I am so confused! How do I reset traits?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

As far as i can tell, there isn’t a reset button for lower level characters. Level 80 toons have all training finished, you can swap the trait lines by clicking on the big icon at the left of the trait line and choosing a different one. You might need to unlock those using your hero points that you ahve first.

If you’re low levelled, it has almost randomly given you garbage which you can’t change.

Random Assigned Build on lvl26 toon

Ok maybe I’m being thick here, but how do I reset training and the tree it has randomly given me on the reset?

Or am i stuck with the garbage build Anet have decreed is what I wanted until the toon levels up and I can post training and hero points into where I would have put them?

As an example, my lvl23 thief now has some random training assigned, but worst of all, SHADOW ARTS unlocked- which would have been my last choice as the skills in it are totally useless for what I want to do at that level.

Lvl26 guardian, all posted into valor..seriously….

Lvl26 warrior, all posted into DEFENCE….

Dear Gaile,
Thanks for the update, however it does not address the disparity in the price of the HoT expansion for those in for example the UK and those in the USA.

To explain at the current exchange rate the rough cost of the HoT expansion in the USA is $50, $75 and $100 for the Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate versions. At the current exchange rate converting the $US price to UK sterling the equivalent cost would be approximately £31.67, £47.50 and £63.34 respectively. Sadly ANet/NCSoft have costed the expansion in the UK at a considerable different price to that in North America; £34.99, £59.99 and £79.99 so at the current exchange rate this equates to $55.25, $94.72 and $126.30 respectively.

I am a member of a multinational guild within GW2 and the the cost disparity between the rest of the world and the North American price is typical. Members outside North America are very reluctant, to put it politely, to purchase the HoT expansion because of this.

Could you please explain why this disparity in price is present?

20% VAT (or 22% if they are selling it from Ireland for tax purposes of their own) plus a small amount for exchange differences.

The problem is that with the addition of VAT, the prices sound even worse.

I still won’t be pre purchasing.

I still think the expansion should come with a new character slot, like every expansion adding a new class did in Guild Wars, included as standard.

Trying to force people to pre order in order to get what should be standard still feels underhanded to me.

I’m happy that some people feel pleased enough to go and pre order the expansion still knowing so little about it (I’m reminded of MLM schemes for some reason, or the original dotcom bubble), but personally I’m still not feeling the urge to spend multiple £40’s before the game even comes out.

Guess I’ll wait and buy it when it either gets discounted or gets a character slot added as part of the expansion pack, not just a ‘pre order or else’ pack.

Please clarify: By the new wording, it’s buy pre order and get a slot, if you wait until after release day, no new slot? Nowhere to put that new class?

Is that correct? Going from bad to worse if that is correct- even less incentive to purchase after release, and given the high price and lack of solid content I won’t be pre ordering at the moment, I’ll be waiting for the sale.

New players getting HoT for free is ridiculous, at least throw in a discount, gems, some bonus upgrades or free character slots.

They are not getting HoT for free. They have to pay 50$ just like everyone else. They are simply getting the core game as a free bonus IF they purchase HoT.

lol, they haven’t delivered any “content” for months now… and even when they were “delivering” content in the form of living story episodes, you seem to be forgetting the weeks long “breaks” they were taking

But when you got something you got it for free. Stop complaining about free stuff.

Unless you missed the two week window, in which case you have to pay for it with gems…so not exactly free then.

Having a 1/2 second cast was fine, but adding a 1/2 second before it triggers is awful for wvw encounters, where that extra half second whilst moving (running away?) will mean I either have to stop moving (and die) or not get the benefit (and die). Won’t matter id duels and pve because in a duel you can blast through it and in pve you’re usually not moving anyway.

What’s next? Battle dinosaurs to activate a super weapon that will simultaneously fire lasers at all of the enemies objectives?

That last line made me smile..when I realised that’s pretty much what they have brought in with the new map middle fight for the right to blast your opponents doors down (pve ftw!).

Will we play on the same bortherlands for years again?

For $50,- you get airships in WvW.
(The new WvW world maps will be available to everyone, even without having the HoT expansion)
And thats about it for the wvw people xD

New profession, New specialisations adding more versatile and refreshing combat, new map, new things like airships and stuff you can access via guilds, new wvw masteries. aswell as new weapons on each char futher improving on and addming more versatility to combat, this expansion is adding an awful lot.

Yes, pushing everyone into only 3 trait lines is certainly ‘more versatile’, as is taking out the points from traits and adding them to armor sets (not to mention meaning most of us will have to redo armor sets, either remake from scratch or remold in forge, losing the expensive runes in the process).

Map, first in three years…btw, do you need gliding there or can you glide, as gliding comes from the expansion so non-HoT people could be severely kitten…

Airships, massive pve fight in middle of map, yep, soon we won’t need players there at all to fight against….

New weapons..most of which will go the way of current sets…

Here’s some logic:

The vast majority of players are unhappy about the expansion.

If they were exstatic about it, people would be buying it in droves, towns would be full of happy people spouting on about it, and forums and social media would be full of people singing it’s praises.

The vast majority of players are too apathetic to post on the forums.- in fact, they probably don’t even know they exist.

Most people will just stop playing a game rather than post on the forums.

People are wary of posting on forums kitten many posts are ‘moderated’ for having an opinion that may be negative towards the publisher.

In order for people to post on the forums, they either feel quite strongly about something, or are regular posters, or are white knights who will blindly defend anything and everything.

Ergo, we can conclude that the vast majority are unhappy. Not indifferent.

You could make most posters to this thread happy by personally buying them the expansion and sending them the code.

Umm..how do you know they work hard and are passionate about what they do? Do you personally monitor them 24/7 to ensure this?

For all you know they deliberately set up to produce as little as possible and charge as much as possible while laughing their heads off at the gullible suckers who will lap it all up and pay whatever they charge. There are plenty of examples of this in the real world (ask yourself why many mobile phones and computers cost cost so much yet cost so little to make and how much ‘extra’ features are really worth compared to the previous model).

I’m not saying any of that is true, but to state that they are all hard working and doing their utmost at all times without any evidence to back it up is as equally valid an argument as the one I just postulated above.

The problem is one of perception. From a wvw point of view we are finally getting one new map (which replaces the existing one) after 3 years and which contains a mega pve style battle for cheese mechanics which blow up doors, whilst removing things most players didn’t want removed.

One new spvp map, that requires different builds than most of the rest but will be put in the rotation anyway.

Skill updates that are long overdue.

Living story that you have to pay for if you happen to miss a section, kittening off more players.

Fixing the terrible NPE system.

Introducing grind for your specilisations and elite specials, and making them only obtainable in the new areas so wvw players are forced into pve.

One new class but no character slot for it.

Reducing build diversity by forcing you into 3 trait lines with restricted choices.

Removing trait line stats and adding them to armor, forcing you to redo armor sets, trinkets etc on every one of your alts that you play, as well as having to redo builds.

Perception is very important, especially so in the gaming world, and to me (and, it seems, many others) the perception is that what they are asking for is too much for what they are delivering. Whether that is a deliberate decision by the company as a cynical act or just an innocent error on their part isn’t really material, the end result is the same- a sour taste in the mouth and a reluctance or a refusal to part with our hard earned cash.

I don’t know why people seem to think finally getting around to adding a feature that existed in the original game (ie Guild Halls) is such a big thing- they should have been in at the start.

Skill updates, etc should have been happening every month, instead they hold them all back.

Dumbing down the trait trees and restricting build choice and stat selection is being sold as an ‘expansion’.

Grinding for mastery points, 3-4 new maps which we know nothing about, a new race, the inevitable hugely buggy wvw map (first new map since launch) and one new spvp map and the usual spam 1 zerg fest mechanics.

Sounds well worth the money…..

I’ll be playing gw1 for the foreseeable future- you know, the game with guild halls, templates for builds, real teams, hard missions and no face palm one shot cheese mechanics.

I’m sorry but they’re not adding a feature like Guild Halls in the original Guild Wars 1. If it was just an instanced room with some merchants that you can squirmish in, you might be right. But it’s not.

They’re doing something very different here. Giving you an entire zone. Creating a fight for that zone. ALlowing you to build structures in that zone. Allowing you to decorate it and move stuff around in it and rotate it. Allowing you to duel and squirmish. What they’re doing here isn’t a Guild Hall like you have in Guild Wars 1 and probably shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath.

You’re right. Instead of having multiple maps to fight proper GvG battles on involving different tactics, etc they are giving you a play pit about the size of a postage stamp which you can add a couple of bits too and calling it an ‘arena’, instead of having a nice base where you could add all the merchants, links to other areas, and an area to walk around in.

Yep, not worth mentioning in the same breath- GW2’s ‘Guild Hall’ is a pale imitation of what Guild Halls were in Guild Wars.

Your name perfectly reflects that statement. How are you being denied creating a revenant? I don’t know about you but I received 5 free character slots when I bought my copy of the game.

It would have come as a big surprise for you if you opened the game first time after paying £50 and found you had no character slots..those first 5 weren’t free, they came as part of your purchase price. Seems Like a Good Time to Try ESO

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Baldrick.8967

Baldrick.8967

I’ve been a loyal GW2 patron since release. Even spending a small amount of cash on gems every month. Up until now, GW2 has been a great value. But I just refuse to spend 50 bucks plus on Silverwastes 2.0 and some LS updates. Twenty even twenty-five bucks? Yes. Fifty? Not on your life. The value is just not there. The amount of content appears to be very slim for such a high dollar figure.

Especially since I’ve been eyeing up ESO since it released. And now that it’s B2P and discounted, it seems like the better value. Also, most of its bugs have been fixed and it’s received a nice amount of polish as well as new systems. Many of the issues players have complained about are gone.

So I think I’ve off to Tamriel for a while. At least until HoT comes down to a more realistic price based on the small amount of content it appears to be delivering.

we have no clue how much content HoT has. we dont know how many maps there are, we dont know how many dynamic events there are, we dont know how many story line missions there are, we dont know if there are dungeons / fractals or even raids. how can you objectively make this statement "But I just refuse to spend 50 bucks plus on Silverwastes 2.0 and some LS updates. " ?

As we don’t know how much content there actually is, his argument is just as valid as yours…

Let me know when they see sense and price the second package at $50, remove the first package, and make it so you get a character slot for your money.

Basically, shift the packages along, remove basic, make the ‘deluxe’ the standard, and ‘ultimate’ into deluxe.

No character slot for an expansion that includes a new race? Really? Someone point the marketing people in the direction of the game and tell them to play the stuff they are peddling, then they might not come up with such stupid ideas.

Personally unless something changes I won’t buy the expansion until it goes on sale – plenty of other games to play.

The OP totally fails to consider the amount players have spent in the BL store, as well as character slots, etc etc .

£60 (the second, which I will call the ‘standard’ package, is £59.99, or about $93 here, $74.99 in USA) for an expansion with one character slot (basic package is useless, can’t roll a new toon without a slot to roll it in) is a rip off.

I’d expect the £35 version to include all the items and the toon slot (then charge £10 extra if you want a copy of the original game).

Of course in the UK we have to pay VAT on the purchase so our prices are 20% higher PLUS Anet have rounded UP making it even more expensive.

Interesting to note that 4000 gems in USA version is only $50 but in UK is £42.50, which is $65.88, or about 10% more expensive taking into account VAT.

The fact that they don’t even consider putting in an additional character slot in the expensive £35 version makes this a doubtful purchase for me.

Paying £60 for a basic expansion pack (ie one with a character slot to roll the new race on) doesn’t seem worth it.

I expect Anet are going to get a lot of negative comments on all media about this.

my current necro build is :

6,2,2,2,2. Using 5,7,13, then 6,5,6,2.

Knights set, condi foods, earth runes, combination of trinkets, sig of corrupt.

How many points will I need to replicate the build?

Guess what? It’s ‘sub optimal’ according to the meta, but guess what? When I use it it’s remarkably effective in wvw as well as very survivable.

How close can I get in the new points system, especially given the loss of the trait line points into gears, etc etc?

Gear is FAR from irrelevant, given that they seem to be taking the points out of the trait lines and putting it in to gear. In fact, gear will be more important to achieve the balance of stats that is my preferred play style.

But maybe we should just be forced into spvp style with one trinket and one type of armor, or just go that one step further and just have everyone only able to select from gw2 guru approved builds?

im not saying gear serves no purpose, im saying it has little to do with trait/skill aquisistion.

you cant do 5 specialization traitline builds anymore. Some traits got merged and juggled.

also as far as i can see many of the traits you liked no longer exist.
spite V retaliation when enetering death shroud, kind of changed, now it does two things
spite VII marks deal more damage, dont see it anymore.
spite XIII far as i can see it doesnt exist anymore
curses VI is baseline now, wells are ground targeted no matter what
death magic V got merged in to soul reaping

http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgQBqAXkBLg~

this is probably closest to what you had

you would use 160 points in specializations to unlock the build i just linked.
what skills do you use.
assuming you unlock every skill it will probably be about 320 hero points.

So my build is dead and I’ll have to restrict myself to some pigeonholed build instead.

So can i make that build with the 400 I got for being 80 or do you mean I have to find 160 points (which sounds rather more than 65).

Probably use the elite line, which will be more points again?

I’m not looking forward to the incoming restrictions – most games expand build choice as they develop, GW2 is ground breaking in the sense with every update they restrict it- first the NPE (No Players Ever) and now restricting builds to three badly constructed lines.

nah, you ll have more than enough.

looks like marks dmg is baseline now, so you just lost one, unless i just cant find it.

specs have a lot less variety now, but you generally get more power. I dont love that aspect really, but what can you do, to be honest builds are changing a lot for everyone, its kind of different system.

nowadays games actually seem to do this often. Especially games with more options. i dont think its great but everyone is aiming for simplicity these days

Good if I can get close the the stats I had – I have to take into account the effects on foods, etc as well as a limited supply of laurels to get ascended trinkets – as well as work out which armor pieces I’ll need after all the other changes so the build synergies kick in.

The big challenge now will be to get a new working build that works for me given the 3 lines restriction, which just seems such a huge step backwards..and then work a way around that nerf to my main heal too…

Looks like my engi might have the dust blown off it for a while judging by some of the changes.

my current necro build is :

So, cap everything on the map, then all leave. As there is no one on the map, you cannot have anyone enter (I assume your system kicks out players from maps to even things up?), and we rack up endless points while you cannot even enter your own B/L to retake anything?

Try again.

Congratulations on taking just over a minute per skill challenge. That’s ten seconds communing, (including moving to it), 20-30 seconds to a minute to clear mobs away from some of them, and 2-3 minutes moving between them. Good speed boost you had going there, along with leaps etc on your warrior cooldowns. Oh wait, 2-3 minutes per would be 88-132 minutes, bit more than an hour and you’re rushing it, knowing exactly where they are and probably using waypoints too.

It’s the fact that it has to be done before you can use an alt that irks. ’I’ll play my ranger today’ Oh wait, first I need to redo the armor, change trinkets, work out a new build, calculate how many hero points I need (including elite line no doubt), then run through every map from LA to Orr, THEN I can start the ‘about an hour per character’ (read 4+ Hours). Then go to several other maps (running- no waypoints opened) and grab at least 21 more- and that 44 assumed no events in the way, no aggro, no champs/bosses/blocked points.

It won’t encourage build diversity, and it sure as hell won’t encourage people to try out more classes. we’ll be driven even more into ‘this zerk build only or gtfo lfg calls’.

Of course poeple who just play ‘spam 1’ zerk builds won’t even notice- a bit like wvw lag that kills casters but allows certain skills on heavy classes to continue without a porblem.

Dynamic Events in WvW

Yes, let’s have all pve type events in wvw- in fact, make it so that you can only compete in wvw via mindless pve style events. No more of that nasty killing each other, now you have to complete an event to capture your ’enemy’s’ tower, or destroy their gates..oh wait, that one is coming… /sarcasm (for those that didn’t realise)

PVE is that way <<<<< OP.

65 skill point places, let’s say it takes me ten minutes to map, locate them, do them as I have no clue where they are and will need a map program on my other comp to compare to find them on the map. That’s 650 minutes, or a little shy of 11 hours of game time, or maybe 4-5 days of playing per toon. let’s say I just do 20 of my toons before I die of boredom at running around pve maps, that’s around 80-100 days or around THREE MONTHS of doing something that doesn’t interest me just to have skills available should I wish (or my team want) to use them.

So glad there is no grind in this game- and that’s before having to grind out funds for new armors, weapons, find laurels for the revised trinkets to make the builds work, etc etc .

So the argument for removing applied fortitude in wvw is that it created an unlevel playing field between newer players and veterans..but what exactly does not having access to entire trait lines do? Take a break, come back and suddenly you’re faced with weeks in pve before you can access all the skills you want for your build…

Not everyone plays at breakneck pace of a few hours to do 65 skill points- more likely on average that ten minutes per is optimistic for most of us who will get distracted or more likely log off after 5 or ten in a couple hours or more as it’s boring, tedious and not at all what we want to be doing.

Will Anet change the system? Not a chance.

Another massive shove from Anet to try and pigeonhole players into playing one or if your lucky, two toons.

I have around 30 level 80 toons, probably use ten of them on a fairly regular basis.

So that’s between 650 and 1950 times I need to hunt around pve maps doing stuff I don’t want to do to unlock build variance on my characters and have a chance at making either my existing build or a new one (as many builds are killed off by the new trait system/wvw changes).

Not to mention probably needing different armor sets on quite a few of them.

I’m glad this isn’t a grindy Korean MMO, I’d hate to see what they did then….

The more I read of this expansion the less enthusiastic I am about it. But I’ll probably still buy it, for whenever I come back to the game more regularly.

You over extended yourself, Anet can’t restrict systems dependent on people who have 30 characters. Complaining you need to do a lot of things because you chose to create so much for yourself to do is kinda silly.

Also worth noting AGAIN, you will have access to 400/465 on EACH of those characters – you wil be able to make a few builds on each no problem.

Yes, a few, non-optional builds that don’t suit my play style.

Maybe if they had brought over something simple like templates over from Guild Wars (you know, the game it shares a name with, not much else), then it would have been easier.

But yeah, I’ll just go with the ‘spam 1, zerk ftw’ crowd’ and not bother thinking any more, as it seems to be discouraged by the way things are going.

It’s blindingly obvious the system is being brought in without a care for those who just want to wvw (without having to be kitten, looks like ‘repeat the same XXXX pve XXXX 30 times). Pvp , the blessed spvp ’e-sport’ won’t be affected, and pve’rs generally just run one toon called ‘zerk’ (or are rapidly being pushed that way) so they will experience all the new shiny content once and be done.

I’ll probably flip a coin and decide on a single toon to play, get bored with it after a week or two, then decide whether it’s worth playing any more and having to repeat the same boring pve to get that toon ready for what I actually want to play (wvw), or just go play a different game. Either way Anet won’t care, as I’ll have paid at least one amount of expansion fee.

. Those are just my experiences from the transfers I have done.

And there is the problem in a nutshell- people have had to move server (some several times) in order to find the fights.

Too many servers, not enough incentive to wvw.

Even having reward tracks similar to spvp would be a help, as well as awarding map wide bonuses every now and again (change the time out to 5 minutes inactive to help prevent abuse, along with reporting options).

If they put in a once per second tick on retaliation for pve/wvw, then I’d be fine with it applying to conditions. spvp you could leave it to tick multiple times on multiple targets as it’s not much of an issue when there is a maximum of 5 targets and more likely one or possibly two that you are hitting who might have retal up.

If there isn’t an internal cooldown then no way for wvw…

Never been a fan of platform games, jumping games, or anything else that might keep a seven year old entertained. I’m also not a fan of multi level maps purely designed to extend the distance between two points by forcing you to go up/around/down/back/forward to arrive at a point on the map 200 yards from where you were.

I get that some people enjoy them, but there are quite enough Super Mario clones around already, play those to your hearts content if you like jumping.

Welcome to our two new specialists, who judging by their post history and personal histories fit the bill. Good choices- just remember to join an EU server too with that alt account (or ask Anet to provide a couple that you can log into on various EU servers), as we do tend to have different playstyles and input from seeing it is always better than second hand.

Good luck in your new roles.

They have picked two, and they are so special it’s a secret!

with the way the last one was treated, thats prolly for the best x_X

I’d agree, but I guess it would signal the end of even a pretense of listening to the players or having feedback (or even the mythical ‘wvw dev team’).

I’ll wait for the Sterling price. If it’s 40 Euro, then the Sterling price should be under £30. But it won’t be, it will be £40. As we get ripped off by every game company in the UK, pretty sure Anet won’t be any different. We’ll end up getting stuffed as usual.

Sales tax doesn’t account for the difference.
