@nightblood:
No, I don’t believe they will add additional stats to gear. The gear will simply become more powerful (the gear attributes get stronger). So a 00266 Zerker Ele (who actually become a ‘00666’ Zerker Ele) would have significantly less HP and Healing Power than she has now. Toughness would be a bit more even. But she would also have significantly more Power, Crit Chance and Crit Damage than now.So why not give up some of the extra offensive stats gained for some defensive gear? There, “problem” (it wasn’t a problem to begin with, just a new meta) solved. No need to streamline all gear with more attributes.
The only obstacle I see is that ppl might have to reinvest in new gear. Hopefully ANet will offer something for WvW players in this regard, especially getting expensive runes out of your WvW gear would be appreciated by the community, I believe.
Dream on. the last thing they even consider is wvw, the chances of them making a major change like making it possible to remove runes from the 20+ armor sets I use for wvw when current builds become useless is precisely zero. OK, not all of them are wvw sets, but you get the point.
May as well wish for something to do with all those badges, or even funnier hope they fix the wvw achievements…
This arises due to the lack of trinity- which if it existed, the comm would be pre prottted before the battle and focusing him would be a complete waste of time.
Instead we have the blind following of the dorito and chaos as soon as the driver dies- which shows how much like headless chickens wvw is and how dependent on one focus combat in wvw is.
As for sniping the enemy comm, best tactic there is- anyone saying it is ‘dishonourable’ is talking out of their backside, in a real war no comm would be dumb enough to either be so easily spotted or be out front all the time.
As for spotted by rank, then if you want to lead roll a new toon on a new account and hey presto, no longer highest ranked toon running around.
Oh, and stop using the ghost tonic- it just makes it easier to spot you.
Any buff to the comm would be abused.
Besides, why even bring it up, it’s not like they ever change anything in wvw anyway…
I’m glad there is no gear treadmill and it’s possible without spending huge amounts of gold to make ascended armor for all my 20 characters…..oh wait, it’s time gated.
Never mind, as the game is designed for casual single toon players, there’s no grind involved!
Oh dear, one less person eligible to become the next wvw form specialist then!
Basically grind/time gating at it’s finest. Glad there’s no grind in this game then….
It’s to give the illusion that players opinions matter when really all they are testing is whether the whole thing runs with real players. At this late stage in development there won’t be any major changes and it’s more of a marketing ploy than an actual test.
I guess they didn’t want to listen to wvw players asking for changes this late in the design process, and it’s going the way of the ‘testing changes’ before implementation.
My guess is they assign people the same way lawyers get seconded to legal aid for six months- no one really wants to do it, they cherry pick what they want to do, and anything difficult or time consuming isn’t ever dealt with- hence why wvw development is next to non-existent.
Which is the real shame- they had something that could have been epic but instead chose cheese cutter cookie build spvp to focus on… Anyone ever tried listening to the screaming children that do the ‘commentary’ during one of those matches? It’s no wonder they need to spend millions promoting it and giving away huge prize money.
If only they had focused on guild battles- 10v10 on some proper battlefields would have been truly awesome to watch and devise tactics for.
I’m glad they’re being removed. I hope food is next.
Yes! Let’s make it into a larger version of cookie cutter spvp builds! Remove ascended armor and legendaries from wvw.
Better yet, make it so when you enter wvw you can only play one pre built class with ZERO build variation allowed!
You know people are going nuts over this, They clearly said in one of the beginning introductions of the new maps for WvW, there will be objectives to take that give buffs to the server who holds them.
Yep, they are replacing something that was relevant with a pve section to obtain server buffs, and a massive pve section which ends in one server getting free gate destruction.
Sounds great- eliminates the need for players, which is just as well seeing as there are so few left playing wvw these days:-)
The whole thing points to a ‘dumbing down’ of build choices much more like spvp (for easier balancing within pvp).
Stats gained from traits added hugely to build diversity- without them it’s going to be much more cookie cutter builds and more and more like totally bland spvp.
Of course, ascended will become much more important due to more base stats on armor, and that means I get to not only redo entire builds but also work out how many sets of the time gated ascended gear I will have to redo to get the stats I have lost.
Or maybe I just won’t bother (playing).
The Applied Fortitude and Applied Strength effects have been removed.
Thee goes my build…thanks, great ‘improvements’ by dumbing it all down.
Problem with adding things for ranks is that it rewards the eotm karma trainers more than regular WvW players.
Problem with not adding rewards is no one feels rewarded, but honestly they could easily nerf the amount of wxp available from objectives in EOTM if they were to go with a reward system like I suggested.
Sadly EoTM made the rank system a joke, with completely clueless people who wouldn’t know what a skill is being rank 3000+ while someone could play for years in wvw and not get to 500.
I like the idea of reward tracks but again, these would only work if rewards are shared across the battlefield so that you defenders are rewarded too, not just the usual spam 1 suspects- but how to do that without the inevitable leechers?
I don’t think Anet know how to solve this problem, so they won’t waste the resources – we’ve already seen the latest patch and how that screwed up wvw for a couple of days and apparently still has issues (which have been moved to the bugs section, never to be read)- and that was for a patch which had nothing to do with wvw.
Putting each in their own thread gives anyone a chance to see, much more clearly, that the issue is there.
Did you miss the part where Chris, the dev, said to post any other issues in that specific thread so he could address them? Why would you do exactly the opposite? Also, nobody uses the built in search engine on this forum because it doesn’t work. Try “site:forum-en.guildwars2.com whateveryou’relookingfor” in google next time.
I predict Ark will be the new wvw forum ‘specialist’. I think they should get a special sig that contains a white knight:-)
Did i say mean thieves? i say thieves are as good as rangers just alot of thieves have no idea of their enemy skills thats has nothing to do with how overpowered rangers are. if a thief teleports to me i change to greatsword turn around and hit 9-10k dmg with Maul on him i cant disagree saying that isnt Op but on same time ranger is the only class i ever played in 2 years of GW2 so i really like to master it
That’s the thief that just stunned and rooted you so you cannot move or use any skills at all while their macro unloads everything in their combo in 0.25 seconds and then disappears with you at 25% hp?
Good to hear you can magically instantly remove all those and be able to switch weapons and use maul all in that .25 seconds (if you can even see anything and the server isn’t laggy and you have a decent ping).
Not to mention his venom sharing buddies and taking turns stealthing and healing each other…
That there are so few posters tells you a lot about the general level of apathy that wvw players now have. ‘oh look it’s broken’, oh well, we know we’re bottom of the pile so the general level of expectation is that it might be fixed ‘soon’.
I’m sure if it was a spvp problem it would have been resolved by now. Oh look, they fixed the spvp problem already..
Maybe someday they will explain why they think it’s a good idea to redraw LA so it’s half fixed instead of spending a little time making it into a week long event that ends up with a magic spell being cast that reverts it to the former glory, that we could all have enjoyed- just seems a waste of drawing time otherwise.
It’s wvw- no testing involved.
Maybe next week someone will notice the emails from our white knights and get a dev to take a look, then a fix will be made which includes reducing map population cap further, so that only 3 players can be on it at a time- one from each server:-)
I play ranger quite a lot.
What we need is for us to become invincible as soon as RF starts and then stealth us when it finishes for 3-7 seconds, removing all conditions and healing for half our stealth..oh wait, thief does that already (almost).
Rangers are easy to beat, just learn what type you are facing and learn to counter instead of coming on forums and trying to argue a skill is broken, when the real broken thing is stealth without penalty.
Living World needs to be classed as a ‘paid expansion’ now as you have to pay for access if you happened to have a life while any of it was released, or if you are new player to the game.
What we’ve had so far is drip fed mini content that is now gated, ascended stuff that is time gated (and grindy)- I wonder what direction we’re going next…
Let’s make it simple- as soon as you stealth, RF ends and you immediately take all the damage from the full channel.. There, now it’s fixed. Now you might have to learn to dodge instead of using a stupid mechanic in a game that is totally one sided in favour of the thief.
Wait, you don’t like a skill that now acts more like your OP backstab skill?
The sky is always blue.
‘What about that cloud’?
The sky is always blue, apart form that cloud.
‘What about those clouds?’
The sky is always blue except for those clouds.
‘What about when it;s raining and I see no blue sky?’
The sky is always blue, the clouds don’t alter this fact in any way, shape or form.
Hi Ho Silver, away!
Easy way to stress test it is to replace all four maps with it on reset night on all tiers, then see how it goes.
Picking and choosing ‘players’ isn’t going to give a good selection to find the real problems, as was shown when the ‘closed’ testing of EOTM took place and then most suggestions were ignored anyway.
I do wonder why people post these sorts of things- as it’s been very clear for years that the devs that no interest in wvw apart from throwing out the odd bone.
Just doing a quick check- where did Eagle Eye go for Rangers? No more range increase for rangers?
I might have to do a complete check and see if any of my builds have survived at all under this new system of restricted choices and limited trait lines.
Keep in mind that many traits were combined and that some traits have become baseline. For example, the Elementalist trait blasting staff is now the default. The same goes for Eagle Eye (at least according to Dulfy: http://dulfy.net/2015/04/25/gw2-core-specializations/#Ranger).
Thanks.
I love this for a GM trait:
Your pet heals allies in an area when executing a command [F2] ability.
Are they speeding up all F2 abilities? Making pets actually be able to finish casting one before they die in wvw?
Sounds like typical 5 man design thoughts with no thought as to what will happen in wvw at all.
I’ll spell it out for the devs: pets die before they can finish casting. Players can move 50 yards by the time they finish casting. Most F2 skills are attacks- pretty useless to heal next to a pile of enemies. Hell, I can be standing next to my pet, press f2, and by the time it finishes it’s regen skill I’m so far out of range it may as well be back in our keep for all the use it is.
Any news on making pets viable in wvw, or will it be ignored in favour of the spvp ‘e-sport’ (lol).
Just doing a quick check- where did Eagle Eye go for Rangers? No more range increase for rangers?
I might have to do a complete check and see if any of my builds have survived at all under this new system of restricted choices and limited trait lines.
Simple answer to the Op: because there is nothing better to do – I have a pile of 80’s, and it’s mainly so I can play a different build without having to reset all traits, attributes, etc as GW2 lacks one thing above all else:
build templates.
Existed in GW1, and made life easy, especially as you could link and share them, instead of changing a good build to try something else, playing another toon for a few weeks, and trying to find the scrap of paper you wrote down the triat lines on…
I’ve recently gone back to it – at first it was to unlock HoM, but I’ve joined a guild and an alliance and there are still plenty of players around doing various things.
You won’t see many people hanging around apart from in Kamadan (and a few in LA)- most parties are formed in Guild Halls. Think of it as a bit like wondering around a level 40 map in GW2 when it’s not on the daily- you can do an entire map and not see another soul.
As for taking months to finish- I’ve just completed Nightfall in a week and I wasn’t even trying very hard, from scratch. New toon, new heroes, new account, everything.
It’s a refreshing change to have to think of builds to use, set ups, heroes, pulling, etc instead of ‘oh look a mega boss press 1 pres 1 press 1 dodge instant death skill press 1 press 1 collect loot’ that sums up most of GW2’s ‘end game content’.
Not tried the pvp areas but they are pretty quiet now as they had been invaded by bots – if GW2 could have brought over more of the build diversity that exists in gw1 then pvp could have been awesome. As it is GW2 pvp is either 5 man yawn or blob blob and pvd…which can be fun, but just doesn’t have the same feel of tactics that gvg had in gw1.
Buy it- it’s cheap now, and join a guild- there are usually some that will take you on, just lf guild in Kamadan (US district 1).
OP, you can fine tune just fine in pvp- it’s called wvw:-)
Why they made it totally restricted in spvp will forever remain one of those questions- although looking at how they are restricting trait lines next, it looks like GW was the apex of flexibility (and save templates) and GW2 is working on being the ultimate cookie cutter build choice game.
They had it in Guild Wars, and it’s very useful where there were so many viable builds and skills.
Sadly one of the better features didn’t get carried over- why not is anyone’s guess, maybe it’s the lack of build diversity or the restrictions on the number of skills that made them think it wasn’t worth the effort.
I run a lot of builds that depend on more than 3 trait lines, as well as use 2 major instead of one major one master, and the new system won’t cater for it.
I’ll wait and see what new traits and weapons etc they add to see whether it suits my play style and whether I just move to whatever is the new ‘meta’ build or continue to use my own.
Having stats shoved onto armor/weapons will make it interesting to see how those stats come out and how they interact with the new trait choices.
Is it like forum specialists, where they have to be USA resident?
If you’re not grinding in silverwastes, you’re just not playing the game right!
Please revert the maps back to their original caps.
No no!
- It’s still very laggy
- 90% of all server are still not able to fill all 4 maps in prime
Reduce the map-cap even more!
I am not having much of an issue with lag. Raise that cap up.
I’m glad the game exists purely to satisfy your requirements…
Lowering the cap is such a cop out though, when they should be working on designing maps that include even more players and make it strategically impossible for one mega blob to win.
Since that’s not going to happen, I guess we’re going to be stuck with dwindling numbers and lower caps along with more outmanned as the wvw population dwindles even more.
Sounds like exactly the sort of thing I never have a chance at- particularly as I won’t be logging in to GW2 much if at all this week (doing stuff on GW- all those skills!).
Good luck and I hope they make it a staggered release of tickets not ‘most grind, most served’.
I don’t think a single player should be able to tag a keep- or even 5. Tagging should be based on damage to the structure, so when 1% damage is caused (ie siege or significant numbers) then the keep becomes tagged.
The current ‘throw a rotten tomato and it’s tagged’ system makes no sense, as one to 4 players would take ages to get a gate down and should safely be ignored by the mechanics.
Realistically one person running up to a keep gate should be wiped out by the guards before they even get close to touching the gate- and even if they hit the gate, why would anyone care enough to turn off the portal?
Given the nature of the position and the feedback from the other forum specialists, I think either krall or coglin would be the ideal choice, as long as they promise to report on progress on a weekly basis, including feedback from Anet on all reports and progress towards resolving issues:-)
More squishy targets in the ‘new meta’, what’s not to like?
Ok, I admit it, I’ve always prefered playing ranged classes and only play guard when the lag is too bad to play anything else.
It’s not ‘100% a player base caused issue’. The gaps are there because there are too many servers for the number of players that actively take part in the neglected wvw form of the game, which leads to transfers to busier servers which leads to more disparity between servers. The neglect of the game mode isn’t the player’s fault- Anet made the decision to promote spvp over wvw and that’s where the resources went. leaving wvw to stagnate with bad rewards, bugs, hacks and a terrible achievement system that is laughable if it wasn’t for the fact it has still not been changed after 3 YEARS.
Might be interesting to compare %ages of populations that play wvw now as compared to 3 years ago.
It’s no real surprise that people would rather play on a server that has a good active wvw population, rather than sit on a totally green map all night in the hope a roamer might decide to play for the other server for 5 minutes and let you add one kill for your 5 hours of game time (that you hoped would be fun).
Just delete it, it’s like having too much of anything that isn’t tradable or sellable. 18k AP and 453 laurels, grats.
at nights , home borders should have maximum 40 men each side . night blob-bombing against outnumbered servers has as result of furstation of the defenders .
eb is more than enough as map to have 80 men each side all the times .
40 isn’t enough- that’s only two 20 man guild teams.
Maybe the solution would be to have different maximums for different tiers.
The real solution to unbalanced matchups would be to make it worthwhile for the rest of the server population to want to do it….
19. Learn to use aoe heals intelligently. I see too many rangers stand away from doors and NEVER use that shiny waterfield and blast to heal the poor guys on the rams when you don’t have enough eles to keep up water fields- what’s so hard about running in, cast healing spring, blast with horn 5, run back again?
20. When playing thief, bring along at least two more and a d/d ele or mesmer and only ever attack when you’re 4v1 or at most 4v2. Or is that only on the servers I face?:-)
21. Learn what works for you. At the moment I’m mainly playing mesmer without a portal or a veil in sight:p
There really is absolutely nothing we can do as forum specialists that you can do as players. The only thing we have that is different is an email that we can send a .doc(x) file to them in the format they want with the threads and summary of each thread.
We do not:
-Get Feedback from the reports
-Responses from the reports
-ETAs on fixes/ updates from reports
-Content noticesNothing lol
Not really defending him but hes probably in the same funk as a couple other forum specialists to where he has reported pretty much everything that has been suggested and doesn’t see the point in reporting without some type of feed back besides “Hey this topic was brought up already and reported”
Working as intended. You get to take the flack as an unpaid volunteer while the paid employees can safely ignore everything the players say and continue with whatever project they are working on. At least after 6 months they will promote the whole idea again and for a brief moment people will think it might change that time, before we’re back to this again.
Well I checked deso q at the same time last night as SFR- deso had a 40 q for Gandara and no q for other maps, SFR had 30 q for eb, and between 10 and 25 for the other maps. deso don’t have SFR this week so no stack on SFR home bl.
When I finally got into SFR home BL we had around 30 people walking around garri or just standing there with tags I’ve never seen, whilst the enemy had two groups of around 30ish merrily capping towers and we had maybe 5-10 following the pug comm.
Q on one map was purely for gvg’s.
It’s generally later on that the q’s disappear and the blob gets bigger on both sides. prime time at weekends we tend to see two 30ish JS guild _ pug blobs trying to out move our 30-40 pug blob.
Seems SFR have gained a lot of new wallflowers since the last sale as well as some new guilds (that don’t speak English).
Turret Engi is OP but Shoutbow warrior is ok.
Turret Engi is OP but Guardian is ok.
Turret Engi is OP but Burst Mesmer is ok.
Turret Engi is OP but Power Necro is ok.
Turret Engi is OP but 50s cd is ok.Bias logic.
The difference being, turret engi is basically AI playing the game whereas the rest actually require some human element to not be useless and can be pushed off the cap point.
There’s a thought- make them affected by knockbacks and pushbacks too- no reason why they stay rooted to the spot the way they currently do.
Might be ‘more important’, but unless it’s better rewarded, most people still won’t bother.
25,000 badges to buy a precurser.
That might even motivate some to spend some time in WvW who have never been there.
The problem being that will just encourage even more blobbing and zero defending, as well as even more ‘spam 1’ heavy types, as everyone knows guards just ave to look at an enemy to earn a tag and loot.
I’m sorry to be the one to burst your bubble, but it’s not gonna happen.
We’re getting a new map with the expansion later in the year. That’s it for wvw for another 3 years unless they decide to appoint a dedicated wvw team and decide it’s where they want to pump resources into- but that is exceedingly unlikely as they prefer their spvp ‘esport’. I tried to listen to one of the matches once and the commentators sounded like they were on speed which totally ruined it.
So, without wanting to pick up another ipoint, what we need is a new ‘wvw forum specialist’.
There are those that are quite prolific posters on these forums who seem to be superbly qualified for the job, perhaps they could volunteer on behalf of the community, or to put it another way ‘put their money where their mouth is’.
Delete all seige except for flame rams would make WvW a better place.
It would also make it 100% impossible for an outnumbered group to ever defend something.
Frequently defend against greater numbers using nothing but our own skills and some well timed forays. It’s far from impossible if you get off your charger and rather than waving from the ramparts actually actively try and stop them.
The problem is many people are afraid that they might get hurt if they jump down and rather than risk their toon taking damage (or heaven forbid, dying!) they will stand and watch while the rams take down the gate, then jump off the wall and run away saying ‘X keep lost’ before it’s even capped.
If I’m on my ele and we’re outnumbered on a defence I’ll die several times killing siege – the one thing I won’t do is be a wallflower.
Perhaps re-skinning the siege models could refresh our perspectives?
Here is an existing skin currently in-game as a Seraph Catapult in Gendarran Fields.
I believe that is a treb, but I don’t PvE enough to know for sure.
It should be a treb, obviously, but it is called a “Seraph Catapult”, and works… poorly, with a catapult ball flying from half way up the arm.
Sad thing is it is much more likely that they will fix that treb than fix all the problems in wvw.
As for new types of siege, there have been many suggestions in previous threads all of which have been ignored, so maybe the OP felt it a waste of time to list all of them (sorry licnog, but pulling him up on not listing them all is a pretty weak white knight even for you..).
I agree, there should be new types of siege (and a few removed), but I also think maps need a rotation, subgames, and many other changes that i won’t bother listing (again).
