RnG beta key lottery??

Tried it for an hour. Nobody got one. Looks like they expect you to grind all week for the “chance” which is fairly lame, especially with the zerg around and everyone competing over targets.

And yet there are multiple reports on reddit already about people getting it. Less than two hours after release.

You are also assuming that every single user in the map would post in map chat if they got one.

Well the chances that someone would get it is good. Even if the chances was less than a percentage, if you have several hundred if not thousand players doing events and killing mobs well chances never scale up to 100%, but very close.

TP flipping is the most rewarding… I’m not really disposed towards it.
Dungeons. A single path gives about 1 gold.
Tequatl. 2 gold for 15 minutes of play. Only the first time that day, subsequent attempts only give 1 gold.
Chest Farm Silverwastes. You’ll need keys but you can turn a nice profit if you sell all the mats you get.

I find that dragons oblivious to the mists explanation hard to believe. Since they’ve awoken at least once before, and are implied to have awoken many times in the past, it seems highly unlikely they wouldn’t have learned of the mists from someone they corrupted.

Well the EDs do appear to be native to the material plane (Tyria) so it does seem possible that they could go their entire lives without having or needing to have anything to do with the mists.

GW2 is currently one of the big MMOs (kinda by default. Wildstar, Archage, Elder Scroll etc. all failed to be the next big thing). So I’d definitely think we’ll see a nice population boost given that GW2 is a recognised brand. But given the nature of expansion you always see a population spike and then a dip. WoW (if I recall) is a good example of this were the population shoots up and then starts to drop off relatively soon after an expansions release.

CureForLiving.5360

Judging by what we’ve seen ANet has created the framework to easily expand upon: specialisations and masteries. So I’d say we’d definitely be getting more of those in future expansion. We’d also probably see new regions being added (since you can’t really call it an expansion without more zones to play in). Maybe we’ll also see some Guild Hall stuff, but having heard nothing about Guild Halls so far I’m unsure how easily they can be expanded upon.

Irrelevant. You are not “REQUIRED” to advance the game. You aren’t even “REQUIRED” to play the game at all.

You’re mixing context here. I do believe ‘required’ here is placed within the context of the game itself and its mechanics.

With grind in a game it’s always an ‘if’. IF you want X you need to grind. If you want to do the highest level raids in WoW you need to grind, if you want cosmetics, toys (and so on) in GW2 you need to grind.

Since most new content in WoW takes the form of raids you’d be excluded from a large potion of content if you do not grind for better gear. Access to gameplay content is being walled off. You can’t really liken not being able to play content in the game with having a fancy weapon skin. The only grind in GW2 is fractals and technically leveling, in all other regards there is no content with a barrier to entry that requires grinding.

Here is a list of a million games where male lead characters outweighs the female:
//insert nearly every game on the market

That isn’t an argument for anything, that’s known as an appeal to the majority. Well maybe not an ‘appeal’ but the logical is just as unsound.

Unless I missed something the Sylvari are all asexual drones. They do not reproduce. Therefore any Sylvari ‘couples’ are simply bonds of affection and about as sexualized as rubbing a pair of 2×4s together (eww, splinters ).

How did you know my fetish?

Sorry to disappoint everyone but Sylvari do have genitals, they’re just sterile.

stronk female? my human female can barely lift her greatsword.

Should have rolled a Norn, those ladies are ripped.

Caithe just has terribad taste in partners.

Well it could be explained by saying that Caithe was young and naive, but the problem is that they never give enough in-game evidence of this. Well dialog is time consuming to produce and for the most part distracts from the gameplay, so it’s difficult.

I’m so sorry, but because you make logical sense and refute most of the arguments in this thread with said logic you’re going to get completely ignored and they’re not even going to bother reading it let alone trying to reply to it.

My condolences.

Should probably read it then, but the tumbleriteism was strong in that post… too many trigger words for me.

How about less romance and more things and developement related to the actual plot and, you know, the war that we are having against the dragon(s).

Well that sounds like a simply novel idea, maybe ANet should get on it?

I think Rytlock is pretty manly? And if you’re only referring to the LS then we have Canach. Mind you they don’t really appear a lot, maybe they’re off doing manly stuff.

There are so many same sex relationships in the game, do we even have any heterosexual relationships represented by the main characters anywhere?

Eir must have had some sort of relationship? Braham didn’t fall out of the sky… but yes there is a lack of relationship (of any type) among the Iconic and Biconic.

To be fair, just because content is new doesn’t make it non-grindy. I have played lots of NEW content in MMOs and been annoyed by how grindy it is. And yeah, GW2 is like the king of taking what they already have and trying to get players to go out and use it again, but the new expansion will (presumably) be entirely new content added to the game.

ANet design philosophy seems to be to try and not spread their playerbase too thin or producing dead / playerless content (which commonly occurs in other MMOs when an expansion drops). It’s why LW S1 was primarily focused on revisiting and updating old areas instead of adding new. Mind you with S2 and now the expansion they seem to be moving away from that design philosophy.

CureForLiving.5360

This is what really kills it for me. Next expansion, it will be the same ordeal, some living story stuff and then 6 months of nothing. It would be bearable if only we had some sort of Box with Adventure, that would be Super.

I’m hoping however that the base expansion keeps us busy for a month or two, while the Living World team start working on / polishing S3 content to keep us entertained while at the same time they start working on a new expansion. Ideally that way we’ll have some sort of content fairly regularly without there big massive breaks… again I’m probably setting myself up for disappointment.
ut in theory, if S3 can give us relatively regular content updates for say a year or so (probably a bit short for make a entirely new expansion but ANet kept saying they’re laying the foundation on which they can build future content so maybe…) it might give enough time to work on the next expansion.

Locked into lines we don't want?

CureForLiving.5360

I’m just wondering if, for the traits, there is a reason why we will end up being locked into lines we may not want. As in, the lovely trait for reduced falling damage. If we want that trait, we will be locked into whatever line has it, even if there is nothing else in that line that fits where we want to go with our characters.

Just like now traits are specific to a given line, so if you want a trait you’d have to go into that line.

If each time they restrict choices makes it better, then they should remove all choices to achieve the perfect system.

I think you’re logic is a bit flawed, you’re kinda falling back on all-or-nothing thinking. You should go with Goldilocks-logic here: too much isn’t good and neither is too little, but somewhere in the middle it’s just right.

In the original posts question, did anyone ever run the fall damage traits all the time?

CureForLiving.5360

I don’t think the Devs are anywhere near ready to release the New Traits. So, if there is an update this coming Tuesday, it won’t be new traits.

I got the feeling that there’s still a lot of work to do (balance, art-work etc.) based on what we’ve seen so far, so yeah. Well seems like the framework is in place, so it pretty much comes down to how quickly they can balance it and make new icons and stuff. Would honestly prefer it if they give us an early release even if it’s not properly balanced. Can always balance with player feedback.

I’m expecting a new set of black lion weapon skins.

We always forget the BL team, hey? Even though they’re seemingly the most productive team they have.

So don’t expect the new traits for a couple months.

I’d say a month myself, certainly no more than two. But I’m reasonlessly hopeful.

Grind the Silverwastes for a chance at getting 1000g drops
Grind fractals for a chance at the fractal tonic
Grind fractals for a chance at the fractal weapon skins

Grind the Silverwastes for a chance at getting into the beta

So fed up of this.

Think this has come up a few times already, but here’s my take: grind – mandatory, needed for progress (level grinding, gear grinding etc). Farming – optional, needed to gain items not necessary for progression (skins, tonic etc.).
So you’re farming not grinding.

My feeling as well XD

It speaks rather poorly of the expansion, if just to access beta we’re expected to grind old content. I can’t help but wonder if the expansion will basically be a massive grind fest, and that’s why ArenaNet wants grinders to beta test it.

I don’t see the causality, maybe you’re reading into things?

I just hope this won’t be along the lines of the carapace armor boxes from Vinewrath…

  1. In the Norn storyline, Jormag sends icebrood into the Mists through the Sons of Svanir.

Although this seems to be an indirect benefit of having Norn as minions more than an actual ability of Jormag himself, so I still think that in the case of the Mursaat and the previous rising that the dragons might not have had the ability or particularly cared to enter the mists. Oddly enough since the mists are magical, and they eat magic.

  1. In the Cathedral of Silence PS step, Zhaitan is stated to have pulled a spirit, that of the Keeper of the Shrine, put of the Mists themselves. Stated by a Reaper of Grenth. I think the Reapers know their own business.

Well he did have the corpse, so maybe Zhaitan can pull spirit from the mists as long as he has something to physically link to the spirit? Or maybe not.

it seems right now that the new system will kill useless build diversity.

Fixed.

I’m pretty sure you don’t run 3/3/3/3/2 on your elementalist because its a useless build. Its still part of the variety.

I rather have less useless builds variety and more useful build variety than vice versa.

My opinion as well. For all the complaining about less diversity, the thing is most of that diversity of pointless non-viable builds. People really love ideas more than practicalities it seems

Now those 27 can all be good/fun/double-plus-positive/whatever, but “Diverse” they are not.

So? Diversity for no reason other than to have diversity is silly. Show me how this will practically impact players.

this new system will absolutely kill the perception of diversity. You can’t dispute math.

People love their ideas. Throughout history men have fought and died for little more than an idea. As a pragmatist I am deeply disturbed by this fact.

As apposed to doing what with them? What does one do with extra skill points… oh yes you use them to buy mystic forge materials. So I’m not understanding the complaint.

Look the thing that I loved about gw1 was the 1000s of skills available to my character…but I eventually grew up and realized that you still only use a small set of these skills. The people who are going to complain about losing access to those two trait lines, need to go back and really look at their builds and see that the overwhelming majority of the time, they are going to have two trait lines that they weren’t using anyways. or if they were it was for some negligible minor trait… especially since (using the water ele traits that have been revealed as a example) the traits seem to be getting better and doing more.

Yeah, but people seem far more in love with the idea of build diversity than the actuality of it.

Number 1: We have to buy how many sets of armor for each class and character? I have 8 characters, 6 of which are level 80. I need to go spend how much gold to buy secondary armor for each situation? That’s crap. It’s convenient for you because more gold = more money for aNet.

Why not craft your own armor? You can lower the costs that way.

Number 2: Bank slots and bag slots for armor. It’s convenient that since my characters will be running multiple armors that I will need to purchase more bank room and more bad slots. More bag slots and bank slots sold = more money for aNet.

You think you might be blowing up how big of an impact to the game this change will have.

I think it is BS and you should have communicated a long time ago that you were going to be flipping the meta.

How long ago would have suited you?

It screws us veterans over tbh.

Am I playing the game wrong? The majority of the content in GW2 is waaayyyy to easy to have to worry about things like running multiple builds and swap between them ad hoc and min/maxing your traits.

RNG needs a revamp....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

CureForLiving.5360

This RNG systems totally blows for some of us. I have over 4k hours, 195% mf base rate and have done Teq for 2 years daily-never so much as a mini.

Teq drops aren’t affected by magic find… a lot of things aren’t sadly.

When my MF was under 100 I used to get between 3 and 6 exotics in a 4-5 hours SW run. Now I’m at 160 and I MIGHT get an exotic a month. If that.

I however am getting a lot of exotics (comparable to a year or two ago). I’m 220 more or less for mf. Just remember things like MF don’t affect loot bags, so no matter your magic find those sw run champ bags won’t be any better.

Yes Anyandrell-I also feel that the more MF I have the less I get. I’m just tired of some players pulling ascended chest after chest from Teq-2 Zaps in a week from SW while others of us who put in MORE time get absolutely zero.

So I assume this is Texas Sharpshooter right? Sorry I’m somewhat unsure, my fallacies and biases are sufficient for passing conversation but not really for much more.

MF doesn’t influence world chests. Also if you are farming SW watch out for Diminishing Returns.

Don’t think DR affect champ bags though, and that’s were most of the SW loot comes from.

This system NEEDS a serious revisit-it’s arbitrary and unfair in its present format.

RNG allows equality of opportunity not parity of outcome, fairness beyond that is a rather deeply debatable concept. What you seem to be looking for is a system that will definitely give you the loot you want, which is the very opposite of RNG.

I’m hoping Anet takes some of this on board-the RNG system for outliers like me on the 1 end just sucks royally

I’d imagine something as follows: you do teq and you say have a 1% change, next time a 2% chance and so on and so on until eventually you have a 100% chance and then it resets to 1%. Mind you even in such a system you’d still have outliers, you’d still have the guy you keeps getting teq hoards at 1 or 2% chances. To remove outliers will require the removal of randomness.

I find this thread sad because it is not the first time players make wish list posts and threads in the forums. Yes! same wish from 2 years ago and later. So what changed? Here is the saddest part: Other mmo game company who are not even 2 years old or even 1 years old took players wish and make it happen for them and put it in their games.

Yes! same wish list in this thread include posts by players.

It make sense why the word wish is include with list. Oh well!

Since ANet said they wanted to have fewer but more content dense maps I’d say 3 (1 is too few, we know at least there is going to be 2 i.e. verdant brink and whatever map they want to put above Rata Sum, and 1 more for good measure). If we’re lucky maybe 4, and perhaps 1 or 2 more for Season 3.

Why wouldn’t someone want to see more races? Granted we’ll not be seeing any new races in HoT but in an ideal world the more races the better.

Well, I’m guessing the main reason not to want more races is that they cost resources which many people want spent on something else.

Other reasons might include: armors not fitting the new race’s body type, the new race being too cute/slapstick, the new race not fitting the lore and story etcetera.

That all said though… I want my Tengu! (and not just as a tonic, as an actual race with a personal story, a city and so on)

That’s why I mentioned the ideal world, unfortunately adding a new race is a lot of work for minimal overall benefit as appose to adding a new class (as was the case with HoT)

More playable races
