The state of Lion's Arch in later Expansions

1st Expansion (Heart of Thorns): Mordremoth will grow plants everywhere and people will barely be able to walk in the city

2nd Expansion: Kralkatorrik will shake the earth and with his crystals he will destroy the remaining buildings that are left there and also cut some of the plants that Mordermoth spawned

3rd Expansion: Jormag will freeze the remains of the destroyed city and the npcs + the portals will dissapear

4th Expansion: Primordius will melt the frozen remains and everything will become dust

5th Expansion: The Deep Sea dragon will cover everything under water and all that it’s left will be a lake which connects to the rest of the ocean

Well… I think there’s a limit towards how many times you can destroy LA. Maybe destroy RataSum? How about Divinity’s Reach, that hasn’t had a good disaster in a while.

In a map where loot wasn’t based of tagging as many things as possible and getting loot form their bodies, you can play any role you want and still be rewarded for the difference you make.

I was thinking about this problem. One solution could be that you share in the tagging. Say you give might, you get credit for a percentage of whatever additional damage someone who gets might does… Mind you this might be too beneficial to support. You give 5 people might, those 5 people tag 5+ mobs…
In terms of healing, say a character takes a 100 damage and you heal them for 50, you then get credit 50 dps-es-equivalent-damage-credit on the mob that caused the original damage.

ewwwwww….. imagine the abuse and massive flood of Logan/Rytlock yoai fan fiction.

Logan turned to run away, Jennah needed him. But Rytlock wrapped his large muscular arms around Logan’s bare chest and pulled him close. So close Logan could smell Rytlock’s strong Charr musk.
Rytlock nuzzled Logan’s neck and whispering “Not this time”…

ewwwwww….. imagine the abuse and massive flood of Logan/Rytlock yoai fan fiction.

Well at least it would cleanse the forums of the smut?

Logan protested in vain “No, I can’t… I have to… Jennah.”
In a low whisper Rytlock hushed him, “I’ll be your Jennah tonight”

Kind of a tangent but of a similar theme I always wished they would add an accessible player profile that is written by the player. They had this function in CoH and it was awesome for RPers like me

On a serious note, seems like a small change that could be of a lot of benefit to RPers.

[Gemstore Q]Watchwork Mining Pick.

CureForLiving.5360

Is there any plans to update the rest of the tools?

When they released it originally there was a lot of complaining. The core of the complaint was around the idea that gemstore items were primarily convenience. That is to say, gemstore items didn’t give anyone any advantages, before convenience (in this case not having to buy mining picks). But giving sprockets went beyond convenience into the realm of advantage.
So yeah, I actually agree with the idea of not giving gemstore items clear advantages. In the case of the watchwork mining pick they obviously didn’t remove the sprockets since it would just have created more complaining.

Themes appeared to be a popular request in the CDI for Guild Halls. HoT is coming out with just the two for now, I would wager they will have other themes based on races after they have had the original two played with and bugs worked out.

GW2 actually has a lot of scalability. Guild Hall variety is one of the areas we’d possibly see some more variety in.
Or Guild Halls could go the way of Fractals or Collections.

how big is Glint compare to other dragon?

in Lore

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

Yeah, they kinda retconed her size in GW2. In GW1 she was not that big. When I’m on my PC next, I’ll grab the pic I’ve got of her.

I wouldn’t really call it a retcon. With how Ogden and the Brotherhood of the Dragon were describing her as basically some sort of proto-Elder Dragon, any growth in size could be explained by her absorbing an ever increasing amount of magic.

We don’t really know too much about EDs physical bodies. Zhaitan was a composite dragon, likely if there was any sort of a ‘core’ to him it wouldn’t be too large either. Maybe Glint would also eventually have been able to augment her size in some way.

Zhaitan was disappointingly small due to the needs of game mechanics.

Actually Zhaitan was bigger than he looked. The problem was that there was no point of reference when we fought him. Someone on reddit made this chart, showing that Zhaitan was over 500 meters long. That’s not what I would call disappointingly small.

Goodness. I’m curious as to how they determined his size, is that included in the notes on the Reddit chart? As you say, there is no point of reference provided in the game visuals. So they could just be guessing, if that image is all there is.

I’m assuming they rendered the models using their ‘in-game’ size.

Id overlooked the past, present, future mechanic to the mists.

Id love to channel my GW1 self. Impossible in game terms, but would be incredibly cool.

Not really, “Unknown Hero” Channel the Legendery Hero that defeated the Titans, Shiro, Abbadon and the Great Destroyer to name a few.

Simple. skills would be easy too.

“Gift of true sight” see your opponent for who they really are. Apply (insert number of stacks here) of Vulnerability.

“Titan Smash” Summon a titan to pummel your enemy’s. Unblock able attack that knock down and applies 4 stacks of burning.

“Gaze of Abbadon” apply fear (5s) and torment (4s)

That would be pretty cool. Although don’t we have a better name that ‘unknown hero’?

Long ago I said Halloween, half-kidding…now I’m positive HoT will not be out before the Mad King arrives.

Trick or Treat? Lets hope it’s a treat.
Although would be nice if they could update Mad King Thornes jokes a bit, something along the lines: “HoT more like cold!”

Looks like they are stretching this as long as they can. Expansion probably wont come out until late autumn.

There are still 6 classes left to “showcase” their elites. Yes, we know that Druids have staffs, but nothing of what the staff will do as a druid. At the rate we are drip-fed info, and the amount of info to go, much of which is probably not ready anyway, and not including the elite discussion I don’t believe the expansion will be out until early 2016. Makes me wish that I’d not pre-purchased and spent the money on another game’s expansion. C’est la vie.

Well the more they stretch it out… the more unlikely it is to arrive anytime soon… Well it seems the new PvP has been beta-tested, probably see 1 more probably not 2. The PvE has only been stretched test, so that means at least 1 beta, but I’d say realistically minimum 2. The WvW has been stressed test, so beta is still left. I didn’t hear too much complaining so, if we’re lucky and nothing appears in the beta maybe only the pre-purchase beta and then a open beta. Well also probably see a Revenant/Shiro beta.
So I’d say we should probably not judge HoTs release date by how much info is left, and rather by how many betas still need to be done. After all ANet did say that the betas will determine release.

CureForLiving.5360

1) Some do like it.

2) That’s actually like 4 points, but ok. I don’t see anything wrong about removing WvW from world completion, frankly I think it’s a good thing. Yes, it does kinda seem unfair for dedicated WvW to not have and option for getting Gift of Exploration or something equivalent. Try turning your graphics down, and why not role a Asura? No one is making you do jumping puzzles with a norn.

3) Actually you can make ascended gear by only WvW-ing, granted you’d probably buy plenty of items from the TP since the WvW maps aren’t particularly plentiful when it comes to mining nodes, or lower level mats. Still it is possible.
Same food utilities, gear stats (although you’d probably need to buy some recipes from the TP), and practically all of the legendary components (or just the legendary out right) can be gotten from the TP again.
So I guess ‘only’ might be a bit hyperbolic.

5) And remove any and all sense of achievements. Oh sure you can’t get lumi skins in WvW, but I think this is more an issue of ANet not having equivalent rewards across their games types i.e. there is no particularly special WvW armour skins. So I think your approaching this from the wrong perspective.

6) Other than a few things, I’d say no. Also there’s no way to get your Balthazar backpiece, or Glorius armour in PvE. No again we see there is the issue of no parity in terms of rewards among game types, but your statement is again hyperbolic… if we ignore the definition of hyperbole.

7) In PvP and WvW yeah sure. But one would imagine that this is less of an issue in the primarily zerg based WvW, except if you’re a roamer, but it kinda makes sense that certain professions and stats would be better at something like roaming. As for pvp, I do believe a bunker build is a thing you know for holding onto those points in conquest.

10) Can’t speak towards this, I only relatively recently started playing with a ranger and it’s by no means my main.

11) You have to ask yourself, what is the purpose of server transfer? Is it to transfer between servers or to make people more likely to jump between wvw tiers and maybe get a few people on low pop servers.

12) That’s only the vendor gear, which relatively speaking is kinda easier to get.

13) So you complain about their being a room for anything but zerker and then complain about there not being enough zerker?

14) And how would this be fixed?
If players only want to use certain skins, ANet cannot do anything about that. And it hardly impacts your gameplay if someone else has a legendary skin.

15) Eh change happens. I decided to gamble rather, assuming that given the community response that eventually account bound was going to be a thing. The same way I also saved up my skins for the wardrobe. But hey that’s life. Also if you’d kept those dyes they’d be closer to 80 silver – 1 gold now.

16) Does ANet know about them? if so, are they game breaking?
If yes on both accounts, then I agree ANet needs to fix them.

18) We are getting something more GvG-ish in HoT. Hopefully Anet would expand upon it or eventually give us proper GvG. I guess all we can do is keep reminding them.

19) Not really, but I guess it does become a bit difficult for melee when the zerg decide to range each other instead of crashing into each other. Still I’ve seen plenty of melees being relatively useful in those cases.

21) You could go for a toughness/vitality/power build if you like? Lets face it you get better dps for condi when wearing full sinister, so you would be sacraficing some damage for your toughness and vitality there.
Also this completely ignores the fact that condi has been broken since ANet changed the stack limits 3 years ago. The balance between power and condi isn’t perfect, but condi has finally started to become viable. I don’t think having condi be viable is a bad thing.

The question is, is the percent of players who’ve reached 300% high enough to warrant making a luck eater. All level 80s will get dragonite, empyreal shards and bloodstone dust if they play which makes these eaters useful for 100% of these players. Only a few percent have gotten to 300% luck though which means most people will either not make the device or not use it if they do for a long time, if ever.

Until the percent of people who have 300% luck is higher I don’t think it’s a good idea to spend resources making it, unless maybe a gemstore version for those that want it.

This is true, but there are those who have maxed luck so it should be on their radar.

How hard would it be to implement? Since they’ve already implemented 5 similar items I’m guessing the tech is pretty much down.

The most Canon PS story choices

Posted by: CureForLiving.5360

CureForLiving.5360

In terms of canon, I think all of the personal story branches are canon, except for the forks where you can only take one path of course. Basically, I think the canon is that there were (at least) fifteen heroes to begin with, but only one actually ends up as Trahearne’s second-in-command – the others either die along the way or end up in lesser positions. But at least the general shapes of the same events do happen.

My thinking more or less. I doubt Malyck stopped existing just because I didn’t roll a Sylvari. I doubt thing the Priory and Vigil was just standing around doing nothing while the Order of Whispers patrolled the streets after Claw Island fell. Just because I decided to roll into Orr using tanks doesn’t mean the navel / cauldron route wasn’t taken as well.

Yes lore is through the story quests. But the achievements show slayer things, weapon usage, etc.

That’s the whole point of this thread, though. To have more lore in the game via a lorebook/bestiary. The story quests don’t really tell much of Tyria’s lore from 250 years ago.

True. It’d be tough though to make custom books for everyone telling of the psst 250 years. That’s a hella lot of lore and would probably take a while to flip through. I guess these insane lore hunters could use that though.

I’d imagine it would be unlocked as you experience new content, see new places, find books, tomes etc. scattered around the world. That way it’s delivered in pieces so it’s not too overwhelming.

I always found it odd that parts of the personal story were never tied to your profession. We know the roots of some professions in relation to GW1, but little is known about how they evolved into what they are today. Especially the Guardian, who combines disciplines from Monks, Paragons, Warriors, and Dervishes, into one of the most cohesive classes every created.

Exactly the sort of thing that could be added.

There was a lore book I believe before launch which they canned. Last time someone mentioned it, they said it wasn’t something they were looking to try and re-implement. It was hotly discussed during the CDI’s as well.

Princess, Dragonite Ore Eater

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

CureForLiving.5360

Average play generates more Dragonite Ore per day than she can consume.

Whose average play? Not mine, certainly. Maybe on some days, but on others I don’t do content that gives Dragonite Ore.

Dragonite Ore comes from most boss events with a chest (not bonus chest). So its not hard to generate dragonite ore in PvE; and you get crap tons from WvW objective captures. Blood stone comes from champ bags (found everywhere). Fragments are found in open world chests (and chest farms), and from PvE dungeons.

Really the only play style that doesn’t generate one of these mats in large amounts is classic mob farming….. and few people do that because of incredibly low yields.

Or leveling alts, or doing world completion.

I would just like that all three consistently eat a full stack of mats per day with a rare chance to eat up to two stacks per day. Tired of them going on hunger strikes and only eating 150 a day.

Yeah, I hate it when they only eat three meals a day

You are, and have always been, punished for not having enough dps
As far as I’m concerned Colin is blowing smoke.

Sad but true. Until they equally reward the guys doing healing , crowd control and other support, players will continue to gravitate towards carrying the biggest stick.

I don’t think it’s a matter of rewards so much a matter of path-of-least-resistance. Zerker is at present the best spec to run. You could run full nomad, but you’d literally take ages to do anything. You could run cleric gear, but with everyone else running zerker and the downed mechanic whatever you’re pew pew-ing will die pretty quickly and if people fall down someone can just rally them.

I like the Jade Wind mechanic, that’s a nice touch. I hope Shiro won’t make some of the other legends obsolete though. Or devalue them too much. That would be a wrong step for the class.

if he supplys the class with some “somewhat acceptabe” dps then it renders the other legends obsolete by default

Well that doesn’t go without qualification, as long as the zerker-meta is still supreme.
But here’s to hoping the ‘challenging content’ that we’ve all been hyping up so much that it can’t possibly meet said hype, does away with the zerker-meta.

It’s so sad all four legends are male.

Well even if this was the case, it’s not that big of deal? Is it? Nah.

From a lore perspective that’s actually true. Remember the dragons are here to consume the magic in the world, so there has been a steady decrease in magical power since they’ve awaken. (Unless you’re the Queen and her Mesmer BFF, in which case you are two of the most powerful mesmers to have ever existed in Tyria.)

This tends to be a general issue among named characters, though.

I just assumed artistic license, given that the whole scene is basically black on blue, with touches of red.

Does that mean Faolain and her Nightmare Courtiers fell to Mordremoth? If so, then what if Caithe sees her ex-lover as a corrupted version of her former self?

Well Faolain is already corrupted, only by the Nightmare. I don’t imagine Caithe opinion would change too much if say Faolain got corrupted by Mordy.

It has been stated that they looked at it for HoT, but decided that adding the Revenant would offer “more” than just a new race would. So, maybe with the next expansion.

Personally. I have always put forth that they could add new races that fit with the dragon story being told. The Kodan when we face Jormag. The Largos when we take on Bubbles. Not sure where we would slot Tengu in necessarily, but oddly I always think of tying them to Cantha somehow (although I’m well aware that only some Tribes come from there). It would help slide their story components in that way as well.

Edit: All that said, the “race” most associated with this expansion is most definitely the Sylvari.

Tengu could be associated with Primordius, atleast some stuff in PvE seem to hint that way, like the one spot in Kessex hills, with Destroyers coming out of the cave near Dominion of the Wind.

But if looking at it like this, then Tengu would be the last.

There’s no end to how they could be included into the plot. We know where they are and it’s not like they’re hidden away in some far off corner. Even a wayward Asura in LA that accidentally crashes his experimental flying golem into the big all of theirs would be sufficient. A more likely scenario could be any of the EDs causing some damage that breaks down the wall and forces them out of hiding.

Personally I’m just interested in the new F-skills. The longbow will probably just be my alternate weapon in case I need to put some range between myself and whatever is trying to kill me (at least the longbow seems like a better option than the loot-stick or scepter).

HoT : Introducing the Paladin

Is it just me or does the rev look like a carbon copy of a paladin? The one i’m thinking about is the WoW paladin, that has a dps, a tank and a healing skill tree.

Several classes have dps, tank and healing trees… well less pronounced than the revenant for sure, but it’s not a new thing in GW2.

Zhaïtan and necromancy

I’ll stay clear of the part that wanders into character progression and stats, since that’s not my area of expertise, but on Zhaitan’s death- we don’t know that there was any cataclysmic surge of power afterwards. With Glint, who was set up to be a kind of proto-Elder Dragon in S2, the power she had consumed seemed to have largely remained in her corpse. It could well be that the same is true of Zhaitan, and that his magic will only trickle out at the same rate it did while he was sleeping.

Well it seems more like magic leaks from them at a similar rate irrespective of how alive they are. As apposed to say Abaddon who basically turned into a magic nuke.

I agree for the most part, but the Glint appearing in Edge of Destiny is but a child compared to Kralkatorrik, who is more of a raw maelström of power. Besides, we know that when power was oozing from Zhaitan sleeping under Arah, it spawned the most advanced arcane civilization in Tyria, except perhaps for the Asura prior to Primordus’s awakening. Wether it bursts or it trickles, Zhaitan’s magic is still capable of creating a massive energy surge throughout the entire world in the months or maybe years following his demise.

I don’t think the link between Orr, Zhaitan and the Human Gods was ever clarified. Orr seems to have been built ontop of Zhaitan because of how magic the area was. Although I find it a bit odd that at least the Human Gods were unaware of a sleeping Elder Dragon beneath them. But I guess it is possible, the Human Gods aren’t native to Tyria and they only arrived after the previous Rising of the EDs had… lowered? fell? dropped? Well they appeared between the two risings in anycase so the Gods and the EDs were (as far as I know) never present in the same place at the same time.

Omadd’s machine suggested that there were not only consequences, but a chain reaction, since the departure of one orb causes all the others to go haywire. In that case, maybe part of the draconic magic flows within a cycle, making the dragons more powerful with each elder dragon dying. In that case, I wonder what will happen once the last dragon dies…

This is probably what I’m most interested in, now that the cycle has been broken anything could happen and I do hope very much that something unexpected and unlike any previous cycle occurs.

Post-Season 2 Questions Regarding Sylvari

We’ve seen twice now that the Elder Dragons seek to destroy freed champions; that suggests to me that they can’t be recorrupted or of benefit.

Well Mordy is the exception then, Scarlet, Aerin and the pack soldiers all fell under his sway again. Mind you in the case of Aerin and Scarlet they were pretty unstable, but still did as Mordy wanted, for the most part.

Megaservers and upcoming WvW changes

Yeah and WvW is as meaningful now as it was when the game launched.

But apparently some people do. Mind you I don’t really get it, but then again my ability to comprehend the actions and preferences of other people does not preclude the existence of such actions of preferences.

WAHT ABOUT NA VS EU? “global” WvW should be awesome, that gould surely bring unity to the guild sistems and alliances

Well latency would be an issue. Mind you not real latency, probably 200-300, but for first world-ers this would probably be ‘unplayable’ or something.

You have servers that fight the same servers every single week with barely any change.

But that’s because those servers have similar ranking. Unless you handicap them, or boost the other servers there won’t be a change.

They should make it based on an alliance of guilds and tier it based on population.

This would create a wider variety of match ups & it would solve allot of the numbers issues and make WvW much more about tactics since you wouldn’t just be able to rely on superior numbers.

If someone cannot bother to maintain standards for a WvW guild then there is always EOTM.

Nope. You’d still have mayor alliances fighting each other over and over. The only difference would be how they’re grouped together. Currently they’re grouped by their servers, in that system they’d be grouped by alliances which would just be a more convenient means of server swapping.

~New Races~

Currently the only race that’s truly viable and has potential to be made playable is Tengu. I say this not out of personally preference (bc honestly I couldn’t care less lol) but because they are just the only one that actually makes sense. I’m all for wishes an dreams but if we do someday see a new race it’s very likely it’ll be the Tengu.

The Tengu was even redesigned to give them a more Charr like pose, so at least you’d be able to reuse the Charr chest, shoulder and leg skins.

Although on the topic of new races… I’m still holding out for Quaggan or Centaur (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Playable-Centaurs XD), just because that would actually be something unique, as apposed to another strongly-humanoid race.

Where it say Warrior not magic user?

I find it very difficult to explain the Rampage elite, without the use of magic to be honest. Engineers use an elixir to get into this state, but warriors seem to do it by themselves.

Well we do have example of real world berserkers in Nordic history, although there is some theories that they were using mind-altering substances.

How do Professions fit in Tyria?

in Lore

CureForLiving.5360

Minor detail…

I doubt any necromancer minion can be described as “rotting”… necromancer magic and all.

And that’s part of how GW is different. in DR you can find people randomly talking about being a necromancer. I think it’s just there is a difference between casual and adventuring/combat use. A random civilian may be an elementalist, but uses his water magic to help keep the fields watered.

See, that’s the kind of thing I want to see! The professions having a role in the society, in everyday life. And right now they mostly don’t.

Pretty much this. We do have examples of magic and other profession abilities being used in dynamic events, to varying degrees, but the way it’s treated (as just another day to day part of life) isn’t reflected in the game. I guess Harry Potter would be an example of day to day magic (pretty much everyone is magic and magic is everywhere so it’s no big deal), where Dragon Age, Game of Thrones and Wheel of Time (which I’m struggling to get into XD, so I might be wrong on this one) would be an example of the opposite.
GW2 seems to demonstrates both and neither.

Living story was intended to avoid these content drought

It was actually intended to avoid the expansion model altogether, not that it particularly succeeding in that respect either (it was very difficult to keep a 2 week release schedule). Still holding out hope for a hybrid model.
