So ultimately, under specific conditions that can be influenced by both defenders and attackers, defenders when inside their own area of the map will gain a significant advantage against a large number of builds.

This sounds like it’s balanced quite perfectly actually. If your team can’t be bothered to go take out the lava shrines, then you pay the price by allowing them a strong defensive advantage. Conversely, if they can’t be bothered to control their lava shrines, they don’t gain access to that defensive advantage.

I really don’t understand the complaints here. This just means you can’t blindfold yourself and roll your face across the keyboard hoping to accomplish things in wvw. You’ll actually have to use your head and figure out how to tactically assault various keeps.

If this quote sums the new system up, I don’t see an issue what so ever with it. If they’re immune to burning whilst in their area (fire keep), I dont see a problem with the other side having to send a havoc squad/second group round to defeat the fire temple or whatever it is.

Tactically speaking, the fire keep defenders (unless they are hugely outnumbered) can set up some defensive siege and defend the shrines, keeping their bonuses and nerfing the attackers damage.

Blanket immunity to a condition, or blanket causing of an effect (like stupid fractals burning that can’t be removed..but can be ignored by players that have a healing signet on, but uses other classes heal skill..) is bad design for a pvp area.

It looks more and more like a casual pve area with incidental pvp in it, affected by cap mechanics that most of us don’t want to play (look at BL bloodlust, see how many are held/defended, only time most are capped are when it’s in the daily rotation..) and that seems to have come from a pvp 3 cap map.

About time Anet said something on the matter too- feels like we’re being treated like third class citizens again with our ‘forum specialist’ having gone AWOL and nothing happening apart from the usual lock fest if anyone raises the point.

The population issue has more than one cause, but one of the main ones is poor rewards and totally stale gameplay, playing the same maps for three years.

Many wvw players have left the game after waiting and waiting and waiting for any movement from Anet- whether they come back with the new borderland map is debatable, I’m sure we’ll see a rush of pve’rs taking a look for a few months but after that…

Nothing wrong with necro atm- like almost anything else, if you know how to deal with them, they become easy to kill or deal with.

I love running my necro because teams will always start to try and focus me- at which point I will pull the fight away from the cap points and try and keep 2/3 enemies engaged on me for as long as possible, allowing my team to cap everything else and kill the other two enemies. I do the same thing on my mes. I don’t tend to top score, but I do have a lot of fun!

They’ll get around to fixing this about the same time as they fix retal, ie they don’t see it as an issue as the change is based on 5v5 and incoming revenant class.

So thinking they will change anything based on wvw is wishful thinking.

I saw at least a dozen people in the promo video all looking very shiny, with lots of acquired buffs from the 9 cap points and not a cc in sight..maybe the new map population limit is 12 a side? Although how they built that many trebs…

There isn’t a proper stress test with real players, which is why when it comes out you will find holes in the walls that people can port through, etc and that then take 2 years to be addressed, just like first time around.

I really wish they would develop these things using real wvw players to test at an early stage (and not just fanboys) and throughout the process, and then have an open beta testing so real stress can be put on it and bugs discovered and cleaned out before it goes live.

Tricare, you can run through naked against most pug zergs in EoTM and at least half of them won’t even notice you are there until they are either dead or downed.

Basically no one is even stripping your stab, half of them have little or no traits unlocked, etc etc.

Trying to test anything in EOTM is about as useful as a fart in a spacesuit..although in this case the fart is probably more use as it at least relieved some pressure build up..

Go try a gvg against proper players, or even form up in EB against a decent pug blob and see how it goes for you then, and come back and post a video (unedited).

New nerf to thief? Shadowstep shortcuts

You people dont seem to understand that stealth is broken as it is.
I understand that if u bomb aoe or spam guard staff 1 to a place thief is in stealth, ofcourse it hits
As i said Ranger longbow rapid fire. It still targets you if you are in stealth even if you dodge in stealth
Necro axe skill 2 ghastly claws still hits you 8 times even if you have stealthed before 1st hit and dodge it, rest of the hits will still be succesful.
So i think that doesnt count as survival does it?
Aswell as rangers see where the arrows go they know exactly where you are moving because they still have long skill that doesent lose target.
As i said it keeps target even if you have stealthed long ago before the first hit and dodge

Seriously, stop playing full zerk, learn to dodge RF (or learn to count so you can time a dodge at the start of it), and ghostly claws can’t hit if they are blinded, stunned, or a variety of other ways to mitigate damage against you.

I hardly ever use shadowstep on my thief and survive just fine.

As for moving to places others cannot reach, glad they finally got around to fixing this, now the skill is working as intended.

I very much doubt the consideration for wvw regarding any change is much more than ’what’s wvw?’.

The New WvW Borderland

Excellent, a combination of pve, npc bosses, jump puzzle, an event every 3 hours that ends with being able to open every enemy gate on the map, wind that blows you off ledges if your not a guard, npc turrets, huge numbers of ledges to fire AC’s from that you won’t be able to touch. Add in removal of the current map meaning there is still only one BL map (are they still keeping three identical copies of this new one?).

I loved seeing all those trebs up, and the defence trebs not firing at them, and the players still running around in front of the trebs (why? they seemed to think dying while waiting for the trebs to take down the wall was preferable to dying of boredom from siege wars?)

Oh and wait for it..NINE cap points to gain attributes from, hooray for being outnumbered. Oasis event for making sure it’s easier for the big blob to open all your towers.

Personally I’m loving the look of those walkways, couple of sup ballista on the end of those, couple of necros to strip stab boons and fear anyone else off that survived the ballys, send me those loot bags!

Sounds perfect. If this doesn’t make more people play their beloved spvp, nothing will.

So should we go clockwise or counterclockwise for the karma train ( as long as rewards are better than EoTM, otherwise may as well carry on training there).

So when they start designing and testing the next wvw map in 3 years time, any chance some (probably ex-) wvw players, groups, roamers and guilds from various tiers could help in the development and testing of it..because this map looks more like some devs xxx xxxxx (censored) than something that was designed with any player input or real wvw mechanics in mind.

Judging by the increase in numbers that are now in pvp, I’d say that having the dailies include pvp has encouraged huge numbers in to pvp.

The fact that wvw is so stale has also encourage people into pvp, as well as server inbalances, lower tiers being totally dead, etc.

Pvp gets paid tournaments, advertising, etc etc , whereas gvg has been spurned completely by the devs (Obsid is a joke area, thrown as a bone so they could say ‘hey look, we made an area’, which is complete useless as a proper gvg arena).

GvG used to be more popular, but the complete lack of support for the game mode has slowly killed it off. If they had spent the same amount of time and resources on gvg as they have done to spvp then gvg would be hugely popular- guild vs guild fights have always been popular (see gw1) in many other games . I used to run a big guild that did 80vs 80 battles and people used to look forward to the fights all week.

Sadly Anet have shown no interest in gvg and by now it’s probably too late, they have cast their lot in with spvp and to change direction now would be both expensive and involve too much loss of face for them to even consier it.

It’s a shame, as decent gvg would have retained so many of the players that have now left the game (including huge numbers of potential pvp players).

What if mobs weren't to drop loot?

I would actually prefer that (most) loot be tied to successfully completing events rather than killing mobs. Not only does it help counter the zerg/blob mentality, it allows Anet to design more interesting encounters and events.

VodCom makes a good point about dungeons, however.

Actually having all loot tied to events encourages afking (see other topics) and event skipping, as well as playing in a zerg (to kill whatever boss event spawns faster). This is perfectly demonstrated by Sw, with taxis to maps that are almost ready to pop the final event chain (where other people have spent all their efforts completing the lead up events to fill the bar whilst loads of people just afk).

Run up, tag a mob, run off (or go stand in a corner upping scale but not contributing), tag another event, do it in a group to increase tagging. As mobs don’t drop loot in your scenario, no point in helping kill the rest of them (sorry you died to those mobs, but why should we bother to help you, they don’t drop anything and we’re busy afking…)

A much better design would be for each event mob to drop a token, and for the number of tokens you collect to reflect your final reward from the whole chain as well as from each event. Applying this to SW would stop the lazy taxis and encourage people to actually help build the bar rather than just jump in a reap rewards before taxing to the next map that’s need almost done by others.

AFKers The Plague

As a Ranger I can sit AFK in a heavily farmed event spot, and know that when the event starts, my pet WILL tag an enemy, and give me credit for the event and it’s reward. I do this occasionally in Dry Top (next to the inquest race event), this way my pet can tag the race, haze, and the dust tornado. I don’t set any macros to use a heal or it anything, but it seems that with the pet attacking, people reviving you when you’re downed or dead, and the devourers fearing you, sometimes you can stay on for hours and get upwards of 10+ reward chests. I frequently see rangers that use the heal macro to stay logged in.

If there was an easier way to grind geodes, I’d do it, but the amount you need to buy all the ambrite weapon skins + the ridiculously low drop rate of fossilized insects, if I can AFK and still make progress, I will. Ultimately, me afking has an extremely low effect on the outcome of the events due to the amount of people that will be doing them anyways.

And therein lies the problem ‘me afking has an extremely low effect’ and ‘other people will be doing them’.

Your leeching from the efforts of others, whilst at the same time making it harder for them to complete whatever the event is, but you seem to think this is somehow OK.

Imagine if everyone thought the same as you: 100 people all afk assuming someone else will do the work whilst the other 99 wait for ‘other people’ to do the event.

I’d like them to introduce dynamic spawning so that if you stand still for 30 seconds (don’t care if you’re casting a heal or whatever) then a teragriff spawns on top on you and attacks only you until you kill it. If you die it despawns and you lose all contribution to that map and receive no rewards from any event on the map for the next 30 minutes.

Maybe then all those mentioning ‘toilet breaks’ will learn to waypoint to the safe areas before wondering off- after all if RL gets in the way it takes less than one second to waypoint.

Anet won’t do anything about it, they have decided 5v5 is where they put their money, and since the new dailies there are a lot more pve’rs doing 5v5 (where it’s faster and easier to complete the dailies) than wvw where the dailies can take quite a while.

If you’ve ever listened to the completely over the top commentators for the 5v5 you’ll realise who Anet are targetting…and it’s not your average wvw player.

Unless you know him in real life you have nothing to base an opinion on whether he is a nice guy or a raving axe murderer, as either could be the person doing a shiny stream of himself playing and being watched by ‘fans’..I guess when we grew up we had sporting or other heroes we would watch, nowadays some people watch people doing virtual things, c’est la vie.

Whether he was enticed in some way to play for a while will never be discovered, rather like whether certain reviewers of products on U-tube are ‘paid’ to give favourable reviews, etc but claim to be completely independent.

If you enjoy watching someone else play then good luck to you. If it influences your decision as to whether to take up a game, then it’s like any other form of advertising.

A few days ago I saw blue stream gw2, I have no idea is Blue gonna stream gw2 in the future or not. I mean if we can get blue and soda stream gw2 at same time, we can get twitch NO1 in no time. Anet really should get in contact with Blue, not to pay him or anything, just talk about pvp portion because he seems to be interested in that.

what’s nightblue? a new dye? does it have to be diluted in a stream of soda in order to work? What’s twitch and why are you interested in its nitrogen monoxide emissions?

Thiefs have learned Spell- they now go around in groups of three with a mes and a guard or d/d ele as well so when they start to feel the pressure the next one can gank you, then feel proud that 5 of them in full roaming specs managed to down someone with no roaming spec…or all hide in stealth if one of them hurts a nail.

It’s ok though, as it makes it more enjoyable wiping them from the face of the earth if they try and pop up in our support classes during fights..use lb1 on some enemy squishy waiting for thief to pop next to one of our eles, he pops up and bam! two/three burst skills from a couple of waiting rangers and the cheese mechanic no armor macro user is toast:-)

Rangers are fine the way they are, apart from the broken pets.

Maybe if they gave cast time to thief skills so you can’t just macro 6 skills in 0.02 of a second it would make things better. I’m constantly amused by my combat log on a staff ele that in the one full second (it’s actually longer) for my staff auto attack to go sailing off to miss the by now stealthed and 2000 ranged away thief that there is a huge pile of numbers from the other player.

As for ‘get more armor’ posts, it doesn’t matter how much you have on a medium or light armor build, burst thief will still hit you for 5-6k per skill whilst your standing like a stone.

Thief class mechanics are broken but it’s not clear how you would fix them without losing the whole flavour of the class.

I’m playing a condi build in pvp and it’s just funny how easy it is to mitigate damage, avoid players and escape if things start going pear shaped…whilst doing more condi damage than most necros and having almost as much armor as a guard.

This and many other issues have been mentioned since day one, nothing has changed. Learn not to hold your breath on these things.

NO. Here’s why. Some guild will just get their raid together and spawn camp, meaning one less day of wvw for most of the casuals.

Much better idea would be to implement some real gvg maps and get a ladder going for 10v10, 15v15, 20v20.

Movement speed problems - an easy solution

Guard: run with staff 3, swap weapon before you reach where you need to be (if you’re not spamming 1 anyway).

Necro- signet, can even use it all the time, horn, but as soon as you hit anything with locust it fails.

Mesmer- signet, blink, traveller runes.

Never really had a problem with out of combat movement speed on any of them.

In open field zerg battles I enjoy playing either ranger (lb/gs) or necro if I want to play positional damage, or staff ele when needed (depends how we’re doing). Necro gets me WAY more bags, tagging seems to work on a par with guards. Ele seems to fail to tag on the same scale, although it appears I do similar damage.

Roaming these days you tend to run into 3thief/one mes/one guard groups rather than any solos at all…which i don’t mind on the ele as i can get away/survive long enough, but pretty much toast on the other two.

As it is, I feel rangers are about right in wvw now, apart from the stupidly long cast times on pet skills and the fact that pets and zergs don’t mix. If they came up with an option to stow your pet for ten minutes which granted you 10% damage increase and converted the condition removal skill so it still worked without a pet, they might even be fun (10 minute fixed timer, so no popping it in and out in that time).

Retaliation - once per sec

Hi there!
How about to make a limit for retaliation? Let it can hit the same target only once per second?
Or let it will be affected by Toughness and Armor
Or let it will scales up from Condition damage (since it ignoring armor, like any another conditions), but not from Power.

Because it really sucks while playing with multi-hit-per-second classes, for example Flamethrower/Grenade Engineer. You are able to literally kill yourself in 2-3 seconds only using your own offensive skills and even not being hit by enemies!

. Get some people set up to strip boons and have them synchronize use of them just a bit. Time your burst to right after the strippers (formal title) rip the prot and retal stacks down.

In the meantime, get some thieves and rangers coordinating into guardian kill squads. Kill all guardians. Kill all mesmers too. But guardians especially.

, not have the matter dumbed down so you don’t have to try anymore.

Good luck stripping all those boons- we’ve tried to strip boons off a zerg and until there are no players left standing it’s almost impossible. By the time you have stripped off retal the fight is over, in the meantime you did nothing? what tends to happen in even fights is the strippers/converters balance each other out and the net effect is 4-5 boons up along with 2-3 usually minor conditions. Boon stripping and conversion can’t keep up with boon generation (unless your playing mindless zombies).

Targeting guards with your thiefs and rangers? Attacking the heaviest class while their necros and eles have a free go at healing them? Throwing a thief in to the path of the melee train? Sounds great, thanks for the bags when you try it. Wall of reflection anyone? There’s a reason thiefs and rangers are tasked with killing eles and necros..

As for dumbing down, retal is the ultimate dumbed down boon, it is takes no skill to get, keep, and automatically targets any damager and does huge damage to lower armor classes without you having to do any targetting at all.

Retaliation - once per sec

I am playing warrior, guardian, ele and thief in wvw.
I don’t see a problem with retaliation at all, I got self heals, got blasts from waters, got positioning, and I press button to attack, it’s not on autoattack.

Never have I seen problem with retaliation in any part of a game

Congratulations, you have avoided the classes that suffer most from retaliation whilst playing two that can completely ignore it (guard and warrior in zerg), one that can eat it (switch to water, healed, thanks) and one huge spike hitter (retal, what’s that?).

Retal affects the other classes, which is another reason why you see so few of them in wvw.

Once per second would seem an easy solution, which doesn’t nerf the skill into the ground whilst curing the current issue.

As to any argument that ‘but you hit multiple players with your skill, blah blah’ so do all the water fields you are running through, etc , but they don’t cause you auto damage of 300-400.

Sadly the devs don’t base anything on wvw, so there is no chance of any change, as retal isn’t really an issue in pve or pvp.

Don't Release Updates in Prime Time

Just a thought, but most other games have learnt to release updates, patches, etc at quieter times so it doesn’t crash and take the forums along with it.

5.30pm isn’t a good time to release new content.

I know you base the updates on US time but try and think of your EU customer base too, and maybe we can avoid the problems experienced today.

Double Standards in WvW

My favourite is thiefs who try and burst you, fail, either die or run away, and in either case come back with 2-3 other thiefs, a mes and an ele to kill you, THEN whisper calling your build ‘noob’. Makes me laugh every time.

Earning Gems through PvP~

Not going to happen. At least it’s more likely to happen then any sort of actual reward for winning a wvw match up (apart from the 6 extra greens..after you hit 3 more wvw ranks to qualify for them..), or defending something in wvw, or helping to cap a tower or keep but missing out on getting anything as you didn’t get a hit on the champ or inside the ring in time.

At least you get rewards in pvp. And more of them. And more frequently.

Why does ANet continue to push PVE when most of us PVP?

Just imagine how all of that PVE development money could have spent on the content that matters to most of us.

Depends on who you are talking about when you say ‘us’.

Ask Anet for the metrics (before they brought in pvp class based dailies) of how many players play pve, then wvw, and way in the distance third, pvp.

If they had bothered to ask what would bring more players in to pvp, they might have found HoH, GvG, aspenwood, etc were people’s favourites- this 5 man, 3 cap point formula gets old real fast.

If anybody picked the Legendary Crafting Materials chest, I’d love to know how many Obsidian Shards and Mystic Clovers you got out of it for data collection purposes.

Speaking for myself, I’m going to take the Ascended Materials chest this first time (because I need a spare Vision Crystal for Light of Dwayna), but subsequently I’ll always go with the Laurels chest unless I need more Vision Crystals.

Just eat them, or throw them out. Don’t even see the need to start a thread on it- this is a bit like complaining that you have too much copper in your bank when it reaches your limit after farming starter zones for weeks.

Put me up against a ranger any day rather than a disappearing, teleporting around the map, venom using thief (or usually two or three of them at the same time these days). Unless you are completely asleep you can dodge at least half the damage from RF, but when a thief pops up on top of you insta- immob, 5 skills in a fraction of a second (no cooldowns on skills), 6-7k damage from one skill insta hit despite 1800 toughness along with a pile of conditions and 4 other hits then poof they disappear again, tell me again what’s OP about RF? Meantime you might just about be able to cast half a fireball doing 600 damage….

Maybe if RF made you invuln or teleported you 10 yards left whilst stealthing you it might be considered OP, but as it is it’s just fine. There are so many ways to counter it on so many classes.

As for other classes having to do multiple things to get their burst, I guess having to press ‘steal’ to teleport then mashing 4 buttons (or the one keybind for the macro) to output 2-3 times the total damage from the 2.5 second RF….

I love facing RF rangers, especially on my own ranger, as has been said- close the gap and most will panic (and be made of glass). Thief on the other hand, if they can’t insta-down you will disappear and come back with at least another thief and maybe two.

Porting 2100 or 2400 range on a thief is instant- thief uses IA, steal and you’re immob while the thief dumps on you- good luck firing off RF while you can’t even move.

Apparently mentioning the serious flaw of two of 4 ‘pve’ being fractals and asking for them to redesign the selections so this doesn’t occur again was ‘unconstructive criticism’ and the entire thread was removed. Ostrich syndrome- bury head in sand and pretend hard enough and the problem will go away?

There’s nothing ‘unconstructive’ about pointing it out and asking for it to be altered. Why is 21-30 level fractals even in the rotation at all?

Maybe ‘krall’ got a ban for charging his white horse once too often in a biult up area and had to switch accounts:-)

We got the usual ’we’re looking at it’ response, then nothing.

Luckily they haven’t altered rewards in other aspects of the game either, like spvp, tournaments with prizes, pve areas that drop loot and events like candy, otherwise it would seem like wvw is the forgotten one….oh wait…

As I main a ranger (or staff ele, or necro) in wvw, when I’m on my other classes it’s so easy to avoid rf it’s just not funny- just move sideways, dodge, or use a block.

RF rangers in random pvp or just great to come across on most classes as most of the maps mean you can just duck behind something (or play mes and bring the shiny bubble, watch them kill themselves fast).

I’ve met many thiefs that can avoid it completely (but then get a nice surprise when they steal and hit whacked by my GS).

RF ranger isn’t OP- but it is fun to pick off players who aren’t used to being penalised for being out of position.

Population Fix - WvW Megaserver System

So under your idea, a ‘raid leader’ can drag up to 25 people in to an already full map, hence having numerical superiority?

Or just organise 3 or 4 raid leaders in one map, who then pull everyone in?

Just asking how you think that will work…

Personally I’d be against any sort of megaserver or guild led solution to wvw.

One large, scalable map would be one solution, or have the main map as an expanded eb type map and then have 2-3 hour maps as an add on to the score where only player kills count and are very much based on ‘fort aspenwood’ type maps where capping and holding points award bonuses (but no siege, thanks!).

Sadly the servers can’t support sufficient numbers to give us what the game mode should be, but a start would be making it so no tower can be breached in under 5 minutes allowing proper defence to be organised, and granting bonuses to players the fewer players and objects they own on a map the better the bonus (like the bonuses for gw1).

The solution is not to fight them, especially if you are playing as a mediguard, which is not a very good roaming build. Not every class/build can cope with every other.
