You have to keep in mind that there is no trinity in this game, so unlike other games where a DPS isn’t supposed to be tanky is factored in because they depend on healers in group combat.

Since there are no healers in the game, typically defensive builds are the best to run in PVP. It has to be the perfect balance between defense and damage pressure.

Historically in the past 3 years, a full damage build really wasn’t effective except for thieves because they had a high stealth uptime.

Now that traits are not locked to stats, it is now very common for defensive builds.

While you may think the game is overpowered, it’s actually quite balanced. In other video games, the match can literally be determined by the team composition before it starts. In this game, that is not the case.

Bunker guardians really aren’t used as much anymore due to the new talent specializations.

In either case, there are counters for dagger elementalist. A good way to kill one is to wait for them to pop mist form and then coordinate a strike against them with your team.

Levels do not matter in PvP, and just about every class is viable in PvP in some way. The correct statement would be that some classes are easier to play than other ones.

I just want to let you know, as someone who plays ranked PvP in the top tier there’s virtually none trash talking. In fact, I haven’t seen it in over a year!

Based off my experiences, the only people who trash talk are bad players themselves.

Ok thanks good to know, its happening so much now im getting completely frustrated.

Literally just now i was in a match with the same friend and we had a warrior quit playing because he couldnt do anything. We were winning at this point and he said this is B******** and ran off from a 2 vs 1. He didnt do enough dmg to hurt the guardians and he couldnt survive for 10 sec in 1 vs 2 fights.

So because he quit our other warrior quit, the score was 280 to about 320 and they just quit. And we were winning 275-250 earlier in the match, this expansion better come quick cause this is getting silly dumb.

No, matchmaking is still active.

And even if the system was perfect, the human element of it will always be an issue. If you’re running into matches where you have bad players, unfortunately that means your MMR isn’t high enough for serious people to play.

I think pretty much everyone knows the new system isn’t good. It doesn’t help though if people post fake issues.

The rating system in this game is he best one for MMORPGS. If you actually tried rated PvP in the other major MMORPGS I will guarentee you that within an hour you’ll be running back to Guild Wars 2.

It’s is not surprising that yet again when someone complains about the system they are full of crap. If you have a 50/50% win rate, the system is working.

Stop complaining about premades. I have been solo queueing for a long time and it’s never stopped me from winning at least 50% of my games, hell most of the time I do better solo against premades because it guarentees I get people with my ranking in my team for the most part.

many months ago, they wanted to force players to learn how to 5 v 5 so they removed all official 8 v 8 hotjoin servers.

Uh, no. It was nothing like that, it was more of by a massive majority people complained on the forums how 10v10 was just a zerg and it was pretty much impossible to play 5v5 because the play now button was always 10v10; that’s when they decided to move to 5v5 and remove some zerg heavy maps such as the raid of Capricorn.

Okay? Just about every single ring effect or line effect in the game does the exact same thing to where you will get hit with its active effect even when teleporting.

I’ll be totally honest here, I don’t really see Guild Wars 2 dying at all honestly. I have been in many other games that didn’t fare so well after launch, but every time I play Guild Wars 2 it always seems like it’s very populated due to megaservers and in some maps there can be 5 or 6 full maps at any given time.

It appears HoT content is being incrementally downloaded with each GW2 patch. It appears this is being done for those who have purchased and have not purchased HoT. I have children who have GW2 accounts and have the game loaded on their computers. They don’t have a lot of hard drive space left (5-6 GB), I have not purchased HoT on their accounts. Over the coming months should I anticipate 10+ GB download patched to their games with HoT content they will not be using and have not paid for? I’d just like some clarification on this because this appears to be the way the expansion is being applied.

If the above is the case I don’t agree with it , if you’re occupying storage space for a product they did not pay for and do not want is that really ethical?

I think to boil it down. What I"m really wondering is how much of the total GW2 install how much HD space will the for-pay expansion assets (models, textures, audio, etc..) account for? The new WvW map would be an example of content for everyone not for pay so I don’t think that content counts as part of this question. If it’s not through the license agreement, at what point to MMORPG developers gain the right to patch gigabytes of data for content you can’t play until you pay for? Is there a limit on how much space they can take? To better protect themselves for some crazy down the road who may try to litigate this should MMORPG developers better protect themselves or do most players not care at all?

So your suggestion instead is, instead of downloading the data once and storing it in the hardrive you would rather have I stream to the PC every single time you play taking tons and tons of more space and cause lag in your household every single time you play a video game and have someone play Netflix at the same time?

Hard drive space is ridiculously cheap at the moment. If anything, the most expensive thing is bandwidth and saving the data on the hardrive saves a ton of future bandwidth.

Are you talking about hotjoins? I don’t see much problems with AFK people in ranked or unranked matches unless the team is being brutally murdered.

If you make it MMR based then people’s tiers can change without them playing, since MMR deteriorates over time and other people can build MMR while you aren’t playing.

If you are worried about players gaming the tiers via MMR drops just knock them down tiers if they lose too much.

That all said ANet hasn’t released the details of their system. In the past they put the details on the wiki for the community to find the weak points. I’d wait for that before judging things given minimal information.

MMR does not change overtime, you can quit for 2 years and come back and have the same rating. The only thing that changes is the leader board ranking. That one of the perks of this game, it used to be amazing until they made it pretty much impossible to stay high on the leader boards unless you play for over 4 hours a day in PvP.

If you’re going into ranked matches and you have no clue how to play the new specs/class then you’re going to get flamed. People played ranked to win – it’s frustrating to lose because someone is playing a class that they have no idea how to play and end up being a liability.

The leader boards for ranked has been offline for months, there really is no need to complain at all. Unranked uses its own system just like ranked to match up people, so essentially both of them are really the same at the moment.

No, it’s not. I used Ride the Lightning to escape, I traveled half way across the map because slow doubles movement skill distances. It’s obviously bugged.

I also noticed it doesn’t seem to go away after it’s cleansed and lasts the full duration, I could swear there has been multiple instances where my character was still slowed despite it being removed.

The whole condition is still very clunky.

So you are basically wanting it to reduce the speed of movement at the same time? What would be the whole purpose of chilled condition then? It does the exact same thing except doesn’t reduce cast time.

It says PvP build as it’s in the PvP builds section, doesn’t mean it’s for templates specifically. It also uses the icon from the new Stronghold PvP mode. As far as we know it could be a different build section for that specific game mode.

Your voice isn’t that bad, but that’s very close to what I run in high end (top 1- 5 % ) rated pvp.

I didn’t have time to check the entire video but one thing I noticed is you took the courage trait over the resolve grandmaster trait; you might want to reconsider that as it gives all of your allies an extra 15% endurance regeneration.

It’s cleric and melandru runes as I can’t get it to work on my mobile phone. The sigil is smoldering on the mace, generosity on greatsword.

It’s a bunker build focused on team support but it haa very deadly burns and reflects. Using signet of resolve will purge 2 conditions, heal you for 10k and grants fury on a 32 sec cooldown.

It’s a very powerful build as it grants 15% endurance regeneration to the entire team, the reflect can stop an entire fight as many classes are projectile based in the meta right now.

Seriously I can’t think of a good AAA game that doesn’t have a test server.

It’s not like that test servers never really helped with balance anyway. They were used to test bugs with skills that weren’t functioning. A lot of bugs still got through because the players are obsessed with their damage output that they literally spend time doing the math to make sure it’s not vroken.

People didn’t do that on test servers, the game was still horribly glitchy. The majority of bugs are fixed within a week of releasing the patch.

In regards to over powered skills, they didn’t even bother to listen to feedback until the game actually goes live.

I’m confused, the guardian meta is not meditations… it’s pretty much a glass cannon. A Bunker guardian that focuses on burns is far more deadly and it appears to be ran a lot in the top 1000 (at least when I play).

Especially since you can give 15% endurance regen to all allies, and being that a lot of classes are projectile based, the concentration trait with the light wall is quite deadly as well; it can literally nullify an entire fight for 12 seconds.

Some of them take the signet specialization and take signet of resolve, for a 32 second heal. If you trait into smite a condition while healing, and have the meditation heal trait it will add an additional 2k healing to the signet and grant you fury.

You should also be using runes of Melandru, they are the best runes to wear right now.

Meditation guardian is not the way to run right now, it does not offer much team support and has too much downtime.

During Closed Beta/Alpha, the stats where based on points allocated to certain trees and I feel this was the best way to customize your character. But, they dropped this idea because it was too complex for players… at least thats what they got from feedback.

It wouldn’t make much sense to players for gear to have no stats at all/

OP, you are wrong because the build is intended for teams. When you play with teams, there are 4 other factors that determine your success; the other four people in your team. You can’t predict those factors to make definite statements about how one person’s build in that team will be OP or not.

There are builds that are overpowered in a team, especially in the lower tier of PvP.

For example, an easy way to get into the top 1000 in PvP is run a necromancer build, whose only goal is to pressure a midpoint bunker. Bunkers can’t win against a necromancer 1v1, they will eventually call for help and you can cap side points by the pressure it causes in positioning.

That’s what is so great about this game, some builds can be completely useless but become very powerful when played in synergy. For me, I find immobilze ridiculously overpowered. You can immobilize people right before the trebuchet hits or hammer and they can’t dodge without a condition cleanse, not even stun break frees you.

And I realize there may be better builds overall, this is the beauty of the game. Many builds are viable. Some builds are ridiculously overpowered to where it would be stupid to run something else, thankfully that does not happen often in this game.

I appreciate everyone’s feedback, I’ve since been adjusting the build to everyone valid and constructive criticism. Please do not feel you guys were being jerks or not, legitimate points were made that you can’t really predict what will be OP before a game releases; I can’t wait for the expansion to try this out though.

So it needs teammates with you to be efficient, or am I understanding this wrong?

It’s more of spike support, you need to watch the field and apply immobilize at the proper times or use bane signet; use shield to stop resurrects and such. The vulnerability is team based. Applying immobolize at the proper time is what can flip a battle.

YOu can adjust based off your team setup, you can go more defensive or less condi cleanse if you have a water ele on the team. Like taking shelter, using soldiers instead and going 4/6/0/0/4 by making it power focused. The retaliation does a lot of damage with more power and is much more survivable against damage… but it’s weak against conditions. So it all depends on your setup.

The expansion makes it much more stronger by merging traits together.

The mere fact that you aren’t specced into Valor and are running Signet Heal completely obliterates your sustain. You WILL die if anyone looks at you. That, quite literally, is a glass-cannon build.

Also, if you take say Longbow/Hammer, you have virtually no swiftness thus making it difficult to disengage fights or even re-engage when your Judge’s is on CD.

Edit: By no means am I saying it’s “perfectly” balanced but you’re not taking into consideration the weaknesses of running that spec(Mobility/Sustain from Valor and Shelter)

The rune gives you 25% speed, mobility isn’t an issue. It’s a team spike build, not a 1v1 or roamer build. I run the current version in tournaments today and do just fine, even in the high end PVP bracket. The weakness helps against fighting against classes like mesmer and thief. That’s the intention with the build, high base HP so it’s more resistant against conditions. IN the expansion, you can take shelter if you want since they nerfed the condition removal.

It’s no different than meditation guardian, where mobility drastically decreases after first burst… that’s a problem with guardians in general.

I just wanted to point out that there is a signet based build for guardians that is strong in tournaments even today against heavy condition based groups which is practially like 80% of the meta. It’s more support focused, and not so good with 1v1 but because it has knockbacks and immobilization and vulnerability it is great burst support. It’s also great against preventing burst, because signet of judgement applies instanst AOE weakness for 50% reduced damage and crits, even while stunned and passively reduces damage by 10%.

Very strong build, high base HP which makes condition builds weaker against you and lots of burst. Ideally now you use the scepter/focus to cast shield first wait about 1.5 seconds, immobilize, smite, teleport and sword spike… does about 10-15k damage spike in a period of 4-5 seconds when done successfully.

Just on the first Virtues Of Justice + Teleport Sword #2

3 seconds of Immobolize, meaning they CANNOT DODGE the sword spike without condition cleanse. I don’t even need to use the scepter first anymore, it just does it automatically.

Because the 3 second is applied from signet of wrath in a trait, it will activate a light aura, which should apply retaliation to you, increases damage again by 10%.

6 stacks of vulnerability
10% increased damage to burning foes
25% more chance of critical damage against burning foes, which means you can get about the same level of damage as a berserker for the first unavoidable burst.

COMBINED WITH A SHIELD:
Knockback provides crippled, which slows the enemy and provides a 10% damage boost.

I know pointing this out may cause it to be nerfed, but it’s doubtful. They likely will not skill balance until after the game ships. But when the expansion hits, you can have fun with the overpowered build.

I had the same issue, there is a trick you can do in Windows to fix the mouse issues rendering horribly on 4k displays by simply having magnifier open, even at 100% (or mouse trails)

But apparently if you run any of those with the game, the mouse completely dissapears. You’ll need to turn magnifier off and mouse trails if you’re using that.

Great, figures after reading how 3-d vision was for Guild Wars 2 I finally decided to buy a new 3d display and it just so happens it’s been broken for almost 2 months now… oh well I guess; it’s doubful they will ever fix it since it’s such a niche group.

From what I’ve seen of screenshots, reading the UI at 4K can be a problem (the UI does not scale up at those higher resolutions).

I’ve never paid any attention to anything 3D…..pure marketing gimmick, IMO.

It may be a gimmick, but now that screens are at 4k you’ll be able to view 1080p per eye which makes a huge difference in 3d.

And more video games support it than video, I got it for about the same price as a non 3d TV.

Also you can’t buy a small TV for 4k. You need at least 65 inches, and you will need to be at least 6 feet infront of it with 20/20 vision to see the difference. If you’re using a 4k monitor, you will need it 2 feet away from you as long as it’s 28 inches or larger.

The game has excellent 3d vision, such as the mouse cursor being depth aware and the skill combat damage actually floats above the target.

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if there is anyone who also play the game on a 4k display on their couch. I just got a new tv, which will support 4k and full 1080p each eye on 3d which will be pretty amazing but I was wondering for those who already have this set up have any tips for me or anything extra I need to do before starting this.

My rig is currently a sli x 2 nvidia gtx 980 and a i7-4990k 3.5ghz, but overclocked to 4ghz. I run the game at max settings in 4k resolution at 40 fps in town and 120 fps in PvP matches, so I was wondering how much 3d would make a difference.

Trolling players in Ranked Matches

I’ve had a total of 3 matches in the past 2 days where there will be a troll.

  • He/She will go to undefended nodes and not finish captures
  • Simply watch on the side while other team captures a node (possibly afk?)
  • Down players and let them revive themselves
  • Just aimlessly chat and argue in team/map chat

Am I the only one experiencing this? are there more trolls now? Is it because of the sale? Did players create cheap alt. accounts to troll in PvP?

I just want to know if I’m the only one experiencing this. It was just 3 times, but I feel like its more than enough for me to want to ask the community.

No, it’s not because of the sale. They don’t even see the PvP button until like level 21, and I doubt new players will queue for a ranked match that early.

It’s more likely that your rating has tanked and you’re in a rough spot where teammates don’t take the game as seriously.

I understand you want this armor set added back and it most likely will in the future.

But you must also understand that there are many players like myself, who were originally promised exclusive PvP skins and legendary weapon skins but instead got completely shafted by implementing rewards tracks which if you were to play actively it would take you over an entire year just to get the materials, when it takes less than six months for it in PvE.

Thousands of hours of PvP, and I’m not any different than someone who has played PvE for 600 hours, the only difference is they look more progressed in PvP than an actual top of the line player, simply because there is virtually no rewards in PvP at all.

The only thing we have to prove that we existed during the old system is those exclusive armors. If they put those back into the game, then all those thousands of hours people played during the old times are literally just thrown out of the window.

I got a new video card, and one of the features of it is to superscale your resolution up ro 4 times of what it is. Since I already had a 4k monitor, susperscaling to 4k is pointless.

So I was wondering, would it be possible to go higher than 4k? Apparently you can, it appears the GTX 970 can support up to 7680×4320 and I took a screenshot of how it would look in Guild Wars 2:

It’s just scaled so yeah it can do it because it’s NVidia doing it, not gw2 itself, you can scale it as high as hardware allows

I do 4k dsr on a 1080p 40inch tv, and it lookes and runs great.

I get about 90-100fps playable at 4k on a non 4k monitor with sli’d 970’s.

I wonder what fps you get at 8k.. LOL

At 8k resolution I get about 20 frames per second on max settings with just one card in an open area. Later this week I’ll have 2 of them in an SLI so I suspect it will go around 40FPS or so, but if I add model limiting it could probably stabilize to 50-60.

I would love to see your giant image, except my monitor is not able to do that resolution, therefore I won’t see it the way you do. You’re incorrect on that, you can see a noticeable difference on a downscaled 8k image to 1080p, then a true one. It is a very common technique, especially in movies to make things seem more clear. Ever wonder why Movies are so clear and TV shows don’t look as good?

Also, I only have a 4k monitor, and I can tell a drastic difference between 4k and 8k, despite the fact my monitor does not support it.

Nope, clearly it is not allowing people to view without a Live account.

No, it’s not that. I tested it on a iPad without OneDrive on it and it worked fine.

Regardless though, the Attachment finally showed up on the post so I guess it’s not needed anymore.

I got a new video card, and one of the features of it is to superscale your resolution up ro 4 times of what it is. Since I already had a 4k monitor, susperscaling to 4k is pointless.

So I was wondering, would it be possible to go higher than 4k? Apparently you can, it appears the GTX 970 can support up to 7680×4320 and I took a screenshot of how it would look in Guild Wars 2:

Might be as well a software problem; “brand new” computers tend to have a lot of bloatware with dubious functionality, and I won’t be surprised if some of it “improved” your keyboard experience.

Seriously guess this is the problem. If you’re not putting in too many inputs via the keyboard Gw2 would not be dodging………period fullstop end of the story.

There is no reason Gw2 would decide to double dodge on this one persons computer. What is more likely is that he has some type of built in macro on the keyboard that makes multiple inputs per button push.

A noob owning a computer full of bloatware is 1000x’s more possible than the Gw2 code having anything to do with this.

How many computers have you built? Personally I’ve built about 2 a year for well over 10 years now.

Right on the money there, I only buy Microsoft OEM computer or build them myself. Those manufacturers score licensing deals to pre install bloatware on your computer to cut costs.

They already have a system in place that does this in the arena games, it has significantly reduced 4v5 matches. So yeah, the new expansion isn’t going to fix what has already been fixed.

Funny how a similar farm was at Skyhammer in PvP for almost a year and gets fixed , no one got punished as well. But god forbid, this happened in PvE and got fixed significantly faster.

Honestly the default models in ranked has reduced the asura population in PvP so drastically that even in unranked pretty much everyone is human from my experience.

They will probably do a small feature pack, but don’t expect much. If they give us too much for free then people won’t buy the expansion.

That philosophy is flawed because there are plenty of features that you can’t simply lock to buying the expansion (like the condition damage fix) and implementing a pre-expansion patch actually increases sales because it makes players return because you don’t have to pay for the game after you purchased it once.
