Recruiting....how can I get it to work?

Aye.8392

As a player surreptitiously looking for a guild (on a different server than the OP), I want to expand on what Aye said, key words being “cookie cutter”. Not only are cookie-cutter replied bad, but your initial recruitment post shouldn’t read solely like a mash-up of the top twenty-five phrases used in guild recruitment. I’d like to know what makes your guild different and special (just as presumably a good guild wants to know what makes the recruitee different and special).

The OP’s recruitment post takes a step in that direction (noting the skills and interests of the guild’s founders). Then she drops another piece of interesting info in her post here, where recruits won’t see it! Telling us that you created the guild with your boyfriend because other guilds didn’t fit, then telling us why they didn’t fit will make you stand out more.

Anyway, that’s one important thing I am looking for in a recruitment post—that special something that can’t be summarized by a stock phrase.

Starry,

If you are still guild hunting, surreptitiously or otherwise, I invite you to check out my recruitment post. Hopefully you won’t find those 25 stock phrases you were mentioning, but you WILL find limericks. We would welcome you in AI, even as a part-timer.

Hi Chris,

My guild, Alchemy Incorporated is very welcoming to new players, and I don’t think anyone could ever accuse us of taking the game too seriously. We have screenshots we’ve taken while sitting in lava We aren’t on Eredon Terrace, but you’re welcome to join us, guest over to Sorrows Furnace and play with us for everything except WvW.

There’s a newbie PvP tutorial scheduled for this Saturday night, where one of our guys will help you set up your equipment, talk you through setting up a build, and then take you in and show you the ropes in sPvP. It’s a good fun time. We do dungeons, fractals, open world PvE, WvW — pretty much everything the game has to offer and we mostly do it in groups with other AI’ers.

Check out our recruitment post and guild forums and see what you think. If you find yourself interested give me a shout and I’ll send you an invitation.

Hi Pumpernickel,

How about a semi-large guild where everyone is friendly and open? I agree completely that the social aspect is the very best thing about MMOs. Alchemy Incorporated is a social guild on the Sorrows Furnace server. We do some of everything: dungeons, fractals, WvW, PvP and open world PvE; and, we have a good time doing it. Guild chat is rated “R” and we also have a mumble server available for those that want to use VoIP.

Check out our recruitment post and our guild forums and see if we might be a good choice.

Have fun!

We are willing to help others and would like to find a guild that realizes there is more to life than GW2.

Yes! There is also drunkenness, debauchery and pie! Well, and other stuff too, but mostly those four things.

Hello Juniper, if this is the type of thing you were meaning with that sentence then AI might be the place for you. We are a social guild on Sorrows Furnace — a group of players that enjoy hanging out together, playing the game, easy banter, and good times.

We have dungeon and fractal groups forming most nights, we go into WvW as a guild at least once a week, there are tutuorial events for tPvP for anyone new to the structured side of things, guild bounties a couple of times a week, and our very first Trek is scheduled for tomorrow night.

Check out our recruitment post and guild forums and if we seem like a fit just give a shout and I’ll send an invitation.

Recruiting....how can I get it to work?

in Guilds

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

I went and read your recruitment post and while it’s well written it wouldn’t really answer my questions if I were looking for a guild.

The biggest tip that I can offer is to know what you plan to offer in a guild. What do you do? Your recrutitment post mentions jumping puzzles and map clears in particular — are you an open world PvE guild? Some people will say they’re a PvE guild, some a WvW guild, some concentrate on dungeons or fractals… I personally bill AI as a social guild, and I say up front that the reason the guild exists is to have fun people to play with. — we are here for social contact and that’s our whole reason to exist.

What are your rules? Are you a family atmosphere with G or PG rated chat? Are you a mature guild and have an age limit? What is your most active times? Are you EST? PST? What region/server are you on? Do you allow multi-guilding? Be as specific as possible, and if you haven’t already answered these questions in your own mind, do so before you write your post.

If I were you I would also play up the fact that it is a beginning guild, that new members will be helping to form the core and culture of what the guild will become, and that they will be the driving force in growing the guild. The first 5 people that you get will be so important to you — let them know that you realize that right at the beginning. (AI formed 6 years ago in GW1 and I can still tell you who are first 5 members were. Our first member is still active and an integral part of our guild.)

Don’t ignore the posts from people that are looking for a guild. So many of the recruiters out there use a cookie cutter response — literally copying and pasting their spiel, without ever addressing the individual’s post at all. I go through the guild forum about twice a day and I am very critical when reading the posts. If it isn’t someone that I really feel would fit my guild I don’t respond. But if I do respond I do it personally. I speak to them, address the concerns in the post, talk about how I think my guild would fit what they are asking for — I mean, if you’re going to bill yourself as a friendly group then shouldn’t your first contact with a possible recruit be friendly and personal? Actually talk to them — then post a link to your spiel. I see probably 4 or 5 posts a week from people who are looking for small or beginning guild because they don’t want to be just another face. Take advantage of that — it’s a good fit for you.

Good luck to you. If you would like to use my guild to take advantage of bounties for your members let me know — I’m happy to help with that.

edit: I’m editing this because I forgot one huge thing that I did when I first started learning to recruit. I copied other recruiters that I liked. Myenchantedlife posted in your thread, seems to have a lot in common with you, runs a small guild and has been successful. Click her name, click the button to see all of her posts, see what she does and how she does it. I have a great deal of respect for a recruiter named Rising Dusk — when I see him respond to a post I try to learn from him as I’m reading.

I also check the posting history of the people who are looking for a guild. If they seem trollish, I pass.

I think you don’t understand how it works in dungeons. If you die in a dungeon the players can rez you, but you can’t waypoint as long as any party member is in combat. What you’re asking for is the opposite — you can waypoint, but you can’t be rezzed.

Why is there no 'Last online' feature?

Aye.8392

This is a pay to play game. It is very likely that people will wander away for a couple of months and still come back later to play. When they do come back they should be able to pick up where they dropped off — including inside their guilds.

You can have up to 500 member slots in your guild. I’d love to hear how many guild leaders are actually at capacity and needing to free up slots… I’m betting it is very few. But, if you are at capacity please suggest or argue for alliances so that you can expand by actually growing instead of asking for this feature that only allows players to be singled out for removal from the guild.

So you’re saying it shouldn’t be up to the guild master who belongs to their guild?

If you are a guild leader you have the option to admin lower ranks. Everyone in your guild is there at your pleasure, whether this tool exists or not, that is the fact of the matter. If there is someone who you don’t want to have in your guild then kick them. You sure don’t need this to give you that ability.

Guild Bounty boss question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

Sadly, it’s not just 15 minutes wasted, it’s 300 influence, and the queue time of 3 days that’s wasted as well.

Also, unless you get real lucky (or have a large group tracking him on the map), you won’t find him and defeat him in 15 minutes. If you have a larger group to help with tracking them BEFORE you spawn the event, oh wait…nevermind…that defeats the whole purpose of the training one, doesn’t it?

Plain and simple, none of the guild events should be done with less than 10 people, and I’d recommend a lot more than that if possible.

It’s really not as bad as this. If you know the path that your target will take, and you ask on the map for help finding the target and you ask in map for help killing it as soon as you engage it you just might be able to pull it off.

Who is easy to kill once found? Hmmm… Maybe Short Fuse, maybe Prisoner 1141.

Sottz post March 25 Update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

You have to activate him and then kite him until everyone shows up. It’s best to have a group of people ready to fight him the second he is found.

That would be great, I’d like that. But the real problem is that we did have a group ready to fight him as soon as he was found and yet by the time they arrived he was already gone. Yes, next time we will engage him as soon as he’s found, but this isn’t a good mechanic. I definitely understand A-Net wanting to discourage the pre-hunts, but we do have to get a group to him once we find him after the bounty is active.

Sottz post March 25 Update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

My guild just finished a tier 1 bounty which we failed because of Sottz. Not because we couldn’t find him — we had members find him three separate times while the bounty was active — but because he disappeared before the team could get to him.

Here’s what happened: Start bounty tier 1 with 3 parties active, Teesa and Sottz are the targets. All members who had not already gotten personal rewards earlier in the week moved to Frostgorge and started hunting Teesa. Everyone who already had gotten rewards, or who didn’t have Frostgorge on their maps went to Gendarran to search for Sottz (about 4 members). Within 2 minutes Teesah was found, and she was engaged at the three minute mark. At about 4 minutes in Sottz was found, a wp was pinged and the team that was in Gendarran started to move in to hold location until Teesa was dead and we could all join the Sottz battle. Very soon thereafter they called that he had disappeared and they were searching again. The main force continued the fight against Teesa. Sottz was again located, just a little ways from his first location, and the team again started moving in on him — before they could all get to the location he disappeared again. Teesa went down. A member called and said I’ve got Sottz, can I just activate it? Instead of saying yes, I said, “We’re done, ping the WP!” They pinged, but before we could get there he had disappeared yet again. We hunted, but never found him again while the bounty was active.

I understand that A-Net wanted to stop the pre-hunts. As a guild leader I’m actually very glad of that. The pre-hunts were both difficult to coordinate and time consuming. But, if there is a bounty active and going the target shouldn’t be able to respawn during that time. Any other time, yes, I’m for it.

Please rethink this “fix.” It’s over zealous.

Add more town clothes!

I’m sick of the dresses. Please give my female character the option of pants for town clothes! To add to the complaint is that the Pirate Captain’s outfit has great pants. I bought the outfit so that I could then use the designer sweatshirt and the riding boots and make a good looking outfit. But after I purchased the “4 piece Captain’s outfit” the top and pants were all apart of the same uniform — can’t wear the pants from one set and the separately offered sweatshirt from another.

In design they spoke about town clothes, NPC’s clothes, and that not every item for females had to be “sexy” or revealing. That we would have choices. But it doesn’t seem that way in reality. The female NPC’s wear jeans that look very much like the human male’s town clothes, but they are not available to human female player-characters.

Please make more options available.

Too much casual focus-not enough hardcore

in Suggestions

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

I get the impression that to most hardcore players, the very concept of “fun” is an irrelevance. It’s numbers, kills, gear, money, prestige. The game is simply a second job to them.

For people like me who sit somewhere in between casual and hardcore, GW2 suits me fine.

.. non casual gamers don’t complain about your map completions, jumping puzzles and whatever it is you guys do… yet casual gamers feel they should be on the same lvl as everyone else, why? If you can’t raid, you cant raid… so u can do dungeons.. it’s that simple.

From my standpoint the problem with “hardcore” players is that they drive discontent. After spending 12 hours a day in the game they’re on the forums complaining that there’s nothing to do and the game is boring and dying and already dead and there’s nothing to do and, “OMG I”m not gonna do a kittened jump puzzle give me raids!"

The problem is that most people can’t do raids. I want the devs to spend their precious resources on things that can be enjoyed by many different types of players/people. Not something that can ONLY be enjoyed by hardcore players, because then they spend their 12 hours a day chewing through the content, master it and start kittening that there’s nothing to do and, “OMG I’m not gonna do a kittened jump puzzle, give me more raids!”

Fractals were a great addition to the game because casuals can play at low levels and hard-core can push that envelope up-up-up and everyone is happy. I would have loved to see some new fractals coming into the mix in this update. Fractals, or ever increasing dungeon difficulties are a nice mix for casual-hardcore. This is the type of content that I’d like to see continue. It doesn’t eliminate casuals completely from the mix, but it gives the hardcore both a challenge and bragging rights. But there is still a problem with how quickly it is digested.

Off topic:

The problem with Fractals is that players have zero chance at the best rewards unless they push the levels really high meaning that casual players have no chance at the best rewards whatsoever. I can see that for the ascended items and the crafting materials for infusions, they’re only needed if you’re in the higher levels anyway. But, some of the Fractal Skins are fabulous. The problem is that they come in account bound — hardcore players can’t sell them on the TP even after they get duplicates of the same skin, making their play seem unrewarding and casuals can’t get them by any method. In my opinion both sets of players would be better served if the drops were able to be sold between players.

Besieged is besieged WvW

Aye.8392

Adding realism doesn’t really add fun. Standing around in a tower or keep isn’t much fun. As a matter of fact, it’s very boring. That’s why more people don’t do it already. Making it so that players are forced to stay in the keep or tower detracts from the fun of the game.

It’s already not a simple task to get through a zerg and into a tower or keep for defense, but if it were impossible fewer defenders would go to a call for help. At least as the game is set now when someone calls for help there is a chance for response.

TBH if you have a comparable sized group approaching a besieged tower or keep it’s far more effective to fight on the ground than to go into the structure anyway.

Even if it’s added as a tick-box toggle similar to the ‘Achievements’ option, at least add this information for us please.

As long as only people who have permissions can see the information I’m good with a toggle, or tick box. But I sincerely hope they never add this information without the guild leader having the option to turn it on or off, or to decide who can or can’t see it. It’s simply a font of unneeded drama.

I appreciate your wisdom, but surely you’d be okay with sharing a fish with a hungry student while the teaching was underway?

Guild bounties - bounty hunt time

I’ve read every post in that thread, yes. Please stop trying to fling it towards my face. I share some of the concerns, but I don’t agree with everything every player says (EDIT: and neither does the feedback or the metrics that help us make these determinations).

I would like you how important it is to me to see that you are actively interacting with the player base. Knowing that someone is in there representing guilds is everything.

Robert Hrouda, says that he plays PUG dungeons anonymously for the sake of learning what the players go through while pugging dungeons. Do you run a guild anonymously? Do you have the insights that come from recruiting, creating events, stomping drama, dealing with people who love the game but are frustrated by some of the updates? If you don’t do this already please do consider it.

I would love to believe that there is a guild leader in the Wintersday content meetings next time around arguing for group play instead of random arenas. Tixx could have been a real boon for guilds and instead it was the opposite.

Thank you for your time and efforts on behalf of our guilds. I for one very much appreciate them and appreciate you for talking to us.

laures and guild missions = cancer of guild wars 2

Nah, more like a bad cold. As soon as the worst of it is over you never think of it again. Once you have the ascended items you want Laurels rewards become fun extras. Once you have the guild mission types unlocked the missions themselves are good fun. It’s just putting in the time to get there that’s miserable.

But, if you’re calling Guild Mission content deadly to GW2 then you’re just plain wrong. This is great content. If you’re in a small guild team up with other small guilds. It’ll kittenay, and it just might make you realize how fabulous multi-guilding really is, both for guilds and for players.

Your top 5 priorities for Guilds

1. Alliances
2. Editable Message of the Day
3. Display Message of the Day to each member on sign in for each guild regardless of representation
4. Display when guild member signs in or out
5. Split invite/kick permissions instead of having simply admin lower ranks.

Guild halls would be very lovely, but they are gravy, and not what is most needed for guilds.

Agreed, as a 250+ member guild we really would like to see who hasn’t been on in months. =/

Why? What would you do with the information once you had it?

At 250 members you could double in size before you have to worry about not having a slot to put a new member into the guild. So, what other reasons could you have for NEEDING to see when a member hasn’t been active for a month or two?

A wave based dungeon

For starters I am well aware of Fractals and the way they already provide atleast some degree of high end PvE aspect of the game, but I feel like once you’ve done them as much as you can and start hitting that point where you either need to get more resistance to allow that one mistake before dying or take it to the extreme with the level 50+ runs where even resistance won’t save you from certain death, you will fade into a state where you just do them once a day for the daily reward of relics.

I myself was a fan of the challenge missions in GW1 where you were to clean an area of enemies or last as long as possible and if you did well enough you’d be rewarded with the glory of getting your name in the scoreboard. I would love to see such dungeons added to GW2 aswell and we already have a perfect setting.

My suggestion would be to add an area to the exploded Chaos reactor where you would be protecting a crew that is attempting to clean/salvage as much as possible before you are over ran by the creatures thrown at you by the broken existance around you. This would allow a huge difference in the waves you would face, spreading as far from raging skritts trying to get some shinies to hulking iron golems from whatever strange realm they came from. These waves would increase in size/power and because of this eventually any party as good as they might be would be defeated.

I believe such a dungeon would be rewarding in its own worth and the material rewards would not even have to be that huge. Is it going there with a group of friends wanting to see how far you can get while having fun or is it gathering the best of the best from your guild to aim for the stars and the score board. Hit that up with a progressive chest that gives increased loot every 5 waves and add a boss every 10 waves and atleast I would be sold.

Welcoming all critique and suggestions
Thank you for reading

I would very much enjoy this. The problem is that it would have to be instanced or people would be able to continually join in or even rez and run back the way it happens now for dragons. There is some similarities between what you’re asking for and the new guild challenges, although the challenges can be won instead of including infinite scalablity.

Anyway, it sounds like great fun, I’m just not sure how practical it is in this game format.

Mega Boss loot changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

As a casual player this change is very good for me. My play time will not be dominated by bosses and my rares/ecto will be worth more.

It will definitely cut into the pocketbook for farmers, which is bad for them but also good for me, since they will now be more likely to farm T6 mats and help keep those in a more affordable place.

Overall a good change for the majority of players.

Alchemy Inc [AI] on Sorrows Furnace NA

We are again looking for fun players to join our ranks.

[AI] turns six years old next week, which means we finally get to have actual FIRE on our birthday cake candles.

We like fire.

We also like booze, it makes us tingle

So yes, check us out here: http://www.alchemyincorporated.net where you will be sure to find that we are a swell bunch of characters.

Sometimes they even set the booze on fire. It’s an odd lot.

Our tier 2 bounty went off without a hitch and we had quite a lot of time to spare, although I did hear a couple comments from people who wanted to recruit Sottz instead of killing him.

People would absolutely use TP as storage if it were possible to pick and choose what to pick up. Power traders wouldn’t even have to worry about where to hold things waiting for price spikes.

No thank you.

New to GW2

Hi Myst,

If you are interested in switching servers I have a great guild over on Sorrows Furnace that is very friendly, good at answering questions, and very laid back. We play regular open world PvE, play some PvP tournaments, dungeons, fractals — pretty much everything in the game and we have a great time doing it.

We have Mumble for a VoIP server, but to be honest we mostly use guild chat unless we’re in a dungeon or event.

If you’re interested you can check out our recruitment post and give a shout in game if you’re interested in an invitation.

Have fun!

Hey Memoman,

It looks like Rising Dusk has already pointed you toward AI. We are a social guild on Sorrows Furnace and we do a bit of everything. Goofy tPvP on Friday nights (along with more serious, play to win tournaments on Wednesday nights), dungeons and fractals form up pretty much every night, and we WvW at least once a week. Guild missions are happening frequently, too. But mostly we’re about having a good laugh or two while playing the game.

Check out our recruitment thread and give a shout in game if you want to give us a try.

ps: That poster up above me from WIN is one of our allies. They’re a good bunch and I’ve had fun playing with them. As a matter of fact I believe they’re planning a guild bounty for 10:00 CDT tonight and they’ve invited the members from AI to go along with them — you should jump in and give it a go, too!

There are times when at 10:00am the history will show 21 members logged in — when I know I had 45 members logged in the night before and can count 23 logged in right that exact minute. So, it makes no sense.

guild vendors i can't access

in Players Helping Players

Aye.8392

I think this might be the case my guild is on another server
Really hope they fix this problem its really frustrating not to be able to use any of the guild services

EDIT: transfering servers now to see if it works just hope i dont waste my money

A guild may have members on different servers but each server is responsible for generating its own influence pool and buying upgrades. So, for example, if your home server is Tarnished Coast but the rest of your guild is based on Blackgate – if you haven’t specifically upgraded the TC guild to have weapon and armorsmith vendors but Blackgate have you will not be able to access them.

This isn’t a bug, it is working as intended.

It’s working as it’s always worked which is a far cry from “as intended” — at least I hope so. Surely to God no developer would ever intend to have a guild branch. I’m still hoping that at some point they’ll fix this for all of the other amenities the way they’ve fixed it for guild bounties.
