Best class for every role in WvW

Probably a mesmer. Lots of utility that translates good in all aspects of wvw

Cant say I have ever seen a decent mesmer frontliner. Or a backliner for that matter. Last I checked mesmers held a very niche role in the zerg, counting for maybe 1 out of every 20-30 player and the rarest class in the game outside of its primary use – perplexity roamer. Once, it was a true backliner with glamour confusion bombs but that was a loooooong time ago.

How on earth this suddenly translate to best class for every role I have absolutely no idea.

Mesmers have wells now(tbh have no idea how good they are being i have never played mesmer)…i would say they are far off from best frontline tho(even full defensive would be hard to stay alive

Wells are all pretty meh except for maybe gravity well.

Mesmers are most valuable for its boon share to zerg at the moment. Together with guardian and revenant, the frontline party can stack long duration of almost every boon in the game.

Other than that, it is still mostly the old utilities including veil, portal and null field. It is probably not the most fun class to play in zerg.

A good chrono can be ok in a zerg fight for tagging those pesky eles and necros, and for finishing off downed players as well as blocking some ranged stuff, but positioning is key and blink is a life saver. Can be fun to scout around with but most of the time I’ll stick with staff ele as both much better surviving and can run next to comm in water:-)

Last night, against superior numbers, we tried for a push on garri in their home BL.

They hid under multiple AC’s, we pushed anyway, wiped a few, retreated, they build more AC, more catapults, we built a counter treb, we continue to push, they try to push and as soon as they out of AC range they die. So they build more catapults, we continue to push and collect loot every time they try and push back.

Eventually with our losses we were down to 25 against 50 and were forced to retreat.

But it was a great fight and lasted ages, and one which was a welcome change from an open field fight or bunkering inside the garri. I say a nice change because we have lots of open field fights (which as an ele are always fun) and this was something a bit different. I wouldn’t want anyone at Anet to read this and think ‘great, they all want more siege’, so I’ll say again- a nice change. Not something I’d like to do every day but was fun because it doesn’t normally happen.

Like many have posted already, scoring being scaled to population (or lack there of) would be the best option presented.

I don’t like the idea of certain hours (timezones) contributing more to the score than others.

I disagree strongly with it being the best option.

If you score for action rather than passive ticks like it is now, then the population differences at different times of day are mitigated, and huge over night swings can no longer happen. See my earlier posts.

Any sort of ‘multiplier’ is a terrible idea which would lead to gaming of the system as well as a lot of ‘salt’.

At the risk of repeating myself, I’ll repeat myself.

The simple solution to night capping is simple: reduce the points per tick of holding an objective, increase points for actual actions (defending/attacking/gaining an objective/killing players/killing dollies etc).

Result= much less points scored for holding everything for hours while no one is around, no more +20-30k points gained overnight.

People who play off hours are still rewarded equally, so no need to program some awful multiplier (quick, log in 30 accounts to Deso and afk in spawn so we get a higher multiplier – see how easy that was to game?).

Bring this in sooner rather than later and then you can fiddle with the actual points per action and see how it affects the overall results.

Oh, and pure siege kills shouldn’t score points at all (giving loot is fine).

And one more suggestion- Trebs should not be allowed to be placed inside structures.

There is one easy way to reduce the influence of ‘night capping’ and that is to reduce the amount you tick every 15 (5) minutes just for holding stuff, whilst increasing the amount you get for killing enemies, capping and defending structures. It would also encourage fights and bunkering and make the game a bit more strategic.

Problem solved. No annoying everyone with a multiplier (that will be gamed) that will discourage players who play at hours outside the ‘prime’.

The split into 2 hour slots will be interesting but individual rewards should NOT be based on being involved in a slot from start to finish or the number you participate in, they should continue to be tied to the current reward system.

Why can't WvW builds be like sPvP?

To be honest in 99% of all fights the difference between being full ascended and full exotic isn’t going to be a deciding factor.

What I do think needs addressing is accessibility to different stat combinations. Currently you cannot get ascended trinkets of the new stat combos in WvW, they are locked behind PvE raids.
Armour and weapons are not so bad now that prices of things like black diamonds and ebony orbs have come down but maguuma lily is still horrifically expensive.
New runes though…not very accessible either for people who don’t PvE much though map currencies are slightly better in HoT maps.

Updating the badges weapon and armour vendor with all stat combos in the base game would go a long way to sorting this out. Then add a HoT vendor who sells weapons and armour with the HoT stats.

That would involve some programming for wvw, so not very likely to happen. I have to admit to not even bothering to find out the new runes etc as the liklihood of me doing enough pve to get them is zero.

No. Just no. Terrible idea. Usually brought up by spvp players who suddenly realise their pigeon hole build with trinket gets wrecked in wvw where build diversity still exists.

Why do these pigeon holers keep trying to push this terrible idea? Learn to think about your build, get the right foods, craft the right equipments and get on with enjoying the freedom that wvw has.

There’s a reason a lot of wvw players won’t go near spvp- build diversity. Don’t go restricting our choice because you can’t work out how to play the game and use a cookie cutter meta build from spvp forums.

Fastest way to farm Badges of Honor

1000 badges will take you quite a while. Before they nerfed the drop rate, EoTM dropped so many of them it got silly, so they took the nerf bat to all of wvw as a solution, meaning gaining 1000 now takes a very long time. I have noticed a better drop rate killing players but you need to play a tagging toon to get them- so join the spam 1 brigade at the front of the line for maximum badges. You might find playing a mesmer extremely slow on loot and badges (although mine doesn’t do too badly when I play it).

Alpine Maps.. fine tuning.

keep in mind folks, this thread is not pointing to “lets go back to DBLs” no. it’s saying “Lets FIX alpine BLs”.

The fixes anet did to the core DBLs before they rotated them out were pretty good (minus killing the orb-laser event. lots of good fights happened during that event)

Apart from the first week of the Deserted BL, never had a fight at the laser event. After the first week it was just ignored by our servers as being a PVE event. The occasional roamer party might spend some time doing it but mostly we’d be busy trying to find the enemy- and outside of prime that would just be on EB as no one bothered with Deserted.

There is nothing wrong with most of the treb placements apart from the ones in Citadel which should be fixed as they are exploiting a bug to throw a treb where it is very hard to kill it off.

NPC guards in camps and towers are at the right level, no need to adjust, and you could remove the two NPC ‘events’ that spawn mobs and 99% of us wouldn’t notice apart from to say ‘hooray, less pve’.

Outmanned buff needs adjustment.

The maps aren’t too small, the idea is that it should be easy to reach the battles which is where the fun is. Walking back for 5 minutes after dieing isn’t fun, it’s tedious. Ask anyone who tried ESO’s massive battlefield- with a mount it took so long no one wanted to die in case they faced the endless run back..

Not had a problem capping in Alpine with small groups- it’s been fun.

Alpine Border Land Back - Spawn Treb Bug

It’s an exploit and needs to be fixed. I’m glad there is now a wvw team and it’s being addressed. It was the lazy man’s way of taking down outer garri and north tower walls- now people will have to gather a few supplies and 5 man a couple catapults to do the same job.

Maybe it will teach people to group together even when there is only 5-10 people around rather than wondering off to do their own thing…

Objective Claiming - Combatting Troll Claims

From a server point of view, I’d go with being able to over ride with a higher aura. The server benefits. I benefit from the better aura.

You could then organise caps better so that you have the best auras on all objectives giving your server the best chance.

It’s a nice simple solution that means no input required from Anet past the programming, which suits them as trolling reports will get about as much joy as reporting speed hackers etc has done over the last three years.

Bring Back the Desert Borderland!

Sorry halo guild on SFR is going to EBG until there is active map-rotation, the map is exactly the same as the one we got bored with 2 years back, it has no added value atm. except for the new keep, tower and camp upgrade system.

If the change would be based on actively including more maps in WvW we would continiue to stay on the borderlands as for me now it is pointless.

Offensive potential has been reduced to offer zerg/blob warfare and perma-thief tagging a chance that is not an improvement, but a reduction of the offensive action diversity, map options and in my opinion a missed chance to make from change a ++ situation.

I wonder if 186 players start complaining wether to bring back Desert borderlands it would be a representative vote for Arena-Net to bring DBL back on the total amount of thousands of players representing WvW evry day.

I played Alpine 2,45 years after 5 minites of it i’m totally bored of the way it looks, it doesn’t offer anything new, it would work in a map-rotation but not as it is now.

So Angel Hearts Clan my guild will go EBG now.

I can’t say I’ve ever seen your guild on SFR. Did you just bandwagon here?

Out of the ‘186’, how many are active and how many actually play in wvw?

Given I’ve not seen you, going ‘back’ to EB won’t make much of a difference really.

And a guild going to EB? There is plenty of action to be had on the Alpine BL, or is facing other guild groups too hard? If you’re from SFR, then you wouldn’t be that concerned about the score and would be looking for fights- and whether it’s Deserted BL or Alpine doesn’t make much difference there (except Deserted is a longer run back after you wipe).

Just notify the community you are withdrawing from the guild roster on the TS meeting, thanks.

I dont understand what people do not get about a points based on the amount of resistance you faced in earning those points. More resistance = more points.

The more fights and time it took to capture objectives the more score you get for capturing those objectives. This keeps everyones “time” worth the same and only scales on how many other people are around when you do it.

Of course, OCX players dont like this idea because they enjoy their outsized power now AND get to claim they are being abused. Some nice parallels to SJW cry-bullying.

So let’s follow that reasoning. The zerg blob throws down 6 sup rams, downs the gate in seconds, kills the lord in 5, and as it doesn’t take long gets next to no reward.

The 5 man night capping team takes 5 minutes to get the gate down, another 5 minutes to kill the lord, and gets a huge reward?

Or 60 man zerg throws down 6 sup rams, wipes gate inside a minute, wipes the 40 man defence in seconds, collects loads of bags, wipes lord in seconds..does that count as ‘resistance’ for your score system?

Or let’s game the system at night, and go around attacking every object on the map but capturing none, then start slowly capping so it takes, say, 30 minutes to cap. Game records that it took 30 minutes to cap, must be worth a pile of points, right?

Points systems needs to be robust enough to prevent obvious gaming of the system, ‘time taken’ can be easily gamed.

The right solution is still based on ‘points once for cap dependent on tier’ then a very small trickle score for holding and a small amount for defending – so if you contest a keep with a WP, you are adding to the enemy score (might stop a lone thief being able to count as ‘under attack’).

I could live with a two week rotation- that way I wouldn’t play so much when Deserted are up and play more when Alpine is up.

Can’t wait to be able to go roam around Alpine again without having to run forever to reach the action, which is one of the failings of the Deserted maps.

Huge skill lag on EBG

Since when was the limit for EB raised to 150 players a side?

The limit is somewhere near 60 or 80. It was originally planned to be 150 a side but they quickly proved the servers couldn’t cope with that so they lowered the limits. At one point I think it was as low as 60 (remember the culling farce?).

So basically 240 MAX and the servers crash people out. the joys of d/cing in a large fight then looking at the 80 man queue..

Lag seems to have got a lot worse again recently, it’s probably all those extra retaliation calculations the servers need to do now more are playing melee again. Restrict it to one per second per toon and it might make the servers function better:-)

It’s very annoying dieing due to no passive heal on an ele and not being able to cast fields or doing my job in a fight. Makes me want to main guardian and spam 1..

I’ve decided all match ups should only have one prime time player’s score count towards the total on each side, that way there can be no arguments about blobs or night capping affecting the score.

The scoring will start at 7pm (yes, just when the EU sits down to eat or feed the kids) and end at 9.30pm, just when the working adults can finally get some game time in.

This way we can each have some spotty cave dweller determine our score for us rather than those nasty nightcappers…

(the above is a joke).

I still think the ‘score once for capping, score a small amount for successful defence’ is the best solution with the cap score based on tier of objective and objective type. That way you could cap all four maps entirely overnight and 6 hours later when some enemies arrive the score will not have suddenly jumped up by 20k when literally no one was around.

Tweak that idea and test it out to settle on the points given, maybe have a very small tick so retaining things still matters.

Maybe pvp players should give it more than 9 days in wvw (based on his postings, which until then were solely in th pvp forums) before deciding they have a great way of ruining the wvw game mode.

Basing it on guilds is such a bad idea- so Anet might actually be planning it or something similar.

I’m not in any major guild for many reasons. Firstly, I cannot use TS (comms on my server know why). Secondly, I cannot commit to being available when the guild is forming a raid. Thirdly, I run my own build main as an ele and won’t be told when, where or how to play. Despite all that, all open raids and some closed ones will happily take me in as I’m usually one of the last to die despite mostly being right next to the comm the entire fight (and mostly in water) and I’m not terrible at my class.

Basing numbers on ‘hours in wvw’ could be easily gamed, and I guarantee that one alliance would dominate most match ups, as all the better comms and players would seek to join it.

Then we would also see the demise of those wanting to play the least favoured classes- after all, if it’s guild v guild, you’re not going to want too many rangers, mesmers, thiefs or engineers about taking up spaces are you?

Again, you might keep a couple of really good ones if they can form a spike squad and wipe enemy eles, necros, etc or for picking off stragglers- but they’d need to be on TS in their own squad and be able to play and move as one and have group builds on (which many don’t).

I could have just said ‘bad idea’ but felt it necessary to elucidate my reasoning.

Here’s a simple fix. Capping an objective adds to your score ONCE. Defending then becomes an exercise in preventing the enemy from scoring. Player kills then become the dominant scoring mechanism.

Result= no more runaway scores from 6-9 hours of ‘nightcapping’ and ‘holding’ objectives when no one is around to challenge.

The key is in calculating the amount to add to the score for that cap, needs to be enough to affect the overall score but not so much that it affects the overall match.

Would also lead to potentially not wanting to flip objectives near their entrance, or to defending them to prevent a score.

So rather than holding 600 points on a tick every 15 minutes with no one around, the effect of uncontested flipping becomes much reduced.

Preventing an attack could also add a small amount to the score, so defence is rewarded (and adds to the contribution bar, provided you were in combat, no afk allowed!). It would also make contesting a WP by some random thief counter productive for their server as they would be adding to the enemy’s score. I’ve never understood why a single player touching a door should worry the defenders so much that the alarms ring and the WP becomes contested.

This method would see greater scoring the more players on the map, but everyone’s efforts at any time of day would be equally rewarded.

Server Merge: Too much lag for roaming

Three way fight in Deserted BL last night during prime, laggy for a little bit- enough to cause many deaths as any lag kills my ele and it’s fields.

It’s server side. I play on a 200mb+ connection on a brand new gaming beast of a machine with settings turned right down, and still get issues in 3 way fights wherever they are if numbers are high enough.

With settings turned up high, the game crashes and i get to send another error message.

If you see a staff ele being attacked by the enemy, it’s not a duel- rescue me!

Generally I ignore them unless I recognise them as gankers and I’m on my mesmer- turns out they ain’t so good without their 2/3 buddies:-)

Shield Generators need to be toned down!

Option 1: stand and watch. Utter waste of space you are. One of my pet hates is players afraid of getting their pixels hurt (that includes players who can run backwards faster than forwards..). Players will literally stand there and watch the wall/gate melt from catapults rather than run in, get a few hits on them, and have their pixels hurt. If enough run in and suicide, you can melt the siege quite quickly. But people would rather stand there than do anything at all…

Option 2: do something about it. If the siege is in any way reachable, then go suicide on it. If it isn’t directly reachable, then counter it. HINT: it might be useful to build a shield generator first , then the counter treb…

Option 3: attempt to pull them away by attacking something else, or attacking several structures at the same time. When wvw first came out we used to have at least one team whose sole job was exactly that- known as the suicide squad due to the fact they would get killed quite a bit, but in doing so would pull off a lot more of the enemy.

Option 4: take a small squad and insta build superior bally or cata to take down some enemy siege/help a co ordinated push on the siege and shield generators.

The larger force if well organised should win eventually- this is balanced.

Do you still hate the Desert BL after patch?

The increased numbers make the maps less annoying, but it still takes too long to get back in to the action (and you have to remember the convoluted route back).

The map still doesn’t link up in any coherent way, so gaining one objective makes no difference to taking another.

In the quieter times it’s just too big and you can wonder around the map and not see an enemy at all.

Still prefer Alpine. Some of the vertical bits in the keeps in Deserted can be fun for fighting, but overall I’m still an Alpine fan.

Maybe next time the designers will involve some wvw players in design from the outset and design a map that works for wvw.

Maybe make every objective give a small bonus- so holding guard posts grants a 2% defence bonus, holding a camp gives a 2% attack bonus (for the next tick) so planning camp attacks etc could be strategic. Just a thought, needs careful weighing up.

‘Having to learn the mechanics’. Raids in this game remind me of watching lab rats in a maze, where if they get it right they are rewarded (and uses about as much intelligence).

Give me large scale pvp fights any day, where at least some thinking is involved on the fly if you want to be any good, rather than a great ‘raid’ consisting of performing the scripted dance exactly as planned with no room for deviation or improvement.

It would be nice to see an all around nerf in stats, removal of passive “life savers”, and a little more love to the players that can play berserker well. If we can get 1 shot, we should be able to AT LEAST two shot someone who can’t play the game all too well, not have to put up with dealing 1-2k crits, while receiving 4-7k crits.

Yes, give my staff ele a no cooldown 8k instant hit from stealth skill please with a venom added in to root the enemy in place….then I’d feel even more OP than I do now!

Normal people spammed the loot button every second anyway, the gains is really the daily and reward tracks.

Wasn’t that easy to spam F when as an ele I’m actually using skills and not just spamming ‘1’..as well as moving around the map a lot and jumping from spot to spot.

But yep, I’m not ‘normal’. Never have been:-)

It’s been especially nice in losing fights (you know, when you take on 3-4 times your number), where otherwise might miss out on quite a few bags, autoloot means not having to stare at that chest and wonder if that was the one that finally dropped a pre (or even an ascended item…).

As an ele I tend to be moving about a LOT, so until autoloot came in I didn’t realise just how many drops I was missing out on. Together with finally getting reward tracks (hooray!!) I am now actually covering the costs on my consumables (sorry, level 70 ones are not good enough) and making a small amount of gold from wvw- the 2 gold for completing the daily really helps too.

Thanks for finally bringing this welcome change in. Looking forward to when we revert to the old maps so I feel there is less running around and up and down and more action. Remember, biggest drawback in another MMO was the sheer size meant that returning to the action took way too long, breaking the immersion.

As a support/water ele I’m loving the change. Yes, I have been perma stunned and killed a couple of times by well co ordinated guild groups when my attention wonders but it’s also nice to be able to push in with the melee again.

Overall feels in a better place than it has been for a while. Still a lot of tweaks to be made but the little changes of fields have made them a lot easier to make out too, which is helping people see my water fields, etc – as I’m a non-ts player (for reasons:P) I have to time my fields based on what I see, and being able to see another water field already up makes my job a lot easier.

It would be nice for duellers to arrange to meet in one of the Deserted BL- for a start, they might not have to queue for hours to get in…but it’s entirely up to them. Many duellers duel for a bit then go back to roaming/capping sentries/camps so asking them to leave EB isn’t really doing yourself any favours.

There aren’t that many of them anyway- if 3-5 people makes all the difference to your side then I’d suggest you get better:-)

I tend to leave duellers well alone as does our zerg- as they tend to fight away from where we’re going, and don’t try and sneak in or follow us to scout, it’s a waste of time stopping to kill them. I’ll occasionally kill one if I know that five minutes ago they were double teaming our strays returning from spawn.

Huge Nerf to Defending Keeps/Towers

The real problem is the nublets that place normal ACs in the first place then expect them to be able to counter 15 players and cry when it doesn’t.

If you’re not placing superior siege then you deserve to lose.

Siege scaling on condi damage was obviuously a bug and I’m glad they finally are getting around to fixing it after 3 years of abuse.

Oh well, one less bit of fun throwing cows on my necro and watching all those pretty numbers…

Crafting is nothing but a gold transfer from WvW players to PvE players.

I would appreciate crafting more if it had some function in WvW. Like providing boosts, weapons, siege, upgrades for your entire team in WvW. While having the team war efforts to unlock materials for the crafting.

Again crafting food for profit is not a thing. You waste your time if you craft food for profit and you should be thankful that some people are wasting their time to craft food for you.
The profit for crafting the typical food is usually around 2s each and you cannot craft many at the same time without crashing the price.

As you can see there is only 2k of these sold per day in total. A grand total of 40g profit per day spread across the whole playerbase lol

Perfect argument for the case to make the vendor sell level 80 stuff.

No idea why they made it 70, let’s hope they get around to changing it before end of beta.

Maybe also add the hour versions of food…

Remove Rezing of dead players

It’s in a good place right now. There would be nothing more annoying as a squishy than to have to run all the way back from the WP after we win the fight with loot lying around (still no fix for autoloot, yawn..). Think of it as the spoils of war.

If you make it so no hard res at all, then we’ll have even more people afraid to have their pixels hurt and running away at the first sign of trouble – it’s already hard to persuade people to run in and attack siege etc if their pixels might take a scratch, this would just make it much more range and run than it already is.

Roamer - gonna miss desert bl

I hope it stays in the rotation going forward.

When HoT started, the clear issue with desert bl was low population (at least playing from NSP). This would have happened to alpine as well – everyone was doing elite specs and trying HoT content.

Currently, the desert bl tends to have some decent roaming fights, typically plenty of camps and towers to take, and pretty easily competed dailies – all by just going to an enemy bl and moving along the south edge of the map.

The scenery is nice, you can knock down a tower wall pretty quickly with a cata, and if you get into a lord fight in an enemy tower that’s a 2v2 you can get some pretty fun combat (there’s enough space to fight, and the lord attacks are meaningful sometimes).

Anyway, I hope that desert bl comes back frequently. I have fond memories of roaming on alpine, but I’ll really miss desert if we don’t see it again.

I can sympathize I will miss DBL. Have always enbraced change. Makes life more interesting. With the shrines there was always something to do for small parties. Will miss it all. Especially lich tower amd fire keep.

Missing all that pve stuff..you sure you want to play wvw?

I won’t miss them at all, if and when they finally get replaced by the trusty old Alpine maps.

Really what they need to do is have one EB and one border map – bigger and with a larger player number cap but made so that in order to cap A you must already hold B on the other side of the map (or something that splits the zerg into two zergs and needs some tactics).

Three BL is excessive except in peak time, so they should be working on a competition at the peak times that affects the score, involves wvw guilds having to co ordinate and generally makes for a better battle experience. Matched number instances- anything to liven it up a bit and make it worth logging in at peak time.

One Crash= Back of Q?

They are actually called Deserted Borderlands. Deserted, no one wants to play on them (except a few masochists). I don’t call running up and down some nicely designed pve maps never seeing another soul ‘fun’.

I’ve been on the same server forever- I’d like to be able to play after a crash not be forced to go do something else as the dodgy software decided to flake out on me and instead of relogging back to where I was it places me out and back of q.

Still not fixed this very annoying thing. Playing along quite happily having waited around for the q to pop, one hour or so later bang the game crashes. Now the q is 60 players.

End of playing GW2 for the day, as immersion totally lost and I have better things to do than wait an hour or more for the q to pop (by which time it’s time to cook…).

Other thing, still can’t switch classes once in (or even whilst waiting in q) which means you’re stuck once in, even if your side would benefit from a switch.

I used to run hybrid builds (or my own, as i’d call them) which worked very well for me, spread across multiple trait lines.

The dumbing down and restricting in to three traits destroyed all my builds (well, so did elites to be fair..) and made it a much less interesting game to play- hence why I’ve pretty much quit.

I’m not a fan of raid ‘mechanics’, timers, stupid one hit skills, circles, dps checks or enrage timers, or waiting hours not playing a game in my valuable spare time or waiting for a long time just to have some elitist quit after the first attempt, or twitch mechanics, etc. Or learning patterns. or areas without any sort of guide for first timers so they have a chance of what to expect without having to watch 20 hours of UTube videos from some twitch fanboy with a terrible taste in music showing how easy something is with 0 ping.

So I don’t raid. In my younger days I was heavily involved in all sorts of raids, leading guilds, organising 60-80 people for weekly pvp, etc but no longer have the endless time to dedicate to what is, after all, just a game.

I can understand the allure for those that do. It does lead to elitism and elitist guilds, but no one is forcing you to join them so it doesn’t really matter. Are they any better than you at other aspects of the game? Probably not. What they are good at is learning what works when and having the reactions and armor, etc along with a decent raid leader.

I don’t feel the need to raid any more. That level of stress for some meaningless pixels just doesn’t interest me any more. But if that’s you thing, then learn what the meta builds are, spend the money and time to get the build, learn the patterns and mechanics and away you go.

Tactivators alphine BL? Yes or No

DO I want to see tactics/npc/gimmicks/other garbage inserted in to Alpine? No.

Probably quite easy to figure out who spent money getting the right level of crafting to make these things, then check if they made anything else that benefited the guild, then refund 50% or something of the money to those that only made wvw stuff.

One minute of invuln is so OP and game breaking it’s not even funny- and for the weaker side trying to sneak an attack, it’s a killer.

What we need is for wvw to be recognised as it’s own game mode, and skills, etc balanced around that concept when you step into wvw, just like Guild Wars used to do for pvp. Until that happens, wvw will leak players who get fed up with cheese mechanics and the other rubbish inserted to make it more like pve than pvp.

Lower Arrow carts Damage by 35%

Nothing wrong with AC damage or people limits- learn to counter.

Open field siege is fun- all you need to counter it is a suicidal ele or two.

In fact, almost all cata spots can be attacked by suicidal eles.

What’s most annoying is watching people wave at catas from behind walls (as the wall gets killed) or wave at them in the field without making any attempt to damage them and then moaning about ‘OP siege’. It’s like they are scared if their toon takes damage they will be injured in real life….

What needs removing is guild/built banners and tactics, as they just favour rich guilds and the team currently dominating anyway.

I want to reiterate that everything we work on either ships in April or starts beta-testing on Live servers in April. We’re locking down dev work for the April release soon — next up is localization, QA, integration and regression testing — but we’ll extend the deadline for WvW skill balance.

Thought I might point out that they are shipping April and dev work has been locked down for that ‘soon’.

Not sure exactly what the purpose of this thread is if they have already done the work?

Perhaps rather than deleting every reply made along these lines the mods might want an informed debate.

I’m interested in finding out how these replies and thread fit in with the April timescale- I’ve made plenty of suggestions for improvements previously, but if this thread is another ‘CDI’ type thing (ie totally ignored and designed purely as a smokescreen) then people need to know rather than waste their time posting (and mod deleting many posts in an effort to manage the information flow as totally positive, which doesn’t give the devs or the boss a real picture of the feedback, just a managed outcome).

If not in April, when would they be looking at implementing the next big patch into wvw to address the many issues raised here?

KalasDelRio — As you could tell from Mike O’Brien’s comments in the AMA last week — synopsis here — there will be more communication and more meaningful communication. Yes, I believe there will be discussions with forum members as changes are being contemplated, although of course that will come from someone actively involved with the development of WvW.

Sviel — I would recommend hope. Yes, I’m naturally an optimist, but I believe there is true cause for hope, too.

iZakari — Agree, except “constant” and “continuously” may be difficult. If someone is talking about the game, they can’t be developing the game, and we all agree development is key. I’m thinking “frequent” or “regular” have a nice ring to them. Agree?

Baldrick — current information gathering enhances what the devs already have gleaned from their own gameplay, observation, tester input, and forum commentary. It’s not a new initiative. Devs are assigned to WvW, you can be assured of that. (Just as you can be assured that no one has ever spoken for me but me. I’m the same person who joined ArenaNet in 2000, and I’m the only one who uses this name. Whatcha think, I’m a made-up identity, a la Betty Crocker? )

Loosmater — Thanks for the faith. I will try to live up to that. I won’t be the person making the changes — and the devs of course are the important element of all this — but I will endeavour to help with the comms side of things!

I miss your appearances in Lions Arch- those were the days of real dev involvement and getting things done.

Define ‘assigned’. Does that mean they are working full time on wvw, or is it ‘assigned’ as in ‘when something really game breaking comes up, you’re on the list to deal with it (after priorities 1-20 on your list are done).’. from a wvw perspective, it certainly feels like the latter.

After all this time I have lost faith. Maybe by the end of the year you will surprise me and a new version of wvw will come out (but then, probably a paid for expansion…), but I’m not holding my breath.

Sorry but I’m a realist and can’t be more positive than that given the previous track record on wvw.

They have zero interest in what (we) the wvw players want, or they would have done it by now.

The only likely reader of this section is some bored intern whose job it is to summarise any really important bug issues to pass to an employee to add it to the list of ‘things that need fixing: wvw related: priority low’.

Remember they said reset would be moved ‘for a few weeks’ and alpine map would be in the rotation….

Do accounts have "luck", and is it right?

Short answer to the OP: yes. Some accounts are luckier than others. This is simply a function of the pseudo RNG used by the game- you will always get characters and accounts that seem ‘luckier’ than others- but in reality they are just coming up near the edges of the probability curve.

Of more interest is the extra chance of crafting a precursor if you don’t log in to the game on certain toons for a while- when you return to the game, they seem to have a better chance of getting ‘lucky’ than another account/toon that you use everyday. But again, this can simply be the outlier on the curve.

Personally I seemed to have one toon that was luckier than others at crafting precursors prior to H0T release, being my engineer. Since H0T, his ‘luck’ has deserted him and I have not managed to craft one on any toon.

Because it’s so low down the list of priorities. Currently it’s just below ‘fix Julie Nobrow’s left ear, it’s a micron off from left to right’.

There have been other threads about this: was going to be enabled for wvw, but then they decided they couldn’t be bothered so a horse rider or two were brought in to justify this.

I think it is an awesome addition to spice up the gameplay. You are attacking a castle….it’s not supposed to be easy stop complaining and work on improving your skill (stealth removers….COUGH COUGHHh).

I don’t get why you people complain about every little environmental thing in wvsw. Siege is kitten….walls are kitten…gates are kitten….guild upgrades are kitten….guards are kitten…lords are kitten. My god! You should be advocating for a new map/gamemode where it’s just TERRAIN AND PLAYERS. Absolutely no PVE whatsoever to pin you down. At that point you can just complain about cliffs and water….so then you can advocate for a flat terrain with nothing on it whatsoever! And then you’ll complain that it’s boring and too streamlined and handholding gamemode…..and you will want pve again.

Idk if you guys are serious or you are just trolling for kicks.

WvsW is pvp+pve. deal with it.

Im still laughing about the remembering “when people had to use their class abilities and work together as a team to fight the enemy”….

I laughed when i read your comments after deciding you weren’t being sarcastic, and actually think this and all the other pve additions to wvw that have driven off the majority of the playerbase are good ideas.

Keep thinking that as the wind blows the dust over what used to be a busy game mode.

Next thing they will bring in is some way of dropping in NPC allies so it looks like someone is still playing and to boost the numbers- crafting it in some awful huge guild crafting thing so it’s only available to the select few.

Yes it gets checked and they get banned, but you need to do your part and properly report the offenders via in-game report, and if some reason you are unable to select them to access the report feature, video record what the offender(s) are doing and send it in to exploits@arena.net with details such as what server you are on, what time and date you recorded the footage and what borderland it was on.

Dream on. Even if you happen to have video running 24/7 and happen to capture them on it, still nothing will be done for months if not years- and then they will just hop on to an alt account and start over.

Gave up reporting years ago as a complete waste of time as nothing ever came of multiple reports from hundreds of people.

But don’t stop believing, after all, the tooth fairy is real, right?

Here’s what you will get;

loads of pve
megaservers
dumbed down content so casuals can jump in and be teamed up
masteries wiped out or made so as to be useless so as not to impede the above
requirement for H0T
Lots of stuff that appeals to pve casuals and shiny chasers
Almost nothing that appeals to the real wvw crowd (that have all left anyway).
Some bad alliance system that will be gamed to hell by major guilds
More stuff only the biggest guilds can afford to do/get
Shinies. Lots of shinies. To pull in the AP hunters and shiny hunters.

Sadly the past is gone, with 80% of the wvw population.

I think you’re being conservative on 80% if you don’t count EoTM karma trainers and upscales..more like 95% of the original population (judging by my friends list of wvw players, hardly anyone ever logs in any more at all).

I can imagine a clever programmer doing exactly this, hundreds of small transactions every time leading to enormous profits as it runs 24/7.

Whether someone is actually doing it or not will never be admitted by Anet in any event, so it’s pure speculation.

But if someone was running one, this is the sort of thing they would target rather than any of the more obvious higher ticket items.
