What should I spend my karma on?

Aye.8392

What would you like to be able to spend it on?

I like the jewelry box option. But outside of that a lot of the same things that we can use laurels on now. So… Laurels! Ascended items, minis that aren’t account bound, black lion keys, cultural armor. I never really understood why cultural was moved from Karma to Gold. More/different jewelry box type stuff — a flute case that has a chance at musical items like the christmas bells, a momento box that gives a rare chance at past holiday items/skins. Emotes. Let me use karma to buy the old Zaishen spear as a finisher. Speed booster buffs. Town Clothes.

But yes, more Karma sinks would be very welcome.

What should I spend my karma on?

Aye.8392

Armor, weapons, crafting recipes, food items, Jewelry boxes that give you chances at money, lodestones or a mini but more importantly allow you to transfer karma to a lower level character that can use it, trinkets… Lots of stuff. How many karma dealers are in the game anyway? If you were a GW1 fan, buy a broken flute from the karma dealer in Ebonhawke, buy booze, buy…

It’s money, just like gold is money — buy stuff!

Am I missing something?

Aye.8392

I’ll venture a guess that you’re playing solo. Playing solo is fine sometimes, maybe even a lot of times, but in the long run playing with people is far more enjoyable. Having a laugh while doing the heart, or having someone around who can rez you if you get overrun or happen to fall off a cliff — generally speaking it’s more fun to play with someone instead of alone.

I don’t really care for renown hearts, so mostly I don’t do them. I do talk to the NPCs around the heart and see if I can start a dynamic event and a lot of times playing in the dynamic event will fill the heart just as a side-effect. WvW is great fun and gives good exp and karma, so you can level there as easily as you would doing renown hearts — if the rewards were good I might never leave

Also, have you tried a different profession? If you’re not having fun just playing the game you might not have the profession that you would most enjoy. I started with an engineer and a lot of the game play was very slow, but when I switched to mesmer my enjoyment went way up. Suddenly, everything was fun.

But really, first and foremost, try playing some open world leveling type content with a party instead of solo.

Requesting tips to improve guild activity

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

If you’re going to have a casual guild you really can’t force people to go. Even if members have time to play the game while the event is happening they might regard their playtime as precious and prefer to get a dungeon completed as opposed to playing hide-and-seek on that particular day.

The best thing to encourage participation is for people to talk about how much fun they’ve had at the event, post funnies on your forums, tag jokes that happened during the event in guild chat — let people know what they’ve missed or what fun they could have next time.

What Danikat said about too many events is really important too. If there is an event happening every time they sign on then they have to bow out if they EVER want to get that dungeon path completed.

Sadly once again there is no new PVE content, heaps to do for fans of PVP, but we have had no new PVE content introduced since Fractals.

Im starting to think there is no point playing this game anymore as clearly the developers have no interest in PVE.

We were promised an “expansion worth of content”, ArenaNet has failed to deliver on this promise thus far.

Flame and Frost? Dynamic leveling changes? New daily/monthly content? Laurels?

Oops, My Guild Died While I Wasn't Looking

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

Influence is still in use, however, it can be earned through relatively unremarkable actions such as simply logging in. Completing the new guild content will require the skill and coordination of your guild, so we have made special rewards deserving of that feat.

Also, influence is a shared currency, whereas the merits are earned both on the guild and personal level. There will be more information soon.

This is very intriguing. Also, a bit frightening. I love the idea of more guild activities, but I don’t really love the idea of yet another currency. Influence, at least as it works right now, isn’t a great thing. It doesn’t actually contribute toward the guild, it contributes toward each server. When I spend my influence on what is supposed to be a guild wide bonus only the members on my particular server benefit. But I do love that the acquisition of influence is mostly invisible on the guild’s main server. No one can accuse any member of not producing enough influence, because no one knows who has or hasn’t been productive. That’s a good thing, and helps keep drama to a minimum.

Will upgrades/perks purchased with Guild Merits benefit every guild member regardless of their server? Will Merits become the new Faction, inspiring OCD type guild leaders to require that each member earn some number of Merits each week or be kicked? Will Guild Merits inspire members to leave guilds they were previously happy to be in?

Hi Seraki,

I know the feeling I am the 53-year-old, female, leader of Alchemy Incorporated, a social guild on Sorrows Furnace. AI has 138 members and we have groups forming about every night for dungeons and fractals. We do some open world events, WvW as a group once or twice a week and basically just hang out together We have a good time.

Also, I believe in the Multi-Guild approach and encourage people to play with other guilds if AI isn’t providing everything you need/want at the moment and if you aren’t into WvW you can feel free to avoid the server transfer fee and guest over for open world events. Also, we have an allied guild that runs tPvP on Wednesday nights and some very noobie friendly, for-fun-only gimmicky tournaments on Friday nights — sometimes they even pull out some wins

I haven’t been actively recruiting for awhile, but you can check out our old recruitment post here:

Laurels. Thoughts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

OP’s complaints are valid, and are easily remedied if ANet makes laurels purchasable through karma/badges of honor/skills points etc.

Which defeats the whole point of getting people out of LA and playing the game. If you could trade tokens for laurels people would just do speed runs for them.

The same for doing them on multiple characters, start toon do daily delete start toon etc etc 30 laurels from a weekend grind.

Ok in a few months when people have rings and amulets and laurels are sitting in the bank if you “miss” a day wont seem so bad but i understand the OP’s point i feel guilty if i dont do the daily atm.

If once a week you got a daily double ie miss the previous day you do twice as much today for 2 laurels it would give people a little more flexability.

No, making laurels convertible through currencies that you acquire from doing anything (karma, skill points) or WvW will get people out of LA. The current laurels for dailies system does not get people out of LA because its still much slower than fractals, hence why gw2lfg.com is still filled with fractal listings.

Or it could be that there are quite a few people who consider Fractals fun and a good group activity.

I want to be able to play alongside them, without completely overwhelming their efforts and without having to work at keeping my characters on an even level with theirs.

I’m guessing that people who are complaining about limiting ability when downleveling are mostly solo players.

Really thank you for ask more then 20$ in gems to transfer to a high population server where of course the fun will be more!

You lost a player and hopefully you will keep loosing more and more till you will need to reduce the number of server and made some free transfer!

If you need money just ask for a month fee like other are doing (WoW, Rift, EvE) do not do this subtle actions!

GG DEV

Wait, you’d rather pay $15 every single month forever plus $5 to transfer servers than to pay $0 every month and $22.50 that can, if you choose, be paid for with game gold instead of real world money, on the rare occasion that you want to change servers?

People are odd creatures.

If you want to complain about the high price to transfer to a highly populated server that seems like a legitimate complaint; $22.50 is very high for a server transfer. But tying the complaint to no subscription fee makes no sense.

Monthly Salvaging Question.

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

I have never salvaged an item before nor have I done a dungeon, oh dear.

You’re in for a treat!

If you have never salvaged an item then you probably also have very little gold, because this game’s economy is based around salvages. Salvaging oftentimes makes you money. Salvage white heavy armor level 70 and above for the chance of Orichalcum and light white armor for the chance of gossamer. Use the basic salvage kit for whites and for salvage items like discarded garments or metal scraps. Medium armor yields leather, so you’re probably better off merching it without salvaging. Salvage low level rares with a master’s or mystic kit for the rune or sigil, salvage high level (level 68 or above) rares with the master/mystic for a chance at ecto. Check exotic pieces for high priced runes or sigils and salvage those with a Black Lion kit or, if the rune/sigil isn’t worth much and you can’t get a good price for the complete item from the TP, salvage with a mystic kit for an even better chance at ecto than the rares give you.

Dungeons are good fun if you have a party of guildies, and you can both guild and join dungeons cross server. If your current guild parties up for dungeons jump in with them. If they don’t consider finding a second guild that does do that — you don’t have to leave your first guild, so you just have the opportunity to add more friends without losing anything you already have. Multi-guilding is great for players who want to do many different things.

Have fun

I don’t understand how earning a virtual currency can be fun if the the intent is to aquire more. Sounds more like psychological disorder to me.

Nah, it’s just one more way that people keep score. Some people keep score with money, some people keep score with titles, some with experience points, some with achievement points, some with eye candy — I have a guildie who is constantly broke, but he always looks good! I have another guildie with plenty of money still running around in blues and greens because to her the money number is important. For me it’s my guild roster that is my major score keeper. Fifteen percent actually makes sense when you consider the different ways of keeping score.

Currency isn’t a high score. It’s a medium of exhcange required for goods and services. The purpose of money is to exchange hands, not to sit in one place. Money that isn’t moving is useless and serves no purpose. In the real world governments are forced to redistribute wealth to keep the wheels of the economy spinning. Especially if the private sector isn’t doing it.

This isn’t the real world, it’s a game. This money is pixelated, pretend, currency used to purchase pixelated, pretend items. And, just like in Monopoly, it is most definitely a way to keep score.

If you’re playing GW1, having fun, enjoying the game and the people that you’re playing with then it’s worth it. If you didn’t have a great time before then it’s safe to say that it isn’t worth it. It’s just skins, and some of the requirements are pretty involved.

More than anything else I use my portal stone as an AFK fort. If I have to be away for a bit I’ll activate the portal stone and go to the HoM, when I’m back to playing I’ll hit the stone again and be right back in the world. philosophy on raids?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aye.8392

…I don’t know enough people, nor is the guild I’m currently in large enough or h4rdcor3 1337z enough to pull together a big mess of players to go and do some piece of massive content…

That’s really not a good argument for GW1. If the guild you are currently in is small and can’t do that content it’s fine — join another one. Another, not a different one. You can be in up to 5 separate guilds, so you can enjoy your small, tight-knit group and, if you do actually want to see the large-scale content, switch over to the big, organized, guild for a “raid” and then switch back immediately following your success (or failure). That’s one of the truly great innovations in Guild Wars 2.

It’s okay for the game to have content that some players choose not to participate in. Guild missions are coming, and I’d wager they will contain some of the raid-like content that so many people would enjoy having. I just hope they leave gear tiers out of it.

Social Game Concerns - Guesting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

@Ceder Of Tyria

Since day 1 there has been a distinct technical differences between EU and NA servers. The fact that you could enter dungeon instances only with players on servers from your region was the biggest clue, at least to me, that there would never be cross-region guesting.

I think the best hope now is a server consolidation that might make off-peak times on Gunnar’s more attractive for our US members, or visa-a-versa with Yak’s ..

The question is why was that your biggest clue? Why wasn’t A-Net open and honest about that to begin with? Why is this the first time that A-Net has said anything except, “We want you to play with your friends whether they are next door or on another continent.” Yes, that’s a phrase that was used when discussing guesting. But lordy, we shoulda known by the way dungeons worked that it wasn’t gonna happen.

The very least they could do is to continue to allow free transfers between regions. And honestly, that needs to go back to happening without the 1 week time restriction. Their whole we can’t make it work routine is tiresome. Fine, don’t make it work, but then don’t enforce paid transfers between regions. That already DOES work.

Not everyone ganking people in the jp is an angry little person. Honestly, you can have some really interesting skirmishes because of the terrain in there.

However, if you think anyone who actually likes to pvp is going to let you walk by and get a handful of free siege that you probably wouldn’t have bought(It seems that most people that complain about the JP are people who don’t really care about wvw or ever pony up their own Coin for siege), then you’re wrong. I’ll kick you off the ledge every time, that’s less potential siege I have to deal with later.

Sorry, PvP happens in PvP zones.

I wish I could sell those siege thingies I got from map completion…. I might scratch them soon. Don’t assume everybody who does that JP does them for the siege thingies.

Even though the siege weapons say they are soulbound you can give them to another player. Go to a safe place and take them out as if you were going to use them. But, instead of using one of the two skills on your bar hit the drop bundle button. Other players will be able to pick those up and they will become soulbound to the character that picks them up. It’s odd, but it works, and the devs have acknowledged that they know about it, and that it is working as intended.

I’m bumping this back up because it deserves more attention. Loyalty seems a good approach, or some other method of disconnecting WvW from the server issues. I like playing WvW and I can certainly see that free transfers need to stop to server WvW’s best interest. BUT! That doesn’t server the best interest of many other players in the game, and losing the ability to even sometimes play with those on European servers isn’t worth it. It’s just not worth it.

Precursors vs. Discontinued & Holiday Skins

I understand that there are more greatsaws currently but what about in a few months? And they can never be resupplied except from the few people are currently sitting on and those will diminish as well. What is stopping someone from buying all those up and putting some back up for much more?

Same with mystic forge nodes. They are one of the key components for conduits. Currently the other rare components are 20g+ yet nodes are 1g. Someone could easily cut off the supply to one of the parts you need to make nodes and then buy up all the nodes and relist them at ten times the price or more and make a ridiculous amount of gold.

However since no one has done this I’m assuming there is some key obvious thing I’m missing.

I don’t believe that is entirely true. The skins can be crafted if you have the proper recipe. The recipe now… that’s another story, once used that’s used forever.

Question for the "Wealthy" TP traders

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

I think this entire thread sums up one of the two things I like least about this game. In order to do well, you really shouldn’t “play” it – at least, not in the traditional sense (jumping puzzles, WvW, dungeons, PvP, story, grinding, whatever). The people who do the “best” in the game (which is subjective – but certainly the people with the most purchasing power, which is objective) are the ones playing the TP pvp game. It can be frustrating to be particularly bad at TP pvp and know that it makes me worse, relatively, as opposed to just being bad at playing the game, which seems more palatable. The main consolation prize is that most progression is horizontal, but there’s still a false premise generally being sold: that skill or time or effort playing the game is rewarding. TP pvp is far more rewarding with less time or effort by an evidently wide margin. And even horizontal progression is still intended progression: and still purchasing power reigns supreme.

Of course, an end-game that consisted of high-end raiding (as opposed to TP pvp and gambling, the other major form of progression) was something I didn’t care for much, either, so maybe it’s all relative in the end. But it’s just packaged differently enough that it seems disingenuous to my Western tastes.

You also need to keep in mind that there is more than one hard currency in the game. You can play and reap the rewards of Karma that allows you to acquire many of the same things that the TP provides. You can play the game and acquire dungeon tokens, or fractal relics, or even influence. True that you won’t have the gold in your pocket that someone playing TP PvP will have, but that’s just one way to keep score when in fact there are many, many different ways that MMO players keep score: rank, achievement points, guild rosters, character customization through skins, WvW tier, and the ever subjective “fun” ie how much you actively enjoy making score. Gold is just one measure of wealth/reward.

This thread is intended to serve as a straight yes-or-no [I don’t know is also acceptable] poll on many of the discussions currently on going. This thread is not intended to continue those discussions, please visit the relevant threads and participate. Also, as a subset of the community I [the compiler] and you [the participant] are/should be aware that our percentage numbers may not reflect the community as a whole. This is strictly informative to the people currently participating. Pending sufficient responses, I will periodically update with current percentages.

The Dirty Dozen:
1) Would you prefer ascended gear to be the last tier implemented for the remainder of GW2?
2) Would you prefer ascended gear to be equal to exotic gear in all statistics except agony resistance?
3) Would you prefer the level cap to remain at 80 for the remainder of GW2?
4) Would you prefer if WvW was set up on an equal playing field similar to PvP?
5) Would you prefer if WvW / PvP / PvE had separate skill functionalities?
6) Would you prefer if Magic Find was removed from the game completely?
7) Would you prefer if Magic Find was divided equally amongst all party members?
8) Is GW2 too ‘Grindy?’
9) Does GW2 need less RNG?
10) Has the Trading Post [and all its users/farmers] positively impacted the economy?
11) Do you have as much faith [and/or enthusiasm] about the game [and/or company] as you did before launch?
12) Do you reasonably expect [many of] your primary concerns to be addressed in early 2013?

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. No
5. Too broad — Skill function should stay the same with as few exceptions as possible
6. No
7. Yes
8. No
9. Both yes and no. The Mystic Forge is horrific, ultra rares should be able to come from random drops.
10. Yes
11. No
12. Many, but not most. I have LOTS of concerns

Should servers be WvW exclusive?

The original post referenced districts. Overflow would be a form of district. It isn’t a named server, but it exists to break the population into manageable chunks. I certainly wasn’t advocating every player being handled by the same hardware, just having a different type of nomenclature for the separations with WvW being it’s own special case.

Question about upcoming guild changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Will the team be looking at providing us with one, world-wide guild instead of the server branches that we have currently? It looks like many social guilds will be losing the ability to keep members on their own home world because of WvW concerns, but I’d really like for members to be able to benefit from guild bonuses, infrastructure and earn influence while repping the guild even if they switch home worlds. Is the team working toward this goal? Is it even a goal for anyone except guild leaders?

Should servers be WvW exclusive?

There’s a whole lot more than gathering nodes that would have to be reworked — the whole guild system is based on the server infrastructure. Every server has it’s own “branch” of a guild the same way it has it’s own nodes. But man, if they could manage it it would be killer. They could let us choose “totems” to represent instead of server names… You know, the Commoners, the Snow Leopards, the Stags, the Ash… Anything besides further slintering and fragmenting our guilds.

It’s been a hard news week for guilds, especially the ones that existed in GW1.

Something I wish I could remove from the game

Money.

Imagine this game had no money systems. At all. People played certain areas because they wanted to. Because the design was great.

You’re playing with the wrong people. You can do exactly that and still get money

Loot already changed in WvW

in WvW

Last night while playing WvW I had drops like I’ve never seen before. I know it’s possible that it’s just RNG, but I had a named exotic, another exotic, a Black Lion Key, 2 rares and a bunch of trash drops. It more than made up for paying for a WP upgrade, armor repairs and siege.

I didn’t expect loot changes until after the WvW update hit. Have you guys noticed a change already?

Guesting and guild influence?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If you are guesting your home server receives the influence. So if your WvW guild is on one server and your social guild is on another guesting with your social guild will not net them influence.

This is a rather backward way for A-Net to decide to do things, since WvW dictates the home, but that is what Martin has told us.

I want to take my guild with me.

I created a guild on opening day. Everyone in the guild that had bought the DD or CE popped their influence and we set to playing and enjoying our guild members, having a great time, and building influence along the way. Right now we have every upgrade available completed, and about 100,000 influence to spend, and we make it faster than we can possibly spend it.

We’ve been expecting to be able to guest over to visit our European friends and allies, but with the bombshell that A-Net dropped the other day, that we can’t guest across regions that possibility is gone. At this point we have full knowledge that if we are going to be able to play together someone HAS to switch servers and regions, so we have to decide who will move and to where.

Right now my guild is located on Sorrows Furnace which is in the last tier WvW and it doesn’t look to be getting any better. After we chose the server at launch the South American Hispanic community decided to make it the unofficial Spanish server and a good portion of the population doesn’t speak English in map chat or in WvW. Many of my members would like to change servers before they begin to charge for the switch and, to top it all off, the Devs tell us yesterday that content is coming that will build on the upgrade tiers that are already in place for guilds. They don’t say what, they don’t let us make any informed decisions, they just put a vague statement out there.

It really sucks that my guild can’t take what we’ve earned with us if we decide to change servers. But, starting over again with nothing wouldn’t be nearly as big a deal if we didn’t have to worry about the time involved and whether A-Net will be releasing Guild Halls as a level 6 architecture upgrade that costs 50,000 influence when we can’t produce that again for quite literally months.

Is there any way that we could get more information, QUICKLY, before paid server transfers are implemented, about what will be coming down the pike for guilds? Is there any way — a guild token vendor, anything — that would allow us to move our guild with it’s infrastructure intact to another server? Is there anything at all that the community managers can do for us to help us deal with these concerns?
