i was lmao when reading. It seems to be a typical ‘disease’ amongst players (not only in this game) NOT to read description correctly or at all.

Just look at all those post about people that are not able to read the bottom of
these scam-mails where it is clearly stated that the mail is NOT from ANet.

And the problem is maybe also that even if people read it, they simply don’t
understand it.

So far we got Carapax in the last year as reward, which is a heavy grind and i still

in the shop where it was much faster for me to earn the gold to buy it.

But yeah .. people want their ingame reward and prefer to grind 10 times more

Most MMOs? That certainly is not true for the MMORPG segment, what major games are played by point and click?

Off the top of my head….Neverwinter, Age of Conan, DDO and LotRO. There is WASD movement, but also an option for simple point and clicking as well.

Can’t remember they had point and click. WASD still was the main movement style
and i think, you could click maybe both buttons to run like you can also in GW2.

Drakkar Lake was just an “inofficial” RP-Server before we even had the megaservers.

So there never were any servers that were official flaged as RP-Servers, like for example
in Lotro.

And the megaserver of course also destroyed all forms of servers outside of WvW.

Awkward Controls?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Beldin.5498

Beldin.5498

I came from SWTOR, but I played Guild Wars exclusively once I came into the game. The controls didn’t strike me as off then. I started playing Tera for a while and currently play Vindictus, neither of which have tab targeting, so I’ve gotten use to faster response and what to me feels like more intuitive camera rotation. I asked in game and some players agreed about the controls feeling strangely, some said they were fine but their friends coming from other games thought they were odd.

I play MMOs for years but never was a shooter player and for me games like Tera
and Vinductus are just plain unplayable. I simply hate it when the camera shakes
everytime i move my mouse just little bit. Also starting to hack with my weapons
when clicking a key is just horrible for me. And even worse if every attack also
drags you some steps forward.

The only Point & Click MMO i remember was the very first i played : Lineage 2.
After that i played EQ2 and every other MMO i played so far had WASD movement.

I would much like a list of best locations to get the various location gather dailies.

For herbs :

Kryta -> Salad field next to Beetletun ( http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/beetletun-waypoint/40552/ )
Ascalon -> potatoe field at Loreclaw Waypoint ( http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/loreclaw-waypoint/7060/ )
Orr -> around Fort Trinity (http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/plinth-timberland-waypoint/32159/)

Wood and ore .. just run through some zones you are familiar with. For shiverpeaks
thats always Dredgehaunt Cliffs or Timberline Falls for me

Could be an unrecoverable read error on your harddisk.

Check the SMART status of your HDD with something like Active Smart.

I have been able to go past this exactly once, but the game froze after about 30 secconds.

Those freezes are typical when your disk can’t deliver the data that a program wants
because there are defect sectors.

First you can try to simply replace your SATA cable because a broken cable can
cause the same effect. If that does not help its mostly your HDD.

Or just try to make a copy of your GW2 folder .. and look if the copy process

Is there a lack of meaningful content?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Beldin.5498

Beldin.5498

yep, and this is the core problem with themepark-style MMOs (where devs attempt to create all the content, and in-game player-player interactions are superficial) versus sandbox-style MMOs (where the devs create systems for players to create their own content).

Example of sandbox MMOs: Eve, Archeage, Darkfall. If you really want to play a “living world” MMO, you really need to be playing a sandbox game like one of these, they kill this game for dead in the lving story department, it’s not even comparable.

Sandbox MMOs generally still do offer grindy PVE-type content, because that’s what some players like, the difference is, the high-end PVE rewards are almost always in full PVP zones, so surprise fights/ganks can and do happen. Of any MMO i’ve played, i’d probably rate Darkfall’s PVE as the least grindy, simply because the mob AI is pretty good, the combat is very active, and high-end mobs are generally pretty hard (plus the good mob spawn areas see frequent PVP action).

The closest GW2 comes to being “living world” is in WVW, and even then, the original WVW in DAOC was a lot more sandboxy in the sense that owning and holding keeps actually meant something, and keep takes often took hours or days, not minutes.

In any case, Anet haven’t shown any interest in even flirting with sandbox-oriented concepts anywhere, so I highly doubt they’re going to change now.

Personally i think that GW2 is too much sandbox for a lot of people because it has
not the typical themepark railroads that always tell you where you have to go next to get the next better gear.

Its maybe not sandbox for people that understand open-pvp under sandbox, but
ist sandbox like if you understand that you have to choose by yourself what you will do next and not that you only are able to follow a big blinking arrow that shows you the way to the next tier dungeon.

Is there a lack of meaningful content?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Beldin.5498

Beldin.5498

Is there any game where content (pve content specifically) is not considered by anyone to be a “grind”?

And no i’m seriously asking.

It depends on what you mean. GW2 has very grindy open world content.

Take SW for example, there are only 5 events on the whole map. Defend forts, escort supply, kill vets, beat bosses, beat VW. The whole map is those 5 events. Completing them once is not enough to earn you anything, in fact you need to complete those same events 40-50 times to finish the achievements and get the zone skins.

I don’t know of ANY MMO that requires 40-50 completions of the same content to get all the rewards. WoW for example you get all the zone rewards by doing each quest in a zone once. No grind there, you do it, you’re done. WoW dungeons generally take 5-10 completions to get all possible rewards, but you generally don’t need them all. WoW raids take 10-12 completions to get your endgame gear which is probably the “grindiest” part of it. Compare that to GW2 where it takes ~150 dungeons runs to get all the gear from a single dungeon.

So for Open world I would not consider WoW PvE to be a grind, and I would consider their dungeons to not be a grind either. I would consider raids to be a slight grind, but SIGNIFICANTLY less than what it takes in GW2.

And whats left in WoW after you have done all the quests once ? I guess like in
most other MMOs you have then only some dailys you can grind there and
thats it .. right ?

Also in most MMOs i’ve heared people complain about the quest grind, cause
you mostly have to do all the quests there just to get the level for the next zone.
In EQ2 that were often 100+ quest per zone. Some of my level 80 characters
there had in the end a total of 2500 quests done.

Oh and dungeons gear .. i’ve also did some dungeons there 100 times and never
got the item i really wanted. So good that you are not forced to do dungeons
here at all.

That’s fine when you’re salvaging things, but I’ve found some weird ones on the trading post that you can’t salvage and it’d be nice to know that lvl 4 sword you bought you can’t salvage for luck or whatever.

I guess its a level 5 and not level 4 sword. Mostly that are just white items that you
can buy from NPC vendors. So never buy white stuff with a level that can divided
by 5, if you want just salvage fodder.

Mentioned in the OP. Very convenient for Anet that the only resolution to this issue is either sacrifice a lot more gold, or spend real money when there is no way to tell currently.

Oh c’mon .. how many people do you think will really have this one worst case
scenario ? Normally the most valueable upgrade you can put into a twister is
an exquisite ruby jewel.

And yes .. if you want to USE an item that you want to sell .. a little research is not that bad. Would you also equip a legendary before you sell it in hope that you can unbind it somehow ?

Season 1 might have been all temporary but a lot of it was just more farming.

In the end all MMOs are about farming if you want to play them longer.
You can make the leveling process take longer, but then player cry that it is
such a bad grind to max level.

If you don’t want to farm don’t play am MMO for longer than maybe 2-3 months
the same as you would mostly not play a single player games for years.

Season 1 however gave us new stuff every 2 weeks without constantly having
breaks for 3-4 months, and when the content was getting old after a week already
you only had to wait 1 more week to get something new.

Now look at WoW .. 3 months after release of the latest expansion they are down
to less player than before .. and everyone now waits another 2 years for the next
expansion .. that they will again mostly left after 2-3 months.

Why is Double Daily Fractal still happening?

Beldin.5498

Still not really understanding the fractal hate when all you need to do is one level 1 stage to get the Daily Fractal checked off. I guess I just don’t see the difference between doing it vs doing a dungeon?

It’s not like you can roll Cliffside on your first stage.

There us a high chance someone who dislikes fractals may also dislike dungeons.

Then I’m also not understanding why disliking so vehemently so much of the game (Dungeons/Fractals, WvW, PvP) that one refuses to them means that 10 AP is important to this player. Casual play (DE, exploring, RP, etc) don’t even have to worry about the self-Imposed “AP checks” that other elitist players expect.

Can you please explain why losing the 10 AP for the day is so important to a player like this? I really just don’t get it.

Because those achievement chests are the only way to get WvW tokens, that you
need for Legendarys or you can use to get ascended stuff for less laurels ^^

The memorial should be something simple, and not name any specific names. A small plaque and three trees.

“In memory of those who died so others may live.”
An apple tree.
A cherry tree.
An oak tree.

This is the right way to do it! Then people who haven’t played the PS through and/or are unaware of the characters will think nothing of the trees, bar perhaps it’s a nice thought; then if they continue and complete the story and come back to the trees, there’ll be at least some acknowledgement of what occurred.

As for the rest of us, we’ll all get something for our favourite mentor(s), so it’s a complete win-win.

I am quite sure hat the vast majority of players does not want really hard content. Really hard content would mean: not farm-able, no speed clears and each run would feel like the first one.

I think most people want content that is more profitable and with restricted accessibility to rule marker segments as soon as they start to talk about challenging/hard content.

And the players that want hard content, want that also mostly just when they can
get much more loot/money there than anywhere else. Mostly it must be also
“exclusive” loot, so they can show off how great they are in front of all those
unworthy noobs ^^

Else if its just that its all to easy, they could solo dungeons naked with a white

Personally i liked the character editor from AION much more than the one from Tera.

Having more options in the character editor, like in AION or ArcheAge however is
something i really would like to have.

Only 1% of the GW2 players are posting on the forums was said by our german CM
a while ago. So whatever you read here is the oppinion of a very small minority,
and mostly people go to the forums if they have to complain about something.

The other 99% are maybe just happy to play the game

3 Years for 1 Expansion.....

Maybe the Living World and the Living Story didn’t work out the way ANet wanted. They seemed to have wanted a game world where every day was different and non repeated, like the real world. It didn’t work out for them, people didn’t want this. But you should give them credit for trying to do something different than the old standby of no content for 1-2 years and then an expansion, rinse and repeat like the other games.

So, there wasn’t an expansion for a long time because they were trying something else. They deserve consideration for that at least.

Yeah .. trying to do something different than just copying the old stuff again and
again is always some kind of trial and error and you only see if it works after you
released it.

But if nobody tries something new we will live in WoW clones forever, since
Blizzard is the last company on earth that will ever invent something new.
They can only copy and paste the ideas from other companys.

Hopefully the upcoming MMOs (Black Desert, Tree of Savior, Skyforge, etc) will be better, and most of us won’t be here.

Yeah .. start here to make it a better game .. lol

Make sure your GPU is located in the slot next to your CPU.
This is the most common error.

Change Resolution of Windowed Mode

I can drag the window border to expand the window size, but it snaps back to the original size every time.

You can drag it to resize it, but sadly not that it really totally fits to your screen.
There will always be a small part of the desktop be visible either on your left
or right side.

Its a little bit annoying if you want to have the windows taskbar visible all the time
but i have gotten more or less used to it, beside sometimes still clicking outside
the window :/

Open your PC and look if your GPU is in the slot next to your CPU. Thats mostly
the problem.
Else make sure your GPU is seated proper in the slot .. just remove it and press it
in again.

Oh please don’t even try and say living story = expansion if that’s true where is my S1
story ? fact is no one new NO ONE can understand the story it’s a mess that makes no since

The living story was content for people who were here at the time. If you’re new and you have the game for a year, you’re not waiting 3 years for an expansion, are you?

Yeah .. in the end what in other MMOs happens is that you can level faster after
every new expansion, so that you can just burn through all the old content without
even touching most of it.

I wonder how much you need to play low level content these days in EQ2 since
they had already 10 or 11 expansions so far. I stopped after the 5th .. and it was
always that leveling a new character to max took nearly the same time that you
needed before the newest level-cap.

Come on we waited 3 years for 1 expansion this is even higher than the World of Warcraft waiting times lol (its 2 years there) and the funny is that after this elder dragon there are 4 more that means at least 4 more expansions, so the players who are 40+ years old might not even make it till the last expansion if it continues so slow. Will Heart of Thorns be released this year at least?

While most of the people here have been kind of harsh in their response, my initial reaction to your OP was one of pity. I can’t imagine how awful it must be to have been brainwashed into thinking that paying an additional fee for content that lasts 1 month once every 2 years on top of a monthly fee just for access to the game is superior to receiving free content updates on a semi-monthly schedule. I mean, you’re being robbed of both enjoyment and cash and being told to say you like it!

Not to forget that you pay for all your progress of those last years getting mostly
invalidated ^^
