing to bet that 3/4 of those items, at a minimum, will end up back on the TP during the “sell, sell, sell” phase of every patch bubble.

Usual stuff. New application for something, ppl go berserk, buy it all, try some, realize the rewards, sell back up.

Also, supply for those things is so insane that i’d expect prices to drop back to normal very soon.

Remember the ecto jumping due to “we can get T6 dust from it!”?
Now has the same price pre-patch. But got a decent use and sink.

Long story short, glamour isn’t the way to go.

Issue is, for zerging there isn’t much outside that.

Huh, I have the exact opposite opinion. For example, I run a 0/20/30/20/0 interrupt build for zerging, works really well for me.

My point is that if you’re in a zerg, you should NEVER drop Feedback and Veil (swap to Portal for golem rushes). This means that 2 utilities out of 3 are locked, and in glamour.

(and if you’re not carring at very least Veil, you’re zerging wrong.)

Just take a look at what happens in PvE meta-wise.

Every change that get introduced in the patches has ever been made strictly for a nerf/buff in PvE? No.

Every change in PvE meta has always been driven by a “Well this skill/trait was too powerful in PvP and got nerfed, let’s find out something else”.

Blurred Frenzy and IC and Shattered Strenght and IntotheVoid
Pet Dmg
Berserker Power + HF
Grenade Kit

and so on.

And how many of those extremely important traits/skills has been splitted?
Take a guess.

Don’t like it at all.

I use the GS only if i need quick bursty power dmg at max range – wvw and few DG encounters for example.

Otherwise, the steady dmg and protection/utility/comboing of the Staff are much better imo.

(welp, aside the big hit of latest patch to Chaos Armor.)

How do we get a guaranteed way of getting protection now?

Prismatic Understanding (tied to Stealth skills CD) and the Protection on Regen (15 sec CD) i’d say.

Fresh Air: This trait now has its proper 5-second recharge instead of a 3-second recharge.
Shatterstone: This ability will no longer cancel when autoattack is engaged.

Fresh Air has always been said having a 5 sec CD. Bugfix.
Shatterstone: bugfix for a skill not firing.

Don’t complain when there’s nothing to QQ about, it just makes legit complains ingnored.

Confusion was fine.

Only thing should have nurfed could have been the way to apply it – which were able to bypass the 5 target aoe limit.

But cause it would have required some brain cells to nerf it that way (the proper way), Anet just halved the dmg, essentially killing the dmg output of the class in zergs, which is plain dumb, because it was the only thing for outmanned side to break huge zergs, and to test players awareness.

Now the dmg it’s so pitiful that ppl just autoattack trough it, making the whole concept useless to say the least.

I want to play a high DPS guardian. I don’t want to be super super squishy or anything but I would like a high focus on damage.

Zerk or Knight or a mix of the 2.
Especially if you have a guild/organized team as backup and all of you are playing DPS and using speedrunning tactics, go for Zerk gear – if you’re not confident/experienced enough or you’re pugging, Knight might be a wiser choice.

a WvWvW armor set.

In a zerg, for 99% of the situations, Soldier.
There are few other options (knigh, cleric, zerk, mixing up) depending on build and playstyle, but Soldier is the overall most balanced set.

Axe is Garbage Now

…And there’s little reason to not use a GS in PvE, so personally I put my warrior’s axes on the mantle piece to rust in piece.

Agreed on the whole post, but i’d beg to differ on this.

While GS is still a extra viable weapon, if you’re looking for Min/Maxing the Axe has better DPS (ask Dg speedrunners who spend all the day to test and squeeze as much DPS as possbile out of their chars) than GS in Pve.

But I will agree with you that this class has a low skill floor with stealth.

Aside professional QQers and nerfscalling on some things w/o sense, that’s the main concern of most ppl imo.

Thieves are meant to be the 1vs1 king. They are designed to be. Moaning cause they’re strong in that scenario is silly to say the least.

The issue is that as stealth works atm in this game, Thief have a incredibly high effectiveness for a incredibly low effort.
And Stealth is the key point.
It makes their attacks harder, if not impossible, to predict and counter (w/o even mentioning thing like that if your BS miss/get blocked you don’t get kicked out of stealth neither revealed and can keep hitting as long as you’re stealthed till it lands), it makes them able to get in, blow some CD’s to attack, and if target is decent to react/survive just pop stealth and disengage before retry, over and over until target makes the minimum mistake – and due to the high dmg thief can pump out, a single mistake can be enough to down you – while the attacking thief has a very large room for errors, due to this “safety net” that allows a safe/fast/uncounterable disengage thanks to stealth and unmatched mobility.

Mobility, High Burst Dmg and Stealth are the key points of Thieves, and it’s right to be so. But you shouldn’t be able to have all 3 of them at same time, it’s way too much. Thieves/stealth should be changed to make them have to drop 1 of them – if you want to have stealth and dmg you shouldn’t be able to outrun everybody, if you’re extremely mobile and stealthy to harass you should have little dmg, if you have mobility and dmg you should have to drop stealth cause mobility is enough to survive.
And give them more group play option as tradeoff.
Bam, balanced.

I have no idea what the motivation is for the constant changes, but it almost seems like Anet is trying to annoy people and kill the game.

The last (and most harsh) round of changes has been made to push farmers from Orr to SouthSun Cove during the Living Story event.

Which means, yes, killing a permanent content to push players in farming a temporary one.

Regardless of profits – SSC during event was prolly more profitable than “decent” CS – the issue is that SouthSun event ended, farming spots closed, and now is a ghost town again.

Only that to push ppl in that, they ruined CS making it empyt kitten.

Ranger is by far, considered the perfomance in the 3 main modes (PvE Spvp WvW), the worst prof out of there.

Onorable mentions needs to be done tho.
-warriors, while being totally viable in WvW and GodTier in PvE, are garbage in Spvp/Tpvp/roaming.

-mesmers are still good in all the 3 modes, but so far (since release…heck, since BWE1) they’re getting nerfed across all mode over and over, due to pvp qq’s. Last patch has been a real hit. Also, more than nerfs is the nearly complete lack of any meaningful “compensative buff” that hurts. If the trend keep going on, i have some gloomy feeling for mesmer in few months.

-eles is a bit a strange topic. manly, the approach to their balancing is mental – since they started their nerfs the target has always been the D/D tank build. Which is the only build still viable? D/D tank build. Pick one of the 2: either they have no idea what are they doing and keeps touching wrong things, or they haven’t provided any meaningful alternative so far. Manly, balancing with a certain build in mind is wrong. They take away stuff thinking “they can heal/cleanse a lot so it’s ok” forgetting that a ele heal/cleanse a lot cause dumps 60 trait points and most of his dmg for it. Yet, regardless of the (in some topics valid) crying, ele is valid in PvE (as long as you’re not speedrunning – there are builds for it but i’m not expert about it so i’ll pass), decent in PvP and extremely wanted in WvW, so…

-thieves still trade the ability to gank single/bad players for any meaningful utility in group fights. aka: in wvw big clashes they’re useless to say the least.

-engi (even more than ele prolly) are still the class that you have to work the most, and get still underwhelming results. buffed necros took their place as top condition pressure in pvp… which is the best mode for engi perfomance. In PvE they suffer of same issues of ele – “jack of all trades master of none” that means “outclassed by other profs in single tasks” – and they’re not popular in wvw.

Anet did, in few weeks:

-taken away drops from some kind of (numerous) mobs. They simply don’t drop anything.
-increased exponentially respawn time of main “farming-events”

in order to push ppl to Southsun (now a ghost town again).
Add in the changes made in the course of first half of year to put some hold to farming profits, and it’s done.

Atm the only things worthy to do in Orr are gathering (oric/ancient/omnomberry) and temple events due to final chest + daily reward.

Which means more or less that farming in the world atm is restricted to meta event farm – everything else is gone, if you don’t want to farm CoF P1….

This is not a new map, this is a new gamemode. So forget it.

So?

I want to remember you how many different gamemode existed in Guild Wars 1:

- Random Arena
- Codex Arena
- Heroes’ Ascent
- GvG
- Alliance Battles
- Jade Quarry
- Aspenwood Fort

The question is: why, in a game which is supposed to be the Guild Wars 1 sequel, are we playing only one PvP mode?

So? i want to play HA and codex again. But they don’t care. We won’t get any game modes so get used to it or leave. Just like everyone does after 6 months of pvp at least.

As much i’d like to see new stuff in spvp (it’s a total failure atm) i second

This is not a new map, this is a new gamemode. So forget it.

Manly because doing that would mean for Anet admit they’ve completely missed the mark about their spvp and all the esport crap they’ve talked about.

So, yeah, my bet is we’ll have tons and tons of maps but only for conquest in the foreseeable future, and nothing more. If you enjoy it, nice (and you must be a bit weirdo, but w/e). If you don’t make your packages and move along.

Issue with Aetherblades armor (survey across guild/friends): it’s horrible.

Personally i’m not a fan of signets at all, but this one makes sense.

Manly, 5 signets is bad. Heal/Elite and new Dolyak (now istant+breakstun) are still understandable instead.

Given that as long as you’re good, any profession will do….

The absolute rule N° 1 for a commander is: don’t die.
Thus, tanky chars/builds are favored.

Guardian
Warrior

are by far the most numerous (and easy to use for commanding) commander professions. Full-Tank build, charge first in clashes and survive easily.

Close followers:

Elementalists
Necromancers

Ele cantrip/EA/CW build is very durable, totally viable as commander. Same for necro – DS and crazy hp pool makes it easily the last man standing – even if not so popular (at least on my server).

Mesmer

Is another good choice, manly because allows you to manage some of the mesmer’s utilities needed by your zerg by yourself (like, no need to call out a Veil: say “Go” and drop it by yourself). Tanky builds and various escape tools makes it a viable choice, but you’ll need to pay attention.

Engineer
Ranger

Do not offer particular “commander tools”. Tanky builds are viable and decent to play tho, thus it’s possible to use them.

Last…Thief

Is the least valid because there aren’t really tanky builds, cause most of them relies on stealth – which is not going to help you survive for real in a zerg clash.

All of this based on personal preference, experience and server trends.
And again: " as long as you’re good, any profession will do".

Exactly, and ArenaNet have been quite clear with the fact that they are not planning to develop such as service.

They’re said nobody is working on it and it’s not on their schedule at the moment.

A bit different compared to “We will never do it” – even if i think too that we’ll never see it.

+1, i think i said it already but longer it last better is becoming…

(btw, MH Sword on ranger auto is completly nuts, locking your char in animation w/o room for dodgin or anything. i recall posting it on forums and ingame feedback like…during first BWE1. April 2012. yeaaaaah…. – somebody who rerolled after that WE when tried out ranger – )

Just saying, does ppl still complain about blobs in EB?

You know, blobbing is sometimes the right thing to do in the EB tactical play.

Without taking in account that SFR in particular designed EB as “Pugland” with just commanders to lead the masses, so i’d be actually surprised about ppl not blobbing in there – regardless of server.

BLs, it’s another story.

Also: never judge matches from the WE.

Well the majority of warriors no longer have the “sit on your adrenaline” traits so you might as well use it.

For PvE DPS actually i’m seeing more and more ppl leaning towards a 30/0/0/10/30 build, loosing GS trait (and the GS weapon as whole) in order to keep BP and HF. Add in the new Axe trait in discipline… and voilà, A/x + A/M.

Ele or Necro?

In a nutshell:

Necro: AoE raw Dmg, zone Denial/Pressure and some CC. Can pack strong condition dmg (don’t really pay offs due to insane cond removal of zergs and the lack of actual timeframe to apply decent stacks of conds in incs).

Ele: Support, CC/AoE denial and some Dmg. Mostly support/power (but don’t expect to do much dmg, actually it isn’t worth the tradeoff – better stay tanky support/CC).

(both in zerg play. both staff)
