One other thing. WHAT IN THE WORLD is the purpose of the water in this zone? OK, I had to go down there to talk to the Quaggan lady. OK, it’s pretty. But really, that’s it? No events? No hidden mastery commune points? No big roaming champions to beat? No hidden tunnels or ruins? Not even a point of interest?
You can collect Unbound Magic there. For those who prefer to dive rather than jump up some trees.
As for people complaining about the lack of a marker for the PoI at which you brew the Elexir: you should always take the time to explore a map in whole, and the abscence of a marker encourages people to get the 100% map achievement and reward.
Re: Koda’s Warmth Infusion — After I read all the complaints and checked out screenshots and videos, I decided against wasting gold, time and other resources to get it. It’s truly not worth it. What a disappointment.
[…] because the next major release is not until April (SAB).
What does “SAB” stand for?
Sorry, but it’s a freaking MMO, they are complex game, rather among the most complex games. Therefor it is needed to google stuff. And besides: asking in the forum and waiting for an answer takes a lot longer than just goolge it within 1-2 minutes.
Nobody is complaining about the complexity of the game — it’s what makes it fun to play! The complaint was about the lack of ways to grasp the game’s complexity without doing extensive research on your own via third party mechanics (websites, guides etc.). GW1 was less complex, true, and it had tutorials GW2 is sorely missing. How much fun do you think I am having explaining the same basics over and over (and over) again to newbies in my guild or in the big cities? It’s ridiculous how little information is being provided by the game itself even about the most basic elements of the game.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
That’s pretty sad then. I am used to such rudeness from games like Counter-Strike (the community being the main reason I quit last year), we don’t need that crap in GW. Seriously, some frustrated kids in PvP behave just like the CS kids (or many people on the internet in general these days, see Donald Trump).
They had us pay for shared slots but they are eating them up with portal scrolls. They need to replace those portal scrolls with something that pops up a menu of destinations.
This, so much. I am truly hoping for a scroll compendium of sorts, because at this pace it’s getting ridiculous.
On-topic: A more peaceful and quiet map would be nice for a change. Although, for the next big expansion, I am rooting for Cantha and/or Elona/Vabbi to be re-introduced into the game.
Sometimes, there is a random security check for accounts to ensure mobile authentication is working properly. Or maybe your ISP changed your IP? Don’t worry too much, wait for support to get back to you.
Also, make sure you are not dealing with any overheating issues. GW2 is quite demanding on the hardware.
I second the OP’s request. It’s such a shame to waste such a beautiful spot. <3
HoT is indeed a pain in the behind, until you have maxed certain masteries. Then it’s a lot of fun.
I think the devs have learnt from that mistake and are approaching new content differently now. So, hang on there, go through the pain of getting those masteries (as we all did), then never look back.
Is there EVER some action on Dragon’s Stand? All the time I come there the map is deserted. So when is the best time to come there?
That’s because the meta takes place on a different map.
You join a squad about 15 mins before it starts (either on location or via LFG); then the whole squad “dies” and is teleported to the actual event version of the map. And yes, that one’s the biggest action event you’ve seen in GW2 so far.
For the exact times, check this website: http://gw2timer.com/
I have played many MMOs from Everquest on. In almost every single one, I have not gotten to an area and thought “what do I do here?” And those MMOs which people have not been able to figure out what to do in-game I consider badly designed or broken.
I have to admit that this is indeed the case in GW2. It is anything but self-explanatory and difficult to master for newbies. There are no tutorials, no manuals, no explanations, no guides. You have to gather all information by either asking or looking things up on GW2 Wiki or Google. It’s truly one of GW2’s weak spots.

It’s been out for a year now, it’s no longer news, I can’t see why we still need to view the cutscene everytime or why it still has that horrible obnoxious fanfare theme that sounds like it could be a 70’s Superman movie theme.
The current background music for the city is truly obnoxious. Who needs heroic fanfares 24/7 while roaming a city? It’s a shame that many (newer) area have that issue so that one is forced to completely mute all background music in the game.
Keep to your Jeremy Soule style music Anet, it’s great the way it used to be, trying to copy John Williams is an embarassement.
+1
Jeremy Soule = <3
I only have 9 characters, therefore no such issue. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to be able to have all characters presented in a one-page overview (e.g., via portrait grid) to make selection easier for all. This was already an issue for many in GW1.
I am one of the few guild scribes in our guild. We made the ice sculptures, which are nice. However, the amount of snow one can place is indeed meager, the snow parts look fake (except for the piles), and the size of the Wintersday trees is a joke (I hope they will be improved).
Actually, since he sent you the salt, it means that you were the one b*tching about losing (either insulting the opponent’s team for their better tactics, or insulting your own teammatesfor playing lousy).
1. Losing weight to a healthy level is always good. One shouldn’t allow computer games to hinder that effort.
2. You asked why you should have bought HoT and enabled all the elite specilizations. Well, it’s simple: games evolve. There is always new content in MMOs with new professions, new races or new skills (in this case in the form of so-called specializations). One needs to adept. If you want a game to not evolve, then you need to stop playing MMOs.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Black-Lion-Chest-duplicate-bug/first#post6417344
There hasn’t been a fix yet. Each time this happens to you, you need to contact support — they’ll send you replacement keys after asking you to delete the item. Alternatively, opening more chests will fix this too as soon as another duplicate spawns. Yes, I know, it’s weird and annoying.
To avoid this from happening, close the BLC window after each chest opening.

Do you mean that yellow circle around the outside? That’s an “edge of the effect” indicator. Perhaps it was added after you last played.
This. It’s not a bug, there have been several AoE effect updates (like healing spells triggering that water effect etc.).
You need to be persistent. 500g is a lot of money!
Just explain the situation again, include a link to this post.
Don’t close the ticket, get this resolved. The GW2 support is usually awesome, ask for a superior support person to look into this issue.
Sorry, I don’t see what you mean. Maybe you need to highlight the error?
Anything big at the edge of the screen always looks stretched/distorted — ever since a “realistic” camera lense technique found its way into 3D games. (Can you tell I’m not a fan?)
Since it appears that for those of us that have no desire to do raids xp will be useless for us
Actually, it should be even more “useful” to you since you don’t intend to do raids. Why? Because ascended gear crafting requires tons of Spirit Shards, and that’s what XP provide.
Seasonal items are a fairly new thing and do indeed take up 1/3 space. But they are not going to go away. It was cooler, when they were put in a permanent 4th slot of a time (around Halloween), but then this was changed. Boosters have been permanently removed, but to me it seems that useless stuff seems more common a drop these days than before (for instance, I haven’t seen a single home instance node in ages, so their prices have increased).
The graphic quality looks good enough to me. (shrugs) I don’t know what you need changes for. Haven’t seen a game of this genre getting this much out of DX9 as GW2 does, so…
Also, there truly are more important matters that need to be addressed (i.e., fixed) in this game than to worry about HD.

Try Ranger, I have played every profession and while they are all pretty good exploring the maps (Mesmers being noticeably slower) I would say Ranger is the simplest, most effective option! You ll never lack for support as you ll have your faithful eternally-juvenile pet at your side! ranged and melee weapons for any kind of scenarion, and quite a health pool to go along with! their sigils are very useful and the traits are great for exploration. although I do most of my exploring as an Engineer, I insist on suggesting Rangers as the better choice.
I would recommend the same (Ranger) for all things exploration.
If you ever need to rush through maps for some reason (e.g., harvesting), I can recommend the Revenant profession for that.
I just finished. There was a way to approach those “mine fish” from the left and sneak past them.
Geez, this was almost as bad to figure out as the Ember Bay JP. Almost.
Why does ArenaNet love to torture their customers by applying impossible challenges with little reward?
I have been spending the last three hours straight trying to get said achievement, but there is NO WAY of getting this done alone — you cannot get passed the bulk of exploding fish in front of panel #5.
So, there used to be a backway, but for some reason ArenaNet thought it necessary to block that last resort for new players:
Why are they being sadistic like that? Really? This is no fun. Especially since players who did this early on could do it the easy way.
Uhm, how do I do that? I’ve always used the support website, didn’t even know and in-game feature existed.
maybe I should have been more clear. The bug I’m saying exists is the tooltip saying more can be bought even though the limit is 16 (+1). I have no confusion over what the patch notes state. Only here to mention the bug.
It’s not a bug, they just have been lazy adding a warning to some of the Gem Store items while others do have it (or simply no longer display the item to you once you’ve reached the limit). Same thing with special offers packs: some remove the items you already own and lower the price for you, while others don’t.
It’s all very confusing, I understand that, as it is inconsequent. But that’s a thing with many issues in GW2, so you always need to double-check or ask Wiki.
Since ANet offers an option to pay a modest fee to destroy a weapon and replace it with the stats we want, it seems unnecessary for them to spend time creating a new mechanic that would allow HoT owners one type of drop down and non-HoT owners another.
It’s up to you if that’s reasonable or outrageous.
Are you an official spokesperson for ArenaNet? Your replies sure sound like that, always.
They could reprogram the game so that HoT owners get the chance for such drops in all ascended drop areas. But that would involve additional work, of course.

I have been having recurring crashes for a couple of months now: sometimes, when I am typing in Guild Chat and then press Enter, the game crashes immediately.
Permanent sigils make no sense. What does make sense, however, would be the permanent ability to remove upgrades from a piece of armor or a weapon — which should be a feature for Legendaries IMO.
How about, instead of introducing the same weapon in a different color, the devs finally make it possible to dye weapons?
You get spirit shards from Silverwastes bags tho (noxious seed pods) or airship cargo from VB, so he can still get said rewards just in a different way.
That’s Obsidian Shards, not Spirit Shards. Two different things.
Yes, I acquired one shortly before the content was disabled — that’s how I learnt about its existence in the first place. If only I had known earlier…
You can get ascended trinkets much easier by farming Bloodstone Fen and Bitterforst though ^^
Sigh… I know that. ^^
But having the same icons several times on the same character stinks. You have to read twice before equipping the correct trinkets for your current build.
Besides, as I already mentioned, I want it for sentimental purposes (GW1 lore = love).
As I still need ascended trinkets, it is worth it to me, especially since it contains GW1 lore and I love it!
However, the content has been disabled for the time being (hence my question!):
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Ember-Bay-Changes/
I just recently discovered this item’s existence. Any news on when the content will become available again? I’d love to get one.
@OP: There is a misconception in your understanding of the XP bar. It does continue to progress, thus does level your Masteries just fine. It doesn’t matter what game mode you play (except for PvP, which has its own XP system), you will always continue gaining XP. It just takes a little longer than at Level 1. Your usual reward after Level 80 will be a Spirit Shard.
As for leveling Tyrian Masteries: All you need to do is activate the Mastery you currently wish to level, then you will see its progess bar. Once the bar is full, you need the respective amount of Mastery Points in order to finish the track, afterwards you can select the next one you wish to level and so on.
We all did it that way, it’s fairly simple. You don’t have to play any specific game mode for this, however, you need to do stuff that provides Mastery Points, which should be indicated in your journal.

I wouldn’t expect a hotfix for this kind of bug. When the fix comes, it will be included in patch, no doubt.
I know, and I hope that patch will come soon. There are currently so many bugs that need to be addressed. I hope it will be an extensive patch.
…when you can’t change the sigils like you change their stats?
This is a silly question.
No, it is not. First of all, many players I have met in the game think so, too, and second, I believe your argumentation to be “silly”:
Remember when Legendary Weapons were introduced Ascended Weapons did not and even after their introduction the ability to change their stats was not immediate. A completely hotswappable always up-to-date weapon that takes up just one slot is going to always be worth more than whatever paltry gold you spend on sigils. The only time it becomes cumbersome is if you’re constantly swapping which is not a problem of the system but a problem of player consistency.
What nonsense. There are professions that are versatile for a reason. Take my Ranger, for instance. At least three full sets of armor and trinkets are required (I even have four), along with weapons with different sigils that fit the current build:
- Viper (full Condi for Fracs and Raids)
- Magi (full heal for Raids, if required)
- Commander (for WvW)
- optional: Berserker (Glyph DPS build), IMO the best for your everyday solo PvE
Two of these builds require a staff, several of them a sword and/or an axe. All with different stats and sigils. I am not complaining about this, it’s my choice to want to be versatile — I love it, it’s fun.
Now back to my point: When you invest tons and tons of time, effort and mats into building a Legendary Weapon, you should be able to make it usable in any build you want, and just changing the stats does NOT do the trick if you want 100% efficiency. You are better off having simple ascended gear for that purpose than Legendaries, as the latter are only good for their skins and graphic effects — the stat change without the ability to change sigils along with them can only be viewed as a “mere inconvenience” by very few professions whose builds don’t depend on different sigils. It is quite ignorant to say otherwise.
The developer shouldn’t have to, in my opinion, answer for your willingness to just constantly change your mind.
My willingness? I hardly know any players who don’t agree with me on this. But hey, as long as you are happy, everyone else should be too, right?
Legendaries were designed to be purely cosmetic.
When the game came out all legendaries were exotics (ascended equipment didn’t exist) and there was no way to change the stats at all. (If I remember correctly they all had Soldier’s stats.) There was also no wardrobe so if you wanted different stats your only option was to obtain another exotic weapon and use a transmutation stone to combine the two – destroying both the original legendary and the exotic to give you 1 weapon with the stats and skin you wanted.
I didn’t know that. Even though I created my account on release day, I didn’t start playing the game actively until Christmas 2015. Thanks for the insight.
(edited by Ashantara.8731)
It is the skin and showing off. From a stats POV it is the same as ascended unless you think you will be changing stat sets.
Yes, I know that. My question was more of a rhetorical nature — and criticizing the fact that after more than four years, the devs still haven’t considered this problem important enough to do something about it.
It’s the main reason I haven’t invested too much into legendaries yet, because I somehow don’t see the point in doing so. For instance, playing a Druid, I would like a staff I could adept to my current build — it would spare me some inventory space. But since I can’t change the sigils at will like I could the stats, there is no point in acquiring one (other than the skin).
They keep adding legendaries, but they can’t do something about this vital issue? How sad is that?
Clunky controls and terrible camera angles make for a bad JP experience for me. I avoid ’em.
Indeed, the only truly bad thing that is responsible for many JPs being a major pain in the behind is the camera.
Since they knew they were going to do JPs in GW2, they should have made it so that all textures behind the character (i.e., between the character and the player’s screen) automatically fade out in tight space environments. Often, you can’t even see where are you heading/jumping because you simply have no line of sight whatsoever. That’s what makes it extremely frustrating at times.
I recently purchased the Heart of Thorns expansion and discovered that it has an important undocumented change – So important to my play style that I chose to have ArenaNet remove HoT from my account.
For some strange reason, it appears that ArenaNet chose to disable the dailies that take place in the orignal Tyria zones as part of the Heart of Thorns expansion.
Nope, not true.
May I ask why you created a new account and didn’t just buy HoT for your existing one? Doesn’t make much sense IMO to try manage two full-fledged accounts where you level masteries, buy expansions etc.
Just a quick update to let you know that the bug still hasn’t been fixed.
…when you can’t change the sigils like you change their stats?
I mean, what good is a weapon that — in theory — can be used by all your characters, when you constantly have to overwrite expensive sigils with new ones or spend RL money in order to buy tons of upgrade extractors?
It makes the whole thing 100% pointless, unless it’s for the purpose of showing off (or if you like the skin).
The game is in desperate need of new fun content besides LW and add-ons. I assume ArenaNet is majorly understaffed if they can’t even fix severe bugs in vital content right away nor provide some variety in the already existing annual festivities.
The non-Celestial Avatar versions of the glyphs are being used in melee (weapon switch), not with the staff equipped.
No, previous iteration of BL Chests always had a booster in the first slot and during events we got a 4th slot with the seasonal event item.
That’s it! There was a permanent additional slot for seasonal items. I knew something used to be different before. Thanks!
P.S. Back then, I would occasionally receive truly rare drops like home instance nodes or permanent contracts — something that hasn’t happened at all since the BLC functionality update.
Fractals, along with everything else that was introduced before the release of HoT, has not been updated to HoT stat combos.
You are right, it’s an outrage — one of many things I consider sloppy business by Anet.
