Isn’t the fun of the game in, you know, playing it?
Given that everything gives XP, making it to level 80 is an inevitable consequence of playing, which hardly makes it an achievement.
And finally, Guild Wars 2 does not have any super-magical-fun content that can only be experienced by max-level/max-gear characters. The level 1-80 content is actually the core of the game.
So congratulations on skipping the entire game.
The fun is in playing the game, as you said. And Guild Wars 2 does not have any super-magical content that prevents a level 80, fully geared character from enjoying all of the areas in the game. Once you get your character leveled and a build, complete with traits, that suits your playstyle, you can go play. And, you can get level appropriate drops from any area you play in.
Playing is far more fun than getting ready to play.
I wish they had remembered that part from GW1. No levels at all would have been even better.
Sorrows Furnace
Rising Dusk speaks truly. Keep in mind that you can join Fractals and dungeons across servers and guest over for other content. The only thing you can’t do from a different server is join in WvW.
Don’t get me wrong, there are definite advantages to being on the same server as your guild, so if you’re not wanting to move because you have family on Maguuma or something along those lines then it makes perfect sense to hold out for a guild that you love on Maguuma. But, if you don’t have anything tying you there then consider joining a guild on a different world. Try it out, decide if it’s a good fit for you and, if so, then you can talk to your guild leader about the switch. You’d be surprised how many of us are willing to help with gems for people that are a good fit for the guild.
And with that said let me introduce AI — we’re a social guild on Sorrows Furnace existing solely for the sake of having cool people to play the game with and we’ve got some.
You can check out our recruitment thread and our guild forums and see if you think we’d be a good spot to call home, or even to just visit from time to time. No commitment required.
Sorrows Furnace
Hey Fizz,
My guild, Alchemy Incorporated, is a social guild on Sorrows Furnace and it’s really just about having cool people to play with. We have lots of different events and outtings and participate in every aspect of the game. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing having cool people to do it with makes it better
Check out our recruitment thread and our guild forums and let me know if it seems like we might be a good fit for you.
Have fun!
Sorrows Furnace
You can usually tell who has used the bank by looking at the guild panel > History > Roster and seeing who left the guild about that time.
Sorrows Furnace
What would prevent someone buying a promotion and kicking all of their subordinates? More than one guild (in other games, at least) has been devastated by some obnoxious jerk booting all the members and leaving.
Influence is not guild rank, it’s a currency that accrues to the guild that the guild leader and their appointees can use to open research trees, bonuses, missions, etc. You can’t buy a guild rank with influence.
Sorrows Furnace
The Roman Numerals representing trait skills are attractive, but not very functional. Without build templates we are required to rely on memory for what skills go in which major trait slots for each line. When switching between open world PvE, WvW and Fractals and switching my traits accordingly I find myself struggling. Did I want trait IV for slot 2 of the Illusion line, or the Domination line…
A visual representation for the traits would be very helpful.
Build Templates would be even better.

I wonder how long it will take before a moderator hits the urban dictionary for snoo snoo?

Found this article by accident. Funny enough it seems to echo the concern of this thread.

So…do you think GW2 has become too complicated? – Carol Pinchefsky, Forbes Contributor
And, oh my Lord, Izzy says that time-gating content and rewards is good and working as intended. What the heck…
Are the needs of the players and the needs of the developers that far out of synch? If so it’s going to be a huge hole for A-Net to dig out of.
Sorrows Furnace
When they announced karma as the game was being developed, it sounded like an amazing step forward. Truly next gen MMO thinking.
Whatever you do in the world, whatever quest, you get this currency called karma and it piles up as you play. Use it now for something at level, or save it down the road for a rainy day. But no matter which direction I went, or what quest types I picked, I would get this same currency that at the end, had the same value as what someone else got by doing something totally different than me, that they liked instead.
Now its practically worthless.
When the game launched think of all the ways you could get Best in Slot gear, playing the way you chose.
- Via Drops
- Via Crafting (now ruined thanks to Ascended)
- Via Dungeon Tokens
- Via Trade Post
- Via WvW Badges
- Via Karma Vendors (that could not be bought with real money via gems)Play the way you want! And still gear up!
Why didn’t they stick with this? They traded in this awesome system that did everything they initially claimed as their philosophy, for a grindy, and in many parts ‘not fun’ treadmill, that makes you jump through hoops and frequently do things you don’t prefer in the game, just to progress along with everyone else.
Even if they did feel it necessary for a new tier of gear, there was no reason it could not have followed the same currencies, just taking many more of those currencies to set up the proper timetable they wanted. And still allowed the player to play the game the way they liked and not fall behind or miss out, for not liking this or that specific game mode.
This, this, a thousand times this! The many currencies are a problem. They don’t free me to play the way I’d like, instead making me feel that I NEED to do something in order to get a specific currency. Before Laurels I often skipped the daily, now I feel like I’m losing something if I don’t complete those silly little tasks everyday. They aren’t difficult, no, but they do require my time and time is the currency that is in the very shortest supply.
The guild commendations — I don’t want my members to play guild missions because they NEED commendations. I want them to play because joining in with a guild event is fun! There is no way I can hit everyone’s schedule with one event, but everyone NEEDS commendations so I’m into organizing 3 or 4 guild bounties a week. It’s difficult, and not needed. Turn the commendations and laurels to karma and let the rares+silver+shot at a precursor be the reward for guild missions.
Sorrows Furnace
The problem of course is that they’re still re-learning all of the things that they had to learn in GW1. Every chapter in GW1 made the mechanics better and better (I’m not talking balance — Nightfall finished any semblance of balance) — better for rez shrines, better for both friendly and mob AI, better for quality of life issues like build templates, reconnect, guild alliances, and better as far as story and quest lines.
The sad part is that they didn’t remember the lessons learned from GW1 when starting GW2. Things like paying for signet changes were removed in GW1 but added in the form of trait respec in GW2. No build templates, no alliances, no LFG tool…
They’ll get it, I think. Just like they got it in the first one. But having to go through the whole process yet again is a pain in the neck.
I guess the answer for me is that I still believe. I’m still shocked and bewildered and left feeling betrayed when they do things like enabling guesting without being able to play across regions, but the fact that it’s possible for me to feel betrayed screams that I still have some measure of faith in this company.

I don’t know if anyone else has this problem, but I can’t decide what race to play with which professions.
Example, I want to try both a Guardian and a Mesmer. I want to also play a Human and an Asura. Problem is, I can’t settle on whether I want the Human to be Guardian or Mesmer, and vice versa with the Asura. I think it stems from the fear of getting bored with one or the other, although there could be any number of reasons, from roleplaying issues to OCD and ADD lol.
Anyone else have this problem?
Look at the utility skills and the way the racial skills compliment them. You will find very little (no) direct damage utility with a mesmer. Perhaps having the Radiation Field and Pain Inverter of the Asura will make a more effective character in this regard. Look at the racial skills of the Human and compare it to what the guardian is and what it does. Perhaps the racial skills of the human would be a nice compliment to the guardian’s skill set.
Sorrows Furnace
Yes, there should definitely be at least a confirmation box. I’d prefer to see it that a member can only be kicked from the guild pane.
Sorrows Furnace
I would absolutely love to see alliances in any form make a come-back to Guild Wars.
Sorrows Furnace
I’m curious, do you just dislike Mumble or do you prefer to have no voice server at all and only use guild chat?
Sorrows Furnace
imo what you describe is not a guild.my definition of guild is a group of ppl ,that like playing together, chatting, exploring under the same banner that destinctions them from others.Represent button was the biggest mistake anet made with gw2.guilds now dont have personalities .they are a sum of ppl just getting together for the buffs and rewards ,that big guilds provide.
Really? I defy anyone in this game to come into my guild and spend just an hour and say that we don’t have personality, care about each other, enjoy playing together, know each other. We do. Your definition of guild is very shallow. I have never had one person in my guild say they are going to go play somewhere else for the sake of the buffs another guild provides. That isn’t what matters to most people. People matter, and there can be more than one group that a player enjoys.
Different people have different groups/circles/networks and AI is one part of that. No one group that I enjoy playing with has to be shunned because I enjoy a second group as well. No guildie has to be done away with because they also like playing with a different group or doing different things. This isn’t a marriage — it’s a game. Play where you want, when you want with who you want. Including a second (or fifth) guild.
Sorrows Furnace
Jeeeez, I skip the forums for just a couple of days and I miss a perfect guildie!
Morbyd, in the unlikely event that you haven’t already found a great guild, please allow me to introduce Alchemy Incorporated: We are all of those things that you say you want, humorous (well, at least we like pointing and laughing at Sir Cusfreak), casual, laidback… Really, we are like the Jimmy Buffet of guilds. Plus, we do stuff in the game like dungeons and fractals and missions and WvW. It’s a fun guild. You should check us out.
Sorrows Furnace
We had a great time playing with you guys last night Thanks for the invitations and including us. If you need to fill up slots in a dungeon or fractal pop over and give a shout.
Sorrows Furnace
Hey, thanks Ryazz! It’s fun having other guilds to run with. In two days I’ve done 3 successful guild missions: AI’s (of course), one with RoMS and one with WIN. It’s been good fun for all of us
Multi-guilding is great. For missions the advantage for individual players is that you have a variety of days/times to choose from, so if one guild can’t meet your schedule you can pop over and play with another. The advantage for guilds is that if you don’t have enough people to complete a mission on your own you have built in help. Most guild leaders don’t take nearly as much advantage of multi-guilding as they should.
Sorrows Furnace

Hi Dazers,
That’s a very nice resume. My guild is a social guild on Sorrows Furnace — we exist for the sole purpose of having fun people to play with. You describing yourself as hardcore casual makes perfect sense to me. AI is probably a little more casual hardcore. We do dungeons, fractals, guild missions, and WvW but if things should happen to go badly we just regroup and try again. We even play tournament sPvP for fun.
And I have to tell you the Sorrows Furnace server takes casual-hardcore to the extreme! We are in the bottom tier of WvW — the dregs of the worlds. But (here is where that hardcore part comes in) we have been winning so decisively in the bottom tier that our server has the very best WvW bonuses of any in the game. Ha!
If you like to laugh while you play, if having a good time while acquiring your Teddy Bear Tokens is important to you, if you can handle salty language and off-color jokes without being derogatory, then we just might be the guild for you. Check us out
Here is our recruitment thread.
And our guild forums Alchemy Incorporated.
Have fun!
Sorrows Furnace
That has to be the funniest looking for guild post I have ever read. Thank you for my day’s entertainment. And please, stay absolutely AWAY from AI. You have to be a guild leader’s worst nightmare. Funny though, and much enjoyed
Sorrows Furnace
I keep playing because even with all of its problems Guild Wars 2 is still the best MMO on the market.
Sorrows Furnace
No. That’s the only honest answer. No, you won’t be able to. There are guilds that will allow you to represent them just for the sake of the guild missions so that you can get the rewards.
Sorrows Furnace
I am the leader of a guild with 175 members. The members of my guild are welcome to multi-guild, I am happy to have members of my old Guild Wars 1 alliance on my roster, I have formed a cooperative relationship with another smaller guild so that their members can represent AI for the sake of guild bounties and then represent their home guild for regular play.
My guild allows the individual player the freedom to represent the guild they wish, when they wish. We are open and welcoming to players who can only spend a short amount of time on weekends or in the evenings, and maybe only play once or twice a month as their time permits. They don’t have to worry about being kicked out of the guild because they haven’t signed in recently. Do you really believe that my guild members should be penalized in the amount of influence they earn because of the number of members on the roster?
I completely understand your frustration with the costs of the bounties, buffs, bonuses, etc. and I understand that the way the Guild Missions have been implemented is very hard on small guilds. I hate it for you and for every small guild in the game. But, let’s work at getting A-Net to make the influence and missions more accessible to small guilds, instead of making them less accessible to guilds who have an open door policy.
Sorrows Furnace
I can see the points here, but this would very much interfere with knowledgeable people who play combo fields to great advantage. You have to know the field is there before you hit with a finisher, and if you can’t see it that presents a problem.
Sorrows Furnace
Okay, I admit it… I want you in AI. You sound perfect for my guild. Try us out, see what you think. The only problem that I see at all is that you used no elipses in your post…
Check us out — you’ll have fun.
Sorrows Furnace
We’re going for another Tier 2 Bounty on Sunday 3/10. We’ll start tracking down some of the hard to find targets at 2:30 CDT and plan to kick the mission off a little after 3:00 CDT.
Troll Face Friday is cancelled this week because Thirsty is a traitor and is playing the Neverwinter Nights Beta.
Sorrows Furnace
You only get 2 commendations per guild mission per week except Guild Trek mission as that mission doesn’t award commendations. Guild Mission rewards resets the same time as WvW scores.
I can’t say what is right, but I can say this is wrong. I ran my first bounty on Saturday at 3:00 CST — tier 2. I received personal rewards including 2 guild commendations. I ran my second bounty on Wednesday at 8:30 CST — tier 1. I received personal rewards including 2 guild commendations. I have read that the reset time is server reset on Saturday and I tend to believe that is the case, but it is definitely not Friday at WvW reset.
Another question that I have that isn’t answered here: Can you get rewards a second time if you do a bounty while representing another guild?
Sorrows Furnace
All you need to know is that they spawn in the general area around invasion dynamic events. Those are easy to find, so just look around the area for sparkles.
I found the one in diessa no problem by just checking for sparkles around a portal event I just cleared, and the same for the mug not too long earlier. They’re not directly ON the event, you have to look around a little. If I was just clearing the event and not looking for either of them I would definitely have missed them.
What I liked about the one in diessa was that there were a lot of random planks in the woods with sparkles trolling me. Then there was the object in those same woods which was a nice surprise.
This is helpful – thanks! I’ve been to a few of these events and I did look around, but didn’t find anything. I’ll keep at it. I wish the game would imply this somehow – from game information only it could be anywhere in the zone.
You probably already know this, but just in case…
Hold down the alt-key while you’re searching and you’ll be able to see green lettering that you can’t normally see unless the item is targeted. That helps me in finding items.
Sorrows Furnace
It is silly. The devs agree, too. But the way they are coded is keeping them from changing it. There is a way to hand it off if you have a friend to help you and the devs have said it is okay and not an exploit:
Equip the siege > instead of choosing 1 to deploy it or 2 to put it away use the drop bundle key (weapon swap) > have buddy pick it up > Go get the character you want to have the siege. > have buddy equip and drop bundle > pick up the box. The siege is now soulbound to your other character.
Sorrows Furnace
Today my friends and me we did our first guild mission: the bounty.
We organized very well and complete the event killing all the wanted mobs.
Too bad my friends are on Aurora Glade whilst I am on Gandara, and i didn’t get any reward from this event.I am now forced to search for another guild on Gandara since i cannot afford for pay 1800 gems to change server and i’m not gonna waste any precious laurel on the earrings.
This guild system that u earn influence and u get reward from guild mission only if you are on the same server of the guild just don’t works and devide people.
I’m disappointed.
Thanks.
They have said that this is NOT intended behavior for the missions and they will work to get it fixed.

So, hang in there.
Sorrows Furnace
The launch had some troubles. Parties were split and coudn’t play together — when zoning into an area the players would be put into different overflow servers regardless of being teamed up. There were quite a lot of guild bugs, including not being able to use guild chat. The trading post didn’t work at all for several days, then they rotated allowing different people to use it at different times — if you weren’t on during those times it was just too bad for you. Skill points were a rather big issue for quite a while after launch, and some zones like Timberline Falls were completely broken…
Still, in MMO terms it was a very smooth launch. Because of overflow servers there were no queues, so even if some of the play was frustrating the players could at least play.

“Um, sir. We know you’re the super-boss and all that, but you came from a different order, so you need to go find a different portal.” /trollface
Your pardon sir, but I am not Vigil commander I am PACT commander. Have you confused the two? Do you mean to suggest that any one of these orders does not fall under my chain of command?
Sorrows Furnace
how many ectos do you normaly get from an exotic
from 0 to 5 max, and no you do not need a black lion kit to maximize ectos because ectos have their own drop rate, you only guarantee rune recovery with the BL kit and a better chance of max tier crafting mats like Orichalcum ore and gossamer scraps, ect.
I have salvaged literally hundreds of exotics without ever getting more than three ecto. I really believe this is either a fallacy or a chance about like having a precursor drop. It just doesn’t happen.
Sorrows Furnace
You receive the commendations for bounty as soon as the first one that you are involved in killing dies. It’s like other champs — if you don’t get your hits in it doesn’t count you as participating.

There are a ton of PvE maps — if you want to PvE why not go to one of those? How would “neutral” players help WvW at all? To be honest, I’d like to see them remove the jumping puzzles and world completion aspects from WvW, just so there aren’t PvE’ers coming in and distracting from the battle.
Sorrows Furnace
I choose not to participate in Ambient Killer when it’s part of the daily, and I don’t try to dictate how the people I party with play. But there is nothing else (map chat aside) that can make me want to log out and read a book more than being with someone who is killing every small creature they come across. I don’t think it’s going to make people begin to torture puppies or anything like that. But, I hate it and wish it weren’t in the game.
I could go with the ever popular Immersion Breaking argument, after all how many people really go out of their way to kill every small creature they come across? How many “heroes” would do so? But the truth is seeing people fulfill that daily option makes me want to log out of the game, and I don’t feel that way about any other daily option. I know I’m not a special snowflake, so if I feel this way there are others that feel this way, too.

Hello Acarius
I hear you on the voice communication. I hate it. I have it, and use it on occasion when we’re doing an event or a tough dungeon, but mostly I just hate it.
AI is a social guild — we exist pretty much entirely to have fun people to play with, we do have Mumble available for anyone who wants to use it, but mostly people don’t just hang out in Mumble. Our guild chat is lively, people do type, people do read what others type. We run fractals, dungeons, goof around with sPvP on Friday and play more seriously on Wednesday, WvW as a guild about once a week, and we have begun to run guild bounties. We have just over 150 players, but since we’re very open about people representing other guilds there’s probably anywhere from 25-40 on at primetime on any given night.

Hey Buche,
Alechemy Incorporated is a mature guild with most of our members over 30 years old. We play together quite a lot in dungeons, fractals, WvW, even teaming up for things like map clears and World Bosses. We have Mumble, but mostly only use it for dungeons and events. But, our guild chat is lively If you’d like to check us out let me know!

I’ve been off the recruiting trail for over three months and I’ve been debating whether or not to begin recruiting again for the past couple of weeks.
On one hand we have really great people in our guild right now; enough to do dungeons, fractals and be effective on our WvW outtings. But, I keep seeing people on the forums who are very sad about not being able to enjoy the new guild content because they belong to a small guild, and that just isn’t right.
If you’d like to join us and participate in the guild bounties just keep an eye on our website at www.alchemyincorporated.net for dates and times. Guild leaders you are also welcome to contact me about participating along with us — keep your guild, keep building your influence for the time that you can create your own missions, and play with us until it’s done. No requirements.
Or, if you’re looking for a full guild experience and AI sounds like a place you’d enjoy calling home you’re certainly more than welcome to give us a try!
I look forward to meeting new friends

With gems being literally worth more than the American dollar, people are spending a lot of real world cash on gems to then convert them into in game gold or spending them in the gem store for upgrades.

Caledon forest there is a village with a cave inside full of veteran hyleks. It is the cave with tears of I… achievement.
This. Near the back of the Dengatl Grounds point of interest there is a closed gate. Pick up a boulder and throw it at the gong, the gong will sound and the gate will open. The area behind the gate has probably 10 – 15 veteran Hylek inside. They do respawn.
Sorrows Furnace
Yes you get another… Its shame.
Are you completely sure about this? The missions reset at GMT 0:00 each Saturday so if you did the mission with guild 1 on Saturday afternoon, and guild 2 on Sunday afternoon both instances would have returned rewards without it necessarily being true that you get rewards from different guilds.
Rozbuska, can you definitely say this is the case? I’d love to know for sure.
