Home Server = WvW Server?

You just set it up opposite, you home for WvW and guest to play with your guild. Of course the problem with that is then you never generate influence for your guild. With the way they’ve set it up you only create influence for your home server, not for the guesting server.

In my opinion: multi-guild system is a problem (social issues)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aye.8392

I’m a guild leader and I love the multi-guild system. I actively encourage my members to go play with other guilds, to the extreme that I’ve gone out and found a guild that focuses on sPvP and put links to them in our forums and I add their events to our MotD. I sometimes rep other guilds myself just so members completely understand that it’s okay to go and play in other places sometimes. I have 138 members, all of the upgrades are completed, we run constant, 24 hour MF and Gathering bonuses and we have over 100k influence to play with. I can’t say that it ever hurts us, and I think encouraging multi-guilding actually helps us. The more players I can keep enjoying the game and logging in on a daily basis the better off my guild, my server and the game in it’s entirety is.

OP, if you know you want to rep multiple guilds you really shouldn’t join on that requires 100% rep. Most will tell you up front if they do. Find a guild that is happy to welcome you when you do rep without worrying about where you are the rest of the time. Everyone will be happier.

An utopia idea would be if all players from one region / data center will transfer to the other region / data center so they all will benefit from the guesting free with no more needed transfer fees.

I love it! Let’s do that!

Aye.8392

You have no idea how much a server transfer is going to cost. It might be $30. It might be $1.

If there were better ways they would be doing it that way. Yet another person who insists upon calling the devs lazy liars. You were told why it can’t work the way you want it. Told in very clear, easy-to-understand terms. So transparent in fact, birds are flying into it as we speak. But because it’s not the answer you want, it’s not good enough. Well tough nookies. It is what it is, and you’re going to have accept it and work within it the best you can.

No, you’re wrong. We were told why they’re choosing not to do it the way we’d prefer them to. There’s a difference, and it’s quite a big one. Creating ways for us to play with our friends is not an impossibility. I don’t care how they do it, but I do care that they make sure we can do it.

Or, in simpler terms:

Nerfs to classes, implentation of more tiers of gear or broken events will not make me quit a game – any game.

Not being able to play with my friends, however? Well, let’s just say that’d decrease the longevity of any game right quick, right there.

No, you’ve been told why it’s not possible. Characters cannot inhabit both datacenters at the same time. I think that’s pretty kitten clear. You say “they choose not to” as if you believe they are purposely placing a limitation just to annoy you. And why would they do that?

And while it’s clear you want it done no matter what the cost and exclusion of other features and content, I’m sorry, but that’s simply not going to happen, especially for a free feature.

If that makes you no longer want to play the game, well that’s your choice.

Yeah, yeah… We’ve been told that it’s impossible and why it’s impossible and that we have to live with it and that it’s the best that can happen. But wait, isn’t that what they’ve said about culling issues, too? Culling has to happen, there’s no way around it, otherwise there’s too much latency and it will ruin the game for everyone. But, guess what? They’re changing the culling issue. There was enough of an outcry, there were enough people saying that it matters, there were enough people leaving the game that they decided to put in what it takes to fix the issue for those very vocal people.

Now they need to take all of their reasons why it won’t work, can’t work, and will never be changed and find the solution. Because without that solution this game is not worth playing. We’ve been patiently waiting since beta. They need to either delay releasing guesting at all or release it with the promise that fixing it, and fixing it right, is on the board, and not just whining about why it can’t be done. They’ve screwed up and implemented very bad game design somewhere along the way. First with culling, now with guesting. Both need to be fixed and not forgotten.

Hi Metalhead,

Congratulations on the new baby! AI is recruiting on Sorrows Furnace. We’re a social guild so it’s more about the people than anything else, but we form dungeon groups almost every night; we run fractals too, with quite a few of us still being under fractal level 10 and I think the highest is fractal level 23. For the past week or so there’s been either an HotW speed clear or a CoF speed clear team form every night and I think they’ve got that down to about 20 minutes per run.

We have one thing that we do that we call Occupy Tyria where we all zerg across a specific zone and kill everything that dares stand in our way. It’s great fun If you want to try that out we’re going this Monday night to Occupy Southsun Cove. Come hang out and see what you think!

How to find the right guild for you.

in Players Helping Players

Aye.8392

How to find a guild for a specific thing you want to do in the game:

To be honest the very best way for a goal oriented person to find a guild is to look around in game while playing; when you see a team of players with the same guild tag doing the thing that you want to do ask them about their guild. If there is a specific dungeon that you want to focus on stand at that dungeon door for a bit and see which teams show up with 5 players all wearing the same tag – those people formed their dungeon team in guild chat. If fractals are what you’re interested in stand at the fractal gate and see who goes in – if a guild is out in the world, playing together, teaming up and doing what you want to do then it could very well be a good guild choice for you. Whisper, ask for guild names, talk to the leader, check out the website, or even just ask for an invitation and rep them for a few days and see what you think.

How to find a great guild by using the forums:

Whether you’re checking the recruitment posts or making a thread of your own some things always need to be addressed: Does the bulk of the guild play at the times that you play? Are they on a server that is acceptable to you? Do they use your preferred means of communication — not just have it, but actually USE it? In my guild we have Mumble that we use for dungeons, WvW and event outings, but other than that it sits empty and we communicate in guild chat. If you hate to type my guild would suck for you. Conversely, if you hate to wear a headset and are in a guild that primarily uses voice comms you won’t get the chances to team up or even just enjoy the social aspects of the guild. Communication is important; find a group that does it the way you like.

If you create your own post looking for a guild pay attention to the responses that you get – are the recruiters speaking to you directly? Do they use your name and address the concerns that you list in your post? If it is a generic cut and paste recruitment do they at least talk about the things that are important to you? I personally tend to suspect a guild that says it is a social guild, or people focused, and that you’ll be more than just a name on a roster, if the recruiter uses a cut and paste format. If a guild recruiter can’t speak to you while they’re actively courting you to join the guild then don’t be surprised if they don’t spend a lot of time talking to you after you’ve joined. Conversely, I don’t find it suspect if a guild says they’re looking to build numbers and dominate in WvW if they use a cut and paste format.

Whether you have written your own LFG post or you are thinking of responding to one of the guilds that have started a thread looking for more members take a minute and click on the leader/recruiter’s name and read a few of their posts. Do the things that they write mostly match up with the way you think? If not, are they at least said in a way that would foster communication? If they say in the recruitment post that they are friendly and helpful are the posts on the rest of the forums friendly and helpful? If you’re looking for a guild that focuses on tournament sPvP and yet the guild leader has only made posts about jumping puzzles you’ll probably end up being underwhelmed by the guild.

Hopefully this thread will garner more tips on finding the perfect guild.

You do have to be in the same overflow, but that’s pretty easy to do. Build your party, go into Lions Arch, right click on the leader’s portrait and choose “Join in LA.” At that point, even if you have different home servers, you’ll be in the same overflow and able to enter Fractals together.

Best to find an active dungeon running guild. It’s hard to tell which server has the most pve and which has the most pvp.

Thanks for the suggestion and yet this may not be the answer i’m seeking for. as u see, now anet has an upcoming system called “guesting” and it will charge me for transferring from world to world. Therefore, i should make this quick and this is definitely not a right moment to find an active guild first before moving to the right server.

This is the correct answer though. Find a guild that you enjoy playing with, that plays at the times when you play, and switch to whatever server they are on.

What? How does that make a crest useless? You’re increasing 3 stats a total of 288 pts instead of 2 stats for 215 pts. Personally I prefer having an extra 73 attribute points affecting every weapon skill, utility and auto attack to health regeneration. But you’re right about one thing: the crests are very inexpensive when compared to superior runes of the dolyak.

It’s hard to find a guild that truly does everything. From what I’ve seen you have choices of hardcore sPvP, dungeons and fractals, and WvW guilds. I have yet to see a guild that focuses on DEs or map clears. People might team up and do some once in awhile, but that’s about it. My guild, Alchemy Incorporated, is mostly dungeons and fractals. We do team up for some map clears and jumping puzzles, but it’s not a regular occurance. We WvW about twice a week, and we have an allied guild, Spill The Blood, that is completely sPvP — they form teams for tournies pretty much every night and play paid tournies on Wednesday nights. I actively encourage multi-guilding because I know that most guilds don’t offer everything that’s in the game.

Currently our roster is around 140 players, and we have anywhere from 25 – 50 people on concurrently during North American prime-time. We have Mumble for WvW, dungeons and other outtings, but social communication is mostly in guild chat.

Guesting is Coming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

Let me explain to you why you cannot guest on worlds in another region.

There are two databases: European player data is stored in our European datacenter, American player data is stored in our American datacenter. This is to ensure that people in these regions can still properly play in case there is an issue with the connection between the datacenters.

When you do a world transfer from the US to the EU (and vice versa) your player data is transferred from one datacenter to the other. This is not the case with guesting, as you are still “registered” on your home world.

I understand that some of you are disappointed that you cannot guest on worlds in another region, but considering the complexity of internet routing, our main priority is to ensure that players have as much of an uninterrupted game experience as possible, which is the reason why we have two datacenters.

On another note: I will try to get an answer to the guild influence question that has been posted a couple of times.

If that is the case then you need to work very hard at figuring out the solution. This isn’t it.

So… Create a third data center, call it international and allow people who want to choose to create their home world there to do so. Or, allow cross-region guesting to instances such as dungeons and fractals. Or, do something else that works for your system but allows people in different regions to play together.

I’ve heard it said that Mike O’Brien is a network God. Surely he can figure something out.

I don’t understand how A-Net can say on one day that they understand how important community is and on the next say that we can’t guest cross-server? What is the point?? We could already, team, guild, dungeon, Fractal and sPvP cross-server, and since we still won’t be able to WvW while guesting how is this any different? Seriously, what exactly is the point??

How the hell could this company allow us to play with people from all over the globe in GW1 and not be able to do the same now. Giant steps backwards. Over and over again, giant steps backwards.

Alchemy Incorporated [AI] Sorrows Furnace NA

in Guilds

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

I’m starting a fresh recruitment thread because the old one was just too cluttered.

AI has reformed for GW2 and we’re looking for a few good people to join the lunacy. We are a social guild that participates in PvE and WvW. We mostly play on the Sorrows Furnace server in the US, but if you aren’t into WvW feel free to join from any server. We have recently teamed with the guild Spill The Blood for sPvP — they are very noob friendly and have tournament groups forming most evenings with paid tournaments every Wednesday night.

Our rule:
Have fun, don’t be a jerk.

Things we value:
Game of Thrones, salty language peppered with wordplay and innuendo, www.deviantart.com, punctuation, quoting Princess Bride and Firefly, pie, and teaming up to play with guildmates and allies.

Things we do not appreciate:
PLAyIng bIG LetTEr LIttLE LetTEr, almost all types of hate speech unless it is directed at popular Texas politicians, l337 5p34k, whining in guild chat because no one wants to come do Queensland renown hearts, referring to things that are stupid or ridiculous as gay.

Things we require from our players:
Basic knowledge:
You must know that there are three variants of the word there and how to use each one:
There — Over yonder
They’re — what they be gonna do
Their — not your’n.
Maturity:
Basically this is an R Rated guild. We do not check ID’s at the door, but if we’re running a dungeon and your mom comes by and hears us using vulgarities in Mumble and makes you sign out we will be angry. At you. Most of our current roster is over 30.
Activity:
Since most of our roster is over 30 we also understand about kids, jobs, hobbies, aging parents etc. We’re good with you playing when you can. This is a very laid back environment.
The way the AI world works:
The developers, in their infinite wisdom, have allowed for multiple guilds in GW2. We don’t expect to be your only guild or to always have something on tap that will keep you entertained. We will have events and outtings, but it won’t be a constant thing. Go, play, have fun. For some of us AI is home, and if it becomes home for you too, that’s great; but, if you just want to visit, hang out, and have a few laughs that’s great too. Feel welcome to come and go as you please. I expect that all of us, including leadership, will sometimes go visit and play with other guilds. The one request is that if you are teaming with another guildie please represent AI so that we can get the influence. This isn’t a mandate, it’s just a request — we understand that there might be times when it seems more appropriate to represent another guild. We just ask that you keep our influence in mind too.
We have a group of allies that we have played with for several years. Their rules are different from ours and the rating in alliance chat is G to PG Light. Plus, they hug and stuff /me shudders. But, all in all they are great fun. Treat them as well as you would an AI’er and save the colorful language/stories for guild chat.

I’d love to see 8-10 player instanced content. I’d do it with the guild. But, I would hate to see exlusive rewards tied to it.

Fractals are good fun, and I like them, but I don’t like that ascended gear is tied only to Fractals and I don’t like that the fractal levels are so divisive. Personally, I’d love some Fractal like “missions” that end with a splendid or glorious or dungeon type chest, no new token, no reward that can’t be gotten in other ways through the world.

I pretty much consider all of the game’s content as guild content, but having more party spots available in some instances would make things better for group focused players.

A Statement Regarding Vertical Progression.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

If the power curve being mentioned is so shallow that I can play the game I enjoy and progress on the curve without noticing it – if the design and the mechanics are solid enough that I can simply play the game and have the game subtly guide me along the curve, then I don’t think that has to be a negative thing. But the trick’s in the subtleties.

Quoted by being my exact thoughts on this topic.

It’s up to the devs to design the game to guide us (non-grind types) along the gear curve through playing, not grinding, and it’s so far, so good. (Unless you must have infused ascended gear, in which case enjoy your grind. I’ll be off having fun instead.)

My problem with the November 15 update is not so much that it introduced gear grind as that it introduced the Fractal level gated content. I have had the displeasure of watching guildmates that enjoy each other’s company, that have played together since the game started, being forced to decide whether to play Fractal 7-8 for the sake of both level advancement and significantly better drops/rewards, or join their friends in fractal levels 3/4 where they can have good fun as a team but without the enhanced progression. That’s where A-Net really messed up, and they say they’ll fix it.

I can live with the gentle power curve, even though it isn’t my preferred method of play, but I won’t live with the splintered relationships if they continue to gate content in a completely artificial and unneeded manner. Hopefully they’ve learned that lesson.

Intensely Aggravating PvE creature re-spawns

There seem to be some bugs in the respawn. Sometimes you can kill a monster and it immediately respawns — as if the timer start is tied to the point that the mob came into the world instead of to the time it died and the respawn time has already elapsed. As soon as the monster dies it is replaced. If you kill the creature again there is usually a reprieve, but there are many times when mob death seems to immediately trigger respawn. I don’t have video recording or I would try to get you some footage, but it definitely does happen.

Our guilds experience of GW2 so far.

Aye.8392

one can agree or disagree with op, but he certainly raises some points. GW2 needs to give valid reasons to players to gather under the same flag: unfortunately, being able to join multiple guilds is completely killing the meaning of being in a guild, because ultimately if you are part of everything, you are part of nothing.
Guilds lack individuality, joining one is the same as joining any other: this is bad, totally bad.
Each Guild should be unique for its own reasons, there are plenty of ways to do this… I hope someday a bunch will be implemented

This is nonsense. Guilds don’t need something “implemented” to make them unique — that’s on the guild itself. If your leader and members don’t mutually create something worthwhile no amount of dev intervention is going to change it. And what is this “if you are part of everything you are part of nothing BS?” If you are part of everything you are part of everything and it’s very easy to do in this game. You can chill with your PvE buddies most of the time, PvP with your PvP guild on Wednesday night, then run dungeons with your cross-server dungeon running guild when you want. These are all valid activities. Some guilds can manage to do it all, but if not it’s not a big deal. You can still have it all without ever having to join a 500 man invisi-guild.

WvW Borderland "Hills" Keep Bugged

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

There are enemy NPC guards that spawn into the courtyard in Hills. They attack the friendlies and cause the crossed-sword “in combat” icon to appear on the map. The biggest thing, though, is that they cause the way point to show as contested and it cannot be used.

It costs 1.5g to order a way point in the keep. This is a substantial cost to the player for something that a bug is negating. It also makes the crossed swords at the keep become a “cry wolf” problem. No one pays attention when the keep is actually under attack because it shows combat when none really exist. If there is a lone defender in the Keep they are oftentimes left with killing these bugged “guards” to keep the WP effective instead of watching for enemy invaders as they should be.

Shadaran Hills guards bugged or as intended?

in WvW

Posted by: Aye.8392

Aye.8392

I haven’t spent a lot of time in WvW but recently my guild claimed Shadaran, activated buffs and started upgrades. Fairly frequently there would be enemy NPC veteran guards spawn in the courtyard that would engage the guards, cause the crossed swords to appear on the map, and cause the wp to become contested.

Is there some way to prevent this happening? Is it a bug? Is it intended? It seemed very odd.

I’d be happy if people couldnt use it to show off how much cash they have in towns, sure it’s usefull in orr and other areas where having that sort of ability helps you turn the tide but it shouldnt ever be visible in towns imo and there should be requirements other than gold added to the rank(perhaps a way to ensure your deserving of the honor of command or capable of leading).

It really irks me to continue to see this type of mindset.

I have a commander’s title. I turn it off if I am going into WvW because I do not have the title for the sake of leading in WvW. Squad chat is the only way that we have to establish cross-guild chat for our alliance. This alliance has existed for 7 years and even though A-Net hasn’t implemented alliances in GW2 it’s important to my group to be able to keep in contact. So, I wear my commander’s icon in town and believe me it isn’t to flaunt my wealth.

My guild’s experience could not be more different.

Now, we have GW2, and what do we do?

-We run personal story as a group, often times doing the same story step more than once so different people can choose different options at the end of a step.

-We run dungeons as a group.

-We do meta events as a group.

-We level alts as a group.

I’m waiting for GvG, it will be nice once it arrives. I’m waiting for custom arenas for some 1v1 or 2v2 guild scrims… those are fun I’m waiting for something like a successor to Urgoz / The Deep that allows for a larger group to play together in instanced content… I don’t need / want 25 man content, but 8-12 man content would be a welcome addition. I would also like to see the return of GW1 style challenge missions with leaderboards…. PvE content that you can get competitive about

Quoted because it all needs to be said again. There doesn’t need to be grind to have group content. There just needs to be a great group of people. I hope they add lots of new stuff for guilds to participate in, but in the meantime the best guilds will be playing the game. Together.

Experience with my guild so far in GW2 is the exact opposite of the OP’s. Our guild came over from GW1 with three players, and we’ve recruited up to 138 members now. Our guild is active, we have lively chat, and members visit our forums regularly. We have dungeon groups forming nightly and fractals happen almost as regularly. I’ve gone out looking for other guilds that share our basic culture but focus on different activities, and I point my players to those guilds for things like sPvP and I encourage members to participate with multiple guilds. Yesterday we had 51 members log in and had 3 fractal groups and 1 dungeon group running concurrently. We do stuff together.

But, I still agree with the OP on a few points. We don’t need gear grind to have group content, but we do need some group content. It would be very nice to have ways to play with more than 5 players at a time and keep them together and organized. I’d love to have some 8 – 15 person instances. I’d like activities like Keg Brawl to be guild friendly. Wintersday was good fun, but it gave us very few added chances to play as a guild — the lack of rewards for replaying the Tixx dungeons was a bad decision for guilds. Halloween was better because both the labyrinth and the Mad King dungeon was great for guild play.

I sometimes run what I call “Occupy Tyria” events where our guild just runs through a zone with no real goals in mind; we kill champions, do dynamic events, jump off cliffs — just play together. We can play in the open world for only a very little while before the teams fragment into different directions. It would be helpful if guild members showed up as gold dots on the map the way party members show up blue. It would help us play together in open world.

There are a few ways that A-Net could make things better for guilds without making things worse for solo players, and without creating grind. That’s what I’d like to see done. I want them to consider guilds while they’re creating new content and new events and really ask the team if what they are creating is guild/group friendly both in play and in reward.

WvW reset

in Suggestions

Aye.8392

This is a casual player quality of life change, nothing real important, but one that could probably be implemented fairly easily…

As it stands right now WvW resets on Friday evening, brining all of the server bonuses back to nothing for the weekend — the time that casual players are able to participate in game play the most. If the reset were to take place on Sunday evening instead of Friday evening the WvW bonuses would be more effective for most of the players. It might even cause some casual players to care more about WvW and fight for their home servers for a few hours at reset.
