I don’t understand this, all games desired players to keep playing repeatedly, whats so different between GW2 and whatever games?
No matter what mastery is, it is a system to keep players to stay in the game as long as possible. Most games release harder contents and require us to gain new gears, while mastery are there to make us play the game.
Don’t you buy the game to play? At least we are not required to make new gear, i will say it is a fair trade. Why? Try think about it, if new tier of gear release and we have to make new gears. Gear are not the only elements that worry most players, many of us need transmute charge, black lion salvage kit or even upgrade extractor in order to upgrade their gears (and looks), thats does cost a lot.
With mastery, yes, we may be locked away from some content, but eventually it will be unlocked by playing normally. What do we mean playing normally? Anything that gain experience in new map or existing map. Is that really a grind? Maybe or may not, its all depends.
But it is dump, if playing the game normally is grind, why do you even buy a game if you are not going to play the game normally?
Quick reminder for Anet : please put a warning before anyone buys a WvW piece of gear so newbs don’t get screwed.
To OP : Gear that can be neither salvaged nor forged is bought from WvW.
Now you have 2 solutions :
- spend gold to buy upgrade extractor on the gemstore
- spend gold to buy a new set of strengh runes.
It is also a quick and easy way to take out a credit card and buy gem for extractor.
I know not everyone can pay cash, but it is quite affordable to buy gem with cash rather than spending the hard earning golds.
Anyway, its one more option really.
Did you buy it from WvW vendor? or from temple vendor?
Both vendor armor are not salvageable nor selling.
who arw you to say something thats not even revealed yet? How is mastery point going to influrence our game play is yet to confirm.
And i don’t mind if we need mastery lv to do content. Afterall it is to play the game rather than rebuild the gear. Don’t we all buy the game to play? If the system is there to encourage us to play rather than forcing us to upgrade our again and again. It is not necessary bad thing imo.

I like both season 1 and season 2.
Season 1 was a good memories to me, especially fall of lion arch and the epic battle to Scarlet. The disappointment is the replayability. Missed is permanent lost to veteran or a plot gap to new players.
Season 2 was a success to me, pay for missed content is great, gather players to login during the 2 weeks window. I love the soloable story instance, and i hope the up coming expansion follow the same path, open world contents and event + person story instance. I love the dark atmosphere since the start of season 2, more mature than the childish story (Zhaitan I am looking at you). The enemies are more well designed and less zerg friendly.
Afterall, i will say LS is getting mature and more successful gradually. Great Job Anet.
Since day one we got fractal, it is intended to be the only “vertical progression” mode for players that desired advancement. There you go, and it is the only reason that i never set foot in any of the fractal.

I would rather see damaged armor means something, like reduce effectiveness, reduce maximum health….
If each body armor part give some disadvantage upon damage:
head – 5% health reduction
shoulder – 10% armor rating reduction
chest – 5% health reduction
glove – 10% armor rating reduction
legging – 5% run speed reduction (Out of combat)
boot – 5% run speed reduction (Out of combat)
Double the penalty upon broken gear
Just my though, i don’t mind players running in glass gear, but i suppose they should have the corresponding skill, otherwise please at least mix some defense stat.
This thread made me realise… I never once saw a call or need for a tank in GW1. Ever.
Healers, yes. Batteries, yes. Various things were sought after… but I never saw a call for a tank and never needed to run with one. How odd.
After 2.5 years of non trinity game play. The system has been greatly adopted and accepted by most GW2 players. There are still players that complain no tank or no healer, how odd.
It is a prove that GW2 is such a successful game that even trinity lover still wanna hang around and convince other about their trinity love. For other games, they probably already left.
I’m kinda curious why gw1 worked so much better. We had a healer, warriors could tank very well. Paragon had amazing support. Other classes had great dps/support.
Some people would call that the holy trinity.
Truth though is in gw1 never once did I run into a party while doing a mission or pvp were monk or tank was required. That’s what made it different from other games. The was no “you must have one tank, 1 healer, 2 dps to run this” requirements.
Many people say the holy trinity shouldn’t be in this game and I do 10000% agree with that. BUT gw1 didn’t have one either while making the standard tank/healer/dps system. It just wasn’t noticed as strongly because it was never required to have them all in a party.
Why was gw2 not designed with this same method? A game were basically if your not going full out dps your not very helpful. They stated they wanted it to be kinda like gw1 in the aspects were everyone could do everything but they actually went the opposite direction and made it worse then a regular trinity system because everyone needs full zerker and dps.

Gw2 is a great game but its 2 main problems are the lack of trinity and no real gear progression.
Some people will try to repeat the lie that we have “cc” dps and support but the reallity is that cc is reduced to icebow #4 and support most of the time is offensive support. Games with tank and dps also had cc and support….
The first step would be create a aggro generating mechanic that is control by the player. Could be a sigil or rune set that increases aggro, maybe a trait or signet. With no aggro there is no tank.
Without trinity is obviously a feature rather than an issue. It is an issue ONLY when someone loved to be the player that being needed, being loved and able to endure the terribly boring gameplay, stand still watching red bar or threat matter instead of the enemy.
Yes tanks and healers are the hero of the party, that is no Doubt about it. It is the game made these classes and the one who behind the keyboard a hero. What is a hero in GW2? Someone who got good skill without stacking. They have good dps and also able to watchout for the teammates. Res, reflect, condition removal, aegis, boon these are support and they are not tie to any gear stat.
Anyone any class.can be a hero as long as they act like one, not a hero class made to be a hero.
That is just my through after all.
I actually like everyone being a one-man-army. It makes the game more alive – you can be your own hero and don’t constantly have to rely on others to succeed.

The game is totally allow building tanky or powerful healer. However, there is no formula allow a sure way to maintain hate for holding argo. This is to ensure there is no single class or build that is infact REQUIRED to succeed in contents. All build or stat combo viable more or less are killing speed.
Zerker issues is to blame players’ mind. Trinity is not a solution but just a lazy and boring combat system. Improvement is needed but trinity is and will never be the answer.
Why don’t we wait until more information is released.
We will be spreading false information if your asumsion is not in the right direction.

i don’t glider is mount. It is not a standard traveling tool. To reach unreachable place where no matter on foot, WP nor mount can access. I think you can only activate the glider at some certain location and it also depends on your mastery level to determine you accessavility.
if there tank and healer, i will not play GW2 any longer.
Fight a battle together is team work, nobody can deny it.

i have always wondered why GW2 combat is so much better. Because we dont require tank and healer that makes the combat flow more like action game.
its my opinion anyway, my opinion don’t make it a truth, so is yours OP.
I bought a 2nd account during the big discount.
I made a new character and experienced the NPE from 0 and she is now lv26, i am still having fun. Not to mentioned that i have 10 lv80 and 2 early levels character on my 1st account.
Trait system is both good and bad to me, i like i can acquire the skill by doing PvE stuff, especially upon map completion. My 8th character was made right after the trait system overhaul, had a lot of fun. Now almost all trait acquisition is killing this or that really make me sick, since then all the new alt only buy traits, totally defeated the original idea to make the maps more crowded.
i support this. i have waste quite a lot of charge just because the preview is flawed.

Maybe you will asked how did you died during the character creation. That may determine the new personal story route.
This is the reason i held back for playing Charr. The four leg run does look stupid and slow. i prefer an option to toggle 4 leg/2 leg run animation.
Finally leveled a lv80 Charr as my 10th max level cha as engineer. It is becasue engineer kit is the only possible way to hold a weapon all day long to stow the 4 leg run.
Anet have no idea how many players were holding back to Charr by the stand pose and 4 leg run. Yet they are not happy with the lower player base on Charr race.
It do seriously require some attentions.

My personal goal in GW2
1. 100% map completion – DONE
2. Play through all race personal story route
3. Craft a legendary GS – DONE
4. Equip a legendary GS – DONE
5. Create 2 different race character for each class at lv80
6. Decorate all character to totally satisfaction
7. Buy and play the all expensions will be released
8. Create 2 different race of each additional new classes
I don’t see it as under tuned. The game is not developed with dedicated healer in mind, non of the combat mechanic is designed to require healer role. Healing is just one part out of the defense system. There are also CC, reflection, block, dodge etc active defenses in players sleeve. Therefore, healing is only the last resort after the failure of CC, reflection, block and dodges.
When a game is out for 2 years, the contents are more or less remain the same, players are much skillful and able to handle the threat by active defenses, that demoted healing into a back plan for sustain rather than healing.
Asking to increase healing power to a major stat during combat, is breaking the whole combat mechanic into ground and build it up again. 1) it will take a lot of time, 2) it will need a major rebalancing, 3) it will demote the game back towards trinity that MOST players hated to see.
Once i recall before the game launch, GW2 is promoted to increase active defense to a level that minimize the needs of healing, and therefore we don’t have a healer class since day one. Down side of this design decision is why healing power is not a major stat of player choice.
i rather they give us a specialization that allow us to use a single 1 hand weapon with both hand. Promote the weapon stat to approx. 2 hand weapon and give us new skill 4 and 5. After warrior are master of weaponary, let us use 1 hand weapon withoit a need for off hand weapon.

Imagine Starbug started a promotion. Anyone who provide free permenant special drink membership to those customers that visit them during the 2 weeks promotion period. Who failed to visit will not able to biy that special drinks unless pay for the membership.
They put the promotion on web site, newsletter announcement etc. You didn’t follow the web nor the newsletter. Months later you that you missed the free offer, do you think you have the right to complain not getting it for free?
All i see the 2 week free unlock LS2 is made so to keep players login and play during LS period. If it is always free there is no point to login and follow tight the LS story.
try think of it the other way around.
LS2 is actually paid content but player get it for free by login during the 2 weeks window.
It only looks weird now.. i often do hit but the wrong way (the animation..) so its still a hit but kinda looks wrong..

I thought they just speed up the upward slash animation, the original slash was always hit from a wrong way since day one IMO.

To my understanding
Looks like a specialization is a whole new trait line. 3 minor traits and adept, master, grand master trait. I guess for example Druid will be the 6th trait line that add vit and boon duration. I suppose you have to decide whether you take natual magic or druid. Upon adding trait points to druid, you gain acess to staff, druid heal, utility skills and elite.
If my guess is correct, it is possibly a testing ground for new weapon also. Adding new weapon can come along with new specialization, new trait and skill without messing up our existing traitline.
When adding new weapon with new speciality, they can simply copy an existing traitline, replace some traits. And i can see they don’t necessary lock specialization out for below lv80. It will be a choice while leveling up. At this point i am more lean towards we can have specialization as early as possible.
i was a bit disappointed when only one specialization is confirmed. But if my guess is close enough, i think it is a clever move towards horizontal progression. I will keep watching.

You: No i can’t….
He: Why?
You: Because I can’t take 1 hit from him.
He: But you have full ascended armor, max level….
You: I am not a tank, we need a tank seriously…
He: You have active defense skill…. don’t you?
You: Yes I can take couple hits but we still 1 healer short, you know the burst heal…
He: But you said you have killed him countless of time, you even have legendary…
You: Well, I was, but I am no longer able to do so since Trinity is reintroduced… We need a tank and a healer now.
He: So what am i going to do?
You: Wait here, until a tank and a healer show up, please excuse me.
The dark side of the Trinity was always its mandatory nature, in order to do the content at all you needed a tank and a healer.
The problem in GW2 isn’t that we don’t have the Trinity it’s that we have an AntiTrinity.
If you want to support the team as a healer or go full meat shield as a tank there is no viable option to do so. It is always better to run zerk or just cheese the mechanics. The AntiTrinity restricts freedom of play in much the same way the Trinity did, you don’t have a real choice. You can run zerker and the fight will be as easy as it can be for your skill level or you can run anything else and the fight will be torturous regardless of how good you are.Because GW2 encounters are designed for free for all parties, allowing real tank and healer builds into the game as options would only effect players IF they were vastly better than straight up dps. Even then it would only be in the form of LFG requests like the “EXP zErk” requests that we already see, and while those can be annoying they fall firmly under the community wisdom of “Make you own party if you don’t like it.”
You know what? The bad side of trinity is whatever class i am playing i need somebody to baby sit myself. Being a tank or a dps need a healer to watch over, being a healer and dps need a tank to take the damage, being a dps is even more pathetic, need both healer and tank otherwise is useless.
GW2 is a game that everybody responsible for themselves. I proud of my own character, i don’t need someone to take a hit for me, i don’t need that extra heal. What i can’t do is, i can’t do it alone.
A party is there to do things together, a little bit of offensive buff, a little bit of defensive buff, heal a little here and there, RES, a little CC, thats more than enough to make up good teamworks.
I love the nature that in GW2 any 5 players are good to beat a dungeon. This run we have more damage dealer, we can finish the run faster, tomorrow we have more support, the run is more forgiving, the next day we have some newbies, okay, bring some more support. We have this flexibility in party mixing and this is amazing experience over the never change 1 tank, 1 healer, 3 dps combination.
I do hope to get a Focus as new specialized weapon.
Why not allow warrior to become a spellsword? Back in GW1, I main a W/E and use focus as off hand weapon.
GW2 was my second mmo after ROM and I experienced worst dungeon system there that are just tank trash and healers…tank tank tank

Back in the days where we have LS season one. I discussed with my friends that i think it is a lead in to tease player to buy an expension. I think season 2 is perfect acting as an introduction of Mordermoth. It made me want to fight Mordermoth badly.
i think the problem is longbow and shortbow legendary are too feminine. On the other hand, sunrise, twilight are quite generic and fit both male and female character.

These are jokes to me, craft an ascended and apply any named exotic is so much better.
i agree with the Charr running issue whole heartedly. I have been trying to create Charr characters with many classes and engineer is the only one i am can keep. Yes because of weapon kit i can kept him running with 2 legs.
I played ranger in dungeons about1- 2 months after launch when I was kicked from a party and someone said to me do never knockback a group when multiple ppl are meleeing. I got the message and tbh it was sheer ignorance on my behalf…

Have you read any of the posts I’ve written in this thread? I already listed other classes who are able to knockback, I also explained that it’s more annoying with rangers as they knockback farther. I also listed situations in wvw not open world zergs, where I kind of expect noobs to be around, but it’s not just noobs who use that skill, seemingly oblivious to what mess they can cause.
Yes, that skill should be nerfed or have an (negative) effect on the rangers as I can only educate people that often before I grow to hate the class.Edit: Or just live with me hating rangers, who cares anyway?
Some of my best friends in this game are rangers, btw.

Every player have their own measurement of grind. I remember my first and favorite MMO: PSO 1 (@2000). The game had 4 maps only (around 3~4 zones and each zone got about 3~4 variable), the lv was originally max at 100.
There are hundreds of special weapon skins, the game has no TP, no face to face trade, no item mailing. The drop rate was huge RNG, mostly below 0.01% and loot table are separate into 10 IDs, that means you want an items out of your ID table, you have to find someone got different loot id to yours. You can’t trade by mail, nor buy from TP. Your only option is loot or trade by dropping items on the ground.
Then the game added lv101 to lv200, remake the map to a ultimate mode. Adding another hundreds of rare skins locked inside this ultimate mode, and render all your super fancy weapons pre-ultimate mode useless. Most terrible thing is leveling experience needed. After 300 runs i was at lv117 only…. same maps over and over again…

What did I want out of this game?
I want a game that i am able to make a lot of characters, different looks, mix and match while i don’t need to play like a job to keep their gear uptodate in order to catch up the latest contents – Check
I want a game that i can define all my characters’ role by myself instead being forced by trinity tank / healer / dps – Check
I want a game that promote coop rather than killing each other in PvE, kill stealing, nob stealing etc – Check
I want a game that keep story progress every once a month or 2 – Checked
Why are you here and not in any other game?
Roles are self defined, not restricted by class (hated the armor class must be tank, cloth class must be healer or dps sort of things), we are free to make a lot of builds, and most of them are viable in PvE contents (not optimize!!!)

GW2 is not perfect i admit, but she is pretty much the only MMO that suits me on the market so far.
It is not overlook, different armor got different mesh, and the mesh from different set may or maynot able to fit perfectly. The more armor style, the more harder (huge workload) to fix different armor mesh one by one. So we have to live with it.
