You don’t have a problem…..there is another player on here complaining about the fact that he cannot have more than 64 character slots…..THAT’s a serious problem.
I have one LVL 80 of each class (not quite, my Ele is still LVL 70) and 2 additional slots that I use for various farming activities (BL keys, Silver Doubloons, etc.). I would be hard pressed to say which of my LVL 80s is my “main” and per above, don’t really care about it as I enjoy playing all of them. See no reason to choose one.

I would advise AGAINST Ranger as a first character as it has a tendency to teach bad play habits to new players. Later in the game, it becomes very important to NOT GET HIT (at least by big damage attacks and AoE damage) it is not that important early on, but players need to learn how to dodge, block and constantly move early on so they are ready for when it becomes a requirement for survival. Ranger does not need to move because of it’s ranged attacks and built in 2nd target to draw enemy fire (pets) and while this is NOT an issue early in the game you should be learning these tactics as second nature from the very beginning.
Keep in mind, I have a Ranger and love playing the class, but it’s a horrible class to learn to play the game with. Warrior is the most forgiving and has a wide option of weapons and can teach you good movement habits so when you DO play a Ranger you will realize how it promotes “lazy” gameplay habits.
Necro is the best of the casters, but Death Shroud can be a survival crutch (but is less likly to teach bad habits as it is an obvious difference with other classes. Learning (or not learning) how to move properly becomes instinct and follows you from class to class.
Just my 2 cents on a starting character.

I am giving suggestions on how to improve security and fair enough, what if the user does not know there is a breach on there end what then? Not all consumers are tech savvy
Still not sure how this leads to Anet being responsible for an account being compromised from another location. Your suggestion IS in place…it’s called mobile authentication. The flaw in that system is that hacking the users email account bypasses most security because Anet will consider all requests coming from the associated email account as verification of the account owner (and they are not wrong to do so).
My suggestion would almost 100% plug that hole (a compromised email hacker without intimate knowledge of the account and/or the account owners financial information (CC #) would not be able to make an account changing request go thru).

At the end of the day it is Anet who is responsible for hacked accounts not the end user!
No it’s not and the EULA (that you agreed to when starting the account) plainly states it’s the USER who is responsible for account security. Your personal feelings on this matter are only relevant in your own mind.
If you use a proxy email address to associate with GW2 account (and use that address for ONLY GW2 account), your odds of being hacked goes down DRASTICLY as now the hacker has to find your proxy email address as well as hack the password. Note that a proxy name you set up is better than a separate account because if the account is known or hacked, the hacker has to figure out which proxy address is used for GW2 and send the request from THAT proxy in order to get Support to act on the request. Granted, that’s not difficult to do, but most hackers would not consider needing to do this.
In my opinion, the most EFFECTIVE way for Anet to correct the issue of email accounts being compromised leading to GW2 accounts being compromised is quite simple (but may require some extra Suport effort up front):
ANY email based support request should be opened as a ticket and the submitter should be pointed to the open request page to answer the already existing security info before ANY account actions will be taken.
I get this is an inconvenience for players and adds another step in the support process (as long as the request is coming from email….if from the website, it is the same process) but if all the email compromised account hacks of GW2 accounts nearly stop, how much Support time will that save Anet? I’m guessing TONS, but I’m just guessing. I also understand the argument that Anet is not responsible for any players personal email account. That is 100% true and I 100% agree with the statement. However, if Anet can alter their policy to PREVENT accounts from being compromised, shouldn’t they at LEAST consider a policy change? My 2 cents on the subject.

Hello everyone.
This thread is purely informative.
From various in-game and outside-game environments I know about the fact that a lot of accounts have been hacked recently and exploited to spam gold-selling messages to the players.
Making such claims as FACTs is not something you actually have hard data to support. I do feel there has been an increase in PLAYER email account compromises lately and that has resulted in GW2 accounts being hacked but this is not anything new. There may be an actual increase, but since we don’t have hard numbers, stating it as FACT is an exaggeration of the actual situation.
I have made the suggestion that Support verify each user that submits an email based request (in order to stop the “change my password” / “sure, done.” simplicity of the current support policy, but have not had much success in obtaining support from players or Gaile in that consideration.

so you are saying that you playing the TP is negatively impacting your game experience and you are aware that it is negatively impacting your game experience,
but you continue to choose to do it anyway despite easily having the option of just stopping?my brain hurts
….you forgot that it must be Anet’s fault this is all happening to him…..
OUCH!
Is this why spark prices are rising so much? They went up by 200g in the last week and supplies have dried up.
I doubt that has anything to do with this issue (The statement on these changes was vague EXCEPT they specifically mentioned NO changes being made to precursor chances from the Forge). The rise in price is likely due to more people trying for Legendarys now that they can share the skin with all characters (demand for precursors has gone up).
…or, buy the uber-expensive Upgrade Extractor from the Gem Store…..your choice.
Sorry to break it to you, but material node maps are useless now. Since there are no longer any Servers specific instances, you can’t tell what map you are in nor can you selectively change to any specific map (at least EU players can “change” to a different language map….NA players can only zone in and out and hope for a change).
In some respects it kind of sucks that you can’t farm nodes on multiple characters as efficiently as before, but it does make gathering more of a challenge than a chore.
Portal in to Bloodtide (South) and Gandaran (North Central) are the only exits/entrances working now.
As mentioned below, you can use Waypoint to travel any time you are not in combat.

Keep in mind the no subscription fee model lends itself to taking breaks from the game. I’ve taken 2 or 3 breaks of several months and they always help me come back and focus more on specific goals.
That feature was added to crafting very soon after launch. It SUCKED having to pull stuff into your inventory to do crafting……
We need some sort of Guild Hall WAY before personal housing…..
I’m not going to bother arguing with people who claim that a 10-15% damage increase is “irrelevant”.
You used the term “irrelevant”, not us. We said it’s not needed to play the game successfuly. The WvW example given is EXACTLY our point.
Ascended weapons are a valid end-game pursuit and provide a decent DPS gain for the effort involved in obtaining them (barely). Ascended Armor…not so much.
The idea that obtaining Ascended gear is FORCED on players by Anet (thus MAKING the game ‘grindy’), is beyond laughable. They made the tier “available” to those that want long term goals and have no way FORCED everyone to “grind” for BiS gear to advance further in the game.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
I would pay piles of good money for a Taxidermy profession…but only if you could do quagans.
Foo?
Add land sharks. Land sharks hunt fishers .. thats what we really need. Land Sharks
….Candy gram….
if this happens gw2 will die.
Ok….no need to exaggerate. It will make passing around wealth inconvenient, but everyone would survive. The problem with the idea is that it fixes nothing…..just becomes inconvenient to pass around wealth (so there is absolutely NO reason to seriously consider it).

I think the point was to make it unprofitable to spend your Laurels on UID dyes since it is quite likely those will become scarce after the update (eventually). If you want to gamble for a high priced dye, go for it. However, since you now only need one of each, buying them off the TP is much more economical now.
If a vendor has a single item that can be used by players, he is not “worthless”, and characterizing the Laurel vendor as such is just blatant exaggeration. There are more people playing this game than just you.
Everyone needs to understand that when the patch hit, the demand for dyes INSTANTLY was divided by the number of characters each player has. The ONLY reason UIDs are needed now are for Legendary Forging.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
It was always a grind (if you didn’t like doing those events). World Boss events are much easier to schedule now (but the Dragonite payout is lower than Temples). The Temple events ARE currently and issue that Anet needs to address (in terms of scheduling / being made aware when they are happening).
But, I think the OP does not understand the term “grind”…..that means representative over and over (which is what you were doing when you could hit the Temple events via guesting) and what we have now just takes longer (World Bosses) and you can’t “predict” the higher Dragonite events. Not saying it’s not a problem, but I don’t see where “grind” has in any way increased since MS being put in place.
@nuggant – I have been monitoring this forum since beta and while there is a slight uptick in account hack posts here, they are mostly due to the backlog in Support and the fact that an increase in email account hacks seem to be more common lately (tho they did happen from the start of the game as well). Compromised accounts are nothing new, but I can say without hesitation, that no compromise reports I have ever seen posted here (and I have SEEN a LOT) support the idea that Anet’s security has been compromised in any way. There is no MASS HACKS you seem convinced of.
I was hacked via email account compromise (stupid me was using an ancient email account using a password I used for years across the internet) in mid January, so you are certainly NOT the first to post about being hacked.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Anything over 16 is ridiculous overkill and not needed. Nobody could ever guess a 16 character password (just lower cases would take a modern computer over a century to go thru all combinations). If a hacker gets you 128 character password from another DB they CAN type it in (tho I would say it’s highly likely their hacking tools would choke or they would just avoid the hassle by skipping it, so there may be some valid security side effects).
The question is valid however (but would Anet WANT everyone to know this?)
This has happened before and every single time it has been ignored. Hence my answer. You can still try resubmitting your ticket/ submitting a new one but don’t get your hopes up.
Your implication that Support does not respond to ticket request is absolutely false. If you put in a request and did not get a nearly immediate automated reply, then you have some communications issue with Anet Support. Check your junk mail and you may need to try and contact Support via another email address (there have been issues with some larger mail providers (yahoo, gmail, etc.) inadvertently blocking Anet support emails.
I have submitted half a dozen requests and have ALWAYS been responded to in a timely fashion.

Then an obvious mistake has been made and you need to update your ticket to get that resolved. Support is under a heavy load right now and they can certainly make errors. I’m sure a follow up with the ticket can get the issue corrected.
Either way, they need to be more consistent (ability wise) across classes. I do agree that there needs to be SOME type of movement skill (eventually) available to allow the possibility of getting out of AoE damage zones.
You should have a decent chance of being able to Rally in a one or 2 enemy PvE situation (sans Champion / Vet) and yet should be rather easily stoppable by another player.

Op is running the game on 32bit windows XP. Not good from a memory standpoint.
This has been discussed in various wardrobe threads. At this point, I would just like to see an Anet employee state that they hear us complaining about this side effect of removing the transmutation feature from the game and are considering doing something about it (or just tell us this is their backhanded method of increasing rune / sigil demand on the TP).
Very disappointed in the general lack of Dev feedback in all these threads they started themselves (but I get the threads are there for THEM to get feedback from us, not the other way around).
Isn’t the MAX cost like 3s?
Maybe they should consider reducing WP costs inside the same zone a bit (so max is 1s @ 80)…..shurg

It took the OP 20 months to come to this conclusion? It’s the reason I play mostly female characters.

You could always have players from other servers in your Guild. MegaServer hasn’t changed that.
now they can contribute influence for the guild as a one entity not just a copy for every server.
in the past you couldn’t.
Still see no bearing to needing to change the name because of this…..
I’m really interested in hearing this leap of logic, so please continue.
Are you sure you want to salvage this ascended item? Congratulations, you just received 20 piles of bloodstone dust!
DOH!
You SHOULD be able to do something with them besides store or destory (even tho I only have Ascended trinkets and a few weapons at this point).
When you see a tagged player you know they’re experienced, and know what they’re doing.
I too had to laugh at that statement. Having 100g to blow on a (potential) status symbol is NOT a prerequisite for experience, skill or tactical thought. That is not to say really good Commanders do not exist but the tag is in no way an indicator of ability.
I (and many other players) would welcome some sort of Commander Ranking system (I know it has been discussed in several threads here) so you could somehow see the tags and get an idea of their actual ability. How to pull that off fairly is another issue.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Um, it’s pretty simple. If I want to remain competitive, and be the best I could be, I have to have max stats in WvW. I have to have max stats in PvE as well, because I’m one of those people who actually CARE about doing very well, and I hate dragging the team down.
Like I said, other people can special snowflake it all they want, but don’t go calling me “bad” or my gear a “crutch” just because I enjoy improving my character.
Nothing you have stated in this thread has in any way PROVEN you need Ascended gear to be “competative” (certainly not in WvW). Having BiS equipment does not make you best at anything (other than jumping on the grind bandwagon for BiS gear). There is NOTHING wrong with you wanting to improve your stats by crafting Ascended gear and I applaud your efforts, but who are actually trying to convince that it is absolutely necessary to play end game content? (because it is NOT required).
BTW some Elitist (yeah, I used the word) ideal that you MUST have Ascended gear or you are a “noob” or a 2nd rate player is NOT a valid “requirement” but a prejudicial viewpoint (that you have every right to fool yourself into believing).
I will caveat my statements by saying if your desire is to play high level Fractals, then Ascended gear IS needed (but for the ability to slot AR, not for the minor stat increases).
Been asked for numerous times and request has been consitently ignored.
That’s not true. They have stated in several recent interviews that the PvP save system (just put in place) is something they are tweaking in hopes of rolling it out for PvE in the future. I don’t think they are working on that directly at the moment, but it has been stated by Devs that they realize it is something players want and something on their radar.
Adept opens at 30
Master opens at 60
Grand Master opens at 80
Tell me about it….I have a Thief and a Warrior that both have over 80% completed (neither have gone very far into Orr yet) and I am also stuck at the 174/175 Shiverpeaks area….. Also having one of each Class and not paying attention to whom has gone where has generated a LOT of confusion.
I did recently find the one area I was missing in Maguma so I have all the Explorer area titles except the one Shiverpeak area and Orr.
I’m going to be working hard this weekend to find that last Shiverpeaks area and then take the Warrior into Orr for that title.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
There is nothing wrong with mixing some Celestial in with another spec to gain a boost in certain stats…..say go with 3 or 4 pieces of Celestial and the rest Soldiers (for more power vs World Bosses) or Knights (more Toughness for WvW).
I find the strict idea that you have to go FULL one armor spec very constraining. You should pick your stats based on how you want to play the game, not because someone tells you your build should be, “All or nothing”. That being said, suiting up for maximum acceptance in Dungeon Pugs is another matter…..

Not being compassionate is not “mocking” the situation. You are being overly sensative and most are asking legitimate questions about the OPs claims. I do feel there is a rather recent issue of email accounts being hacked and Anet’s Support policy directly allows those security issues to turn into compromised accounts (thus my post), but I don’t see a single comment anywhere that implies “mocking” someone that has been hacked.
If you are talking about MY post, I apologize if any of it comes off to anyone as “mocking” as that was never my intent.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Much more likely his email has been hacked…..that likely happens due to a password being reused, not a system infection.
Sounds like your email was hacked (and still is). Change your associated email account password before pursuing a solution with Anet Support.
My only suggestion for an alternate solution for this is to require payment for a restoration beyond the first. How that value is determined would certainly be questionable, however (would not be able to follow the “we are all equal”, mentality, IMO).
BTW, ran an email address I KNOW was compromised thru those forbes links and they were 100% incorrect…..which leads me to question both their capability and potential for nefarious use. Did I just give every hacker in the universe that email address (don’t use that one any longer anyway).

From my recent experience AND viewing the newest “I been hacked!!!” posts here, I’d venture to say 90% are due to email accounts being hacked. Gaile has already posted a good thread on this issue, and while Anet can’t really fix that security issue, there are a few things they could consider to make game accounts more secure to that vector (I get that vector (associated email account) is 100% the players responsibility to secure).
Suggestions:
I know both of these are work for Anet, but they ARE something they should consider if they are serious about helping players keep their accounts secure. Just my 2 cents.

Will add that you never have to spend transmute charges for Hall of Monuments gear.
In case someone was wondering.
Or the skins from Achievement rewards either.
I think it may be a default item in the PvP locker as my son got it when he entered HotM and he has never PvPed (tho I guess he could have gotten it in an Achievement Chest).
hi brother grimm, its just that when you include the interface, you can only see the char up to the knees, everything below gets cut off. i realize its a small visual change, but for me i loved to see the whole character i want the char as huge as possible lol
If you want to see it all , zoom out a notch and you do. Problem solved (and what I mean is that’s the best you are going to get…..they are NOT going to change this back).
I’m not trying to be mean, but it is much more important to be situationally aware in combat than have the visual character be some specified size on the screen.

This is a very large reason to advance your personal story to open the portals at Fort Trinity (so you can at LEAST get into Straits of Devastation for 0g).
Ok…my guess at the timing was a bit off….sorry.
Yeah…I like to actually play my characters. Yes that would work on the first day of the month (as long as they are at different JP chests). My goal is to eventually get credit for ALL JPs (whatever that Achievement is called).
You get 2 @ 78 and 2 @ 80. New system is weighted to be top heavy.
