I believe they added a slider to adjust player created sounds (like the bells, horn, and flute), I don’t know if that also works on the minis.

Um…. it’s not about turning GW2 into GW1, it’s about taking a small THING from GW1 that was far superior to the relative THING in GW2.

In this case the anniversary gifts.

You did get an Anniversary gift. It just wasn’t the anniversary gift you wanted. Don’t look a gifthorse in the mouth.

It’s not an anniversary gift, it’s a birthday gift. A gift given to each character you have. Would you buy the same exact gift for all of your friends, or would you try to get them something unique to their personality that they would treasure? I’m not going to destroy my free birthday gift, I’m not going to hate ArenaNet for giving out identical minis to every character I make. I AM however going to feel like it’s a little cheap and easy rather than the excitement that I got from opening my GW1 birthday present and wondering what I’d get.

That’s not QQing, that’s not entitlement, that’s feedback for ArenaNet. Last I heard, they actually WANT that, m-kay?

its very bad to get free stuff, people complain when it doesn’t meet their standards, then QQ and talk about GW2 being dead to them and moving on to another game. lulz.

In that case, give me your address and I’ll go find a dead rat and mail it to you, as a gift.

I appreciate all the thoughtful responses on both sides of this disagreement. I really appreciate those for the change that have disagreed without resorting to labels such as OCD, dumb, and stupid, or the negative retorts like too bad, your fault, and QQ moar.

At this point in the discussion the same exact points keep getting re-used and it’s just verbal ping-pong now. I hope I have made my opinion of the change in an intelligent and respectful manner, and I know many of you on the opposing side have done just that. I just don’t think any progress is being made anymore.

Alot of you are not getting what most of have been talking about so lets get this straight.
When We say recipes we are losing WE ARE NOT talking about what the devs posted about. WE know the recipes for incriptions will not be reset. What your not getting is. We have already combined Inscription + Part 1 + Part 2 and discovered for them all for all the inscriptions. And to give even more Sence of what ArenaNet is ripping from us. Heres the example count of Mats and need to get back to what we was previously at for huntsman that they will stealing from us.

Huntsman
9 Incriptions types have to crafted again.
5 dowels x 9 inscriptions x 7 weapons = 315 dowels needed again
5 × 9 × 7 = 315 Ectos
5 × 7 for each teir 6 mat = 35 fangs , powerfulboods, etc
10 × 7 Flawless Snowflakes = 70 Snowflakes
30 × 7 Karka Shells = 210 Shells

Dowels
315 × 3 ingots = 945 ori ingots
315 × 2 planks = 630 Anceint planks

Craft Comp. 10 Inscriptions need this 11 if you crafted celes
Harpoon| 2 ingots 2 planks x 10 Inscriptions = 20 ingots 20 planks
Longow Stave | 4 planks x 10 = 40 planks
Pistol Frame | 2 planks x 10 = 20 planks
Rifle Stock | 3 planks x 2(2 weapons Require this Comp) x 10 = 60 planks
Shortbow Stave | 4 planks x 10 = 40 planks
Torch handle | 2 × 10 = 20 planks
Harden String | 3 × 2(2 weapons Require) x 10 = 60 Cured Hardened Leather Squares
Ori Horn | 1 ingot 2 planks x 10 = 10 ingots 20 planks
Ori Pistal Barrel | 3 ingots x 10 = 30 ingots
Ori Rifle Barrel | 3 ingots x 10 = 30 ingots
Ori Torch Head | 2 ingots x 10 = 20 ingots
Ori Warhorn Mouthpeice | 1 ingot x 10 ingots

Replacement of the 7 Sentinels Inscriptions I used already from the Molten Dungeon
7 × 14g(yesterday they where 18g wth) = 98-99g and There is only 208 left on the Tradepost

Totals for huntsman (forgive me if my maths wrong this news has me very upset)
1065 ingots x 2 ore = 2130 ore
850 planks x 3 logs = 2550 logs
100g for sentinals inscriptions
315 ectos
70 snowflakes
210 karka shells
35 of each teir 6 mat (Powerfull bloods, Ancient Bones,Elaborate Totem, Vicious Claw,Armored Scale,Powerfull Venom Sacs,,Vicious Fangs)

This Is what they will be ripping from my Huntsmans Crafting The time it took to gather the mats and buy any mats i still needed. mostly ectos and ori. The time spent on getting the Sentinals Incriptions in Molten Dungeon.

My weaponsmith I got done the same way before the Chaos update. Should I elaborate those totals too? Weaponsmith has 8 weapons instead of 7 so it be even more cost.

“edited for length”

And don’t forget its not just 2 of my professions that are being reset. If there going to reset all the exotic weapons What do you think going to happen when they roll out ascended armor my other 2 craft professions will get hit too Even worse for the ones that has this done for all the professions Something of which I was still working to do. this might no big deal to the ones that stopped @ 400 but this is a game killer for the ones that went past it and unlocked everything. The way i feel right now is Arenanet is reaching into my chest and pulling out my Heart with this reset. Its not a great feeling to have.
So please Arenanet don’t reset the exotic discovery’s give some sorta of retroactive reward for the exp thru discovering them all(or some of them) already instead.

Since so many replies are “What have you really lost? Stop complaining.” I’ve quoted the above. This is what we’ve lost and it’s not minuscule! The prices on ALL of these materials have gone up, and at least one of EACH and EVERY recipe lost will have to be made again! That’s a HUGE gold sink. Even if this rollback doesn’t affect you, even if you like this rollback, you have to at least concede this is no small setback for those of us who have invested the time and money to collect these recipes. And just because we actually LIKE crafting doesn’t mean we have an OCD problem, are WvW players addicted? Are jumping puzzle completionists OCD? We like crafting, it’s that simple.

I will do this again, with the update I’ll have no choice, it doesn’t mean I have to like losing a ton of gold and time to just get back to where I was before this update. You don’t have to agree but can you at least respect our position?

Will Asc. crafting be time-gated per account?

BilboBaggins.5620

I really don’t understand why time gating is necessary on items that are NOT trade-able.

We’ll flood the market our inventories!

In all seriousness though I think it’s a combination of things. In part, some attempt to retain players from other MMO’s which were basically designed as an eternal grindfest, where they realize some people if allowed to actually get what they want will lose interest entirely. Except I don’t think ‘wait a long time’ is going to prove nearly the substitute that needs, because boring-as-all-hell effort spent in getting something is still actually spending effort in getting it, and working toward it is the appeal which (can, for some people) make the dull grind worthwhile. Even if the ingredients for Asc. will be harder to obtain than quartz, with time gating that’s only relevant until you hit that wall instead, and then your work is done; it’s down to waiting.

Then in part, as per Kirschwasser's post, an attempt to keep casual players from being left behind. Which… I guess it would work if they logged in as often as required (and here I’ll just mention that ‘dailies’ are a thing) but ultimately it still creates people you can literally never catch up to – people who have had the game longer – and says to anyone who would have put in extra effort to get extra stuff that they will not be able to.

If anything that makes me sympathetic to the idea of grinding…

Unfortunately I’ll be one of those left behind, and I was in it from beta just like GW1. I just can’t log in every single day to craft. Oh well, just one more thing I’m locked out of.

ArenaNet. You guys have done well with this revamped encounter. Making the waypoint contested to prevent zerging, making it have more health, do more damage, have more mechanics and require more than just mindlessly shooting at his foot..

Dropping ascended weapons and materials, dropping a mini Tequatl, having its own achievement list! This is incredible. I hope the other dragon and meta events follow the same pattern shortly but I am genuinely impressed.

Please leave it challenging. Tweak if needed (extend the time alotted or something if anything at all) but PLEASE do not nerf it. It looks incredible and I can’t wait to give it a go!

The waves… OH MY GOD THE WAVES! This fight looks absolutely incredible!!!

The only negative I see to this is that until all the other bosses are brought up to this level, Teq will be ignored as a world event and most people will just farm the easier content.

BilboBaggins.5620

Wait.

I think people are misunderstanding somewhat, because you aren’t losing out the most important part of making the exotics, the inscription. Those are not being reset, those ranting and raving about losing their RARE molten sentinel exotic creations can still make them.

It’s the convinence of seeing that exotic on your crafting list that is going away. Meaning once the patch hits, you make the materials and toss it in the discovery again to get the exotic and its discovery back on your crafting list.

Blowing it far out of hand folks…

Though if you are a completionist of the most extreme kind (Every Exotic Discovery founded) then yes this would impact you. Sorry for your impulsive loss

This does nothing against everyone else.

Except this DOES impact everyone who has even one recipe reset. It affects the gold/time it took to get the mats to discover that recipe and requires us to invest that gold/time to discover it again. Just like the mf change that flushes the gold/mats/laurels/time/transmutation stones that we invested to make the gear.

Except for the small bit where people are already aware of what the recipes are now, there is no time needed to discover recipes! And if you were frequently using said recipe (Ultimately I find it unlikely that anyone always made every single discovery on a daily basis), then it should not be too hard to re-learn it again for discovery experience towards Grandmaster ‘so-so’. Heck, I would be MORE upset if I couldn’t discover the recipes again, it is a huge bonus to discovering a recipe towards leveling a craft.

….Yes, I agree on the MF point, that will be a harsh hit to my wallet and I am pretty sad it is going away.

But I cannot figure out why anyone except those who are completionists with crafting would be upset by this change! It encourages a head-start into leveling your crafting and is a minor hiccup to mass-crafting since you have to put the materials in ONCE to discovery the recipe!

Making a mountain out of a mole-hill jeez…

You didn’t address my main gripe, the gold/time wasted. You can see it for mf gear because it affects you too. I’d guess you have a tidy stock of materials in your bank, I don’t. I reached 400 in every crafting discipline so I sell my materials to make more gold. Now I either have to invest time to get those materials or gold to buy those materials to get a recipe I already know.

I fully understand their justifications but this change, just like the mf change, is stealing gold from my account pure and simple. Even if you don’t find it problematic for yourself you surely must see that this is more than just a reset of a recipe, it’s a flushing of the gold/time it took to unlock that recipe.

BTW love the dismissive attitude there, I don’t think I’ve treated anyone with an opposing viewpoint that way. Don’t worry though, as long as it’s done defending ArenaNet, no moderator action will be taken.

no clue about time gating, i actually would like to hear a legitimate reason for it
none of that money making conspiracy theories….

The only reason that seems to fit is to add another carrot to daily play. If you can log in every day, you can get an ascended item (bound!) in about two weeks (according to the dev stream). If, like me, your life limits you to weekend play, then maybe a few months to a year? Oh yeah, and you’ll have to do dungeons and jumping puzzles to get some t7 mats as well as salvage exotics for one rare mat (like exotics drop daily).

I guess since ascended is just as good as a legendary they want it to take a long time to get.

So you get the item in 14 days of your play and I get the item in 14 days of my play. In what world isn’t that fair.

You’ll be playing 14 days in the old gear and I’ll be playing 14 days in the old gear. Relatively it’s all the same.

This is the only fair way to do it.

If you think time-gating a bound item is a good way to do things I doubt there’s anything I could say to change your mind. Enjoy the grind.

I just came back to the game after several months of not playing, as was happy to be bombarded with achievement chests and goodies. Among them was the radiant gloves skin. I didn’t want to get rid of my old gloves, so I went to the TP and bought some new ones to transmute over. Unfortunately, having not played the game for a while I had forgotten to check which armor class I was buying for, and made a total rookie mistake and transmuted the skin over to a heavy set when I need light armor.

Is there anything I can do about this? Can I open a ticket with a GM or something (I have never done this before and I have no idea how to go about doing this).

It would suck if I got these and could never use them.

As an achievement reward the Radiant skin is an unlock. So you can go to your achievement panel and get another skin to put on the right set of gloves. Just put that other pair in your bank for when you have a character that can use them.

This is pure speculation on my part but my guess is 300% is the maximum percentage that will affect drops, meaning I believe once you hit max, there will be no need to eat mf food or use guild banners. I could be wrong because ArenaaNet probably doesn’t want to make those things meaningless. But i also believe that 300% mf is going to take a long, L-O-N-G time to reach. I’m thinking tens if not hundreds of thousands of salvages, maybe even more.

they have stated that non-account bound MF% boosts can raise you above the 300% cap

I read the post and watched the dev stream, but must’ve missed that. Makes sense though. I still think it’s going to be a long, slow grind to 300%.

The PvE in the original Guild Wars was basically a long, story driven tutorial for the REAL game… competitive PvP! There were several flavors of PvP you could enjoy from Alliance Battles, 1v1, GvG, all the way to tournament PvP. Lately it seems like all the new content is repetitive farming content while the PvP side still has only ONE mode of competitive PvP.

Oh well, I don’t want to try to flip this discussion to PvP, just something a guildie and I talked about that’s been rattling in my brain the last couple days.

Living Story: I think it's time to reevaluate

in Living World

BilboBaggins.5620

I could be wrong but here is my opinion on what’s happened in this first year:

At launch we have a lot of us hardcore Guild Wars fans come in along with many players from several other “grindy” MMOs. I’m sure there were some GW1 veterans who decided to see how fast they could hit lvl 80, but for the most part even they knew there were still many things they could do in the game to have fun.

The vast majority of the “race to 80” group came from those other MMOs, hit the end, and started loudly complaining that GW2 was shallow and had no end-game. ArenaNet saw all of these complaints they didn’t expect to see and thought “Oh no, we gotta add a bunch of repetitive content or we’re going to lose a lot of customers.”, which, for the grind-happy, was mostly true. Unfortunately I don’t think anyone at ArenaNet ever stopped and asked themselves how this content would be received by their core fans. And now here we are with zones of mindless invasion mobs standing around waiting to be farmed into oblivion.

I love this game!!! I’m not going anywhere! This is NOT a whiny “I’m gonna quit!” post. But I do think there have been several missteps lately by ArenaNet all to appease a group of gamers who are all going to move on to the next big thing as soon as it launches. That is the wrong group of gamers to develop content for!

Why oh why are you time-gating, on a per-account basis, ascended weapons that are bound to us? This really hurts alt-a-holics who have multiple characters to equip. I just don’t get why you would need to slow the creation of bound ascended gear that much… unless you changed your mind and we’ll be able to sell our creations?

Is lag no longer a concern?

EvE doesn’t really get time dilation until you hit about 700-800+ players. Just saying.

While I appreciate the spirit of this response, I think it is clear that EvE and our game have very different types and amounts of calculations to make. We are making strides to improve the skill lag, but it is a very large and very difficult problem to solve. We can’t do more than take little chips off of it at a time and eventually those should add up to sizable differences, but each little change isn’t going to make a major impact in and of itself.

I have all my settings at their maximums including the two “culling” settings and the only time I notice a problem is when I first load in to a city. The ground and buildings won’t be there for a few seconds and then they pop in. I consider it a very small price to pay for having the world actually feel lived-in.

I don’t have some powerhouse system; Intel i5 3.4ghz, nVidia GTX600, and a lowly 8gb of DDRIII 1600 ram. I’m hoping adding a second card will speed up the loading of assets in cities, but as I said before I’d rather have this than ghost towns.

Will Asc. crafting be time-gated per account?

I really don’t understand why time gating is necessary on items that are NOT trade-able.

Dragons, remember them?

Puff, the elder dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in the land of Sylvari,
Little Scarlet Briar loved that rascal Puff,
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. oh!

Together they would travel on a boat with Aether sails
Scarlet kept a lookout perched on Puffs gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow whenever they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flag when Puff roared out his name. oh!

A dragon lives forever but not Sylvari girls
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Scarlet Briar came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave,
So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!

I’m 47 years old and that @&^! song still makes me cry!

Worst event since Ancient Karka

Again. Silliness. Your reasoning is weak opinion at best. Bottom line is if you don’t enjoy it don’t do it.

An overused and baseless argument. If you disagree, point out the flaws in their statement and explain why you feel changes are not needed. To just spew this same trite line of hyperbole helps no one.

Concerns about permanant invasions

Just wait the 45 minutes for the event to fail if you can’t do it seems to be the best way to remove this “issue”.

People want permanent additions to the game, and as far as we know these will only happen once or twice per day after the event.

But of all the things they could’ve made permanent THIS is what they choose??? I didn’t find it fun or engaging from day one. So many other better options to choose from.

Farmers and Moral Superiority

A lot of threads recently in both the Queen’s speech update as well as the gauntlet update have been complaints about farmers. Basically:

1. Farmers spoil the fun for others!
2. Farmers spoil the economy!
3. You should play for fun not gold! (As if getting gold isn’t fun)
4. Farmers force others to farm since they’ll be left out
5. Insert favorite complaints here….

What people don’t seem to understand is that for a lot of us, getting gold, gearing up, getting minipets, buying skins and armor to show off etc is fun. It’s why we play the game. For some people fun can be running around with friends. Others (like me) don’t care about friends and exploring etc, but just want to get better gear, weapons and show off.

Different ways to play the game.

Also, asking farmers to forbear from farming because it “spoils the economy” is absurd. That’s like the government offering you a tax break which you deliberately don’t take advantage of because “it’s not good for the economy”. Please understand that a basic premise in economics is that everyone acts in their own self interest. It’s ridiculous to exhort others to hold off getting easy gold (like in the gauntlet). As long as it’s not an exploit that the developers didn’t intend.

Finally, farming is not an exploit. To take the latest example, Anet was fully aware of gauntlet farming and took their own sweet time in making changes. It’s not like a programming bug or something that was clearly not intended by the developers.

Farming is a logical respectable activity. It’s fully as important as the righteous people running around claiming that they play “just for fun”. Good for you. And some people play to farm.

Thank you.

I can’t speak for everyone and I surely don’t begrudge others from having more gold than me but here’s the problem I see.

As these living story updates get pushed out (at break-neck speed) the people who can play daily get in on the new content and farm the heck out of the new content. Problems are found by ArenaNet in that people are able to make hundreds of gold in a very short time and that wasn’t intended. ArenaNet adjusts things but doesn’t take back any of that earned gold (and they shouldn’t), but by the time most casual players are able to participate in the events their earnings are very pedestrian. Prices go up and the gulf between the have’s and have-not’s widens.

It can be a bit frustrating. I basically play for fun and resign myself to knowing there are some things I will just never be able to afford.
