There is another place that spawns giants — that actually do count as giants — that aren’t champions. I think it’s in Brisban, but I’ll check to be certain. It’s a dynamic event that spawns extra giants depending on how many people are present. But yes, they need to change to creatures in Orr to be giants, not to be undead.

This achievement is crazy.

Edit: I believe it is in Aurora’s Remains in the SW corner of Brisban Wildlands. The event kicks off about every 10-15 minutes and with more people in the area more giants will spawn.

millions of excess silk scraps/thick leather

in Black Lion Trading Co

Aye.8392

Instead of selling plushie backpack skins that are already stuffed they could sell the “flat” skins. How “poofy” your backpack became would depend on how much silk you stuffed into it.

Instead of selling finished items in the gem store they could sell “consumable patterns” level 400 recipes for crafting town clothes or toys that require some specific material; this would also incentivize high level crafting. Were they to allow the pattern to be used 2 or 3 times before self-destructing people could have the option of selling the finished product or crafting for more than one character.

Or, if the recipe was durable but created only account bound items then it would be an ongoing sink — in essence turning the player into their very own “festival hat maker” for that particular item. As a player I wouldn’t have to worry about storing a seldom used item forever, but when I did want to create a copy I’d have to consume the materials again.

Looking for info on guilds/ a guild.

Aye.8392

You know you might do a little research on game mechanics yourself. You don’t have to trust people that say guilds can’t take your experience, or that MOST guilds don’t enforce a guild tax — you could go and find out for yourself. When you do that research you will find that it’s actually impossible for a guild to take your experience. You will provide influence to your guild when you do things, but that does not in any way affect your experience earning. You will continue to gain levels at the rate of about 1 lever per 2.5 hours of active play whether you are or aren’t in a guild.

Next question is — if you do join a guild and they do give you information or tips about the game are you going to believe them? If not, you should probably just stay solo.

Eeaiest way to earn 3 HoM without eotn?

in Players Helping Players

Aye.8392

Complete the three campaigns + bonus
Get all elite skills
Get a golden and green minipet
Get your nightfall heroes special armor, get the special pets

That should net you 10 points or so when you put them in the HoM.

The person only wants 3 more points?? you have that with M.O.X. (one point) and the black moa bird (animal companion one) (2 points).

So why advise him to do much much more then his goal??

Besides that if he does what you are saying he ends up with 19 HoM points and not 10:

While I agree that Marnick is advising far more than is needed I wonder what makes you believe the OP has Factions for the Moa Bird or Nightfall to allow heroes? In actuality both campaigns would be required for your suggestion to work, which didn’t sound likely from the post.

Disappointed that F&F ends w/ a dungeon

in Flame and Frost

Aye.8392

Hello! Thanks for starting this thread. :-)

As one of the designers for the Molten Weapons Facility, I would just like to say that one of our chief concerns throughout the development of Retribution was to address this very issue. We worked hard to ensure that the dungeon experience we have crafted is not simply possible to complete by groups of all different skill levels and compositions, but more importantly that it is lots of fun and rewarding for everyone. I understand the concerns about jumping into a 5-man instance if you’re more accustomed to solo play – in fact as a player I typically share those feelings, so rest assured that such concerns have been and continue to be addressed firsthand by our team!

Flame and Frost has so far made use of many of the different types of content available to players of Guild Wars 2. There have been open world dynamic events, solo instances, scavenger-hunts and achievements. In this case, with the culmination of Flame and Frost, given all the tools in our tool kit as developers, a 5-man instance was really the thing that made the most sense for us to pursue, as it enabled us to best tell the conclusion to this story arc in the way that we wanted.

We’re paying careful attention to this balance of content types, and the Living World teams will always strive to offer a variety of content to our players on a regular basis, and to make that content as compelling, and accessible, as possible.

Speaking personally, I hope you’ll join all of us on the Flame and Frost team and give the Molten Weapons Facility a try when it releases next week!

Now I’m afraid… Please tell me this will allow organized, pre-made, teams and it isn’t like Keg Brawl or the Tixx finale.

You have some good ideas about things to add longevity without creating a gear grind, and they are definitely things I’d like to see. Unfortunately, I think they are also rather involved and not a quick, or easy fix. Hopefully this is something that the dev team is already at work on.

In the meantime have you tried Fractals? Some of the fractal skins are amazing. What about the new guild missions, have you done all of those? Ever gone on a Temple circuit in the Cursed Shore and gotten every single temple open for your server at the same time — that’s one of my current goals. Do you have any guildmates that are working toward the Dungeon Master title? Dungeons are good fun if you don’t just run the same path into the ground over and over again. There is actually quite a bit to do at 80th beyond WvW, but jumping back into WvW a couple of times a week is fun, too.

If you decide to take a break there’s sure no harm done since there isn’t a subscription fee or steep gear progression, but hanging out and playing with your friends is a much nicer option.

in Players Helping Players

Nope, you need EotN to actually get the points. What you can do is get to the end of each game without finishing them. Then, when you get Eye, run the last mission in each game, and you’ll get three statues you can put in EotN.

I think you’ve misunderstood his question. He knows that he’ll have to buy EotN but can’t get it immediately. So, he’d like to know if he can earn the points now to put in the Hall when he does buy EotN.

Yes, OP, that will work just fine. Just finish whatever campaign you do have, including every mission and bonus mission.

I, fortunately, was not banned, but I’m terrified. I don’t think I’ve done anything exploitative or banworthy, but then again, I can’t be sure that my normal gameplay doesn’t include something banworthy in the eyes of ANet.

Some disclosure and transparency with whatever the ban was, now that it has been closed, would be greatly appreciated. If we don’t know the details of the exploit, there’s a huge feeling that anyone could get banned at any time without their knowing something they did was wrong.

Yes, we need some type of explanation. Especially for those players that mostly play dungeons and Fractals. Even something as simple as, “It was a map exploit” or, “It was a chest exploit” or, “There is no possible way that you could engage in this particular 5 step exploit without realizing that there was an issue.” Something to assure legitimate players that they couldn’t be engaging in a bannable offense without ever realizing that it was happening.

I don’t have to listen to a relative newcomer to my guild kitten that, “So-and-so (who has been a valuable member of my guild for six years, has been a part of the foundation that the guild was built upon, but who currently has other things going on in his life) is an officer, and he hasn’t been on for a month!”

An honest question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

It took me about 6 months of playing GW1 to get past the progression mindset — past believing that my character’s numbers needed to go up for me to be getting somewhere in the game. But all during that time I was gaining skill, knowledge, experience (not a number but a deep down understanding of the game, what was needed, and why); I could decide to go and pick up this elite, or that 2nd profession or move some attribute points to the Tactics line even though I was a monk and Tactics was a warrior’s attribute line… That’s when the epiphany of the true beauty of horizontal progression struck. It wasn’t just about looking pretty or having shiny armor. It was about becoming a better player and consequently knowing how to make your character better.

That’s the problem that I’m having now with GW2. The skills are on the weapons or in the trait lines, there is no new elite skill to go capture, there’s no sense of learning or understanding… I don’t want gear progression, I want mental challenge. Gear progression is like buying a new set of MtG cards and getting lucky with several ultra powerful cards compared to learning the tricks and finesse of Bridge with the same old 52 card deck that everyone else uses. I want the subtleties of GW1 back, because this game doesn’t have them; or if it does I haven’t found them yet. Sure, there’s twitch talent — knowing when to dodge or hit F4 for that second of invulnerability, and perhaps that’s the deeper skill that the devs are hoping that we’ll find.

This game is so beautiful, the combat is visceral and dynamic, the organic grouping is absolutely amazing; but still, for me, something is lacking. Personally, I’d love to have the layers of knowledge that GW1 demanded somehow placed into GW2. That’s the “progression” that I’m missing.

Aye.8392

Hi Shaeyl,

I’m the leader of Alchemy Incorporated, a big, little guild on the Sorrow’s Furnace server. I say a big little guild because we have 200 members which makes us pretty big, but we are very friendly and welcoming, the way you’d expect a small guild to be. Also, I don’t kick for inactivity, so there are quite a few names on the roster that haven’t logged in for a while. There are also some people on the active members list that had been gone since Halloween and decided to come back in the last couple of weeks — they came back to people who remembered them and were excited to see them. In my mind that matters more than having some gray names at the bottom of the list So, if you were a member of AI and took a 2 month hiatus you’d come back to friendly names and faces and probably loud and raucuous welcomes

We also have friends and allies who are members of smaller guilds that come and play with us just for the Guild missions so that they can get commendations. I like having the ability to meet new people and to help out, so those grey names are on the roster, too; except when we do guild missions — but they have a special rank so no one is expecting them to be representing. Of the 200 people on the roster we usually have 30 – 40 people on nightly, which is plenty to get teams going for whatever activity you would like to pursue. You will absolutely have the opportunity to make great friends if you spend some time in AI.

Most of the guild is PvE — dungeons, fractals, WvW, but we also have a PvPer who just loves to teach the PvP game. If you are really looking for someone to help you become awesome I can promise you a very sound introduction to the format.

You are welcome to join us, play with us for a bit and decide if we are what you’re looking for. If so, we’ll get you moved over to Sorrow’s Furnace because we’re cool like that. If not, there’s no harm done — there won’t be any drama over either coming or going.

You can check out our recruitment post and our Guild Forums and let me know if you would be interested in joining.

Have fun — kill stuff!

Really want to start getting some commendations, but am not really looking for a guild right now (I might in the future though).

Bounties work for people who are guesting to a server, so if you find a guild that is willing to allow you to participate with them it doesn’t matter what server they are on. Just guest over, represent the guild, and get your hits in.

No, the two of you can’t realistically solo these mobs. But if you offer to take along some PUG members, you should do fine. It will help yourselves out and it will also benefit your server.

PUGs really might be a good choice, but if you really want to just duo there are some bosses that I believe could work. Poobadoo has a very short path, making him easy to find, and he doesn’t have incredibly nasty tactics. He could probably be two-manned. The one that just walks the inner portion of Ebonhawke — can’t remember her name right now — could probably be two-manned. If you do your research beforehand, know the tactics and the paths of 3 or 4 bosses then chances are good one of those will be on your T3 bounty.

Dear Bishop,
We are certainly going to be doing all PvP activities! We will have at least 20 starting members per Guild, with 5 of them being from the company. We will have one Guild for each server, and each Guild will hold the maximum amount of members (500). We plan on making these Guilds very large.

I have a few questions:

Who will be running your guilds?
Will each server have different officers/leadership/forums/VoIP?
Will you be serving the European or the American servers?
How many employees does Game Sector have?
Are you planning to build your own LFG tool? If so, will those be server specific too?

Will you be using the same rule set for each of the guilds, and have those been created yet? I know that I would never consider joining a guild where I didn’t know the rules for representation, activity, language, age requirements, etc. Have those been created yet?

This seems very ambitious. Good luck

GW2 setup for multiple guilds

in Guilds

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

This thread just proves the fact that different people think differently. I agreed 100% with what Vancien said in thier post when i first started playing GW2. But as time goes by i understand more of the other side of the coin too. If you are one of those specialty guilds then cool. If you a person that wants a different group of friends for each of your different aspects of the game then i guess that works for you. But if your a person who wants real, close, personal, FRIENDSHIPS with peole then youll probably be one of the ones that is interested in a group that has 100% representation required.

I have to disagree here. My guildmates are my friends, and some of them are close friends. I don’t try to control their time any more than I try to control the time of friends that I see in the everyday world. I have had the same best friend for 40 years, we see each other regularly and still enjoy the company, but she doesn’t tell me that I can’t go to the movies with someone else, and I don’t tell her that if she chooses to spend the day at the park playing with her grandson that she’s abandoning me. My guild-mates are the same way. They can go and play somewhere else for a little while — they’ll be back soon enough and it’s not going to damage our friendship. Or maybe they “live” in another guild and just drop by to say hello every couple of weeks — that’s fine with me too. When they do choose to drop by I will enjoy the pleasure of their company. That social aspect is far more important to me than influence. I care about my guildmates because I like them, not because of the currency they can provide for my guild.

As just a guild leader, and without ever considering the friendship angle, I don’t expect that I can provide everything for every type of player 100% of the time. Even with running bounties/missions sometimes 3 times a week there are still people whose real life schedules conflict. In my reckoning it would be a shame for those players to miss personal rewards because of work schedules, when they could go run with another guild who needs and welcomes the help for those missions.

I have guild leaders who are also members of my guild that pop into guild chat, say hello, tell the members that are on and repping my guild at the time that they’re going to run a bounty, or that they have 2 spots for Arah open, and ask if anyone would like to go along with them. Lots of times that gives them the few extra people that they need to be successful — I consider that a good thing, both for the small guild and for my members that are looking for something to do at the time.

I figure the happier people are in their day-to-day game play the longer they’re going to keep playing the game; that translates directly to me being able to associate with them longer. That is my ultimate goal — a great game and great people to enjoy it with.

Guild Based Questions

in Guilds

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

For gaining influence the main thing is doing things while teamed up with others in your guild. If a solo player completes an event they earn 2 influence. If a team of 2 guild members completes an event they earn 20 influence. Players earn 10 influence points for completing a dungeon, but if there are 3 members from the same guild on the team they earn 100 influence. So, if you have a team of even 2 players running through PvE doing events or through WvW, killing yaks, killing guards, helping the zerg where needed, then the influence for that very tiny guild will add up faster than a medium sized guild where everyone does everything solo.

It’s one of the reasons that recruiting married couples or domestic partners is so appealing to guilds — the teaming up is built in. Of course, the best for influence gain is having a guild of people that actually enjoys playing together and teams together to do most things.

Guild: last login from a member

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

But, if you only have 150 members then there are plenty of slots for you to grow without resorting to kicking other people. Sometimes people wander away for a couple of weeks or even a couple of months, then come back to playing again. Last night I saw two of our members, a husband/wife team, log in that hadn’t been on since Halloween! It was great to see them again and it sounds like they’ll be able to be back in the game regularly, but even if they aren’t in often when they sign in they’ll be able to find a dungeon team, or do fractals, or jump into WvW without having to worry about meeting new people to do so.

Having those greyed out names at the bottom of the roster absolutely doesn’t hurt. You just also need to have green ones at the top; the green is what you need to work on — the grey can be safely ignored. If you spend as much time and effort on getting and keeping active players as it would take to e-mail 140 people, wait for responses, cross them off your list, kick them, and deal with the bad feelings that new people would have if walking into a guild and seeing a history of its leaders kicking 140 members, you’ll have plenty of green and also the great feeling of seeing old friends when they do decide to pick up the game and play again.

At the risk of extreme backlash, might I suggest that it’s ok to lose? The chance of losing makes it thrilling. I like a challenge, don’t you? If you are still convinced you need more numbers, ally with another guild and get help on bounties. Make sure you understand each bosses mechanics and the best way to counter their defense. Happy hunting!

I agree that it’s okay to lose! I want the possibilty of a loss, but I also want a fair shake at a win. There are a few bosses that don’t give that, especially for a small group.

You mentioned Sparkfly where Crusader Michelle is so we’ll use them .

No, I mentioned Sparkfly Swamp with suspicious trees, which is Big Mayana not Crusader Michiele — are you making the argument that Big Mayana is not difficult for a small group to find?

You have options Unknown. If you join a guild that asks for 100% representation you should be prepared to rep 100% of the time. Or to leave the guild. If that isn’t what you want then you should join guilds that allow or even encourage multi-guilding; they do exist. If you aren’t happy in your guild because of this issue then you should leave the guild, not expect them to change to suit you.

You what that tells me?That tells me most if not all of those 8 got their Dungeon Master title using broken or exploity mechanics and now that they face a challenge cant figure it out . Quite frankly though i would think bounties would be easier to find cause once you know your targets you can swarm a zone in all areas of their route which is posted on line.

Nonsense. And not just nonsense, but rude nonsense. You would think bounties would be easier to find? Don’t you know?

You are making sweeping statements here, but I think you are making them from a position of ignorance. Gendarran is a huge zone — just try “swarming” it with 8 people; the same with Sparkfly Swamp and the suspicious trees. Tricksie generally takes more than 15 minutes to find, even with 6 or 7 people in that one, single area.

It should absolutely be possible to fail bounties, otherwise success means about as much as killing Jormag. But, it should also be more than luck of the draw that determines whether you can succeed. A well played boss hunt from a coordinated guild that is willing to learn encounter mechanics should result in guild merits.

being a dungeon master does not translate into being good at everything else in the game. On the other hand , playing WvW or SPvp regularly will increase your PvE skill assuming you have max gear.

Being a dungeon master means that you have spent time learning different boss mechanics and how to defeat them. It means you pay attention to tells and know how to avoid damage. It means you’ve worked on your ability to coordinate with others to have a successful run in many different circumstances and environments. It should translate very well to being able to complete the bounties.

But, some of the bounties are very difficult to face in group play — having people who don’t understand the mechanics of the encounter join in from map makes the boss almost impossible to take down, and since the patch some of the bounty targets are very difficult to find.

The challenge for completing a T2 bounty definitely increased with the March 26 patch. I’m just not sure whether that was or wasn’t A-Net’s goal.
