I think every player (at least those that have been hacked SHOULD) would appreciate something other than, “Can’t remember PW…HELP!” (the exact ONLY words use in the email that resulted in my account being compromised) being all that is needed to get Support to initiate a PW change.
I would hope that anything that could be done to help players avoid a compromised account would be worth considering and I SERIOUSLLY think a policy change on this issue would greatly REDUCE Support workload (and likely reduce hack attempts like these in general once hackers realize they can’t use this method to gain access to accounts any longer).
Just sell to buy orders and you will never be undercut
Either you are all BL traders’ favorite customer or a BL trader playing at Jedi mind tricks…..
“This is not the custom buy order you are looking for….”
…..
Then there is a whole bunch of people that think they are smarter than they actually are ……
That statement is true for much more than the BLTP…..
So it rewards player that support keeping the game servers powered up (those that buy Gems). Funny how that works….almost if by design….hmmmm.
Implying that there is no other possible, less exploitative way to make money? I mean, off the very top of my head, if they wanted to sell more keys/make money then they could make black lion chests more rewarding, or guarantee at least a ticket scrap per chest, or sell the skins directly in the gemstore – ANYTHING other than this “Key sale! ohbtwifyoudon’tbuynowyouloseaccesstotheseskinsindefinitelylol”
I don’t think I implied there are not other ways, just that RL $ Gem purchases is one of their VERY few ways to earn revenue….and that the Marketing (that is often borderline sleazy) is quite brilliant at times.
….
what’s the big deal with that. If you just play the game, you’ll naturally get your gear. It’s not like you need to grind anything, because you usually won’t repeat a dungeon more than 10 times and you should get your drop. And you can’t even grind raid, since it is usually on a timer for say 1 week.I can’t say the same about GW2, I’ve done many of the dungeon path way more than 10 times, or killing shatter more than 10 times.
Again, the difference (and big deal) is that none of the Dungeon Paths you have done in GW2 were REQUIRED to obtain gear you NEEDED to play other content in the game. Wanting a specific look is a “choice” each player makes and determines how they spend their time in the game.
It’s basically a different philosophy in how the game works and this “who is better” argument is pointless as neither WoW should be more like GW2 nor visa-versa…..if you want the other type of game-play, go play the other game. Simple.
Actually, the upgrade item (the gem, mark, ect.) has an equipment level minimum that it can be used on (as an upgade). Equipment below that level cannot accept those level upgrade items (if they have an upgrade slot).
I think the OP is talking about the several “special” personal story trinkets that already have increased stats to include “gem upgrades” on their basic stats and have no upgrade slot. Ascended trinkets also have “built in upgrades” and no upgrade slot (possibly an infusion slot).
In general, if a soulbound piece of equipment has an upgrade slot, upgrades that meet the equipment level requirement can be added (they will ’overwrite" any existing upgrade on the item). This upgrade process will in fact, soulbind an item to the character adding the upgrade if it was not previously soulbound.

Keep in mind that condition builds generally suck for
PVEDungeons.
Fixed that. There is nothing wrong with Condition Damage except in Zerg situations (were it is highly nerfed by stacking limitation). In Open World exploration / roaming, Condition Damage can often kill mobs of enemies faster (and certainly easier) than Zerker builds.
To be honest, Condition Damage in a Dungeon isn’t that bad (assuming no more than one other player is Condition based), it just does not kill as quickly as Zerker (and thus quite unpopular with the “pro-runner” crowd).
The general idea that Condition Damage builds “suck” in all situations in PvE is just a myth.

Brilliant marketing…. You can call it sleazy if you want, but one of their only revenue source to keep the game running is RL $ Gem sales and I for one would rather see them obtain that revenue from completionist collectors and dress-up addicts than me. (sorry if the truth huts).
They have never claimed there would be no grind.
They have claimed there would be no REQUIRED grind. Which is still very much true. You can experience every single piece of content in the game without ever grinding anything.
This should be the standard boiler-plate response to every “GRIND” complaint post on these forums. The supposed “statement” that GW2 will have “NO GRIND” is misquoted, misused and twisted for a wide variety of agendas and needs to be properly stated and used in proper context.
Thank you for stating it clearly.
Even if it’s (2) then what exactly would you propose Arena.net have done instead? NOT make Guild Wars 2?
Yes.
Then you’re being wholly irrational and unreasonable. There is absolutely no way they DON’T make a game. That’s just ridiculous.
Not really.
If a publisher orders you to not include most of your previous work, should you bow out? Absolutely. How would you react if an art dealer tells you to only show a 3rd of your painting? ANet could have simply refused, lost NCSoft as a publisher, and waited until they found another. Does that suck? Yes. Does it mean a lot of people might have to take a pay hit? Yes.
But at least they get to keep their integrity.
I’m not sure you understand the exact nature of Arenanet / NCSoft business arrangement. I’m pretty sure NCSoft is MUCH more than simply the publisher of this game….Arenanet is a subsidiary of NCSoft (i.e. NCSsoft is technically it’s owner). You can’t say NO and bow out of that arrangement like a petulant 7 year old.

play the game to play the game; don’t play it to get drops, or you will always be disappointed.
this concept is part of Basic Gambling 101Disagree. We play this game to play, sure, but there is nothing fun about busting your rear in a level 49 fractal and getting nothing, over and over and over again. The drop rates are broken. They need to be fixed. Or even acknowledged.
Is there a reason this isn’t in the Dungeon forums? (In before move).
We can even trade legendaries, if there’s any ‘achievement reward’ that’s supposed to show prestige, it’s a legendary weapon. And they can be traded.
I’m pretty sure if you asked Anet Dev’s NOW, neither Legendaries OR Precursors would have ever been tradeable. I’d say 90% of the player agnst against the TP stems from this error in judgement. (I get that Precursors were saleable so players wouldn’t get stuck with unwanted or unusable ones but I have NO idea why Legendaries were ever anything but Account Bound when forged).
That being said, that horn as long been blown, but they don’t seem to want to go down that path again with other highly desirable items. Can’t say I blame them.
Has the OP submitted a ticket? Nobody here has any authority or pull in getting you what you want (but Support just might….but I wouldn’t hold your breath).
Maybe I’m completely wrong here, but these traits everyone is talking about tied to these temple events, are these the same traits I unlocked with gold the day the patch dropped? I do a lot of sPvP, so I just clicked on them, saw I could unlock them with a piddly some of gold and unlocked them. Are there other traits I’m unaware of that are only unlockable via these events, because even though they said I had to kill some mob from some event, I was still able to unlock them via gold.
Yes they’re the same, the XIII trait.
If you have only 1 character it’s fine, but if you have like me the 8 professions, it becomes 120 gold +100 skill points per character.
I don’t have the gold and don’t have 100 skill points on every char so I go for the events when a guilmate warn.
Oh come on….at MOST you will want one or two of those immediatly (MAYBE 3 if you change builds a lot). You can wait to unlock the others.
Keep in mind that since those areas are all high level and surrounded by tons of Events, Champions and T5/T6 resources, you should not be “standing around” waiting 2 hours…..
I think politely asking in MAP chat to let the Defense Events fail works most of the time. I’m guessing much of the problem with players ignoring the requests is either due to them not seeing the request (lot so player turn off the chat window completely) and blindly doing every Event that pops up (possibly trying to get Dailies).
Try whispering the player continuing to pursue the Defense Event when that happens.
This does need to be addressed by ANet as beyond the XIII trait issue, these events generate significant Dragonite Ore that cannot be earned when Temples are constantly open.

This might be a very long post if someone complains about every aspect of the in-game world that does not adhere to RL natural laws of physics…..
I would be interested in taking a gander at that list, however.
Note that your friends email is likely being monitored by the hacker (that will actively try and prevent support from helping the actual account owner).
Change that email password and realize that changing the password does not necessarily mean the hacker is still not accessing the email. While most email web pages time out (and would then require the hacker to log back in with the NEW password), you can extend this timeout (in some cases to WEEKS) when you first log in.
Turning on the 2-step email authentication (if available) might solve this problem (and force the hacker to relog in….it would depend on how the email provider coded the web interface page.
You guys can attempt to flood report the account in-game and it might get locked down. Also, immediately revoke all Guild bank access for that account (if possible) or that will get cleaned out as well (that might be what is happening that tipped you off….I’m not clear on some of the details you posted).

Gaile,
As you stated, it does appear that the vast majority of recent account hacks have come from hacked email accounts. In light of this, has any consideration been given to altering the policy of blindly issuing change password requests that come in from legit email accounts? I fully understand this would inconvenience users that legitimatley want their password changed and may possibly cause more front end work for Support, but I have to believe that if this policy were changed (so that email requests would be redirected to the on-line ticket submission system….that ASKS for validation of the user info), Support’s need to handle hacked accounts would also VASTLY be reduced.
I get that email account security isn’t Anet’s responsibility, but in light of the rash of compromised player email accounts being used to hack GW2 accounts, the change just seems to make sense (for both players account security and Support workload standpoint).
Just asking if it is being considered.

OP: CHANGE your email immediately. The hacker obviously has (or has had) access to that email account and your only safe option is to abandon the account. I know that is a PitA, but if you have any RL financial or retails sites with that email registered, you could be in REAL financial danger.
While changing the email account password is a good start, a hacker will return to compromised accounts (or sell the info to other hackers). A hacker has lots to gain financially if they let the email account owner THINK it is no longer compromised and they keep monitoring it for a better target than your GW2 account (like your bank or Amazon account….that you saved your CC information on).
Just my 2 cents.
They will tell someone if a name is acceptable or not but not discuss the reasons why it’s not acceptable. Since he has not yet been reported or suspended but is only worrying about the possibility I doubt he needs to contact support, not for a name like Cinderfang.
My bad….I misread the OP and thought he had been forced to change it.
Reading is fundamental…..

You keep saying “the” third party program. Care to share the name with us?
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176
I’m VERY surprised that name was either not taken or on ANet’s “can’t use that” list….
It being unusable is understandable and it DOES violate the naming rules (copyrighted material use).
I get the OPs POed (mostly because it took 9 months to get disqualified, I’m guessing), but I seriously can’t believe NOBODY in game has mentioned the fact that the name is likely “illegal”. OP MUST have known this was possibly inevitable.
All the examples being listed (close to other popular copyrighted characters) are ALSO in violation of the naming rules and could be taken away at any moment. Their existence in game does not automatically invalid the listed naming rules.

To add to Gaile’s comments, MY account was compromised (for less than 2 minutes according to Support) and a week+ later, I saw the email to “rate the support I received” from Anet Support. Having NOT logged into the game for at least a month (taking a break) I quickly realized my email had been compromised and my GW2 password had been changed. Immediately changed my email password (it was a very old email account and I had stupidly left the password as one I used for years on other sites across the internet….100% MY FAULT) and contacted support to regain control of my GW2 account.
Support got me back into my account and after a complete review of everything, I realized NOTHING had been taken (that I am aware of….that was 3 months ago). Not sure if I just had junk they didn’t want (I was still in the process of gearing up my 8 characters with Exotics at the time), or what, but I was VERY lucky. Still can’t believe they didn’t take the 150g in my personal guild storage.
TLDNR: My account was compromised and not a thing was taken. Hackers had sole access to it for nearly 2 weeks before I realize it and re-secured everything. I DO realize just how lucky I was and do NOT take it for granted any longer. Security issue was 100% my fault (and has since been corrected).
I know this is an extreme suggestion, but how about a PENALTY of rewards taken away for AFK. If it is made SO damaging that players would NEVER attempt it, that might, “nip it in the bud” (Barney Fife reference FtW).
Yes, I see the draconian, slippery slope the suggestion presents, but until you make it the OPPOSITE of profitable to do, AFK will not stop. Banning the player for whatever period of time AFTER they get rewards for doing nothing does not seem to be working.

Have any of you that claim “sleazy” practices ever considered HOW the servers stay powered up so you can log in? List the ways that Anet (currently) can obtain operating revenue to keep this game running and think about it.
Reminding players that they CAN turn gems into gold is not sleazy….it’s a direct plea to players to NOT buy from gold sellers (as mentioned above).
In WoW when you wanted a certain piece of gear was it for the looks or because you NEEDED the stats? There is a HUGE difference in wanting to look good (a choice) and needing the equipment to continue forward in the game (a block).
Nowhere in GW2 does it require RL money to play the game. As mentioned above, you always have the option of buying Gems with Gold to obtain any item you desire.
In WoW you can transmogrify your armor to look like another piece of armor. Weapons too. And you know what? All I have to do is run the content without having to see an obnoxious “Buy Now!” button on my transmogrification interface.
And gear is part of raiding. If you don’t like raiding, then don’t play. But like I said I got my character into the easiest version of the most current content within a day or two. And that’s just fine for me because I play casually and it gives me 3-4 hours of fun a week. If I had the inclination to run the more difficult versions, I could. Some of us like gameplay that involves more than running around in a blob spamming 1.
So the short answer to my question is that you NEED the stats of the armor to continue playing. So it’s less about what you WANT as something you MUST HAVE to continue playing. If you don’t see the difference, I can’t help you.
You go ahead and pay $180 / year for not seeing a button that sells you something but I don’t play subscription games. These 2 games have different economic models and it is necessary for Anet to SELL things to keep the servers running. If you can’t grasp that concept or just don’t like it, you are welcome to go back to paying a monthly fee and return to your Raiding.
You can ‘TRANSMUTE’ your look in GW2 as well and the transmutation charges are earned as rewards as well as available to be bought.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Crafting? Really? They moved this thread to the Crafting forum? It really has nothing to do with crafting. Is there a “Salvaging” forum? Or a “Boo-Boo” forum?
How is salvaging not related to crafting? It’s one of the main methods to obtain crafting materials.
If you already have the Fused Crystals, then there is no time gate and the Exotics are NOT expensive sans the Recipes.
Note that it is highly likely the Recipes will become available again next week.
The cost for Damask Bolts (for light armor) IS an expense that cannot be avoided for the Ascended version, however and the stat difference is 10 points per stat for the full set. NOT worth it (IMO).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
You ALSO need the recipe for the ARMOR pieces (not just the insignia). These can also be bought on the TP (and as stated previously are quite expensive).
CELESTIAL, ZEALOTS (and one other one, I think) stat pieces all work like this.
Extreme waste of player resources. I think they are the Devs personal side-joke (just to see how far a min-maxer mentality player would go).
Having to ask this question from what you describe indicates you may need other professional therapy (and I don’t mean physical). Not being mean, but if you are willing to sacrifice your health and endure PAIN to play a game, you should likely stop for reasons other than the injury….
Engineer lacks melee (other than a kit or 2), but beyond that, he’s quite diverse.
Ranger may be closer to a true “jack of all trades”, but the 2nd line of that saying applies to them as well (“master of none”). I love my Ranger, but they come with a built in speedbump……the flawed pet system. In addition, they generally promote a lazy game-play ethic that far too many “players” seem to embrace without question.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
PLEASE don’t learn how to (badly) play the game with a Ranger…..
Standing still, shooting a longbow while your pet tanks is a HORRIBLE way to learn the game mechanics you will need later in the game….like dodging and moving and NOT getting hit.
……My advice is to go with something with a bit more depth like elementalist or engineer.
This is the equivalent of throwing the guy in the deep end and hoping he can swim. Elementalist and Engineer are the most technically difficult classes to play (constant button pressing, attunement / kit swapping, etc.). Yes, the classes are more complex, but STARTING with them is more likely to frustrate a new guy than one of the other classes is to bore him.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
At level 26 just wear what drops and don’t spend a copper on equipment. Also, resist the urge to spend your karma on better gear as you level. You shouldn’t worry about equipment level until it is more than 10 or 15 levels below your current level.
If you must spend gold or due to bad drops, buy some Blue items on the Trading Post to tide you over.
Save, Save, SAVE until you reach 80 (then you can start to worry about what to buy). Exceptions are possibly spending karma at LVL 40 & 60 to get a RARE (yellow) weapon or 2 from racial / faction NPC vendors and possibly the Guild Backpieces (LVL 60?).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Would NOT suggest spending any Laurels until you reach LVL 80. Save them up.
I will ask everyone to note that only those that “skinned over” or “transmutted over” the items they are lamenting over did not unlock those “special” skins. Basically, you didn’t think they were special enough to keep them, yet now that you feel you should get something BACK that you discarded, you are complaining.
Typical of the “entitled” portion of the player base.
I have skins I tossed myself, and I fully realize I MADE A MISTAKE and lost those items thru a conscious decision. The funny thing is those skins were much more valuable when they were destroyed than they are now as anyone that KEPT them can now destroy the item with impunity and still get back the “look”…..so it’s far less “unique” now.
….
I want to know when i will be able to get what i want, like ascended amulets, 20 days + achievement chest or a hour of BoH train in EotM. Dungeon armor, 1 day for helm/glove/boot, 2 days for the chest piece…
Your examples imply you seem to know EXACTLY WHEN you can get those items. Making those times shorter is a different complaint (sounds like you want all those end game items just given to you, but maybe I’m misunderstanding your post).
Everyone here needs to take a step back and realize that while providing players with a viable game IS the goal, there is also a larger (some would say, more important) goal that Anet (and ANY business) must address….making enough money to keep servers running and earn a profit.
With that in mind, exactly HOW does Anet do this? Seriously, think about it. There are EXACTLY 2 methods for ANet to make revenue (with their current game model):
That’s a pretty short list of ways to generate money to keep the servers running so all of us can actually log in and play. Certainly, there could be some changes to the economic model to make more ways, but currently the above 2 methods are literally their bottom line.
To increase the chance that players will BUY GEMS, they must gear content toward keeping players logged in so the access to the GEM store is present. You may not like it, but that’s the economic truth of this game.
Auto restarting has normally 2 reasons, either its a bluescreen, and you have the option checked for auto restart, so look first and disable that option so that you get a bluescreen.
This is a good point as since Win XP SP1 the default for MS OSs is to restart on a BSoD (but you should see the BSoD flash on the screen momentarily before the restart). This can be disabled (Windows 7) via:
COMPUTER PROPERTIES > ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS > ADVANCED (tab) > STARTUP AND RECOVERY (SETTINGS…. button) > Uncheck AUTOMATICALLY RESTART (under SYSTEM FAILURE).
You should then be able to discern the BSoD failure (trap) code and search on it to find more details.
Technically, that would work, but if it doesn’t I doubt there is any method to recover those resources.

Gaile,
Any update on this issue?
BTW, there is no method (in-game) to “unsave” your previously saved CC info.
There is another thread here that reported this feature has mysteriously gone away and I thought Gaile was looking into it but I am unaware of any official response at this point.

Cool. Though, I personally would never use Outlook. Ack!
Good information for others, though.
Outlook.com is a very good website (much better than gmail, IMO). If you are just discounting it because it’s ‘hip’ to hate Microsoft, you should reconsider.
Again, I think calling this a “modification” would be a stretch and I would tend to say, this is in the same vein as using FRAPs or any other video capture program while playing the game.
DISCLAIMER: My opinion (and anyone other than an ANet employee’s) means squat on this issue. As mentioned above, Anet has consistently avoided declaring 3rd party programs as ‘ok’, so I’m betting this falls into the same category.
I would say as long as it does not give you ANY in game advantage, it does not violate the EULA….but that’s just my opinion. I doubt anyone at Anet is going to give you an “ok”, however.
I’d be more concerned with this possibly violating copyright laws (but that’s a stretch as well). My point is, no matter how you want to look at this, you do NOT own the rights to the image of your character nor the assets used to generate the image….Anet does.
In all honesty, I can’t see how Anet would know you are using this utility and as long as you don’t use it on a continual basis, I’m not sure how it could cause issues (again, my personal opinion….that means nothing in terms of any action against your account).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Make sure you email account is secured (password changed) and find out from Support if any tickets for your account have been processed recently (most notably any password change requests from your associated email account that you did not open).
If that email account has been used to change the password without your knowledge, you need to CHANGE that email association to a new email account BEFORE asking for a rollback. Also, abandon use of that email account (especially for ANY RL financial accounts, websites).
Did you get the “we received your ticket request…..” email after you submitted it? If not, you may be having some communications issue with Anet Support and they have tried to contact you but you are not getting the emails. Obviously, check your junk mail.
They want to start getting as much dues from you before you kick the bucket, so they start bugging you to join around 50.
We need our own UAG (Union of Ancient Gamers). Had to play at least one text or ASCII based game to join….
Capture events also provide the largest single event source of Dragonite Ore in the game so without the events, that source has effectively dried up.
The Trait issue is less of a problem as they can be obtained by another method (gold & skill points), but it should be a concern that it is quite difficult now to actually EARN many of the Grandmaster Traits (including most of the new XIII ones).
I think Anet didn’t properly consider how resourceful a nicely populated (Mega)server of player would be in holding Temples 24/7 and they need to ramp up the difficulty of the Defend the Temple events so they will eventually HAVE to fail and allow for a restart of the capture events.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Yeah…OP lost me at the word MOUNT…..
Nice try, but GW2 does not need to become GWoW2.
I’m not apposed to the introduction of new permanent content but it does not need to mimic WoW expansions.
One of the mounts could be a dead horse!
And you have to beat it but it keeps showing back up…..
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
EotM is also a great place to get some AP. Just run with the zerg for awhile and watch the AP climb.
I’d say it would take you about 30 min to an hour with a half decent commander to get all the WvW dailies done and work on all the others (including many of the Season 2 AP).
Have you even TRIED to request in map chat that you need the capture events to obtain a Trait? Happened at 2 different temples in ML this morning and plenty of players showed up and waited for the event, then ran about for a bit as Risen flooded the area and we all ported out….. Worked like a charm to start the Capture event over.
Is it how things should work…no. Anet needs to either rethink the ways the Traits are earned or needs to ramp up the defense difficulty until it fails on a regular basis (no matter how many players defend).
BTW, all the “trash” Exotic items at the Temples have different STATS so there IS a valid reason to have more than one of them OPEN. Despite what the “reasons” you feel the Temples are OPEN, having these items available is valuable to some players (maybe not you).
That wasn’t sarcasm, it was EXAGGERATION (exactly what I said isn’t needed here). From what you just stated it STILL sounds like you are claiming to have witnessed players extorting other players to not block events…..Have you or have you NOT witnessed this? Comparing that to selling Dungeon path runs brings almost all you observations into question. One is a Service (that I don’t condone) and the other is Extortion (that should be reported).
Sure there are nasty players in the game, but expecting them to be nasty and unhelpful might not be the best way to approach a problem and get a solution.
