Note that the fact that they introduced the TRAIT changes BEFORE the China release tells me they had this “consolidation” planned all along and just didn’t want to dump all the leveling changes on us at one time.
I’m guessing they now realize this possibly could have been handled differently / better, but since most of these changes are being looked upon by a good number of players as a fully dressed feces sandwich, I’m not sure how.

Your laptop is defective (likely blew a capacitor). GW2 stressed the system, but NOTHING any piece of code running on a computer can do will CAUSE a hardware failure on a properly designed and functioning computer system….PERIOD.
Tell that to Nvidia and one of their old drivers being a cause to some of the Geforce cards to catch fire (albeit this was an issue with thermal control if I remember correctly) while running certain games…
How is that NOT a design issue (either a driver design/code error or the hardware configuration was wrong to begin with)? Note the “properly designed and functioning”, part of my statement.
Note that most modern electronics will have MANY “filter” capacitors in the power plane circuit (designed to keep the power voltages highly stable and noise free across the PC board) that are NOT absolutely necessary for the proper operation of the electronics themselves. These can “blow” without effecting the overall operation of the circuits themselves. As long as they don’t SHORT the power plane or cause any surge damage at the time they fail, you will get a puff of smoke and burning smell while nothing else will appear to be wrong and the circuit will continue to work without it just fine (abet, the supply voltage to nearby components may be slightly effected).
Note that these usually blow because they are contain some impurity defects from the factory (potential low quality component) that finally “fail” after some period of time under stress.

I can see this from both sides.
Proposal: Anet gives those that had multiple tags PRIOR to the annoucment an exclusive tag color for each extra tag they had.
Don’t know if this is even possible, but it would provide for some sort of “exclusive” recognition of those that bought tags before it became a rush to buy after the announcement.
To be honest, this entire situation has made commander tags an even bigger joke than they used to be. I’m not saying that to insult legitimate and good Commanders, but if I can afford 100g and get a tag as easy as I did, the system to OBTAIN them is flat out broken. I have no qualifications to enable my tag and no real reason to have bought one, but I DID because it was a “deal”.

If I wrote a spreadsheet for a client and gave him a sub total and 2 values to subtract but not the GRAND total, what would his likely response be? What POSSIBLE defense could I have? Didn’t want to use another cell? Figured it would be good math practice? Just wasn’t up to actually finishing the project?
Would, “it’s easy math, dude….get a calculator.”, be the proper response to him?
I give Anet the benefit of the doubt in 98% of the issues, but this one is just could not have been something any tester would have missed (again, giving them the benefit of the doubt).
To be honest, I just want to know if the designer of the Trade window is incompetent, screwing with us, or there is some hidden agenda here (beyond providing every player with math homework on every Sell Order).
Again, just dumbfounded and hoping someone at Anet is not too embarrassed to answer….
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
I think the nodes are all there, there is just now a specific level at which they start showing up on the map…..
I just destroyed 8 mini Queen Jennahs because I don’t want to waste the bank space.
That probably means they will allow extras to be tossed in the Forge with the next patch….
….. This needs a HotFix ASAP.
……Oh yes….this is absolutely game breaking and must be fixed IMMEDIATELY!!!!
(that was extreme sarcasm if you can’t tell….)
I hate to break it to you BLINGers but game performance trumps cutesy pets EVERY time…..as it should.
Oh please. I know some friends who spent over 1000g on mini pets to get them and now they can’t even see them. I never saw them more kittened then that. They have every right to kitten about it.
Never said they couldn’t be upset about it, but just because they spent 1000g on digital “pets” does not mean Anet should drop everything and INSTANTLY fix this. To be honest, I think Anet was far too ambitious with this “feature” in the first place. They HAD to KNOW this would cause performance issues (and thus prevented them with the pet culling everyone is upset about) AND that putting it in place would anger the mini-peties out there.
No doubt (like LOTS in this update), it has been handled badly, but DEMANDING an instant fix like this issue keeps you from playing the game at all is just childish….
Your laptop is defective (likely blew a capacitor). GW2 stressed the system, but NOTHING any piece of code running on a computer can do will CAUSE a hardware failure on a properly designed and functioning computer system….PERIOD.
It’s not really about “too many players”, but I have no doubt they have something content wise hidden away as a hole card. This update was a code consolidation move and the changes themselves were for the China playerbase (when they originally released in China).
I do believe that if the changes generate a revenue slump (which it certainly could), we will see an Expansion Pack level campaign released to “revitalize” the game and (attempt) to draw retired players back to the game (and I think it will likely be successful if the content is strong enough). The “no sub fee” model allows for that type of long term strategy plan.
Now the theory that this update is an intentional sabotage by the Devs to hasten this situation (RELEASE THE KRAKEN!)…..well, that’s kind of far fetched (but interesting and not impossible to some extent).
Since you can’t use minis in explorable areas anymore, they probably don’t care what she looks like now.
Pardon me??
I can use minis in Wayfarer Foothills
What did you mean explorable areas???
I’m guessing it’s sarcasm due to culling issue (Minis are hidden when too many players are in zone).
….. This needs a HotFix ASAP.
……

LOL at those that think a rollback is even something they would consider….I note how successful the #SABorRIOT movement was….. GG.
They did this to consolidate code between versions of the game….they are NOT going back on that main goal (as imperfect as the results may be).
While I get the “you should be able to add and subtract for this value…”, answers, I’m kind of baffled as to WHY it would be so difficult to add another number that gives you a net return value? I’m not trying to be mean, but from my few uses of the new interface, it’s very good EXCEPT that it is missing what is likely the most crucial number any trader needs…..totally baffling to me.
I’d really like to hear from a Dev whether this “decision” was intentional or simply an oversight?
If it was an oversight, can we expect a change at some point? (or at least give us an in-game calculator).
If it was intentional, can someone please enlighten us as to WHY? You are giving us the numbers that SHOW how much the 15% trade fee is, I’m not sure how the lack of a net profit value will harm anything.
Very confused at this oversight / kitten of a very good (IMO) change to the TP.
There is no FIX for this….it’s designed to keep minis from destroying Sever performance and I’m glad they thought enough to put the limitation in there. Much better than the GW1 solution where only the first X number of players with minis out got to show theirs….
Your claim that this performance saving feature is “outrageous” is kind of outrageous…
That’s true, Vayne you DO get skills a lot slower in GW1. I made a video about it if you wanna look at it:
I note you didn’t continue showing that you CAN’T keep those skills after you do the quest NOR can you buy the ones on the list you showed without Skillpoints (that you ONLY get by leveling in GW1).
Video is VERY misleading if you are trying to convince someoen you just got 4 skills less than a minute after creating the character…..you got to TRY 4 skills (which is a GOOD tutorial method in my mind), not actually gain them.
If my theory is correct (and many changes over the past few months have supported it), the company is already in a financial struggle……
You are 100% wrong in that theory….financials show GW2 has consistantly made money for NCSoft since release (and continues to do so).
I’m not saying that will not possibly change……
….and that’s when they announce the Expansion Pack….
They have a solid financial plan for years of operation but I have to think this update was either a brilliant plan by the Devs to speed up the Expansion release or a hideous error in judgement.

After viewing a video on the leveling changes, I get the OP being upset by this (any player pre-40 is getting some form of the shaft from this patch).
Obviously this move is to consolidate code (from NA/EU version & China version) so I’m not sure how they could “grandfather” in the changes to existing characters and truly consolidate the code. That being said, I think they have handled this aspect of the patch changes very poorly (in terms of hyping it as the best thing since sliced bread and offering no warning to existing players that are getting shafted).
Now veteran players being all “outraged” about this change (even those that were planning new Alts) have less of a reason to be so dramatic about it. Yes, many of the changes are simply idiotic, but once you get past LVL 40, the game has actually been improved (ok….they could still do some work on the Trait system).
I’m missing what got “taken away” with this patch….the ability to progress your personal story until a specific level is reached?
I’m seriously asking to OP to explain specifically what was rolled back with this patch.
…..I don’t think they had too, I think everyone but Anet gets the message.
Really? A review of a patch doesn’t need to be tried or tested at all by the reviewer? When players start accepting these obvious short cuts as acceptable practice…well, video game journalism has been highly questionable in my eyes for at least a decade and this just supports my stance.
I’m not being supportive of the changes, just absolutely against accepting some “reviewers” opinions of a game patch simply based on “fan” feedback and hearsay from a bunch of forum complaints.
It is possible that the few traits that are getting renamed / swapped might be reset (so they show no selected trait). Shouldn’t be too hard to just select a trait for those slots….don’t see the issue even if it refunds ALL your trait points….It’s just 7 clicks.
Why do WoW players feel the need to come here and request GW2 be changed to include WoW features? GW2 does not need to become WoW (nor visa-versa….both games CAN exist….and you CAN play them both).
Not sure that they need to respond….since the maps do NOT count toward the World Completion titles, they don’t have world completion counters….fairly simple to figure out without a Dev telling us.
I meant people who SELL runs (my bad). Those that run dungeons on a regular basis (at least the ones I’ve spoken to in my Guild) don’t think this is a BAD change at all. There may be issues with the change they do not foresee, however, so I don’t mean to imply this is a definate fix for the abuse, but I think the fact that Anet is trying to do SOMETHING is better than the current situation.
Where is that displayed in the UI? I’ve never seen it before.
WAY too many to list here….please check out the update pages on the Wiki….

You can go back to all the updates from the ARCHIVE link in the upper right frame.
….The changes to dungeon owner is like stealing a deadly weapon in a nuclear war. ….
Really, your gonna go with that analogy?
I think Anet is being quite clear in that they don’t consider dungeon running (as a gold earning activity) to be worth protecting when compared to the actual intended use of the LFG tool and the instanced party system. The damage to a dungeon runners potential income is incidental, but has no relevance in the larger scheme of the how they want to fix the abuse the system allows to occur in it’s current form.
If you want to blame someone, how about the “kickers” that abused the system to the extent that Anet had to change it…..
BTW, everyone but Dungeon runners considers the party change to be QoL change….
Windowed mode uses the resolution of your desktop. It sounds as if your Windows desktop setting is not matching your monitors native resolution…..(just a guess).
If you have a Condition Damage GS that would be the START of your issues….
ALL map zones are now what used to be considered “overflow”. That’s really what MegaServer system is all about.
If you want to identify your server, type /ip in the chat window and you will get the server IP of your current map zone. Note this IP will change with each map loading.
Some of the comments are a bit too harsh, but I agree you have chosen the wrong game. What you “want” is relevant to an existing 2 year old game…..(other than you might not “want” to play it).
Sounds like the ISPs in question are throttling or have their throttling profile messed up (if it only happens during peak hours).
Information like the image Beldin shows needs to be presented to your ISP with demands for them to do something about it. YOU are their customer, not NCSoft or Anet.
How long did it take the OP to reach 80? If it was less than a month or 2, I see the problem as following advice in a rush to reach 80. If I used suggestions to Zerg and level quickly for my first (or even 2nd or 3rd) characters, I would be disappointed too….
You can’t expect an “experience” if you bypassed the entire game to reach 80 quickly.
Don’t disagree with the OPs opinion about displacing back items, but I think a much larger issue is the effects any decent cape animations would have on the Server infrastructure. I think they could easily add capes but what they could implement and NOT greatly effect Server performance would be considered lackluster and disappointing by most players.
Please recall that the “solid” non moving (very short) capes of GW1 were simply a banner on your back (that in no way moved fluidly) with your guild emblem on it. You can get that now with the Guild backpack skin.
They COULD allow the Guild backpack to be toggle-able visual that could be turned on and off like a cape (would have no effect on existing backpiece nor require any trans charges to turn on / off).
It’s not that I’m against this idea, but there are LOTs of other things Anet could (and should) be focusing resources on (how about some bug fixes?).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Have you ever seen A-Net doing more than the absolute bare minimum??
Really……
All that reminds me of “Malibu Stacy has a new hat” from Simpsons
I see them do more than the bare minimum every time they put out a patch….see the bare minimum is not to put out anything……see how exaggeration works both ways?
Again, Anet wanted to avoid the TAB+SKILL button mashing of GW1 with GW2.
Seriously, I could run my mesmer with a HEX build into a mob and do almost as well with my eyes closed as open (sans picking the most powerful enemy to lay Ineptitude/Backfire on).
Sigh….I so miss my Interrupt / Wastrel builds….
so since you are so knowledgeable about how to make a good mmo/game why have you not made one yourself?
One doesn’t have to be a creator in order to criticise.
Your argument is one of the most common logical fallacies used by the ill informed and those with poor debate skills.
….where a critic may be well informed but poorly suited to do anything other than tear down other’s actual work….
A creator can exist without a critic…..not so visa-versa.
With the Trilogy almost all the skills are available for purchase in Kaineng City and Kamaden. Yes, you need to get to the Fire Islands to get all the Prophies’ only skills (you can get most of them in Lions Arch), but you need to get to Fire Islands for most of the good Elites anyway.
As pointed out above, Elite hunting was freakin’ awesome…one of the best parts of the game.
None. I wanted more too but anet is super busy changing things that do not need changing
Yes, because we need new hairstyles SOOOO badly…./facepalm.
Really? Gonna go with the “evil little brother”, defense?
Not sure I care what happened, but I’m 99% sure it didn’t happen like the OP portrayed it.
You would need something in the order of thousands of strikes, with the Watchwork Pick and a normal Orichalcum Pick. (With perhaps another unlimited pick like the Molten Pick thrown in there for additional research purposes.) At that kind of numbers, you’re pretty much guaranteed to have avoided any extreme streaks of bad luck.
Just to add, I would suggest the same type of node (say Mithril …..no RICH veins).
A thousand each (watchwork, Molten and Ori) is a decent number.
Completed Brisban this morning and got a key and no TC.
@bloodstealer – I never said they wouldn’t discuss if something will make money. Of course, they have that discussion…it’s a business and they need to keep the Servers running. What I mean is that I don’t think Dev conversations START with, “how can we bilk more cash from these players!??”.
The poster I was responding to appeared to seriously believe that the Devs have a singular Evil intent behind everything they did….find ways to take our money. My point was that if you REALLY believe this, why are you in any way still associated with this game?
@ gobax.6185: Weird? Most of people who plays since release knows that there are “Luck” accounts amongst the casual “RNG Hates Me” accounts.
/facepalm…..
MOST people? REALLY? Wow…..
urban legend.
People proved RNG or droprates or whatever are wrong too many times.
…..
Proving there is a MISTAKE in the droprate code is a FAR cry from uncovering some super-secret “luck” stat on accounts…..you are perpetuating the urban legend by making such a connection and kind of proving just how far conspiracy theory nuts will go to convince others of their delusional beliefs….
If it makes you feel better to blame your in-game “luck” on something that MUST be someone’s fault, go right ahead, but don’t paint your wacky theories as KNOWN FACT and then include MOST players in your cult following…..
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
You cannot make those without BOLTS of SILK so you couldn’t have wasted SILK SCRAPS on those without making BOLTs first…..OP’s story does not remotely sound believable….at all.
BTW, how did you craft 1500 of ANY item (by accident) and not hit cancel after the first few?
Submit a ticket with Support. You are not the first player to make this mistake (and likely won’t be the last). Support has helped other players resolve this.
Hexes & Enchantments were a major balancing issue in GW1 that Anet purposely wanted to avoid in GW2 and this requested feature would be VERY close to that.
Expanding on this “idea” a bit, would it be so horrible for a set of MF recipes that allowed for ANY equipment to be converted to another stat set? I’m not talking about something cheap and easy, but a path of some sort.
They need to add a /server chat so message only shows up for YOUR homeworld members in the zone…..
I’m here and NEVER paying a sub fee…..thanks to Anet for that.
…. Although the total of 10 people in the whole game who actually like them aren’t really a crowd by any means.
…….
Please provide your scientific evidence or poll data to support your “assumption”. I have no problem with the kit backpacks (to be honest, I hate all the flashy, cutsie, or over-blown effects back pieces most players run around in). That being said, I wouldn’t turn down more options on customizing how my characters look.
Did it ever dawn on you the reason Anet does not appear to care is that your perception of how many people HATE the backpacks is actually closer to 10 than those that like them or are simply indifferent to them?
