Honestly I see this location as pointless…everything is jammed so close together and one false move and ker-splat (or maybe they fixed that)
You know for an airship it is surprisingly immobile. Would have been nice if it actually moved around, or even better was somewhere around Silverwastes.
Honestly MF isn’t worth it. Most drops ignore magic find anyway now. Chests don’t follow it and neither do bags. The mystic forge doesn’t follow it. It’s really not worth bothering to invest in.
I don’t know, I feel like my drops have gotten better. And isn’t ‘feeling’ more important than the actuality of it?

Why not name the specialisation after what the guardians try to protect the people from? Seeing as to how the plot goes around chasing after the dragons, hunting if you will, it seems pretty fitting that the guardian gets the name ‘Dragonhunter’
You don’t want to use that argument because that argument can be countered by asking “well aren’t all the professions hunting dragons?”.
It makes even more sense if the rumormills spin true, that Eir is dead and our Broham picks up mom’s bow, filled with rage to avenge his mother. This event furthering his mindset to hunt the dragons even more. Maybe this rage or lust for vengeance makes him (and in turn our own guardians if we learn the specialisation from Braham) able to manifest light energy in more physical objects.
This would actually be a cool lead up to some sort of dark guardian or black knight style specialisation that is more focused on rage and anger than protection and virtue.
Dragonhunter theme does work for a Guardian.
It’s main purpose is to protect the people. Hunters usage (other than gathering food) is to hunt dangerous creatures that threatens the people. Thus the hunter specialization works quite well with the Guardian theme.
I’m honestly just not seeing the thematic link between Guardians and Dragonhunters. Agree to disagree?
Maybe the livestream will do a better job of conveying it. Maybe Dragon’s Maw is interesting enough to make the whole dragon hunter theme work. At present when someone says dragon hunter, I don’t think bows firing bolts of light and light-based magic traps. But who knows, maybe I’m not imagining hard enough.
EDIT:
But some other suggestions could be Templar or Lightbringer, both which can relate to the spec and sounds better than Dragonhunter.
For me it’s not really how it sounds (I think dragonhunter is fine), it’s just the theme doesn’t seem to fit with guardians or with what we’ve seen from the dragonhunter specialisation (baring of course that we don’t know what Dragon’s Maw looks like).
Well it does appear that Dragon Champions have a higher level of autonomy than the run of the mill minions, so it does appear that if they are about they can be active without the Elder Dragon being awake. In some cases the Dragon Champions are needed to help (or at least speed up) the process of awakening.
Hunt.
Exactly. Often using bows and traps.
So why isn’t Dragonhunter a Ranger specialisation? It seems far more in line thematically with the base profession. Or could it be that Rangers already have longbows, and they actually designed Dragonhunter starting from the weapon and not starting from the overall theme (like time-magic with the Chronomancer) they’re going for?
This probably belongs in the HoT forum, in one of the other 10 threads about the same topic.

Since the expansion is still in the testing phases, it would be cool to take on community feedback in regards to the name. But then again I’m the camp where I find the name to be incredibly jarring.
I’m in the camp of: well the name is ok… but what does dragon hunting have to do with it?
If they can explain in today’s livestream how the dragon hunting theme fits into it, I’ll be fine with the name.
This actually seems like a more interesting discussion to have (in my opinion so… probably not at all). With the Chronomancer we’ve seen the addition of new profession mechanics that can possibly change how the profession plays. With Dragonhunter we’ve seen a bit of flavour being added to the profession but definitely nothing particularly new (as far as I can tell), nothing which changes or adds to the profession mechanics.
So I’m wondering, what do players want from specialisations? Do they want specialisations to add new mechanics that make the profession feel different or new or do players want some added flavour and versatility to the present professions?
The counterpoint to having a quasi-new-profession is that the new mechanics might feel like a must have (like it seems might be the case with the Chronomancer) while a new bit of flavour can be more take it or leave it (like it seems might be the case with the Dragonhunter).
secondly, there is nothing I like about it
The virtues seems nice. I might take dragonhunter, run more or less the same spec and build as now and just use the virtues (since I find that at present guardians virtues seem more like something you don’t want to use).
Where is the damage to kill a dragon? Wait… are we talking about zhaitanesque fights?
Dragonhunter not ElderDragonhunter :P
Guardians always get useless stuff.
Um… I’d argue that necros tend to get the short end of the stick more often than not.
my problem is more, you take hte elite spec, all normal skills, and use a hammer or GS, and you’re guardian+ no matter what.
So far (and yeah others have said it), there’s an ongoing problem where the elite specs seem just better than the standard.
Which is an interesting discussion to have. Do you want specialisation to change the mechanics to an extent (almost like adding a new class!) or do you want them to give a bit more versatility to current professions (like is the case with the dragonhunter).
I think a lot of players have actually been hoping that specialisation would be ANet’s answer to profession bloat.
^ They do have a live-stream tomorrow showing it, which will probably give us a bit more details.
Hope so, at least I hope they’ll explain the theme around which they designed (and how that fits into dragonhunting).
How about Warmonk? War Monk?
Long bows don’t really fit. That might be the problem with specialisations, since they have to give each profession a new weapon I think some professions were like “ok which one of these weapons they don’t have should we give them and what exactly are we suppose to do with it!?”
I think if they allowed for different weapon abilities for current profession weapons that would have given ANet more design freedom.
Change the name please. A profession name should give people an idea of how it works. Ranger use bow, Chorno use time, Thief use dagger etc.
Dragon Hunter tells you nothing. . . It does not give you the impression that it is a backline support at all.
This more than anything. I don’t mind Dragonhunter, I do mind that the specialisation doesn’t inspire the image of a dragon hunter.
Really? ‘Cause Hunter kinda screams traps and bow as tool of their trade to me. And since I’ll be turning those tools on dragon-minions…
So a more apt name would be Dragon Minion Trapper?
What does a hunter do?
Hunt.

The over-all theme of this new specialization is a dragon theme.
I’m experiencing exactly the opposite. There isn’t much of a dragon theme as far as I can tell. In fact thematically it feels a bit, all over to me. I can’t see the central theme of the dragonhunter. In chronomancer it was ‘time’ but what is the theme of dragonhunter? It’s not dragons, maybe hunting because of the traps and stuff?
However the dragonhunter just screams hunter. Nothing specific to dragons. It`s just a name out of nowhere.
Exactly.
Hell it being kind of mediocre might be preferable, if they’re super OP like the Chronomancer seems to be, you would feel forced to take it, whereas it becomes a choice if the options are on Par with the core.
But that’s the problem Chronomancer looks so interesting! Dragonhunter doesn’t feel so as if it matches up very well. So Chronomancer seems like it will be a must take for Mesmers and Dragonhunter would be more of a matter of which set of virtues you like better.
I think the condi cap will be increased not totally removed.
What’s the actual link between the theme of this character, his abilities, and his name ? Any explanation I can find seems totally far-fetched.
Maybe it has something to do with its elite ability Dragon’s Maw, but otherwise yeah no I’m not seeing the thematic connection. hopefully in tomorrows livestream they’ll explain, until then I’ll just go on assuming I’m missing something.
Mesmers gets wells and a new fancy time mechanic.
Guardians get’s traps. I guess their virtues change, but that’s not really impressive.
I think Guardians are missing something. Well lets hope Dragon’s Maw is something just as interesting as the F5 on chronomancers… else I fear for what will become of necros… (I like necros).
Well my only problem with dragon hunter is… well looking at the specialisation there’s nothing really dragon hunter-y about it. Maybe I’m missing something, but the specialisation details don’t really match what I would consider someone who hunts dragons :/
Also, in John Smiths story it is implied that Zomorros is bound by some sort of contract. Although it’s not in-game, it does tie into the story of Zomorros being a prisoner of some sort.
Well pre-Islamic Arabian lore tends to indicate that Jinn are commonly bound to objects (like magic lamps, or magic rings), so this seems fairly in line with that concept.
Any dev have an update as to when we can obtain the tribal armor set?
Sorry, no update. It will come when it comes, but we’re not able to give a date at this point.
So between now and never. Well nice that we’ve gotten official word either way.

There’s nothing new under the sun, it would seem.
You should actually get more light armor to salvage while playing a light armored class. That should balance that out.
Good luck.
Oh they’ve tweaked this before, you get more usable items for your class. Was a lot of complaining when they announced it, but it seems to have been a mostly small change overall.
This thread… again…
People have been asking for some dungeon loving for… well 3 years almost now.
ANet should just merge dungeons with Fractals and then up the reward to 10g. Then there can be a tab to join fractal instance from anywhere.
Here I see a problem of convenience vs lore / story. I think fractals are probably going to be the place we see new small group content (beyond LS). But I do kinda feel that there’s still a place for dungeons.
Tygor Mindflayer in the Black Citadel says hes over 90 years old.
Besides Tygor, the eldest Charr I could find was Nox Darkheart, who died at the age of 67. Weather Nox died of old age or in battle is unknown.
Given that Charr are Charr I’d say a fair number die in battle.
Not sure if they have social stigma against dying of old age like the Spartans supposedly had.
By the sound of it, we have to do stuff that gives lore in order to learn these elite specializations.
Oh I hope so very very much!
Let the other people complain (I have to do PvE to unlock specialisations QQ), but we need some more lore.
Last two matches, just played. Less than 3 minutes in it’s already obvious which team is going to win. Lost both matches, so that was not fun at all in any way shape or form and totally not worth the 4 minute queue. Maybe it’s just the bad match making. I think I’ll leave match making for another month or three… hopefully ANet can fix match-making or whatever.
This has nothing to do with positive mindsets. It’s just obvious within the first few minutes whose going to win, the one team simply scores more, kills more of your teammates too easily you know the game is lost. I’ve been playing all day and I experience 2 types of games: either we win by a landslide or they win by a landslide. No close game, no excitement, no real feeling of victory. Only a single game all day was even remotely close and that one was predictable too.
No there’s a fatalism in pvp I find.
Am I the only one that can judge whether a game is lost or won in the first few minutes? Well maybe that’s a bit hyperbolic, but a good 80% of games it’s pretty clear whose going to win. There really is no swing in the momentum in pvp, the team that start out well is pretty much set to win. Even legacy of the foe fire sees the same issue.
The problem here is that, if you already know you’re going to lose a game in the first few minutes, it really really becomes a chore to drag yourself through the next 5-10 minutes when there is little to no hope of winning.
Maybe it’s because the matching algorithm is kinda bad, or maybe it’s because of the conquest game type, but whatever reason it really sucks the fun out of PvP.
A dead horse that needs more beatings.
In all fairness the system is pretty bad, and the more we keep banging on about it the better the chances something might happen.
to add some oil: i made new account, for NA (since my main is on EU), made a character, lv 2, fresh, 0 archives, 0 games… went in ranked, first game vs full premade/dragon finishers flying everywhere… i thought: “wow, that would have been some epic experience for a noob”
i mean i am not noob, but game can’t possibly know it… or can it lol?
Not surprising at all. Teams are usually vastly different in their skill levels.
Straits :/
Yeah I know the feeling, one mob fight turns into fight 3 more mobs. It gets better in Malchor’s Leap though, just have to push through… which I guess was the feeling ANet wanted from the zone.
Legendary Armor? =O
I don’t have any, but if I’m remembering correctly, Legendary Weapons can change their stats at will. If we had legendary armor that could do that as well, then that’d be pretty darn cool.
Agreed! Give us more Grind ANet!
Although they’ll probably only implement this after I’ve done with all my ascended armours…
It is rather unlikely that there will be a new race.
In fact I find it rather unlikely that we will ever have a new race, since that would basically mean creating a rather large amount of new missions for the (original) Personal Story and it would also be hard for it to make sense.Especially considering that they made a point of the Tengu hiding behind their walls.
All that would be required is missions for the Personal Story leading up to joining the Orders, assuming of course they’re just going to Revenant it (that is to say ignore the timelines).
I have to admit I’m definitely no lore expert, but as far as I know, Rata Sum and other similar places (like Rata Pten) weren’t built by Asuras, but rather “found and taken”. Is there any explanation / hint regarding this in official lore? Was there an ancient race that vanished, leaving their ruins behind?
Not that I know of. Asura migrated to the surface discovered a bunch of ruins and built Rata Sum on / in / with them. I think this was possibly left purposely vague to allow for possible future stories, or at least just a nod to the Utopia. But those far more skilled in the Asura lore than me can probably say if there’s any in game references, but I don’t recall.
The thing with GW2 and several RPGs actually is that they tend to deposit the PC fully grown (because Fable-ing it might be a bit boring and not worth the effort) already more or less in some profession (some play around with allowing specialisation after the start of the game but my point still holds).
Rarely do RPGs which allow for custom character creation (so Geralt doesn’t count) give much in the way of character background (or no more than needed to explain how and why the PC ended up in the events of the game) . This is even more so for MMO RPGs.
GW2 provides some very limited history in the character creation (but no more than you’d reasonably expect a MMO to do and probably less than most RPGs) but what is absolutely absent is any profession related details. That is we’re never given any sort of hint or idea regarding why our character chose a given profession (probably nice for RPers) or how those professions fit into the world. Can anyone just pick up a staff an in x number of years shoot firebolts? Is their a Tyrian Hogwarts? We’ve heard about the Mesmer Collective but nothing about passing references.
So little is conveyed about our characters and their profession and little is conveyed about how professions fit into the world as a whole. Thus I can only imagine that specialisations will also pretty much go unnoticed and ignored (my revenants might get a passing reference but only because of Rytlock is making an appearance).
I would have loved if we at least had some sort of ingame lore, or story explaining how the specialisations came about (if only for the sake of world building) but not likely.
The no grind philosophy presented in things like the manifesto went out the window with the introduction of ascended gear. Even Colin himself confirmed as much in the last thread that shared the same name as this.
Hey players wanted gear grind, ANet gave them gear grind and players never asked for more ever again.
Portal unfairness?
For what? To be an unpaid game tester? Pft.
With the content drought I’d imagine even a beta is looking appealing to some players.
Lmfao rewinding down state?
Here we go
As the F-Skills are locked in downstate I don`t think you can rewind from there, as it is a manual trigger.
there might be a trait, though…Otherwise it`s a good tactical device, similiar to the death shroud.
Unless it’s not instant cast, if it can be interrupted it might be too risky to start kamakazi-ing it like a necro.
Could you perhaps provide a tl;dr version preferably with bullet points? I find that trying to put ones points in a nice concise fashion tends to limit the disjointed, rambling that usually comes with posting angry.
Pretty sure there’s a massive thread somewhere you can post in, no need to create a new one… of course search functionality and all that so here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/NPE-Feedback-Merged-Please-read-1st-post
Experience a decrease in active users on my main guild as well. Well they’ll probably come back come for HoT, whenever that is. Mind you I do think Anet could be doing a bit more to give us some content to playing around with in the meantime.
Sigh… You really had to make another “outfits no thanks” thread?
Here’s what will happen:
- OP explains how they like the outfit(s) in the gemstore but would want to mix and match so they won’t buy it
- some people come to explain how they would NEVER buy an outfit because of principles
- others will explain how outfits are ok because you can wear them on any class, change without transmutation, etc.
- people will claim they’d pay thousands of gems just to be able to mix and match certain parts of a certain outfit
- they’ll come up with ideas how to solve the “problem”… release both outfit and armor set, give parts a toggle (show/hide), etc.
- the thread moves to the second page and is buried
- anet brings another nice-looking outfit…
repeat.
More evidence that we need a working search function on the forums.
anet should make armour skin and outfit balance. this can make everyone happy.
You must be new here. Everyone is never happy no matter what ANet does or doesn’t do.
Why cant we use the skins of all armor types yet?
With outfits there really isnt any excuse why an Ele cannot use heavy armor skins, or a Warrior using light armor skins. Since with outfits that already happens anyway.
Already covered. They weren’t designed to mix and match.
Well they don’t technically have hair, but your best bet is the makeover kit, but yeah not too many options for longer leaves.
I’ve been grinding for almost 13 hours now, yet my friend jumps in for a one hour sess for vw and gets the portal in 1 hour. Wish my Rng was that lucky.
The Gods of RNG are a capricious lot.
The whole Ticket Scrap thing is a bit meh for me… well more the fact that all those nice weapon skins are hidden behind a slot machine. The amount of real world money needed to complete a single set… well I guess you could buy them off the TP… if you had enough gold which can also be purchased with gems…
The whole thing makes me sad.
With megaserver there should be some people on the map. Maybe you’re playing on off-hours? Maybe everyone is in the Maguuma Waste maps trying to get that beta portal.
finally my money is saved not buying this crappy one, ty anet
Different strokes for different folks.
The lore is simple, Evon Gnasblade wants to make some money so they routinely brings out new varied weapons to sell to would-be-heroes of Tyria.
Started out as such a nice post, but then it just turned into yet another “SAB PLZZZZ”.
All roads lead to SAB

I’d hope so, I’m probably not getting in but I’d love to see some more content, if only to assure myself that the release date can’t be that far off…
Finally! Now the world can behold my characters manly abs!
Even looks decent on Charr.
Well since the game is software and thus not limited by something like shelf space no reason not to have more tabs (unless some programmer somewhere didn’t think ahead while coding tab functionality…).
I’d be happy if they reintroduced these items as skin obtainable in the game itself… by playing the game I mean. Probably make people like Sina.9208 unhappy, but it would make me happy, and doesn’t that count for something? :P
