Revenant’s legends are very similar to elite specs. Announcing a new legend and a new weapon for the revenant is not very different than announcing a new elite spec for a class.
So the estimate is 5 legendaries which means we can expect another two weeks of similar amount of information, not including the revenant specialisation…
So where does that put us with the minimum launch time?
3 class specialisation done so that leaves 6 specialisations. So those 6 + 2 more legendaries + Guild Halls (assuming 1 week) + Challenging Content (assuming 1 week again). So that’s at least 10 more weeks, not including more 2-3 week breaks, some lore articles (introducing the Exalted or whatever). They might even do another week on some of the legendary weapons, although at this rate they’ll probably do 1 weapon each week…
I guess I’m feeling a bit unexcited as well…
Or you could just farm the mats in game. That’s what I did and I got all my craftings up to max (maybe spent like 10 gold max?). Mind you it did take me a while…
Welcome back, we kept the lights on for you
(edited by CureForLiving.5360)
Now I remember why I stopped visiting the discussion pages.
Does this discussion make you uncomfortable?
Not at all. It just reminded me of the kind of sad dribble that goes on here and I have nothing to add because people refuse to listen to reason.
In retrospect I shouldn’t have said anything at all but, the desire for validation has a will of it’s own sometimes.
Don’t worry I think it’s kinda silly too to argue about realistic or unrealistic bodies in an escapist medium like video-games where for the most part one seeks to have experiences that are not within the realm of reason in the real world.
Racial skills exist for flavour. They’re purposely underpowered because ANet didn’t want players feeling like they had to select a specific race
There is a story to every event and every zone has a larger, general story, as does some areas within a zone. ArenaNet loves exploration, so if you want to actually know what’s going on, you’ll really need to go out of you way if you want to see everything.
Most event stories are small and isolated and exist primarily to explain why we are doing activity X, Y, Z. As a whole these stories do a good job of giving a feel to the zones, but it doesn’t present particularly complex narrative for example: “centaurs are attacking, help!” which leads to killing centaurs for the next few minutes. Well this tells me centaur aren’t very nice, but in terms of the overarching lore it hardly tells me about the history of the centaur and the humans and there wars. Maybe a NPC will have a few lines of dialog, but those tend to be very short and to the point: centaurs are bad, and we’ve been at war for a long time. This has always been an area that I thought could be expanded with some sort of in-game lore journal, but that’s a different topic.
But as far as zone not stories goes I’d say zones have themes and not really stories. For example what is the main storyline of Lorna’s Pass? Or Gendarran Fields? In the case of Gendarran Fields you could say, well the stories about fighting centaurs, but that’s really more a theme than a story. The same theme appears Kessex Hills, Harathi Hinterlands, and to a lesser extent in other zones.
EDIT:
Sad. And I liked them, regardless of the purpose (
HoT is going to have adventures, which will be, hopefully, a better version of hearts.
Tell more in detail, please

As for the bodies, I’m guessing using sliders would’ve been a wiser choice instead of predefined structures.
Boob size slider XD
I didn’t really notice, but I’m a Charr guy myself.
But for referencing purposes:
female bodies http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/d/d9/Human_female_physique.png
male bodies http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/0/07/Human_male_physique.png
What rare materials are you talking about?
I think he means account bound items and currencies like mystic clovers, legendary gifts etc.
Well with the present system both precursors and legendaries can be sold, so why shouldn’t it be a problem to sell clovers or gifts? In for a penny and all that.
However with the new system where the precursors (to my understanding) will also be account-bound as will the legendary they produce I don’t it it’s so straight forward.
I’d take mounts over gliders every day.
Have you tried the gilder? It was so satisfying in the last beta.
Just as a random example: The Charr supposedly distrust all spellcasters, and part of there beef with the Flame Legion surrounds their use of magic, but they’re perfectly cool with a Charr necromancer heading up a warband, representing a legion to outside groups, and palling around with the Tribunes of the various legions. It doesn’t make sense in the context of the world they created, but it’s a situation where gameplay and story came into conflict, and story won.
That’s more an issue of ANet not liking complicated dialogue trees and a lot of different ambient conversation triggers. That doesn’t mean I like it though.
Using WoW as an example (which I am actually loathe to do, b/c GW2 is so superior, IMHO), the various races have bonuses and are restricted from playing certain classes, but the bonuses didn’t prevent people from playing all available classes on any of the particular races (in that you can see Orc Warlocks, Warriors, Rogues, etc in end game raids). I don’t see why it wouldn’t be possible to implement something similar in GW2, but whether it’s worth sacrificing a small amount of gameplay utility for a small amount of additional story cohesion considering is definitely an open question.
Racial stats bonuses have a negligible impact in PvE however (by all accounts I found by doing a google search). So I guess if what you’re looking for is racial stat bonuses that have next to no impact on actual gameplay…. oh I’ll complain but I’d probably eventually accept it.
Hey, all!
Is there any information about realization of renown hearts in the new add-on?
Not that I’ve heard of. HoT is adding a new zone which will contain the outpost system instead of hearts.
It’s a bit sad to be honest. Without hearts, zones feel a bit soulless. Sure, there are events happening, but you get a better idea of the story through hearts than you do most events.
There isn’t really much in the way of zone stories anyway, hearts or not. Some of the larger event-chains do a better job at presenting story-lite but most zones don’t have a event chain taking them from one side of the map to another presenting a consistent narrative throughout.
The biggest problem I see with mounts is the fact WoW has incorporated them already for years, and it would feel too much like WoW if they did this. Its just not this games style. Something new, like rail cars on a specific track or zip lines might be a better option to consider. Nothing that would allow the character to move it or make an unknown destination.
There’s a lot of interesting ways to make traveling more fun. Zip lines sounds fun.
At 7, you can use underwater weapons while mounted, allowing you to fight while riding.
I’d prefer mounts specific weapons though. Like lances!
Now that I think about it, this could be very interesting. Possible specialisations? A new form of combat (along side underwater and land)? Wish I wasn’t so lazy, could probably have done a big wall of text. Would be fun in WvW, think of two waves of cavalry charging into it each.
Still, we have quite a lot mobility-options for all races,
charr-copter (flying) and steam-tanks (“rails” on land) in charr areas, especially ascalon.
sylvari-seeds (flying) – like in the grove – for slyvari outposts and caledon forrest.
Balloons (flying) and horses (land-routes) in kryta and around human outposts
Bears (land-routes) and giant eagles in norn areas, especially shiver peaks.
And while Asura already have the WP’s and portals, some flying cube-platforms for metrica and other asura outposts would be awesome.
Given that these things are redundant given the Asura WP already in game, I’d say they shouldn’t just work like WP but should show you riding in the Charr-Chopter and show the zone. Although in that case it’s basically a lot of effort for little more than a fancy ride :P
Mounts would be a great addition to the game, I don’t think the naysayers make very good points against it unless they mean flying mounts.
Yeah flying mounts are a no no.
What about being able to pilot boats or aircraft?
Boats and aircraft won’t fits well into the present mechanics, the maps are too small and the problem always with flying mounts is that it takes you out of combat and you never get to experience the map. Although as a different game mode or something it has potential.
Originally, Mordrem Wolves gave retaliation.
But this was apparently “too tough” and it got nerfed to swiftness. Too tough to bring boon removal or heal through retaliation.
Vile Thrashers were also invulnerable if hit in front of them while they spun. But this was changed too. Guess that was “too tough”. Too tough to position yourself behind them as they spin towards you.
And now they claim to be bringing out challenging content? Right, how long until that gets nerfed because it’s “too tough”?
The positional requirements worked OK in group fights, but if you were fighting one by yourself it meant that a fight which should have taken 10 seconds now took 60 because the enemy rarely turned its back to you. It wasn’t tough, it was just ridiculously annoying for solo players.
Not really, since the Vile Thrashers had no range attacked and would spin toward you, all you had to do is dodge out of the way and attack them while they spinned since they don’t change direction of interrupt their own attack. So dodge early enough you get plenty of time to dps them down. Would kinda suck of melee though, since behind them is a trail of torment.
Once again, I’m excited for the expansion.
Unfortunately it’s release is a minimum of a little less than 3 months away.
Going to have to have something to fill that gap. Can’t keep throwing up mirages in place of the oasis – your audience will die of dehydration long before it arrives.
For those who say, take a break, I can’t. I am a guild leader and my members are bored – repetitive weekly events are barely filling the time.
I’d like to see at least minor communication about what is happening with the base game and whether or not we can expect ANYTHING until release time.
How is minor communication about what is happening going to solve your problem of bored guild members?
I’d like a simple yes or no about any possible content so I can plan accordingly.
Ah but if the answer is no, and they say so a lot of players are going to leave. But if they keep it uncertain, then players might stick it out for the maybe.
You’re all insane.
Or simply have a lot of money to spend
Even if they can figure out Death Blossom, how do their figure out Dagger Storm? That’s 8 seconds of whirling around instead of just the 1/4 seconds during DB.
You turn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3F06jMlh-g into something like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyNpp5MVSTA
Easy XD
Wouldn’t really work, as the torso of a centaur (ie where they daggers are being throw from) is at the front of the horse body, not the middle, making it look very weird and wrong to have them spin around the middle of the horse body
Bah I’m still holding out hope! :P
DO you think the Aetherized set will ever come back to the Weapon Specialist?
Probably as a special limited time promotion.
Why is this thread on HoT forum?
Because HoT is synonyms with the nebulous concept of the future :P
About a $100? If that…
Lately just been converting gold because…
I spent nothing on gems. All converted from gold. (Sorry ANet — I’m broke.)
Me too
I have no problem with an OOC weapon swap for those professions as long as I get to save and have a second set of weapons to swap to OOC for my other professions. For example my Mesmer:
I run GS/Sword/Focus most of the time so when OOC I also get a chance to, for example, swap with one click to Scepter/Pistol/Sword/Sword without having to move weapons around in my hero panel.
Win win for everyone.
Rather just let them implement a scalable (weapons, skills, traits, armour. Only the one only the other, some, all etc.) template system, it would fit your needs a lot better.
Yeah something like this would be great
But how are new players suppose to be hinted at to the existence of steam creatures?
So easier content then?

Again, there are realistic limitations to the form; human-like brains or otherwise. To do aerobatics with a centaur would be beyond that acceptable level of suspension of disbelief that is necessary in games and movies.
The I raise you the Rule-Of-Cool to counter your acceptable-suspension-of-disbelief! :P
In GW2 i think theres..maybe one village of friendly centuars?
That we know of!
It’s not about the lore/immersion, it’s about the animations/programming/artwork needed to make all skins, skill animations, emotes, jumping, swimming and so on work on a non-bipedal creature.
This is the extra stuff i was referring to Tachenon.
And yes, horses doing flips is right out, condescending tone, mind it, it otherwise conversations wont go anywhere, like this one. Im not even going to respond to you, with that, im out, have a good day sir and or madam whichever you happen to be.
They’re not horses. They’re centaurs. Things which could not possibly exist anyway, so saying that they can’t do impossible things is, well, kinda silly. Don’t you think?
That’s not being condescending, that’s stating what should be obvious.
I don’t think it’s silly at all, but not because impossible stuff is happening in a fantasy game with magic and dragons.
Try to look at it from the animation stand-point. How, exactly, does one animate a centaur doing a flip? It could only be some jerky, ragdoll-type, legs outstretched kind of thing that would be incredibly poor looking. The point too is not that impossible stuff happens compared to the Real World, but that impossible stuff within Tyria still doesn’t happen in Tyria. Centaurs, like horses, still remain mostly upright. If they dodge, it is a sidestep, not a roll. If they jump, it is a basic vertical leap and not a spin. Their body structure, even within the context of the game, just doesn’t allow them to make the movements required for a Death Blossom. DB isn’t the only issue here either. Pretty much any whirl attack would require some very fancy footwork, and it would clip with a lot of things.
Death blossom is basically just and air flip that spins and hits multiple enemies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHcNZUOAnb8
Why does the centaur have to go upside down? Why not simply leap through the enemies? And if he has to spin, well horses can do that while upright.
Seems they’re going forward with the ‘gemstore is for outfits’ policy.
Well they did say it would no longer be regularly available so expect to see them on temporary sale soon.
I wish Anet had a report feature for people abusing chat. There is only Verbal Abuse for reporting, but i’m assuming that’s for people that directly verbally assault you.
Oh I think it comes down to the same thing really.
Guys. In this game we pretend to be cows in order to train cows to fight predators. We swim while wearing heavy plate armor. We will soon be gliding — through the jungle! No need to watch out for that tree.
I don’t think centaur thieves doing death blossoms is too much of a stretch.
Now. Do you? Really?
It’s not about the lore/immersion, it’s about the animations/programming/artwork needed to make all skins, skill animations, emotes, jumping, swimming and so on work on a non-bipedal creature.
Helms, shoulder, gloves and chest are pretty much the same (although centaurs do have horse faces… but then just copy the Charr stuff I guess). The legs can basically just become some sort of saddle / cover over the horse-parts back (I don’t know horses very well…) and the shoes would just cover all four legs.
Or I guess the chest could be the cover both the human chest and horse back and the legs could cover the four legs (like stock-type thing).
The possibilities are endless!
Still that death blossom XD
Chance to buy specializations individually?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
The problem with that suggestion is that the specializations are tightly linked to the expansion.
How so?
Well it could be a problem say 2 or 3 expansions down the line when no one is playing HoT anymore and has moved on to fighting Bubbles or something. The old content might not feel worth buying or playing but the specialisations might still be appealing.
Probably because of a number of forum threads saying how much they missed going out in the world in Guild Wars 1 to kill bosses to capture elite skills and how they wished that this game had something like it. It appears ANet read those posts and tried to put a similar system in with one of the options this game has, traits and events.
Then everyone complained that they have to play the game. And cannot get everything NAOW!
So they are changing it back. Not sure what I prefer.
They tried something it failed (debatable), tried something else it failed (debatable), now they’re trying something different. So at least they’re willing to try,try again.
Well you can’t ignore the content drought. There really isn’t that much to talk about, and the things people seem to want to talk about has been talked about to death (mounts… zerker…). So there’s a reason people get copy-paste answers.
Also what does cheap game mean?
And yes, he makes a mistake in the story and people die, but it bothers him.
Oh as long as he feels bad I guess that makes it all better :P

That’s not how expansions work. Maybe much later on (after another expansion or two) it would make a bit more sense.
Confirmed it’s not the druid:
https://mobile.twitter.com/GuildWars2/status/605413469643517954GOT DARN ANET ART TEAM KEEP TROLLING!!!!!!!
how’s that trolling?
Trolling is in the eye of the trolled.
I’d love more flame tails! In fact more types of tails overall.
- People who have 300% luck don’t seem very happy about it.
But most of them wouldn’t be happy unless they got a precursor drop at least once a week. So peoples happiness isn’t really the best measure :P
I don’t think it is specialization related.
“Life can be painful, but do not fear the trials you will face. Hard ground makes stronger roots.”
Makes me think about the “Challenging content”
I’d honestly be all for Challenging Content. Revenant is nice, but not really at the top of my lists of things I want to know.
I’m somewhat suprised that the immediate reaction to the possibility of inter-species couples was something along the lines of “but what about teh smexy times, amirite?”
Well this is the internet…
- New Heart of Maguuma minor race reveal
No no no please no!
Eww stop with the Dendrophilia XD
Although those Charr ladies on the other hand… :P
Legendary Armor
What if Ascended Armor were the Precursor for Legendary Armor?
That way, if you already made some Ascended armor you could use that to be the base to make Legendary Armor and thus have armor with variable/changeable stats without wasting the exorbitant amount of time you invested in Ascended.
Vertical Progression would not rear its ugly head as your Legendary Armor is no more or less powerful than an Ascended piece, it just has a bit more variety. Well and a shiny new skin of course.
A similar idea was posted a year and a half ago in reference to Legacy items(quoted for reference).

I like it!
HoT confusing to professional game reviewer?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: CureForLiving.5360
i don’t know what people find confusing about mastery system.
That hidden checkbox XD
Well if Crowfall can have playable centaurs then so can GW2!
But I doubt they’ll suddenly pull a centaur playable race out of nowhere. They’d have announced it at PAX.
So yeah my proverbial-money is on Revenant Legend.
The fact that you have to kill a load of Zhaitans mega powerful minions (e.g. mouth of zhaitan, eye of Zhaitan etc.) to weaken it indicates that the minions of Zhaitan are “part” of Zhaitan. What I mean here is do they have an individual conciousness of their own or are they simply part of one big hive mind that is Zhaitan?
The mouth specifically was Zhaitan’s source of food, so killing the mouths literally starved Zhaitan. So it could be a indirect way of weakening him.
That’s still huge. Let’s assume for a moment they can eat like hyenas and eat bones as well for the marrow (not an unreasonable assumption, given the hyenas that live in Ascalon) and it’s still pretty massive. As Ehecatl pointed out, they simply don’t have the farmland necessary for too big of a population. Add in the fact that they’re apex predators, as well as the fact that females don’t actually like to be sidelined due to pregnancy, and you’ve got 100k-200k Charr in Tyria being a reasonable estimate. There’s only about 3200 tigers left in the world after all, and that’s with only about 7% of their natural habitats remaining. If anything, charr are facing overpopulation for the land they have.
Well that does make more sense…
Still I keep hoping for the Charr to get back to what they do well: going forth and conquering. Maybe in a future Charr expansion (betting on the Blood Legion here).
I think most inteligent species, regardless of origin are likely to be omnivores. Even charr, who absolutely would have started out as pure carnivores will eat some plants in their diet now (for example, strawberries).
Strawberries are probably not their favourite, I’m purely guessing of course, but since cats can’t taste sweet things maybe the same goes for Charr. But what we do know about Charr is that they have a large amount of cattle farming. In fact I don’t recall any crop fields in Ascalon.
It won’t ever happen. The entire point of coming up with new systems is to force people to re-gear so that they will buy more gems to convert to gold.
That’s somewhat cynical. Any evidence of ANets intent or simply an assumption?
And it is highly likely that you will be required to unlock all core specializations before you are allowed to unlock an elite specialization on that character.
So 465 for core + whatever for elite. I’d expect 100 or more for elite.
All we know at the moment is that you need lvl80 for the elite specs nothing more. Its entirely possible you won’t need everything unlocked. Iirc they said for everything its about 465 and 400 from levels, no mention of needing everything unlocked to get elite.
My understanding as well. Although the didn’t mention how Elites would fit into it. They did mention that the numbers were still being worked on, so come release at 80 we could have all the points we need, some of the points, most of the points or none of the points.
