Dearest Anet Art Dept. (Asura Armour)

Please stop making us Asura females wear male armour, its ugly and its offensive.

How’s it offensive? I am honestly interested in knowing how since I have no idea what so ever.

This is also a problem with female Charr.

Well culturally Charr and Asura don’t have the same social gender norms as say humans. That is to say, no one’s going to shout at you if you hit a female Charr (probably because she could rip your head off but still).

Problem is, neither race has the sexual dimorphism of humans. With the way most female armor is designed in this game, there needs to be female human like breasts for them to work.

This too, although Charr do demonstrate bodily sexual dimorphism with females being smaller and more sleek while the males tend to be large and bulky.

and they actually use gender-specific pronouns and titles more than other races, such as geniusette. If anything clear and proper gender definitions may in fact be more important to them than other races, possibly because their gender isn’t as obvious at a glance.

Firstly that’s a feature of language. Unless you’re one of those womyn types… but frankly my language has ‘vrou’ for women and ‘man’ for man (pronounced slightly differently) and we similar westernised-cultural gender distinctions so I don’t think gender inherently flows to and from language.
In a culture that places an emphasis on intelligence (Asura) and combat ability (Charr) placing emphasis on gender distinction doesn’t inherently follow from that. Does being a female Asura mean you’re intellectually more or less capable than a male Asura? Does a female Charr fight differently than a male?

I think only burning makes sense here. there is no need to convert other conditions.

perhaps after enough duration of chill is applied the object just shatters.

makes sense to me.. necromancers deal with life force and death. object contain neither of these. I’ve never seen a necromancer’s minions have trouble tearing apart objects.

Eh… you’re one of those…
Please refer to the follow post:

An excellent idea, for those literalist immersion people who hate the idea of a bleeding door. Let conditions just have a different, appropriate name when applied to objects.

Bleeding -> Structurally Unsound
Burning -> Burning
Confusion -> Warping
Poison -> Rot
Torment -> Stress (in the original, engineering sense)

Some of us think guild missions do not suck.

If you think bounties suck. Solo one

Me neither. The problem is just that ANet isn’t producing enough regular and varied content for them.

I’m hoping this is tied in with the new raids or “challenging group content”.

It would be pretty bad if at E3 they literally only have a 3 minute presentation for the guild halls (in this corner you can do Y, in that corner X, etc.). Giving a hint at this organised group content in how / if it can fit into Guild Halls would be nice.

Oh good. I hope there’s either enough content within Guild Halls to host your info exclusively about it, or they also reveal a lot more at E3 too.

Depends on how long Colin gets to talk. He could have only like 10 minutes to talk. The pcgamer show website doesn’t give any information about how its going to be run (other than it’ll be streamed on twitch).

“AuroraPeachy, BogOtter, MMOInks, and DocGotGame will be hosting the show from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time” sounds like more than ten minutes. Though I suppose it could all be fluff filler around that — but I’m expecting at least 45 minutes from Colin to support 1.5 hours of Twitch.

Or 10 minute presentation and 35 minutes of Colin smiling :P

Well group play is going to be better. Maybe with the armour and trait changes it’ll all balance out somehow.

I would definitely love to have staff as a secondary weapon with ventari just in case the group needs some more healing, but now it’s less reactive since I need to decide ahead of time.

Perfect time to reopen the SAB.

Oh this!
SAB would be a perfect Filler.

And has been discussed to death, so much so that if ANet was planning on reopening it they probably would have already.

1000+ days in any MMO will result in the same problem. Unless you are suggesting there is an MMO out there that comes out with content so frequently that even someone that plays 10hrs/day will never have to wait for an xpac/update for more content.

The nature of the themepark MMO is that the content production is time expensive, at the very least the production time is far larger than the consumption time.
It’s why some up coming MMOs are playing around with sandbox elements to try and expand the playtime a bit.

An expansion is just around the corner…. what more could you ask for?

The living story really spoiled some people.

So now we want both expansions and Living Story XD

And you all think the game isn’t stagnant?

Why do I keep thinking mechanically stagnant and not content stagnant? You know like when water is stagnant it goes bad. Probably because I call it a content drought. I don’t know, it’s technically right though.

Drinking the cool aid much?

Actually if you drank the cool aid (although it was most likely flavour aid) I don’t think life’s little problem would bother you all that much anymore :P

to freeze content development in favor of an expansion

is what most expansion-based games do. What did you expect?

This is a common thing in WoW though, not sure about other MMOs.

Except that GW2 is NOT an expansion based game. Its SUPPOSED to be a bi-monthly release based game (per countless PR releases via Anet in countless interviews). If they are changing the model, it would be nice to know.

But when they announced the expansion they basically said that it was what players were asking for. So yes it seems they’ve changed their model.

WTH is a “Stagnent”?

Most likely it was meant to be Stagnant

GW2 playerbase=impatient

Well that’s a given. Who wouldn’t love it if ANet dropped the expansion tomorrow?

None of them claimed to have a living world with biweekly updates.

And when last did Anet claim that?

To me, this is a bait and switch on Anet’s part.

I know you have clairvoyant powers, but the rest of us live in a world where the future is unknown, where things we say today might not be true tomorrow, a world with millions of unknown interacting with each other to produce some predictable and many unpredictable outcomes.
So you know, understanding for us poor morals might be in order.

As for that. The word challenging is always subjective. GW2 is not a hardcore challenging game. So do not expect HoT to be any different. The content will be doable by most players so if you find the current game unchallenging, you likely will find HoT unchallenging too.

Except that HoT is explicitly said to include ‘challenging group content’. Although Anet has not yet revealed what that is exactly (i.e. it might dungeons or world bosses or fractals or something new entirely) and of course it remains to be seen how challenging it is exactly. What we do know however is that the Wyvern is not what they call ‘challenging group content’.

So it probably won’t be open world zergs (i.e. wyvern).

CureForLiving.5360

I don’t even consider this a ‘full’ expansion.

Expansion to me is new class, another playable race, new skills for all classes, and another FULL continent to explore.

HoT is giving us what 35% of that. Three years later…

You mean aside from a new pvp gameplay mode, new WvW maps and a totally reworked trait system? All I see is lacking is the least important which is a new playable race.

Some people won’t be happy with anything but the complete failure of GW2.

The PvE content from all accounts is thin and contained in three overlapping maps.

You might want to check that again. Each map has 3 biomes, that doesn’t mean they only have 3 maps.

HoT is adding Raid dungeons. They just havnt revealed them publicly yet because all the elite specs havnt come out yet. We will be getting new PvE.

Unfortunately we don’t have any evidence for this either. It’s what some are speculating though.

As far as I know, there will be more than just 1 map with 3 levels. Did Anet said otherwise while I wasn’t looking?

No they did not.

I think the reason this expansion is only 15-20% of a real expansion is because they thought they didn’t need one for the first 2 years. For the size of the expansion they should be set to release a new one every 6-8 months after the launch of this one.

And where did you see information on the size of the expansion?

Who thinks up a scenario like six dragons? At the current pace we’re looking at 2027 to finally kill the last dragon. Do we wanna kill dragons until 2027???

For someone who doesn’t want to kill dragons you seem rather in a hurry to kill dragons.

I don’t think we should assume that we’ll be killing a dragon every expansion. I’ve been getting the distinct impression from the living story stuff that killing the elder dragons either might not actually be a good idea in the long run or is only delaying the inevitable.

Apparently people know how much content the new expansion has so why wouldn’t they also know exactly how the game’s development will continue into the future?

TIL that World of Warcraft has only had one full expansion. Aside from Pandaland, each of their so-called “expansions” only had a new race or a new class.

It’s called moving the goalposts. People who don’t want to call HoT an expansion will always up the requirements of being classified an expansion. It’s a futile effort since no matter your argument they’ll just change the requirements or minimize (can’t think of the right word) HoT in some way.

Just saying its suicide for Anet to wait out another gap like this (3 years).

Unless they decide to do another major release like China I doubt that would be the case.

Truly. Define good loot and how do you keep it as good loot when all the other players are also getting this good loot.

Well the trick to that is the gear treadmill. It gives the illusion of ‘good loot’ and by introducing new tiers you keep it ‘good’.
Just to be clear I’m not saying we need it, just answer you’re question which in hindsight was probably rhetorical.

To be fair, the OP made a pretty sweeping, completely inaccurate statement. Detail is required if a discussion was required.

But hyperbole tends to draws more attention. Even though it’s not technically hyperbole.

I like how instead of fixing the poorly thought out design that resulted in ‘unlimited event spawns’, they gutted loot tables completely.

Which I assume was the fix.

Will buying HoT be mandatory? (like in WoW)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

CureForLiving.5360

You will still be able to keep playing without buying HoT.
You will not get access to certain HoT specific things however. Such as the Masteries and the Elite Specializations. Nor the new areas (I would assume).

As for cost we do not know. But I would guess somewhere between $39,99 and $59,99 for the standard version.

Really? that expensive??

Well we don’t know so it’s all guesstimates.

Actually we know for a fact that it won’t be free.

I was just being facetious in saying we do not know price info at all so any number from us is just a guess. One penny as the lower limit then.

We don’t have pennies around here, so that would be awkward.

I’m more worried about if it’ll be worth spending the money on than how much it costs. If it’s just basically another Dry Top or Silverwastes with a few added weapon skills then idk lol.

Yeah … right now HoT sounds like it is either FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR from completion or extremely lackluster.

So just wait until it’s released and reviews come out and you know for certain? Seriously pre-order culture…

In addition to making fighting players in PvP/WvW even less intuitive to get into than it is already (multiple different ways to show the exact same thing as well as having to learn which effect is a does-something-on-dodge trait that might actually matter, and which is just useless fluff), the last thing this game needs in general is more effects. Especially on a mundane thing like dodging.

I believe there are ways at least in PvP to standardise the player models so it wouldn’t bother you too much.

Unexplored Skill Mechanics

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

-Destroys or coverts enemy combo fields into allied combo fields/boons/effects.

Combo fields have always been an interesting idea but never full realised, in my opinion. Before a mechanic like this is implemented combo fields need to be looked at to make it a more active part of combat.
Primarily I see 2 present problems with combo-fields: too many particle effects making it difficult to see fields, and secondly the inability to quickly identify if a field on the ground can be combo-ed and how.

But this might be an interesting mechanic to use against necros with wells and the coming Chronomancers who will also be using wells.

-Skills with required resource upkeeps (revenant will add some).

Could work, no all classes have resources but warriors, necros and thieves do. So future specialisation ideas? Initially when anet mentioned being able to use necro life force in a new way I actually thought they’d do something like this.

-Create a black hole that sucks in an enemy, secondary effect launches pulled enemy into a target.

So like Guardian greatsword skill?

-Use an enemy as a human shield to absorb projectiles.

Not sure how this would work with present mechanics? Unless you want to implement friendly fire.

-Cause a specific effect if skills are queued or used in a certain order (combo skills).

Well we already have combos, but of course like I said its not an active part of combat.

-Slowly expanding field that causes damage, healing, or another effect.

We’ve seen some fields like these in the HoT beta.

-Launch enemy high into the air and float them down slowly as a CC.

Since you can’t attack in the air (something which I really think ANet should change since I want to use abilities while jumping down a ledge , this would basically be a prettier type of stun. Still not a bad idea.

And when play living Story as Caithe her version of heart seeker always leap at max range hitting anything on the path which I think more consistence.

CureForLiving.5360

I
There is a lot riding on GW2 Heart Of Thorns (HOT), there is so much competition around for the PC Gamer (Witcher 3 is awesome).

Different demographics, mind you not mutually exclusive demographics but there’s plenty of single player RPG fans who wouldn’t touch a MMO with a ten foot pole on principle alone.

But there are games that are pretty old, that aren’t as popular as Guild Wars 2 is now, and they’re doing okay enough to continually come out with expansions, including Lotro, DDO, Star Trek Online, AoC, TSW, there are a lot of MMOs that go through this cycle.

My thinking is that even if HoT was to be a massive flop they’d still have a decent enough playerbase. Mind you if HoT were to flop and the expansion / living story after HoT were to flop as well then we can start talking about the doom and gloom.

I believe there are many areas left to explore. In fact a new map was found in the floor of the Durmand Priory which Wooden Potatoes and that_shaman looked over and discovered many new areas far far away.
So there are definitely plans for a much larger world, it will just take a while for it to come out.

Links?
I’m subbed to both of their youtube channels but I didn’t see anything there. All they had was content that was cut never to be implemented.

They’re not “risen”, though. They’re Palawa Joko’s weird Undead zombies.

Yes…. but I believe the answer the OP is looking for is…

We don’t have any risen centaurs for the same reason we don’t have any…

Undead Kodan
Undead Tengu
Undead Ogres
etc.

Which is not due to any lore-related reason…. the developers simply forgot about them.

I think it’s more a matter of time and effort. They couldn’t possibly have created a risen variety of every single possible race in game. So they just decided, lets do X, Y, Z and maybe if we have time some a couple of Dredge.

I wouldn’t gamble 300g… then again I only have 1 legendary so maybe I’m not someone to imitate.
