"Reaper" name feedback [not merged]

So… how is Reaper any less generic than the Dragonhunter, which people raged like mad about being so generic?

Raeper is full of possibilities.

Dragonhunter is not.

Reaper fits the genre of the class.

Dragonhunter does not.

Reaper is not two words mashed together.

Dragonhunter is.

For me it was like, how exactly does dragon hunting thematically fit in with guardians which thematically are holy knights?

Yes I can’t wait to hunt down bubbles with my longbow and ground targeted traps as a dragon hunter….

You think we ever get to fight other dragons than Mordremoth and Zhaitan?
That is a bit optimistic.

He has a name, it’s Steve!

It’s alright, just let it go. Seems like majority of players expect all elite specializations to be a natural progression of the base class.

It’s not an unreasonable expectation…

Nothing is obvious about it in my opinion. As I see it, it is petty posters crying because they didn’t get the name they preconceived in their own heads, but that is simply my opinion.

But just because you don’t understand something it doesn’t follow that it’s illogical, silly or naturally confusing. I find that people don’t always get that.

ANet is not a small team but a micro team if you think about it. You want a good expansion AND continuous content. That can’t happen with the numbers they have.

That being said..after all the reveals for HoT, the hype for the expansion died for me.

300 employes is more than a micro/small team.

But how many of them are janitors? Didn’t think about that did you :P

Not sure why people wax nostalgic about LS so much. I guess the “bi-weekly” advertisement worked well when in reality it was 4 “bi-weekly” episodes of LS every six months.

That’s how nostalgia works though.

Darn you and your facts!

The Race is done correctly and fits the Charrs from GW 1. The only problem is that Anet always create armors on humans then export them to Charr without really working on the textures and models. That’s why I only play warrior on my Charr and couldn’t keep up with the leather thief. At least in heavy armor there are some interesting stuff.
If it wasn’t for the dudes playing 90% of the time human/norn females to see plastic boobs maybe Anet could have worked a bit more on Charr’s armor.
But since 2012 it hasn’t changed and even new added armors have the tail clipping issue.

Yeah that Charrmour.

It’s interesting, but I’m not convinced. I’m concerned about slow attacks in modes outside of PvE.

That was my first reaction. It’s not that easy to hit players with fast melee attacks, and while most mobs won’t remove chill, players will. Heck, most mobs won’t even kite.

Seems the greatsword has a pull ability. A bit worried about the cool down (since apparently it’s going to be long), but it could be an interesting way to stop people from kite-ing away.

Well this is the first specialization that suffers a huge penalty for not taking the new weapon along with it. Power Necro’s can’t AOE well without the new GS so I guess we will see a very large amount of GS necros now. Not necessarily a bad thing, just interesting that this is the first specialization that can’t take full advantage without the weapon.

Also they don’t get any new F skill, just different particle effects for their existing F skill… which is odd…

Well not all necros have to be power. Still I see where you’re coming from, the new weapon really does give the Necros what they lacked, decent AOE direct damage. So I’m not sure this will be a must have for all power necros (especially since it seems more focused on group encounters).
Also they seem to be replacing one of the F1 skills.

Only negative I can see with this is that my Mesmer and my Necro are my two favorite toons. How the hell am I supposed to decide which to play in HOT first now?

Simple. Necros are getting a bad-kitten new theme while Mesmers get more butterflies. So Necro obvious XD

WHY is this so cool but guardians get crap dragon hunter?

Oh come on Necros have been needing some loving for a while now.

None of necros current power weapons hit more than 2 targets.

I assume you mean with the default attack?

So glad i have on of everything at 80 xD

And I’ve got 2 necros! Going to move my Condi off on my second necro and then go greatsword on my main. Going to have to get some proper zerker gear though… Eish more ascended grind XD

Using old weapons in a new way

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

CureForLiving.5360

Well I do think that allowing present weapon abilities to change with the spec definitely gives ANet more design freedom. So instead of asking, what do we call a warrior with a staff? They can say, well we like this-theme or that character-idea how can we incorporate that. I kinda feel this might have happened with the guardian, where the design probably started by asking what weapon and what abilities are they were going to give them instead of starting from the Witch/Dragon Hunter archetype and seeing how it can thematically be incorporated into the class.

However. I can see a lot of players being very unhappy about this, probably feeling like ANet devs are being lazy or uncreative or something. Lets face it ‘profession X gets new weapon’ sounds a lot better that ‘profession X’s weapon Y skills are being changed’.

I actually think this is what the warrior spec is gonna do

I hope this is what the warrior spec does. I don’t see any weapon that warriors can’t use right now making any sense for them.

And that’s what I mean by design limitation. If every class has to get a new weapon then you’ll end up with specialisations not being thematically consistent.

good idea, but wont happen imo… creating new skills for existing weapons for each specialization would mean it’s not just a specialization, but a completely new class… and that’s obviously not what they want… they want to adjust current classes and give elite specialization builds new feel, but still keep the basics…

This is a matter of scope then. Instead of giving them all new weapon abilities, how about only giving 1 weapon new abilities i.e. so that the scope is still in-line with other specialisations.

CureForLiving.5360

An MMO lets people hop all over the world to see events and NPC dialogues. Having a band of NPC heroes to help focus what’s going on isn’t necessarily a bad thing (as) such. But in a tale of global disaster, I feel the weight should lie in how the disaster affects the band, not how the band affects the world. We should see the various races rallying, each in their own way; we should see schisms, and epic gatherings (such as the Pact Fleet, short lived though it was), victories and defeats that involve the world. When LA burned, why were NPCs in DR still fretting that the caravan from LA was late? Why weren’t Ministers calling for installation of air defenses and a lockdown on who comes through the Asura gate? Why weren’t Norns who helped in the citizen rescue boasting of their deeds? (Ok, limited game resources for new dialogues and voice acting, yeah yeah yeah).

The biconics should be reacting to the events. Perhaps they could have reasons to be where the high level decisions are being made, and thus us with them, but they shouldn’t be the spunky gang of youths who personally save us all.

Those are some nice examples and if ANet could pull it off it would be amazing. But possibly the scope might be too big, as you mentioned. There’s a lot of dialog and events in the game at present, so how much will need to be changed? Is it enough to add a few lines of dialog here or there? Or should the changes be more substantial. I can definitely see it being possible to add few lines of dialog (although looking at the example in the case of Divinity’s Reach or Hoelbrak it would probably go unnoticed by 80% of the player base).

gem store was updated, have fun with it

What if I already own all these old skins?

Buy a new account and you get to enjoy starting all over again!

I’m really irritated that there is absolutely nothing new today. It’s not like we had much content the last few weeks either.

Weeks? We’re talking about months. Wasn’t the last update Lunar New Year (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lunar_New_Year) and that was in February and it consisted of some old content.

So . . . how are we loving the expansion so far?

Living Story! Don’t give me small pieces of regular content XD
Expansion! Give me some regular content XD

Yeah, I know. Still don’t like it much, you know those illogical human emotions and all. Would love a combination of the two, so we could get some content while they work on expansion content… but there I am going about with my flights of fancy.

At this point, Bellinda’s Greatsword and Rox’s Quiver might as well just stay in the store permanently.

they need content for july…

Do I hear some sarcasm and disappointment about Anets update strategy?

Of course. I never wanted an expansion. I was fine with easy peasy 2 week living story updates, 1 or 2 days to play it and back to wvw. But pve veterans were crying for moar content and an expansion. Now they got it.

Not only did Anet stop giving us some content every couple of weeks, they even make us pay for it. Cant blame them, though, the community asked for it.

May you live in interesting times.
May you come to the attention of those in authority.
And most importantly (and relevant if somewhat paraphrased): May your wishes come true.

was a bit disappointed given May is Jenna’s Jubilee, I hope it won’t pass by uncelebrated.

Jennas 10 year jubilee was in august 2013, considering that she didnt celebrate the 11th year jubilee, i doubt she will celebrate her 12th year, either.
Ask again in 3 or 8 years.

Darn you Jenna! A half decent monarch would have regular celebrations going on throughout the year long forcing the peasants to pay for the opulence through harsh taxation and borderline slavery! Now them Krytan nobility…
Out with Jenna! In with the Ministry!

Time to do something else… I hear the weather is improving outside.. I may even venture out to that scary place.

Oh, you mean this old MMO?
It’s got daily updates

I hear the save system is broken, so when you die you can’t reload.

I prefer buying from the consortium over a greedy Charr.

Consortium support indentured service and is against ecological preservation. Even during the destruction of LA Evon was still able to maintain his business! Evon is the Charr with a plan, the Charr who can!

I voted for Ellen Kiel.

Which is why LA looks like this

I am really happy about this. Lions Arch was a town of crooks, criminals and pirates. They deserved this misery. I wish there would have been no survivors.

Clearly a consortium shill sent to defame Evon and the good people of Lions Arch!

Evon cared about the citizens of LA so much he shut off the portal he was evacuating his goods through before they could follow him.

No! The gates failed! It’s all a result of Elen Kiel outsourcing gate maintenance to shady third-rate Krewes!

I’d be happy if they just did something about the Charrmour.

It’s sad that poor Charr and Tengu’s spines de-evolved over the time since GW1. :<

On the bright side at least they can share armour models.

I’m talking about the proud noble ones who stood tall like men. They appear to have gone extincted. I coulda sworn they were gonna give us an option between the two types of Charr back during development but I either imagined it or they scrapped it. They can’t topple over from anything either way, they have tailz for dat.

Since you already have humans, norn and sylvari who all have similar postures and proportions it only seem natural that you’d want to add some variety to the races. Charr seems to have been chosen to be the non-human race.

Caithe on the other hand, does horrible things at every turn and is celebrated for it.

Would have been nice if they allowed us to slap her at the end of S2. Or at least scold her. Seriously, she stole from me, lied to me, and sent me running from one end of Tyria to the other to try and find her. And you know what, if she’d just sat down and told me why, I’d probably have agreed with her and helped her.
So in HoT I’m going to be “burn all the cabbages!”.

What happens to Orr?

CureForLiving.5360

ANET won’t divide their creative team just to expend resources making a whole edited map.

Pretty much this. ANet has a limited amount of resources, and judging by the overall lack of content recently it seems all of it is going into finished HoT.
Besides from what we know of the story, there’d really be little to no reason that we’d revisit Orr.

Yet we had very cool TEMPORARY content during S1 (I admit, I missed most of it, as I could not keep up with it every two weeks, shame on me).

Well S1 was far more impactful on the world itself. Given that it was the original goal of living world to be sort temporary content that had a noticeable impact on the world thus slowly changing it over time. Practically however players hated it and more often than not it ended up destroying places rather than changing them.

How much are you willing to bet that they won’t remove the old system from the old maps (hearts) and replace them with the new system?

The realization that Anet has limited resources doesn’t seem to come up it seems. ANet can only produce so much content in so much time. If they spent time updating old content you’d get less new content. It’s as simply as that. ANet has stated they’d prefer to add new content than alter old content. In an ideal world they’d be able to update the entire game each time they add something new, however we do not live in an ideal world.

As much as I liked the personal story concept, I have always felt it scuppered the potential of a truly living world.

The problem was that players, surprisingly, were somewhat confused and couldn’t really follow what was going on because new characters and settings were being introduced. So the move to introducing a core-cast was more intended to give some sort of narrative cohesion. As for the true potential of a living world… well the problem will always be the fleeting nature of content. You can’t really have a living world that changes the world and expect all of the content to constantly be available without using things such as phasing that would separate the player base. We don’t necessarily run into the problem is say we do something in one map and next time in another map. But the problem comes with content such as the Battle of LA in which later content will supplant older content. This is the core problem again, updating old content to bring it up to narrative-wise-modernity does mean that content gets lost.

I liked it until I wanted to play with a lower-level player, like a friend or my brother, and couldn’t even be seen. I’ve since changed my opinion on phasing. :\

Yeah that’s bad phasing. Good phasing would do thing like put everyone on the same map (not different maps) but load different textures and character models etc. So instead of loading gloomy-rock-texture-A it loads slightly-less-gloomy-rock-texture-C for a player who has completed a given story step.

Haven’t you noticed that the living story is mostly instanced in chapters? It largely doesn’t affect the main world after season one. It creates problems. Call it boring all you want, but it isn’t sustainable. At least with the current infrastructure.

Not so much the technicalities but the practicalities.

Until ArenaNet decided it didn’t work, and tried using the Season 2 model.

Until ArenaNet decided that also didn’t work, and tried using the “season 3 in a box” HoT model.

Is it me, or do we see a pattern here? Does anyone else think that HoT also will not work?

ANet didn’t decide anything. Players were complaining on the forums and ANet listened. The change is as a direct result of player feedback. The only pattern is that players are never happy.

Like Red Jay said a few posts up, like I said myself, long ago — use the unexplored other half of Orr to carry on with what happens after the end of the Personal Story, accessible only after one has completed the Personal Story. Leave the current ‘Pre-PS’ portions as is. Something for everyone. Hooray.

Simple and Elegant.

That and I’m pretty sure they also said so at the announcement event.

For chat, you can uncheck “map” in the chat list.

I’m pretty sure there’s a built-in hotkey to hide your entire UI (chat, skill bar, map, quests). I’m not at my gaming computer right now, so I couldn’t tell you, but there is a way to do it.

this old trick of limiting players’ experience is scorned upon universally and in fact discourage people playing other characters.

Having less bag space doesn’t really limit the players’ experience…

Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think anyone who previously bought bag slots would complain if they went on sale for 25% off or even if there was a limited-time promotion for an account wide unlock for say 1200 gems.

Maybe some sort of a upgrade? Say pay X gems to upgrade existing slots account wide, buy account wide for 400 gems (base price) + X gems. Cannot upgrade with having previously purchased a bag slot.

This is my thinking as well, though I am more thinking they will not reveal ranger yet because we already know more stuff about it than thief. I think that because we know less about thief, and so far we have had reveals where we only knew the weapons, it seems likely to be thief to me.

The Nightmare Court doesn’t (as of present lore) have an alliance with any of the Elder Dragons. In fact being dragon minions would be pretty much against their core philosophy (they didn’t want to conform to what the pale tree wanted why would they conform to what Mordy wants?).

Does it make sense for Sylvari to become part of the “Dragonhunter” faction if they are minions themselves? Why would they even be accepted?

Well since as far as I know there is no committee responsible for membership into the Dragonhunter club I think anyone could pretty much call themselves a Dragonhunter if they liked.

They seem to have powerful Mesmers in that secret society.

Well the thing about secret societies is that we don’t really know what goes in inside of them. So for all we know the Mesmer collective could be Kasmeer, two random Asura and Hobo-Tron.

Man, it could get pretty dark if Eir is killed, or assumed killed, by a Sylvari and Braham goes all witch hunter on anything dragon related…

From what we’ve seen in the HoT demo Jory is pretty much anti-Sylvari (dead sister and all) so I guess it would be possible for Braham to join her on that side. I guess they’ll be countered balanced by Canach, Rox and Kasmeer (probably Taimi), or maybe it will be split down the middle 3-for Sylvari and 3-against.

For myself, I do not like this idea at all. It’s much too formulaic, and it’d mean character development gets locked on to a course that may well not fit just for the sake of mechanics.

Not to meantion the biconics aren’t particularly representative.
Rox – Ranger
Braham – Guardian
Kasmeer – Mesmer
Marjory – Necro
Canach… thief I guess.
And maybe if we stretch it Taimi can be a engineer.
So that leaves warriors, revenants and elementalists out in the cold.

It’s a red flag for how much Tyria revolves around a handful of “iconic” characters rather than portraying a realistic and complex world.

And therein lies a problem for the ages. How do we both portray an complex world and tell good stories? I’d love some examples of these, since I can’t recall and movies, shows, or books in which there wasn’t a character focus and by which the plot was not character centric.
I think ANet did a fairly good job of portraying a complex world in the base game. Hundreds of dynamic events each with their own characters doing something relevant to their environment and character. But it didn’t make for very good storytelling.

I don’t think Marjory is in the position to be teaching anyone anything. She only just picked up the sword, it’s been less than a year, is she supposed to face some of Tyria’s most dangerous creatures with a weapon she is barely proficient in surrounded by allies carrying their own weight using weapons they’ve mastered over a decade or more of practice?

Agreed. This is why we need profession factions. It would make sense that within these factions they’d start developing new means of combating the Elder Dragons. This would also present opportunity for narrative and lore, explaining who, why and what. I don’t inherently disagree that the biconics and iconics could play a role in developing these specialisations but it does have the disadvantage of potentially feeling forced.

The point of this thread is to ask ArenaNet to give us content whilst we wait for Heart of Thorns.

The content they already created would be a lot more easier to implement instead of, saying, create a whole new patch from scratch…

Something like the Queen’s Gauntlet could easily return. I found it quite a lot of fun and the rewards were pretty good too. So why not give it to us?

This is neither a new request or one that ANet doesn’t already know about. Given that nothing new is being said in regards to SAB or even queens gauntlet I can ask myself why was this posted if it adds nothing new to the conversation not even an interesting or a mildly creative twist. Otherwise you could just have posted in here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Super-Adventure-Box-merged-1

I think we’ve had more than enough Sylvari lore (way too much). I think it’s time for some Charr lore! Show us the Ash and Blood legion homelands!

I’d be happy with any profession lore.

General term and game mechanic question

Power tends to be synonyms with zerker (that would be focus on power, precision and ferocity). And yes they tend to be glass cannons.
I tend to stay away from pvp… me and pvp we just don’t get along.

Bah SAB and Queens Gauntlet? People are so unimaginative. What about Tower of Nightmare? Marionette? How about areas that were never completed? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=600HUe2S_50). How about an overhaul of Southsun? There’s so much content beyond SAB.

Specialisations misunderstood??

I see many people having problem that specialisations are like straight upgrades and see that as a problem. But when this info was first introtuced it was said that no more new classes (beside reverant) will be added and now classes vill be evolved trough specialisations. This means that after HoT they will give more specialisations to choose from.
So as i see it is no problem that specialisations are like upgrades, if we have many (in the end).

I think Chronomancers kinda raised our expectations a bit, with the new F5 ability and everything. Personally I was expecting all classes to get a new mechanic of some sort.

The class getting Shouts is the Necromancer

I heard someone on the forums suspect that the name of the Necro spec will be Banshee with shouts.

But what if I’m a boy necro? :P

Could be a thief with shouts, for a disappointing name you could name the spec braggart :P

Maybe bard? Hey if Guardians can become Dragonhunters…

That would be a disaster… Everybody is expecting the Alchemist to be the next Engineer elite spec (aftet the first one in HoT).
But if they can make a Guardian become a Dragonhunter, they can totally make a Necromancer become an Alchemist… It will just be called Ingredientmixer.

Yeah thematic consistency isn’t that important it seems, so anyone could be an alchemist. I really hope they explain the thematic shift in-game.

I’m just hoping the Necromancer Elite Specialization gives off this vibe!

Oh I wish so much. Necros are the darker profession in general so having a darker specialisation would fit… but as we’ve established thematic consistency isn’t that important.

Marjory is the primary canadate we need to look at for the clues. And her story just BLEEDS ritualist. Everything about her from her colors to her detective work, who trained her with a sword and the fact that her sister’s soul is in her sword just leads me to believe that the necromancer is most likely getting spirits.

But she’s being taught greatsword skill by Rox, so going by that I’d say the weapons skills would be pretty direct damage based.

And it will be your main go to source to charge quartz, as it currently is now.

Would be wonderful if we could get a permanent bank node as well in there, would make it a lot easier.

I can't believe Tequatl can fly

Applying real earth logic to an undead flying creature in a fantasy setting of a different universe.

Strong arguments there.

But there’s gravity in game just like in real life… and air and the Sun and all these things you know. So yeah why is gravity not working on Tequatl? Did he buy something from Trading Post that I didn’t?

Lemuria.3195 has already covered this. Magic.

Coming back to the game.....again.

If thats the case, then i dont like it.
Ill buy the Addon anyways, but it just doesnt look right.
I know that it was similar in GW1 , but i hoped for more Equality between Addon owners and non Addon Players.
To me it looks as if its going to be very difficult to seperate them in PvP.

This is probably your first MMO expansion? It’s pretty much standard practice.
