Do you know that GW1 used to have just as many char slots as it had classes? Or that each addon on came with roughly the same play time worth of content (either full continent or a plethora of instances?) and that the only exp that didn’t feature new classes was actually cheaper at launch than the rest of its predecessors?
I certainly hope you aren’t implying anything here, since it would be an Appeal to Tradition. It’s a logical fallacy where one argues ‘well its always been that way so…’. I’m not saying that ANet should or shouldn’t stick with what they did previously, I’m just pointing out that saying what they did do is in no way an argument or evidence for what they will or should do.
YOU KNOW SOMETHING IS WRONG WHEN YOUR ENTIRE FIRST PAGE IS PRETTY MUCH COMPLAINTS
I’m not sure if that’s a reasonable measure of something being wrong. Clearly there are players that aren’t happy, but then again we saw just as many threads when they released the Dragonhunter.
HoT expansion: solving veterans' anger?

To rephrase what I posted in another thread:
If you activate any of these packages on an account that already own GW2, you get 1600 gems (€20 value) for free in addition to anything stated on the preorder page
Problem solved. Packages wont change, they dont need to do anything in the setup of HoT. Just check if the buyer has GW2 on the account that buy it, provide gems, done. Everybody happy. They can do this easily retroactive for anyone that already bought it.
I was thinking Character Slots, but hey gems aren’t too bad either.
Fanboys, keep raving about how the price is fine.
The fanboys aren’t the ones raving… let’s face it, the fanboys aren’t the ones making hundreds of identical threads. Also whose saying the price is fine? I’ve been saying: we don’t know about the content and as such cannot reasonably infer if it’s worth it or not. Other’s have been saying: stop being entitled.
If I won't buy HoT. What can I play in HoT?

Not sure about the Guild Halls. But you’ll get he WvW and PvP changes.
No. If applied to existing GW2 account you get:
Access to GW2 HoT
and that’s all. No additional character slots.
Yeah ANet should just give all existing players 2 free character slots. Hopefully that will make them feel ‘rewarded’.
If we can’t say that it’s not worth 45 euros because we haven’t played the expansion, why can you say that it is worth 45 euros even though you haven’t either?
Good point, everyone should stop talking about if it’s worth it or not until we learn more. Also who said it is worth 45 euros? All I’ve seen so far in this thread is people like you saying it isn’t worth the money because you ‘feel’ it.
Not really.. it’s technically true of course – you can keep playing the base GW2 until the doomsday without paying extra.
Wait… you mean this isn’t Doomsday already? ‘Cause that’s the impression I’m getting from about 5 minutes on these forums lol.
The sky is falling the sky is falling!

My issue is that I can’t seem to buy it no matter how much I try. Neither the in-game purchase nor the website work for me, both just give errors.
Seems their servers are being hammered.

$50/€40/£35 is too much for an expansion (0)
I know there’s a lot of arguments about whether this is true or not, but I just want to know if this is your biggest issue. (also, includes if you think an expansion can cost this much, but that HoT doesn’t have enough to justify it.)I want to buy Heart of Thorns on it’s own (1)
again, no arguing, just mention if this is what you want to see. may, however, be related to:
It seems to me that these issues are being combined, or more accurately the: I want to Buy HoT on its own… so I can pay less. Let’s face it if ANet added a new version made it $50 and said: this version doesn’t contain the core game, then players would complain that ‘why does it still cost so much’.
Well I applaud the slightly-more-creative-than-average-I-quit-thread.
But hey give ESO a try, maybe GW2 just wasn’t for you. After all if GW2 isn’t giving you entertainment (i.e. the purpose of video games) then you really shouldn’t have to play it.
The forums are never happy.
This unhappiness is not confined to the forums.
Ok then. The human race is never happy (see Negativity bias).
Even when they become happy is doesn’t last very long (see hedonic treadmill)
By that logic, I want a refund on the 2nd copy of the core game I didn’t want or ask for.
Since it costs you $0 sure why not!?

We don’t know, wait for more information before you decide to purchase.
… Now if everyone would just take the ‘we don’t know enough’ into considerations while complaining about the price…

So… Just to clarify… did an Anet dev comment on the first page of this thread to mock us and then not respond to any questions?
You’re kitten right he did ! Bunch of amateurs.
I think I’ll be saying this a lot: offense is never given, but always taken.

You don’t have to preorder it. In fact I don’t see the digital version disappearing (physical collectors edition is another story). Frankly I think not pre-ordering is a good thing, gaming has adopted pre-order culture too easily.
If you have doubts then simply wait until release, there will undoubtedly be a bunch of people giving feedback and providing reviews. So you can make a informed decision of whether you want to buy it or not.

The problem isn’t that we don’t have any options, the problem is that we have to consider them.
Paying €45 and not even getting access to the new class is terrible marketing no matter what.
Do you have to pay for the revenant separately?

I’ll buy it in any store!
Assuming the core game was included in the overall cost. ANet has stated that the core game is a free addition, i.e. they didn’t calculate it into the end price.

how is this even relevant?
If people are complaining about the price it usually comes down to value for money. The comparison is somewhat relevant (your mileage may vary since movies around here are a kitteneaper).
The forums are never happy.
The issue here is though you can spend $50 and get 5 character slots and an empty bank (and honestly just transfer all your non-account bound stuff to the new one), or you can spend $50 and get to use your current characters and stuff.
Adding 2 char slots and 2 bank tabs if you owned the game would have been a nice “Thank’s for playing.” Then:
1)people who didn’t own this game could have bought this expansion for the $50, getting the original and the expansion (getting the new account).
2)People Who owned the game would have thought they were getting something for already having played (still for $50) and staying loyal
3) They could still have the special edition pricing tiers with the additional stuff offered
The problem is they basically told the veteran players “we’re going to charge you the same for less”
I’m not sure there’s anything ANet could do that wouldn’t cause some players to complain.

You’re right… mind you there’s always going to be someone who’s unhappy no matter what.
Can I have your stuff?

Did you actually read OP? He said he’s quitting because of the sarcastic comment from John Smith. You appear to be off-topic.

Eh… I’m eyeing that Ultimate Edition… bloody hell the Dollar → Rand exchange rate is horrid. Still probably get it though. Maybe Deluxe though…
Is this some nuance of the Living Story I missed? Where does it say Mr. Sparkles and Garm weren’t taken on the mission?
Probably from the cinematic.
Legendary armor ! (dreaming)
Beat me to it XD
According to the post , the PC Gamer show is from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7). This is 2:30AM to 4AM in the UK, and 3:30AM to 5AM in Central European (Summer) Time. So you might want to get some refreshments.
edit: The actual PC Gaming show is billed to start half an hour earlier, at 2AM UK/ 3AM CEST.
So it’s not clear if this first half-hour will contain any information/trailer/colin, or just be half an hour of fireworks, dancing, bloke on stage saying “yeeeaahh come on”, etc.
3 AM… yeah I’m not going to be able to watch it.
That might be an historic moment, the first time anyone ever actually praised the Zhaitan fight. Truly a moment to behold.
Mechanically it was not that great, but boy was it a visually impressive fight.
1.What do the dragons over all threat? Tyria the world? or Tyria the continent?
Well they don’t threaten Tyria, in fact they seem to play an important role in bringing stability to Tyria. However they do have the horrible habit of destroying all advanced civilisations whenever they rise. Probably as a side effect of their original intent, to consume magic which requires minions to collect some of the magic that is trapped in magical artefacts (in the case of Zhaitan at least).
If its just the continent, could we try and move to elona or cantha somehow (similar to above) until they are done and go back to hibernation?
They seek out magic, unfortunately unless you can rid Elona or Cantha of magic they’ll arrive eventually.
My theory for their placement is simply that they ate all the magic and in doing so magic got scarcer and scarcer so they all started to converge on the last area that had magic.
2. Do the dragons affect the area known as The Mists?
As far as we can tell not directly, or at least we probably won’t be seeing and ED in the mists. But Zhaitan can pull spirits of the dead from out of the mists, and the Sons of Svanir were able to enter the mists via one of the Norn shamans.
3.Glint had eggs. We know atleast 1 hatched (although not sure if it survived) and another egg is around (Living Story) So can the Elder Dragons lay eggs like their champions? If so, could they hatch and do the same thing the current elder Dragons are doing? Or are the current champions actually their children now?
We don’t know much about Elder Dragon biology. We do know that the minions of Zhaitan could not reproduce (being head has that effect), Primordius’ minions could replicate but that wasn’t strictly reproduction either.
A theory is that the eggs were from pre-corruption or from soon after corruption which would possibly mean the eggs were already… inside her (which seems like the wrong terminology) and were corrupted in part. We don’t know if we could still produce more eggs after her corruption (if she was even corrupted).
So If we did kill all the dragons, what would happen to the world known as Tyria? Would a new threat appear? Would magic just go out of control?*
We don’t know either. There seems to be hints that the world filled with magic isn’t a particularly nice one. We know from stories of the Jotun and Doric that too much magic tends to lead to war and strife, but it could also cause the world itself to undergo undesirably changes.
- Mordremoth: Destroying the world
Where do we learn this again? From what we can tell Mordy had in fact returned life (plant life mind you) back to the Maguuma Wastes, so I always assumed he’d cover the world in mordem-forests.
Myself and a few friends have come to realize that most of the stuff coming with HoT that we care about, is actually coming with this patch and not the expansion.
Depends on what you’re interested in. I’m looking forward to the story myself and some new PvE content.
I vote for: It’d be the best if a certain someone just died through the crash in the Maguuma Jungle. It would be tragic, people would probably party – I guess we’d survive this loss.
Would that make us the supreme-commander? That could be interesting, mechanically and narratively.
Although I’d prefer if a certain someone got corrupted and then we got to kill them.
This is so that people with lots of money can’t have a full set of Ascended armor, with a decent selection of Ascended weapons in 20 minutes. Then have nothing further to work towards, and get bored after playing a couple of hours with all “best in slot” stuff. This is the same reason that Legendaries are such a pain to make. If you can get the absolute best stuff in the game in a few minutes, you probably aren’t going to play for long. Of course the fact that you can buy Legendaries kinda flies in the face of all this. But Anet is not always consistent, IMO. Some of the things that they do don’t make sense to me.
People with lots of money just buy matts on the Tp to get around the time gate.
So it’s basically a fancy gold sink.
Well BogOtter’s speculation was many moons ago, so it’s looking unlikely (granted we didn’t see all of the new LA but by the same merit we also didn’t get to vote on what we call the prison camp).
As for a small event… I hope so.
Evon Gnashblade decided to put in the store. That’s pretty much the lore around most gemstore items.
And rightly so. Why do you expect good loot to drop from a chest that only requires you to press f to open it, after someone else discovered it?
I never expected good loot from the chests, in fact if you look at my posts you’ll see that I expect very much the opposite.
The underground bosses during the breach have a significantly higher droprate of the books compared to chests.
Thanks for the information I guess.
Don’t know yet. Some think we’ll kill Mordy at the end of the expansion story other think it might be at the end of S3.
Hey,
So I am able to buy the sinister insignias in SW but when it comes to finding/purchasing the recipe to make sinister gear using the insignia; where do you get that!? I bought an ascended shoulders recipe from the laurel merchant and verata’s gear wasn’t one of the options.
Any help is appreciated
I got mine from the TP. The RNG is a bit iffy on Verata.
I have to disagree on the RNG part because I think ANet did a good job there.
The fact that you can choose which recipe you want from the recipe books means you only need to farm 6 of the books. If they dropped as regular recipes, like Ventari recipes in Dry Top, your chances to get the 6 recipes for your armor class in your first 6 drops is significantly lower. It also is a little safeguard to make buy outs of certain recipes less efficient.
If I buy out a single verata recipe, supplies can be replenished by any player that gets a recipe book, if i buy out a ventari recipe, its supplies can only be replenished by every 18th drop of a recipe (assuming their drop rate is equal).
Having joined several SW chest-trains, and having opened literally hundreds of chest and only getting about 3 receipts. Well your mileage my vary, but in my case the RNG was very iffy.
you straight up meet him out of the blue before
Unless you play as a Sylvari.
There is hardly any character development with him facing internal challenges aside for like 5 minutes during the vision of what he must do nor history of him aside that he is a firstborn thats it.
Well I think ANet in fact didn’t want to put too much emphasis on the story of Trahearne and more on the story of the PC.
Yet I feel when I listen to him its like I am listening to a robot no emotion is instilled on any situation he is placed.
I know that voice right, kinda creepy. I guess it goes with the necro-thing but still.
We're missing the most obvious legend.

Because he’s not very nostalgic.
Same reason I expect Lord Odran got left out, though he seems like a good fit.
Yeah, I think this has been more of a wow-effect-based-selection-process and not so much a lore-based one. It’s not horrible or anything, but it would have been interesting if you got a Legend from each playable race’s history.
Would have offered a nice in-game method of exploring the racial histories. Although I don’t know how ANet would feel about giving the Rev all those nice story and lore elements.
what about Norn Revenants? since Norn are all about their own Legend….can they channel themselves?
I think the selection process for Rev Legends are very much like the selection process for Catholic saints, being dead is a important criteria.

I spent several hundred gold worth of materials and actual gold.
I’ve made 4 and not spent a single gold.
Mind you I was in a hurry either. Slow and steady wins the race.
Now if only I could feed them 4 times as much bloodstone dust XD
Baby Karkas. Aint they cute?
Until they grow too big to keep in the house…. next thing you know newly rebuilt LA will be in ruins again!
Well is this is a thing I’d be extremely excited.
Or maybe one of the artist just decided to make the sky a bit prettier.

10 minutes? You’re optimistic.
Bah. Your livers clearly aren’t up for the challenge it seems.
I’ve always wanted something more reliable and predictable for my cloth (the gods of RNG can sometimes be very cruel), so I’m always for something like this.
Mind you if they implement something like this I can see cloth prices dropping, and I’m not sure if ANet would want that or not.
If memory serves I did hear something about the living story content after the xpac being only accessible to those that have purchased the xpac, which seems to imply that yes we will be getting Living Story like content.
I’ve never rezzed anyone since hitting 80 for the experience, I’ve done it because it’s a nice thing to do.
